During allied summit at Casablanca in Jaunary 1943, Allies decided that landings in Europe will occur in Sicily, in order to known Italy out of the war.
*
Plan was prepared and on 10th of July, 1943, Allied troops landed on Sicilian coast. Landings were divided between British and American sectors. British troops landed to the east, near Syracuse area, while American 7th Army under command of general Patton landed in central Sicily.
*
*
The seaborne landings of the British Eighth Army were uniformly successful. Everywhere the first assault waves achieved tactical surprise and Italian coastal defense units offered only feeble resistance. Some fire from coastal batteries and field artillery positions inland did strike the beaches but it was quickly silenced by supporting naval gunfire and the rapid movement of assault troops inland.

To capture Gela, General Allen, the 1st Division commander, created what he called Force X, a special grouping of Rangers and combat engineers (The 1st and 4th Ranger Bns; the 1st Bn, 39th Engr Combat Regt; three companies of the 83d Chem Bn (4.2-inch mortars); and the 1st Bn, 531st Engr Shore Regt). Under Colonel Darby (commander of the 1st Ranger Battalion), the force was to land directly on the beach fronting Gela, one portion on each side of the pier. While the special force worked on the city, the division would make its main effort east of the Gela River, where the division's two remaining combat teams were to land over four sections of the three-mile-long beach extending southeast from the river. For want of natural boundaries, the four sections were given color designations arbitrarily marking off one section from the other.

While the two Ranger battalions on the left were sailing toward shore, a great flash and loud explosion signaled the destruction of the Gela pier in accordance with Guzzoni's instructions. An enemy searchlight fixed its beam on the boats, but the destroyer Shubrick, designated to render gunfire support if the enemy detected the invasion, immediately opened fire and knocked the light out after five quick salvos. Three salvos destroyed a second light. By this time, Italian coastal units were at their guns, and mortar and coastal artillery fire began to fall around the landing craft. The Shubrick and soon afterwards the cruiser Savannah returned a steady stream of naval gunfire.

You are commander of Force X, tasked with capturing Gela. We know that local defences are manned by Italian 18th Coastal Brigade. Deploy your 1st Battalion at the RED Beach, while 4th Battalion at the GREEN Beach. Each battalion has 2 platoos of combat engineers attached for help in clearing any obstacles or fortifications.
*
Landings take place at nighttime, however fires from destroyed pier and naval gunfire lit the sky. You must land and proceed quick, before Italians will be able to call any reinforcements.

*
This scenario is historical with little augmentations for gameplay reasons. Some elements of Force X are cut out as they landed in the second wave. Landings of 26th Regimental Combat Team are ommited (they should take place to the very right part of map). Wherever it was possible, historical names and units were implemented.
*
*
Historically, Rangers secured the town by 0800hrs, while mound and pier were safe at 0400hrs, what allowed additional units to disembark. Italian defenders were fighting with unexpected courage and bravery, causing severe casualties to the Rangers and surrendering only after suffering about 45 percent casualties.
