(10) Kibin (enter): 16:06
(10) Kibin: Yo.
(9) Jack Simth: Hello again.
(10) Kibin: You need to have more random plot hooks.
(10) Kibin: Or more subtle plot hooks.
(9) Jack Simth: Hmm...... can I even spell sutblte? Sublte? Hmm......
(10) Kibin: Haha.
(10) Kibin: I mean like something interesting, but something that doesn't seem out of ordinary at the time.
(10) Kibin: Have you read all of the DMing stuff over at OOTS?
(10) Kibin: It talks a lot about giving 'texture' to the game world.
(9) Jack Simth: Don't think so... hmm....
(10) Kibin: For example, don't give texture to just the important stuff. Give texture to everything.
(10) Kibin: Like if there's a book that's important to the plot in a library, don't just describe the bookshelf. Describe the desk near the bookshelf, and anything else that might be in the room, equally well.
(10) Kibin: http://www.giantitp.com/Form.html
(10) Kibin: Or...
(10) Kibin: Linky
(10) Kibin: It's the difference between "You enter the wizard's study. There are some bookcases, a desk, and a chair. There are books all over the place, and a single red quill pen, eight inches in length, stands in a brass pot of ink on the desk." and "You enter the wizard's study. A musty smell fills the air, and swirls of dust follow you as you move. A pair of oak bookcases sit on opposite sides of the room, each filled with leather-bound tomes of assorted shades of brown. On the left bookcase, one shelf has broken, spilling its contents over the shelf below and the floor. A massive desk, at least seven feet in length, fills the center of the room, with dozens of tiny brass-handled drawers. A large book lies open on the desk, near a single red quill pen, eight inches in length, standing in a brass pot of ink."
(10) Kibin: This specifically is where I'm getting it from.
(10) Kibin: See? Texture is good.
(10) Kibin: This is the stuff I read when bored. :P
(10) Kibin: Heh, and the dragon assassin in there has gloves of dexterity.
(10) Kibin: And +6 to dex. :(
(10) Kibin: Ooo, he also has a few knowledge variants that allow successful knowledge checks to give you an advantage in combat. :)
(10) Kibin: For example, using an appropriate knowledge skill to know something that helps you in battle against something.
(10) Kibin: Helloooooooo.
(9) Jack Simth: Reading.
(10) Kibin: I don't think the other people are coming. :(
(9) Jack Simth: Appears not.
(11) Kaylin (enter): 16:34
(11) Kaylin: How was church work?
(9) Jack Simth: Typed too soon, apparently.
(9) Jack Simth: Nice enough; set tables for the easter breakfast tomorrow.
(10) Kibin: Actually, I had to poke and prod her to come. :P
(10) Kibin: Now Elorin needs to go check the fourms.
(12) Elorin (enter): 16:42
(10) Kibin: Yay!
(12) Elorin: Waiting for me?
(9) Jack Simth: Well, shall we?
(11) Kaylin: Gang's all here
Moving to room 'D and D'..

Server Administrator->
Welcome to Jack Simth's temporary server!
I put this up just for
a short gaming session on Saturday, and stop it after.
Session is schedualed for 10 AM Pacific Standard Time.
(11) Kaylin (enter): 16:43
(12) Elorin (enter): 16:43
(12) Elorin: (Sorry I took so long, had dinner and then went to browse at the book store)
(10) Kibin (enter): 16:44
(11) Kaylin: (I just found out myself)
(10) Kibin: (Now, initiative rolls?)
(9) Jack Simth: Yep. Initiative.
(12) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [16,6] = (22)
(11) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [1,2] = (3)
(9) Jack Simth: [1d20+3] -> [11,3] = (14)
(9) Jack Simth: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [14,5] = (19)
(10) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [19,3] = (22)
(12) Elorin: (so, what does the wheelbarrow hauler look like? One of their combat machines, or something new?)
(9) Jack Simth: Same as the rest, big, metal, piston-driven monstrosity; the cart looks much like a normal hand cart, but is made of metal, and is considerably larger than anything a man would push around; it is, in fact, shaped and bent so it can just barely get through the assorted doors of the place.
(9) Jack Simth: Elorin, Kibin, Jason, Metal Monster, Kaylin.
(9) Jack Simth: Elorin? It's about thirty feet away, on the other side of the portal in the floor.
** (12) Elorin hopes this one won't be as eager to fight as the last **
(9) Jack Simth: The ore inside is of varying shades, mostly red.
(9) Jack Simth: What's the duration on your Extended Tongues?
(12) Elorin: (6 hours)
(12) Elorin: (I didn't extend it on mine, but 3 hours is still quite a bit)
(9) Jack Simth: Okay; so Kaylin and Jason are out of the conversation loop for now, then, as I believe you just ran it on yourself and Kibin.
(10) Kibin: (Tounges is a touch spell, isn't it?)
(12) Elorin: "Hello, we want to speak with your leaders"
(12) Elorin: (yes, I think so)
(9) Jack Simth: Kibin?
** (10) Kibin readies himself to attack if diplomacy doesn't work. **
(9) GM: Jason follows the lead of the others and holds off for the moment.
(9) GM: A popping sound comes from the big metal monster, and a painfully echoing voice is heard.
(10) Kibin: (Note, it's a ready. Meaning if they attack before my next turn, I don't lose an action. Different from a delay...)
(9) GM: Yeah, slight trouble with that.... one of the many things we're supposed to do is keep this confusing place clear of those without proper authorization... which means you, I'm afraid.
(9) GM: Kaylin?
** (11) Kaylin readies until there are clear hostilities **
(9) GM: And as nobody's shooting anyone else at the moment, combat time down, for now. Might re-roll initiative later.
(10) Kibin: I don't suppose you could make an exception, because of you shooting us on sight and thus us failing to gain proper authorization?
(12) Elorin: Did your orders address the possibility of sentient people from worlds other than your own attempting to make peaceful contact?
(9) GM: Metal Monster: Hold on a moment......
(9) GM: The monster holds stock still for a few seconds.....
(9) GM: Crackly metallic voice: Ah, there it is..... Let's see... I'm supposed to either shoot you, smash you, or toss you through the nearest floor portal. Under no circumstances am I to let you navigate this place freely. Authorized personell will either respond via [Bad dice format] - [untranslatable - you get the impression of some form of communications device] or be wearing the proper uniform. Which you aren't, and you didn't.
(9) GM: Metal Monster: Wait - reverse that, you didn't and you aren't. Blech, long day.
(9) GM: There's a crackle and the metal monster stops speaking.
(12) Elorin: *sigh* Jason, we could use a guide and it doesn't sound like he'll be cooperating as longas he's still in there.
(12) Elorin: Orders to kill on sight unless we have proper authorization
(10) Kibin: I don't suppose you could make an exception or two? Being shot at is pretty painful.
(9) GM: Jason: Ah, well, that's not so bad.....
(9) GM: Metal Monster: Painful? It's supposed to be fatal..... don't suppose you could just hop through that little portal on that there floor, could you?
(12) Elorin: Sorry, but no.
(9) GM: Jason: Well, he hasn't hurt us yet.....
(9) GM: Jason: Still.... I suppose....
(9) GM: Jason starts approaching the big metal thing....
(9) GM: Big Metal: Hey now! Stop that!
(12) Elorin: Maybe don't so it quite yet, but at least get ready
(9) GM: Jason stops.
(12) Elorin: (*do, not so)
(9) GM: Big Metal: Ah good .... you don't show up right.....
(9) GM: Big Metal: Makes me nervous.....
(12) Elorin: So, you can either follow orders and in all likelyhood be removed from that machine, we've done it before, or you can make an exception for us.
(9) GM: Big Metal: Threats, is it? Huh. You don't look like you should be threatening anybody....
(10) Kibin: (Oh, did you see the gingerbread golem? :D)
(9) GM: (No, but sounds tasty)
(10) Kibin: You're not really that threatening without that suit of armor.
(10) Kibin: (Gingerbread Golem!)
(12) Elorin: Just stating facts. Which is it going to be?
(9) GM: Big Metal: These things are very specifically built not to open from the outside. Sure, there've been a couple of reports about a little flying silver snake that's supposed to be destroyed on sight.....
** (12) Elorin thinks Kibin needs to change form after this **
(9) GM: Metal Monstrosity: Hmm.... you look a lot like a little flying silver snake..... hmm.... pity the {untranslatable - impression of some form of speech apparatus} doesn't work so well here.....
(9) GM: Metal Monstrosity: Ah, here it is; terminate with extreme prejudice, groups of at least two, preffereably five. Well, just me alone can't be expected to try that out, now can I?
(9) GM: Metal Beast: Hmm.... well, I suppose I could pretend I didn't see you and just go on my way.....
(12) Elorin: Right, you're not a group of two, so you can't possible follow that order as written...
(12) Elorin: But we still need to have a talk with someone in authority
(10) Kibin: Before you do that, could you at least point us in the right direction?
(9) GM: The big metal beast attempts to scratch it's non-existant head.
(9) GM: Big Metal: Well, not really. This place is.... strange. Straight lines aren't.
(10) Kibin: Oookay.
(9) GM: Big Metal: Yeah. This place is all on one floor, right? You haven't gone up or down, except to get in and out through the floor glows?
(10) Kibin: That's right.
(9) GM: Big Metal: No, it's not.
(10) Kibin: Okay, as far as I'm concerned, I haven't gone up or down.
(9) GM: Big Metal: You've been going in straight lines. They aren't straight here.
(9) GM: Big Metal: To get to my refinery, I need to go through..... let's see.....
(9) GM: Big Metal: Two more k's, four u's, four r's, and six B's; that will put me right up against one of the walls; I dump everything through the floor portal there; it's right over the melting pot.
(10) Kibin: Oookay...
(10) Kibin: I don't suppose you have a map?
(9) GM: You hear a very loud, barking laughter.
(9) GM: Make a fort save.
(12) Elorin: Fortitude save: [1d20+18] -> [3,18] = (21)
(11) Kaylin: Fortitude save: [1d20+14] -> [18,14] = (32)
(10) Kibin: Fortitude save: [1d20+13] -> [13,13] = (26)
(9) GM: It's painfully loud, but not too bad.
(9) GM: Big Metal: Map? Map? That one little word doomed way too many people who tried to explore this place. It can't be mapped right. People have tried.
(10) Kibin: Uh, what's wrong with making a map?
(10) Kibin: Seems to be able to be modeled by a bunch of points connected by lines.
(9) GM: Big Metal: Remember how I said straight lines aren't straight? You quickly run out of ways of mapping things. Sections that should be right next to each other aren't. Sections that shouldn't are.
(12) Elorin: (did none of their explorers learn any graph theory? :P)
(9) GM: (Dinner - gotta go.)
(10) Kibin: (NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!)
(10) Kibin: (Meh. :P)
(12) Elorin: (hehe, found a free graph editor program :P)
(10) Kibin: (Nice.)
(12) Elorin: (not sure it has automatic pathfinding between two nodes, though)
(10) Kibin: (With a 3D map it's quite possible.)
(10) Kibin: A bunch of polygons with strings tied to them.
(10) Kibin: ()
(10) Kibin: (So you could toss it in your bag or whatever, and the map won't get messed up.)
(10) Kibin: (Then when you want to read the map, you simply take it out of your bag, place it on whatever surface, find your current location and the location you want to to go to, and then find the sequence of letters.
(9) GM: Back.
(10) Kibin: (The polygons could be pretty small, with simple unique symbols on them.)
(10) Kibin: (Then you have a table with the symbols and a small description of what plane they represent.
(10) Kibin: (See? Smart. :)
(9) GM: Who all's online?
(11) Kaylin: (Ready and waiting.)
(9) GM: So Kaylin, Kibin - Elorin?
(10) Kibin: (So what do you think of my idea?)
(12) Elorin: (I'm here)
(10) Kibin: (Simple, would be able to place it in a backpack, and it doesn't hurt your brain.)
(9) GM: Big Metal: If we don't follow travel instructions exactly right, we don't end up on the right plain. Which is a pain.
(10) Kibin: (Could also be created by some explorers that are exploring the various planes.)
(9) GM: Big Metal: Most the floor portals have been at least loosely explored; this one.....
(9) GM: Big Metal: ... has been earmarked for a possible farm at some point, but nothing we need now.
(9) GM: Big Metal: Should be perfectly safe; notes say lots of flowers, grasslands, and the like. You sure you can't just hop through it?
(10) Kibin: We could.
(10) Kibin: But I rather not.
(12) Elorin: You only have instructions for your refinery?
(9) GM: Big Metal: Yeah. They're given on a need-to-know basis. If we ever get lost, we're told to find the center - which involves finding the Walls, too - but they're never exactly clear on how to go about it. Still, they try.
(10) Kibin: You couldn't, oh I don't know, painted that one portal a different color?
(9) GM: Big Metal: Nah, security issues. Well, I have a deadline to meet, so if you'd be so kind, would you mind hopping down the floor portal? Saves me needed to spend the time throwing you in.....
(10) Kibin: Don't you think we could just hop back out?
(9) GM: Big Metal: Probably. But my orders don't address that....
(12) Elorin: I see. Well, let me take a look first...
** (12) Elorin peeks through the portal **
** (10) Kibin does so as well. **
whispering to Elorin, Kibin, Nice, peaceful, flowering grasslands, with people dressed in white robes walking around enjoying the scenery. Blue sky, clear sun.
whispering to Elorin, Kibin, Most the people have a slightly olive tone to their skin.
** (10) Kibin jumps in, since he can probally jump right back out. **
** (12) Elorin takes his head back out. **
(12) Elorin: Looks safe enough. We'll just give you time to get through that doorway
(12) Elorin: If you'll be so kind as to forget you ever met us...
(9) GM: Big Metal: Why? I followed orders best I could. I met a bunch of scrubs, tossed them through the floor portal. Simple enough.
** (10) Kibin flies around the portal, waiting for anyone else to come through. **
(12) Elorin: Good enough.
** (12) Elorin jumps through the portal **
(11) Kaylin: All right then.
** (10) Kibin waves to Elorin. **
** (11) Kaylin goes through **
(9) GM: Jason follows.
(10) Kibin: (You know, I'm pretty sure the portals open up high in the air.)
(9) GM: You find yourselves in a wide open field, biright, clear sun, lots of flowers, in reds, blues, yellows, and whites; there are quire a few people lounging about, with olive-skin, and white robes tied only over one shoulder.
(9) GM: They don't seem particularly interested in the new arriavals, despite the odd appearence.
(12) Elorin: (wait, are we in ancient Rome now? :P)
(10) Kibin: (So the portal doesn't open up in the air? O.o)
(12) Elorin: Recognize the plane, Kaylin? (quietly)
(9) GM: Oh, it's not too high; this place is quite pleasant.
(11) Kaylin: Knowledge: The Planes Skill Check: [1d20+16] -> [7,16] = (23)
whispering to Kaylin, Another segment of the Elesian Fields.
** (10) Kibin lands next to Kaylin and Elorin. **
(11) Kaylin: This is another area of the Elysian Fields, a sort of afterlife.
(10) Kibin: There's a lot of those, aren't there.
(12) Elorin: ("another"? Should I relabel the "peaceful afterlife" Kibin saw to "Elysium area 1"?)
(10) Kibin: (I don't know what afterlife I went to. I don't have any memories of the afterlife. :(
(9) GM: A woman with wings, dressed similarly to those without, lands next to you.
(9) GM: Woman: You aren't supposed to be here.
(12) Elorin: We're only visiting for a minute or so.
(10) Kibin: Yeah, we're a bit sidetracked, we'll be out of here in a few minutes.
(9) GM: Woman: Ah. Well, don't take anyone with you.
(12) Elorin: Wasn't planning on it.
(12) Elorin: (to the party) Think he's gone by now?
(10) Kibin: Do you think he'd care if we came back out if he was still there?
(12) Elorin: He'd probably just ask us to pop back through again.
** (12) Elorin hops back through the portal **
whispering to Elorin, All clear. Aren't even any tracks on the floor.
** (10) Kibin follows. **
(12) Elorin: Hmm, that guy mentioned "finding the center" as involving "finding the walls" as well.
(9) GM: As does Jason.
** (11) Kaylin wanders through last **
(9) GM: Jason: Yeah.... and that he was going to one. Anyone write down his directions?
(10) Kibin: Hopefully Kaylin mentally scribed those down.
(9) GM: Ach! Jason didn't know that in character! Grr.... nor does Kaylin, unfortunately - language barrier!
(11) Kaylin: (Wis check?)
(11) Kaylin: (true.)
(12) Elorin: Finding the center of a circle can be done by finding an edge, going in a straight line until you find another edge, then go back exactly halfway, turn 90 degrees, find another edge, find the opposing edge, and go back halfway from there.
(10) Kibin: Or.... wait...
(11) Kaylin: (O.o)
(10) Kibin: Nevermind. But, we can do Elorin's method.
(12) Elorin: Maybe if we just keep going through the same letter until we find a wall, go through the opposite letter counting rooms until we hit another wall, etc...
(10) Kibin: And we can do that starting from our center portal, so Kaylin can write it down.
(12) Elorin: (the only reason I thought of that was that someone actually did that in a book I read once.)
** (10) Kibin goes back through the passageway to the 'home' portal. **
(12) Elorin: (Had an implant that would kill him if he got too far from a particular emitter, so he used that method with the points where it started to hurt as the "edges" to find the emitter)
(10) Kibin: (What book was this? Seems interesting.)
(9) GM: (And then picked the thing up and took it with him, of course.)
(12) Elorin: (Man-Kzin Wars something-or-other)
(12) Elorin: (of course)
(12) Elorin: (book 2, I think)
(12) Elorin: (it was a long time ago)
(10) Kibin: (Okay, can we goahead and go through with this? No need to RP each and every room, I think.)
(9) GM: Ah, right....
(9) GM: Which letter first?
(10) Kibin: (Uh, A seems like a good choice.)
(9) GM: Let's see... from Home, A goes five, one of which has already been rolled; [4d100] -> [45,71,75,77] = (268)
(9) GM: And you reach an identical room, but this time, there is no gap under the A.
(9) GM: (The letter's still there, though.)
(10) Kibin: This is a wall, I suppose.
(10) Kibin: (What were the letters?)
(12) Elorin: Ok, so there's a wall. Back through the K's now, counting rooms.
(9) GM: You entered A, A, A, A; you left K, K, K, K.
(10) Kibin: (Not that. x.x)
(10) Kibin: (I mean the circular letter stuff.)
(12) Elorin: (A, K, U, D, L, R, F, B)
(10) Kibin: (Thank you. So that means that it's an octagon, the complex that we're in.)
(10) Kibin: (Well. Something resembling an octagon at least.)
(9) GM: Let's see.... from the Wall, you pass through 10 K's ... which means 11 on that side .... six of which have been accounted for..... [5d100] -> [86,38,97,35,4] = (260)
(9) GM: [2d4/2] -> 3.0
(10) Kibin: (Nooooooooo a low number!)
(10) Kibin: (We're all doomed!)
(12) Elorin: (so the home portal is exactly in the middle of the A/K route?)
(9) GM: Three of the beasts, already smoking and steaming, clawing there way back up out of the portal at the far end - where you can see that there isn't another arch under the K.
(10) Kibin: Crud. Retreat?
(12) Elorin: Ok, we've seen what we came here for, the wall, so just run and hope they don't follow.
(9) GM: They spot you. Roll for initiative.
(12) Elorin: Back through 5 A's.
(11) Kaylin: Sounds good to me.
(12) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [13,6] = (19)
(10) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [15,3] = (18)
(9) GM: [1d20+3] -> [3,3] = (6), [1d20+3] -> [16,3] = (19), [1d20+3] -> [7,3] = (10)
(11) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [4,2] = (6)
(10) Kibin: (Great. :(
(9) GM: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [5,5] = (10)
(11) Kaylin: (re-roll init?)
(9) GM: And two re-rolls; Beasts 2, 3; Elorin, Jason.
(9) GM: [1d20+3] -> [15,3] = (18), [1d20+3] -> [2,3] = (5)
(12) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [3,6] = (9)
(9) GM: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [14,5] = (19)
(11) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [12,2] = (14)
(9) GM: Ah, all three... [1d20+3] -> [14,3] = (17)
(10) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [5,3] = (8)
(9) GM: Metal 2, Elorin, Kibin, Jason, Metal 3, Metal 1, Kaylin.
(9) GM: Metal 2 shoots at Kibin. Twice. [1d20+15] -> [17,15] = (32) for [10d6] -> [6,6,3,3,4,5,1,5,2,5] = (40) and [1d20+15] -> [20,15] = (35) for [10d6] -> [4,6,2,5,2,1,4,2,5,4] = (35)
(10) Kibin: (This all seems familiar...)
(12) Elorin: (well maybe if you weren't so easily recognizable in your dragon form...)
(9) GM: Ouch, critical threat..... [1d20+15] -> [1+15] = (16) for [10d6] -> [4,3,1,5,1,3,1,3,4,2] = (27)
(9) GM: And no crit.
(12) Elorin: (good, because that would have been instant death)
(10) Kibin: (You rigged that incorrectly, it should be , not +.)
(9) GM: Soak 75 points of damage.
(9) GM: (Shush!)
(10) Kibin: (*whistles*)
(12) Elorin: (and this is why I keep suggesting that you get a con-boosting item)
(9) GM: Elorin?
(10) Kibin: (I'll also keep quiet about the massive damage rules, then.)
(9) GM: (Yeah, I don't like those.)
(12) Elorin: (neither of those individual hits was over 50, so massive damage does not apply)
(10) Kibin: (The other critical was over 50.)
(9) GM: Elorin? Your turn.
** (12) Elorin heals Kibin and goes through hall A, hoping the rest of the party can follow fast enough **
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Heal ( level 6, "Cures 10 points/level of damage, all diseases and mental conditions" )
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(10) Kibin: (Of course, only a DC 15 fortitide save to resist. Hmmmm.)
(9) GM: (1's happen.)
(10) Kibin: (Why do you think I hate save-or-die effects so much?)
(9) GM: (You notice these new critters don't have any save-or-dies?)
(12) Elorin: (that's what Death Ward is for, but the duration is woefully short)
(10) Kibin: (One, they're always fortitude or will effects, both of which I only have +13 in. Two, there's always a 1 in 20 chance of failing them.)
(10) Kibin: (There's never any reflex save or dies. :(
(9) GM: Kibin? You're feeling much better.
(12) Elorin: (how would a reflex save-or-die work, anyway?)
(10) Kibin: (True. But do you think I'd want to stay and fight three of those mechs?)
(10) Kibin: (And there's one on the OOTS page.)
(10) Kibin: (It's basically an annhilating gaze, that you can make a reflex save to close your eyes in time.)
(9) GM: (Spiked Pit trap with a Geleatinous Cube at the bottom, and walls coated with Salve of Slipperyness?)
(9) GM: Anyway......
(9) GM: Kibin? Actions?
(10) Kibin: (Where's the gelatinous cube?)
** (10) Kibin runs through the A's. Speeding along at about 400 feet per 6 seconds. Weeeeeee! **
(9) GM: (Granted, you'd just fly, but at low level's.....)
(10) Kibin: (Ah, under ooze.)
(9) GM: Jason stands Pat, stepping to the side and taunting the beasts.
(9) GM: Beat 3 fires..... [1d20+15] -> [7,15] = (22), [1d20+15] -> [7,15] = (22)
(10) Kibin: (Aside from the fact that I'm completely immune to paralysis and acid, and thus all it can do to me is 1d6 damage a turn, yeah it's nice.)
(9) GM: Ah, touch AC 27. The walls on either side of Jason ring, but do not break, as the pellets are deflected to either side.
(10) Kibin: (Of course, for me, a save or die reflex save is pretty easy.)
(9) GM: Beast 1 fires..... sorry Kaylin ..... these are intelligent, and you're the only viable target in the room now that they've noted they can't hit Jason very well.... [1d20+15] -> [1,15] = (16), [1d20+15] -> [3,15] = (18) [10d6] -> [4,2,3,3,4,2,6,6,2,2] = (34) [10d6] -> [3,3,2,1,1,1,3,4,4,5] = (27)
(9) GM: What's your Touch AC?
(10) Kibin: (Empowered maximized fireball. Level 8 spell, for intense pain on me.)
(11) Kaylin: (touch AC 13, I believe. Not up to 15 by any means.)
(10) Kibin: (Then 27 damage, I suppose.)
(9) GM: First was a nat-1, and doesn't matter; second, though.....
(12) Elorin: (luckily, a nat 1 misses anyway)
(9) GM: Yep.
(11) Kaylin: (*whew*)
(9) GM: One bullet goes wide, still distracted by Jason's taunting, the other slams into the wizardess.
(9) GM: Kaylin?
(10) Kibin: (Expeditous retreat!)
(12) Elorin: (16 damage absorbed by Heroes' Feast IIRC)
(10) Kibin: (Or wall of force, and walking calmly.)
(12) Elorin: (save the Walls of Force for when they're really necessary)
(10) Kibin: (It must be nice being GM. Knowing you have the fate of the players in your hands.)
(11) Kaylin: (Used up mine for today, since we never stopped and rested...)
(10) Kibin: (Ah...)
(10) Kibin: (Too bad you're not a light load for me.)
(11) Kaylin: (is there anyone besides Jason left?)
(9) GM: No.
(10) Kibin: (You?)
(9) GM: Well, you......
(11) Kaylin: (Can I see the others and how far they are?)
(10) Kibin (whispering): And I noticed you fixed the + problem....
(12) Elorin: (hmm, I wonder how they'd react to fog/clouds/vapor in here?)
(12) Elorin: (Prestidigitation to make everyone white and then Wind Walk :D)
whispering to Kibin, Didn't rig that one. You can check later in the logs - your own, if you save it - by going through the HTML; if you know how, that is.
(10) Kibin (whispering): True.
whispering to Kibin, *might* have fixed a crit confirm, but Kaylin has enough HP to absorb one full attack from those.....
(10) Kibin (whispering): Hehe, that was cool when I had consecutive 20s.
(9) GM: You can't see much past the current room; line of sight doesn't work past the arches.
(12) Elorin: (you can see that everyone but Jason's left already, and you know they can't hurt Jason)
(11) Kaylin: (Were the arches arranged linearly?)
(10) Kibin: (Well, from previous knowledge, you'd probally know I can move pretty fast when I want to.)
(10) Kibin: (Kaylin, just move through the A's already.
(9) GM: Circular. Equidistant around the room (except for the missing one, in this room)
(9) GM: Which means individual doors are about fifteen feet apart.
(10) Kibin: (It's fun to move at 40 miles an hour. :)
(11) Kaylin: (guess I'll just run away fast as I can)
(9) GM: From left edge to left edge; 10-foot wide doors, so only five feet of actual separation.
(9) GM: And jason's the only one left....
(9) GM: The metal beasts shoot at him futilly a few times, and he calmly walks away from them.
(12) Elorin: (and their bullets aren't magical, so they don't even have a 50% chance of affecting him :) )
** (10) Kibin waits way over on the end of the complex for everyone to catch up. **
** (12) Elorin walks through a total of five A's, ending back at the home portal **
(9) GM: Jason follows plan and meets up at the halfway point on the A-K line of doors.
(9) GM: Jason: Just the thing to get the pulse going. If I had one.
** (10) Kibin scratches his head, wondering where everyone is at. Then remembers that he's supposed to meet at the home portal, so he flies back. **
(9) GM: Jason: So, which set next?
(9) GM: Jason: Oh, and Elorin - could you give Kaylin a hand? She got hit.
(10) Kibin: Go over to the wall, find the width of that wall?
(10) Kibin: Hmmmm, wait.
(12) Elorin: Certainly.
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Moderate Wounds ( level 2, "Cures 2d8 damage +1/level (max +10)" )
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 2 Spell ( level 2, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(12) Elorin: [2d8+10] -> [4,6,10] = (20)
(10) Kibin: We could just go in a perpendicular direction from the A-K line.
(12) Elorin: Before we go any further, Kaylin, do you have Prestidigitation prepared?
(10) Kibin: Since we're on a line, and there's a wall on either side, the center has to be somewhere on the line perpendicular to this one.
(11) Kaylin: I do.
(12) Elorin: Except "perpendicular" may not mean the same thing here that is does at home.
(10) Kibin: Then all our attempts at finding the center are in vain. Your point?
(12) Elorin: Good. How about turning all our clothes white (and skin where necessary) and then Wind Walking for the rest of our exploration?
(12) Elorin: With luck, anyone we encounter will just think we're fog or something.
** (10) Kibin is already silver, including his clothes... **
(11) Kaylin: All right.
(11) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Prestiditation ( level 0, "Performs minor tricks." )
(12) Elorin: Fog may not be natural here, but I doubt they know everything about this place and may just dismiss it as a previously undiscovered phenomenon.
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Wind Walk ( level 6, "You and your allies turn vaporous and travel fast" )
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(10) Kibin: And, in case that doesn't work, we can just move very very very quickly out of the way.
(9) GM: Jason: Yeah, umm.... how do I keep up?
(12) Elorin: Yep, and their non-magical projectiles will have a harder time hurting us seriously.
(10) Kibin: Uh... We meet you back here?
(11) Kaylin: (I gotta go, dinnertime)
(9) GM: Jason: Yeah, I guess that works.
(10) Kibin: (Have to go in 25 minutes, by the way...)
(9) GM: So... at home portal, Jason and Kaylin acting as markers.
(11) Kaylin: (NPC me please.)
(9) GM: Ah, okay.
(9) GM: Jason acting as marker.
(11) Kaylin has sent you a tree node...
(9) GM: Got it.
** (10) Kibin goes figure out the boundaries of the perpendicular line, then. **
(9) GM: Which letter?
(12) Elorin: Let's try L.
(9) GM: Going through four to the wall; one accounted for; [3d100] -> [81,33,13] = (127)
(9) GM: All empty.
(10) Kibin: (I would choose something perpendicular to the A-K line...)
(9) GM: Ten going back the other way, five still unaccounted for.... [5d100] -> [33,8,6,29,50] = (126)
(9) GM: [2d4/2] -> 3.0, [2d4/2] -> 1.5
(10) Kibin: (Two low numbers. :(
(9) GM: [1d100] -> [21] = (21), [1d100] -> [89] = (89), [1d100] -> [92] = (92), [1d100] -> [72] = (72)
(9) GM: Seven from the wall, you encounter three of the beasts, looking fairly healthy.
(9) GM: Roll for initiative.
(12) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [15,6] = (21)
(10) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [18,3] = (21)
(10) Kibin: (Hehe. :P)
(9) GM: [1d20+3] -> [12,3] = (15), [1d20+3] -> [15,3] = (18), [1d20+3] -> [7,3] = (10)
(9) GM: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [9,2] = (11)
(9) GM: Elorin and Kibin - tiebreaker, not that it matters...
(12) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [17,6] = (23)
(10) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [4,3] = (7)
(9) GM: Elorin, Kibin, Metal 2, Metal 1, Kaylin, Metal 3.
(9) GM: You can tell two of them recognize that it's not just mist.
(10) Kibin: (Sure, Kaylin couldn't just be a marker. Nooooo.)
(9) GM: Elorin?
** (12) Elorin can't do anything but move or dismiss the spell, and I rather think the latter option is a bad idea **
** (12) Elorin flees through L, hoping Kibin and Kaylin can follow quickly enough **
(9) GM: Kibin?
** (10) Kibin zooms through, just a speedy pile of mist. **
(9) GM: One of the beasts shoots at Kaylin.... [1d20+15] -> [4,15] = (19), [1d20+15] -> [14,15] = (29), [10d6] -> [4,4,4,4,5,4,5,4,4,4] = (42), [10d6] -> [5,2,5,6,5,4,1,6,5,2] = (41)
(12) Elorin: (DR 10/magic)
(10) Kibin: (And that should apply, since bullets don't do well against mist.)
(12) Elorin: (hehe, it seems a little odd for that to actually matter at this level :P)
(9) GM: It means the difference betweek Kaylin having 1 HP and 21 HP.
(9) GM: And Kaylin moves out.
(10) Kibin: (You know, we go in one door and out the other before they can even react.)
(9) GM: Into the next room. Where there's another of the beasts, looking odd at strange clouds around himself.
** (12) Elorin moves on to the next **
** (10) Kibin zooms on by. Yup, just an innocent little cloud here. Not someone who you have destroy at all cost orders against. Nope, nope, nope. **
(9) GM: Which is empty. As is the next, which happens to be the end of the line.
(12) Elorin: Was anyone hurt before we could get out?
(9) GM: Kaylin: Yeah. Ouch.
(10) Kibin: Nope. They have destroy on sight orders against me, but I'm happily unharmed.
** (12) Elorin materializes **
(9) GM: As does Kaylin.
(12) Elorin: I'd better heal that before we go back
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Serious Wounds ( level 3, "Cures 3d8 damage +1/level (max +15)" )
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 3 Spell ( level 3, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(12) Elorin: [3d8+15] -> [4,6,6,15] = (31)
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Serious Wounds ( level 3, "Cures 3d8 damage +1/level (max +15)" )
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 3 Spell ( level 3, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(12) Elorin: [3d8+15] -> [7,3,2,15] = (27)
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Light Wounds ( level 1, "Cures 1d8 damage +1/level (max +5)" )
(12) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 1 Spell ( level 1, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(12) Elorin: (the minimum on that should get all the rest)
(9) GM: Kaylin: Ah, thank you.
** (10) Kibin goes back etheral, and then goes to the center. **
(9) GM: Kaylin: So... again 11 rooms across.....
(9) GM: Back 5 rooms?
(12) Elorin: Well, if my count is right, we've already looked through the "center" portal on this line, so it must not be perpendicular according to whatever rules this place goes by.
(10) Kibin: (I guess so.)
(12) Elorin: (back 6 rooms to Home, trying to move in and out of the one with 3 soldiers (if they're still there) faster than they can react)
(9) GM: Knowing that they are there, you don't have a trouble passing them.
** (10) Kibin pokes his head in to see what portal this one was. **
(12) Elorin: (Concordant Domain of the Outlands, by my records)
(10) Kibin: (Ever considered that that portal was the one we're looking for?)
(10) Kibin: (Seems to make sense that a perfectly neutral plane would be in the center.)
(9) GM: Tarteran Depths of Carceri, I think.
(9) GM: Although granted, I have a harder time tracking location on the quick marches....
(10) Kibin: (And the center doesn't explicitly have to be whatever plane that they originated in. It just has to be a place where they regroup at.)
(12) Elorin: (It's just one L away from Home, and we explored that one already and Kaylin identified it as the Concordant Domain of the Outlands)
(10) Kibin: (And it's possible that that portal is the one we need to go though...)
(9) GM: Ah, right - I was looking at the other side....
(12) Elorin: (Possible, yes. I'd prefer to check all the other directions first, though)
** (10) Kibin hops into the portal for a quick scouting around. **
(9) GM: And you don't see anything too terribly out of the ordinary.....
** (10) Kibin goes back up through the portal then, and back to the home portal. **
(9) GM: Jason: How goes it?
(10) Kibin: Bleh. Let's do the wall method.
(12) Elorin: I don't think we picked the right second direction to look in.
(9) GM: Jason: Well, there's two others.....
** (10) Kibin says, "We could check R, F, and B." **
(9) GM: L's return on R's.
(10) Kibin: (Doh, ignore that then.)
(12) Elorin: (don't you mean 6? Both A and K are present in each room, so it seems there would be two A/K lines, etc.)
(9) GM: A's return on K's. You walk through an A, and look back, you see a K. You walk through a K and look back, you see an A.
(12) Elorin: (oh, right, one for each direction on the same line)
(10) Kibin: (4 different line combinations, if each line has only 11 spaces, then that means that there's 14641 different combinations.
(12) Elorin: (duh)
(10) Kibin: (14641 different planes to explore. :)
(12) Elorin: Ok, so let's try U next.
(9) GM: (14640; they have to start on one, after all....)
(10) Kibin: (So it's something like a 11 by 11 fourth dimensional grid.)
(10) Kibin: (The center would be the fifth one on each line.
(12) Elorin: Or...
(12) Elorin: Maybe we have to find a place centered on each of all four lines.
(9) GM: From "Home", you pass through 8 U door's before hitting a wall; [7d100] -> [8,34,16,11,67,16,74] = (226)
(10) Kibin: Hmmm, if all the lines have 11 spaces...
(10) Kibin: Yeah, that was what I was going to suggest.
(9) GM: [2d4/2] -> 3.5
(9) GM: [3d100] -> [74,29,90] = (193)
(12) Elorin: Make that starting at the Concordant etc. place)
(9) GM: One recognizes that it's not clouds....
(10) Kibin: (Gah, I have to go.)
(10) Kibin: (But ha! I've learned the physics of this place now!)
(9) GM: And... we can hold here. Concordant as base, then?
(12) Elorin: (yes)
(10) Kibin: (I now know that any point in the system can be represented by four numbers, each with a value from 1 to 11!)
(10) Kibin: (And thus, given enough time, and knowing the coordinates of your plane, you can always find your home plane.)
(9) GM: All right... saving log....
(10) Kibin: (Really, not that hard. Hmmm.)
