(1) Jack Simth: Well, it's useful to keep it separate, as you still lose Dex when caught in a grapple (to those outside the grapple) as a grapple is closer to an Immobilized condition than being struck by an Invisible attacker.

(2) Kibin: But grapples are easy to get out of anyway. :P

(1) Jack Simth: Always good to get a second chance vs. those pesky Will saves. By the way - how does your Will save compare to your Reflex?

(1) Jack Simth: So you have a 25% better chance to avoid a reflex item, and take no damage due to normal evasion, than you have to make a Will save (most of which are "negates")

(1) Jack Simth: True, but you can always choose to forgoe a will save for the good effects, and the ones that are really bad for the rest of the party are those that control....

(3) Elorin: huh, this discussion made me think of how Hold Person allows a new save every round but Hideous Laughter doesn't. Then I looked up Hideous Laughter, and I'm wondering whether the material component is a typo or not.

(1) Jack Simth: No, that would be pulling a 9th level spell - Meteor Swarm - on you, targetting you with all four. Touch attack hits -> No reflex save for you. An Empowered Maximized Scorching Ray would deal ((24+2d6)*3)*1.5

(2) Kibin: Most monsters you send at us has at least an attack modifier of 20.
(2) Kibin: So it would seem to me it would only miss on a natural 1.
(1) Jack Simth: Yes, but most monsters don't toss around Scorching Rays. A 14th level caster with +3 Dex has a +10 attack roll modifier (and I'd be more likely to go with a 16th or 18th level caster, but that's neither here nor there) could hit on an 8 or better; which is a 65% chance.
(1) Jack Simth: Thus, the net average for such a caster would be [130.2*0.65] -> 84.63
(1) Jack Simth: Ignoring nat-20 crits, that is.
(2) Kibin (whispering): By the way, about the sorcerer ring you suggested? Another solution would be a ring that gives the user the spell-like abilities of a dragon three age categories higher.

whispering to Kibin, That would be a heck of a lot harder to price, as spells known get expensive fast, so it's highly variable. Command-word pricing for a Charisma 11 Sorceror 1 works out to 5,310 gp; Sorceror 3: 27,337.5; a difference of 22,000 gp. Between 3 and 5, though, there's about a 70,000 gp difference - such a ring is MUCH more useful to older dragons than to younger ones. A ring that lets spellcasting as a particular Sorceror is much simpler to price.

whispering to Kibin, Besides - training wheels for baby dragons? Too good to pass up.....

whispering to Kibin, think about riding a bicycle; when someone just starts out, training wheels keep them from falling over - they let the rider practice in relative safety. A "training ring" for spells gives a baby dragon a few abilities the little tyke wouldn't have until much later - letting the little tyke hunt in relative safety. Sure, Mage Armor and Shield don't help all that much, but the idea is that the little snookums has a way of getting away from danger.

(1) GM: Big Dragon (Draconic): You're just hatched. Sure, they SAY they're your allies, but they're just trying to trick you. We've run into this a time or two before; although these are the first so brazen to offer a clutch for trade.

Then I died again, got reincarnated into a human, and finnally got to be a silver dragon again through the same spell." **

(1) GM: The dragon concentrates, and mubles something, and gestures with it's claws....

(1) GM: The dragon steps into the tower, and slowy hovers down.
(1) GM: The wind off the wings is quite strong. Kibin, make a Strength check.

(1) GM: Back at the ground, most the guards look annoyed that the dragon didn't choose their trader.
(1) GM: The dragon, spotting the wagon, approaches.
(1) GM: Dragon: Let's see..... The two wagons, a halfling, an elven female, a bird, an elven male, a wyrmling, and myself; How does the ghost get around?
(1) GM: Jason: In the bird.
(1) GM: Dragon: Eight, then.

(1) GM: Dragon: Too much for my helm to teleport. Guess we'll just have to take the slow route.
(1) GM: In a booming voice, the dragon shouts: "OPEN THE GATE!"
(1) GM: Several dwarves near the door begin busilly turning away on a pair of winches, and the gates slowly begin to open.
(1) GM: The dragon sets down on the ground, and begins walking.
(1) GM: Dragon: Follow me.

(1) GM: As does Kaylin, Eldon, Jason, the wagon, and the carriage.

** (2) Kibin also decides to get a little exercise, and walk outside the wagon and carriage. **

(1) GM: The dragon leads out of the city, making sure to go slowly enough that the landlubbers in the party can keep up. Seems a little annoyed at the delay, though.
(1) GM: After an hour or so, you come to the edge of a dense forest, and the dragon hesitates.
(1) GM: Dragon: I so hate to go through here on claw.....
** (2) Kibin says, "Elorin can use Wind Walk so we can fly over." **
(1) GM: Dragon: Heh; I don't trust mortal spellcasters.
** (2) Kibin says, "He can cast it on the rest of the party, so we can keep up with you while you fly?" **
(1) GM: Dragon: That could work.....
(1) GM: (so of course, Elorin's out....)
(1) GM: (Ah well.....)

(1) GM: Yep; Elorin casts Wind Walk.....

(1) GM: You do find you have a problem - control of the faster winds isn't as fine as you'd like - 300 is the minimum you can move and still stay aloft without dropping all the way down to a move of 10; and the dragon's only moving at 150.
(1) GM: Dragon: Stupid spellcasters......
(2) Kibin: (Move fast, slow down and wait for dragon. Move fast, repeat.)
(1) GM: The dragon shakes it's head, and begins hustling.

(1) GM: The next day, Kaylin stops and identifies the loot, as well as taking care of the sendings.

(1) GM: (nope. It was so a halfling wouldn't have difficulties carrying the expected loot, and to keep the refills for his various holders for the alchemists's fire.)

(1) GM: Large Silver Dragon: Yeah, this little hatchling say's he wasn't a stolen egg, but polymorphed with some spell or other - but it hasn't worn off, like such should. Would you mind taking a look at him to see what's up?

(1) GM: The great wyrm's eyes glow blue, and he stares intently at Kibin.
(1) GM: Colossal Silver: Not one I've seen before. But no, that shouldn't wear off. For that matter, in a few years he may very well be one of us in truth. Strange, very strange.

whispering to Kibin, you need them if the spell needs them; a miniature cloak for Resistence, a Short Piece of copper wire for message, and a cured piece of leather for Mage Armor; standard in a spell components pouch; but Detect Magic, Endure Elements, and Ray of Frost? No components needed.
