April 5th, 1945*
At the Autobahn 2 near Dortmund*
*
3rd Battalion has crossed the Lippe Canal to our south-west using a hastily built footbridge. They have already advanced more than 4 miles against spotty German resistance. Our task is holding the line right in front of Autobahn 2, part of Germany's superhighway system.
*
*
A few minutes ago, some mortar and artillery fire has started landing among our positions. We have had no time to dig in yet and the divisional artillery is still supporting 3rd Battalion. It will become available momentarily.
*
*
Objectives: *
Hold the Autobahn and destroy any attacking German forces.*
*
*
Enemy: The counter-attacking force will probably be from 190th Infantry, with homeguard and rear area elements in support. Armored vehicles are also still in the area.*
*
*
You just have your core force under command. Divisional artillery of the 75th will become available soon.
*
*
The war is almost over and none of your men are keen on dying this close to the end. Wait for the German forces to reveal themselves, then smash them with artillery. Although the men of 2nd Battalion did not know this in reality, this proved to be their last major engagement of the war.
