Into the Bocage
*
*
I hope you enjoyed your short stay in divisional reserve. I am afraid, it is at an end. This morning the 115th Regiment attempted to cross the Elle river, a minor stream, under heavy artillery cover.
They ran into a well-prepared German defense anchored on the bocage, the characteristic hedgerows of this area. After heavy fighting, a counter attack threw them back across the river. Now division
has decided that we have to get the coals out of the fire. To help you deal with the hedges and German obstacles, you have been provided with two platoons of engineers. 3 Sherman tanks from the 747th Tank Battalion are also attached.
*
*
Objectives: Deploy your units. *
Cross the Elle river and secure the bridge.*
Secure the high ground overlooking the river.*
Capture the village of St. Claire-sur-l'Elle.*
*
Enemy: The line is held by forces of the 352nd Infanterie-Division. They have had some time to dig in and constructed well covered and camoflaged fighting positions in the hedgerows.
They have mortars, artillery and antitank guns in support.*
*
Notes: It is not possible to blow up hedges in SPWW2. Instead, possible crossing points are marked by AT barriers. Best get used to the bocage: You will be seeing a lot of it in the fight towards Saint Lo! If you manage to completely clear the village, you will be able to rest and refit.*
