Welcome to Jack Simth's temporary server!

(1) Jack Simth: Test
(2) Elorin (enter): 10:00
(3) Kaylin (enter): 10:03
(1) Jack Simth: Greetings
(3) Kaylin: Hello
(1) Jack Simth: Wait... Did I get the day wrong on when you wouldn't be able to show until 11 or so? Or timezone/Daylight savings diffrences?
(1) Jack Simth: Or did practice just go short?
(3) Kaylin: It's been raiing really heavily, so the fields we were going to use are a semi-solid mass of mud
(1) Jack Simth: Ah. Well, that works... I guess....
(1) Jack Simth: Still missing Kibin and Derrel.
(2) Elorin: Hmm, I've been thinking about Jason and touch range spells
(2) Elorin: would Wind Walk work on him if I could touch him?
(1) Jack Simth: Narf mentioned he had a meeting at 2:00....
(1) Jack Simth: If you could actually touch him (e.g., from the Etherial Plane), yes.
(2) Elorin: Well, there's this Ring of Blinking in the party...
(1) Jack Simth: There's also a Ring of Spell Storing. While Manifested, Jason is Incorporeal, and Jason has a Spectral Hand spell.... which is defined as Incorporeal, and thus could touch Jason, so long as the spell delivered is 4th or lower.
(1) Jack Simth: Pity Wind Walk is 6th.
(1) Jack Simth: Could be useful for getting him healed, though - so far, his only healing is from rest.....
(1) Jack Simth: ... but his defenses are such that it's not often needed.
(2) Elorin: If I'm reading Blink right, though, using that ring would let me touch Jason to deliver the spell directly, with only a 20% change of shifting back to the material plane at exactly the wrong time
(1) Jack Simth: Yep, and with most touch spells, you can just try again, although Wind Walk is a little bit of an exception, as it's mulitple touches.
(2) Elorin: which would get rid of that annoying question of "who's going to give Jason a ride?"
(1) Jack Simth: From Magic Overview: "Touch: You must touch a creature or object to affect it. A touch spell that deals damage can score a critical hit just as a weapon can. A touch spell threatens a critical hit on a natural roll of 20 and deals double damage on a successful critical hit. Some touch spells allow you to touch multiple targets. You can touch as many willing targets as you can reach as part of the casting, but all targets of the spell must be touched in the same round that you finish casting the spell."
(1) Jack Simth: From Wind Walk: Targets: You and one touched creature per three levels
(2) Elorin: With most touch spells I can keep trying again until it discharges successfully, but what happens with Wind Walk? Do I have to cast it all over again if I miss?
(2) Elorin: ah
(1) Jack Simth: If you hit at least one target, the spell discharges that round - and as you are one of the targets, you always hit yourself in that manner. Yes, cast again, for those who missed out on the first round.
(2) Elorin: let's see, Jason, Kibin, Derrel, Kaylin, Wagon, and Carriage makes for 6 targets
(2) Elorin: I can get 5 per casting
(2) Elorin: Can I attempt touching the same target multiple times in the same round?
(1) Jack Simth: Not when the miss is of that nature - you are in quite the hurry to touch five or six critters in one round; have you ever tapped your hand at something, and missed when you expected to hit? Slows you down, as you don't encounter resistence where expected and keep going.
(2) Elorin: I'd have to cast it twice to get everyone anyway. Can I just concentrate on Jason for that one round?
(1) Jack Simth: That... would work, yes.
(1) Jack Simth: And you can get up to full bab of attempts against him.
(2) Elorin: heh, casting Divine Power to get more touch attempts :P
(1) Jack Simth: So, at 15th and 3/4ths BAB, that's three attempts, more with spells.
(1) Jack Simth: Well, 15 after. Might just run the duel now rather than later.....
(1) Jack Simth: Ready?
(3) Kaylin: Sure, but I need to do a bit more shopping.
(1) Jack Simth: Well, let's be off, then.
Moving to room 'D and D'..

(2) Elorin (enter): 10:22
(3) Kaylin (enter): 10:22
(1) GM: Let's see... still in Smithton, Jason sold off a bunch of adamantium for a nice price.
(1) GM: Jason: Anything else you were wanting to pick up before we leave?
(3) Kaylin: Well, I was thinking, there's a few spells which would be useful should we encounter a hostile spellcaster.
(1) GM: Jason: More spells are always nice.
(3) Kaylin: Absolutely.
(1) GM: Jason: And I was thinking of picking up a shield anyway....
(1) GM: Jason fetches a bunch of his money from the wagon, and goes off and makes a purchase... then walks back with it, in hand.
(1) GM: A mithral shield....
** (3) Kaylin buys a Scroll of Darkvision and a Scroll of Feeblemind for a total cost of 1275 GP **
(1) GM: Which he dons.
(1) GM: Jason: You might consider picking one of these up at some point for yourself.
(3) Kaylin: A shield? Seems... distasteful, somehow.
(1) GM: Jason: Yeah, but can save on casting the spell, and be a little more effective at times, too.
(1) GM: Jason: Besides - mithral is quite the valuable material. A little one like this doesn't get in the way of spellcasting.
(1) GM: Well, raeady to go?
(1) GM: Jason: So shall we continue towards the tower you wanted to visit?
(3) Kaylin: Oh! I nearly forgot.
** (3) Kaylin buys a scroll of Tongues **
(2) Elorin: I can't think of anything else I want to buy at the moment
** (2) Elorin can cast Tongues already **
(1) GM: (Should have collaberated on a scroll - oh well)
(3) Kaylin: At some point I'd like to make Tongues permanent on me
(2) Elorin: (btw, I switched out Bless for Comprehend Languages at the same time as I picked up Heroes' Feast)
(1) GM: (Okay)
(1) GM: Jason: Anything else to take care of before we head out again?
(3) Kaylin: I'm ready to go.
(2) Elorin: Now that we don't have the horses to worry about, shall we speed this up a bit with Wind Walk?
(1) GM: Jason: Might be a little tricky getting to me... which reminds me.... I went out and picked up a Familiar earlier....
(1) GM: Jason: Winddancer!
(3) Kaylin: An excellent suggestion.
(1) GM: A falcon flys out of the sky, and lands on the wagon.
(1) GM: Jason: Good to see you. You mind if I hitch a ride?
(1) GM: The falcom makes a few noises, then jason walks up and possesses his familiar.
(3) Kaylin: Ooh, pretty. I love watching them fly, so elegant...
(1) GM: (Hawk, rather, sorry....)
(2) Elorin: Quite a grand-looking bird you've got there, Jason
(1) GM: WindDancer: Squak!
(2) Elorin: Too bad it can't speak. Hmm, I can fix that, temporarily at least...
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Tongues ( level 4, "Speak any language" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(1) GM: Jason/WindDancer: Well, that seems to have done the trick.
(3) Kaylin: (WindDancer?)
(1) GM: (For a bird....)
(3) Kaylin: (not a bad name, come to think of it...)
(2) Elorin: Too bad that spell only lasts a bit over two and a half hours
(3) Kaylin: Well, our journey shouldn't take too long with Wind Walk's aid.
(2) Elorin: Anyway, let's get going
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 7 Spell ( level 7, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) Elorin: (oops)
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Wind Walk ( level 6, "You and your allies turn vaporous and travel fast" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Wind Walk ( level 6, "You and your allies turn vaporous and travel fast" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(1) GM: Jason/WindDancer: well... faster than I could fly. Shall we be off?
(2) Elorin: yes
(1) GM: The party heads out....
** (2) Elorin turns vaporous and starts heading off **
** (3) Kaylin drifts off, her head in the clouds **
(1) GM: And let's see... we had 1000 miles to go, took care of 20 the first day.....
(1) GM: Had the detour in the desert....
(1) GM: so 980 miles at 60 MPH [980/60] -> 16
(3) Kaylin: (Hmm, I'm wearing white...)
(2) Elorin: (If I didn't know better, I'd probably (80%) think you were a cloud, then)
(1) GM: Shortly before the tounges spell wears off, Jason asks a question: So, are we trying for a forced march, or planning on landing in the water?
(1) GM: Jason/WindDancer: And how long does this last, anyway?
(2) Elorin: It should last 16 hours
(3) Kaylin: (you're level 16?)
(2) Elorin: (15 + Ioun Stone)
(3) Kaylin: (ah, good call)
(3) Kaylin: I wonder if anyone has seen us.... the wagon and carriage must look a little unusual.
(2) Elorin: As far as I know, we don't have any means except staying vaporous of not sinking into the ocean
(2) Elorin: Well, except for Kibin
(2) Elorin: He can find a cloud to sleep on
(1) GM: Jason: Well, if Kaylin has another one of those nifty high-level Polymorphs prepared, she could turn the wagon into a boat.
(3) Kaylin: That would work, and I do have one prepared.
(1) GM: Jason: So, press on, or cast when the time comes?
(3) Kaylin: If we press on we should be able to make it by the time the spell wears out.
(3) Kaylin: Certainly cross the water, if we move quickly.
(1) GM: Forced March, then?
(2) Elorin: looks like it
(1) GM: Hour 9, over the water: DC 10 Con checks, everyone.
(5) Kibin (enter): 10:51
(3) Kaylin: Con check: [1d20+1] -> [20,1] = (21)
(5) Kibin: (sorry i'm late. what did i miss?)
(3) Kaylin: (mwahahaha)
(2) Elorin: Con check: [1d20+2] -> [12,2] = (14)
(3) Kaylin: (We're using Wind Walk to get to the Archmages, in the middle of a forced march)
(2) Elorin: (Jason has a familiar, and we're Wind Walking over the ocean)
(1) GM: (Not too much - currently, we are Wind Walking across the ocean, at a forced march, in the 9th hour - as you get double duration, no need of a con check from you....)
(5) Kibin: (we all need to make a con check? or just you people that aren't dragons.)
(3) Kaylin: (so why is it I roll high on low-bonus stuff, and low on high-bonus stuff?)
(1) GM: [1d20+10] -> [16,10] = (26)
(5) Kibin: (ah. hehe.)
(1) GM: [1d20+0] -> [12,0] = (12)
(2) Elorin: (the dice have a wicked sense of irony? :P)
(1) GM: ("Balance")
(3) Kaylin: (probably)
(1) GM: So, nobody took nonleathal that hour.
(1) GM: Hour 10 checks, DC 12.
(1) GM: [1d20+0] -> [15,0] = (15)
(2) Elorin: Con check: [1d20+2] -> [19,2] = (21)
(3) Kaylin: Con check: [1d20+1] -> [1,1] = (2)
(3) Kaylin: (ouch.)
(5) Kibin: (DC 10 for me?)
(3) Kaylin: (that's irony right bloody there.)
(1) GM: [1d6] -> [3] = (3)
(1) GM: Take 3 nonleathal, Kaylin.
(5) Kibin: [1d20+1] -> [2,1] = (3)
(5) Kibin: (heh. i get damage too.)
(1) GM: [1d6] -> [3] = (3)
(1) GM: Take 3 nonleathal, Kibin.
(1) GM: Hour 11....
(1) GM: [1d20+0] -> [17,0] = (17)
(1) GM: DC 14
(3) Kaylin: Con check: [1d20+1] -> [11,1] = (12)
(2) Elorin: Con check: [1d20+2] -> [14,2] = (16)
(3) Kaylin: (pah.)
(1) GM: [1d6] -> [6] = (6)
(1) GM: Hour 12....
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Light Wounds ( level 1, "Cures 1d8 damage +1/level (max +5)" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 1 Spell ( level 1, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) Elorin: [1d8+5] -> [7,5] = (12)
(1) GM: DC 16, 12 for Kibin
(1) GM: [1d20] -> [10] = (10)
(2) Elorin: (there goes that nonlethal damage)
(3) Kaylin: Con check: [1d20+1] -> [3,1] = (4)
(2) Elorin: Con check: [1d20+2] -> [18,2] = (20)
(5) Kibin: [1d20+1] -> [20,1] = (21)
(1) GM: [1d6] -> [3] = (3)
(1) GM: Kaylin - [1d6] -> [6] = (6)
(1) GM: Hour 13, DC 18....
(2) Elorin: Con check: [1d20+2] -> [13,2] = (15)
(1) GM: [1d20] -> [4] = (4)
(3) Kaylin: Con check: [1d20+1] -> [1,1] = (2)
(3) Kaylin: (another natural 1?!)
(5) Kibin: [1d20+1] -> [19,1] = (20)
** (2) Elorin is finally starting to get tired **
(3) Kaylin: (what the orc)
(5) Kibin: (DC 14 for me, i guess.)
(3) Kaylin: A bit tough, aren't we?
(3) Kaylin: I've been a bit tired for quite some time.
(1) GM: Winddancer: [1d6] -> [5] = (5) Kaylin: [1d6] -> [1] = (1), Elorin: [1d6] -> [6] = (6)
(5) Kibin: (wait. i wasn't supposed to make a check this time. oops.)
(1) GM: Hour 14, DC 20, DC 16 for Kibin
(2) Elorin: Con check: [1d20+2] -> [11,2] = (13)
(1) GM: Jason/WindDancer: [1d20] -> [2] = (2)
(5) Kibin: (i did my check early. :P)
(3) Kaylin: Con check: [1d20+1] -> [2,1] = (3)
(1) GM: Elorin: [1d6] -> [2] = (2) Winddancer[1d6] -> [4] = (4) Kaylin [1d6] -> [6] = (6)
(3) Kaylin: (argh, well, from now on, there's no chance I can make it)
(5) Kibin: (actually, with elorin, we can go on for days.)
(1) GM: Hour 15, DC 22....
(2) Elorin: Con check: [1d20+2] -> [11,2] = (13)
(1) GM: [1d20] -> [19] = (19)
(1) GM: Elorin: [1d6] -> [4] = (4) Winddancer[1d6] -> [4] = (4) Kaylin [1d6] -> [6] = (6)
(1) GM: And finally, over the mountains, hour 16....
(2) Elorin: (hmm, is it worth spending cure spells on damage that goes away at a rate of 15/hour on its own...)
(2) Elorin: Con check: [1d20+2] -> [13,2] = (15)
(1) GM: DC 24, 18 for Kibin
(5) Kibin: [1d20+1] -> [20,1] = (21)
(1) GM: As Kibin is the only one that CAN make it....
(1) GM: Elorin: [1d6] -> [4] = (4) Winddancer[1d6] -> [1] = (1) Kaylin [1d6] -> [4] = (4)
(5) Kibin: (if you heal the damage, the fatigue goes away.)
(1) GM: And the spell drifts down to a halt, at about midnight, in cold, snowy mountains....
(5) Kibin: (wait. so the nonlethal damage heals normally? so that means, i'm not tired at all.)
(1) GM: (only when resting, which constant motion of flying is not)
(5) Kibin: (oh. okay.)
(5) Kibin: (elorin, did you heal us?)
(2) Elorin: (how much, for each of you?)
(5) Kibin: (i got 3 damage.)
(5) Kibin: (i have much more endurance than you people :)
(2) Elorin: (bah, that's hardly anything)
(2) Elorin: (have some Cure Minors)
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Minoir Wounds ( level 0, "Cures 1 point of damage" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 0 Spell ( level 0, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Minoir Wounds ( level 0, "Cures 1 point of damage" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 0 Spell ( level 0, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Minoir Wounds ( level 0, "Cures 1 point of damage" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 0 Spell ( level 0, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Kibin: (lol.)
(3) Kaylin: (that's minor all right)
(3) Kaylin: (Cure Splinter!)
(2) Elorin: (hmm, that reminds me, I need to fix the spelling of that)
(1) GM: Everyone will be fine tomorrow, of course, assuming that the Large giant with an Ice-coated axe doesn't have anything to say about the matter....
(1) GM: Roll vs. Initiative....
(5) Kibin: [1d20] -> [3] = (3)
(1) GM: [1d20+5] -> [8,5] = (13)
(3) Kaylin: Initiative: [1d20 +6] -> [17,6] = (23)
(1) GM: [1d20+4] -> [4,4] = (8)
(5) Kibin: (dang. anyway, i still haven't completed my level 15 changes... i need to get on the ball. one feat i suppose, and the usual BAB changes.)
(2) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [2,6] = (8)
(1) GM: (the blue one)
(5) Kibin: (wow. i get an extra attack from BAB.)
(1) GM: Kaylin, Giant, Jason and Elorin need to re-roll, Kibin
(1) GM: [1d20+4] -> [2,4] = (6)
(2) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [19,6] = (25)
(1) GM: So Kaylin, GIant, Elorin, Jason, Kibin
(3) Kaylin: Initiative: [1d20 +6] -> [18,6] = (24)
(5) Kibin: (okay, i put my new level in.)
(2) Elorin: (can I finish healing all the nonlethal damage first? I would have done it before we set down in potentially hostile territory)
(3) Kaylin: (oh wait, that was someone else)
(5) Kibin: (hover is feat, 15 reflex saves, 11/6/1 BAB.)
(1) GM: Not while cloudy - Gaseous form doesn't permit touch spells.
(3) Kaylin: (how far away is this thing?)
(5) Kibin: (well, elorin already healed me. :P)
(5) Kibin: (did he?)
(1) GM: He sitting there, on the ground, while you drift down in cloud form.
(1) GM: You spy him about 60 feet beneath you, as he walks out of his hut.
(5) Kibin: (ah. okay.)
(3) Kaylin: (oh god, he's close..)
(1) GM: Armed, armored, and ready to face the day....
(1) GM: Kaylin?
(5) Kibin: (haha. i don't have to worry about the ice-coating :)
(1) GM: Kaylin, GIant, Elorin, Jason, Kibin
(1) GM: Kaylin? You won initiative.
(5) Kibin: (whoops. i remembered i get skills.)
(3) Kaylin: (argh, didn't update the openRPG prepared spells.)
(3) Kaylin: (/me casts disintegrate)
(2) Elorin: (If the spell is just running out now, we're still insubstantial)
(5) Kibin: (so?)
(1) GM: Touch attack?
(3) Kaylin: SR penetration: [1d20 + 21] -> [20,21] = (41)
(5) Kibin: (i can still use breath weapons, can't I?)
(3) Kaylin: Ranged Touch Attack Roll: [1d20+8] -> [9,8] = (17)===> DMG: [0+0] -> 0
(3) Kaylin: (bah.0
(1) GM: Touch AC 10, no SR; Fort save: [1d20+25] -> [6,25] = (31)
(5) Kibin: (speaking of breath weapons. my save DC for breath weapon is now 18.)
(2) Elorin: (can't cast spells in gaseous form unless they have no components)
(3) Kaylin: [5d6] -> [5,4,2,6,4] = (21)
(3) Kaylin: (oh, really?)
(3) Kaylin: (bah, then.)
(1) GM: Ah, good point. Sorry, Kaylin, no spell for you.
(5) Kibin: (elorin, you could dispel the magic, you know.)
(2) Elorin: (we can also still move at 600 ft/round, though we have to descend at least 60 ft)
(1) GM: Dismiss it, anyway....
(3) Kaylin: (in that case, I'm flying away)
(5) Kibin: (yeah. that way, we can rest on the ground, and volia! :P)
(5) Kibin: (or, we could just zoom away. hehe.)
(3) Kaylin: (/me goes to fix the spell list)
(5) Kibin: (what's the maximum skill level for level 15? 17?)
(2) Elorin: (18)
(1) GM: (18)
(2) Elorin: (level + 3)
(5) Kibin: (oh. cool.)
(1) GM: So, Kaylin retreating at 600 feet - now a long ways off
(1) GM: The giant hurls a boulder at the armored-looking cloudy thing (Elorin)
(1) GM: [1d20+18] -> [1,18] = (19) for [2d6+11] -> [3,4,11] = (18)
** (2) Elorin watches as the boulder zooms past a mile away **
(1) GM: And doesn't come anywhere close; the boulder flys up in the air, falls down, and goes through the roof of the giant's hut.
(1) GM: Elorin?
(5) Kibin: Could you dismiss the spell for me?
** (2) Elorin descends to the ground some distance away, preferably out of sight behind something, and dismisses Wind Walk for everyone who's on the ground or can fly naturally **
** (5) Kibin hovers in the air. Weeee. **
(1) GM: Let's see... that means it's dismissed for pretty much everyone... and Kaylin is 600 feet away, 1200 from Elorin.....
(2) Elorin: (If Derrel were here, I think he'd be the only one still gaseous)
(1) GM: Jason steps out of Winddancer, and casts a spell to distract the giant....
(1) GM: ... and a little earth elemental appears behind the giant
(5) Kibin: (haha. jason likes the little earth elementals, doesn't he.)
(1) GM: (Flanking for sneak attack....)
whispering to Kaylin, Shadow Conjouration again....
(1) GM: Kibin?
(5) Kibin: (hehe.)
(6) Derrel (enter): 11:18
(5) Kibin: (how far away is the giant?)
(6) Derrel: (Sorry I'm late)
(1) GM: That's okay. Roll for initiative.
(6) Derrel: Dex check: [1d20+1] -> [1,1] = (2)
(1) GM: See the image?
(6) Derrel: (Yep)
(2) Elorin: (We're in the mountains near the Archmages, and found a frost giant (I think) on arrival)
(1) GM: Blue guy - large Giant holding a ice-coated axe.
** (5) Kibin charges at the giant, landing on the ground and biting the giant in a tendon. **
(1) GM: (and you don't know that - haven't made the knoweledge roll - keep your knoweledge in character)
(5) Kibin: (keeping my AC and attack the same using combat expertise.)
(1) GM: Attack roll?
(5) Kibin: [1d20+12] -> [13,12] = (25)
(6) Derrel: (Do we know it's evil?)
(3) Kaylin: (what knowledge roll could we make? and isn't it obvious that giants are giant?:)
(5) Kibin: [1d6+1+7d6] -> [3,1,6,3,2,1,6,2,6] = (30)
(1) GM: AC 29 - your teeth scrape off it's armor, even with the +2 flanking bonus.
(5) Kibin: (huh.)
(1) GM: (Large is a technical term, as used above; there are also the occasional Huge giant and the like...)
(1) GM: Derrel - at the moment, you are a cloud 60-feet above the giant due to Elorin's spell.
(5) Kibin: (well, it threw a boulder at Elorin.)
(5) Kibin: (is there a cliff behind the giant?)
(1) GM: (As it's first action. Pitty it hit it's own hut.)
(3) Kaylin: (so sad)
(1) GM: Kaylin and Elorin have flown off, Elorin has dismissed the cloudy spell for Kibin, Jason's Familiar, Kaylin, and I think himself.
(1) GM: And you will be on the ground at the end of your round, as the spell is falling off.
(1) GM: And Derrel, it's your turn.
(5) Kibin: (but still ghostly.)
(5) Kibin: (takes 5 rounds to get on the ground.)
(5) Kibin: (i mean solid.)
(2) Elorin: (Yes. And I don't think I would have gone the full 600 ft away, just to the first convenient bit of cover I could find that wasn't too close)
(6) Derrel: (So I'm a cloud? What am I supposed to do, rain on him? :/)
(1) GM: And it would be Knoweledge(Nature) to know about it...
(3) Kaylin: Knowledge: Nature Skill Check: [1d20+13] -> [8,13] = (21)
(3) Kaylin: (bah.)
(1) GM: De-cloud, of course - takes a few rounds, though....
(2) Elorin: (Detect Evil and land somewhere?)
(6) Derrel: (Ok, so I head for the ground and de-cloud. Detect evil, too, if I can while doing those other two)
whispering to Kaylin, DC 24 for basic info; sorry, you aren't familiar with this type of giant, although you do recall an amusing story about a hill giant and a maiden...
(3) Kaylin: (aaagh, my mind.)
(1) GM: Takes 5 rounds to resume corporeal form, although Elorin might just dismiss it in a moment, and Spell-Like abilities have no components, and can be used freely.
(1) GM: So Resume 1/ Detect Evil away.
(1) GM: And how close do you want to be to the Giant?
(1) GM: With a move of 600, you get to choose where you land.
(6) Derrel: (Close enough to whach at it? Derrel is meelee)
(1) GM: Right next door. Okay.
whispering to Derrel, And yes - Evil
(1) GM: Kaylin's turn.
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Horrid Wilting ( level 8, "Deals 1d8 damage/level within 30 ft." )
(3) Kaylin: SR: [1d20 + 21] -> [11,21] = (32)
(3) Kaylin: (er, that's supposed to read 1d6.)
(5) Kibin: (that's new.
(3) Kaylin: (unless that's water-based?)
(3) Kaylin: (fort half, damange: [15d6] -> [2,3,5,3,6,4,3,2,6,5,2,4,1,5,1] = (52))
(1) GM: Fort: [1d20+25] -> [2,25] = (27)
(3) Kaylin: (and with the rest of the time this round, run towards the giant)
(5) Kibin: (wow.)
(3) Kaylin: (DC27)
(1) GM: With your move of 30, that puts you at 480 feet away.
(5) Kibin: (aw comeon. say that hit. )
(3) Kaylin: (bleh.)
(1) GM: 26 damage, then.
(3) Kaylin: (that's such a cool spell to hit a group of stuff with.)
(1) GM: The blue giant looks mildly annoyed.
(5) Kibin: (who's turn is it?)
(1) GM: The Giant's.
(5) Kibin: (oh.)
(5) Kibin: (should i be singing the ouch time song yet?)
(1) GM: The giant draws and swings it's axe.....
(1) GM: At the pesky thing that took a swing at it.
(3) Kaylin: (yes, start singing :)
(3) Kaylin: (maybe the sonic damage will hurt it)
(1) GM: [1d20+30] -> [2,30] = (32) for [3d6+18+2d6] -> [2,6,6,18,2,6] = (40)
(5) Kibin: (heh. missed.)
(5) Kibin: (wait. what's the 2d6 damage for?)
(1) GM: Sorry, 1d6 cold, not 2d6 cold.
(5) Kibin: (i don't take cold damage...)
(2) Elorin: (which Kibin is immune to anyway)
(1) GM: Now it's wielding it's greataxe, and it's Elorin's turn.
** (2) Elorin steps out to take a look, sees the rest of the party didn't decide to try avoiding the confrontation, dismisses Wind Walk for Derrel, and moves towards the fight **
(1) GM: Dissmissing is a standard action, as I recall.....
(2) Elorin: (which is why I'm not also shooting at the giant)
(1) GM: So you get a 30-foot move.
(1) GM: And the first bit of useful cover was, oh, 100 feet away, so you are now 70 feet from it.
(1) GM: Jason's turn.....
(1) GM: Evervation, Level 4: 1d4 neagative levels, close ranged touch attack, no save, SR. nagative levels: [1d4] -> [2] = (2)
(1) GM: Touch Attack, for use with spells (base): [1d20+5] -> [8,5] = (13) ===> Damage: [Bad dice format] - [0d0+0]
(1) GM: +4 dex; that's a hit, critter soaks up a black ray that suppresses it's vital energies....
(2) Elorin: (good thing that's a touch attack)
(5) Kibin: (wow. that's interesting.)
(1) GM: Kibin's turn.
(5) Kibin: (is there a cliff behind the giant?)
(5) Kibin: (eh, probally not.)
** (5) Kibin bites the giant, and swings at the giant with his claws. **
(1) GM: No, no cliff right next to it.
(5) Kibin: [1d20+13] -> [15,13] = (28)
(5) Kibin: [1d20+8] -> [9,8] = (17)
(5) Kibin: [1d20+8] -> [4,8] = (12)
(5) Kibin: (first one hit, other two didn't?)
(1) GM: With flanking, that's Hit/Miss/Miss, AC 29. Roll your damage - as you are flanking, Sneak Attack applies.
(5) Kibin: [1d6+1+7d6] -> [2,1,5,3,6,2,6,5,6] = (36)
(5) Kibin: (with... 2 strength damage.)
(1) GM: And two str damage.
(5) Kibin: (on a side note, did you know i can fly better than Jason now?)
(1) GM: (when he is possessing Winddancer, yes; otherwise, no)
(1) GM: (Speaking of whom, Winddancer has flown out of range....)
(1) GM: The giant seems a bit worried at the blood gushing out it's leg.
(1) GM: Derrel?
(1) GM: Derrel? Your turn.
(1) GM: Paging Derrel.
(1) GM: Oh well, he delays until his return.
(1) GM: Kaylin?
(5) Kibin: (hehe.)
(6) Derrel: (Just checking something)
(6) Derrel: +5 Oraneormu Smite #1 Attack Roll: [1d20+27] -> [9,27] = (36)===> DMG: [1d8+20+2d6+2] -> [2,20,1,4,2] = (29)
(6) Derrel: +5 Oraneormu #2 Attack Roll: [1d20+18] -> [9,18] = (27)===> DMG: [1d8+5+2d6+2] -> [7,5,6,1,2] = (21)
(6) Derrel: +5 Oraneormu #3 Attack Roll: [1d20+13] -> [8,13] = (21)===> DMG: [1d8+5+2d6+2] -> [8,5,4,2,2] = (21)
(1) GM: AC 29, flanking bonus applies, smite applies, Holy applies; two hits, 50 damage.
(5) Kibin: (ouch...)
(5) Kibin: (i believe the correct word is, holy crap.)
(1) GM: The thing screams as the Paladin's Blade tears maliciously into it's flesh and the divine energies assault it's very being.
(3) Kaylin: (that's two words)
(5) Kibin: (shut up before i reduce you to a quivering blob :P)
(1) GM: Kaylin?
(3) Kaylin: (/me casts FInger of Death on Kibin..)
(1) GM: (and Kaylin is much better at the "quivering blob" department, what with the spells.....)
** (3) Kaylin runs towards the giant, muttering about landing too far away **
(5) Kibin: (hehe. shoot a cone of cold at me! :)
(1) GM: That's another 120 feet, putting you at 360, I believe.
(1) GM: Giant's turn....
(1) GM: Having just been schooled by a plate-clad holy man, the giant tries to school back....
(5) Kibin: (DOH!
(5) Kibin: [1d20+13] -> [17,13] = (30)
(5) Kibin: [1d6+1+7d6] -> [1,1,6,1,3,4,2,3,6] = (27)
(5) Kibin: (forgot about AoO. :)
(1) GM: Hit, 27 damage.
(5) Kibin: (derrel schooled that giant, so i get to school him with another attack. yay for oppurtunitist.)
(2) Elorin: (and 2 more strength damage, I believe)
(5) Kibin: (yup.)
(5) Kibin: (it's down to +26 attack bonus, i believe.)
(1) GM: +2 frost greataxe [1d20+27] -> [6,27] = (33) for [3d6+18+1d6] -> [3,6,2,18,2] = (31) +2 frost greataxe [1d20+22] -> [4,22] = (26) for [3d6+18+1d6] -> [4,4,3,18,2] = (31) +2 frost greataxe [1d20+17] -> [3,17] = (20) for [3d6+18+1d6] -> [6,2,4,18,5] = (35) +2 frost greataxe [1d20+12] -> [2,12] = (14) for [3d6+18+1d6] -> [6,3,4,18,5] = (36)
(1) GM: Oh, and -3 damage to each of those; oops.
(5) Kibin: (wow. i don't think a single one hit.)
(5) Kibin: (if it was trying to school me, that is.)
(1) GM: Derrel - AC?
(6) Derrel: AC: [34] -> 34
(5) Kibin: (except maybe the first one for me.)
(2) Elorin: (the dice favor us :D )
(5) Kibin: (holy. i envy derrel now. :(
(1) GM: And the giant can't lay a finger on the holy man.....
(5) Kibin: (okay, i think it's time for the giant to get schooled again after elorin.)
(2) Elorin: (I think that 6 is the highest base roll the giant has made so far for attacking)
(1) GM: Well, other than those close calls where the axe bounces off the Plate and shield....
(1) GM: Elorin?
** (2) Elorin wants to try something **
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Greater Command ( level 5, "As command, but affects one subject/level" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 5 Spell ( level 5, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) Elorin: "Halt!" (at the giant, in common)
(5) Kibin: (haha. lol.)
(2) Elorin: (Will DC 23)
(1) GM: [1d20+13] -> [12,13] = (25)
(5) Kibin: (aw. :(
(1) GM: And the Giant just ignores the silly little elf.
(3) Kaylin: (ooh, we're being elfist..)
(5) Kibin: (my turn? :)
(1) GM: Jason's, actually....
(1) GM: Evervation, Level 4: 1d4 neagative levels, close ranged touch attack, no save, SR. nagative levels: [1d4] -> [4] = (4)
(2) Elorin: (get a few more negative levels, and it might work the next time...)
(5) Kibin: (btw, secondary weapons get -5, right?)
(5) Kibin: (second value on BAB.)
(1) GM: Touch Attack, for use with spells (base): [1d20+5] -> [4,5] = (9) ===> Damage: [Bad dice format] - [0d0+0]
(5) Kibin: (ooo. if this hits, the giant shall get owned.)
(1) GM: Still not getting Dex in there....
(5) Kibin: (and the giant is NOT owned. aw.)
(1) GM: A hit, yes.
(5) Kibin: (okay, it IS owned.)
(1) GM: And i've been forgetting the two from earlier on his saves.... didn't matter, though.
(1) GM: Kibin?
** (5) Kibin tries and own the giant again, with a bite and two claw attacks. **
(5) Kibin: [1d20+13] -> [7,13] = (20)
(5) Kibin: [1d20+8] -> [4,8] = (12)
(5) Kibin: [1d20+8] -> [11,8] = (19)
(5) Kibin: (bah.)
** (5) Kibin thinks he needs to get these teeth and claws enchanted, somehow. **
(1) GM: And the pathetic little cold dragon simply can't get past the huge gaps in the Giant's armor, despite help from the Knight standing across from him.
(1) GM: Derrel?
(6) Derrel: +5 Oraneormu #1 Attack Roll: [1d20+23] -> [12,23] = (35)===> DMG: [1d8+5+2d6+2] -> [7,5,6,5,2] = (25)
(6) Derrel: +5 Oraneormu #2 Attack Roll: [1d20+18] -> [12,18] = (30)===> DMG: [1d8+5+2d6+2] -> [2,5,6,6,2] = (21)

(5) Kibin: [1d20+13] -> [7,13] = (20)
(5) Kibin: (bah.)
(1) GM: AC 29, flanking, two hits (opportunity didn't knowck so well, though....) for 46 damage. The giant howls in agony as the holy energies rip through it's thigh, causing much blood loss.
(1) GM: It seems to be on it's last legs.
(2) Elorin: (opportunist, Kibin?)
(1) GM: He missed.
(1) GM: Kaylin?
(2) Elorin: (oh, right)
(5) Kibin: (yeah. opportunist is one of the GREATEST feats for a rogue.)
(2) Elorin: (Mind Fog?)
(2) Elorin: (Make Greater Command almost guaranteed to work?)
(5) Kibin: (elorin, greater command works half the time. try it again.)
** (3) Kaylin runs some more, continuing to sulk about being too scared by a wimpy little giant **
(1) GM: Full run, puts you at 240 feet.
(5) Kibin: (wait.)
(5) Kibin: (kaylin can't run. she's fatigued.)
(1) GM: Giant's turn... and it really, really wants to kill that paladin....
(1) GM: Hmm... you're right. Oh well, long ways off, Kaylin.
(1) GM: +2 frost greataxe [1d20+22] -> [7,22] = (29) for [3d6+15+1d6] -> [5,5,6,15,6] = (37) +2 frost greataxe [1d20+17] -> [17,17] = (34) for [3d6+15+1d6] -> [6,5,2,15,3] = (31) +2 frost greataxe [1d20+12] -> [7,12] = (19) for [3d6+15+1d6] -> [3,3,6,15,6] = (33) +2 frost greataxe [1d20+7] -> [8,7] = (15) for [3d6+15+1d6] -> [3,5,3,15,2] = (28)
(5) Kibin: (one hit, 31 damage.)
(1) GM: One hit, for 31 damage to Derrel.
(5) Kibin: (yup. :)
(1) GM: Elorin?
(5) Kibin: (hehe. i think i know the system almost as much as you do, jack.)
(6) Derrel: (I'm going to have to log off sooner than 2:00 - Have to do stuff to get ready)
(2) Elorin: "I say again, HALT!"
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Greater Command ( level 5, "As command, but affects one subject/level" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 5 Spell ( level 5, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Kibin: (wow. elorin is english? who would have known.)
(1) GM: WIll: [1d20+7] -> [15,7] = (22)
(2) Elorin: (failed :D )
(3) Kaylin: (English?)
(5) Kibin: (hehe. just how he said that. struck me as odd.)
(6) Derrel: (To qoute Daggerfall, 'HALT! HALT! HALT!')
(1) GM: The Giant ceases active attacking, but continues to try and dodge.....
(1) GM: Jason's turn.....
(1) GM: Jason: Feel like falling?
(1) GM: Evervation, Level 4: 1d4 neagative levels, close ranged touch attack, no save, SR. nagative levels: [1d4] -> [1] = (1)
(1) GM: Touch Attack, for use with spells (base): [1d20+5] -> [18,5] = (23) ===> Damage: [Bad dice format] - [0d0+0]
(1) GM: Touch succeeds; 1 negative level applies.
(1) GM: Giant: Not really, no.
(5) Kibin: (elorin, you shuold have used drop, or fall. especially fall.)
(5) Kibin: (prone for 1 round, can't get up.)
(2) Elorin: (well, at least that makes it a little bit harder for the giant to make the subsequent saves)
(5) Kibin: (-4 to AC :)
(1) GM: Kibin?
(2) Elorin: (yeah, but he can act normally aside from being prone)
(5) Kibin: (my turn, i believe.)
(2) Elorin: (this way, he can't attack)
** (5) Kibin does another bite/double claw combo. **
(5) Kibin: [1d20+13[
(5) Kibin: [1d20+13] -> [11,13] = (24)

(5) Kibin: [1d20+8] -> [1,8] = (9)
(5) Kibin: (wow, one hit.)
(5) Kibin: (and a critical failure on the second claw attack.)
(5) Kibin: [1d4+1+7d6] -> [2,1,3,3,1,2,6,3,3] = (24)
(1) GM: And the giant screams as the pesky little dragon slips a claw into a sensitive spot... but laughs as he goes down when the dragon wrenches his other claw.
(5) Kibin: (and, 24 damage. 2 strength damage.)
(5) Kibin: (it's down?)
(1) GM: And the giant falls flat, dead.
(5) Kibin: (or am i down...)
(1) GM: Kibin, Derrel, Earth Elemental[1d3] -> [2] = (2)
(1) GM: Derrel, make a reflex save as it falls in your direction....
(6) Derrel: Reflex save: [1d20+8] -> [11,8] = (19)
(5) Kibin: (oh SURE, hit the reflexless paladin.)
(1) GM: And the paladin manages to skip our of the way of the falling giant.
** (5) Kibin comments, "Well, that was easy. I guess we make camp here?" **
(5) Kibin: (and, elorin heals us all.)
(1) GM: You notice some rainbow colored flashing lights over the horizon.
(3) Kaylin: (probably about time to rest for the night?)
(6) Derrel: (Camp? Ok, Derrel gets out a sniper rifle...)
(5) Kibin: Ooo, what's that.
(3) Kaylin: (spellcraft check?)
(5) Kibin: (and i sneak up behind derrel and assasinate him...)
(5) Kibin: (actually, i think it would be a nature check.)
(3) Kaylin: (flashing lights?)
(5) Kibin: (yes.)
(1) GM: Spellcraft.
** (6) Derrel waits for the wizards to figure out what the lights are. **
(3) Kaylin: (oh, Aurora)
(3) Kaylin: (however you spell that)
(5) Kibin: (there's a natural phenomena which creates flashing lights just like that.)
** (2) Elorin passes out healing while everyone else looks at the pretty lights **
(3) Kaylin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+31] -> [20,31] = (51)
(5) Kibin: (aurora borelialis.)

(2) Elorin: [2d8+10] -> [8,6,10] = (24)
(6) Derrel: (Yes - But that doesn't mean it's causing this)
(2) Elorin: [2d8+10] -> [4,5,10] = (19)
(5) Kibin: (i think you know everything about that spell...)
(2) Elorin: (that should take care of me and Kaylin, Kibin's already got his cure minor's)
** (5) Kibin is healed by the cure minor wounds. Yay. **
(2) Elorin: (how much does Derrel need?)
(6) Derrel: (36)
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Serious Wounds ( level 3, "Cures 3d8 damage +1/level (max +15)" )

(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 1 Spell ( level 1, "Spell slot tracking device" )

(2) Elorin: [1d8+5] -> [6,5] = (11)
** (5) Kibin hovers over to Kaylin. **
(6) Derrel: (Thanks)
(6) Derrel: (Actually...)
(6) Derrel: "Thanks"
(3) Kaylin: I think we're in the right place.
(5) Kibin: So, what are the pretty flashing lights, oh great sparkcaster?
(3) Kaylin: Prismatic-type spells, it looks like a Prismatic Sphere and four prismatic walls
(5) Kibin: Oh. Still pretty.
(5) Kibin: Heh, I think I can fly just as well as you can now, Jason. Just not go though walls.
(1) GM: Jason: Shall we take a look around? Giants usually have some treasure, no?
(2) Elorin: Sure
(2) Elorin: Let's see what that boulder left of his hut :P
(1) GM: coin

(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 0 Spell ( level 0, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Kibin: :flies around while they're looking over the gems.
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Analyze Dweomer ( level 6, "Reveals magical aspects of subject." )
(1) GM: At which ones? Elorin hasn't elucidated his results yet.
(3) Kaylin: (argh. Bah.)
(2) Elorin: Potion, wand, axe, and armor
(5) Kibin: (see? :)
(3) Kaylin: (potion, wand, axe, armor :D)
** (5) Kibin flies into the hut, hovering near the two, then landing. **
(3) Kaylin: This giant had some pretty good stuff with him.
** (3) Kaylin starts explaining **
(1) GM: Jason: Not that it's very useful....
(5) Kibin: Ah. So just a bunch of stuff I can't use, and some money. Well, except the healing potion, which we should keep.
(6) Derrel: "Well, the thunderstone could be helpfull.
(3) Kaylin: I could use that wand...
(3) Kaylin: (why?)
(5) Kibin: Thunderstones?
(6) Derrel: (Deafen enemies)
(3) Kaylin: Well, are we going to rest here for the night?
(6) Derrel: (Page 129 of the PHB)
(2) Elorin: It's been a long day
(3) Kaylin: (Pointy Haired Boss? :P)
(6) Derrel: "They can deafen enemies. They are not very powerfull, though."
(5) Kibin: Ah.
(1) GM: (not that kind of thunderstone: Link)
(2) Elorin: (the link doesn't work for me)
(1) GM:
(1) GM: Didn't quite balance.....
(1) GM: Should be good now.
(2) Elorin: (now it does)
(6) Derrel: "Ah. Different kind of thunderstone."
(5) Kibin: Jason, now you're not the best in the air anymore.
(1) GM: Jason: Oh? For that matter, when did I say I was?
(5) Kibin: Well, you can float around.
(5) Kibin: You don't have to turn to change directions. You just float where you want to go.
(1) GM: (From SRD: "Benefit: When flying, the creature can halt its forward motion and hover in place as a move action. It can then fly in any direction, including straight down or straight up, at half speed, regardless of its maneuverability.")
(5) Kibin: (yup.)
(5) Kibin: (which is kinda like perfect maneuverability.)
(5) Kibin: (except i have to use a move action to start hovering.)
(6) Derrel: (Have to go do something. I'll be back)
(1) GM: (at a much lower speed, but takes a move to start)
(1) GM: Jason: So, shall we investigate those pretty lights?
(5) Kibin: (half speed. which is 50. your fly speed is 30. neener.)
(5) Kibin: Sure, why not?
(3) Kaylin: Have fun, you two.
(5) Kibin: (don't forget about low oxygen and the cold, btw.)
whispering to Kaylin, you know the Archmage's tower is somewhere around here.....
(3) Kaylin: The Archmage tower is somewhere around here, see if you can spot it.
(1) GM: Jason wanders off, then comes back after a time.
** (5) Kibin flies off and looks for the tower. Making sure not to fly into any walls on the way, of course. **
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts See Invisibility ( level 2, "Reveals invisible creatures or objects." )
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Limited Wish ( level 7, "Alters reality-within spell limits." )
(3) Kaylin: (permanent See Invisibility)
(5) Kibin: (hey.)
whispering to Kibin, you see a big, block-like arrangement of walls, flashing in all the colors of the rainbow, shaped much like a tower, rounded off at the top with a dome of the same sort
(5) Kibin: (neener to you. :P)
(3) Kaylin: (hehe)
** (5) Kibin flies back to the group, landing in the soft snow. "There's a tower looking thingie made out of those rainbow colored walls." **
(3) Kaylin: Stylish.
(5) Kibin: Um, what do those walls do, anyway?
(2) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [4,18] = (22)
(5) Kibin: (kaylin should know already.)
(3) Kaylin: Many things, it's a very powerful spell.
whispering to Elorin, you have no idea what he's talking about....
(3) Kaylin: Essentially it is 7 walls put together in one, each of which stops a different effect.
(5) Kibin: Ah. It doesn't zap you or anything, like that prismatic spray thingie you did on that dragon?
(3) Kaylin: Don't try to pass through, by the way. Each of the layers is capable of immense damage.
(3) Kaylin: For example, the green layer will kill you, the blue layer turns you to stone....
(5) Kibin: Oh. Um, then how do they walk around that tower, then?
(1) GM: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [9,18] = (27)
(1) GM: Jason: I do believe that particular spell refuses to hurt it's caster at all....
(1) GM: Jason: And there might be something more mundane on the other side.
(3) Kaylin: That is the most likely solution they have pursued.
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Comprehend Languages ( level 1, "You understand all written and spoken aspects of all languages." )
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Limited Wish ( level 7, "Alters reality-within spell limits." )
(5) Kibin: Ah. Like that force wall thingie, that the king had?
(3) Kaylin: (and permanent Comprehend Languages..)
(5) Kibin: (kaylin. you're spoiled. :P)
(3) Kaylin: (yay wizards)
(5) Kibin: (you did just waste 600 XP, though.)
(3) Kaylin: (Just wait 'til I get some more XP..)
(2) Elorin: (heh, who needs Polyglot? :P)
(3) Kaylin: (500.)
(1) GM: (1500 xp, actually.... 500 for the Comprehend Languages, 1000 for the See Invisible)
(5) Kibin: (no. 300. 300 per casting of limited wish.)
(5) Kibin: (haha. :P)
(3) Kaylin: (the XP cost of limited wish changes)
(1) GM: (unless the duplicated spell costs more - as in the case of Permanency)
(2) Elorin: (300 minimum cost)
(5) Kibin: (you'll be a bit behind us now.)
(3) Kaylin: (oh well)
(5) Kibin: So, shall we knock?
(3) Kaylin: Let's rest for tonight
(2) Elorin: I think we should wait for the morning
(3) Kaylin: I have a feeling they won't take kindly to a group of strangers without proof of our abilities.
(2) Elorin: They might not like being woken up in the middle of the night
(1) GM: Jason: Well, meet you under the cover of the wagon.
(5) Kibin: Fine, fine.
(1) GM: Jason walks into the privacy afforded by the wagon.
(5) Kibin: I'll just sleep in the snow.
** (3) Kaylin glances around in case there's invisible stuff in plain sight, then goes to the wagon **
(1) GM: Oh, and all corporeals that aren't immune to cold - Fort save....
(2) Elorin: (what about cold resistance?)
(1) GM: +2 if you are wearing a winter outfit....
(2) Elorin: (I got that at 15th level)
(3) Kaylin: (how about Endure Elements?)
** (6) Derrel goes to the wagon. **
(1) GM: Cold resistence stops the results....
(6) Derrel: Fortitude save: [1d20+12] -> [4,12] = (16)
(6) Derrel: (I'm going to have to log off at 1:00)
(1) GM: If it's up, sure.
(3) Kaylin: (bah, forgot to put it up 'til now.)
(1) GM: DC 20, unfortunately.
(5) Kibin: (haha. you're freezing your feet off.)
(3) Kaylin: Fortitude save: [1d20+9] -> [5,9] = (14)
** (2) Elorin buries Kibin in the snow once he picks a spot to sleep **
(1) GM: Derrel: [2d6] -> [5,3] = (8) cold damage, and you aren't resting successfully.
(1) GM: Kaylin: [2d6] -> [4,6] = (10) cold damage, and you aren't resting successfully.
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Endure Elements ( level 1, "Exist comfortably in hot or cold environments." )
(3) Kaylin: (bring on the rest.)
(5) Kibin: (and there's probally the oxygen problem.)
(1) GM: Kibin doesn't need to roll, but Elorin does...
(1) GM: ... as it's potentially 12 damage.
** (3) Kaylin puts on a fur coat out of habit. **
(2) Elorin: Fortitude save: [1d20+15] -> [14,15] = (29)
(1) GM: And he passes, taking no damage.
** (5) Kibin snoozes soundly in his snow blanket. **
** (5) Kibin notes that he's still in the fog thingie. **
(1) GM: (well, [2d6/2] -> 3.0... but that's no more than 12)
(1) GM: (sorry, caps at 6....)
** (3) Kaylin adopts a meditative pose that's slightly attractive as well and rests **
(1) GM: Elorin can rest peacefully, as can Kaylin (now), Derrel, however, doesn't get the benefit of sleep tonight as is.
(2) Elorin: (hmm, spot check to notice him shivering?)
(3) Kaylin: Derrel, tomorrow, if we don't manage to get some respite, I'll prepare one for you too.
(1) GM: DC 10....
(2) Elorin: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [10,10] = (20)
(1) GM: Unless he's trying to hide it...
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Resist Energy ( level 2, "Ignores 10 (or more) points of damage/attack from specified energy type" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 2 Spell ( level 2, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Kibin: [1d20+13] -> [11,13] = (24)
(1) GM: In which case, opposed by Bluff.
(6) Derrel: "Thanks"
(1) GM: Pity it only lasts 160 minutes.... 2.5 hours....
(5) Kibin: (i wonder if you can use reverse psychology with bluff.)
(1) GM: Still takes the damage, but can now sleep for the duration.
(5) Kibin (whispering): isn't there an oxygen problem for mountains?
(1) GM: Also, need to have the bird save... although the feathers would help.....
(1) GM: [1d20+3] -> [13,3] = (16)
(6) Derrel: (Bird?)
(1) GM: Feather based natural armor adds to the save.... so half damage [2d6/2] -> 2.5
(2) Elorin: (Jason's new familiar)
(1) GM: Round down.
(1) GM: Jason: Hmm... you look cold....
(1) GM: Jason casts a spell....
(1) GM: and an opaque sphere appears around the wagon, which warms up considerably.
(1) GM: Will saves, if you choose, everyone....
whispering to Kaylin, Shadow Evocation
(3) Kaylin: (Will save against being warm?)
(5) Kibin: [1d20+11] -> [3,11] = (14)
(5) Kibin: (yes. i hate being warm.)
(1) GM: DC 25 - Kibin, you don't notice anything out of the ordinary about it.
(5) Kibin: (yay!)
(1) GM: Jason: That's better.... poor little bird....
(1) GM: Jason: Sleep well.
(1) GM: Anyone keeping watch?
(5) Kibin (whispering): here it is. mountain travel. 5,000 to 15,000 feet requires a DC 15 fortutide save an hour, +1 per previous check, or be fatigued.
(1) GM: Also, who's sleeping where?
whispering to Kibin, high enough to get snow, but not quite high enough to have much trouble with it
** (5) Kibin is sleeping in a nice snow blanket, inside the fogbank. **
(5) Kibin (whispering): aw.
(6) Derrel: (How much room is there in the carraige?)
(5) Kibin (whispering): but i can breathe in high mountains! it's not fair.
(1) GM: Enough for two people to lay out comfortably.
whispering to Kibin, you didn't have to save for the cold; others took damage.
** (2) Elorin meditates for 2 hours, gets up fully refreshed and stands watch **
(5) Kibin: (and i guess it would be parked in the fog bank.)
(3) Kaylin: (I should be in the carriage)
** (6) Derrel is sleeping in the wagon, I guess. **
** (2) Elorin makes sure Kibin is completely obscured by snow just for something to do **
(1) GM: Jason retires his watch and rests to regain spells after Elorin wakes.
(5) Kibin: (heh. you know you could make someone swallow a portable hole, then place them in a bag of holding to kill them?)
** (5) Kibin shakes the snow off his head. **
(1) GM: Elorin - Spot check.
(1) GM: [1d20+19] -> [13,19] = (32)
(2) Elorin: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [17,10] = (27)
(1) GM: You don't see anything.
(1) GM: Listen checks everyone - at -10 for those who are asleep.
(2) Elorin: (grr. Maybe I should start actually putting ranks in that)
(2) Elorin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [19,10] = (29)
(1) GM: [1d20+23] -> [7,23] = (30)
(3) Kaylin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+4] -> [11,4] = (15)
(5) Kibin: [1d20+7] -> [3,7] = (10)
(5) Kibin: (dang it.)
(3) Kaylin: (hmm, I got a 5.)
(1) GM: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [6,10] = (16)
(5) Kibin: (why must you give us random encounters when sleeping? WE'RE HIDDEN!)
(1) GM: (Stupid clear tracks in the snow....)
(3) Kaylin: (we left tracks?)
(1) GM: Nobody hears anything, but Kaylin is very upset in the morning.
(6) Derrel: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+1] -> [6,1] = (7)
(3) Kaylin: (Did we even move?)
(5) Kibin: (stupid we didn't go anywhere after we hit the ground and we flew for the whole trip...)
(6) Derrel: (It's snowing - The tracks would be obscured
(3) Kaylin: (er, what am I upset about?)
(3) Kaylin: (/me has a baaaaad feeling about this)
(5) Kibin: (do i wake up to find myself buried again? :P)
(1) GM: (A missing bag and spellbook)
(3) Kaylin: (swearword)
(3) Kaylin: (I KNEW you'd do that. I knew it... :P)
(2) Elorin: (wasn't that locked away somewhere?)
(1) GM: (gave you plenty of warning.....)
(3) Kaylin: (inside the fog bank...)
(3) Kaylin: (and I'm wearing the bag...?)
(5) Kibin: (apparently whoever stole the bag has no qualms about reaching inside a woman's clothing.)
(3) Kaylin: (I mean, what else is that belt for)
(1) GM: (after the Scrying failed several times, he started sending out scouts.....)
(3) Kaylin: (raise your hand if you do :D)
(5) Kibin: (okay. do you know how LARGE the world is! :P)
(3) Kaylin: (not big enough)
(1) GM: So, morning reactions?
(2) Elorin: (we're 1000 miles away, and his scouts could still find us without the help of scrying?)
(3) Kaylin: (they've got some impressive talent there)
(5) Kibin: (am i buried in the snow again completly? :P)
(1) GM: You didn't see invisible during the trip....
(1) GM: Nah, just up to your neck.
(3) Kaylin: (And didn't see anything while looking around?)
(2) Elorin: (they could keep up with us at 60 mph?)
** (5) Kibin shakes the snow off. "Ah, it feels good up here in the mountains." **
(5) Kibin: Um, what's the sphere for?
(6) Derrel: (They could find us in snowbanks?)
(1) GM: Once you sat down, they hid popped back to report....
(1) GM: Jason: Keeping my newest friend warm.
(3) Kaylin: Umm, where's my spellbook? And my bag?
(1) GM: Jason: Elorin, weren't you keeping watch?
(1) GM: Jason: Perhaps we should look around for clues.
(2) Elorin: I didn't notice anything
(5) Kibin: Bah. Maybe I should keep watch next time, noone can get past me.
(3) Kaylin: (by the way, wouldn't someone reaching inside of my clothes wake me up?)
(3) Kaylin: (I don't know about the rest of you, but it would me..)
(1) GM: (Very skilled, these demons are....)
(5) Kibin: (you had a wonderful dream the other night...)
(3) Kaylin: Elorin: can you see invisible things?
(3) Kaylin: (/me strangles Kibin)
(2) Elorin: no
(3) Kaylin: ah. Wonderful...
** (3) Kaylin tries to remain calm **
** (3) Kaylin kicks some snow around **
(1) GM: Search Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [20,10] = (30)
(5) Kibin: I can kind of see invisible.
(1) GM: Jason: I think I found some tracks in the snow....
(5) Kibin: I know if something is near me, at least.
(1) GM: (pity you were mostly buried, and denied line of effect.....)
(5) Kibin: (but it was snuggly! :P)
(3) Kaylin: Well, what are we waitnig for?! Let's go!
(1) GM: Jason: Anyone know how to track?
(5) Kibin: Um, where exactly?
(1) GM: Jason: Next to the carriage.
(1) GM: Jason: I suppose you could remember your furry form for a while.....
(5) Kibin: Um, I think knowing how to track was in the instincts of the wolf. I can't track anymore, don't know how.
(1) GM: Jason: Well.... I suppose it's good that it didn't snow last night....
(1) GM: Wilderness Lore Skill Check: [1d20+2] -> [1,2] = (3)
(1) GM: Jason: I still can't seem to follow them, though. Elorin? Maybe you would have better luck.
(2) Elorin: Wilderness Lore Skill Check: [1d20+8] -> [11,8] = (19)
whispering to Elorin, DC 4 - yep, you can follow them quite easily
(2) Elorin: They go this way.
whispering to Elorin, seems to be a path like a snake might make..... a Large snake....
** (2) Elorin starts following the tracks **
(5) Kibin: Hmmm, wonder what there is around here that I can eat...
** (3) Kaylin follows Elorin **
** (3) Kaylin gets the wagon and carriage to follow too **
(2) Elorin: Looks like some sort of large snake left these tracks
** (6) Derrel follows Elorin **
(5) Kibin: Ah, crud. Not one of those 6-armed freaks, I hope.
(3) Kaylin: A marilith, perhaps?
** (2) Elorin guesses it was a Maralith **
(1) GM: The tracks lead up to the tower... a rainbow flashing thing, 100 feet on a side, and to a stone archway set in the side of the wall.
(3) Kaylin: (how the heck does SHE get in my clothes?)
(5) Kibin: That thing almost killed me last time...
(5) Kibin: (a sleep spell seems like a good bet. or a plot device.)
(3) Kaylin: (damn plot devices)
(3) Kaylin: (what kind of save do you make against them/)
(1) GM: Still a flashing rainbow wall inside the arch, though.
(3) Kaylin: Grrr.
(6) Derrel: (Save vs. Whack the GM?)
(1) GM: (In this case, it was Spot and Listen)
** (5) Kibin walks along with them. "Okay then, who's the first to walk through the scary rainbow wall?" **
(5) Kibin: Wait. Hmmm.
(5) Kibin: Does each of those colors correspond to a different effect?
(3) Kaylin: Yes
(2) Elorin: (I wonder what chance I would have of making every save for going through that wall)
(3) Kaylin: (small)
(3) Kaylin: (and still 1d6 Con damage)
(2) Elorin: (with 15/19/21 saves...)
(5) Kibin: So... couldn't Elorin do that resist energy thingie, and we pass through at exactly the right time?
(2) Elorin: (22 will if we stop for Heroes' Feast)
(1) GM: Jason: So.... who's life and limb do we risk, or do you have the right spell for the job?
(6) Derrel: (Gotta go)
(1) GM: Have fun.
(2) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [20,18] = (38)
(3) Kaylin: (nice)
(2) Elorin: It takes a lot to take out a Prismatic Wall
(2) Elorin: Ordinary dispels simply don't work.
(5) Kibin: I probally don't even need resistances, as I've got immunity to a few things...
(3) Kaylin: I think the best solution is going to be to try to talk to whoever's inside.
(3) Kaylin: (try it!:)
whispering to Elorin, Prismatic wall; Look it Up if you like
(6) Derrel: Disconnecting from server...
(6) Derrel (exit): 13:05
(1) GM: Jason: Hmm... I wonder.....
** (2) Elorin looks around for any sort of doorbell or knocker **
(3) Kaylin: (and that reminds me, I have to leave in about 15 minutes for a while)
(1) GM: Jason dives undergound.
(1) GM: Jason pops back up.
(5) Kibin: (can we just pause then?)
(3) Kaylin: (or NPC me.)
(1) GM: Jason: It doesn't appear to continue underground....
(5) Kibin: (till next week? because saturday is prime gameplay time.)
(5) Kibin: Yeah, that's nice for you people that can fly underground. Can you time youself to choose what effect is done to you?
whispering to Kaylin, no.
whispering to Elorin, no.
(3) Kaylin: It'd render the wall rather less effective. No
(2) Elorin: No, you get them all
(5) Kibin: Ouch.
(5) Kibin: Okay, who votes for knocking?
(1) GM: Jason: Hmm.... the stones are already inside the wall....
(5) Kibin: Lets just knock.
(5) Kibin: Hello, anyone in there...
(1) GM: Jason: On what?
(1) GM: You don't get a response.
(5) Kibin: Um, does the wall block sound?
whispering to Kaylin, Stops everything, yes.
(3) Kaylin: Yes.
(1) GM: Jason: So, any travel style spells prepared?
(5) Kibin: Dang.
(3) Kaylin: Yes.
(1) GM: Jason: Teleport, Dimension Door, or some such?
** (5) Kibin flicks a rock towards the Prismatic door, bored. **
(1) GM: And watches it pass into the wall, to no apparent effect.
(3) Kaylin: Teleport would work, probably.
(3) Kaylin: (this is one of them illusions, isn't it.)
(5) Kibin: Huh.
(3) Kaylin: (an illusion of an illusionary spell..)
(3) Kaylin: Well, that was interesting.
(5) Kibin: Shouldn't there be sparks or something?
(1) GM: (You can check....)
(3) Kaylin: Elorin, could you fire an arrow through there?
(3) Kaylin: (spellcraft?)
** (5) Kibin flicks another rock at the wall. **
(1) GM: (examine closely, and will save....)
(3) Kaylin: (I'll leave that to Elorin, he has better saves)
(1) GM: And wach it pass into the wall, to no apparent effect.
(3) Kaylin: (and more HP...)
** (2) Elorin gets out some rope, ties it around a rock, tosses the rock through and pulls it back **
(1) GM: And gets only a portion of the rope returned... that which didn't hit the wall.
** (5) Kibin flicks a rock at the stone archway. **
(3) Kaylin: Now that's interesting.
(1) GM: The stone passes through, to no apparent effect.
(1) GM: Jason: Well, I can just walk around....
(5) Kibin: Um.
(3) Kaylin: I can too...
(1) GM: Jason: I wonder... could we knock a stone loose?
(2) Elorin: You mean from inside?
(2) Elorin: To open a passage for the rest of us?
(5) Kibin: You try. I'm not going near the wall.
(1) GM: Jason: No, from here - the archway sticks through....
(5) Kibin: Just go inside, and ask someone.
(1) GM: Jason: Not a bad idea....
(1) GM: Jason walks underground, and a minute later, comes back.
(1) GM: Jason: Didn't see anyone.
(1) GM: Jason: Well, I suppose, if nobody else has any other ideas....
(1) GM: Ghost Telekenesis: Violent Thrust: Standard Action: Attack rolls (one per creature or object thrown) to hit target with loose items. Wait: [1d4] -> [2] = (2) rounds; attack roll: [1d20+15] -> [10,15] = (25)
** (5) Kibin sighs. "Why can't wizards just have a nice stone tower?" **
(1) GM: Jason yanks a bunch of the stones out of the arch; the rest collapse in, hitting the door-wall and dissapearing, leaving a three-inch gap in the same form as the arch.
(5) Kibin: Why do they have to be so complex?
(1) GM: A ways behind the walls, you can see what looks like mundane stone....
(5) Kibin: Now what do we do...
(1) GM: Jason: Anyone up to getting through that?
(3) Kaylin: (I have to go now, NPC me. Know where my charsheet is?)
(2) Elorin: That's plenty big enough for Wind Walk
(5) Kibin: Hmmmm. Theoretically I could get through it.
(1) GM: (Have it on hand... but you really need to be here for the duel..... ah well, when you return....)
(5) Kibin: Without windwalk.
(1) GM: Jason: Well, seems we have a method.
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Wind Walk ( level 6, "You and your allies turn vaporous and travel fast" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(3) Kaylin: (I'll try to hurry back)
(5) Kibin: You people go first...
** (2) Elorin becomes a very thin cloud and goes through the gap, rematerializing on the other side **
(5) Kibin: If you vanish, I know not to come in.
(1) GM: Jason walks underground, and Wind Dancer simply walks very carefully through the gap, gripping the ground.
(1) GM: Elorin - while traveling, a stiff breeze hits you... save vs. Reflex.
(2) Elorin: Reflex save: [1d20+19] -> [13,19] = (32)
(1) GM: Congrats - you don't quite hit the wall.
(1) GM: Jason: Coming, Kibin?
** (5) Kibin whimpers. **
** (5) Kibin goes into wind form, and sneaks through too... **
(2) Elorin: Be careful, there's a breeze
(1) GM: Kaylin is hand-waved through without any issues.....
(1) GM: Reflex save?
(5) Kibin: [1d20+15] -> [14,15] = (29)
** (2) Elorin attempts to block the breeze, if that can be done without touching the wall **
(5) Kibin: (HALLAUAH! :P)
(5) Kibin: (please be enough.)
(1) GM: DC 30.
(5) Kibin: (cruuuuuuuud. :(
(1) GM: First, save vs. Reflex (Fire!)
(2) Elorin: (any bonus for me trying to block the wind?)
(5) Kibin: [1d20+15] -> [3,15] = (18)
(2) Elorin: (or having given warning?)
(1) GM: Nope, can't be done....
(1) GM: DC 22 - failed. take [20*1.5] -> 30.0 fire damage.
(1) GM: Another reflex save, also DC 22.
(5) Kibin: [1d20+15] -> [18,15] = (33)
(5) Kibin: (now for the two death effects...)
(1) GM: Success! Reflex from the ACID damage
(5) Kibin: (HEY! i'm immune to the freaking acid damage!)
(1) GM: Another reflex save....
(5) Kibin: (that should have been for the electricity damage!)
(2) Elorin: (he's got a point)
(1) GM: Oh, all right - skip the electricity damage.... Fort save.
(5) Kibin: [1d20+11] -> [16,11] = (27)
(5) Kibin: (YAY!)
(1) GM: Success; take [1d6] -> [2] = (2) con damage.
(1) GM: Another Fort save....
(5) Kibin: [1d20+11] -> [5,11] = (16)
(5) Kibin: (oh well.)
(5) Kibin: (we have kaylin. ;)
(2) Elorin: (that one I can fix, at least)
(2) Elorin: (Break Enchantment)
(1) GM: Turned to stone; Will save.
(5) Kibin: [1d20+11] -> [19,11] = (30)
(1) GM: Success - you don't go insane.
(5) Kibin: (actually, i'm no longer living, so insanity does not affect me.)
(1) GM: And another will save.
(5) Kibin: (technically.)
(5) Kibin: [1d20+11] -> [5,11] = (16)
(5) Kibin: (figures.)
(2) Elorin: (damn)
(2) Elorin: (sent to another plane)
(1) GM: (well, I did it that way so that the final layer wouldn't automatically destroy any body...)
(5) Kibin: (but the 30 save should have been for the plane spell. insanity shouldn't affect stone :P)
(1) GM: (Which Elorin needs to ressurect you.....)
(5) Kibin: (i do NOT want a negative level. :P)
(1) GM: You are now a statue on another plane.
(1) GM: [1d20] -> [18] = (18)
(5) Kibin: (weeee.)
(2) Elorin: (well, with what happened, we just need to find you)
(2) Elorin: (no resurrection required)
whispering to GM, Etherial plane.....
(5) Kibin: (oh sure. that's all you have to do.)
(2) Elorin: (that and cast Break Enchantment or Stone to Flesh)
(5) Kibin: (it better not be the plane of fire.)
(1) GM: Jason: Poor Kibin. He's a statue.
(1) GM: Jason: Wait a minute....
(1) GM: Jason reaches over and plucks something out of the air....
(1) GM: Jason: Why can I touch him?
(5) Kibin: (huh. did i just get extremely lucky or something.)
** (2) Elorin blinks **
(2) Elorin: Oh
(2) Elorin: got sent to the Etherial plane, did he?
(1) GM: Jason: It would seem so. Lucky him.
(5) Kibin: (and i have 30 fire damage. owie.)
(1) GM: Jason: Looks a tad burned....
(5) Kibin: (a tad? :P)
(2) Elorin: (only 20, actually. Remember your new ring?)
(5) Kibin: (bah. stone doesn't talk. i'll be quiet now.)
(5) Kibin: (oh yeah.)
(1) GM: (hard to tell, what with the monochrome grey....)
(1) GM: On the ground lies a bag... a very familiar bag.....
(1) GM: Kaylin snatches it up.
(1) GM: Kaylin: Yay!
(2) Elorin: Better check the contents
(1) GM: Kaylin walks off for an hour to prepare spells.... from the spellbook she finds inside, that is also very familiar.
(5) Kibin: (does jason have a ghostly stone dragon in hand now? :P)
(1) GM: (Yep)
(1) GM: A ghostly, cloudy, stone dragon......
(2) Elorin: I can cover the Daylight and Dispel Magic
(1) GM: Jason: Elorin, do you think you might be able to do something about Kibin here?
(2) Elorin: Would you happen to have the other 5 spells necessary to get rid of a Prsimatic Wall?
(2) Elorin: If I could get to the Etherial plane, yes
(2) Elorin: Or if we could get him back to the Material
(1) GM: Kaylin sighs: I seem to be missing the Gust of Wind.
(1) GM: Kaylin: As well as Passwall.
(1) GM: Kaylin: A quick Jaunt, though....
(1) GM: Kaylin sits down for an hour, and prepares her spells....
(2) Elorin: (brb)
(5) Kibin: (and in an hour...)
(2) Elorin: (back)
(5) Kibin: (in an hour...)
(1) GM: Kaylin casts her Jaunt, and retrieves Kibin's ghostly stone shell.
** (5) Kibin is now a nice lawn ornament on the Material Plane. **
(1) GM: Jason: So.... Care to fix him, Elorin?
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Break Enchantment ( level 5, "Frees subjects from enchantments, alterations, curses, and petrification" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 5 Spell ( level 5, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) Elorin: [1d20+15] -> [2,15] = (17)
(5) Kibin: (did it break the stone enchantment?)
(2) Elorin: (not with that roll for the caster level check)
(1) GM: DC of 11 + caster level of the effect.
(2) Elorin: This may take a few more tries
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Break Enchantment ( level 5, "Frees subjects from enchantments, alterations, curses, and petrification" )
(5) Kibin: (oh. so 20+)
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 5 Spell ( level 5, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) Elorin: [1d20+15] -> [14,15] = (29)
whispering to Elorin, you do, however, find out that the DC is 26....
(5) Kibin: (that broke it.)
(1) GM: And on the second try, Kibin resumes his cloudy form....
(5) Kibin: (wouldn't i be physical? :P)
(1) GM: (Although technically it's an abjuration......)
(5) Kibin: (hmmm?)
(1) GM: "This spell frees victims from enchantments, transmutations, and curses."
(5) Kibin: (what are you talking about.)
(5) Kibin: (oh. then no windwalk on me.)
(2) Elorin: (Prismatic Wall may be Abjuration, but I think the turn-to-stone part of it has to be Transmutation)
** (5) Kibin hits the ground, no longer affected by windwalk, and with extensive burns on his body. "Ow..." **
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Heal ( level 6, "Cures 10 points/level of damage, all diseases and mental conditions" )
(2) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Kibin: (heal is overpowered.)
(1) GM: (especially for the relatively small damage he took....)
(1) GM: Jason: You look like you've lost some of your robust good health....
(2) Elorin: (it gets the con damage too, though, and any Insanity that I don't know whether he's suffering from or not)
(5) Kibin: (he did remove constitution damage.)
(1) GM: Jason: But you do seem to be doing better now.
** (5) Kibin blinks. "What exactly happened?" **
(1) GM: Jason: A little breeze blew you into the wall.
(5) Kibin: Ah. I survived?
(1) GM: Jason: Sort of.
** (5) Kibin looks at his legs, and wonders why there's acid dripping off of it. **
(2) Elorin: If you call being turned to stone and sent to the Etherial plane surviving, yes
(1) GM: Jason: Would have spent some time as a lawn ornament on the etherial plane if we hadn't intervined.
(2) Elorin: At least it was curable, though
** (5) Kibin also wonders silently why the acid is not harming him. **
(1) GM: Jason: Wondering something? Like why the grass withers where that liquid drips, but you're fine?
(5) Kibin: Yeah, I guess.
(1) GM: Jason: Don't worry about it too much - you're pretty much immune to acid now.
** (5) Kibin shakes the acid off. **
(1) GM: Jason: Just, um, go roll around in the grass for a bit to get it off you.
(1) GM: Elorin - reflex save....
(2) Elorin: Reflex save: [1d20+19] -> [5,19] = (24)
(1) GM: Success - half damage from the [1d6] -> [6] = (6) acid that splashes at you.
(5) Kibin: Oh sure. What grass am I going to find high in the mountains, with snow everwhere?
(2) Elorin: (that would have to be one of the two energy types I don't have resistance too :( )
(1) GM: Area inside the tower is not snow-covered; grass grows in the flickering, bright, Prismatic light from the walls.
(5) Kibin: Oh. That grass.
(1) GM: WindDancer Reflex: [1d20+6] -> [9,6] = (15)
(1) GM: WindDancer also passes, but, being much more agile than Elorin, avoids it all.
(1) GM: Jason just ignores it.
** (2) Elorin needs to get a Ring of Evasion some time :P **
(1) GM: You hear a clapping from behind you.
** (5) Kibin thinks you're too lazy to get the feat. **
(1) GM: An old man walks up.
(1) GM: In grey robes.
** (5) Kibin turns his head behind him, at an 180 degree angle, not bothering to turn around. **
(2) Elorin: (Evasion isn't a feat, it's a class ability)
(2) Elorin: (I'd have to multiclass to get it without an item)
(5) Kibin: (oh.)
(1) GM: Old man: Bravo. Not the normal route. Most people simply port past, one way or another. This was much more fun to watch.
** (5) Kibin turns around. "Am I the first person to survive that wall, or something?" **
(1) GM: Old Man: But then, my pet didn't exactly let the lady prepare whatever she wanted, did it.
(2) Elorin: That's a rather hazardous test to put us through
(1) GM: Old Man: Oh, not really - we deliberately crimped that particular section. And, well, most people are smart enough not to go through the hard way.
(5) Kibin: Well, unlike wizards, I can't simply teleport through.
(2) Elorin: And we weren't expecting the breeze in the opening
(2) Elorin: Without that, it would have been trivial to avoid the wall
(1) GM: Old Man: Well, then this place isn't for your kind. This is a place of magical study. We expect spellcasters.
(1) GM: Old Man: We do need to keep out the clerical riff-raff who want to crash the party.
(5) Kibin: Well, Kaylin is travelling with us, so we travel along with her.
(2) Elorin: She's the one who wanted to come here.
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, yes, the Applicant. She did get past the first of the tests... just not in the expected manner. That's fine - we value creativity.
** (2) Elorin points at Kaylin **
(1) GM: Old Man: Are you ready for the other tests? Most of them involve bookwork; we already reviewed your spells, now it's time for the knoweledge tests, and tomorrow, the Duel.
(1) GM: Kaylin: Books are great.....
(1) GM: A much younger man in a similar robe walk up.
(2) Elorin: (says the +31 Spellcraft bonus... :P)
(1) GM: Younger man: If you will follow me....
** (5) Kibin asks, "Do you, by any chance, have a non-hazardous way of us getting back out?" **
(1) GM: Kaylin and the younger man walk around the tower, out of sight.
(1) GM: Old man: Of course. There's a pair of Teleportation circles set up for getting in and out normally. We just don't tell most people where they are until after they are already inside. When you are ready to leave, it won't be a problem.
(5) Kibin: Ah, good. Don't want to go through that prismatic wall again...
(1) GM: Old man: Oh, and don't try teleporting around in this area too much; there's only the two places that aren't covered by a Lock.
(2) Elorin: I'm curious, has anyone ever actually taken the wall down to get in?
(1) GM: Old Man: One or two. Pricy to set it back up, though.
(1) GM: Old Man: Those are usually our most successful students.
(1) GM: Old Man: And we usually require them to put it back in place....
** (5) Kibin stretches, recovering from being turned into a stone statue floating around on the Etheral Plane. **
(1) GM: Old man: Which reminds me - you up to some stonemasonry?
(5) Kibin: Meh, Jason can do that. I don't want to get anywhere near that wall again...
(2) Elorin: I'm afraid I'm not very skilled at that
(1) GM: Old man: You're decked out like a priest, and it isn't particularly difficult, just time-consuming. You may find you are better at it than you think.... but yes, I'm sure the pale fellow can take care of it.
(5) Kibin: Anything else we should know about? Such as fireball traps?
(1) GM: Old man: Not in the main halls. Don't go opening doors without instruction, though.
(1) GM: Old Man: We really don't take kindly to theft, and have taken measures.
(5) Kibin: Even though I could probally get past a few of the locks, I'll leave the doors alone. Don't want to anger a wizard who can make those walls...
(1) GM: Old Man: Ahh, yes, the rogue, the priest, the warrior, and the wizard - I should have recognized a full adventuring party.
(1) GM: Old man: Well, ghost, ready to get to work?
(5) Kibin: Yes, it's a funny story how I came to be with them...
(1) GM: Jason: I suppose....
(2) Elorin: Plus the ghost sorcerer for an extra
(1) GM: Old Man: I would be happy to hear it....
(1) GM: Craft Skill Check: [1d20+15] -> [8,15] = (23)
(1) GM: -13 for being the craft skill otherwise....
(1) GM: Jason works with the stone for a while, and eventually replaces the archway.
(1) GM: (anyone asking him anything - like, say, the nature of the assorted tests?)
(5) Kibin: I got teleported into another plane, got put in a sack by a demon, then the demon got summoned to attack the party.
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, had a run in with someone who didn't much like you, eh?
(5) Kibin: Seems like the demon's master liked kobold stew, or something.
(1) GM: Old man: Yes, tasty stuff.... although you're hardly a kobold.
(5) Kibin: I was a kobold.
(2) Elorin: Not anymore
(2) Elorin: He got reincarnated as a wolf for a while
(2) Elorin: Then he talked Kaylin into transforming him into a dragon
(1) GM: Old man: Ah, wolf pelts... so warm in the snow..... and now he's just a near-useless little dragon? Ah well.
(5) Kibin: Kaylin chose the dragon by herself, I didn't tell her to transform me to a dragon...
(5) Kibin: What do you mean, useless?
(1) GM: Old Man: Well, it's not like you could get through our wall without help from three different people.....
(5) Kibin: I couldn't get through the wall as a rogue, either.
(1) GM: Old Man: Besides.... you can't do anything much with the hide of a dragon so small.....
(5) Kibin: A kobold rogue, anyway.
(1) GM: Derrel concentrates for a moment, then seems reasonably satisfied, although stilll a bit suspicious.
whispering to GM, Didn't quite detect as evil.....
(5) Kibin: You're not thinking of killing me, are you?
** (2) Elorin tries to assess whether he's being serious **
(2) Elorin: Sense Motive Skill Check: [1d20+8] -> [6,8] = (14)
whispering to Elorin, he's half-serious; he's not joking that they don't take kindly to people breaking and entering, although he wouldn't kill someone just for the hide, meal, or coat....
whispering to Elorin, although he would use the body for that purpose if one of the traps found him.
(1) GM: Old Man: I suppose I could save some of my time if I let you tell the lady wizardess about the Duel....
** (2) Elorin just watches, amused by the old man's taunts **
** (5) Kibin comments, "Being a dragon isn't so bad. I'm immune to cold and acid, can see a lot better, can fly..." **
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, yes, and I'm sure you just loved that nice, hot layer on the way in.....
(1) GM: Old Man: But I can do all that with magic. Shucks, I could Shapechange into something much more powerful than that pesky little form you wear.
(5) Kibin: I'm immortal...
(1) GM: Old Man: That's why we keep a Druid on staff.
(1) GM: Old Man: And you can still be killed.
(5) Kibin: Maybe...
(1) GM: The Old Man grins: Would you like a demonstration? We could run you through one of the Duels.....
(5) Kibin: You still can't be something else for as long as you want, can you? You have to change back every now and then.
(1) GM: Old Man: Eventually, although there are ways around even that.
(1) GM: Old Man: Especially once you get to be my age....
(5) Kibin: Meh.
(1) GM: Old Man: Anyway, I probably should tell you about the duel - it's a good thing the lady brought a priest along; someone usually needs last rites, after.
(5) Kibin: Maybe I'll decide to learn to use magic during my long lifetime.
(1) GM: Old Man: And maybe I'll greet you at the end of time....
(2) Elorin: If you have enough diamonds, I could skip the last rites and just bring the dead back to life...
** (5) Kibin comments, "Keep Kaylin away from druid oils." **
(1) GM: Old Man: We have a great many things in stock, although we don't sell to non-members.....
(5) Kibin: Hated not having opposable thumbs...
(2) Elorin: I don't think I'd do a very good job with the last rites anyway. I was never much for the more ceremonial parts of worship.
(1) GM: Old Man: But as for the duel - it's simple enough; we have an underground arena where run them - no equipment, other than focuses and spell components are permitted; we place three Walls down the middle of the arena, and, after an eighteen count, the referee brings them down. After that, first one to either die or leave the arena loses.
(5) Kibin: (what's the tempuature in here?)
(1) GM: (Comfortable for humans)
(5) Kibin: Die? That's a little harsh, don't you think?
(2) Elorin: Doesn't that make it a bit hard to expand your membership?
(1) GM: Old Man: Oh, most people bring their own priest, just for the purpose. Also, it keeps those not dedicated to the craft out; although the current applicant has been waiting for someone to challenge for three years now. Besides - we like to keep the membership small. We aren't the Guild mages, after all.
(1) GM: Old Man: And no interference is permitted; the Referee also Disjoins any spells on the participants before starting the count.
(5) Kibin: Would that affect me, by any chance?
(1) GM: Old Man: Possibly... the enchantment on you is a bit... convoluted.
(5) Kibin: Convoluted?
(5) Kibin: (i guess the reincarnation change is gone now. nuked by that soul being thingie.)
(1) GM: Old Man: Well, you've kind of... grown into it.... your very soul is tangled with the enchantment, and starting to replace the strands of magic....
(5) Kibin: Um. Is that good?
(1) GM: Old man: Depends - do you like the enchantment?
(5) Kibin: Well, I can be any humanoid or animal shape I want, as long as it isn't too big...
(5) Kibin: I don't have to worry about dying of old age, or about being an icecube.
(1) GM: Old man: Becuase when the process is complete, there will be little, if any, way of distinguishing you from a natural born dragon..... just stay away from volcanoes....
(5) Kibin: I'll be sure to do that...
(5) Kibin: Anything else I should look out for?
(1) GM: Old man: Oh, just hot stuff.
(1) GM: Old man: larger things that think you might make a good snack....
(1) GM: Old man: The usual.
(5) Kibin: I kinda figured that out when I took a trip to hell.
(1) GM: Old man: Ah, yes, I seem to be getting a little forgetful in my old age....
(2) Elorin: Ah yes, the heat down there wasn't kind to you, was it?
(5) Kibin: Too hot in there... especially in the clouds...
(1) GM: Old man: You were foolish enough to fly through them? Sure, you could deal with the acid in that form..... but you're crazy.
(5) Kibin: Wasn't my choice, I got panicked...
(2) Elorin: or ignorant
(1) GM: Old man: Anyone who doesn't know the lower planes are very hostile is just stupid.
(2) Elorin: Well, yes, but the specifics about their clouds?
(1) GM: Old Man: Although if you can bring sufficent protections, it makes for some great dining ambiance....
(1) GM: Old man: Everything there's pretty hostile; including the ground, if you wait long enough.
(5) Kibin: Hmmm. Do you know if stuff that affects dragons would affect me?
(2) Elorin: What, surround the dining table with a Prsimatic Sphere?
(1) GM: Old man: Nah, then you couldn't see out - now a Telekenetic Sphere, on the other hand....
(1) GM: Old Man: And yes, in almost all ways, you are the dragon you appear to be.
(5) Kibin: Ah.
(1) GM: Old Man: Care to see your rooms? The full Testing takes a while, and you will be wanting to rest overnight. We even have dining you might enjoy.
(5) Kibin: Sure, lets go.
(1) GM: The old man calls another apprentice, you beakons you to follow.
(2) Elorin: Yes, please
(2) Elorin: We'll see how your food compares to a Heroes' Feast.
(1) GM: Following the apprentice, you walk around a tall stone tower, to a blank spot of stone, and the apprentice holds out his hands for you to grab.
** (2) Elorin grabs his hand **
** (5) Kibin reaches up kind of high, and is a little off balance, but still grabs his hand. **
(1) GM: The apprentice steps backwards, through the wall, pulling you with; when you reach it, you encounter no resistence, although it is completely dark.
(1) GM: After a moment, he drags you down and says "Carful - stairs here"
(5) Kibin: (can i still see with darkvision in the dark room?)
(1) GM: You can't see a thing
whispering to Kibin, and your blindsense tells you that you are in the middle of solid rock....
(5) Kibin: (does blindsense extend to inanimate objects? so i can at least sense the stuff around me?)
whispering to Kibin, with not the slightest gap between your hide and the rock...
(5) Kibin: What stairs? We're in solid rock.
(1) GM: The Apprentice chuckles briefly: Yes, but the tunnel is not striaght, and as it turns downwards, there are steps.
(1) GM: The apprentice then pulls downwards a bit on your hands, and continues.
(1) GM: DC 10 Reflex saves.....
(2) Elorin: Reflex save: [1d20+19] -> [2,19] = (21)
(1) GM: For you two, that means don't roll a 1.
(1) GM: Kibin?
(5) Kibin: [1d20+15] -> [13,15] = (28)
(1) GM: You find that there is, indeed, a step-like feeling under your feet as you descend; after quite a ways, you find yourselves pulled out of the walll, and into a large underground cavern.
(5) Kibin: (how dark?)
(1) GM: The apprentice lets go of your hands, and says "Don't try going through there without a guide."
(1) GM: The cavern is very well lit, daylight bright, by a flashing sphere suspended on nothing at the top of the cavern.
(5) Kibin: Um, can people scry on you here?
(1) GM: The walls are smooth, with not a single join to them, and doors line the very large circumfrance of the cavern.
(1) GM: Apprentice: Divinations attempted against those in these walls fail.
(2) Elorin: Even if he could Scry us here, I don't think that Sorcerer would be foolish enough to try attacking us inside this place
(5) Kibin: Ah, so we can sleep here in peace.
(2) Elorin: I doubt our landlords would appreciate it
(1) GM: Apprentice: Although occasionally an expiriment or an untrained pet gets loose.....
(5) Kibin: Yeah, that's very comforting.
(1) GM: Anyway, guest quarters are this way.
(5) Kibin: Do we get seperate rooms?
(1) GM: The apprentice begins walking off around the wall towards the right.
** (2) Elorin follows him **
(1) GM: Apprentice: By default, yes.
** (5) Kibin follows too. "Ooo. Do they have tempuature controls?" **
(1) GM: Apprentice: Well, yes, but we still haven't figured out how to fine-tune them properly; unless you want it boiling hot or freezing cold, you'd do better to stay with the defualt.
(5) Kibin: I'll take freezing cold then, I guess.
(2) Elorin: Considering his choice of bed last night, I think freezing cold will be just fine for him
(1) GM: After a few minutes of walking, the apprentice stops, points to two doors, and hands each of you a small amulet.
** (5) Kibin looks at the amulet. "Um, what's this?" **
(1) GM: You notice a numbe on each amulet - 542 for Elorin's and 543 for Kibin's (also 544 for Derrel's.....)
(1) GM: Apprentice: The numbers match the doors.
(1) GM: You notice numbers on the doors - 542, 543, and 544.
(5) Kibin: Ah. Will it interfere any with other magical amulets?
** (2) Elorin opens door 542 and walks in **
(1) GM: Apprentice: Don't try going through the door without carrying the matching amulet. It isn't pretty. It doesn't have to be worn, just carried.
(5) Kibin: Oh, okay. If I wear it, will it interfere?
(1) GM: Apprentice: Nah, they just need to be there. They also permit you access to the dining hall; if you'll come with me?
(2) Elorin: Lead the way
** (5) Kibin puts on the amulet. Please don't interfere... Then follows. **
** (2) Elorin puts the amulet on **
(1) GM: The apprentice leads, and after another five full minutes of walking, shows you to a door labeled "0"
(1) GM: Apprentice: This is the dining hall; there's no charge for the food, and it's reasonably tasty.
(1) GM: Apprentice: Now, don't go through any doors other than the ones I've shown you - it's a bad idea. When you wish to leave, come here, ask, and someone will show you out.
(5) Kibin: Okay, sounds good.
(2) Elorin: Thank you. Will someone come for us when it's time for Kaylin's duel?
(1) GM: The Apprentice grins: Hard to miss; it's held directly under the Prismatic Sphere that lights the area.
(2) Elorin: Ah
(1) GM: Apprentice: Don't worry too much about stray magic - multi-layered walls of force are situated just a bit outside the arena, in case someone wishes to win by throwing their opponent out, while still keeping a reasonable margin of safty for missed spells.
(5) Kibin: (i thought that stuff make permanent on yourself can't be removed by any mortal magic.)
(1) GM: From Permanency: "You cast the desired spell and then follow it with the permanency spell. You cannot cast these spells on other creatures. This application of permanency can be dispelled only by a caster of higher level than you were when you cast the spell."
(5) Kibin: (ah.)
(5) Kibin: (kaylin isn't going to be happy...)
(1) GM: So someone walking around with a caster level of 21, with a Disjunction....
(1) GM: (No, she's not....)
(5) Kibin: (she spent 1,500 XP on those.)
** (5) Kibin makes sure he's wearing the amulet, then steps into the dining hall. **
(3) Kaylin: (she's baack...)
(1) GM: The door opens without being touched, and inside, you find rows of tables, chairs, and the like; liveried people without distinguishable features walk around, cleaning up any dishes left behind and laying down plates of steaming, hot, tasty-looking food in front of anyone who sits down. A great many people in grey, white, and black (mostly grey) robes sit and eat.
** (2) Elorin decides to at least sample the food to see how good it is, even though he doesn't actually need to eat **
whispering to Elorin, It's quite tasty....
** (5) Kibin climbs up into a seat and waits to see the food that's delivered. **
(2) Elorin (whispering): compared to Heroes' Feast?
whispering to Elorin, not quite so tasty, and doesn't have the same effects.
(3) Kaylin: (oh wonderful, someone dispelled my nice spells? *sigh* oh well)
(1) GM: (Not yet.....)
(2) Elorin: (not yet, but they cast Disjunction on duelists before hand)
(3) Kaylin: (ah.)
** (2) Elorin samples a bit of everything **
(1) GM: Another apprentice leads Kaylin into the dining hall, and hands her an amulet with the number "545" on it, and leaves.
whispering to Elorin, it's all quite tasty; almost as tasty as the Hero's Feast Elorin has prepared in the past.
(2) Elorin: Hmm, it's quite good, but doesn't quite compare to what I've been eating recently
** (3) Kaylin eats something **
(1) GM: Derrel sits down and eats heartily.
(3) Kaylin: (and I'm starved IRL too.. brb, grabbing a loaf of bread)
whispering to Kaylin, it's all quite tasty; almost as tasty as the Hero's Feast Elorin has prepared in the past.
(3) Kaylin (whispering): Could you give me the highlights of what passed while I was gone?
(5) Kibin: (so, what exactly is the food?)
whispering to Kaylin, you went off to take some book tests; everyone was lead down through a wall into a very large underground chamber, the basic details of the duel were covered (disjucntion, three rounds to prep, then see your opponent - who has also had three rounds to prepare, and cast away; first person to die or be expelled from the arena loses; also, don't pass through any doors other than the one matching the number on your amulet or the mess hall; come to the mess hall and ask when you wish to be shown out)
whispering to Kibin, mess hall labeled with a 0
(1) GM: The food is a variety of boneless meats, flavored differently, some vegetables, and a milk that vaguely reminds you of when you were extremely young.....
(5) Kibin: (i'm already at the mess hall, and i sat down. wondering what the FOOD they gave me is.)
(1) GM: Some decent meads and ales are available as well.
(5) Kibin (whispering): what do you mean milk that reminds me of when i was young? :P)
whispering to Kibin, You can't quite pin down the reason.
** (5) Kibin uses a fork to eat the food. Claws make excellent knifes... **
(1) GM: The old man from earlier walks through the door of the mess hall, and addresses Kaylin.
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, I see you've finished the second tier tests; eat up, the results will be ready tomorrow, and, if you pass, the last test, the duel, can commence.
(3) Kaylin: Excellent. Thank you.
(1) GM: Old Man: Make sure to prepare well.
** (5) Kibin asks the old man, curious, "What type of milk is this?" **
(3) Kaylin: May I have any knowledge of what my opponent is like?
(1) GM: The Old Man just grins, and says "Just like Momma used to make."
(3) Kaylin: (oh god.0
** (5) Kibin blinks. "Huh?" **
(3) Kaylin: (don't ask.)
(1) GM: Old Man: Polymorphed cows. Don't worry about it too much.
(1) GM: Old Man: Other than that she's an elf? Not really.
(3) Kaylin: Hmmph. Thank you for your time then.
** (5) Kibin eats the rest of his meal. **
(3) Kaylin: (by the way, they wouldn't happen to all be wearing Robes of Archmagi, would they?)
(2) Elorin: So, want to know about the duel?
(1) GM: Old Man: Would you prefer I let her know exactly what was in your spellbook? Wouldn't be fair.
(2) Elorin: They explained it to us while you were gone
(3) Kaylin: Of course not. Very understandable policy.
(3) Kaylin: {Please do}
(1) GM: (Yep.... mostly grays, but a couple of whites and blacks.....)
(3) Kaylin: (yeeesh, evils.)
(5) Kibin: (blacks? :P)
(1) GM: (Robes)
(2) Elorin: Equipment beyond spell components and foci is not allowed.
(2) Elorin: Both combatants are subjected to Mage's Disjunctions before the duel starts
(1) GM: Old man: Well, I'm heading out.....
(1) GM: The old man walks off.
** (5) Kibin wonders what the fork would taste like... **
(1) GM: A few minutes later, you see Jason enter the room, holding an amulet with "541" on it.....
(2) Elorin: You will start separated from your opponent by three walls, I'm not sure of exactly what nature (prismatic? force?).
(2) Elorin: The walls will be dropped after 18 seconds (3 rounds)
(1) GM: (wasn't specified....)
(2) Elorin: From that point on, anything goes
(2) Elorin: The duel ends when a participant dies or leaves the arena
(3) Kaylin: (I'm gonna die...)
(3) Kaylin: How far apart will we be?
(5) Kibin (whispering): i wonder if Kaylin could summon us.
(1) GM: Jason: Oh, don't worry so much; it's not all bad. Besides, you get all night to choose what to have ready, and three rounds to choose what to put up.
(5) Kibin: (there are no rounds in here...)
whispering to Kibin, No, you're CR 15.....
(5) Kibin: (a round is 6 seconds.)
(5) Kibin: (so they would get about 20 seconds.)
(3) Kaylin: (hmm, I'm suddenly glad I took Quicken Spell..)
(1) GM: Hmm... Oops. Oh well; three choices, then....
(1) GM: (oh, and you got your spellbook back..... it was waiting for you, along with the bag, on the other side of the Prismatic Door)
(3) Kaylin: (... WHO TOOK IT?!)
(3) Kaylin: (They're going to DIE)
(3) Kaylin: (*ahem*)
(2) Elorin: I'd say pick two spells to make you harder to hit and resist spells better, more if you can cast exceptionally quickly, and be ready to hit your opponent the instant the walls are down
(5) Kibin: (it would be hilarious if kaylin got the great warping in a scroll format.)
(5) Kibin: (there's not even a save. :)
(3) Kaylin: (lol)
(1) GM: (It would still take 48 hours to cast.....)
(5) Kibin: (not really. scrolls are instant, time is already put into it i thought.)
(3) Kaylin: (would displacement help against ranged touch attack spells?)
whispering to Kaylin, yep.
(2) Elorin: (yes)
(1) GM: Spell Completion - However, the casting time of a spell is the time required to activate the same power in an item, regardless of the type of magic item, unless the item description specifically states otherwise.
(2) Elorin: (Feeblemind would stand a good chance of ending it instantly without killing the opponent)
** (5) Kibin decides to see if he can eat the fork. Just to see how varied a dragon's diet can be. **
whispering to Kibin, and the silver fork seems like a terrible thing to eat....
(5) Kibin (whispering): aw. other dragons can eat metal.
whispering to Kibin, That's not the why.....
(5) Kibin (whispering): oh.
(5) Kibin (whispering): um, what IS the why?
(1) GM: Jason: Well, I suppose we all need to get a good night's rest for the duel in the morning.
** (5) Kibin decides against it. **
whispering to Kibin, Dragon eating one of the precious metals?
whispering to Kibin, destroying it's value?
(5) Kibin (whispering): ah.
(5) Kibin (whispering): i see.
(3) Kaylin: So, any idea how far apart we'll be?
(2) Elorin: (I don't remember that detail, if it was stated)
** (5) Kibin walks back to his room. **
(1) GM: Jason: Well, I believe he did mention that the arena is in the center of the cavern; we could go have a look.
(3) Kaylin: Good idea...
** (3) Kaylin is getting nervous **
** (5) Kibin walks in, and sees what he can do about the tempuature... **
(3) Kaylin: (hooray for Quicken Spell.. I have 6 spells lined up for pre-duel casting)
(1) GM: One of the liveried servants with no discernable features overhears, and leads the way.....
(2) Elorin: (make it 5 so you can have a readied action for when the walls come down)
(1) GM: Initiative isn't rolled until the wall goes down - no readied actions.
(3) Kaylin: (I'm not really sure what that means)
(1) GM: Inside Kibin's room, he finds a translucent liveried servant with no discernable features, who nods, and turns a dial when Kibin mentions that he wants the temperature down.
(1) GM: And frost starts to line everything.....
(1) GM: But only in Kibin's room.
(2) Elorin: (when preparing spells, keep in mind that you won't have your headband of intellect)
(2) Elorin: (so only 20 intelligence for bonus spells and save DC's)
(5) Kibin: (she can use the headband of intellect ot prepare spells.)
(3) Kaylin: (Won't I have that when preparing?)
(5) Kibin: (just not to cast.
(2) Elorin: (but you won't have it during the duel)
(3) Kaylin: (so spells per day like I don't have it? wonderful...)
(1) GM: The liveried servant leads everyone to a trail down ot the arena - which is a large thing; black sand and dust make for a floor that covers a 200 foot diameter circle.
** (5) Kibin walks back out. "Well, the tempuature controls work." Kibin has a bit of frost on his scales. **
(1) GM: There's 20 feet from the black circle, and several rows of bleachers; a line runs down the center of the circle, and there is a raised platform at both ends of the line.
(8) Kibin (enter): 15:36
(7) Kaylin (enter): 15:36
(1) GM: Hmm... anyone still online? Had a brief drop-off...
(8) Kibin: (last thing i saw, black sand and dust make for a floor.)
(9) Elorin (enter): 15:36
(7) Kaylin: (yep, last I saw.)
(2) Elorin (exit): 15:37
(3) Kaylin (exit): 15:37
(5) Kibin (exit): 15:37
(1) GM: The liveried servant leads everyone to a trail down ot the arena - which is a large thing; black sand and dust make for a floor that covers a 200 foot diameter circle.
(1) GM: There's 20 feet from the black circle, and several rows of bleachers; a line runs down the center of the circle, and there is a raised platform at both ends of the line.
(1) GM: There are smaller circles at opposite ends of the arena, making a line perpendicular to the one from the two plateforms.
** (8) Kibin asks, "Can the duelist forfeit if he or she wishes not to die?" **
(7) Kaylin: I feel like I'm entertainment.
(7) Kaylin: Forfeit!?
(9) Elorin: Yes, by stepping out of the circle
(1) GM: The liveried servant says nothing.
** (8) Kibin smiles at Kaylin. "But you're our entertainment!" **
(7) Kaylin: Shall I dance for you then?
(7) Kaylin: Not that I can...
(9) Elorin: (hmm, Wall of Force - spells cannot pass through the wall)
(8) Kibin: If you go into my room, you'd probally dance.
(9) Elorin: (might be good for protection)
(9) Elorin: (does it block targeted spells, or just rays?)
(1) GM: Jason: Ready to turn in for the night?
(9) Elorin: (and other AoE's)
** (8) Kibin smiles. "Might be interesting sleeping in a room as cold as I'm sleeping in." **
(7) Kaylin: (looks like any spell)
(1) GM: Blocks line of effect - rays, target, fireballs... most everything.
(1) GM: But not line of sight; a Gaze attack could function.....
(8) Kibin: (heh.)
(9) Elorin: (and it's completely see-through, so your opponent would probably be caught unawares and waste a spell)
(1) GM: Jason walks over to the bleachers to reserve himself a good spot for the fight the next day....
(9) Elorin: Could you save seats for the rest of us?
(1) GM: Jason: Oh, I suppose.....
** (8) Kibin wishes Kaylin made him a little larger... **
(1) GM: (He can Hover - doesn't need a seat....)
(8) Kibin: (oh yeah.)
** (8) Kibin walks over to his nice, cold room, and sleeps on the bed. **
(1) GM: Which is very, very soft.
(9) Elorin: (and you're small enough it won't create a big disturbance from the wind)
** (8) Kibin thinks, "What more could a silver dragon want?" **
(9) Elorin: (a big pile of treasure? :P)
whispering to Kibin, ... and somewhere from the recesses of his form, he hears a reply ..... "gold"
(7) Kaylin: (so just to be absolutely clear, once I remove the Headband, my spells per day decrease?)
(8) Kibin (whispering): ...and Kibin wonders, "When'd I get a little voice in the back of my head?"
(1) GM: Prepared spells don't go away, although you couldn't prepare anything more in extra spots left blank.
whispering to Kibin, and gets no answer....
(7) Kaylin: (Ah. But I couldn't cast all of those?)
(1) GM: Yep.
(7) Kaylin: (or I can?)
(1) GM: Can cast away. Don't want to cripple your character too badly.
(7) Kaylin: (yay! I'd hug you except I don't think you lean that way)
(7) Kaylin: (er.)
(7) Kaylin: (hmm, very poorly phrased)
** (9) Elorin sinks into his bed **
(1) GM: Anything a else to deal with before the morn?
(9) Elorin: Well. I could get used to this :)
whispering to Elorin, the bed is almost decadently soft.
(7) Kaylin: (nope, Just gotta plan my spells.)
(1) GM: So... the next morning?
(1) GM: In this timeless place?
(9) Elorin: Next morning...
(9) Elorin: I get something to eat just because it's free and tasty, then go looking for Jason in the arena
(1) GM: The next morning, you manage to hear quite the bustle when you open the doors to your rooms; before, openeing the doors, it's silent as a tomb.
(1) GM: You find Jason. Sitting with nobody withing 10 feet of him. Those closest look marginally frightened.
(1) GM: Jason: Seems nobody wanted to crowd me....
(7) Kaylin: (is there room service?)
(9) Elorin: haha
(9) Elorin: So not everyone here is used to such things, hmm?
whispering to Kaylin, A servant, quite remeniscent of those generated by a Mage's Magnificent Mansion, stands ready in your room, at your beck and call.
(7) Kaylin: (y'know, that happened to me once. 5-foot circle, nobdoy in the auditorium would sit near me.)
(1) GM: (Yes, but Jason is scentless)
(7) Kaylin: What do we have to wear in the duel? I don't have much besides a Robe.
(7) Kaylin: (ouch. owned)
(7) Kaylin: (I actually don't think that was the problem, I checked 'cause I was suspicious.. oh well)
(1) GM: The liveried figure hands you a simple red silk robe.
** (8) Kibin wonders what a night of sleeping in the cold did to him. **
(1) GM: The frost shakes off of Kibin easily enough.
** (8) Kibin flies over to the arena, and checks up on Jason. **
(1) GM: After Kaylin finishes preparing her spells, the liveried servant in her room says "it is time"
(7) Kaylin: Lead on.
(1) GM: Jason seems to be doing quite well, and has seats reserved for the entire party; Derrel got there before you.
(7) Kaylin: (bah, I haven't finished. Oh well...)
(8) Kibin: I guess I don't need a seat, do I?
** (8) Kibin just hovers about 100 feet above the arena. **
(1) GM: The liveried servant leads Kaylin down to the areana...... where she is made to stand and wait in one of the smaller circles at either end of the arena.
(1) GM: A lady elf in an identical red silk robe is led into the other circle at the far end.
(1) GM: A man on the platform speaks.
(1) GM: He can be heard quite easily by everyone in the room....
(1) GM: Refferee: Since time immemorial, magic has ruled. Today, we have two who wish to master the deeper secrets of the hallowed Craft.
(1) GM: Refferee: Are you ready?
(1) GM: The lady elf at the far end bows towards the refferee, and the Refferee casts a spell at her.....
** (8) Kibin wonders if he's safe up here. **
** (7) Kaylin curtsies **
whispering to Kaylin, Disjunction....
(1) GM: And the Refferee then casts the same spell at Kaylin.
(1) GM: A moment later, two walls of force, with a Prismatic wall between, divide the arena.
(1) GM: Ref: Begin.
(7) Kaylin: (I'm just going to type the spells, 'cause I don't feel like fixing up the openRPG thing)
(8) Kibin: (hehe.)
** (7) Kaylin casts Quickened Displacement (level 7) **
** (7) Kaylin casts Fox's Cunning **
whispering to GM, SPell Turning, [1d4+6] -> [3,6] = (9)
(7) Kaylin: (next round?)
whispering to GM, Protection from Energy, Fire, 120 points
whispering to GM, Protection from Energy, lightning, 120 points
(1) GM: Yep.
** (7) Kaylin casts Quickened Cat's Grace (level 6) **
(8) Kibin: (smart. using quickened spells like that. double the spells to get ready.)
** (7) Kaylin casts Haste (level 3) **
(1) GM: Refferee: 12.....
** (7) Kaylin casts Quickeend Resistance (level 4) **
** (7) Kaylin casts See Invisibility (level 2) **
(8) Kibin: (heh. smart too.)
** (8) Kibin silently cheers for Kaylin. **
(7) Kaylin: (thanks :)
(1) GM: The refferee casts the same spell he has cast twice already today, and the three walls drop... roll for initiative.
(7) Kaylin: Initiative: [1d20 + 4] -> [15,4] = (19)
(1) GM: [1d20+3] -> [16,3] = (19)
(1) GM: Tie! [1d20+3] -> [17,3] = (20)
(9) Elorin: (lol)
(8) Kibin: (LOL. :P)
(7) Kaylin: [1d20 +4] -> [20,4] = (24)
(7) Kaylin: (hahah!)
(8) Kibin: (hehe.)
(9) Elorin: (nice :) )
(1) GM: Kaylin - your turn.
(8) Kibin: (it would be so funny if the duel was ended in one round by a disintergrate.)
** (7) Kaylin casts Quickened Enervate **
(7) Kaylin: (level 8)
(8) Kibin: (man. kaylin can kick butt if she's prepared.)
(9) Elorin: (good one, I hadn't thought of that)
(7) Kaylin: SR: [1d20 + 19] -> [17,19] = (36)
(7) Kaylin: [1d4] -> [4] = (4)
(7) Kaylin: (haha.)
(8) Kibin: (wow.)
(9) Elorin: (touch attack)
(8) Kibin: (RANGED touch attack.)
(7) Kaylin: Ranged Touch Attack Roll: [1d20+8] -> [11,8] = (19)===> DMG: [0+0] -> 0
(8) Kibin: (this should be funny. hehe.)
(1) GM: To Kaylin's Horror, the a phantasmal force grabs the incoming ray, and swings it back in Kaylin's Direction....
(7) Kaylin: (I don't even wanna ask..)
(1) GM: Spell Turning is nasty, isn't it?
(8) Kibin: (what the crud.)
(9) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [19,18] = (37)
(7) Kaylin: (indeed.)
(1) GM: What's your Touch AC?
(7) Kaylin: (not that high?)
(7) Kaylin: (17.)
(1) GM: The black ray hits you.....
(8) Kibin: (but there's a chance for it to miss!)
(7) Kaylin: Nyerk. Bitch.
(7) Kaylin: {You bitch, I should have thought of that!}
(7) Kaylin: (there is?)
(8) Kibin: (50% chance of the beam missing!)
(8) Kibin: (yes. displacement, remember?)
(9) Elorin: (I'm not sure rays count for the "target" criterion)
(7) Kaylin: (ah, right.)
(1) GM: (Meh; it works....)
(9) Elorin: (brb)
(1) GM: 50 or less misses: [1d100] -> [50] = (50)
(7) Kaylin: (whooo)
(8) Kibin: (sorry. this is funny on just so many levels.)
(8) Kibin: (lol...)
(1) GM: Casting something non-quickened?
(7) Kaylin: (hmm..)
(8) Kibin: (something that can't be turned, perhaps?)
** (7) Kaylin casts Wall of Force (level 5) **
(8) Kibin: (wow. when did she get that.
(7) Kaylin: (let's get some defense...)
(1) GM: Putting it where?
(1) GM: And what size do you get?
(7) Kaylin: (about 30 feet in front of me, 30 feet high, 50 feet wide)
(1) GM: And your opponent casts a spell of her own.... and a ball of ice shatters on the wall in the way.
(7) Kaylin: (let's see what this chick can do..)
(1) GM: Kaylin?
(1) GM: Your turn.
whispering to Kaylin, Freezing Sphere, incidentally.
(9) Elorin: (she's only got 1d4+2 spell levels of turning left...)
(1) GM: (I wonder what she rolled.....)
** (7) Kaylin casts Summon Monster VI (Bralani) to one side of the wall **
(7) Kaylin: (go attack.)
(8) Kibin: (lol. that is smart.)
(1) GM: That is 1 round casting time; you are occupied until your next round, at which point it appears.
(7) Kaylin: (Thank you.. i figured it'd be tough getting spells through)
(1) GM: Anything Quickened?
(7) Kaylin: (does haste have any effect?)
(8) Kibin: (one round? that can't be right.)
(7) Kaylin: (on the casting time)
(9) Elorin: (not in 3.5)
(8) Kibin: (oh.)
(1) GM: (Haste doesn't help, no.)
(7) Kaylin: (if I cast Glitterdust above her, would the particles fall on top of her?)
(1) GM: A quickened spell before is still leagle, however.
(9) Elorin: (she has to be in the initial blast radius to be blinded)
(1) GM: Free action - if you cast one.
(7) Kaylin: (ah. ok, I'm done for now then.)
(9) Elorin: (but it's not targeted, so no turning)
(7) Kaylin: (I can't get it through Wal of Force)
(7) Kaylin: (She gets to go disintegrate it :)
(7) Kaylin: (I'll just summon more monsters...)
(1) GM: The Elf, seeing as how the ice broke, casts a spell.... and an image of her appears overhead....
whispering to Kaylin, Project Image
(9) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [9,18] = (27)
whispering to Elorin, Project Image
(1) GM: Kaylin?
(7) Kaylin: (how did I guess she'd do something like that....)
(1) GM: Your good monster appears, next to the wall, 170 feet from your opponent.
(7) Kaylin: (hmm, can I hit that image with a Dispel magic yet?)
(1) GM: It's over the place where the ice hit the wall - yes.
** (7) Kaylin casts Greater Dispel Magic (level 6) **
(1) GM: Check?
(7) Kaylin: (*sigh* last level 6 spell..)
(7) Kaylin: [1d20 + 20] -> [4,20] = (24)
(7) Kaylin: (bugger.
(1) GM: Umm.... how are you getting a +20 when you have a caster level of 15? Doesn't much matter - the DC's 26.....
(7) Kaylin: (oh, sorry.)
(7) Kaylin: (+15)
(1) GM: Anything Quickened? Orders for the critter?
(7) Kaylin: Creature should go attack her as soon as possible...
(1) GM: Which is this turn; You got the 1: Sword, 2: Bow version.... [1d2] -> [1] = (1)
(1) GM: Fly 100/perfect, it can charge through the air....
(1) GM: For a single attack.
(1) GM: If you like, it's valid; roll for attack and damage.
(7) Kaylin: (hmm)
(7) Kaylin: (attack roll is 1d20 + 1?)
(7) Kaylin: (oh, base attack is right there next to base attack...)
(8) Kibin: (+11 melee.)
(1) GM: On a charge, it's 1d20+2+11 for the attack, but -2 to AC for the round.
(7) Kaylin: Attack roll: [1d20+11] -> [19,11] = (30) for [1d6+4] -> [1,4] = (5) damage
(7) Kaylin: (ooh, possible crit.)
(1) GM: Hit, 5 damage; roll to confirm.
(7) Kaylin: [1d20] -> [15] = (15)
(1) GM: AC 13 - confirmed; 10 damage.
(8) Kibin: (that should be a 26.)
(1) GM: Quickened spell?
(1) GM: That would be a "no" I guess.....
(7) Kaylin: (no)
(8) Kibin: (bah.)
(7) Kaylin: (Am I allowed to move, or do I have to stay stationary?)
(1) GM: (Stay within the larger arena - the smaller circles are just starting points....)
(7) Kaylin: (oh, in that case.....)
** (7) Kaylin runs to the side of the wall and just behind it, so that a sideways scuttle could put her in range of the enemy) **
(7) Kaylin: (don't think i've cast anything yet this round?)
(1) GM: Dispel Magic on the image.
(1) GM: Which failed.
(7) Kaylin: (ah, right.)
(1) GM: Quickened spell moment available, though.
(1) GM: Casting Quickly?
(7) Kaylin: (only if I can do it and then get behind the wall again)
(1) GM: Not after, no.
(9) Elorin: (getting behind the wall doesn't really matter)
(7) Kaylin: (nope, I'll stay behind cover...)
(9) Elorin: (she can use either herself or the image as the origin point)
(1) GM: Such as it is.... with a spellcasting image to fire at you.....
(7) Kaylin: (ah, true.)
(9) Elorin: (move and ready an action for fireball or something)
(7) Kaylin: (sounds good.)
(9) Elorin: (try to disrupt her next spell with an AoE)
(7) Kaylin: (orrr...)
(7) Kaylin: (nah, that works.)
(1) GM: Readying is a standard action - not available; used up on Greater Dispel Magic.
(9) Elorin: (oh, wait that would require the standard action you spent on Dispel, sorry)
(1) GM: So staying behind the wall for the moment?
** (7) Kaylin runs to the wall and casts quickened Slow on the elf **
(9) Elorin: (for spellcasters, slow doesn't really matter)
(9) Elorin: (all it means is they can't move and cast at the same time)
(7) Kaylin: (I intend to hit her with stuff that has reflex saves)
(8) Kibin: (who cares. :P)
(9) Elorin: (of course, this will absorb more of her turning...)
(7) Kaylin: (ooh, that too.)
(1) GM: Targeted the phantom force grabs the spell energy and flings it back at Kaylin.... save vs. your own spell....
(1) GM: Not that she's in range, what with it being 25 + 5/2 levels.... [25+15*5/2] -> 62
(7) Kaylin: Will save: [1d20+17] -> [9,17] = (26)
(1) GM: So technically, the spell fizzles, not having a valid target.
(7) Kaylin: (bah, does it get turned or not?)
(1) GM: NOt turned, no effect on anyone.
(9) Elorin: (whatever happens, 24 int should be enough to figure it out beforehand and not waste it)
(1) GM: And it's her turn....
(7) Kaylin: (hmm, she's further away than I thought.)
(1) GM: 170 feet, give or take.
(7) Kaylin: (somehow I'd thought that we were 100 apart, not 200..)
(1) GM: She inches away from the creature, mosty ignoring it, and casts a spell at Kaylin.....
(1) GM: Freezing Sphere again; Nothing in the way.... [15d6] -> [1,5,5,2,1,2,6,1,1,6,3,3,4,6,3] = (49), reflex DC 21 half.
(7) Kaylin: Reflex save: [1d20+10] -> [18,10] = (28)
(8) Kibin: (what? :P)
(7) Kaylin: (make that 26 once the changes are made)
(8) Kibin: (nothing in the way?)
** (8) Kibin hovers on down to where Jason and the others are at, or at least begins to. **
(8) Kibin: (oh wait, no, i hover down all the way. i can run :P0
(1) GM: Kaylin stepped out from behind the Wall she put up, and the opponent stepped away from the critter Kaylin summoned
(1) GM: Still a successful reflex, 24 damage dealt.
(7) Kaylin: (don't I get a 50% miss chance?)
(1) GM: Not from an area effect, no.
(9) Elorin: (it's AoE)
(7) Kaylin: (ah)
(8) Kibin: (oh.)
(1) GM: Your turn.
(8) Kibin: (comeon kaylin... there must be some way to shatter spell turning.)
(9) Elorin: (just use area effects)
(1) GM: (Or bypass it with non-targetted spells.....)
(1) GM: (Like Freezing Sphere.)
(8) Kibin: (true.)
** (7) Kaylin casts quickend Fireball (level 7) **
(1) GM: Reflex: [1d20+8] -> [9,8] = (17)
(8) Kibin: (hehe. kaylin is shooting two effects at once :D)
(1) GM: Still a 3rd level spell - DC 13 + Int Mod
(7) Kaylin: SR: [1d20 + 19] -> [17,19] = (36)
(7) Kaylin: (int mod is +7)
(9) Elorin: (which is +7 at the moment, so 20)
(1) GM: Reflex failed; roll damage.
(7) Kaylin: [10d6] -> [4,6,6,6,6,3,4,3,5,4] = (47)
(8) Kibin: (holy.)
(7) Kaylin: (nice.)
(9) Elorin: (holy crap :O)
(1) GM: And she burns and goes down.
(7) Kaylin: (that was lucky)
(9) Elorin: (that's WAAAAAAAAAY above average)
(8) Kibin: (57 damage...)
(7) Kaylin: (dead?)
(1) GM: AH, no she doesn't - almost forgot....
(9) Elorin: (and your summon still hadn't gone, and could have full attacked)
(1) GM: Put a Protection from ENergy up earlier.... two, actually....
(7) Kaylin: (it will if she isn't down....)
(1) GM: Fire was one of them....
(7) Kaylin: (oh)
(8) Kibin: (dang it.)
(7) Kaylin: (bugger)
(8) Kibin: (can't she freaking go down already.)
(1) GM: Still your turn, though, as that was Quickened, and the critter hasn't yet gone.
(9) Elorin: (well, she's down to 73 fire absorption left... :( )
(8) Kibin: (try another attack form.)
(8) Kibin: (don't you have that elemental blast thingie?)
(7) Kaylin: (actually, no...)
(1) GM: Actions? Still have standard, move, and Creature.
** (7) Kaylin casts Mind Fog (level 5) **
(8) Kibin: (smart.)
(7) Kaylin: (c'mon, c'mon...)
(1) GM: Will save... [1d20+11] -> [2,11] = (13)
(7) Kaylin: (fail..
(7) Kaylin: (sweet.)
** (8) Kibin comments to the party, quietly, "This is getting pretty interesting." **
(8) Kibin: (ouch. :P)
(7) Kaylin: (I hope nobody's up there eating popcorn.)
(8) Kibin: (i think wisdom was one of her dump stats...)
(9) Elorin: (hmm, Bralani have Charm Person... I wonder what she'd do if that worked)
(7) Kaylin: (she's going to regret that..)
(8) Kibin: (it's possible that you could damage her wisdom again somehow...)
(1) GM: Still have Move and Creature.
(7) Kaylin: (Feeblemind. Feeblemind..)
(9) Elorin: (Feeblemind is targeted)
(8) Kibin: (yeah. :P)
** (7) Kaylin runs towards the bitch, stops about 50 feet away. Creature does full attac **
(7) Kaylin: (er, not 50. 70)
(8) Kibin: (you sure that's wise?)
(1) GM: Umm.... 170 feet away, base move 30, +30 enhanced, standard action used, and so can't run.
(1) GM: Can close to 110.
(7) Kaylin: (oh. Blah, 130 feet then)
(8) Kibin: (that's kinda stupid, you know.)
(9) Elorin: (if you're planning feeblemind, you need to get as much of that Spell Turning down as possible)
(1) GM: Run critter's attack routine.
(7) Kaylin: (/me looks at prepared spels..)
(9) Elorin: (the Bralani can take out 1 level with Charm Person if you want it to)
(8) Kibin: (two attacks.)
(8) Kibin: (yeah. charm person would work.)
(8) Kibin: (but the monster would probally be charmed...)
(9) Elorin: (If Jack lets you have the Quickened Slow back because Kaylin really wouldn't be that stupid (int 24), that would take another 3)
(8) Kibin: (hey. get it to cast cure serious wounds on you! :D)
(7) Kaylin: (she still has a good chance of resisting Charm Person)
(1) GM: (Ah, so nice that Outisders are immune to Charm Person.... which only affects Humanoids.)
(9) Elorin: (it's only DC 13, the Bralani has +7 will save)
(8) Kibin: (huh.)
(9) Elorin: (that too)
(1) GM: So... critter actions?
(8) Kibin: (i like the serious wounds thingie.)
(7) Kaylin: (anyways)
(7) Kaylin: Attack Roll #1: [1d20 + 11] -> [9,11] = (20) for [1d4 +6] -> [4,6] = (10)
(7) Kaylin: Attack Roll #2: [1d20 + 6] -> [14,6] = (20) for [1d4+6] -> [2,6] = (8)
(8) Kibin: (heh.)
(7) Kaylin: (I do to, but it's a range of Touch)
(1) GM: What are you running? If the critter, you need to re-roll damage, as you reveresed the 1d6 roll with the +4 modifier....
(1) GM: But both connect.
(1) GM: I suppose I could just subtract two from each.....
(7) Kaylin: (oops. I can read, really, I can)
(7) Kaylin: [1d6+4] -> [6,4] = (10) and [1d6+4] -> [3,4] = (7)
(1) GM: 17 damage dealt.
(1) GM: And her turn.
(1) GM: She again steps away from the creture, and casts a spell at Kaylin.....
(1) GM: Make a Fort save, DC 21.
(8) Kibin: (lol.)
(7) Kaylin: (craaap)
(7) Kaylin: Fortitude save: [1d20+9] -> [18,9] = (27)
(7) Kaylin: (whew)
(9) Elorin: (this better not be save-or-die)
(7) Kaylin: (25 once everything else is in.)
(9) Elorin: (unless she succeeds :) )
(9) Elorin: (in which case the backup damage probably sucks)
(1) GM: (Why not - you've both used them before.....)
(7) Kaylin: (Finger of Death?)
(1) GM: (fortunately, just Flesh to Stone....)
(7) Kaylin: (oh.)
(9) Elorin: (completely negated :D )
(1) GM: Kaylin?
(9) Elorin: (she's still got 1d4+2 levels of turning)
(9) Elorin: (do NOT cast Feeblemind without first taking most of that out)
(8) Kibin: (cast stone to flesh. hehe.)
(7) Kaylin: (yeah...)
(8) Kibin: (7-8 level spells can't be turned now, though.)
(1) GM: (That's not precisely true.....)
(9) Elorin: (Quickened Slow + Charm Person would make it 1d4-2, if Jack lets you have the first one back from earlier)
(9) Elorin: (partially turned non-damaging spells have a chance of going either way)
(7) Kaylin: (I doubt he will and that's not really legal..)
(1) GM: (Nah - everyone forgets things in the heat - or in this case, freezing cold - of battle)
(1) GM: (Spell fizzle stands)
(1) GM: Actions?
(8) Kibin: (cone of cold? :P)
(8) Kibin: (quicked cone of cold. ooo.)
(9) Elorin: (which would take a 9th level spell slot...)
(1) GM: Actions?
(8) Kibin: (nonquickened. then. you still have a free action.)
** (7) Kaylin runs forward 15 feet and casts quickened Lightning Bolt (last level 7 spell...) **
(1) GM: And finds out, the hard way, that Electricty is in there too.....
(7) Kaylin: (YES!)
(7) Kaylin: (is it turned?)
(8) Kibin: (haha.)
(8) Kibin: (kaylin has her now.)
(9) Elorin: (no, Lightning Bolt is area effect)
(1) GM: Reflex: [1d20+8] -> [19,8] = (27)
(9) Elorin: (she just discovered that electricity is the other Protection from Energy)
(1) GM: Which, I think is a pass.....
(1) GM: Roll damage.
(1) GM: (Yep)
(8) Kibin: (hehe.)
(8) Kibin: (she's about to get owned.)
(7) Kaylin: [10d6] -> [3,6,2,6,5,1,4,3,3,3] = (36)
(9) Elorin: (except that that didn't accomplish ANYTHING)
(1) GM: 18 dealt to the Protection - no effect on the lady.
(8) Kibin: (yes it did.)
(7) Kaylin: (well, now I know that she doesn't have protection against cold..0
(9) Elorin: (unless you manage to do another 102 electricity damage, that is)
(8) Kibin: (she knows that electricity and fire will not work. :D)
(1) GM: So... at 115?
(8) Kibin: (kaylin still has a nonquickened action. just enough for a cone of cold.)
(1) GM: And that was your Quickened and move action - standard and monster remain
(7) Kaylin: Attack Roll #1: [1d20 + 11] -> [3,11] = (14) for [1d6+4] -> [2,4] = (6)
(1) GM: A hit - barely.
(7) Kaylin: Attack Roll #2: [1d20 + 6] -> [12,6] = (18) for [1d6+4] -> [5,4] = (9)
(1) GM: Rolling the second?
(1) GM: Also a hit; 15 damage dealt. She's not looking so good....
(7) Kaylin: (good)
(8) Kibin: (coooooone of cold...)
(7) Kaylin: (out of range)
(9) Elorin: (not close enough yet for that)
(1) GM: Standard action from your 115-foot range?
(8) Kibin: (oh. dang.)
(8) Kibin: (kaylin could move another 15 feet.)
(9) Elorin: (magic missile? Of course, she could have Shield up...)
(8) Kibin: (but still not close enough...)
(1) GM: Move action is discrete; she can't cast on the run.
(8) Kibin: (ACID!)
(1) GM: She stopped to cast the quickened spell.
(7) Kaylin: (magic missile. I can do that...)
(8) Kibin: (or freaking elemental blast :P)
(8) Kibin: (wait!)
(7) Kaylin: (hey, someone wouldn't loan me money back then)
(8) Kibin: (magic missile is targeted.)
(9) Elorin: (oh, right, bad idea)
(1) GM: Take your Standard action.
(9) Elorin: (got any area effect blasts left?)
(8) Kibin: (you could buff yourself.)
(9) Elorin: (that aren't fire or electricity?)
(8) Kibin: (she could use a dimension door.)
(7) Kaylin: (hmm...)
(7) Kaylin: (something tells me I need more long-range spells)
(8) Kibin: (glitterdust isn't targeted.)
(9) Elorin: (Glitterdust?)
(9) Elorin: (it's a will save)
(8) Kibin: (yup.)
(7) Kaylin: (good idea)
(8) Kibin: (she'd be blinded for the rest of the duel.)
** (7) Kaylin casts Glitterdust (level 2) **
(8) Kibin: (thus unable to target you effectivly.)
(1) GM: [1d20+1] -> [12,1] = (13)
(1) GM: Which is a failure. She's Blind.
(7) Kaylin: [1d20 + 7] -> [3,7] = (10) (bralani)
(8) Kibin: (haha! she sucks now!)
(7) Kaylin: (unless you'll allow me to target away from Bralani)
(8) Kibin: (why not? :P)
(1) GM: 50 or less and the bralani isn't hit (uncertainty on Medium targets engaged in melee) [1d100] -> [55] = (55)
(7) Kaylin: (hm, Bralani have blind-fight)
(1) GM: Bralani blinded.
(8) Kibin: (oh well.)
(1) GM: And it's her turn.....
(8) Kibin: (has to pass spell resistance.)
(9) Elorin: (which can't fail)
(1) GM: (No SR.....)
(1) GM: (Ah, for the Bralani....)
(9) Elorin: (SR 17, Kaylin has +19)
(8) Kibin: (bralani have spell resistance...)
(1) GM: Glitterdust doesn't get SR....
(8) Kibin: (17, to be exact.)
(8) Kibin: (bah.)
(7) Kaylin: (my bonus is +19 anyways)
(9) Elorin: (even if it did, Kaylin can't fail to penetrate it)
(7) Kaylin: (the only time it's not nice to have good SR penetration.)
(1) GM: Unfortunately, it's only the original that's blinded, and the image is above the Wall of Force.....
(8) Kibin: (bah.)
(7) Kaylin: (hmmph, she can still use that?)
(8) Kibin: (the image shouldn't be able to look at you. :P)
(1) GM: (Hasn't lost line of effect.....)
** (8) Kibin sighs. "I hope Kaylin wins..." **
(1) GM: And the Lady steps away from the thing that hurt her, and the image casts a spell.....
(7) Kaylin: (I'm not particularly confident about that...)
(8) Kibin: (yes. can still cast, but she can't SEE! :P)
(8) Kibin: (besides. the image is far far away.)
(1) GM: (Image has a separate set of senses...)
(8) Kibin: (bah.)
(7) Kaylin: (/me waits to get screwed over by something)
(1) GM: And the range is only about 115 feet from image to Kaylin, following a square measurement, rather than direct.
(1) GM: The image casts another FLesh to Stone, hoping to end this quickly....
(1) GM: Make your fort Save.
(7) Kaylin: (goddangit)
(8) Kibin: (please fail please fail...)
(7) Kaylin: (Kibin!)
(7) Kaylin: Fortitude save: [1d20+9] -> [3,9] = (12)
(7) Kaylin: (wonderful.)
(8) Kibin: (i mean pleace succeed. :P)
(7) Kaylin: (/me takes Kibin outside and beats the crap outta him :D)
(1) GM: DC 21, and the battle is over.
(1) GM: Ref: And it is decided.
(8) Kibin: At least she can still recover...
(7) Kaylin: (bah.)
(1) GM: The refferee blasts the summon out of existence.
(8) Kibin: (wait! she can still win! the creature!)
(7) Kaylin: (not anymore..)
(7) Kaylin: (that would have been amusing though)
(8) Kibin: (technically the creature is still in the battle. and kaylin isn't dead.)
(8) Kibin: (bah.)
(1) GM: (She's not exactly alive, either - a mere technicallity; she lost first)
** (8) Kibin looks over to Elorin. **
** (8) Kibin is still hovering about 10 feet above the seats. Yay for hover. **
(1) GM: Jason: Well. Happens.
(9) Elorin: Well, that's unfortunate.
(9) Elorin: At least it's fairly easily reversible
(1) GM: Jason: You can break that, right?
(9) Elorin: Of course
** (7) Kaylin statues at Kibin **
** (9) Elorin walks down to Kaylin and spends a minute casting **
(1) GM: After a few rounds of rubbing at her eyes, the lady bows, and leaves the arena.
(9) Elorin: Elorin casts Break Enchantment ( level 5, "Frees subjects from enchantments, alterations, curses, and petrification" )
(9) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 5 Spell ( level 5, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(9) Elorin: [1d20+15] -> [16,15] = (31)
** (8) Kibin comments to Jason, "Just hovering in midair is kind of cool, you know." **
(1) GM: Caster level 15, DC 26 - pass on the first go.
(7) Kaylin: {Well, that was interesting.}
** (8) Kibin flies over to Kaylin, slowing down as he nears her and landing on the ground. "So how's life as a statue, even if it was for a minute or so?" **
(1) GM: The old man walks up: Good show! Good show! Pity you didn't let us keep her as a warning for others.....
(7) Kaylin: (/me kicks the old bastard)
(9) Elorin: You did well, but I think you may need a little more practice at this sort of thing
** (8) Kibin glares at the old man. "We would like to keep her, you know. She is still a good spellcaster." **
(7) Kaylin: (/me casts Feeblemind on the old man... oh wait! He already is feebleminded...)
(1) GM: Old Man: Obviously; she did very well against her opponent.
** (7) Kaylin doesn't comment **
(9) Elorin: Is there any possibility of a second chance for her?
(7) Kaylin: Later.
(1) GM: Old Man: No, none at all; she passed, even though she didn't win.
** (7) Kaylin scampers off after the other elf **
(9) Elorin: Oh
(9) Elorin: Well, in that case, congratulations Kaylin
** (8) Kibin has a sigh of relief. "Well, it is nice that noone died." **
** (7) Kaylin waves, jumps in happiness, and continues trying to find the other elf **
(1) GM: Old Man: A little dissapointing... but acceptable. That's what Priests are for, after all.
(1) GM: Kaylin does indeed manage to find the other lady elf.
(1) GM: Lady: No hard feelings?
(1) GM: Lady Elf: Oops....
(7) Kaylin: nah, it's fun as a statue. That annoying dragon I travel with can't even bite me.
(8) Kibin: (i could eat you, you know. you are edible, at least to me.)
(1) GM: Lady Elf: I suppose I should introduce myself... name's Felolia.
(7) Kaylin: (shush)
** (8) Kibin asks the old man, "So she can become an archmage now?" **
(7) Kaylin: Kaylin.
(1) GM: Lady Elf: Although you did do a number on me.... I really need to get to the healers....
(1) GM: Old man: Both of them, yes.
(7) Kaylin: Where did you train? You have an impressive set of spells, the use of Project Image was a bit suprising.
(7) Kaylin: Mind if I accompany you/
(1) GM: Felolia: Train? Who trains?
(7) Kaylin: (is she a sorceress?)
(1) GM: Felolia: Can't stand books....
(7) Kaylin: Riiiiight....
(1) GM: Felolia: Much too dry and boring.
(7) Kaylin: Sure you're feeling all right?
** (8) Kibin nods. "Um, mind telling me anything else I should know about being a dragon? It doesn't exactly come with a manual. So far I know that I can fly, immune to cold and acid, vulnerable to fire, and can travel a lot further without getting tired. **
(1) GM: Felolia: Well, let's see.... I was hit quite a few times by a monster with a sword, which I had to ignore.... beaten within an inch of my life... and I still haven't gotten to the infirmiry... say... do you think I might borrow your priest for a time? He looked cute....
(7) Kaylin: He is, isn't he? Help yourself.
(9) Elorin: Certainly, my lady.
** (9) Elorin bows **
(7) Kaylin: (you're with us?)
(1) GM: The Old Man frins evilly: Nah, that's up for you to learn as you grow into it.
(1) GM: Felolia: Wonderful... I don't suppose you have enough heal-juice left to deal with these cuts?
(7) Kaylin: (these guys practice the "hard knocks" method of teaching, don't they..)
(9) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Critical Wounds ( level 4, "Cures 4d8 damage +1/level (max +20)" )
(9) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(9) Elorin: [4d8+16] -> [5,7,1,1,16] = (30)
(8) Kibin: Meh. I'd like it better if you told me...
(1) GM: Most the wounds close, but there is still a nasty gash on her arm.....
(9) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Serious Wounds ( level 3, "Cures 3d8 damage +1/level (max +15)" )
(9) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 3 Spell ( level 3, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(9) Elorin: [3d8+15] -> [4,3,4,15] = (26)
(1) GM: (13 damage remaineing)
(1) GM: And now 0.
(9) Elorin: (could have done with a Moderate. Oh well.)
(1) GM: Felolia: Ah... thank you. Well, if you find yourself in need of my services, give me a ring sometime.
(7) Kaylin: (... "services"?)
(1) GM: (as an Archmage Spellcaster, of course.....)
(7) Kaylin: (we're talking about casting her,e right?)
(1) GM: The old man approaches Kaylin.
(1) GM: Old Man: So... are you ready to enter training?
(7) Kaylin: Thanks for the offer.
** (8) Kibin follows, and meets back up with Kaylin. Wonder how the other elf will react to the silver dragon... **
(7) Kaylin: As soon as possible
(7) Kaylin: Although, I'd appreciate a bit of healing from Elorin....
(9) Elorin: (how much?)
(7) Kaylin: (24, I think it was)
(9) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Serious Wounds ( level 3, "Cures 3d8 damage +1/level (max +15)" )
(9) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 3 Spell ( level 3, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(9) Elorin: [3d8+15] -> [5,1,4,15] = (25)
(7) Kaylin: Thank you.
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, wonderful; now that you are all healed up, this way... but I'm afraid your friends aren't allowed to follow for this; they don't qualify.
(9) Elorin: You're welcome
(1) GM: Old Man: Also...
(1) GM: The old man hands Kaylin a small, silver amulet.
(7) Kaylin: Of course not. Mind if I change into my normal outfit?
(1) GM: Old Man: This shoulld get you through all the doors except those leading to private rooms. Your guest room for last night has been permanently assigned to you.
(9) Elorin: (brb)
(7) Kaylin: Wonderful. Thank you
(1) GM: Old Man: And sure, go ahead and change; keep the silk; it looks good on you.
(1) GM: ... says the old man with a lecherous grinn...
(8) Kibin: Hmmmm, think you could help us take down a sorcerer that's been trying to rule the world or something?
(7) Kaylin: (...yay. more old guys...)
(1) GM: Old Man: Bah! The world will come and go. We're fine here.
(8) Kibin: Ah. Thought as much.
(7) Kaylin: It'll take a lot more than the Sorceror to stop these people.
(8) Kibin: Yeah, but if they help us, it probally wouldn't take long...
(7) Kaylin: Where's the fun in that?
(1) GM: Hmm..... is Derrel going to make a second showing, I wonder.....
(1) GM: Old Man: Well, the guild recources are not available for your use, including the crafting portal, free of charge, although you will be expected to return annually to help maintain the place.
(8) Kibin: For one thing, it would save me from being worried that a fire-breathing demon would pop up and turn me into cinders. Silver dragons and fire don't exactly mix...
(7) Kaylin: (are or are not available?)
(9) Elorin: (back)
(1) GM: (Sorry, are..... stupid keyboard...)
(1) GM: Old Man: Oh... you seem to have the high points down... besides - it's much more funny to watch you deal with the unknowns.
(7) Kaylin: He's got a point there.
(8) Kibin: So, are you going to scry on me daily now, or something?
(7) Kaylin: I went to a lot of trouble to change you, I want some entertainment out of it. *winks at Kibin*
(1) GM: The old man grins: Possibly. Could be amusing.....
** (8) Kibin briefly considers paralyzing Kaylin. **
** (8) Kibin wonders if the old man has a permanent detect thoughts. **
(1) GM: Old Man: Of course.
(9) Elorin: "Of course" what?
(8) Kibin: Um.
(1) GM: The Old Man just grins.
** (7) Kaylin wonders... Detect Thoughts? **
(8) Kibin: Okay... how long does Kaylin need to stay here for her training?
(1) GM: Old Man: Something like that. Well, the standard is a year... but we do have a correspondence course.
(8) Kibin: How long does that take?
(1) GM: Old Man: You have the look of someone who is chasing someone else.
(7) Kaylin: And you lot disjoined my permanent spells.
(9) Elorin: We don't really have a year available at the moment
(8) Kibin: Yeah, there's this sorcerer that is kind of miffed for me at dying and no longer being a kobold...
(1) GM: Old Man: Depends on the person. The lady who beat you down will likely take the correspondence course anyway; she learns fast, that one. Some people take almost no time at all....
(9) Elorin: And then there's his ambition to rule the world, or something like that...
(7) Kaylin: (gimme a Headband of Intellect. ROAR)
(1) GM: Old Man: Rule the world? Why? Rule thyself.....
(9) Elorin: (you already have one of those...)
(7) Kaylin: (yeah. But still...)
(1) GM: (translation - you can begin taking levels in the PrC as soon as you have the XP to spare.....)
(1) GM: (as long as you keep the book with.....)
(8) Kibin: He needs me for a racial memory, or something.
(7) Kaylin: So what is involved in this correspondence course?
(8) Kibin: Hmmmm. Wonder if I have any dragon racial memories now.
(7) Kaylin: And how did I do on the exams yesterday?
(1) GM: Old Man: Reading, mostly. The full instructions are in the book we'll hand you for the course; some spellcasting, some daily cantrips..... You did quite well on your exams.
(1) GM: Old Man: You shouldn't have too much trouble before they set in.
(8) Kibin: The racial memories?
(1) GM: The old man grins at your mysteriously: That's for me to know and you to wonder about.
(8) Kibin: Why do you keep doing that...
(7) Kaylin: Be nice to the poor rogue.
(7) Kaylin: Intelligence isn't a strong point of theirs.
** (8) Kibin glares at Kaylin. **
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, but it's fun.
(1) GM: Old Man: Well, I suppose if you are persuing the correspondence course.....
(1) GM: The old man pulls a large book out of a pocket much to small to possibly hold it, and hands it over to Kaylin.
(8) Kibin: I use my intelligence, unlike most melee fighters...
(7) Kaylin: Well, this correspondence course sounds good. Better than spending a year here, much as I'd like it, I think these poor muscle-bound types might objects.
(7) Kaylin: Thank you...
** (7) Kaylin rifles through it, breathing in the scent of a book **
(7) Kaylin: mmmm
whispering to Kaylin, it's a very old book, and seems to have a magic about it, as the text twists and bends before your eyes... always morphing back to the first page, as you haven't read it yet.....
(1) GM: Old Man: Just keep it away from anyone trying to break it, all right?
(7) Kaylin: Clever method of ensuring the correct reading order.
(7) Kaylin: By the way..
(7) Kaylin: who stole my spellbook and bag yesterday?
(8) Kibin: Wonder if a paralyzing blast of cold would break it...
(7) Kaylin: Out of my clothes?
(1) GM: Old Man: Well, you weren't interested in following the flashing lights... like your friends suggested... so we Called someone in to help. She's gone now, so you can't take revenge.
(7) Kaylin: It seemed wiser to wait until we were prepared for what might have lain ahead.
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, but that wouldn't be any fun to watch.....
(8) Kibin: We were sleeping. We did finish fighting a giant and windwalking for 20 hours or so on end...
(9) Elorin: It was the middle of the night after a long day of travelling. Why would we want to seek out more trouble before resting? Besides, we figured showing up in the middle of the night wouldn't be very polite.
(1) GM: Old Man: Nobody cares much about the time around here - except for those in the rooms, all lighting is permanent.
(7) Kaylin: Sounds like someplace I'd really enjoy staying. Are we sure we can't spare a little time?
(8) Kibin: Dragons still sleep, you know.
(1) GM: Jason: Well, I suppose I'm not in much of a rush; and he did mention something about a crafting portal.....
(7) Kaylin: Would you happen to have someplace where I could pick up scrolls?
(1) GM: Old Man: Of course! We even have spellbooks which, for a fee, you can copy from directly.
(8) Kibin: Meh, I could use a rest from being on the brink of death all the time. And dragons don't really have to worry about the passage of time either.
(7) Kaylin: Excellent.
(7) Kaylin: What sort of fee applies?
(9) Elorin: I suppose I could spend a day or two more here. But we really should get back to tracking down the Sorcerer before long.
(7) Kaylin: See, a day or two of resting would not hurt us in the least bit.
(7) Kaylin: We could partake of some of their rather excellent food, get some sleep, perhaps relax a little...
(7) Kaylin: or is relaxing allowed for priests?
(1) GM: Old Man: Oh, not as much as you might be worried about; it's a mere 50 gp per class of the spell; but you only get to hang onto the book just long enough to copy that spell. Handled at a booth inside the crafting portal. Looking for something specific?
(7) Kaylin: Not really... for now I just feel like browsing.
** (8) Kibin says, "Take all the time you want. After all, it's not like I'll grow old and die, is it?" **
(7) Kaylin: *cough*
(1) GM: The old man pulls another, much smaller, book out of his pocket, and hands it to you.
(9) Elorin: If you're really like a dragon, growing old will just make you tougher
(1) GM: Old Man: The master index.
(1) GM: (Spells in the SRD listed.....)
(9) Elorin: (which consists of every Sor/Wiz spell in the SRD, I suppose?)
** (7) Kaylin grins **
(9) Elorin: (Spell Turning would have been extremely useful in the duel, but we haven't been facing many monsters that it would help against...)
(7) Kaylin: (yeah..)
(7) Kaylin: (my spell list isn't that great against a caster..)
(1) GM: Old Man: We have a full stock of scrolsl and materials, as well, if you care to purchase some and help support the facility.
(7) Kaylin: A few scrolls might be useful.
(9) Elorin: Hmm, I don't suppose we could split that giant diamond into a bunch of smaller ones...
(1) GM: Old Man: Giant diamond? I've been looking for a giant diamond.....
(1) GM: Old Man: Been looking to craft a particular spell....
(8) Kibin: Yeah, we have a giant diamond. Kaylin used it to make me who I am now...
(8) Kibin: Well, mostly.
(7) Kaylin: Hmm, spellcrafting..
(7) Kaylin: what were you planning to craft?
(1) GM: Old Man: Oh, just a little something to wipe away the years... maybe to retire on a nice pile of gold...... If you've got one big enough, I might even just purchase it from you.
(1) GM: Old Man: Or possibly, if it's not gold you're after, exchange it for some smaller diamonds....
(8) Kibin: Can you at least tell me how long before I'm nearly indistinguishable from a natural-born dragon?
(7) Kaylin: Do you suppose the spell we used to turn the kobold into a dragon might help with the age problem?
(8) Kibin: Probally...
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, somone else had a similar idea.... well, I must admit, I got the idea from your little friend, there, and looked into how it might work....
(8) Kibin: Hmmm.
(1) GM: Old Man: And, well, the time is mostly up to you.....
(1) GM: Old Man: After a fasion.....
(7) Kaylin: Hmm...
(1) GM: Old Man: It would save some time not having to duplicate the work.... up to letting me copy from your spellbook?
(7) Kaylin: Perhaps in exchange?
(1) GM: Old Man: I can cover the standard fees... double, as it's not in the library... or we could look into an exchange; after anything in particular?
(1) GM: Ping?
(1) GM: Connection's working.... at the moment.....
(8) Kibin: (i seeeee you.)
(7) Kaylin: Perhaps in exchange for something from the master index?
(1) GM: Ah, spell for spell? Fair enough. What are you after?
(8) Kibin: Um, what's your name?
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, let me guess - you were really impressed by the spell that Felolia used to such good effect....
(7) Kaylin: Spell Turning seemed particularly useful, and I crafted my spell such that it wouldn't require an inordinately high ability level.
(7) Kaylin: It's like you read my mind. Of course you did, haha.
(8) Kibin: Ah yes. Kaylin's spell requires a 2 hour ritual.
** (7) Kaylin found the F10 macro key **
(7) Kaylin: (bah, wrong button)
(8) Kibin: (great job.)
(7) Kaylin: 2 days, I think you'll find.
(7) Kaylin: (hey, it's dark. I can't even see the keyboard.)
(1) GM: Old man: Me? I'm nobody. As your friend here is officially under my teutalage, call me Teacher. And I can deal with a long casting time.
(1) GM: (Turned the lights off?)
(8) Kibin: Okay, Teacher...
(7) Kaylin: (yeah, lights off, saves power and less eye strain)
(1) GM: (that's not entirely true - your eyes need background light to properly adjust to the light levels; a single bright segment of your field of vision, which you focus on, can hurt your eyes a bit if everything else is dark.....)
(8) Kibin: Could you clarify on what you mean by my soul is entwining with the magic? Like how long the process will take before it's finished?
(7) Kaylin: (yeah, though I spend little time on openRPG. Most other screens I use are black with grey text)
(1) GM: Old Man: That depends on how strongly your sould wants to be it's new dragon self. I think the casting itself started the process.... but it's your soul that decides how hard to push, and souls are hard to predict.
(8) Kibin: Ah.
(1) GM: Old Man: Shucks; under the wrong circumstances, I suspect you might even retreat from the form....
(9) Elorin: (in other words, depends on how often you take dragon HD when levelling up)
(1) GM: (Yep - and losing one of those backs off.....)
(1) GM: Old Man: So... as it's likely I'll be needing the diamond... would you prefer cash, or perhaps an equal value in other diamonds? I hear tell they are particularly useful to holy-types.....
(8) Kibin: I'm the only one who's died so far...
(8) Kibin: Well, me and Jason, that is, but Jason is already dead.
(7) Kaylin: I'm open to either solution.
(1) GM: Old man: Yeah.... that kinda freaks most the students... except for the black robes.....
(8) Kibin: I like cash.
(9) Elorin: A number of smaller diamonds would be useful in case one of us dies, but we shouldn't need as much as that diamond is worth
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, some kind of compromise, then....
(7) Kaylin: Perhaps some more spells?
(8) Kibin: Money is more flexible..
(8) Kibin: Kaylin could always teleport back to a city for the diamonds...
(9) Elorin: I can cast Resurrection with a diamond a tenth as valuable as that one
(1) GM: Old Man: Yes.... it's why most our diamonds are cut in 5,000 sizes....
(8) Kibin: And my money suggestion goes unanswered...
(1) GM: Teacher: So, what - one or two of the 10 grand size, and the rest in gold?
(7) Kaylin: (isn't the diamond worth 100,000?)
(1) GM: (Yep; Ressurection is pricy...)
(8) Kibin: I'd rather have all of it in gold, since we have a caster who can teleport...
(9) Elorin: The 5000 size would be more flexible
(1) GM: Jason: If she isn't the one that needs the help.....
(8) Kibin: Bah. Elorin has windwalk.
(9) Elorin: (5000 for Raise Dead, which I'll probably be getting back at some point, 10k for Resurrection, 25k for True Res (when I'm level 18))
(7) Kaylin: Considering how tough I am, it's probably best to be sure there's at least one resurrection-type spell available.
(1) GM: Teacher: Ah... so how do you want it?
(7) Kaylin: (brb, gotta go for about 30 minutes)
(9) Elorin: Well, how much insurance do the rest of you want against disaster?
(7) Kaylin: Quite a bit.
(9) Elorin: I'm afraid the question is somewhat academic for me, since I'm the only one of us capable of casting the spells
(1) GM: So... even trade for the spells, then let others hash out how many ress diamonds?
(8) Kibin: (yes. i'm here.)
(1) GM: Jason: Well... push comes to shove, we could convince the lady wizard to pick up a planar binidng kit, and Call up a good outsider to deal with that aspect....
(8) Kibin: Huh?
(1) GM: Ping?
(8) Kibin: (pong.)
(1) GM: Old Man: A solution to many of our healing issues - the medic is actually a Sorceror, very well advanced, you uses Planar Binding to call up someone who can help. We usually have to donate to an obscure temple, though, so it can get a bit pricy.
(8) Kibin: That works, I guess.
(8) Kibin: You could just have a cleric, you know.
(1) GM: Old Man: Yes, but that's no fun... much more exciting to deal with the occasional Solar that breaks loose and starts targetting black-robes.
(7) Kaylin: (back a lot earlier than I thought... laundry *shrug*
(9) Elorin: I really hope you don't kill the Solar when that happens.
(1) GM: Old Man: Nah; just Dismiss them. Always useful to have a Solar who knows you could have killed him, but didn't.
(1) GM: Old Man: They tend to charge less.....
(1) GM: Old Man: So, how many of what size on the diamonds?
(1) GM: Old Man: Mayhaps half a dozen of the five grand size?
(8) Kibin: I don't know...
(7) Kaylin: That sounds acceptable to mee.
(9) Elorin: Yes, that should be sufficient
(1) GM: Teacher: All righty then.....
(8) Kibin: Fine.. how much does it leave each one of us?
(1) GM: The old man again reaches deep into his pockets, and withdrawls a half-dozen 5,000 gp diamonds out, as well as a bag.
(9) Elorin: (assuming he's paying full value instead of half, [70000/5] -> 14000 each)
(7) Kaylin: Those are handy pockets.
(1) GM: The old man reaches into the bag, and sits there for the full time needed to count out seven thousand platinium pieces.
(1) GM: Teach: Oh yes, quite handy. Temperature controlled, even.
(1) GM: Old Man: Got the big one?
(9) Elorin: Better tuned than the room controls?
** (7) Kaylin hauls it out of her bag **
(1) GM: Instructor: Ah, that should do.....
(8) Kibin: I wish I had one of those...
(1) GM: The old man grabs the diamond, and walks away from the gems and platinum.
(7) Kaylin: Shiny...
** (8) Kibin asks, "Can I have it in gold instead?" **
(9) Elorin: Why?
(1) GM: Old Man: There's a moneychanger in the commercial district.
(9) Elorin: That much gold is a bit bulky
(1) GM: Old Man: Looking to start a horde?
(9) Elorin: ([14000/50] -> 280 pounds)
(8) Kibin: Hehehe, already started one...
(1) GM: (surprisingly not, actually - just heavy - gold is DENSE....)
(9) Elorin: (looking to start a large mass of minions? :P)
(8) Kibin: Ah, I'll keep the platnium for now.
** (8) Kibin opens his pouch thingie, takes out his portable hole, places it on the floor, then places the platnium pieces inside the portable hole. **
(1) GM: 280 pounds of gold actually only fills up about 400 cubic inches - less than a single cubic foot. It's a bit more than that, with the irregular shape of coins, but stilll
(7) Kaylin: So, about the spell trade...
(7) Kaylin: one-for-one, mine for Spell Turning?
(1) GM: Instructer: Ah, yes... you wanted Spell turning....
(1) GM: Insturcter: Sounds lovely...
(1) GM: The old man pulls a mundane spellbook out of his pocket.....
(8) Kibin: Wait.
(1) GM: Teacher: I'll show you mine if you show me yours.....
(7) Kaylin: My spellbook is still in my room.
(7) Kaylin: Shall we?
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, inviting me in? Wonderful!
(8) Kibin: You didn't even have it in your bag of holding?
** (8) Kibin closes the portable hole, and folds it. **
(8) Kibin: I don't think you would want to be in my room right now, it's a bit chilly.
(7) Kaylin: I didn't bring my bag of holding to the duel.
(1) GM: Instructor: Wise.
(8) Kibin: Ah yes. Forgot about that.
(7) Kaylin: I get turned to a statue 10 minutes ago and you forget?
(7) Kaylin: See what I go through with these muscle-thinking people?
(1) GM: Old Man: Ah, yes, the forgetfulness of youth....
** (8) Kibin does a cone of paralyzation at Kaylin, to get a few moments of peace. **
(1) GM: Old man: Now, now, none of that....
(9) Elorin: Hey now, that's not nice
(1) GM: The old man casts a spell at Kibin....
(1) GM: Save vs. Reflex.
** (7) Kaylin smiles **
(7) Kaylin: Reflex save: [1d20+10] -> [19,10] = (29)
(8) Kibin: [1d20+15] -> [4,15] = (19)
(9) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [15,18] = (33)
(7) Kaylin: (25.)
(7) Kaylin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+31] -> [1,31] = (32)
(1) GM: Oh, and Kaylin - save. vs. Fort., as he did get it off.....
(8) Kibin: (acually Kaylin is supposed to save vs. fortitude...)
(7) Kaylin: (holy crap)
(7) Kaylin: (I rolled lower than Elorin on spellcraft!)
(9) Elorin: (wow, I actually beat you on a spellcraft roll :) )
(7) Kaylin: Fortitude save: [1d20+9] -> [1,9] = (10)
(1) GM: Kibin - you find yourself stuck in an invisible bubble of force.
(7) Kaylin: (hooray for 2 1s in a row)
whispering to Kaylin, Resiliant sphere
whispering to Elorin, Resiliant sphere
(7) Kaylin: I've got to learn to do that.
(8) Kibin: (and kaylin is now paralyzed for 1d6+1 rounds...)
(8) Kibin: (and can't talk. hehe.)
(7) Kaylin: (whenever I'm unparalysed.)
(1) GM: Kibin can't talk either, as the bubble blocks everything other than light....
(8) Kibin: [1d6+1] -> [4,1] = (5)
(8) Kibin: (kaylin is paralyzed for 30 seconds...)
(1) GM: And it doesn't expire until the Instructor dismisses it, or 21 minutes pass....
** (8) Kibin smiles. At least he got his silence. **
(7) Kaylin: Hmm, why don't we leave him there while we go and compare spells?
(1) GM: After Kaylin's 30 seconds are up....
(1) GM: Instructor: Sounds like a plan.
** (8) Kibin sighs. Kaylin did recover, after all. **
(7) Kaylin: (yep, back to her usual self.)
(1) GM: So.... the instructor follows Kaylin to her room, where they do bizzare and arcane things for a while?
(7) Kaylin: yep
** (7) Kaylin gets changed too. **
** (9) Elorin leaves Kibin to his isolation in the Sphere **
** (8) Kibin decides to wait then. **
(7) Kaylin: (hehe)
(1) GM: And Jason goes and looks at geting his new shield improved with his shiny new platinum....
(1) GM: [70000/5] -> 14000
(9) Elorin: (if I'm reading the spell right, Dispel Magic auto-succeeds against Resilient Sphere, so I could dispel it)
(9) Elorin: (but I think Kibin deserves it)
** (8) Kibin thinks it was worth it, though. **
(1) GM: And gets it improved.
** (8) Kibin wonders what dragons do to pass the time. **
(7) Kaylin: (sit and fantasize about gold)
(8) Kibin: (i didn't ask you! :P)
(7) Kaylin: (I have permanent Read Thoughts OOC cast)
(1) GM: And fifteen minutes into the duration, a couple of black robes walk in, and pile stuff on top of the spehere - buckets of tar, mostly, and wander off.
** (8) Kibin sighs... **
(1) GM: A minute later, they come back with feathers....
(9) Elorin: (lol)
** (8) Kibin glares at the black robes, hoping to intimidate them away. **
(7) Kaylin: (lol)
(9) Elorin: (hmm, what should I spend my money on?)
(1) GM: They leave ... leaving the tar and feathers ready to fall.
(7) Kaylin: (I knew them studenst were up to no good)
(1) GM: At the end of the duration....
(1) GM: Kibin, Reflex save.
(8) Kibin: [1d20+15] -> [20,15] = (35)
(9) Elorin: (come on, fail :P)
(8) Kibin: (ha.)
(9) Elorin: :(
(7) Kaylin: :(
(1) GM: Success - and with evasion, not a drop of tar and not a single feather hits the little dragon.
(7) Kaylin: (dangit!)
** (8) Kibin looks around to see if the black robes were watching. **
(1) GM: Spot check?
(7) Kaylin: (they should have Scryed..)
(8) Kibin: [1d20+13] -> [7,13] = (20)
(1) GM: You spy a little floating eye zipping merrily down the corridor... several of them, actually....
(7) Kaylin: (smart)
(8) Kibin: (can they all be hit with a cone? :)
(1) GM: Nope; different directions, and moving quite quickly.
** (8) Kibin sighs. "Haha, very funny..." he comments. Then he walks off to find Kaylin and the Teacher. **
(1) GM: And he finds they are behind closed doors, cackling and making odd sounds....
(8) Kibin: Wonder if those mages can hear me through those eyes...
** (8) Kibin knocks. **
(1) GM: And they hear it.
(7) Kaylin: (I'm making odd sounds?)
(1) GM: Mostly it's the old man making double entendras, with the sound muffled through a door....
(7) Kaylin: (oh no)
(7) Kaylin: (not the dreaded double entendre)
** (8) Kibin wonders if they heard him. **
(1) GM: Kaylin did indeed hear the knock.
(7) Kaylin: Someone knocking?
** (7) Kaylin goes to open the door **
(1) GM: Old Man: Oh, just ignore it; I'm sure I'll have a nice new belt soon if he tries to barge in....
(8) Kibin: Um, can you tell your friend that there's some tar and feathers where he put me in that bubble?
** (7) Kaylin opens the door **
(7) Kaylin: Ah, so the students had a bit of fun with you?
** (7) Kaylin smiles **
(1) GM: Old Man: Oh, I can hear you...... and it'll get cleaned up in short order by the maintenece golems.
(8) Kibin: Yes, you could say that...
(8) Kibin: Ah.
(8) Kibin: Please don't do that again, it's boring in that bubble...
(1) GM: Old Man: Strange, though... normally they find worse things to drop... ah, must have been due to the wings; you simply must have feathers to go with them.....
(7) Kaylin: Well, you were trying to paralyse me.
(1) GM: Teacher: Oh, and I only do that when people get out of hand; keeps the blacks in line.
(8) Kibin: Meh. At least I got some peace...
(7) Kaylin: I'd imagine the whites probably go a bit off sometimes as well.
(1) GM: Teacher: Mostly only towards the blacks.... and then, usually with direct, fairly obvious, cause.
(7) Kaylin: true.
(8) Kibin: Um, what do you mean by worse things to drop?
** (8) Kibin looks around suspiciously. **
(1) GM: Instructor: Do you really want to know? This place has a great many different magical substances available..... and some munane ones, too.
** (9) Elorin is off inquiring at the crafters' about something to aid his reflexes. Specifically, something to help him dodge things completely, like he's noticed Kibin doing quite frequently. **
(1) GM: Insturctor: Occasionally, they even encase the bubble in stone.... but then they don't get to watch.... so the stuff that falls can't miss.
(8) Kibin: Meh.
(7) Kaylin: Clever idea.
(1) GM: You find a shop, that does indeed have such a ring for sale.
(8) Kibin: At least I'm not covered in fur anymore, and it's easier to clean.
** (9) Elorin asks if they could combine such a ring with his Ring of Sustenance **
(8) Kibin: What exactly do you do for fun around here?
(9) Elorin: (already have 2 rings, don't want to give up either of them)
(7) Kaylin: Encase dragons in bubbles
(1) GM: Old Man: Well, you've already encountered what the black robes do for fun....
** (8) Kibin considers if being encased in a bubble is worth more silence from Kaylin. **
(8) Kibin: And the other robes?
(1) GM: Instructor: Mostly spell research, spell demonstrations, and the occasional summoning.
(8) Kibin: Ah.
(8) Kibin: Anything else? Something I can do?
(1) GM: Instructor: Well, I suppose you could try breaking into someone's room, but that's not reccomended.... you might see about being a demonstration subject, or just attending a demonstration of a researched spell.
(8) Kibin: Demonstration subject? To what exactly?
(1) GM: Gotta go - dinner.
(8) Kibin: (NOOOOOOOO!)
(8) Kibin: (WAIT 15 MINUTES! :P)
(8) Kibin: (can we at least pause here. i need to go in 15 minutes.)
(8) Kibin: (bah.)
(8) Kibin: (haha kaylin. i paralyzed you.)
(7) Kaylin: (haha, I could cast at you...)
(8) Kibin: (haha you can't paralyze me.)
(7) Kaylin: (better things to do than paralyse)
(9) Elorin: (Flesh to Stone paralyzes, among other things... :P)
(8) Kibin: (bah.)
(8) Kibin: (kaylin, mind if we pause here.)
(7) Kaylin: (sure, I'm browsing the spell list for more stuff to pick up)
(8) Kibin: (okay. i guess this is a good stopping point.
(8) Kibin: (you can still discuss OOCly, though.)
(8) Kibin: Disconnecting from server...
(8) Kibin (exit): 19:31
(1) GM: Ah, well.... now's a pretty good stopping point, actually....
(9) Elorin: yeah
(9) Elorin: so, Ring of Evasion combined with my Ring of Sustenance?
(1) GM: Possible... but subject to the +50% surcharge for multiple independant abilities, and requires a caster capable of fulfilling all requirements.
(1) GM: .... and Create Food and Water is a clerical spell....
(1) GM: ... so you can't commission it here.
(1) GM: ... unless, of course, it's on your list, and you care to collaberate....
(9) Elorin: Are you sure crafters have to fulfil requirements for existing abilities in order to add new ones?
(1) GM: Well, as the less expensive portion, the Sustenence part gets the surcharge, and must be enchanted to a higher level.
(1) GM: You could also get the ring of evasion, and drop the ring of sustenence for the Ioun stone.
(1) GM: Of course, the stone doesn't have the less-sleep portion.....
(12) Elorin (enter): 19:56
(12) Elorin: I always thought that just reflected the difficulty in fitting the magical components together, not requiring any particular skill beyond the crafting feat
(1) GM: You could also get the ring of evasion, and drop the ring of sustenence for the Ioun stone.
(1) GM: Of course, the stone doesn't have the less-sleep portion.....
(9) Elorin (exit): 19:58
(1) GM: When merged as such, it becomes a new item, and must be dealt with accordingly.
(12) Elorin: I don't suppose I could substitute Heroes' Feast... :D
(12) Elorin: It accomplishes the same thing and a whole lot more...
(1) GM: Oh... maybe.... that could work....
(1) GM: Yes... yes it could....
(1) GM: Let's see... so 25,000 gp value for the Evasion; an additional 1250 from the boost in the Sustenence.....
(1) GM: 26,250 spent to commission, even though you're helping, if the other is set as the creator (and pays XP)
(12) Elorin: I'll take it
(1) GM: Ookay.
(12) Elorin: [2980-2625] -> 355 pp left
(1) GM: ... leaving you slightly short on cash.....
(1) GM: ... but Evasion is so useful for someone with good reflex saves....
(12) Elorin: what would I need that much money for besides magic items?
(1) GM: Material Components?
(12) Elorin: and we've already got diamonds for resurrecting people
(1) GM: For now.
(1) GM: Well, I suppose now is as good a time as any to close the server....
(7) Kaylin: Yeah, I'm buying some stuff, but it could be done on forums.
(7) Kaylin: Although, would it be more cost-effective for me to buy scrolls or pay the fee for copying from spellbooks?
Server Administrator-> Closing server, unless someone has an objection....
(12) Elorin: scroll = 25 * spell level * caster level
(12) Elorin: copy from book = 50 * spell level, IIRC
(1) GM: Guess which way the math is better past spell level 1?
(7) Kaylin: excellent.
(7) Kaylin: that saves me about 15000 then....
(7) Kaylin: er, not quite that much
(7) Kaylin: but a lot.
(12) Elorin: plus, you don't have to pay for expensive material components from the book
** (7) Kaylin is going to get a nice fat spellbook... **
(1) GM: Yeah. A scroll of an 8th level spell costs, at a minium, [25*8*15] -> 3000, while the same spell, copied straight from the book, costs a mere 400 gp.
(12) Elorin: so, how quickly is your spellbook going to expand to include the entire SRD?
(12) Elorin: :P
(7) Kaylin: Give me a few more weeks :)
(7) Kaylin: and another spellbook...
(1) GM: There's actually not room in a single Blessed Book for the entire SRD Sor/Wiz spell list.....
(1) GM: Takes about three or so.
(12) Elorin: Oh yeah, don't forget to finally put some Symbols on your book
(7) Kaylin: Well, I currently am a bit low on XP..
(7) Kaylin: Those symbols are going on very soon.
(12) Elorin: Symbols only cost cash, I think
(1) GM: Until we get to the forums, and I announce how much you got from that CR 17 giant.....
(7) Kaylin: Permanency though...
(7) Kaylin: That was 17?
(1) GM: Symbols cost cash; Permanency costs plenty.
(1) GM: It was seriously unlucky.
(7) Kaylin: I suppose I could use a non-Permanent Symbol in the interim.
(12) Elorin: Symbols are permanent until triggered I think
(7) Kaylin: yeah. wasn't it's highest roll 6 or something?
(12) Elorin: they'd hold at least until the first theft attempt
(12) Elorin: no, I think it rolled a 7 or 8 after that
(7) Kaylin: Yeah...
(1) GM: Yes.. .. but Permanency makes it so that they KEEP GOING OFF (although it takes 10 minutes for them to reset.....)
(7) Kaylin: Personally, if I was a thief, and we just got slaughtered by a spellbook, I wouldn't go near the thing.
(7) Kaylin: I mean, you're about to steal it from an innocent helpless plot-abused GM-hated dice-hated wizardess..
(7) Kaylin: :)
