Martinville ridge*
*
After a forced pause, our next attempt at seizing Saint-Lo is about to begin. This morning the 3rd battalion opened the offensive, but met with disaster.
They got hit hard by artillery and machine guns. Worse, 7 of the attached tanks from 747th tank battalion were knocked out on the ridge by enemy AT guns that
we have yet to locate. *
It is now evening and darkness will soon fall. Now our 2nd battalion is being send into the fray.
The Martinville ridge as well as the highway leading into the city are our objective for this next offensive.

*
*
Objectives: *
Deploy your forces in the indicated area. *
Advance westwards along the Martinville ridge and secure the approach to Saint-Lo, before it gets too dark to continue.*
*
Enemy: The 3rd Fallschirmjaeger Division is holding this part of the line.
These paratroopers are elite troops and will put up one hell of a fight. The previous fighting indicates that they keep a reserve of
assault forces with automatic weapons and flamethrowers, so beware of infiltration or counter attacks.
Again you will have to navigate the labyrinthic bocage, however, by now you should have quite a lot of experience in hedgerow fighting.
*
*
What is left of our tanks and engineers has been attached to your battalion. Divisional artillery and 4.2inch mortars are on call. The airforce is looking for targets with P47 fighter bombers.
To clear out the Germans, close cooperation with these units is necessary.
Be methodical: Pin down German defenders with MG and mortar fire, then use the engineers to blow holes into the hedges.
Then assault the enemy forces with your tanks and infantry.
Advance to the next field and repeat.*
*
Note: Since hedges can't be blown up in WinSPWW2, the best breach points are marked by at-barriers.
**
Note 2: If we fail to break through here, command will probably come to the conclusion that it is impossible to seize Saint Lo from this position. In that case, you will move into reserve and can refit your forces.
