Beachhead Taiwan*
*
Date: June 2020*
*
Battle Location: Taiwan*
*
Battle Type: USMC vs. China*
Designed to be played as the USMC.*
*
Design by: Suhiir.*
*
Scenario description: Fictional.*
*
SITUATION*
Well it's finally happened. The Peoples Republic of China (PRC - mainland China) has invaded the Republic of China (ROC - Taiwan). After a certain amount of foot dragging on the part of Congress they finally voted to uphold the Sino-American Mutual Defense Treaty. Unfortunately this delay has given the PRC the time to firmly establish itself on Taiwan. The area near the beachhead is reported to be lightly garrisoned. But intelligence indicates the PRC has a number of mobile formations located at various key points near possible landing areas. We can expect these to react to our landing. North of our beachhead is a civilian marina where the PRC Navy has stationed a patrol boat detachment.*
*
*
MISSION*
Establish a beachhead where Army forces can be landed for future operations.*
*
*
EXECUTION*
Due to the astounding number of AA units the PRC has moved to Taiwan, and pre-existing SAM sites on the mainland that cover Taiwanese airspace, the Air Force is unable to interdict PRC movements to the battle area. The Navy, however, assures us they can achieve local air superiority with shipboard systems and aircraft flying outside the SAM envelope.*
Aircraft and helos have a ceiling of 1000 feet, any higher and they're vulnerable to the SAM threat. Since the only time the Air Force flies below 1000 feet is on take-off and landing they say ground support missions are impossible. Marine Air has a betting pool for whoever comes back with the most vegetation stuck to their aircraft. I put $100 on Lt. Foss.*
Those PRC patrol boats probably can't react in time to disrupt our landing, but could seriously interfere with the follow-on Army landings.*
Get ashore, deploy for and defeat the PRC counterattack.*
*
*
ADMIN-LOGISTICS*
We have a MARSOC attachment to deal with the local civilians and any PRC infiltrators.*
A pair of Ch-53's will establish ammo dumps ashore, beware that once established these will be immobile.*
*
*
COMMAND-CONTROL*
Navy Patrol Boats and LCM-ATCs will remain attached to the MEU Commander to deal with PRC surface craft.*
While Naval gunfire is available, but should be primarily tasked with counter-battery missions (i.e. don't plot fire missions unless you want PRC counter-battery to blow it to hell, leave it under AI control).*
*
*
Notes*
Determine where you want to defend against the counterattack and get your troops there.*
Rest assured the counterattack is coming!*

*
Scenario Hints*

*
LCMs can sail up the river into the lake, this could improve your air defenses.*
Helos can redeploy units where needed, but beware of MANPADs.*
Hovercraft can use the lake and beach to redeploy units quickly, and can't be shot down.*
You have LOTS of air support, use it wisely. What you start with is all you get, there are no aircraft reinforcements.*
