Gefosse-Fontenay*
*
While the rest of the division is moving into the Aure valley, the 116th is still in need of reinforcement and reorganisation.
To this end, you will be placed in division-reserve soon, but not before doing some more dirty work.
You are to mop up the area between Grandcamp and Isigny. French civilians have informed us about possible German positions. These were marked on your map.
A platoon of Rangers and three Sherman tanks are attached to your force for this mission.
*
The Germans had flooded the area in anticipation of our airborne landings. The water has largely receded, but low lying areas are still swampy and hard to traverse.
*
*
Objectives: Deploy your units. *
Search the marked locations for German holdouts.*
Capture the hamlet of Gefosse Fontenay.*
*
Enemy: According to civilians, the Germans are hastily retreating from their beach positions. Most of them are members of the 716th Infanterie-Division, a fortress division of doubtful efficacy.
However, troops of the 352nd Infanterie-Division may have fallen back from Omaha Beach and might put up a stiffer fight. The French also claim that there is at least one tank in the area.
Be mindful of booby traps, uncleared minefield and snipers.*
*
Notes: With the exception of the village, the terrain objectives do not give you a lot of points. They are mostly there to mark possible German positions. However, heavy German weapons give extra points when taken out.
Your battalion is still in bad shape. Try to minimize casualties. After this battle you will receive some reinforcements from the beaches again.*
