_____TEAM YANKEE: FIRST FIGHT
*
__Team Yankee 1st of 4th Armored*
________________vs.*
Elements 28th Guards Tank Division*
*
Date: Aug 2, 1987*
Location: Near East German Border*
*
Team Yankee has stood to in their positions near a small West German
river village. Units of the 1st of the 4th Armored have been attached
to a Mechanized company to make up Team Yankee. Off in the distance
elements of the Armored Cavalry are already engaged in a battle in the
Soviet invasion of West Germany. Team Yankee is waiting their turn
once the Armored Cavalry breaks off contact and withdraws through
the Team's position.*
*
In this scenario, based on the first engagement in the Harold Coyle book
"Team Yankee", there are 3 crippled Armored Cav M3A3s across the river
their mobility has been effected and they are out of ammo. Get them
safely out of harms way before the Soviet forces take them out like clay
pigeons. The Team's FIST track is in the village spotting for the artillery.
There are a few Dragon Teams near the village to to make the Soviets
miserable. The positions occupied by the Team are those illustrated in the
book.*
*
Engage the Soviet forces and stop them from passing through your positions*
*
Designer's Note: This scenario doesn't follow the battle exactly as
described in the book. I tried several combinations of mission types and
starting locations and a Soviet assault mission vs. the U.S. with a defend
mission was just plain boring for the U.S. player. It was too much of a
"turkey shoot" for the U.S. So I took some liberties with the setups and
various other items to provide the U.S. player vs. the computer Soviet
player a real challenge. The battle map is a close duplicate of the one in
the book.*
*
Also, you will note that I took the time to include all the main characters
of the book. The Team's Mech platoon was never really identified so I
gave it the designation of 2nd of the 78th since units of the 78th are
mentioned elsewhere in the book. The withdrawing Armored Cav units were
also annonymous so I gave them the designation of 2nd of the 7th.*
