November 18th, 1944*
Setterich, West of Juelich*
*
After our excursion to Wuerselen with 30th Division, we are back at our parent unit.
While we were recuperating in reserve, the 29th has tried and failed to advance towards the town of Juelich and the Roer river.
The 2nd Armored Division broke through to our north, but are now locked in combat with tanks of the 9th Panzer Division, including some of the heaviest models. They are also held up at an antitank ditch near Puffendorf.*
Repeating our successful tactics from Normandy, the 115th and 175th opened the offensive by trying to infiltrate between the German village strongpoints.
However, they were immediately pinned down in the open terrain between the built up areas. Division command refused to use tanks, citing the "sea of mud".
The village of Setterich with its crossroads has been identified as the most important German strongpoint in the area.*
The hgher ups and 2nd Armored are getting impatient, so we will try a new approach: 1st battalion will renew the attack from the southern direction, with a reserve company attacking from the west.
Our battalion will pass into the 2nd Armored sector and attack the village from a north-western direction. This three-pronged assault will hopefully overwhelm the Germans.

*
Objectives: *
Take Setterich and the road towards Puffendorf.*
*
*
Enemy: This sector is held by the 246th Volksgrenadier Division, a new type of German infantry division.
They lack artillery and manpower, but are equipped with large amounts of rockets and machine pistols. They have prepared trenches and minefields.*

*
You will be reinforced with tanks from 2nd Armored Division. 1st Battalion is supported by Armor from the 747th Tank Battalion.
Artillery and engineers are also attached, but we won't have air support beyond our divisional spotters.
The slagpile of the local mine is under our control. We could use it for our artillery spotter.
