Gameplay notes:*
*
Move the LVT's and landing crafts with full speed until they reach the beach (shallow water hex) and unload only there. Stay in the marked landing sectors, but you can choose any beach hexes inside the sectors to land your units. If landed, move the main amount of the LVT's back to the left map edge (they will be needed to transport reinforcements and ammo). Clear the beach for the following landing waves. The LVT(A) 4 and LVT(A) 2 Flame can stay and fight with your ground troops.*
*
Assemble your Marines (to minimum whole companies) before you move inland. This will need time, but thats real.*
*
Move your troops only to the victory hexes and the approx. connecting lines between them and do not move further, because the next scenario will start at these points. The regiment frontiers are marked on the map.*
*
Pound the island hard with all you have in the D-Day bombardment phase. Concentrate your fire on the landing beaches and spotted targets (don't spray the whole island) and silence/suppress the defence at Mt. Suribachi!!!. Use the LC(FF) as FO. The DD and the LC(FF) are not moveable! The main japanese costal gun positions are marked with a "#" sign on the map; destroy them! If you see nothing, area fire can be done (hotkey Z).*
*
Don't change the preplaned bombardment phase (ships are at your disposal in turn 1, airplanes in turn 2).*
*
Use your Close Air Support wisely! You have a lot of targets. Beware of your flight path.*
*
Hunt down the AAA in the area first, then use your spotter planes. The spotter planes are sitting ducks! The AAA is very grievous over the island!*
*
The LC(FF) will appear in turn 1*
The LCI's will appear in turn 8*
The landing force will appear in turn 12*
*
Design Notes:*
*
The original troops strength (Marines and Japanese) is reduced to 25-30%.*
The Japanese side have reinforcements to simulate sheltered troops and the relocation of troops in the battle; this means you are not able to destroy all the enemy with your bombardment or locate them with your spotter planes.*
Some weapons of the airplanes and LCI's are disabled to save ammo. Activate them in the unit information screen (mark the unit and press "space bar"), if you need them.*
Pray after turn 30! :O)*
