*
Battle Location: Mouth of the Litani river, Lebanon.*
*
Battle Type: Israel Advance Vs. Hezballah Delay.*
*
Design by: Amit Nachman.*
*
Scenario description: Fictional Scenario.*
*
General:As the situation in Syria continues to worsen, Israeli forces are forced to invade the Syrian Golan to secure a buffer zone and prevent radical Islamists from attacking settlements in the Golan and Galilee. Responding to the Israeli incursion, Hezballah initiates massive rocket attacks into Israel, including the cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa. The Israeli government is under fierce public pressure to bring Hezballah to its knees. Unlike 2006, the IDF chooses to invade Lebanon with full force, 3 armored divisions are mobilized and tasked with clearing southern Lebanon of Hezballah forces. Regular and reserve airborne units are tasked with blocking the passages across the Litani to prevent Hezballah units from retreating to the north. The 35th Airborne Brigade, part of the GHQ Reserve is tasked with the bridges near the coast line*
*
Goal: The 35th brigade will attack and hold the passages and bridges across the Litani river, from the Mediterranean in the west to the 6th of February Bridge in the east, blocking the retreat of enemy forces from south of the river and allowing 252nd division to prepare for further advance from the Tyre area to Sidon.
*
Mission: The 101st battalion and attached forces will perform a helicopter born assault of the bridges and high grounds from the mouth of the Litani to Arzay, and prepare to hold and defend the bridges against counter attacks. The 101st Battalion will locate and destroy the Hezballah regional headquarters at Mazraat Al Quasta, as well as the Hezballah maritime assets in near Basile. This will allow 35th brigade to perform its mission.*
*
Terrain: the area near the coastline is mostly flat farmland(orchards and fields) but it is dominated by the hills to the east. The hills are mostly passable. The Litani river crosses the area from east to west making passage of vehicles and personnel impossible without bridging or fording equipment. The main routes move from south to north along the beach line, with secondary routes of various qualities leading to the villages and hills. The seven villages in the area consist mainly of stone buildings, and present an urban fighting environment due to their density.*
*
Enemy-Confirmed: Hezballah HQ in Mazraat Al Quasta(objective Vivian) the elimination of this HQ is of importance to the success of the operation. Hezballah Regulars- company sized force with ATGM, AA, and vehicles in the Area of Vivian objectives. Enemy fortifications including fortified buildings and AA positions in the Vivian objectives. Possible IEDs on all routes in the area. Hezballah irregulars- militia type units in all villages ranging in size from sections to platoons. Estimated- around company size force for the entire area. Hezballah boats in the wharf (objective Alona) near Basile- elimination of these boats is paramount as they are loaded with ammunition and must not be allowed to escape. Lebanese Army: currently around bridges (objectives Galia and Galit) in small forces. Not expected to fight.*
*
Enemy- Possible: Lebanese Army(unlikely) and Hezballah(likely) units located in nearby areas may attempt to counter attack and retake the bridges. Counter attacking forces may vary in size from company (likely) to battalion (unlikely) size. Possible directions of counter attack, north to south along coastal roads or north east to south west from the high ground.
