Based upon the book "The Battle of Pusan by Addison Terry" who was a FOO for the 8th artillery at the battle.*
*
Historical Background: On the 22nd and 23rd of July, 1950, four fresh PRNK divisions by passed the battle raging at Taejon in an effort to cut off and surround the 24th regiment. The two battalions of the 27th regiment were rushed forward to block the NK advance; taking up positions along the Poun road. The next day the Americans were surprised to see T34 tanks traveling down the road with NK soldiers marching behind the tanks 6 abreast, completely ignorant of the enemy in their mist. The scream of US 105mm artillery opened the battle and scattered the NK troops, seperating them from the tanks. The NK tanks moved down the road, firing into the US positions on the hills as they travelled south. US anti-tank teams lept out of their fox holes and began to chase the tanks down the road in an effort to stop them. While two of the tanks were knocked out by the anti-tank teams, it was the arrival of Australian P51 Mustangs that swung the battle into the US favour.*
*
Aftermath: It took almost a week for the NK to pressure the US forces off the hills, but by that time the perimeter around Pusan had been formed and any chance of flanking the UN forces was gone.*
*
Game note: the NK forces will not be set up "marching down the road" as this would make the game very one sided; they will come deploy in tactical positions.*
