Scenario 3
"Night Attack on Koivunokka"*
10th October, 1944*
114th Rifle Division*
Near the Lanhoehe*
*
*
After breaking through the German line, our next task is to take the German road network, so our engineer are able to link our roads with theirs and we can bring up tanks and other heavy weapons. The main road in this area is called the "Lanweg" by the Germans. Having retreated from their positions on the Titovka in some haste, the Germans are disorganized and the situation is somewhat in flux. While our main effort is an advance along the Lanweg in order to take the important Lanhoehe, your unit has been again tasked with attacking on the left flank.
*
*
With the situation unclear and the road unfinished, you don't enjoy the same heavy artillery support as on the 7th. However, you have been provided with some additional heavy mortars. You are to launch a night attack in the direction of the Lanweg. We believe that the ridge in front of us is held by a relatively week German delaying force.
*
*
Intelligence: The hill called "Koivunokka" is held by two depleted companies of Gebirgsjaeger, supported by artillery crewmen who have lost their guns in the retreat. They don't appear to have artillery support, but the darkness will allow them to ambush your forces.
*
*
Objectives: Take the Koivunokka hill in a night assault. Keep your casualties low.*
