In the wake of the Cobra*
*
While we were refitting and training replacements, 1st Army launched Operation Cobra, an offensive to finally break out from the Normandy bridgehead. Now Sherman tanks are streaming through the countryside, driving the enemy before them. We are following behind CCA, 2nd Armored Division in the direction of Tessy-Sur-Vire. Here our task will be flank protection for the breakthrough.*
We spent the day on trucks and have now dismounted near the crossroad at Le Mesnil-Herman. The tanks have brushed away enemy forces in this area, but have met heavy resistance by fresh units of 2. Panzer Division near the village of Moyon. At the same time, our 115th regiment advanced south along the highway to Percy, but it appears enemy forces have infiltrated through the hedgerows behind them and set up roadblocks again.*
We are to clear the road south and take over the CCA positions before nightfall, so that the tanks can be refuelled and resupplied over night.
*
*
Objectives: *
Deploy your forces above the indicated line.*
Move up to the positions reached by the 2nd Armored Divisions and take them over.*
Clear the enemy infiltrators from the southern road.
*
*
Enemy: Enemy forces in this sector consist of remnants of the 352. Infanterie Division. Just like us, they have been in combat since Omaha Beach, however, they have not received any significant reinforcements. According to 2nd Armored, fresh and well equipped troops of the 2. Panzer Division have started to reach this area, creating a defensive position south of Moyon. German remnants might have been bypassed by our onrushing tanks, so advance through the hedges carefully!*
*
*
CCA has been in combat throughout the day and is holding their present positions in the face of mounting German resistance. Their forces are set to 0 speed, so you will not be able to move them in support of your units. Just reach them and prepare the handover of positions for the night.*
