37mm wz.36 Bofors was the only Polish dedicated*
anti tank gun, bought from Sweden and also produced*
in Poland. It was adopted since 1937, and remained*
a modern gun in 1939, capable of destroying all*
contemporary tanks.*
*
The only problem was an inadequate number of guns in*
units. A regular infantry regiment had 9 guns in*
three batteries (one per a battalion), reserve *
reigiments had 4-6. A cavalry regiment had 4 guns.*
There were no guns on divisional or brigade level.*
Only two motorized cavalry brigades had 28 guns.*
They were also used in other units, like independent*
rifle battalions, two naval rifle regiments, KOP *
border battalions and three motorized AT companies*
of Warsaw defence. There were around 1250 available.*
*
Most of guns were horse-drawn (three horses in*
cavalry, two in the others), only motorized brigades*
and few other units had the guns drawn by cars.*
Polish-made guns were also exported to Great Britain*
before the war.*
