"Operation Supercharge II"*
26th March, 1943*
6th Battailon, 2nd NZ Division*
Tebaga Gap, Tunisia*
*
*
The operation to break through the Tebaga Gap was called "Operation Supercharge II". It was divided into two Phases:*
Phase 1: The New Zealand division will capture enemy positions between Djebel Tebaga and Djebel Melab by advancing about 4km beyond the Roman wall.*
Phase 2: The 1st Armoured Division will pass through the New Zealanders and move north east of their position by last light. It will then move out towards El Hamma during the night, starting the encircling movement against the axis.*
Due to the long way to the gap, our heavy artillery has not been moved up yet. Instead, we will be supported by the Desert Airforce. Air Vice Marshall Broadhurst
promised a "blitz" against the enemy, complete with bombs and cannon fire. Air Controllers are embedded in our units in order to control the planes. We have access to both Kittyhawk fighter bombers and
specially outfitted Hurricanes for tank busting.*
The 8th Armoured Brigade is also in support.
*
*
Intelligence: The Germans and Italians are dug in behind the Roman wall. They are protected by minefields and supported by tanks and artillery.
*
*
Objectives: Advance past the Roman wall and seize the three objectives. Defeat any German tank counter attack, using airpower if necessary. *
