October 12th, 1944*
North of Aachen, Germany*
*
This month we finally entered the lion's den: Germany. However, our 116th Regiment is actually not fighting with the 29th Division for the first time.
Instead, we have been split off and assigned to other units: 3rd Battalion is supporting the 2d Armored Division, while 1st Battalion and us were tasked with keeping an eye on German bunkers on the flank of 30th Division.
Sadly, it appears these quiet days are now over.*
We are in a month-long struggle for Aachen, the first major German city within our grasp.
The town and its defenders are all but encircled, but they have so far managed to keep open a single lifeline: A road through the minor town of Wuerselen, to the north of Aachen.*
In the last few days 30th Division has tried in vain to eject the Germans from the "Wuerselen hose".
A see-saw battle saw positions change hands repeatedly, but in the end they only managed to hold onto the Birk crossroads, the little village of Bardenberg, a mine at the edge of Wuerselen and a foothold in the north of the town before burning out.
Our positions at the Siegfried Line were just taken over by some engineers and despite the darkness we are to immediately move out to Würselen in time to continue the offensive at dawn tomorrow.

Objectives: *
Deploy your core force in Birk and Hardenberg.*
Take over the positions of the 30th Infantry Division at the town of Wuerselen.*
In the recent fighting a Panzer of 108th Brigade has hit a mine while retreating. The crew is apparently full of nationalist zeal and refuses to surrender. Destroy the tank.*
30th reports receiving unusually accurate artillery fire. They have marked three locations (?) on your map. Check them for artillery observers.*
*
*
Enemy: Earlier today the 30th lost most of their positions in Wuerselen to a counter attack by the 60th Panzergrenadier Regiment, part of, ironically, the 116th Panzer Division, as well as, more worryingly, elements of 1st SS Panzer Division.
They hold the main part of Wuerselen to our south (east ingame). Panzers were also reported. Parts of the northern suburbs are in American hands, but the positions are tenuous.*
*
*
The 30th Division left behind listening posts to cover the handover. Their speed is set to 0, so you can't use them except for minor defensive tasks.
Note that the Germans are known for "greeting" new units with small counter attacks, so be mindful not to lose previously won ground!

You will only receive reinforcements after Aachen is encircled.
