Bloody Omaha*
*
Ok boys, this is it. The big show is underway.
Our 2nd Bataillon, 116th Infantry, will land in German occupied France.
Our part of the beach is code-named "Omaha".*
*
Objectives: Land your forces on Omaha Beach.
Destroy and occupy German strong points on the bluffs overlooking the landing area.
Secure the two draws leading off the beach in your area.*
*
Enemy: Your enemy will consist of the 352nd Infanterie-Division.
This is a veteran outfit that partly already fought on the eastern front, so expect competent and determined resistance.
The front is held thinly. Enemy units in your sector are concentrated in 6 strongpoints or "Widerstandsneste".
Each strongpoint is defended by an ample supply of automatic weapons in fortified positions.
Some are also equipped with tank turrets and other artillery pieces. Expect the beach to be heavily mined and full of obstacles.
In order to help you clear these, gap teams are supposed to land with the first wave, supported by Sherman tanks outfitted with bulldozers. Let's hope they arrive on time!*
*
The German plan will be to pin your troops down on the beach, then destroy them with artillery. Therefor it is imperative to move to the seawall as quickly as possible, even if it means taking casualties.
*
*
Some of your units, like transport vehicles, are better left out in the provided staging area, since they are useless in a direct assault like this.
The enemy strongpoints are designed to mutually support each other with flanking fire. Try to isolate them using any means necessary.*
*
God speed, Commander.
*
Note: historically, E Company landed on Easy Red, G Company on Easy Green and F Company on Dog Red. You may land your forces in whichever way you see fit.
You will probably suffer heavy casualties on this beach, but keep your spirits up! You will still be able to score a decisive victory in the campaign. There are some more LCVPs than you need, in case you want to split your forces in more boats. Generally, you can transport each Rifle platoon in 4 LCVPs.*
*
Your mortars can direct fire smoke. This can be very useful for blinding enemy positions or isolating strongpoints. Just mind your ammunition! You will only be able to receive replacements once the beach is COMPLETELY secured (Marginal Victory or better), so keep that in mind.
