The invasion of South Korea by the North Korean People's Army in 1950 caught General Douglas MacArthur and the US Army by surprise. An advance group of infantrymen from the 24th Infantry Division under the command of LTC Charles 'Brad' Smith rushed to a blocking position north of Pusan to slow down or halt the advance of the North Koreans.*
*
On July 5th, a strong North Korean force of tanks and infantry attacked the position and quickly swept the defenders aside. The soldiers were minimally supplied and wholly unprepared to serve as more than a slight speedbump. The American withdrawal turned into a rout with soldiers stumbling through rice paddies and abandoning equipment.*
*
Of the 406 soldiers who started the battle, only 185 could be mustered a week later after reaching friendly lines.*
*
Soldiers of the 172nd SBCT are ordered to move to an easily defended ridgeline to conduct a hasty defense to halt the advance of the North Korean People's Army.*
*
Satellite intelligence has spotted at least two enemy tank battalions and one mechanized infantry battalion. These are front-line units and will consist of the best equipment the North Korean Army can field.*

This will not be another Task Force Smith!*
