Server Administrator-> You have connected to an OpenRPG server, version '1.6.1'.
Welcome to Jack Simth's temporary server!
I put this up just for a short gaming session on Saturday, and stop it after.
Session is schedualed for 10 AM Pacific Standard Time.

(1) Kibin (enter): 09:44
(2) GM: Morning.
(1) Kibin: Morning.
(1) Kibin: I want to do the daily random. :(
(2) GM: Sorry, just posted it.
(1) Kibin: Not that hard for me to do [100d100] -> [37,67,41,2,99,32,71,7,4,20,53,19,36,33,84,71,1,36,100,23,71,47,78,69,43,96,80,5,11,2,62,61,63,96,2,27,68,98,13,62,14,20,42,54,32,66,49,55,56,83,86,69,1,48,46,41,39,68,77,98,54,32,84,3,16,28,94,39,11,49,35,85,22,100,61,13,1,82,68,83,87,13,42,74,77,83,27,85,5,48,51,26,57,74,86,93,7,93,75,100] = (5097)
(1) Kibin: Meh. :P
(1) Kibin: How do you insert a text node?
(1) Kibin: Hey, could you do a few fixed rolls for me, and a few regular rolls? I want to see something.
(2) GM: Well, making them is under OpenRPG -> Templates -> Nodes; double click the one you want, then right-click the new node and click "Design" you probably used a Text Box, so you want to change it to "multi line"
(2) GM: [1d20] -> [20] = (20)
(2) GM: [1d20] -> [1] = (1)
(2) GM: Course, I'm not listed as the DM at the moment, as far as the system's concerned, so that looks a little odd from your end, no?
(1) Kibin: Not really.
(1) Kibin: [1d20] -> [20] = (20) is what I saw.
(2) Jack Simth: You're joking....
(2) Jack Simth: [1d20] -> [20] = (20)
(2) Jack Simth: [1d20] -> [20] = (20)
(2) Jack Simth: [1d20] -> [20] = (20)
(1) Kibin: No, I'm not.
(1) Kibin: [1d20] -> [20] = (20) is exactly what I saw.
(1) Kibin: What do you see when I do it?
(2) Jack Simth: Huh; guess it doesn't enfore it in the lobby. Strange.
(1) Kibin: No, I think it just doesn't enforce it when there's no GM.
(1) Kibin: Can you degrade me to spectator status?
(1) Kibin: Or rather, lurker status.
(1) Kibin: Want to test something.
(1) Kibin: Hmmm.
(2) Jack Simth: It doesn't seem to want to let me. Stranger.

(1) Kibin: I suppose that in the lobby, everyone's equal.
(1) Kibin: Ah well.
(1) Kibin: At least I know I can look in the text view to see if you fixed something or not. :)
(1) Kibin: Could you give me the letters again, and the conversion between them?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot (enter): 09:52
(2) Jack Simth: Morning.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hey look! I'm early!)
(1) Kibin: Going to scribble down the stuff on a text node for the game.
(2) Jack Simth: In order, they were A, K, U, D, L, R, F, B;
(1) Kibin: The Escapist might be interesting to you by the way.
(1) Kibin: So a->k, k->a, u->d, d->u, right?
(1) Kibin: And so on.
(1) Kibin: Oh, by the way, dragons do get halved distance penalties in normal daylight/light conditions. They can spot an encounter at double the range.
(2) Jack Simth: As you've observed in character, yes.
(1) Kibin: And four times that in shadowy illumination, like it would probally be during a full moon for example.
(4) Kelensiya (enter): 09:56
(2) Jack Simth: Morning.
(4) Kelensiya: Hello
(2) Jack Simth: "Keen Senses (Ex): A dragon sees four times as well a human in shadowy illumination and twice as well in normal light. It also has darkvision out to 120 feet."
(2) Jack Simth: I'm not sure where you're getting halved distance penalties...
(2) Jack Simth: Hey Kaylin.
(1) Kibin: In the Draconomicon, it clarifies that.
(2) Jack Simth: Not a book I have access to, not a source I'm using to adjucate mechanics.
(2) Jack Simth: May want to consider updating your /nick.
(1) Kibin: Well, what do you think it means?
(2) Jack Simth: "As far" as per the elves.
(2) Jack Simth: Breakfast; back in a bit.
(1) Kibin: That's poor illumination, not normal/shadowy illumination.
** (4) Kaylin goes to grab a bit of grub, back in a tick **
(1) Kibin: And quoting from it, it says, "In normal light, a dragon sees twice as well as a human. In game terms, this means that a dragon can detect the presense of a potential encounter at twice the distance given in the Dungeon Master's Guide. Also, when a dragon makes a spot check, it takes only half the penalty for distance."
(1) Kibin: Back to making home coordinates.
(1) Kibin: Center is 6 from the wall, right?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Revising my skills to account for the level of fighter - Which skill should I take? I've got 5 skill points.)
(1) Kibin: (Jump is good, since you get a -4 penalty to them for moving only at speed 20.)
(1) Kibin: Counting the +2 racial bonus.
(1) Kibin: And stop making me talk in (). :P
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Already put one point in jump)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Or kept one)
(1) Kibin: Ah.
(1) Kibin: Climb?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (I like to stay habitual, otherwise I tend to forget.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Could be usefull, but we've got all these spellcasters...)
(1) Kibin: So? :P
(1) Kibin: Hmmmm, nevermind.
(1) Kibin: Swim?
(1) Kibin: That seems more useful than climb.
(2) Jack Simth: Back.
(2) Jack Simth: Well, let's see.... we're missing Elorin.
(1) Kibin: Heh, did you know that clerics with the proper domain can turn/rebuke/command dragons?
(1) Kibin: Some of them at least.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, swim seems usefull)
(1) Kibin: Smith, how far away was the home portal from the L wall?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (But we've only swum in one adventure.)
(1) Kibin: Or simth, dang letter switching. :P
(2) Jack Simth: *grin*
(1) Kibin: Eldon, is any other skill really useful?
(1) Kibin: Intimidate is pointless since you didn't get it from the start.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (...Not really.)
(1) Kibin: Climb is pretty much useless, since spellcasters usually have a levitation spell, we have Jason anyway, and me and Elorin can just fly vertically up.
(1) Kibin: Ride... well it's a bit useful, except for the fact that we never ride anywhere anyway.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ok, one more skill point.)
(1) Kibin: Handle animal is redundant since we have ad ruid.
(1) Kibin: Craft might be nifty, though.
(4) Kaylin: Speaking of the druid.... I don't think he told you, but he's unable to come in this month
(4) Kaylin: taking 5 AP tests or something, so he's got a full load studying
(1) Kibin: Ah, okay.
(1) Kibin: June the 10th, I might be late by the way.
(1) Kibin: Taking my ACT test.
(2) Jack Simth: Ah, elemental domains - yep, White and Silver happen to be immune, as they have the cold subtype, rather than the water, air, earth, or fire subtype.
(1) Kibin: Yeah.
(1) Kibin: Of course, it seems to make sense that fire would be able to do the same against cold. :P
(1) Kibin: So 6, ?, 5, ?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Craft, I guess.)
(2) Jack Simth: It's not, however, listed in the domain power; and it makes a sort of sense - they are the domains that align with the elemental planes - Earth, Air, Fire Water - Cold isn't one of them, nor is Electricity. Granted, it is possible for an Archmage to get an Electricity Elemental, or an Acid Elemental, or a Sonic Elemental.....
(1) Kibin: So Acid/Earth, Sonic/Air, Electricity/Fire, Cold/Water...
(1) Kibin: Or maybe Acid/Earth, Electricity/Air, Sonic/Fire, Cold/Water.
(1) Kibin: Hmmmm.
(2) Jack Simth: Nah; it dost amuse me that some portion of the dragons are immune......
(2) Jack Simth: While others aren't.
(1) Kibin: Heh, probally good for me.
(5) Elorin (enter): 10:17
(2) Jack Simth: Morning.
(1) Kibin: Did you know that polymorphing into a cold subtype creature grants you cold immunity?
(5) Elorin: Afternoon here
(1) Kibin: As well as fire vulnerability.
(2) Jack Simth: And night elsewhere. Morning here, though. Perhaps "Good Day"?
(2) Jack Simth: Anyway - that's everyone who's expected.......
(1) Kibin: Polymorphing gives you all the natural abilities, so polymorphing into a plant type gives you immunity to mind-affecting enchantments for example.
Moving to room 'D and D'..

Server Administrator->
Welcome to Jack Simth's temporary server!
I put this up just for a short gaming session on Saturday, and stop it after.

(1) Kibin (enter): 10:19
(4) Kaylin (enter): 10:19
(3) Eldon Quickfoot (enter): 10:19
(5) Elorin (enter): 10:19
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (I would think that polymorphing into a plant would also give you immunity to your own mind.)
(1) Kibin: (Hmmm, I wonder.)
(2) GM: When we last left our hero's, they were most the way to locating this "center" that everyone had spoken of.....
** (1) Kibin asks Kaylin, "Can I borrow a piece of parchment to write some stuff down?" **
(4) Kaylin: Do you have a pen?
(1) Kibin: Uh, no. I was kind of hoping you would have that too.
(4) Kaylin: All right.
** (4) Kaylin lends Kibin a pen and piece of paper **
** (1) Kibin scribbles some stuff down in Draconic, and hands it back to Kaylin. **
(1) Kibin has sent you a tree node...
** (4) Kaylin reads **
(1) Kibin: We probally need to go back to the home portal, then explore the other two lines now...
(2) GM: Jason: Well, I'm game.
(1) Kibin: Hmmm, yeah, we could just send Jason to explore them for us...
(1) Kibin: (And I only sent the node to people that can understand Draconic, by the way... Unless Eldon can read it.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Don't think so - But I just found out I don't have his languages on the sheet.)
(1) Kibin: (x.x)
(1) Kibin: (And you didn't think you might NEED them?)
(5) Elorin: (Let's see, so far we've discovered we're on the center of A/K and the center of L/R is one L away. So we need to explore U/D and F/B still, I think)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Oh, I had them on the old sheet - But I lost that. I'm using the level-by-level short I wrote when making the character.)
(2) GM: (HD crashes are a PAIN)
** (1) Kibin goes back to the home portal if he isn't there already. **
(2) GM: And Jason just follows the guy who seems to think he knows what he's doing.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah.)
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot follows Kibin **
** (4) Kaylin is with the party **
** (1) Kibin hmmms, and asks Jason, "Could you go see how many rooms are in the U-D line and the F-B line? And tell me how many rooms including this one there are to U and F?" **
(2) GM: Jason: I suppose.......
(2) GM: Jason runs off through the doors.
(2) GM: He then runs back through a time or two, and, after a while, gives a brief report.
(1) Kibin: (*hopes he
(1) Kibin: (*hopes he's right*)
(2) GM: Int check: [1d20+2] -> [4,2] = (6)
(1) Kibin: (Noooooo. :(
whispering to Kibin, [2d3] -> [1,1] = (2)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Surely that's enough to count...)
whispering to Kibin, [2d3] -> [3,2] = (5)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Fingers, toes...)
(5) Elorin: (how does this require an int check?)
(1) Kibin: (Dude, it's simple.)
(5) Elorin: (counting rooms is not that hard)
(2) GM: Jason: Seems it's eleven both directions, all told. Eight rooms to the U, two to the D, and five either way on the F and B.
(5) Elorin: So the center should be one L and three U's away.
** (1) Kibin asks Kaylin, "Can I borrow that sheet of paper again?" **
(1) Kibin: (Or parchment, whatever is appropriate...)
** (4) Kaylin hands it back to Kib **
** (1) Kibin scribbles some more stuff on it, filling in a couple of blanks, then thinks for a moment. "Yeah, we take any three U's, but one R. I think." **
(1) Kibin: (What direction is that concordant plane in by the way?
(2) GM: L.
(1) Kibin has sent you a tree node...
** (1) Kibin hmmms, crosses out something, then writes something else. "Nevermind, Elorin was right." He then hands it back to Kaylin. **
(1) Kibin: And now we can move anywhere in this place, and find our way back, with those four numbers.
(1) Kibin: (You got the nodes, right?)
(2) GM: (Yep)
(1) Kibin: As well as the ability to map this place. Hmmm.
(1) Kibin: Anyway, off to the center now I guess.
(2) GM: What path?
(1) Kibin: (L, U, U U for me.)
(1) Kibin: (Since we already explored L.)
(2) GM: Let's see..... three unaccounted for.... [3d100] -> [69,17,41] = (127)
(2) GM: The trip is uneventful.
(1) Kibin: (Woohoo! Hopefully no encounters!)
(5) Elorin: (do I need to recast Tongues now?)
(2) GM: Yeah, probably.
whispering to GM, [1d100] -> [25] = (25)
(5) Elorin: (brb, lunch just arrived)
(1) Kibin: (Uh...)
(1) Kibin: (We wait for him to come back?)
(5) Elorin: (well, that's a first, they sent the wrong food. He'll be back with the correct order in a bit)
(5) Elorin: (meanwhile)
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Tongues ( level 4, "Speak any language" )
(4) Kaylin: (I need to go lawnmower shopping)
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 5 Spell ( level 5, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Tongues ( level 4, "Speak any language" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 5 Spell ( level 5, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(4) Kaylin: (back in some amount of time)
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Tongues ( level 4, "Speak any language" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 5 Spell ( level 5, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Tongues ( level 4, "Speak any language" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Elorin: (that's 3 extended, one not)
(2) GM: So everyone's in the loop except Jason? Fair enough.
(5) Elorin: [1d4] -> [1] = (1)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Bye for now.)
(5) Elorin: (Eldon get's the non-extended)
(2) GM: Hope to see you again soon.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Talking to Violist.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (4) Kaylin: (I need to go lawnmower shopping)

(4) Kaylin: (thanks, I'll work as efficiently as possible)
(1) Kibin: (And at the center...)
(2) GM: So, you're in a room, identical to all the others, with a glowy, color changing portal in the floor, eight passages with letters over them with walls, floor, and cieling made out of some odd material that gives the impression of being totally transparent yet shows no image.
(1) Kibin: (Is the glowy color changing portal any different?)
(1) Kibin: (I don't quite remember the other portals being color changing.)
(2) GM: Maybe slightly colder.
** (1) Kibin asks Jason, "Could you check what's in that portal?" **
(2) GM: Jason: Sure.....
(2) GM: Jason hops through the portal in the floor.
whispering to GM, [1d100] -> [82] = (82)
** (1) Kibin waits. **
(1) Kibin: (*pokes the GM*)
(1) Kibin: (Hello?)
(2) GM: A few moments later, he walks back out.
(2) GM: Jason: Strange place; black ice with red streaks, people frozen into the ground, some odd black palace a little ways off in the distance.
(1) Kibin: Hmmmm.
(1) Kibin: Kaylin, you ever heard about that place?
(2) GM: Jason: Seems dark.
(5) Elorin: Huh, doesn't sound like what I'd have expected from the gnomes' home. Come to think of it, we never did ask any of them what they were supposed to do after finding the center.
(1) Kibin: (Oh yeah, Kaylin is away.)
(2) GM: Knowledge: The Planes Skill Check: [1d20+16] -> [13,16] = (29)
(2) GM: Kaylin: Don't want to go there. That would be Agathys, and the Necromanteion. Part of Carceri. It's a prision plane, for the most part.
(1) Kibin: Ah.
(1) Kibin: Maybe Jason didn't count right or something...
(5) Elorin: That, or we need to capture someone and ask what their instructions for after getting lost said to do after finding the center.
(1) Kibin: That, or we're not in the center.
(1) Kibin: (Oh yeah. Did you know that flying creatures can be tripped?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Nope)
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot tries to figure out how to navigate this place. **
(2) GM: (What happens when they lose? No ground to fall prone on.....)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [13,8] = (21)
(1) Kibin: (They fall 150 feet. Then it's a DC 20 reflex save to come out of the stall, or they fall another 300 feet.)
(5) Elorin: (brb, he should have the right food this time)
(1) Kibin: (It's somewhere on the official wizards of the coast website.)
(1) Kibin: (And still trying to find something on the web that clarifies that keen senses ability for you. :P)
** (1) Kibin walks back to the home portal... **
(2) GM: Route?
(1) Kibin: (Same one we used when walking?)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, You're not sure, but you think someone may have lost track on the L-R line at some point.
(1) Kibin: (Except in reverse.)
(2) GM: Jason follows the seemingly dejected Kibin.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "I'm not sure, but I think someone may have lost track on the L-R line at some point."
(1) Kibin: What do you mean?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (I dunno, ask the GM. That's what he PM'd me.)
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot explains. **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Cause I don't have a clue)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eldon is teh smarter than me.)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Basically, try checking it again.....
(1) Kibin: (Yes, GM, explain to us.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot (whispering): Try checking what again?
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Your position on the L-R line.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ah. As part of that explaination, we should check out position on the L-R line. Eldon would have explained that, methinks.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Since he was here for those sessions.)
** (1) Kibin goes back to what SHOULD be the center, and asks Jason, "Can you do that?" **
(2) GM: Jason: Oh, sure........
(2) GM: Int check: [1d20+2] -> [1,2] = (3)
(1) Kibin: (*growls at the low int checks*)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Uh-oh...)
whispering to GM, [2d3] -> [2,2] = (4)
(1) Kibin: (Oh comeon, Jason is above normal intelligence. It's not that hard.)
(5) Elorin: (why does this even need a roll?)
(2) GM: Eventually, jason returns.
(2) GM: I count four to the L, six to the R from here.
** (1) Kibin hmmms, thinking. **
** (1) Kibin goes through the R, then. **
whispering to GM, [1d100] -> [44] = (44)
(2) GM: And the room is empty, but otherwise identical to the rest.
(1) Kibin: Jason, could you poke your head in that portal again?
(2) GM: Jason: Sure......
(2) GM: Jason steps through the portal.
(1) Kibin: (What books do you have, anyway?)
(2) GM: A moment later, he returns..... followed by two of the metallic beasts. Roll for initiative.
(2) GM: [1d20+3] -> [8,3] = (11), [1d20+3] -> [15,3] = (18)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [15,3] = (18)
(2) GM: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [13,5] = (18)
(1) Kibin: (Hmmm, a variant that replaces initiative checks by reflex saves.)
(5) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [18,6] = (24)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+6] -> [9,6] = (15)
(2) GM: Wow, a three way tie;
(2) GM: Kibin?
(2) GM: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [18,5] = (23)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [20,3] = (23)
(2) GM: [1d20+3] -> [8,3] = (11)
(1) Kibin: (Can I go ahead and go first because of the natural 20? :P)
(2) GM: Umm... sure... that's just getting spooky.....
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hey, the chance of any roll on the die versus any other roll on the die is 50/50.)
(1) Kibin: (On a Champions game, a dex tieoff went on for three rolls, before they got different results in the fourth.)
(2) GM: Elorin, Kibin, Jason, Beast 2, Eldon, Beast 1; Kaylin when her player returns.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (So the chance for rolling a 20 is 50/50. :D )
(1) Kibin: (I think your intelligence-boosting magical items went bad.)
(2) GM: Jason is just on your side of the floor portal, the two metal beasts are on the other side; the portal is about 20 feet away, the beasts 25, Jason 15.
(1) Kibin: (We could just use miniatures.)
(1) Kibin: (*pokes Elorin*)
** (5) Elorin attempts to talk them into letting us through peacefully, but doesn't have much hope of it succeeding **
(5) Elorin: Hello, we're here to speak with your leaders, peacefully by preference.
(2) GM: Diplomacy check?
(5) Elorin: Diplomacy Skill Check: [1d20+4] -> [7,4] = (11)
(2) GM: Kibin? Your turn.
(1) Kibin: (Where am I on that map?)
(2) GM: Oh, somewhere down at the bottom of my poorly drawn circle.
(1) Kibin: (Ah, okay.)
(2) GM: Got a mini?
(1) Kibin: (I should really be able to use combat expertise in a combat situation where I'm not attacking...)
(1) Kibin: Not really.
(1) Kibin: ()
(1) Kibin: (Gah! :P)
(1) Kibin: (AHHA!)
(2) GM: Annd.... Eldon? Mini?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ah.)
(1) Kibin: Heh. :P
(1) Kibin: (D&D miniature heaven!)
(2) GM: (They died?)
(2) GM: (Here I thought they were painted, not Dyed.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (There's not to many halfling images on yahoo that don't look silly.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (That'll work, thanks.)
(1) Kibin: (We could use these colored tokens.
(1) Kibin: (Tokens!)
(2) GM: (Courtesy of Wizards)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (I draw my sword and activate the flaming ability.)
(2) GM: Kibin - you doing anything?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (What would it cost to change the activation to a free action?)
(1) Kibin: (Unless I can sacrifice a whole round to use combat expertise for a +5 dodge AC bonus, no. Simply readying to attack one of the creatures if they attack back.)
(1) Kibin: (And beast 2 will be my target.)
(2) GM: (You can actually activate it outside combat, and even successfully sheath it while flaming, as it doesn't hurt your equipment. Really hard on stealth, though.)
(1) Kibin: (And it makes me nervous, too.)
(1) Kibin: (Fire + me = pain.)
(2) GM: And... Jason Delays.
(5) Elorin: (how about some diplomacy checks from people with actual ranks in it?)
(1) Kibin: (Oh, I can do that?)
(1) Kibin: (Ah, okay then.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ah. Didn't know I could sheath it on fire.)
** (1) Kibin says to the Beasts, "Yes, we wish to speak with your leaders to achieve a peaceful compromise, and will not attack unless you attack first..." **
(1) Kibin: Diplomacy Skill Check: [1d20+15] -> [4,15] = (19)
(2) GM: Beast eyes Elorin Readily, but doens't do much.... yet.
(1) Kibin: (And of course I make a poor roll. Meh.)
(2) GM: Beast 2, that is.
(1) Kibin: (Feel free to aid, however.)
(1) Kibin: (As even a +2 will make them unfriendly to us.)
(2) GM: Eldon's turn comes up now - was asking for the Mini, before, not your turn then....
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (In the interests of diplomacy, Eldon holds off on fire.)
(2) GM: (So... Draw and Nothing?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Diplomacy: [1d20+19] -> [11,19] = (30)
(2) GM: Ah, one-round rushed Diplomacy check.
(1) Kibin: (Or I could aid Eldon.)
(1) Kibin: (Which is nice.)
(2) GM: And beasts 1's turn.....
(2) GM: Beast 1, in a loud, crackling voice: Meh, still hate you... and I can always retreat through the floor portal......
(2) GM: The beast fires twice in rapid succession .... at the flying silver snake thing. [1d20+15] -> [15,15] = (30) for [10d6] -> [4,1,1,4,2,4,5,3,6,4] = (34) and [1d20+15] -> [15,15] = (30) for [10d6] -> [3,2,3,6,6,6,3,2,5,6] = (42)
(1) Kibin: (:(
(2) GM: So two hits for 76 damage, then.
(2) GM: Elorin?
(4) Kaylin: (back)
(2) GM: Roll for Initiative.
(1) Kibin: (Meh.)
(2) GM: And Kaylin finally follows....
(1) Kibin: ("I tried making a diplomacy check, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.")
(4) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [14,2] = (16)
(2) GM: That puts you just before Eldon in the next cycle. Meanwhile, Elorin's turn.
** (5) Elorin heals Kibin **
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Heal ( level 6, "Cures 10 points/level of damage, all diseases and mental conditions" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) GM: And beast 2 takes his readied action.... [1d20+15] -> [7,15] = (22) for [10d6] -> [6,5,1,1,4,4,3,1,1,3] = (29)
(2) GM: What's your touch AC?
(1) Kibin: (Mine? Way too little.)
(2) GM: Elorin's.
(5) Elorin: (not that high
(5) Elorin: Concentration Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [12,23] = (35)
(2) GM: Take 29 damage. DC 39, sorry, you lost the spell.
(1) Kibin: (:P)
(2) GM: Taking a move action after the pellet rips into your hide, leaving a small hole in your armor and spouting blood?
(1) Kibin: (Uhm.)
(2) GM: (Okay, so my grammar isn't perfect.....)
(5) Elorin: (um, the only move action that would do anything is to retreat. Are we already doing that?)
(1) Kibin: (And retreat is futile as they have rocket boosters.)
(2) GM: Your move action; up to you.
(5) Elorin: (no move action)
(2) GM: Kibin, your turn then.
(1) Kibin: (Oh, full round?)
(2) GM: Actually, Jason will take his Delayed action now...
(2) GM: Silent Image, 1: Creates minor illusion of your design (will save)
(1) Kibin: (Hmmm, power word kill goes through the armor just fine.)
(2) GM: Jason puts the illusion of an iron wall across the room, hiding Elorin, Kibin, Eldon, and Kaylin from sight.
(2) GM: Jason: Fake Wall!
(2) GM: Will saves, everyone?
(5) Elorin: Will save: [1d20+24] -> [16,24] = (40)
(2) GM: DC 22, +4 Circumstance.
(1) Kibin: (On another rules quirk, illusions only allow a will save if you have evidence that the wall is fake.
(1) Kibin: (Such as interacting with it.)
(1) Kibin: Will save: [1d20+13] -> [7,13] = (20)
(2) GM: (Examine it carefully, interact with it in some fasion; someone telling you it's an illusion grants you a +4 bonus.)
whispering to Kibin, Elorin, DC 22, +4 Circumstance - both those will pass.
(1) Kibin: (Yup.)
(4) Kaylin: Will save: [1d20+21] -> [16,21] = (37)
(2) GM: Eldon - Will save?
whispering to Kaylin, That's a pass.
(4) Kaylin: (Hmm... I need a +6 wis thing, so my will save will match Elorin's ;)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+10] -> [6,10] = (16)
(1) Kibin: (Did you know that apparently saves are supposed to be somewhere between 10 + half your ECL and 10 + your ECL?)
(1) Kibin: (So for a level 18 character, saves should be between 19 and 28, as a guideline.)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, You see a solid wall in front of you. You wonder where Jason picked up Wall of Iron.
(2) GM: Now it's your turn, Kibin.
(2) GM: Oh, and Kaylin - Mini? You should be just "south" of Kibin or Eldon.
** (1) Kibin thinks for a moment while the wall gives him time, thinking about the possible solution. He calls out from the wall where he's standing, "Would a surrender work?", and then limps over to the other side of Elorin silently, waiting a response. **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (...No...)
(2) GM: Kaylin, then.
** (4) Kaylin stares at Kibin and thinks he's crazy **
(5) Elorin: I don't think so
(4) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Shield ( level 1, "Invisible disc gives +4 to AC, blocks magic missiles." )
(2) GM: Moving?
** (4) Kaylin gets ready to run if necessary **
(4) Kaylin: (not yet)
(2) GM: Eldon's turn, then.
(1) Kibin: (Out of curiosity, what skill roll would be required for ventriloquism?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eldon turns on the flame.)
(2) GM: Slight of Hand would be the closest; course, that really only applies to the dummy on your knee...... I've met ventriliquists in real life - the sound still comes from them, if they are targetting by ear.
(1) Kibin: (Okay, throwing your voice.)
(2) GM: And you hear a few bangs.... [1d20+15] -> [8,15] = (23), [1d20+15] -> [3,15] = (18)
(2) GM: And everyone except Eldon sees two pellets slow to a halt in mid air, then drop.
(2) GM: (Jason has an insane touch AC.....)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (What does Eldon see?)
(1) Kibin: (What, is Jason Neo?)
(2) GM: A wall of iron seperating Jason from you.
(2) GM: (Ghost Charisma Defelction bonus, Peripat of Wisdom, Monk's Belt, Gauntlets of Dexterity....)
(1) Kibin: (I could use a monk's belt. Hmmm.)
(5) Elorin: (No, Jason just has a permanent Ring of Protection +10 from being a ghost and having high charisma)
(2) GM: Again, you hear two shots ring out... [1d20+15] -> [8,15] = (23), [1d20+15] -> [15,15] = (30)
(2) GM: One more pellet drops to the ground, and one slams into the wall behind Jason.
(5) Elorin: (right, so we've established Jason can take on pretty much any number of these things by himself, but they're absolutely deadly to normal party members)
(2) GM: [1d20+1] -> [1,1] = (2), [1d20+1] -> [16,1] = (17)
(2) GM: (And at the moment, they can't see you in a normal fasion.....)
(2) GM: Elorin?
(5) Elorin: (and, of course, they don't have a clue about the possibility of illusions, so they don't even suspect the wall might be fake :P)
(2) GM: (Kaylin can do very, very mean things to them once she picks up Shapechange.)
** (5) Elorin heals Kibin, this time successfully **
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Heal ( level 6, "Cures 10 points/level of damage, all diseases and mental conditions" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(1) Kibin: (Such as?)
(2) GM: (Become Incorporeal)
(1) Kibin: (Oh.)
(4) Kaylin: (*grin* Just let me get back on the Material plane...)
(5) Elorin: (Shapechange into a ghost, then cast spells without Jason's hit to caster level progression?)
(2) GM: (A shade, maybe - then reach through walls to deal Strength damage to the poor little strength 8 gnome inside......)
(5) Elorin: (lol)
(4) Kaylin: (lol)
(4) Kaylin: (OK, I'm so grabbing Shapechange equipment)
(2) GM: Jason continues to concentrate....
(2) GM: Kibin?
** (1) Kibin guesses that's a no on the surrendering thingie. **
(1) Kibin: (Delaying, I suppose.)
(2) GM: Kaylin?
(4) Kaylin: (for now, delay)
(2) GM: (oh, and Kibin - Elorin hit you with an All Better)
(5) Elorin: (brb)
(1) Kibin: (Okay.)
(2) GM: Eldon? Make a new save for watching the pellet pass through the wall. Jason's maintaining versimilitude with a small hole in the wall, but you saw the full effect of it hitting stone on the other side.
(2) GM: Also, your turn, Eldon.
(2) GM: Okay, my connection's working - you awake, Narf?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+10] -> [16,10] = (26)
** (1) Kibin wonders if supernatural abilities would affect it. **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Not really.)
** (1) Kibin hmmms, and dismisses that. **
(2) GM: And that would be a success. The full party can see through the illusionary wall, onow.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ok, hold action to attack when the party does.)
(2) GM: Beast one faces Elorin directly through the illusion, and looks ready for something....
(2) GM: Beast two shoots at Elorin. [1d20+15] -> [18,15] = (33) for [10d6] -> [2,1,2,4,4,3,5,1,4,5] = (31) and [1d20+15] -> [6,15] = (21) for [10d6] -> [1,5,1,5,2,3,6,1,4,2] = (30)
(2) GM: Touch AC?
(2) GM: Ah, he's away for the moment - Shooting Kibin, then
(5) Elorin: (can I have moved after healing?)
(1) Kibin: (Bah, everyone wants to shoot at me.)
(2) GM: Yes, although if you move out of the room, Kibin's next in line to have been targetted.
(5) Elorin: (wait, they're shooting accurately as if the wall isn't there?)
(2) GM: (Right)
(2) GM: (And they never successfully saved against it)
(2) GM: Kaylin - Knoweledge(Dungeoneering)?
(5) Elorin: (ack, damn advanced technological targetting systems that aren't fooled by illusions :( )
(5) Elorin: (anyway, both hit)
(4) Kaylin: Knowledge: Dungeoneering Skill Check: [1d20+13] -> [9,13] = (22)
(1) Kibin: (I have that too...)
(5) Elorin: (I'm down to 40 hp now)
(1) Kibin: (Wait, nevermind.)
whispering to Kaylin, You're not certain, but they would appear to have some amount of blindsense or blindsight, which would get through the Silent Image Jason put up, as Silent Image is visual only, and blindsense/blindsight work on nonvisual cues.
(2) GM: And it's your turn, Elorin.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hmm...Harm?)
(1) Kibin: (Two of those full round firing at once of us equals instant kill...)
(5) Elorin: (would trying to hide behind Jason help any?)
(2) GM: (And, due to circumstance, they are now right up next to each other in the initiative order; fortunately, they're using a different set of tactics.)
(1) Kibin: (You can hide inside of him for a cover bonus.)
(4) Kaylin: (If I became a shadow, say, and I killed a gnome, would it become a gnome shadow under my control even when I revert?)
(5) Elorin: (stand in his square to share his deflection bonus? :P)
(2) GM: (Doesn't quite work that way.....)
(1) Kibin: (Oh, and apparently I weight about 40 pounds. That's what the dragonimicon thingie says.)
(2) GM: (Yep, although that would be Evil, and people would hate you, and there's a very bad flaw in Shadow Chain armies.)
** (5) Elorin steps back into the other room and heals himself **
(4) Kaylin: (bwahahah. I won't then)
(5) Elorin: I'll be back in a moment
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Heal ( level 6, "Cures 10 points/level of damage, all diseases and mental conditions" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 7 Spell ( level 7, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Why a level 7 slot?)
(5) Elorin: (I'm all out of level 6)
(2) GM: Jason notices that the wall doesn't really help..... and sees about something slightly more real.
(2) GM: Shadow Evocation, 5th: Mimics evocation below 5th level, but only 20% real.
(1) Kibin: (By the way, how do you get those spell slot tracking devices?)
(2) GM: I imagine he edited the XML directly.
(5) Elorin: (I entered them as spells. Had to edit the xml to do it)
(1) Kibin: (Bah.)
(5) Elorin: (I have to click both the spell and the tracker, it's not automatic)
(2) GM: Duplicating a Wall of Ice over theillusionary one.
(2) GM: Kibin?
** (1) Kibin asks Jason in Common, "Any plans?" He scoots over 5 feet to the left. **
(2) GM: Unfortunately, there's now a semi-real wall in the way, that blocks the sound.
** (1) Kibin hmmms, forgot about the wall. **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hmm...I wonder if a feat could give continues uses of a spell...)
(1) Kibin: (What do you mean?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Continues casting of a one-bolt magic missile?)
(1) Kibin: (Hmmm.)
(5) Elorin: (There's an Innate Spell feat in Complete Arcane, I think, that lets you cast a spell at will)
(2) GM: (If you're already a spellcaster, and care to permenently expend a spell slot six levels over and above the one you want to cast at will, sure; course, that would continue to come at your caster level as a spell-like ability.)
(5) Elorin: (You have to permanently sacrifice a spell slot 8 levels higher, though)
(1) Kibin: (Oh, did you know Complete Arcane has tattooed spellbooks? I thought that was neat.)
(2) GM: (Was it 8? Don't remember off the top of my head - but then, I'm also looking at an old 3.0 copy of Tome and Blood, so....)
(5) Elorin: (just checked, it's 8)
(5) Elorin: (so Magic Missile at will costs a 9th level spell slot)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Huh. Must have missed that.)
(5) Elorin: (and requires Quicken, Silent, and Still Spell as prereqs)
(1) Kibin: (Heh, there's also rules for non-lethal matches.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Magic missile at five missiles per shot?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yep. One percent chance of lethal.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (If I remember right.)
(1) Kibin: (No death effects, melee attack rolls are non-lethal at a -4 to hit, any spells with an energy, force, or shadow descriptor are automatically pulled doing only half normal damage...)
(2) GM: If Kibin isn't doing anything else, Kaylin's up again.
(1) Kibin: (And one percent chance of doing full damage instead of half damage.)
(1) Kibin: (Aside from 5 foot step to the left, nothing much.)
(5) Elorin: (huh, it doesn't actually say, but I'd think it would be at your caster level in the class that the sacrificed spell slot came from)
(1) Kibin: (Spells that create an incapacitating situation such as sleep results in a win for the person still standing.)
(2) GM: ("...permanently prepare one of you spell slots..." or roughly that wording? Your caster level, even if changed from such things as an Ioun Stone.)
(1) Kibin: (Spells that incapacitate but allow a save each round like hold person don't end them match.)
(2) GM: Anyway - Kaylin, your turn.
(1) Kibin: (Oh, they also have effigies, which are basically robotic creautures.)
** (4) Kaylin takes a 5-foot step as quietly as possible and then delay **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (A continues caster class might be interesting.)
(4) Kaylin: (I missed the pre-battle stuff, what are we doing here?)
(2) GM: (Ah, you mean like the Warlock?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Unless that's the warlock. Can't remember seeing an 'Energy blast per day' listing.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (But the warlock is mostly for evil players.)
(1) Kibin: (There's a regenerate magicka variant, where you can use all prepared spells once every so often.)
(2) GM: Think we found the center now - Jason stepped through the portal, and two beasties followed him back through.
(2) GM: (Look again - Chaotic OR Evil, not both - so LE, NE, CE, CN, CG are all possibilities - sure, some of the abilities have the Evil descriptor, but you can avoid those readily enough)
(1) Kibin: (Oh, I also have a bunch of rules on guarding spellbooks.)
(2) GM: Elorin found out the hard way that they know how to disrupt spellcasting.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Could also re-write the warlock so the abilities are chaos-based, not evil-based.)
(1) Kibin: (Resistant to energy, glamered, pungent, levitating, waterproof, spelltrapped...)
(2) GM: Kaylin?
(1) Kibin: (Oh, there's also geomancers, which use geometrical figures to cast spells. At a certain level, all spells they write in their book take only 1 page to write.)
(4) Kaylin: (I already went... 5-foot step and delay)
(2) GM: (Sepia Snake Sigils, Symbols of Death, Alarm spells....)
(2) GM: Ah, missed that - Eldon?
(1) Kibin: (Any magical trap that can be placed in a dungeon...)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (http://www.giantitp.com/cgi-bin/GiantITP/ootscript?SK=306)
(1) Kibin: (Or rather, any suitable spell for a trap.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hold action to attack as soon as they successfully attack.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Successfully attack a party member, that is.)
(2) GM: Delay, Ready a partial charge?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Uh...Sure?)
(2) GM: Delay, you go when you choose, but after the event that caused you to want to, and get a full round to play with; Ready, you specify a triggering event, and go just before/during the event, putting you just ahead of the person who's turn it was, but only gets you a standard action.
(1) Kibin: (One of my favorite is a automatic reset disintergrate. :D)
(2) GM: Delay, you also get to pick whetever you want to do when you do it, ready you select in advance.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Delay)
(1) Kibin: (Of course, takes 36,000 HP, and costs 2880 XP to create...)
(2) GM: HP? Don't you mean GP? Beast 1's turn......
(1) Kibin: (But who cares when anyone touching your spellbook gets targetted by a disintergrate? :D)
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, I mean GP.)
(1) Kibin: (Still fun.)
(2) GM: Beast 1 attempts to smash the wall in his way.....
(1) Kibin: (And funny. You wake up and find a pile of dust on you. :D)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Or a good-based spontaneious spellcaster...Auto-heal effect, buffs...)
(2) GM: [1d10+11] -> [3,11] = (14)
(1) Kibin: (Of course, would probally be noisy.)
(2) GM: [3*15/5] -> 9
(2) GM: And he breaches it in one blow.
** (1) Kibin asks Elorin, "So, do you have any OTHER plans to talk with their leader?" **
(4) Kaylin: I say we get out of here.
(2) GM: Beast two hustles around and takes a shot at Kibin.
(2) GM: Ah, Eldon is the one he has a clear shot at... [1d20+15] -> [16,15] = (31) for [10d6] -> [3,2,3,5,2,3,6,4,2,2] = (32)
(1) Kibin: (It would be a lot nicer if it was 1d20+10 instead of 1d20+15...)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ouch.)
(2) GM: Oh, Eldon - touch AC?
(1) Kibin: (Have you ever tried to hit a moving target with rotary autocannons on Mechwarriors 4? :P)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (20 - 22 with both dodge bonuses)
(2) GM: Average on 10d6 would be 35; that was a slightly low damage shot.
(2) GM: Eldon takes 32 points of damage as a very loud bang puts a small but deep hole in him.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (About what would be appropriate for a heal-per-level for a good-based spontanieous caster?)
(2) GM: Jason: Well, so much for thaat.....
(2) GM: Jason steps into the closest Beast, or tries, anyway. [1d20+1] -> [12,1] = (13)
(2) GM: And succeeds.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (I get an auto-action from delay)
(2) GM: Ah, right - you go before Jason, as it was the Beast you were waiting for.
(1) Kibin: (Hmmm.)
(1) Kibin: (By the rules, you can't charge.)
(2) GM: Ah, and forgot Elorin's turn, too......
(1) Kibin: (The closest avaliable space is occupied by the portal.)
(2) GM: (On a delay, he can....)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Would I see Jason heading for the beast?)
(2) GM: Sure; ad-hock simultaneity
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Can I attack the other one?)
(1) Kibin: (I'd like to take my delayed action now too.)
(2) GM: That would require going through one of 1's squares. Sorry, no.
(2) GM: Just after Eldon.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (What about if I run around the portal?)
(2) GM: Wall of Ice in the way. Not a real wall, mind, but still solid.
(5) Elorin: (By my reading, Jason can take a move action in the same round as he uses Malevolence, so Eldon could 5-ft step and full attack Beast 1 and Jason could redirect himself to take over the undamaged one)
(1) Kibin: (I thought it was broken through?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ah. Small hole. Ok, I ready an action to attack if Jason doesn't successfully posses the pilot.)
(5) Elorin: (why not just attack and let Jason take the other one?)
(1) Kibin: (Oh, a hole. Meh.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Or Elorins suggestion?)
(2) GM: It's by square.
(2) GM: yeah, that works.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ok, I attack #1)
(2) GM: Make your attack Vs. Beast 1, and Jason takes down 2.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Rapier, Flaming: [1d20+26] -> [20,26] = (46), [1d20+21] -> [1,21] = (22), [1d20+16] -> [20,16] = (36), [1d20+11] -> [1,11] = (12), Damage: [1d4+2d6+2d6+1d6+2+8+5] -> [3,4,6,5,5,2,2,8,5] = (40), [1d4+2d6+2d6+1d6+2+8+5] -> [3,4,6,2,1,4,2,8,5] = (35), [1d4+2d6+2d6+2+8+5] -> [2,4,3,4,4,2,8,5] = (32), [1d4+2d6+2d6+1d6+2+8+5] -> [3,3,1,2,6,5,2,8,5] = (35)
(2) GM: For that matter, you can 5-foot and full attack....
(5) Elorin: (wow, two crit threats :D)
(1) Kibin: (Remind me to never get on Eldon's bad side.)
(2) GM: Roll to confirm crits.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (LOL - 2 crits, 2 1's.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+26] -> [8,26] = (34)
(1) Kibin: (And Eldon, you could have waited until I gone in order to give me an extra attack.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+16] -> [11,16] = (27)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Didn't know that - How?)
(5) Elorin: (Opportunist: he gets an AoO whenever an ally hits an enemy that's in his reach)
(2) GM: AC 30; two hits, one crit; roll extra damage (flaming, et cetera doesn't qualify)
(1) Kibin: (Whenever a creature is hit in melee, they threatened an AoO from me.)
(5) Elorin: (bonus damage dice don't multiply, constant bonuses do)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d4+2d6+2+8+5] -> [3,2,5,2,8,5] = (25)
(2) GM: [40-8+32-8] -> 56
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Does Precise Strike count?)
(2) GM: (Oh, that's particularly good.....)
(2) GM: Aaand Kibin?
(5) Elorin: (If you're dividing it up based on precision damage going towards opening the darn thing, I'd think the 2d6 from Precise Strike would go towards that as well as the +8 from the Swashbuckler ability)
** (1) Kibin runs up to beast one, biting it on one of the various seams throughout it's body. **
(1) Kibin: Bite (base): [1d20+29] -> [1,29] = (30) ===> Damage: [1d6+6] -> [1,6] = (7)
(1) Kibin: [8d6] -> [6,4,4,5,3,2,6,6] = (36)
(1) Kibin: (Wow, a 29? That can't be right...)
(1) Kibin: (And no ,it's not right. Ooopsy.)
(1) Kibin: (Hmmmm.)
(5) Elorin: (doesn't matter, you rolled a 1)
(1) Kibin: (Oh, still had the misc bonus there.)
whispering to Elorin, You feel something pop when you find a little seam to strike...
(2) GM: Kibin misses wildly.
(2) GM: Elorin?
(5) Elorin (whispering): I think you whispered to the wrong person
whispering to Elorin, So I did. Oops.
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, You feel something pop when you find a little seam to strike...
** (5) Elorin steps back from the other room and shoots at Beast 1 **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot (whispering): Can I do an int check on that?
(5) Elorin: (do I get a full attack, or does the door/hallway require moving more than 5 feet?
(2) GM: Oh, you can get your full attack.
(1) Kibin: (Ouch, 54,000 gold for a single continous tounges effect.)
(2) GM: Soft cover, though; got Precise Strike?
(5) Elorin: (activating Haste, then)
(5) Elorin: (yes)
(5) Elorin: +1 Holy Composite Longbow (+2 Str) (Rapid Shot) (Point Blank) (attack 1+2) Attack Roll: [1d20+32] -> [1,32] = (33)===> DMG: [1d8+2d6+17+0] -> [1,5,4,17,0] = (27)

(5) Elorin: (adamantine arrows, of course)
(1) Kibin: (Only 24,000 gold if a bard does it, though. Hmmm.)
(2) GM: Let's two misses [27-9-4+29-8-4+31-7-4] -> 51
(2) GM: Beast 1?
(5) Elorin: (yes)
(1) Kibin: (Uh, Elorin, don't you have to 5 foot step diagonally to get a shot at it?)
(2) GM: And three of your arrows dig deepy into the beasts's metallic hide; a few sparks come out of the holes, but it keeps moving just fine.
(2) GM: And Jason steps into beast 2.... [1d20+1] -> [18,1] = (19)
(1) Kibin: (I meant downward one. :P)
(1) Kibin: (Down and to the right.)
(2) GM: Kaylin?
(2) GM: (He gets to pick which corner he shoots at.....)
(4) Kaylin: (not much I can do... how far away am I from beast 1? about 20 feet?)
(2) GM: About that.
(4) Kaylin: (move in and take a hit then...)
(1) Kibin: (They would shoot at you why?_
(4) Kaylin: Unarmed Hit (Monk's Belt) Attack Roll: [1d20+7] -> [16,7] = (23) ===> Damage: [1d8-1] -> [8,-1] = (7)

(1) Kibin: (Lol. :P)
(4) Kaylin: (I need to get me an enchanted quarterstaff ;)
(2) GM: Both blows bounce off the thing's metallic hide.
(4) Kaylin: (or even better, a crossbow...)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (What happened to her spells?)
(1) Kibin: (o.o)
(4) Kaylin: (apparently these things are impervious to magic)
(2) GM: Beast 1's turn......
(5) Elorin: (Summon Monster still works...)
(2) GM: Takes a few swings at Kibin.
(4) Kaylin: (we haven't had a chance to prepare spells since we arrived)
(5) Elorin: (hmm, we need a metamagic feat that lets Line of Effect skip walls)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ah.)
(2) GM: Slams: [1d20+27] -> [1,27] = (28) for [2d10+11] -> [8,1,11] = (20) and [1d20+27] -> [13,27] = (40) for [2d10+11] -> [4,9,11] = (24)
(1) Kibin: (Power words don't care about line of effect, I believe.)
(1) Kibin: (Against who?)
(5) Elorin: (yes they do. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, ALL spells require line of effect to their target)
(2) GM: Kibin - that's probably "swish swish", I imagine.)
(1) Kibin: (What?)
(5) Elorin: (no, I think the 40 probably hits)
(2) GM: Ah, your AC less than 40, then? Cool. One hit, 24 damage.
(2) GM: Kibin reels as the beast slams one of it's oversized arms into him.
(2) GM: (But it feels a lot better, comparitively, than those little pellets do!)
(1) Kibin: (AC is 27.)
(1) Kibin: (37 I mean. :P)
(1) Kibin: (38 with the dodge bonus, which is in effect against Beast 1 since I'm attacking it...)
(2) GM: (Power Words require line of effect - however, they don't require that the target be able to hear anything.)
(2) GM: So one hit, then.
(2) GM: And back around to Eldon.
(1) Kibin: (Ah, okay.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot (whispering): Can I do an int check for weaknesses?
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Sure, make an Int check....
(1) Kibin: (Now I need to wait for an enchantment effect on me. :(
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [15,8] = (23)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Seems there's something you can push around on the other side of the seams, although Kibin seems a bit better at it; can't tell if it's having much of an effect or not, but it's something.
(1) Kibin: (Eldon?)
(1) Kibin: (Attack?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Rapier, Flaming: [1d20+26] -> [15,26] = (41), [1d20+21] -> [18,21] = (39), [1d20+16] -> [9,16] = (25), [1d20+11] -> [15,11] = (26), Damage: [1d4+2d6+2d6+1d6+2+8+5] -> [1,5,4,3,2,1,2,8,5] = (31), [1d4+2d6+2d6+1d6+2+8+5] -> [1,3,4,3,3,5,2,8,5] = (34), [1d4+2d6+2d6+2+8+5] -> [3,5,2,5,5,2,8,5] = (35), [1d4+2d6+2d6+1d6+2+8+5] -> [3,2,3,2,3,5,2,8,5] = (33)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot (whispering): Trying to hit those things in the seams.
(5) Elorin: (I don't suppose it's keen or you have Improved Crit?)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, No called shots; covered by Insightful and Precise Strike
(1) Kibin: Bite (base): [1d20+24] -> [16,24] = (40) ===> Damage: [1d6+6] -> [1,6] = (7)
(1) Kibin: [8d6] -> [5,1,3,2,3,3,4,2] = (23)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Nope)
(5) Elorin: (oh well, just one crit threat then)
(1) Kibin: (By my calculations... An 8 or over for me will hit, for any of my natural weapons.)
(5) Elorin: (with Keen, those two 15's would also be crit threats)
(1) Kibin: (Uh. How?)
(2) GM: AC 30; two hits - [31-8-9+34-8-7] -> 33
(1) Kibin: (It would be a 16-20 a critical hit. Not 15-20.)
(1) Kibin: (Oh wait, rapier has a crit range of 18-20 doesn't it.)
(1) Kibin: (Yup.)
(2) GM: And Kibin hits, but his blow scrapes off the things tough plate.
(1) Kibin: (So a 14-20 threat range if keen.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (It does? I have a hard time keeping track of those annoying little details.)
whispering to Kibin, Except for a little itty bitty seam....
(1) Kibin (whispering): Yay precision damage!
(2) GM: Kibin's turn.
** (1) Kibin does a full attack against the machine. **
(1) Kibin: Bite (base): [1d20+24] -> [4,24] = (28) ===> Damage: [1d6+6] -> [2,6] = (8)
(1) Kibin: Claws (base): [1d20+22] -> [3,22] = (25) ===> Damage: [1d4+5] -> [1,5] = (6)
(1) Kibin: Claws (base): [1d20+22] -> [12,22] = (34) ===> Damage: [1d4+5] -> [1,5] = (6)
(1) Kibin: (Dice, why have you failed me!)
(1) Kibin: [8d6] -> [2,3,6,3,1,3,4,6] = (28)
(2) GM: Kibin's bite and first claw bounces off the thing's completely, and other claw doesn't even scratch the plating.....
whispering to Kibin, But you do pop a seam....
(2) GM: And for some bizzare reason, the back of beast 1 opens up, and a gnome falls out.
(2) GM: Elorin?
(1) Kibin: (I can move through an incapacitated monster's space just like an allies space, right?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Gnome-In-The-Bot!)
(1) Kibin: (And I forgot about kobolds racial tendencies towards gnomes this whole time. Ooopsy.)
** (5) Elorin walks over to the gnome and tells him not to move, threatening with his bow (readied attack with a normal arrow) **
(2) GM: Sure. It's about as dangerous as a stone statue.
(2) GM: But it's Kaylin's turn at the moment.
(2) GM: Jason's turn, sorry....
(2) GM: Jason doesn't have much to do, really. Umm....
(2) GM: Int check: [1d20+2] -> [1,2] = (3)
(1) Kibin: (Okay then, so Beast 2 gets cover against any attacks from Elorin if he doesn't move.)
(5) Elorin: (Dimension Door the other gnome out?)
(2) GM: And nothing much happens.
(2) GM: Kaylin?
(5) Elorin: (brb)
(1) Kibin: (Ooo, I wonder what a coup de grace on one of these monsters would do.)
(2) GM: Kaylin? Doing anything?
(1) Kibin: (MY IDEA! For next turn.)
** (4) Kaylin retreats behind the wall **
(2) GM: And... the gnome makes a break for the beast.......
(2) GM: Elorin takes his shot...
(2) GM: +1 Holy Composite Longbow (+2 Str) (Point Blank) (attack 1) Attack Roll: [1d20+33] -> [20,33] = (53)===> DMG: [1d8+2d6+17+0] -> [8,4,5,17,0] = (34)
(1) Kibin: (Beast 2 was the leader guy, I hope.)
(1) Kibin: (Ouch. Critical.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Crit...)
(2) GM: +1 Holy Composite Longbow (+2 Str) (Point Blank) (attack 1) Attack Roll: [1d20+33] -> [7,33] = (40)===> DMG: [1d8+2d6+17+0] -> [6,5,6,17,0] = (34)
(1) Kibin: (Ouch. Megacritical.)
(5) Elorin: (back)
** (5) Elorin thinks the gnome is dead **
(2) GM: And confirms. And places an arrow directly through the gnomes skull. All the way through. He's very, very dead.
(1) Kibin: (6 times the normal HP for a level 1 person...)
(5) Elorin: (bows are x3, btw)
(2) GM: +1 Holy Composite Longbow (+2 Str) (Point Blank) (attack 1) Attack Roll: [1d20+33] -> [15,33] = (48)===> DMG: [1d8+2d6+17+0] -> [1,5,5,17,0] = (28)
(1) Kibin: (Oookay.)
(2) GM: Exceptionally dead.
(5) Elorin: (very very very dead)
** (1) Kibin says to Elorin, "You know, you could have just held him in place..." **
(5) Elorin: (if an arrow were capable of such a thing, I suspect he'd be a bloody smear :P)
(4) Kaylin: I prefer that method
(1) Kibin: (It could go through his intestines and pull them out.)
(2) GM: The arrow continues sailing through, and falls into the portal.
(1) Kibin: Uh.
(5) Elorin: (uh, I wouldn't have been aiming in that direction)
(1) Kibin: (Is it my turn yet? :P)
(4) Kaylin: (shush, it's cool :D)
(2) GM: Eldon's turn.
(5) Elorin: (hmm, I suppose I could have used Command instead, but oh well)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Don't suppose I can reach Beast 2 with a five-foot step?)
(2) GM: No. Move action. Charge possible.
(2) GM: Sorry, no charge possible - stuff in way.
(5) Elorin: Jason, did you see any more of these on the other side of the portal?
(2) GM: Int check: [1d20+2] -> [4,2] = (6)
(2) GM: You can't hear Jason's response.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ok, so I move and attack.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Rapier, Flaming: [1d20+26] -> [15,26] = (41), [1d20+21] -> [3,21] = (24), [1d20+16] -> [15,16] = (31), [1d20+11] -> [12,11] = (23), Damage: [1d4+2d6+2d6+1d6+2+8+5] -> [4,1,1,6,4,4,2,8,5] = (35), [1d4+2d6+2d6+1d6+2+8+5] -> [4,4,6,6,5,6,2,8,5] = (46), [1d4+2d6+2d6+2+8+5] -> [2,2,1,4,4,2,8,5] = (28), [1d4+2d6+2d6+1d6+2+8+5] -> [3,1,1,6,2,3,2,8,5] = (31)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Need to include one-attack versions...)
(1) Kibin: Hey Jason, you might want to try that dimension door trick..
(1) Kibin: (My turn? :)
(2) GM: Hit; [35-8-2] -> 25
(2) GM: Yep.
** (1) Kibin goes see while the beast is just sitting there doing nothing, if he can bite some critical spot or something... **
(1) Kibin: (Coup de grace on it.)
(1) Kibin: (Beast 1, that is.)\
(1) Kibin: (Just seeing if it's coup de graceable. : )
(2) GM: The door on the back of beast one is open; you can see an oddly udulating plane of blackness through the door, much like what you'd expect on a pond, but somehow vertical.
(2) GM: Meh, out of combat time. Roll for damage.
(1) Kibin: Bite (base): [1d20+24] -> [6,24] = (30) ===> Damage: [1d6+6] -> [4,6] = (10)
(1) Kibin: Bite (base): [1d20+24] -> [2,24] = (26) ===> Damage: [1d6+6] -> [2,6] = (8)
(1) Kibin: [8d6] -> [5,6,2,5,1,1,4,3] = (27)
(2) GM: Kibin lands his bite into a seam, but doesn't seem to have any effect.
whispering to Kibin, You do, however, feel something pop under your teeth.....
(5) Elorin: Jason, how about Dimension Dooring out of that thing?
(2) GM: Int check: [1d20+2] -> [18,2] = (20)
** (5) Elorin heals Kibin **
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Serious Wounds ( level 3, "Cures 3d8 damage +1/level (max +15)" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 3 Spell ( level 3, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Elorin: [3d8+15] -> [1,3,8,15] = (27)
(5) Elorin: (how much was Eldon hurt, again?)
(2) GM: You hear a crackly voice: "I was thinking maybe you could open it, and we could see if Eldon can figure out how to work this monster"
** (1) Kibin hmmms, and goes over to the mech Jason is in and works on it. **
(2) GM: Crackly Voice: Wait ... can you hear me? You didn't the first couple of times... wonder if that did what I hoped? Hmm.....
** (1) Kibin takes out his tools, and gets to work on trying to open the odd contraption at that door. **
(5) Elorin: Hmm, we have been wanting to do that but kept getting interrupted by more of them, but that ore hauler said something that I think meant their remote communication systems don't work here.
(1) Kibin: (And the check I must do is...)
(2) GM: Open Lock, or the way you got the other open.
(1) Kibin: Open Lock Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [12,21] = (33)
(1) Kibin: (But that other way makes it so you can't close it again.)
(2) GM: DC 40.
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot studies the beasts. **
(5) Elorin: So, while we try to get it open, what did you see through the portal besides these two?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (How many Int checks?)
** (1) Kibin fiddles with it some more. **
(1) Kibin: Open Lock Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [11,21] = (32)
(1) Kibin: Open Lock Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [15,21] = (36)
(1) Kibin: Open Lock Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [19,21] = (40)
(1) Kibin: Open Lock Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [5,21] = (26)
(1) Kibin: (Oh, 19 does it. Cool.)
(2) GM: (Once inside, it's *per action*)
** (1) Kibin gets it open after a little more than a minute. **
(2) GM: And after a bit of work, Kibin opens the thing up, and a Gnome falls out.
(5) Elorin: (and how much healing does Eldon need?)
(1) Kibin: (32.)
(2) GM: Again there's a wavering black plane inside the door.
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Critical Wounds ( level 4, "Cures 4d8 damage +1/level (max +20)" )
(5) Elorin: [4d8+18] -> [8,4,5,5,18] = (40)
(2) GM: The Gnome dusts himself off, and stands up.
(2) GM: Gnome: So, what next?
(1) Kibin: Okay, Eldon, all you have to do is touch that black plane thingie, and it drags you in it seems...
(5) Elorin: (Jason still hasn't answered my question)
(1) Kibin: And don't try to make a thumbs up signal.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Thanks.
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot touches the black plane. **
(1) Kibin: Or point that gun at any of us except Jason.
(2) GM: Reflex save?
(1) Kibin: (Wait, we don't know it's a gun. Hmmm.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Nah.)
(2) GM: The black goo grabs Eldon and yanks him inside, shutting the door tight behind.
(2) GM: Which beast? Damaged one, or not damaged one?
(1) Kibin: (I opened up not damaged one.)
(2) GM: Well, both are damaged, just one considerably more than the other....
(1) Kibin: (I opened up beast 2, then.)
(1) Kibin: (Which never suffered a single attack, if I remember correcltly.)
(2) GM: Eldon hit it, and the Flaming ignored DR.
(1) Kibin: (Oh. Why'd he have to do that.)
(1) Kibin: (Hmmm.)
(1) Kibin: (*wonders if these things can be affected by cold.)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Inside, you find yourself placed into an odd contraption - you can see things in front of you, a screen of some kind, that has odd colors over everything. It's the view outside, however, and from a perspecitve you aren't used to. Much higher. Your hands are in some glove-like contraptions. It's silent.
(5) Elorin: (Jason still hasn't answered my question about what else was on the other side of the portal)
** (1) Kibin waits for Eldon to do something. **
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Taking inventory, you're fully encased - feet, head, toes - there seems to be a clear space around your nose, mouth, and eyes, permitting you to see and breath easily
(2) GM: GM Busy saying a few things.....
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [4,8] = (12)
(2) GM: Jason: Strange place; a very large room, made of metal, lots of these beasts standing with doors open, a handful walking around.
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, The thing seems to move with you.
(2) GM: Jason: The cieling must have been about thirty feet high, yet you could easily hold a game of rugby in there, and there weren't any pillars in the way.
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot practices small movements. **
(2) GM: Jason: two of them seem to have followed me back.
(2) GM: Beast 2 starts moving again....
(5) Elorin: I wonder how they'd react to us coming through with Eldon in there.
(2) GM: Jason: Little bit of a fall, though, for just stepping through; not too bad.
(1) Kibin: Eldon, can you try to find the communication switch thingie?
(2) GM: Jason: One way to find out....
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [11,8] = (19)
(2) GM: Jason: Hopefully, the outside talking thing is still active....
(5) Elorin: After giving him ample time to practice, of course.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Can you hear me now?"
(2) GM: Yep.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Sorry)
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot asks Jason for some clues on working this thing. **
(1) Kibin: Yup.
(1) Kibin: (Why can't you actually say what you're going to say instead of a generic action...)
(2) GM: Jason: Not sure, exactly; I wasn't particularly good at it; seems the extra symbols in your view change depending on how you move your fingers and toes. And of course, what it does seems to depend both on the symbols and what you do.... they seem to mean something...
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (I dunno.)
(1) Kibin: If you move your arm or leg, it seems to move the machine.
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot stands and faces away from the party. **
(5) Elorin: (I don't suppose Comprehend Languages would help at all?)
(2) GM: Which works just fine.
(2) GM: (You can be considered to be touching that writing, yes; I'd give it a bonus to the checks.)
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot moves various fingers and arms and observes the symbols and which part of the beast moves.) **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (I suppose generic actions cover more and are easier.)
(2) GM: trying to do something specific?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [13,8] = (21)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Just figure out what stuff means.)
(5) Elorin: If you can figure out how to get out of there, I could cast Comprehend Languages to help you understand the symbols.
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Came up with the rules for piloting these things several weeks ago - doesn't quite work that way.
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, When you want to fire the pellets, make an Int check. If you want to use it's extra senses, make an Int Check (actually, it's a Pilot Mech skill check, but Int based, and not a class skill for anybody other than those particular gnomes, so.......); different tasks have different DC's.
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot tries to fire a pellet. **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [6,8] = (14)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Nothing much happens.
(2) GM: Nothing much happens.
(1) Kibin: (Oh, on yet another subject, did you know that WOTC forgot to include a hitdie limit for the alternate form ability? : )
(2) GM: (Turn into a standard member of the race - good luck finding a 30 HD animal that's medium or smaller and in a source I have ready access to)
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot tries again **
(1) Kibin: (Hehe, I know.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [15,8] = (23)
(1) Kibin: (But still no hitdie limit. Hehe.)
(2) GM: A loud bang is heard.....
(1) Kibin: (Out of curiosity, what books do you have?)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Roll 1d20+15 for the attack, followed by 10d6 for damage.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+15] -> [5,15] = (20)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [10d6] -> [6,1,5,4,4,6,1,2,5,1] = (35)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Me? PHB, DMG, MM 1&2, CA, CAd, CW, D20 Modern.)
(1) Kibin: (Talking to GM.)
(2) GM: (Not many, mostly 3.0; 3.5 PHB, 3.0 PHB, 3.0 DMG, 3.0 Monster Manual, 3.0 Manual of the Planes, 3.0 Tome and Blood, 3.0 Song and Silence, 3.0 Sword and Fist, 3.0 Hero Builder's Guide, 3.0 Psionics Handbook, 3.5 SRD; 3.5 SRD eclipses most of them.....)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Target?
(1) Kibin: (Bah, not even the 3.5 monster manual? :P)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Not many?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Wall.
(2) GM: (Nope; Kinda low on money.....)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Wall)
(2) GM: (And most of those are borrowed)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ah.)
(2) GM: And you see the wall waver a bit, and a pellet falls to the ground.
(2) GM: Jason: So, Kibin - you want to try for the other one?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "That might not be a good idea...I wonder what would happen if the wall were breached..."
(1) Kibin: Uh, not very good in them.
(1) Kibin: (Did you remember to give Eldon 1d8 + 1 per caster level of cold damage?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Piloting seems to be mostly a matter of thinking things through."
(2) GM: Jason: Hay, Kaylin - can you shrink down or something? You won't fit as is....
(5) Elorin: (for free summaries of quite a lot of 3.5 material, you can use the Crystalkeep index)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eldon doesn't have a caster level...)
(2) GM: When and why did that happen?
(4) Kaylin: Apologies, Jason. At the moment I do not know the precise incantations necessary for those spels.
(1) Kibin: (Was that Jason?)
(2) GM: Jason: Of course.....
(2) GM: (No, as DM - when did he get hit with a blast of cold, and what from?)
(1) Kibin: (If the wall of ice is broken, then anyone moving through it get's cold damage no save.)
(1) Kibin: (For ice planes only.)
(2) GM: Ah, right..... Sorry all.... let's see.... so far, we have Kibin, Elorin, and Eldon through;
(1) Kibin: (Sorry, it's 1d6 + caster level.)
(2) GM: Caster level 14, so [1d6+14] -> [3,14] = (17) for Elorin, [1d6+14] -> [5,14] = (19) for Eldon.
(2) GM: Oh, and Will saves?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+10] -> [13,10] = (23)
(2) GM: Full damage to Eldon. take 19. Elorin?
(1) Kibin: (Don't really care about the will save, since it doesn't matter for me.)
(2) GM: Do make a save, though, even if it's mostly unimportant.
(1) Kibin: Will save: [1d20+13] -> [13,13] = (26)
(1) Kibin: (There. My save.)
whispering to Kibin, The wall isn't ice - it's shadow made to look like ice.....
(2) GM: Will save: [1d20+22] -> [12,22] = (34)
(2) GM: And Elorin takes only 1 point of damage.
(1) Kibin: (Uh, only one point?)
(2) GM: Right.
(2) GM: Ah, sorry - three. 20%, not 10.
(2) GM: Three points of damage.
(2) GM: Cold damage.
** (1) Kibin doesn't even notice the cold. **
(5) Elorin: Will save: [1d20+24] -> [15,24] = (39)
(2) GM: Success; take 3 points of cold damage.
whispering to Elorin, That's not a wall of ice; it's shadow made to look like ice. Not really as cold as it ought to be.
(5) Elorin: (cold resist 10, I don't notice it)
(2) GM: Though that was about right; Eldon's the only one hurt at all by that.
(2) GM: Jason: Oh, hey, as long as we're done, you mind dispelling that for me?
(5) Elorin: (and I healed him after he moved through for 8 more than he'd taken from other sources, so he's only got 11 damage)
(2) GM: Fair enough.
(2) GM: The little gnome Jason currently has possesion of points at the "ice wall"
(5) Elorin: Sure.
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Dispel Magic ( level 3, "Cancels spells and magical effects" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 3 Spell ( level 3, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Elorin: [1d20+10] -> [7,10] = (17)
(5) Elorin: Bah, why not just let the duration run out.
(1) Kibin: Seems like a fireball would make quick work of it.
(5) Elorin: Let's see, we now have one lightly damaged combat machine, another heavily damaged, and a lot of spells spent for today.
(2) GM: Jason: Sure, if you want to wait, what, another ten or fifteen minutes before getting Kaylin past. But then, we probably ought to rest up anyway..... what do I do with this guy?
(1) Kibin: What do you mean, wait ten to fifteen minutes?
(5) Elorin: That's how long an Ice Wall lasts
(2) GM: Jason: Not everyone can waltz through that quite as readily as you do.
(1) Kibin: Okay. And what's wrong with going through that hole in the wall?
(2) GM: The living and dead gnomes both are in the same green outfit, with some metal attachments of either brass or bronze along the collar and sleeves.
(2) GM: The dead gnome's outfit is quite bloody.
(4) Kaylin: (awh, no top brass yet?)
(5) Elorin: I'd suggest we retreat to a room they probably don't go through anywhere near as often as this one and rest, then come back with a plan tomorrow.
(5) Elorin: And have Eldon practice using that thing in the mean time.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "That sounds like a good idea. And let's clean this up, so they don't know we were here."
(4) Kaylin: I'd dearly love to be able to prepare different spells.
(2) GM: Jason: Maybe even spend the night on one of the connected planes.......
(2) GM: Jason: Still, though, that leaves the question of what to do with this guy.
(5) Elorin: Tie him up and see if he has any more information we could get from him?
(2) GM: Jason: Great; got a rope?
(1) Kibin: I could just freeze him in his tracks if he tries escaping. You know.
(5) Elorin: Yep. (I've 100 feet of rope minus however much it took to tie up the gnome we left behind in the mines)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Wouldn't Eldon add his attack bonus to attacks made with this?)
(5) Elorin: (automatic targetting system overrides the user's skill, I'd guess)
(5) Elorin: (otherwise they would truly SUCK, what with level 1 or 2 pilots)
(5) Elorin: (probably of NPC classes, too)
** (5) Elorin gets out his rope and starts tying up Jason's gnome **
(5) Elorin: Use Rope Skill Check: [1d20+6] -> [4,6] = (10)
(5) Elorin: (so, DC 22 escape artist if he tries to get out later)
(2) GM: Counts as heavy armor, you get to use class features, though - so Kibin's sneak attack, your precise strike, and the like apply, if they can be used in heavy armor.
(4) Kaylin: (brb)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Nope.)
(2) GM: After the gnome is all tied up, Jason steps out.
(1) Kibin: (Semi-afkish, making a character for another game.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Still, it is rather neat...)
(2) GM: Gnome: Wait - what happened? I was fighting some vermin, and one stepped into my (untranslatable), and then... I'm all tied up? What?
(2) GM: Jason: What's he saying?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "He's being rather confused because he's an orc."
(2) GM: Jason: Ah. Funny, I thought he was a gnome.....
(5) Elorin: Vermin, eh? I've never heard of any vermin that talk before.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "It's a matter of attitude. Theirs."
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Ooh, look. I've got your suit of armor. That makes you a vermin, doesn't it?"
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eldon does have a nasty side...)
(2) GM: Gnome: Well..... that's what we've been trained to treat invaders as...... doesn't always seem to apply..... wait, you can make it work?!
(5) Elorin: Yes, though figuring it out is a little difficult sometimes.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "You are the invaders."
(1) Kibin: Probally easy once you practice with it a while...
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Of course I can. I suspect my intelligence is greater than yours."
(2) GM: Gnome: At the moment, you are the one invading... counter invading, maybe, but still.....
(2) GM: Gnome: Considering I spent two years in training? Probably. Scary, that.....
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "You attacked first. That makes this an aggressive defence."
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "I can be very aggressive."
(2) GM: Gnome: Yeah, counter invasion...... stupid intelligent aboriginies.....
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eldon is currently playing Mean Cop. Except it's not so much playing...)
(1) Kibin: [1d8] -> [7] = (7)
(1) Kibin: (Ooops.)
(4) Kaylin: (back)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Well, considering you're an unintelligent aboriginie, this should be easy."
(5) Elorin: We're not much of an invasion compared to what your people are doing.
(2) GM: Gnome: Just settling uncivilized lands.... which seems to not be working out so well......
(4) Kaylin: Uncivilized?!
(1) Kibin: All we want is for you to stop invading inhabited worlds.
(4) Kaylin: Who are you calling uncivilised?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Can I take my Craft skill in Craft(Mechanoids?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: * )
(5) Elorin: (the sad thing about this is that I can easily think of multiple examples of exactly this sort of thing in real world history)
(2) GM: Gnome: Sorry, it means "not cityfied", "not highly (untranslatable)" and a few other things. It's not insulting, really.
(2) GM: Bluff check: [1d20] -> [12] = (12)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah. North america for a recent one.)
(4) Kaylin: (Australia?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Sense Motive: [1d20+19] -> [6,19] = (25)
(5) Elorin: (and South America, and Africa)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Lying about it not being an insulting term.....
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Nice try. Did I mention I can read you like a book? A boring one, even."
(2) GM: Europe, too, especially if you count Rome.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Rome tended to conquer, not colonize, I think.)
(5) Elorin: (ah, yes, the Empire whose word for "foreigner" is the root of our "barbarian")
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: ('J00 have planted teh flag! Teh land is y00rs!')
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (True)
(2) GM: Pretty much every conquering civilization, really. Those conquered are second-class citizens at best, and little is done if a member of the conquerers randomly murders one of the conquered. Occasionally, I do draw something from history.
(2) GM: (Anyway....)
** (4) Kaylin goes over to the gnome all in a huff **
(5) Elorin: (this is making me wonder what would have happened if the Indians had had working powerful magic to counter the Europeans' guns :P)
(2) GM: Gnome: Well... we can maybe arrange for a treaty .... which segment do you come from, again? I can't negotiate anything myself, but if you have the numbers....
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Would have come down to population, transportation and politics.)
(4) Kaylin: If you're so civilised, why then do you attack without provocation and without a declaration of intent?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Sense Motive: [1d20+19] -> [6,19] = (25)
(1) Kibin: How about a treaty for all of these planes?
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, He seems to recall a precedent for sealing one, when those on the other side proved a little bit too difficult.....
(5) Elorin: There are a few planes we, ahem, wouldn't have the slightest objection to your invading...
(5) Elorin: Hell and the Abyss for some.
(2) GM: Gnome: All of them? That I doubt anyone can swing.
(4) Kaylin: Help yourselves to Hell.
(2) GM: Gnome: Not at this point.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Or we could seal you up for being too troublesome."
(4) Kaylin: It's easy enough to manage. We just have to capture their leaders and force a treaty.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Bluff: [1d20+19] -> [19,19] = (38)
(2) GM: Gnome: Would that be those firey places? We're working on it. Those places are BIG....
(2) GM: Gnome: Probably could. Course, we'd just end up doing what we did the first time to get into this place.....
(5) Elorin: Which was?
(4) Kaylin: Do tell. I wouldn't want to have to get unpleasant.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "I would."
(4) Kaylin: Be careful not to kill the prisoner right away, though.
(2) GM: Gnome: Well, I'm not a (untranslatable); but basically we found some odd thing, that didn't show up right to our (untranslatable) and our (untranslatable) figured out it was a hole to this crazy place.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "I wonder how easy it would be to snap a bone with this..."
(2) GM: Gnome: Kinda difficult; I used one of those once in police work; you usually end up pulping the limb you wanted to break.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Thanks. That's good to know."
(2) GM: Gnome: Makes it kinda hard to interrogate someone for months after, though.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eldon is getting scawy.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Sense Motive: [1d20+19] -> [3,19] = (22)
(5) Elorin: Oh, I don't think we'd have that problem
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, He's speaking from watching someone try to interrogate someone that way - it was a long, long time before the victim would stop screaming for anything......
(2) GM: Gnome: Ah, yes, the reason one of us tends to hang back... quite annoying when the vermin fix each other. Usually pretty simple to stop, though.
(2) GM: Gnome: When there's two of us... hmm...
(4) Kaylin: Probably isn't wise for you to be referring to us as vermin.
(2) GM: The gnome looks over at his dead companion.
(2) GM: Gnome: Sorry, habit.
(5) Elorin: (Ice Wall gone yet?)
(2) GM: Yeah, it melted.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Sense Motive: [1d20+19] -> [11,19] = (30)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (With his bluff check, he'd have to roll a 20 to have a chance.)
(5) Elorin: We can continue this somewhere else. This particular portal probably gets fairly frequent traffic.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (I thought we had already moved?)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Rather frightened of what comes next, yet not going to betray his loyalties.
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, let's say we moved back to 'home portal')
(3) Eldon Quickfoot (whispering): Was refering to wether he was really sorry, but thanks.
(2) GM: All right - everyone gets dragged back. What route?
(5) Elorin: (checking the Concordant Domain of the Outlands portal just to make sure)
(5) Elorin: (IIRC, it's DDD to Concordant etc., check that one, then R)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (I need to BRB. Feel free to have Eldon do sense motive and bluff as nessasary and be generally threatening.)
(2) GM: Going DDD .....
(1) Kibin: (DDD is home portal.)
(2) GM: (Ah, I miscounted how many you needed to go somewhere along the line.... DDD is Tartian Depths, DDDL is home.)
(1) Kibin: (But we moved one to go back to center, rememember?)
(2) GM: (Ah, I miscounted at the correction to center - yep. I remember now. Ah well.)
(2) GM: (My bad, so you end up at home safe and sound - 6956, for refference; center 6666)
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, I scribbled on the thing some more.
(1) Kibin has sent you a tree node...
(1) Kibin: (You did that 6666 thing on purpose, didn't you.)
(2) GM: (You actually had it right the first time round; Elorin got you confused, assuming for the moment that I didn't get confused anywhere except on the correction, anyway.....)
(2) GM: (Somewhat, yes)
(5) Elorin: (I remember quite distinctly determining that the center on L/R had a portal to Concordant Domain of the Outlands, which is in my notes as being one L from home)
(2) GM: It was one L from home, it wasn't center L/R.
(2) GM: 6,9,4,6
(5) Elorin: (then I'm pretty sure you accidentally switched how many rooms were on each side of home in L/R when we checked)
(1) Kibin: (It doesn't matter...)
(5) Elorin: (anyway, going on...)
(1) Kibin: (Hehe. Another thing out of curisity... GM, did you use that coordinate system before I figured it out?
(2) GM: (Yep, had the co-ordinate system... ah, log, there it is....)
(2) GM: [Bad dice format] - [Sat Apr 15 19:10:40 2006] : (12) Elorin: Let's try L.
(2) GM: [Bad dice format] - [Sat Apr 15 19:11:26 2006] : (9) GM: Going through four to the wall; one accounted for; [3d100] -> [29,50,88] = (167) -> [81,33,13] -> (81, 33, 13) = (127)
(1) Kibin: (Let's just go with how it is now.)
(2) GM: Anyway......
(2) GM: Back at home portal.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Back)
(2) GM: It's been a long time.... [1d100] -> [80] = (80)
(1) Kibin: (I wonder what 7,7,7,7 is like.)
(2) GM: Still empty.
** (1) Kibin asks the gnome, "What system do you use to find your way through this place, by the way?" **
(2) GM: (6,6,6,6 was rather dangerous for everyone else, but not hellish)
(2) GM: Gnome: We count doors. Took forever to get those painted.... but once we did, it became a lot easier.
(5) Elorin: (hmm, it's really too bad Telekinetic Sphere doesn't have a longer duration)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (I wonder if we could find that dimension that was too troublesome?)
(1) Kibin: What do you mean, counting doors?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Poke?)
(1) Kibin: (Ow.)
(2) GM: Gnome: Oh, easy enough, once you have directions. For example, from home, it's three D's and one L to here. You can add others in if you like, but you need to remember to reverse them. Course, you've obviously already figured that out....
(5) Elorin: It might not be the best idea to rest here, and the mines are still occupied. How about going to that neutral place down the L hall? We didn't see any signs of their activity there that I recall.
(1) Kibin: Yes, I've also figured out the dimensions of this place, how to go anywhere in here and find the way back home by just remembering four numbers, and how to find the shortest path from one portal to another portal with just 4 numbers each.
(2) GM: Gnome: Yeah, that's what the (untranslatable) keep telling us. I can never make sense of their drawings, though.
(2) GM: Gnome: Have you tried it without the markers?
(1) Kibin: What do you mean, without the markers?
(5) Elorin: You mean without the letters above each door?
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot tries to figure out what the (untranslatable means. **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [20,8] = (28)
(5) Elorin: That would make it a bit harder to figure out.
(2) GM: Gnome: Right. Took forever to get those all painted in. Nearly fifteen thousand nodes, eight passageways in each node, over a hundred thousand letters to get exactly right........blech.
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Sage seems closest, but Wizard and Priest half-fit too.
(5) Elorin: But, once you know the system, the markers aren't actually necessary.
(1) Kibin: Uh, yes, they are necessary.
(1) Kibin: There's 8 different directions you can go in, and without those markers, there's 8 different definitions of up for example.
(5) Elorin: The letters are always in the same order going around the room.
(2) GM: Gnome: Technically. Through how much dead reconing do you trust your sense of direction in this place? Especially as you can't be quite sure what direction's what after coming through the floor portal...
(1) Kibin: Yes, it's possible to navigate without the markers...
(1) Kibin: But how are you going to figure out your orientation after coming back up out of a portal?
(5) Elorin: Check each direction for one you recognize?
(1) Kibin: And how do you do that if you're lost?
(2) GM: Gnome: The floor portals aren't fully set.
(1) Kibin: What do you mean not fully set?
(2) GM: Gnome: Well, they can be moved, a little, on the other ends from in here...... takes some really strange stuff, though, and quite a lot of work on the part of the (untranslatable). Really helps us get where we're going easily, though.
(1) Kibin: Hmmm. We could just put a permanent force wall on the center portal.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot (whispering): Would that be the same untranslateable?
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Yep.
(1) Kibin: Of course, there's still the people outside the center.
(1) Kibin: But that would remove any reinforcements from there.
(2) GM: Gnome: What's this force wall?
(5) Elorin: (and the fact that the 3 or 4 Permanency's required would cost 7500 or 10000 xp)
(5) Elorin: (Wall of Force has to be vertical)
(1) Kibin: (Oh. O.o)
(1) Kibin: (Well, why would I know that, I don't know hardly anything about magic.)
(5) Elorin: What do you think? A wall made of pure force, of course.
(4) Kaylin: Prevents even those little rocks of yours from passing through.
(5) Elorin: Pretty much impervious to most anything.
(2) GM: Gnome: Well, lost of things will stop the (untranslatable).
(4) Kaylin: Doesn't seem like these gnomes have much magical abilities...
** (1) Kibin thinks about force walls for a moment. "Is there a way to see a force wall? Would probally be painful to fly into one of those..." **
(2) GM: (Lots)
whispering to Kibin, Invisible and unmoving - DC 40 Spot check might do it......
(1) Kibin: (400 feet per round dragon + unnoticed force wall = pain.)
(5) Elorin: (try running into it edge on)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ouch!)
(4) Kaylin: Walls of force are invisible.
(1) Kibin: Yes...
(1) Kibin: I know that.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Oh - Jack, can I take my Craft skill in Craft(Mechanoids)?)
(5) Elorin: Anyway, you mentioned the possibility of a treaty earlier. What would we have to do to make one?
(5) Elorin: (what, you want to be able to repair these things?)
(5) Elorin: (and keep one as a permanent possession?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Repair, re-wire, re-work...Build an army of them for the good guys...)
(2) GM: Gnome: Oh, talk to the ambassadors, impress them enough that they think you're worth dealing with, lots of time sitting around talking......
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (But keeping one as a permanent possession, most likely.)
** (5) Elorin thinks you'd need a whole lot of ranks to pull that off **
(1) Kibin: Okay... How do we do that without them using their shoot on sight orders on me?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (+8 Int, soon to be Epic (If our GM allows))
(5) Elorin: Technically, they have shoot on sight orders for everyone.
(5) Elorin: It's just that you get shot first
(2) GM: Gnome: Oh, I don't know.... not be you?
(1) Kibin: And it's not a flying snake, it's a dragon.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "I know - Why don't we go visiting throughout here and tell people how to kill these gnomes?"
(2) GM: Gnome: I can see why the papers suggested a lot more than two.....
(5) Elorin: That would take forever with just us.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "So? Once they knew of this place, they could spread the word."
(2) GM: Gnome: Oh, it's really easy to die here; it's only when we leave that the safties work like that.
** (1) Kibin hmmms, asking, "How many did they suggest to attack us with?" **
(2) GM: Gnome: Three to five was the reccommended range.
(1) Kibin: Ah.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Int check on that first statement?)
(5) Elorin: So your only protected and sent back home when you'd be killed on some other plane, not in this complex?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ah.)
** (5) Elorin smiles **
(2) GM: Gnome: Oops.
(1) Kibin: So, if we were to, say, bring all the armies of all the planes you've been attacking into here, and stage a counterinvasion...
(5) Elorin: What about when you're on your home plane?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Sense Motive: [1d20+19] -> [6,19] = (25)
(1) Kibin: Then you'd suffer a lot more casualties, since we have spells that can ressurect people back to life.
** (5) Elorin has visions of masses of Solars and Planetars parading through here to stage a counter invasion **
(2) GM: Elorin: Don't work there, lessen the Metal Beast (poor fit) was made elsewhere.
(1) Kibin: (Arm them all with adamantine weapons... :d)
(1) Kibin: (Ownage. :)
(2) GM: Gnome, not Elorin - strange typo to make.....
** (1) Kibin hmmms. "Why are you telling us all of this?" **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (What do I get on that Sense Motive?)
(5) Elorin: Mmhmm. So, as I see it, we have three options: 1) Seal them off with permanent Walls of Force; 2) Try to establish a treaty; 3) Find a friendly army and guide them here.
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, He's not joking. He really is quite scared because of it.
(1) Kibin: Treaty is good. Less casualties.
(4) Kaylin: 1 and 3 will be extremely difficult to pull off.
(5) Elorin: Option 1 has the problem that they might find a different portal from their home plane or eventually figure out a way to break or circumvent the Walls.
(2) GM: [1d100] -> [33] = (33)
(5) Elorin: Option 3 I imagine the celestials would be happy to help us with.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "How about all three?"
(4) Kaylin: Hmmm... forced diplomacy...
(1) Kibin: Sure. Let's go attack them while we're negotiating a treaty!
(4) Kaylin: More likely to work against a militaristic group, I suppose.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "So, just out of curiousity, how many layers have you conquered in the Abyss?"
(5) Elorin: So, unless you like the idea of a well-equipped and powerful army invading your homeland, I'd suggest you do your best to tell us how we could establish a treaty most easily and convince us that it actually stands a good chance of success.
(2) GM: Gnome: Oh, a handful,..... those places seem to go on and on and on........
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "A handfull...About five?"
(1) Kibin: Happily I've only been to two of those planes... or one plane twice, not sure.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Hey Kaylin...How many layers is the Abyss reputed to have?"
(4) Kaylin: Knowledge: The Planes Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [16,18] = (34)
(2) GM: Gnome: Meh, I'm getting tired of.... war, not extermination, need to remember that....
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Just trying to scare some sense into him...)
(5) Elorin: A few million according to certain times I cast Discern Location.
whispering to Kaylin, Conventional wisdom says 666; of course, the place defies conventional wisdom......
(5) Elorin: ("ghost is on level 66639817, pit 364598 of the Abyss..." :P)
(5) Elorin: (or something like that)
whispering to Kaylin, It's not called the infinite planes of the abyss for nothing.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "So you see, your leaders may have been less than wise..."
(4) Kaylin: While there have been attempts to discern the number of planes, there is no concrete evidence. According to one study I read their name of "infinite planes of the abyss" is accurate.
(1) Kibin: Sounds about right for eternal torture...
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot stays silent. **
(4) Kaylin: It is entirely possible that they are set up as an inifintely generating sequence of planes.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Do you think things like that might convince your leaders that peace is a good idea?"
(4) Kaylin: Perhaps even ... I'll be quiet and let you go back to the questions.
(1) Kibin: Of course, there's only about 11 times 11 times 11 times 11 planes accessable from here...
(2) GM: Gnome: Well, lets see.... You'd need to get to them, trouble being they're about a hundred miles from where we operate.... could attract their attemntion, maybe...... careful, though, you want the ambassadors, not the national guard.....
(4) Kaylin: Before we do anything else, we should rest and prepare ourselves for the journey.
(1) Kibin: Yeah, off to the concordant planes of whatever.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Anyone else get the idea some of these planes were written by munchkins who thought this or that idea would be 'SO COOL!'? :D )
(2) GM: Gnome: Then you impress them somehow... not sure what they'd consider impressive, what with our own armies.....
(5) Elorin: If you've got a good enough description of where to go, distance is not an obstacle for us.
(4) Kaylin: I personally would like to quickly stop by the Material plane and update my spellbook so I could be useful against these machines.
(1) Kibin: So you want to go past all of those machines?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "We could see if we could get an army of invetables.."
(5) Elorin: If we want to go back home, I'd suggest doing it via another plane.
(4) Kaylin: I have a strange suspicion that those important in any heirarchy are well-guarded.
(1) Kibin: And if we surrender, we have a possibility of talking to them without getting killed..
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Someone with knowledge of the planes ask him if the've invaded any giant machinery lately...)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "The improbability, I'd say."
(4) Kaylin: Or they continue to think we're vermin, and they wipe us out without a second thought while we're surrendering.
(2) GM: Jason: Oh, you mean like the .... what did they call themselves... the Marut's that get sent after me every now and again?
(1) Kibin: The what now?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "I say come with an army. Then see if they want to talk."
(4) Kaylin: Let's leave that option for a little after some diplomatic exchange, shall we?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Diplomacy is easier when you have force. We can leave the army behind in here..."
(5) Elorin: We should at least inform someone about what we've learned before trying to force our way to a talk with some ambassadors.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Indeed."
(5) Elorin: (So, off through L and the portal, then rest and plan?)
(1) Kibin: (You can suggest that.)
(4) Kaylin: (yeah)
(5) Elorin: Anyway, enough talking where we might be found. Let's go
** (5) Elorin goes through L and hops through the portal there **
** (4) Kaylin follows Elorin **
** (1) Kibin follows as well. **
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot follows Elorin **
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot drags the prisoner. **
(2) GM: Dragging the gnome?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Nix that.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (No, too strong.)
** (5) Elorin drags the gnome along **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (And I don't even know if this has hands)
(5) Elorin: (depending on how light he is, I might actually be able to carry him)
(1) Kibin: (Yes, it does have hands. Hands that shoot out a lethal projectile if you press the wrong button.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Oh. Thought it had a rifle.)
(5) Elorin: (no, the gun's built into the hand and arm)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (I wonder if we're going to see artificers pop up after this campaign...)
(2) GM: And you land in an area that looks much like a nice sized plain, although you can see forest, mountains, and even what looks like an overly large lake or a smallish ocean and some swamps from where you stand.
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot tries to get out of the suit. **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [18,8] = (26)
(2) GM: The sky's a clean enough blue, although you can see thunderclouds in the distance.
(1) Kibin: (Ooo, I can go to a guarded site by a dragon once a month and recieve the benifits of the commune spell. :)
(2) GM: And it pops open and lets Eldon out.
(5) Elorin: Hmm, I think this looks like a good enough camping spot.
(2) GM: Off in the distance, you can see what appear to be spokes of land radiating out from about where you are.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Are we on the right plane?"
(4) Kaylin: Knowledge: The Planes Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [12,18] = (30)
whispering to Kaylin, You seem to be at the hub of the Concordant domains. Magic isn't going to work too well.
(2) GM: Jason vanishes from view as you enter.
(1) Kibin: Uh, where's Jason?
(2) GM: Oh, and you fall. Except for Kibin and Elorin.
(2) GM: One hundred fifty feet. Anyone got tumble?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+19] -> [4,19] = (23)
** (5) Elorin tries to catch Kaylin **
(1) Kibin: (Can I catch Eldon?)
(1) Kibin: (If he's under 50 pounds.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (And he didn't notice this before opening the suit?)
(5) Elorin: (what, is the whole plane antimagic?)
(4) Kaylin: (yes)
(2) GM: Sort of.... Kibin - Combat Reflexes?
(5) Elorin: (er, how about an int check to mention that before we go?)
(1) Kibin: (Uh, no.)
(2) GM: Gravity has a higher initiative check than you do......
(1) Kibin: (Bah. Screw gravity.)
(2) GM: So that's a 140 foot effective fall for Eldon; [14d6] -> [4,4,5,6,6,5,1,5,3,3,6,1,6,4] = (59) to the metal beast.
(2) GM: Which gets some nasty dents when it hits, but survives the impact.
(2) GM: Kaylin, unfortunately..... [15d6] -> [4,4,2,5,4,6,2,5,1,3,4,5,3,2,5] = (55)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Something tells me we've lost the prisoner...)
(5) Elorin: (um, if any of us had actually known about the antimagic, I think we would have decided on going somewhere else)
** (1) Kibin freefalls, starting to hover just above the ground. **
(2) GM: Actually, Elorin was carrying him.....
(5) Elorin: (and Kaylin did know, so...)
(4) Kaylin: (How did we know about these planes? Did we already visit?)
(5) Elorin: (this one we'd already peeked at and you'd identified it)
(2) GM: Once, yes, but it depends on where you are in this one for how much magic is suppressed.
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot stands up. **
(5) Elorin: (still, she should have thought of it IC as a possibility and a definite bad thing)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Does Eldon himself take any damage?)
(1) Kibin: (It's just a little damage...)
(4) Kaylin: (that's the trouble when the character is smarter than the player :/)
(2) GM: Travel just a hundred miles and you can start casting your first and second level spells again......
(4) Kaylin: ("just"?)
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, it's just a couple of hour's flight.)
(4) Kaylin: ('kay, look. Not all of us can fly.)
(1) Kibin: (Hehe. :)
(5) Elorin: (so, anyway, int check to realize this might happen before we go through with it?)
(2) GM: A fifth level spell could plane shift you out - with a roll - at the 600 mile mark.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (You know, there's this nasty thread about GM's I know about... :| :D )
(4) Kaylin: (oh? :P)
(2) GM: Nah, party has the recources to deal with this. Three fly on their own in an Ex capacity (Jason's merely suppressed), Eldon can convince the beast he's in to fly, and it has a lot of wieght capacity for dealing with Kaylin.
(1) Kibin: (My flight ability isn't an extraordinary ability, it's a natural ability.)
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot walks a ways away and tries to figure out the flying part. **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [17,8] = (25)
(5) Elorin: (there's still the irreparable damage to the Beast, at least for our resources, and that we'd like to keep it as intact as possible for study)
(1) Kibin: (I suppose it's impossible for me to succeed on move silently skill checks now.)
(2) GM: And you get it in there air.
(2) GM: (Strangely, no - it's a completely different effect that doesn't produce the same harmonics)
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot does a few loops. **
(5) Elorin: Ok, back through the portal and to another plane.
(2) GM: Int check for manuevers? Per round basis.....
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot then tries to land. **
(5) Elorin: This one has some inconvenient properties
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (In that case, I'll just land.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [20,8] = (28)
(2) GM: And you land successfully.
(4) Kaylin: Indeed... the antimagical effects are variable depending on location on this plane. We happened to land quite inconveniently in an area of extreme supression.
(5) Elorin: (which, among other things, means Tongues is suppressed so the gnome thinks we're just babbling :P)
whispering to Kaylin, It's even orderly; head in any particular direction on one of the spokes, and you get away from the effect... slowly.
** (1) Kibin flies high up into the air while they're trying to find a way to get up, about 300+ feet up so he can recover from goofing up, then sees what maneuvers he can do with his wings. **
(5) Elorin: All right, Kibin and I can fly up and take the prisoner with us, and Jason is probably already back through, but I don't think I'm strong enough to fly carrying your weight, Kaylin. You'll have to ride up with Eldon.
(5) Elorin: And hope he doesn't make a mistake
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Uh...Depending on how fast I go through the portal..."
whispering to Kaylin, Magic doesn't work perfecly until you're over 1,200 miles out. But a simple Clerical Plane shift, as a mere 5th rank spell, is possible,but difficult, at the 500 mile mark, and simple at the 800 mile mark.
(1) Kibin: (Apparently, according to the Draconomicon, dragons don't respond well to sweet flavors for some reason. Hmmm.)
(5) Elorin: (hmm, how strong are you, Kibin?)
(1) Kibin: (I can lift a 50 pound weight and still fly.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (One person take the arms, the other the feet...)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: ( :D )
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Or a rope net...)
(1) Kibin: (50 pounds, not 2,000 pounds.)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Not the mech, Kaylin)
(5) Elorin: I suppose Kibin and I might be able to fly you up together.
** (1) Kibin hovers above the portal, looking down below at the people below him. **
(5) Elorin: Eldon, you try to go back first.
(5) Elorin: Wait, first...
(5) Elorin: Kibin, come and see if we can lift Kaylin while flying together
(1) Kibin: (I can hear them, right?)
** (5) Elorin yells if necessary **
(2) GM: Yeah, you can hear them.
(2) GM: Or at least tell that they want you to come down.
** (1) Kibin dives back down to where everyone is at, and hovers. **
(5) Elorin: Ok, you take one hand, I'll take the other, and lift.
** (5) Elorin does so **
(4) Kaylin: Ack. All right...
** (1) Kibin does so too, still hovering. Hovering is fun... **
(2) GM: Manueverability?
(5) Elorin: (Good, for me)
(5) Elorin: (perfect while hovering for Kibin, I think)
(1) Kibin: (When hovering, manuverability is pretty much perfect for me.)
(1) Kibin: (At only half speed, though.)
(2) GM: And speeds?
(2) GM: As for hovering, for you, Kibin.
(1) Kibin: (50 feet in any direction when hovering.)
(5) Elorin: (neither of us has a minimum, so we can easily match)
(5) Elorin: (speed 60, but half for straight up)
(2) GM: And... dex checks for proper alignment and coordinatino.
(5) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [7,6] = (13)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [20,3] = (23)
(5) Elorin: (-3 because my gloves aren't working)
(1) Kibin: (Oh. Just a 20 for me then.)
(2) GM: Good enough; nat 20-s cover a lot of tasks
(2) GM: Ah, that puts you at 10..... hmm....... well, not too difficult a task, so DC 10 is fine. You're a quite awkward compared to Kibin's graceful flight, though.
(2) GM: Ever so slowly, Kaylin is lifted from the earth, to the sky, on others' wings.
** (5) Elorin comes back for the gnome after Kaylin's through, but waits for Eldon to go first **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [16,8] = (24)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: Eldon flies through coordinatedly.
(5) Elorin: Well, that was annoying.
(2) GM: And you fly. At 120 (poor), half up.... two rounds... second check?
(5) Elorin: Let's see, of the other portals we've checked, one had ground both underfoot and up above. Know anything about that one, Kaylin?
(4) Kaylin: (aren't I in another plane at the moment?)
(5) Elorin: (I ask after we're all back through the portal)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [8,8] = (16)
(4) Kaylin: (I already made a check on that plane... but OOC I don't remember)
(2) GM: Ooh, and you fall. Fortunately, only 120 feet... [12d6] -> [5,1,2,4,4,3,2,4,5,4,6,5] = (45); tumble gets the last die off.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+19] -> [16,19] = (35)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (So the machine is trashed?)
(2) GM: So 40 damage; reduced by it's DR...
(1) Kibin: (Hehe. Wonder if we could use actual draconic, like pothoc terunt. :)
(2) GM: It's still running.
(5) Elorin: (was the previous damage reduced by DR too?)
(2) GM: Yep.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [3,8] = (11)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [16,8] = (24)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [15,8] = (23)
(2) GM: (It's DR is Ex.....)
(2) GM: First try, you don't get in the air.... second try you do, and the third you continue on up through the portal safely.
** (5) Elorin comes through with the gnome and asks his question **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "How damaged does it look?"
(1) Kibin: (The question was?)
(5) Elorin: Let's see, of the other portals we've checked, one had ground both underfoot and up above. Know anything about that one, Kaylin?
(2) GM: Skill check?
(4) Kaylin: Knowledge: The Planes Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [10,18] = (28)
(2) GM: Actually, I think it was already identified.....
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (BRB)
(4) Kaylin: (it was, but I don't remember OOC)
(5) Elorin: (I think so too, but for some reason I didn't record it)
whispering to Kaylin, Twin Paradises of Bytopia - Normal Magic....
(1) Kibin: How about, if we find an appropriate plane to rest in, we record it's coordinates?
(4) Kaylin: Twin Paradises of Eytopia... magic should work fine there.
(5) Elorin: Paradise sounds good. Anything else that might be a problem?
(2) GM: (by, not ey....)
(4) Kaylin: (oops. Any problems wit the plan, GM?)
whispering to Kaylin, Good aligned plane; nothing likely to want to kill you; Eldon's mech, sure, but not you.
(2) GM: Gnome: Oh, it could probably stand a few more falls before it goes home.
(4) Kaylin: It's a good aligned plane... it'll be dangerous to have the mech there, but we should be fine.
(4) Kaylin: (er, mechanical thing, not mech)
(5) Elorin: Dangerous, how so? Because the inhabitants might object?
(4) Kaylin: Precisely.
(1) Kibin: It's just an inert hunk of metal when noone is controlling it...
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Back)
(5) Elorin: Maybe if we put up a big "CAPTURED MACHINE" sign on it?
(2) GM: Jason: And who all knows that?
(4) Kaylin: That plane is connected to this hub, isn't it?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "That might work."
(4) Kaylin: It's likely the inhabitants have been attacked by them.
(4) Kaylin: They're not going to be kindly predisposed in that situation.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Or we could simply drag it through."
(4) Kaylin: (why don't we just go to the Material plane through that portal?)
(1) Kibin: (Because it has antimagic effects?)
(4) Kaylin: (The material plane has antimagic?)
(5) Elorin: (because we'd like to keep the machine, it can't be transported magically, and there are still quite a number of enemies on the other side of the home portal)
(4) Kaylin: (ah)
(1) Kibin: (Oh, go through home portal.)
(5) Elorin: So, big sign visible from a mile off saying the thing is captured?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "And I get out of it so it isn't mobile."
(5) Elorin: Or find another hospitable plane, or just leave it behind.
(1) Kibin: Okay then. Off we go?
(1) Kibin: Standing here talking is boring...
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Let's make the sign first."
(5) Elorin: Out of what, though? Hmm, Kaylin, got Polymorph Any Object prepared?
(4) Kaylin: Not today, no
(5) Elorin: Hmm, we could try to find materials for a sign on the plane before we bring it through.
(1) Kibin: Or we could just explain it to the people there...
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "That might work."
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "Which would work better if it was being dragged."
(5) Elorin: Explanation would probably only work if we do it before bring it through.
(5) Elorin: Anyway, let's go and see what we find.
(5) Elorin: R and D from here, I believe
(1) Kibin: People who are clearly NOT the invaders, bringing in a mostly immobile and not shooting at everything in sight hunk of metal.
(4) Kaylin: Kibin, you have a little too much faith in people's trusting nature.
** (5) Elorin goes through R and D and peeks through the portal **
(4) Kaylin: (For the purposes of Plane Shift, what does the mech count as?)
(5) Elorin: (not transportable)
(5) Elorin: (just like for Teleport, I imagine)
(2) GM: Depends.
(2) GM: So R, D, then hop through the portal?
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Gate would probably work...But Eldon couldn't even guess that.)
(5) Elorin: (yeah, but we don't have that yet)
(5) Elorin: (though Kaylin could pick it up once we get to a shop)
(5) Elorin: (just poking my head through at first)
(5) Elorin: (to see what the drop is and if anyone's nearby)
(5) Elorin: (oh yeah, before that, Kaylin needs healing)
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Critical Wounds ( level 4, "Cures 4d8 damage +1/level (max +20)" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Elorin: [4d8+18] -> [4,4,4,6,18] = (36)
(5) Elorin: (how much more was it?)
(4) Kaylin: (19)
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Moderate Wounds ( level 2, "Cures 2d8 damage +1/level (max +10)" )
(5) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 2 Spell ( level 2, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(5) Elorin: [2d8+10] -> [7,5,10] = (22)
** (1) Kibin asks Kaylin, "How does the gravity work on that plane? **
whispering to Elorin, Yep, land both above and below, considerably closer below than above; about fifty feet, mayb, to the ground below, and nearly two miles to the ground above. It's a very lush and green place, with birds, leaves, berries, and water all over the place. There's a small city off in the distance, and a few largish bodies of water.
(4) Kaylin: Thank you, Elorin.
whispering to Kaylin, Generally, you're pulled towards whichever landmass you're closest too. Occasionally, a mountain pokes above the threshold, though, and climbers will sometimes fall up to the other landmass.
(5) Elorin: Looks about a 50 foot drop. There's a small city in the distance, but I didn't spot anyone really close by.
(1) Kibin: \
(4) Kaylin: You fall to the closest major block of land.
(4) Kaylin: Don't go too high or you'll fall the other way...
(1) Kibin: Yeah, wouldn't want to be trying to fly upside down...
** (3) Eldon Quickfoot exits the armor. **
(2) GM: Int check?
(1) Kibin: Flying is a lot more dangerous than it seems.
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [13,8] = (21)
(5) Elorin: Oh, I estimated about 2 miles between the grounds, so you'd have plenty of time to recover and turn over
(2) GM: And you're out. Door of the beast is open, and the black wavery layer is visible.
(1) Kibin: Force walls, gravity reversing on itself, stalling in midair...
(1) Kibin: Ghosts pinning you in midair...
(2) GM: Jason: Fun times, fun times.
(1) Kibin: Not fun when you almost fall to the ground after that.
(2) GM: Jason: You didn't have far to go.... come on, barely a scratch. And you caught yourself anyway.
(5) Elorin: So, let's go through, leaving this pile of metal behind, see if we can piece together a reasonable sign, and then come back for it.
** (5) Elorin hops through the portal **
** (1) Kibin does so as well. Weeeeee! **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Uh, the prisoner? Kaylin? Eldon's now-flightless self?)
(2) GM: You find yourselves in a strange place, with land both above and below, considerably closer below than above; about fifty feet, to the ground below, and nearly two miles to the ground above. It's a very lush and green place, with birds, leaves, berries, and water all over the place. There's a small city off in the distance, and a few largish bodies of water.
(2) GM: Jason: Need a lift?
(5) Elorin: (I don't think it's been 18 hours since I cast Wind Walk on all of us)
(1) Kibin: (Bleh. Jumping through portal > Kaylin/prisoner/eldon right now.)
(2) GM: No, no, not that long.
** (1) Kibin goes see how far until gravity flips. **
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: "That would be nice."
(2) GM: Kibin flies about a mile upwards.
whispering to Kibin, Which is where gravity turns around. Reflex save?
(1) Kibin: Reflex save: [1d20+22] -> [5,22] = (27)
whispering to Kibin, And you right yourself readily enough.
** (1) Kibin flies back down(up?) **
(2) GM: Reflex save?
(1) Kibin: Reflex save: [1d20+22] -> [15,22] = (37)
(2) GM: And he rights himself quite handily.
(4) Kaylin: (brb)
** (1) Kibin tries to land as gracefully as possible next to everyone, then. **
(2) GM: And does so.
(1) Kibin: (You know, I still have one free language from creation I haven't used yet...)
(1) Kibin: (Probally because I ran out of languages on the kobold's list. :P)
(5) Elorin: (hmm, I don't suppose Arcane Mark could be adapted for a magical sign. Kaylin probably doesn't have enough of it prepared for a decent size sign, anyway)
(5) Elorin: (do we have any paper or other writing material?)
(3) Eldon Quickfoot: (Presumably someone has the prisoner?)
** (5) Elorin goes back and gets him if necessary **
(5) Elorin: (and reminds anyone who needs it of Wind Walk)
(2) GM: From Arcane Mark: "no more than six characters"
(2) GM: Yeah, would take quite a few to make a decent sign.....
(5) Elorin: (any unprepared spell slots?)
(1) Kibin: (Captured)
(1) Kibin: (Two arcane marks. :)
(4) Kaylin: (back)
** (1) Kibin goes walking off towards the city, as he can't think of how he could help with the sign. **
(5) Elorin: So, paper, papyrus, anything else we could write on and stretch out as a banner? Any unprepared spell slots?
(4) Kaylin: Not today...
(5) Elorin: Multiple Arcane Marks?
(2) GM: The city isn't walled; there's a few extremely stright stone paths going away from it. It's a place of industry; silver-wooled sheep are for sale by shepherds.
(4) Kaylin: I have one Arcane Mark prepared for today.
(4) Kaylin: (lol, steel wool)
(1) Kibin: (No. Silver wool.)
(2) GM: There's even a few dragons - you spy one medium sized gold dragon and a large Silver.
(1) Kibin: (Free money. :)
(1) Kibin: (Or, it could just be silver colored.)
(1) Kibin: (And not actual silver.)
(5) Elorin: We probably won't find any good sign-making material just lying around, so I guess it's off to the city and hope no one discovers the machine before we come back for it.
(2) GM: Others sell grain, flour, or corn. Some sell, honey, some sell milk, and there's other shops and smithies about.
(2) GM: [1d100] -> [72] = (72)
(2) GM: On the way, you encounter a few people, humanoids of a type you're not quite familiar with, taking a cart loaded down with wool and sheepskin to town.
** (1) Kibin looks around ahead of the group. **
(2) GM: [1d4] -> [4] = (4)
(2) GM: Four of them, specifically.
(2) GM: They greet you cordially.
(5) Elorin (exit): 17:15
(13) Elorin (enter): 17:15
(2) GM: Hmm... my connections working.....
(14) Kibin (enter): 17:15
(13) Elorin: (last line 1d100=72)
(1) Kibin (exit): 17:15
(4) Kaylin (exit): 17:15
(3) Eldon Quickfoot (exit): 17:15
(14) Kibin: (Router reset?)
** (13) Elorin flies into the city and looks for someone he thinks might be knowledgable and able to help with our little problem **
(2) GM: On the way, you encounter a few people, humanoids of a type you're not quite familiar with, taking a cart loaded down with wool and sheepskin to town.
(2) GM: They greet you cordially.
(2) GM: Four of them, specifically.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot (enter): 17:16
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Game disconnected)
(2) GM: More likely someone's downloaded a lot of things who's sharing the local portion of my Comcast connection.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (We're in the city now?)
(2) GM: Annnd now we wait for kaylin to notice.
(13) Elorin: (Kibin and I, at least, took off there after running out of ideas for on-the-spot signs)
(14) Kibin: (I took off there earlier than Elorin. :P)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eldon would have followed.)
(14) Kibin: (She's away I think. :P)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Violist is a he...)
(2) GM: Okay, well, you reach the town.
(2) GM: The city isn't walled; there's a few extremely stright stone paths going away from it. It's a place of industry; silver-wooled sheep are for sale by shepherds.
(14) Kibin: (He. Bleh.)
(2) GM: There's even a few dragons - you spy one medium sized gold dragon and a large Silver.
(2) GM: Others sell grain, flour, or corn. Some sell, honey, some sell milk, and there's other shops and smithies about.
** (14) Kibin looks around the city, exploring it. **
(14) Kibin: (Ooo, swashbucklers can reroll one failed attack roll, skill check, ability check, or saving throw each day.)
** (13) Elorin flies into the city and looks for someone he thinks might be knowledgable and able to help with our little problem **
(2) GM: Search check?
(13) Elorin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+2] -> [15,2] = (17)
(2) GM: You find what appears to be a tannery.
(14) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+19] -> [5,19] = (24)
(14) Kibin: (There's my search check, which is sucky.)
(16) Kaylin (enter): 17:25
(16) Kaylin: (gah. Wasn't paying attention...)
(14) Kibin: (Welcome back.)
(2) GM: The city isn't walled; there's a few extremely stright stone paths going away from it. It's a place of industry; silver-wooled sheep are for sale by shepherds.
(2) GM: There's even a few dragons - you spy one medium sized gold dragon and a large Silver.
(14) Kibin: (Well can you start paying attention more?)
(2) GM: Others sell grain, flour, or corn. Some sell, honey, some sell milk, and there's other shops and smithies about.
** (14) Kibin goes over to the sheep to see if it's actual silver, or just silver-colored wool.) **
(2) GM: Appraise check?
** (15) Eldon Quickfoot asks someone about the rulers of this place. **
(14) Kibin: Appraise Skill Check: [1d20+2] -> [19,2] = (21)
(2) GM: Someone: Rulers?
whispering to Kibin, Nah, just odd colored wool.
** (15) Eldon Quickfoot asks who makes high-level descisions. **
(2) GM: Someone: I'm sure someone sells such measuring instruments.
** (14) Kibin goes back over to the group then. "Meh, not real silver." **
(13) Elorin: (it's a Paradise, they're probably a pure democracy)
(16) Kaylin: ((or pure communism)
(2) GM: Someone: What do you mean by high-level decisions? I suppose I the one who decides whether to sell to this person or that, to buy from this person or that.....
(2) GM: Someone: Or to build a new house, or not. Is that what you're refferring to?
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "Ok, thanks."
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "No...More along the lines of worrying about people invading...But that probably never happens here."
** (14) Kibin goes wandering off to look at the various items for sell. **
(2) GM: Someone: Why worry? We had an invasion a while back - the smithies just decided to start making arms, people took them up, and off we all went to war.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "How did you fight them off?"
whispering to Kibin, You find lots of things. Wood, leather, steel, books, ink, solder, grain, and a great many other things.
(2) GM: Someone: Well... a few of the Maruts, archons, Devas, and dragons helped, but basically we just beat them back. That was a long time ago, though.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "What did the invaders look like?"
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "Some people we know have been having problems with invasions."
(2) GM: Someone: Oh, not too pretty. Short leather skirts, bronze helmets, spears..... seemed to have a conquering bent.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "Hmm...Probably not the invaders we're worring about. They use machinery."
(14) Kibin: (It's the roman empire! Run!)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Grecian, from the spears.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Romans used short swords. :D )
(14) Kibin: (Heh. :P)
(16) Kaylin: (they also had the pilae)
(13) Elorin: (Romans used short swords. It was the Greek Phalanx that used lots of spears)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, but didn't they throw that?)
(16) Kaylin: (I believe so... throwing wasn't mentioned too much though.)
(2) GM: Someone: Machinery? You'd have to talk with the Maruts, Kolyaruts, and the like. They know machinery very well.
(2) GM: Someone: But there's lots of room here to farm and mine.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "Thanks. I don't think they quite understand sharing, yet, though."
(2) GM: Someone: What's sharing got to do with farming and mining or trade?
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "Or trade, for that matter. Well, nice talking to you. Good luck with your trading."
(2) GM: Someone: Thanks. What are you looking for, anyhow? Most people come to town to buy or sell, and you dont appear to be hauling a cart.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "Mostly, help in getting the invaders to stop invading."
(2) GM: Someone: Ah, well, good luck with that.
(13) Elorin: We managed to capture one of the machines these invaders use, and we need to rest here and were worrying someone might recognize it and make some wrong conclusions.
(2) GM: Someone: Oh. Well, I haven't seen any, other than the maruts and such.
(13) Elorin: Well, nice talking to you. I guess our worry was all for nothing, as no one here seems to have even heard of them.
(2) GM: Someone: Well, not much too terribly bad happens here.
(14) Kibin: (That means that they're going to attack tonight. Heh.)
(2) GM: Someone: Good day.
(13) Elorin: So, how about we just go back and fetch the thing from where it might be stumbled across and recovered, and not worry about it too much.
** (14) Kibin continues wandering the city, looking around. **
(13) Elorin: (no response to my suggestion?)
** (16) Kaylin asks random bystanders if there's a magic shop in town **
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "Sounds good to me."
(2) GM: Random Bystander: Isn't there always?
(16) Kaylin: Could you direct me to its location?
(2) GM: A radndom bystander points you to Ye Younge Shoppe of Majgicke
** (13) Elorin heads back to the portal with Eldon **
(16) Kaylin: (lol)
** (16) Kaylin goes to Ye Younge Shoppe **
(2) GM: Inside, you see a seemingly young man standing behind a counter. The musty room is full of scrolls, books, parchments, inks, and other materials.
** (14) Kibin is who knows where in the city. **
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (BRB)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Probably trying to fleece a sheep... :D)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Sorry)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Back)
(16) Kaylin: (to shopkeeper) Would you have any spellbooks I can copy from or do I have to scribe from scrolls?
(14) Kibin: (It's not real silver. :(
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: Oh, we have a few of both; what are you looking for?
(13) Elorin: (let's see, what spells did you get on levelup?)
(16) Kaylin: (Wish and Weird)
(13) Elorin: (I'd suggest Shapechange and Gate off the top of my head)
(16) Kaylin: I was looking for Shapechange, Gate, and Symbol of Death.
(14) Kibin: (Power Word: Kill.)
(14) Kibin: (Any creature with HP under 100 is instantly slain, no save.)
(16) Kaylin: (would that pierce the mech's armour?)
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: We don't sell that last.... but we do have those others down. Even have a few of the jade circlets.
(13) Elorin: (I'd suggest Meteor Swarm too, but I doubt they have it)
(16) Kaylin: Possible to copy from an existing spellbook?
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: Been a long while since anyone asked, though........ not often we run across someone capable of casting them on their own.....
(16) Kaylin: (bloody peaceful types)
(2) GM: The young man looks under the counter for a time.
** (14) Kibin wanders by the magic shop, and Kaylin. **
(2) GM: Young Man: Ah, here it is - scrolls can be used by just about anybody.
(13) Elorin: (Telekinetic Sphere might be good too)
** (14) Kibin goes into the magic shop, seeing what she's doing. **
(14) Kibin: (I'm going to play a psiknife/duelist next character.)
(13) Elorin: (17 minutes of the whole party being pretty much invulnerable, though also unable to attack)
(14) Kibin: (Fear my leet jedi.)
(2) GM: Young Man: Although we don't have it ready for copying in spellbook form, sorry. That's 8,825 gold crowns for the Gate, and 3,825 gold crowns for the Shapechange. Total comes to 12,650 gold crowns.
(16) Kaylin: Oh, and what about Telekinetic Sphere?
(14) Kibin: (Don't forget your two free spells you can scribe.)
(13) Elorin: (Doesn't block speech though, I think, so it could give us time to find and talk to an ambassador while forcing the army to do pretty much nothing)
(16) Kaylin: (kibin: already got those: Wish, Weird)
(14) Kibin: (It could be extended too, for a level 9 slot.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "Why are we hauling the armor if we're just going to leave?"
(2) GM: Young Man: Ah, yes, we have that in a spellbook, ready for copying. Charge is 800 to look for a day.
(16) Kaylin: Excellent, excellent.
(16) Kaylin: Is a crafting portal available for use?
(2) GM: Young Man: A what?
(14) Kibin: Crafting portal, it's to a plane where time is accelerated or something.
(16) Kaylin: Hmm. Portal to a plane where time passes quickly relative to this one?
(2) GM: Young Man: Ah, no, we don't have anything quite that fancy.
(14) Kibin: (What would a telekinetic sphere do to one of these creatures... :)
(14) Kibin: (Or a resilient sphere, rather.)
(16) Kaylin: Pity.
(13) Elorin: (we've got one to test it on)
(14) Kibin: (Which you can quicken. For a total of two resilent spheres on the same turn.)
(16) Kaylin: So I believe that's 13650 gold crowns. Does that include the price for a jade circlet?
(14) Kibin: (Which lasts a total of 17 minutes.)
(14) Kibin: (Meaning 2 of those machines incapacitated each 6 seconds.)
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: Ah, no, it doesn't ... lets see...
(13) Elorin: (until she runs out of 8th level spell slots)
(14) Kibin: (True.)
(13) Elorin: (and only if they don't disrupt her casting)
(2) GM: the shoppekeeper pulls out a book, and looks something up....
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: Ah, here it is; 1,500 gold crowns.
(16) Kaylin: And as one last thing, however many pieces of parchment a gold crown will buy.
** (14) Kibin gets bored again and goes look at the various magic items on sale here. **
(16) Kaylin: Never can have enough...
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: 14,950 gold crowns for the scrolls, use of one of my spellbooks, and the focus. Oh, a gold crown will buy about five pieces of parchment from the local tannery.
(16) Kaylin: Wonderful. Will these do?
** (16) Kaylin hands over a few gp to see... **
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: Yeah, those have the right weight to them.
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: Odd design, though; did you make them yourself?
(16) Kaylin: No, they're from the Material plane.
** (15) Eldon Quickfoot thinks about how one would make war without leaders. **
(14) Kibin: We come from a spooky dimension, far far away. Ooo.
(16) Kaylin: Standard currency there and I frequent the plane.
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: Wait a minute - you're still mortal?
(16) Kaylin: Technically, I suppose so.
(2) GM: Dinner - gotta go.
(16) Kaylin: Is that a problem
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Kibin, don't make trouble with the locals. They outnumber you and are prone to strangeness.)
(13) Elorin: (is this another afterlife plane?)
** (16) Kaylin waves 15000 GP in the shopkeeper's face... **
(14) Kibin: (I'm just goofing around.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Oh, good. That means everyone can look at my new class. I worked very, very, very a little hard on it. :D)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Basically, just took the skeleton of the warlock class and reversed the alignment.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Up to 9d6 of healing at will. Touch range only, though.)
(16) Kaylin: (hmmm, almost dinnertime for me too)
(16) Kaylin: (Kaylin is a happy wizardess... all these shiny new spells to play with)
(16) Kaylin: (assuming there isn't a problem by coming from another plane)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (My munchkin likes wizards. Wish!)
(14) Kibin: (All I need is treasure to be happy.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (...I don't think Eldon is very happy inside.)
(13) Elorin: (bah, Wish costs 5000 gp for anything. Miracle is much better :P)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (I think inside he is an angry hobbit.)
(13) Elorin: (er, xp, not gp)
(16) Kaylin: (miracle. psh.)
(16) Kaylin: (basically a glorified shadow evocation *cough* *insult divineness*)
(14) Kibin: (Holy crap. Miracle has no XP requirement for non-powerful effects.)
(14) Kibin: (Any cleric spell of 8th or lower, any other spell of 7th or lower... undo the harmful effects of practically anything...)
(13) Elorin: (and the powerful effects can include things like "Swinging the tide of a battle in your favor by raising fallen allies to continue fighting.")
(13) Elorin: (on the face of things, that sounds like Mass True Ressurrection, or Mass Resurrection at the very least)
(14) Kibin: (Yup. Ressurecting an entire army, now THAT'S handy.)
(16) Kaylin: (This reminds me of the scene in Good omens where Aziraphale gets blood on his shirt, and Crowley tells him to 'miracle it away')
(14) Kibin: (Or you could simply advert a major natural disaster. Like a volcano erupting.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Probably only for the duration of the battle. But in any case, some uses of either spell are waaay too powerfull.)
(16) Kaylin: (wish doesn't have that pesky alignment limitation...)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (No, seriously - Someone critic my class, please.)
(14) Kibin: (Of course, wish can replicate a material component of up to 10,000. :)
(16) Kaylin: (link, Eldon?)
(13) Elorin: (of course, there is the caveat that the diety might refuse, but if I stick to things that further the cause of good, I think it would probably work just fine)
(14) Kibin: (Yup. :)
(13) Elorin: (and I've heard of some DM's house ruling that deities get annoyed if you bother them by requesting Miracles too often :P)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Oh, sorry. http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB23&Number=301623&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=130 )
(16) Kaylin: (I'd certainly get irritated if asked for too many miracles)
(14) Kibin: (Heh. With wish, Kaylin can teleport 17 targets from anywhere in the plane, and place them anywhere else on any other plane.)
(14) Kibin: (And you don't honestly ask me to copy paste that, do you?)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (How do I turn it into a link, again?)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (link?)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Nope)
(13) Elorin: (a href="link")title(/a)
(14) Kibin: (The href thingie?)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Thanks.
(13) Elorin: (replace the parens with angle brackets)
(16) Kaylin: (with angle braces)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (a href="http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB23&Number=301623&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=130")New Class(/a))
(14) Kibin: (You can also create the material components of true ressurection with a wish.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: New Class
(13) Elorin: (already done that)
(13) Elorin: (had the Pit Fiend do it for us)
(16) Kaylin: (When Wish says it can create a magic item... what are the limits on that?)
(13) Elorin: (no limit except the xp cost)
(14) Kibin: (Double the XP cost plus 5000.)
(14) Kibin: (Other than that, nothing.)
(16) Kaylin: (*purr*)
(13) Elorin: (costs the normal 5000 for Wish plus twice the normal crafting cost)
(14) Kibin: (5000 XP is EXPENSIVE.)
(14) Kibin: (And it's XP cost only.)
(14) Kibin: (Not gold cost.)
(14) Kibin: (It would be good, if restorative touch couldn't affect themselves.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Basically, Wish is wish fullfillment.)
(13) Elorin: (I'll be back in a little while)
(14) Kibin: (I can probally cast wish in about 1,200 years or so. :P)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Why not?)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Oh, right.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Invulnerability. I guess I'm asleep.)
(14) Kibin: (9d6 health for themselves every round? Way too powerful.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Would changing the temporary HP so it works as healing on them be too powerfull?)
(14) Kibin: (Probally because it's at will.)
(14) Kibin: (Nah, it's fine the way it is I think.)
(14) Kibin: (You might could replace it with regeneration, however.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Maybe translate the healing the warlock can do...)
(14) Kibin: (That way, they don't need healing, and the player would like the fact that they're very resistant to dying.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (The fifteenth and nineteenth levels are open...Could add in Regeneration there...)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (15th and 18th, actually. Reg 1 and then 2.)
(14) Kibin: (Sounds good.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Thanks. Anything else?)
(14) Kibin: (Uh...)
(14) Kibin: (Their fortitude save seems a little low.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Heh. Add those temporary HP to Heroes' Feast...)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, but wouldn't that overpower them?)
(14) Kibin: (After all, they ARE receptacles of light.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Or I could change the magic resist to work on all non-Good spells, drop the Will save and raise the Fort save...)
(14) Kibin: (Good saves for will and fortitude, poor saves for reflec?)
(14) Kibin: (Reflex*)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, but I'm worried about overpowering them.)
(14) Kibin: (How about a portable death ward effect instead?)
(14) Kibin: (Maybe for themselves only.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Instead of Resist Evil?)
(14) Kibin: (Yeah.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Can you post that to the thread so I'll remember to think about it? Thanks.)
(14) Kibin: (Remove detect magic maybe, make the whole class oriented on healing and protection...)
(14) Kibin: (Kind of like an extremely specialized cleric.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Remove detect magic, change Resist Evil to Death Ward #/day...That might work.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hmm...Permanent Death Ward for them, or #/day for everybody?)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Maybe for them only the first time, then 1/day at 10th and 2/day at 19th...)
(14) Kibin: (No, I was thinking of a radius death ward effect.)
(2) GM: Back.
(14) Kibin: (Like the paladins field to resist fear effects.)
(14) Kibin: (Except more powerful, since this character just helps other characters, it doesn't have any fighting capability itself...)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hey Jack, can you take a look at my new class when you have time? Thanks. >New Class
)
(16) Kaylin: (yay)
(14) Kibin: (Woot! GM's back!)
(14) Kibin: (Heh, any reply to my spooky dimension comment? :P)
(16) Kaylin: (I hope he ignored it...)
(16) Kaylin: (Trying to get some spells here, won't help to freak out the seller :)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (5 feet, then 10 feet.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Radius)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, not going to be able to do much damage. A few debuffs, but that's it. And probably only on Evil characters.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Although they could do a number on undead... :D )
(2) GM: At will, unlimited healing (1d6 at a time, bu still....), at first level? Makes an overpowered 1-level dip for a fighter, barbarian, or many others where their daily allotment of abilities basically amount to their HP.
(14) Kibin: (Suggested it only worked on other people.)
(14) Kibin: (Off track here...)
(2) GM: Okay; a really, really good cohort, then. Still...
(14) Kibin: (Back to them being at awe we're on the material plane. :P)
(2) GM:

(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: Strange; most people here are petitioners, having been dead for quite some time. What's happened on the Prime in the last few millenia?
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Change the first-level healing to 1d4?)
(14) Kibin: Prime? What's that?
(13) Elorin: (Prime Material Plane)
(16) Kaylin: Well... we've been under attack by large metallic machines...
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: Sorry; shortcut for "prime material", where most new souls come from.
(16) Kaylin: My friends and I have been travelling around looking for a way that we can actually defend ourselves - these invaders are very powerful.
(14) Kibin: Uh. You mean the material plane?
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: This plane is quite material. The Prime material, however, is different. People live there. Die, too, but they Live!
(14) Kibin: I'm hopefully going to live for a few thousand years longer...
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: And dying's not so bad.... part of how I got here.
** (16) Kaylin tries to shush Kibin before he seriously offends everyone here **
(16) Kaylin: (some people might be a bit touchy about dying...)
(16) Kaylin: Really? You used to live on the Prime plane, then?
(2) GM: Shopppekeeper: Most of us aren't permitted to remember it too much. Some of the especially devoted are permitted to keep what they knew to better server.
(16) Kaylin: Ohh... I see...
(16) Kaylin: *coughs slightly* Sorry, where were we?
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (The D&D pantheon is basically a protection racket.)
** (13) Elorin imagines Kaylin's crestfallen expression as she learns she isn't going to be able to do tons of research on ancient history here :P **
(16) Kaylin: 14,950 gold crowns, was it?
** (14) Kibin wonders what plane he ended up on the two times he's died. **
(16) Kaylin: (dang! There goes a chance for some papers :P)
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: Yes that was the total. One scroll each of Shapechange and Gate, a loan of a book with Resilient Sphere, and one focus for Shapechange.
** (16) Kaylin digs out the monies and hands them over **
(2) GM: The shoppekeeper hands over the scrolls and focus, and shows Kaylin to a quiet room where she can work.
** (14) Kibin wonders why people die of old age on the material plane, when they seem to pretty much do the same stuff in the afterlife. **
(16) Kaylin: Thank you, good sir.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (It's D&D. It doesn't need an explanation.)
(14) Kibin: (Yes it does.)
(14) Kibin: (The dracomicon goes into detail of practically every physical detail of dragons.)
(2) GM: Shoppekeeper: No, thank you; been a while since I made such a sale.
(2) GM: (Why did he ask for a time range of "millenia" on what's been happening?)
** (16) Kaylin smiles and begins copying the spell into her spellbook **
(16) Kaylin: (probably doesn't remember how long it's been since he died?)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (He's been here a while?)
(2) GM: And what's everyone else doing for the next eight hours?
(16) Kaylin: (erm, just to confirm, that's Telekinetic Sphere, right?)
(2) GM: Yeah; Sor/Wiz 8.
** (14) Kibin tries finding something interesting to do in the city. **
** (13) Elorin is helping Eldon get the machine out of that complex with Comprehend Languages to help with piloting **
(16) Kaylin: (OK.)
(2) GM: [1d100] -> [53] = (53)
(2) GM: It's still there when you return.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Presumably, we're going to take it through the portal, then take it back through the portal.)
(14) Kibin: (I thought we were going to rest here?)
(16) Kaylin: (this seems like a nice plane to rest in)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: ((Take it back when we leave.)
(2) GM: Well, Kaylin's kinda planning on spending the next three days working.....
(16) Kaylin: (easiest thing to do is tomorrow, Plane Shift back to the Material Plane, then use a crafting portal to scribe and prepare Gate, then Plane Shift back here, Gate everything back)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (So me and Eldon are going to play 'Watch the prisoner, watch the machine'.)
(13) Elorin: (you and yourself? :P)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Presumably, we'll also feed the prisoner. Eldon will also study the machine.)
(14) Kibin: (And I'm going to play "Find something to entertain self")
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Me and Elorin.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, but you do that all the time.)
(2) GM: Town's quite dull, really; lots of people buying, selling, and making things. No real drinking, gambling, or other standard vices, though.
** (14) Kibin sees if there's any books to read to pass the time. **
** (13) Elorin tries to devise an aerial race course for himself and Kibin, deliberately putting in lots of sharp turns, and challenges Kibin to a race **
(2) GM: Spellcraft? You're likely to make the DC.... 23 Spellcraft check for Telekinetic Sphere, and DC 24's for Gate and Shapechange on a roll of _1_, but hey.....
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (No Role-Playing Games?)
(14) Kibin: (Ooo, races.)
(16) Kaylin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+33] -> [20,33] = (53)
(16) Kaylin: (hah.)
** (14) Kibin accepts the race. Fun! :) **
(2) GM: Let's see.... what is, it, 120 Average Manueverability vs. 60 Good, or 60 Perfect vs. 60 good?
(13) Elorin: (oh, about your comment of being able to cast Wish in 1200 years or so, Kibin, take a look at this guy. Senor Vorpal Kickass'o won't be casting Wish until level 187 if he continues his current build :P)
(14) Kibin: (100 average or 50 perfect vs 60 good.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (I wonder if Eldon could invent RPG's...)
(16) Kaylin: (dinnertime, back as soon as possible)
(2) GM: (Umm, yeah - that's Monster Manual vs. Player's Head time. Unabridged Dictionary, if available.)
(14) Kibin: (Now if only I had wingover...)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (LOL)
(13) Elorin: (commenting about the 1st level character with 11 classes? :P)
(13) Elorin: (1/11th of a level in each, hehe)
(16) Kaylin: (bwahaha, that's awesome Elorin)
(14) Kibin: (Heh. If I wanted to annoy him, I could possibly shapeshift into an exact copy of Elorin. :)
(2) GM: Ah, Fly 100(average), Hover 50 (perfect), vs. Fly 60 Good.......
(13) Elorin: (and somehow ignoring the conflicting alignment requirements of several of those 11 base classes)
(2) GM: Hmm.... endurance course or agility course?
(13) Elorin: (I've read the forum speculations that his alignment is also a blend, 1/9th of each :P)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (He's only 1/11th lawfull good, 1/11th chaotic...)
(13) Elorin: (no, there are only 9 alignments)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (I'm still laughing.)
(13) Elorin: (so 1/9th LG, 1/9 NG, etc.)
(2) GM: Doesn't that average out to TN?
(14) Kibin: (Yeah yeah yeah, talk about that later.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Either that or he hunts down and kills himself...)
(16) Kaylin: (talk about mutiple personality disorders :P)
(16) Kaylin: (ACK! my left arm is evil! *chop*)
(13) Elorin: (but that wouldn't let him take Paladin, Monk, Barbarian, and Bard all at once :P)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah. Multiple multiple personality disorders, even.)
(14) Kibin: (IC! :P)
(13) Elorin: (I designed the course deliberately to give myself an advantage, so tons of sharp turns everywhere)
** (15) Eldon Quickfoot tries to invent RPG's to pass the time. **
(2) GM: Let's see.... at a Hover, Kibin has better manueverability, but Elorin has better speed; with normal flight, Kibin has the better speed (by a lot), but Elorin has better manueverability.......
(14) Kibin: (And I can switch between the two with a move action.)
(14) Kibin: (So fly at full speed, switch to hover to turn in place, resume flying the next turn...)
(2) GM: A move action is _expensive_ in a race; you're actually about balanced on any such course; well, I need a series of 10 dex checks from each of you.
(14) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [2,3] = (5)
(14) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [16,3] = (19)
(14) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [16,3] = (19)
(14) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [20,3] = (23)
(14) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [18,3] = (21)
(14) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [20,3] = (23)
(14) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [7,3] = (10)
(13) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [1,6] = (7)
(13) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [4,6] = (10)
(13) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [7,6] = (13)
(13) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [15,6] = (21)
(13) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [5,6] = (11)
(13) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [2,6] = (8)
(13) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [14,6] = (20)
(13) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [18,6] = (24)
(13) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [3,6] = (9)
(13) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [11,6] = (17)
(14) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [5,3] = (8)
(14) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [3,3] = (6)
(14) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [12,3] = (15)
(14) Kibin: (Die roller slow. :P)
(14) Kibin: (But HA! Two natural 20s!)
(13) Elorin: [7+10+13+21+11+8+20+24+9+17+8+6+15] -> 169
(13) Elorin: 5+19+19+23+21+23+10+8+6+15]
(13) Elorin: [5+19+19+23+21+23+10+8+6+15] -> 149
(14) Kibin: (Meh. You just have +3 points on me.)
(13) Elorin: [7+10+13+21+11+8+20+24+9+17] -> 140
(13) Elorin: (oops, added your last three to mine the first time)
(14) Kibin: (Yay!)
(13) Elorin: (you win by 9. lucky)
(2) GM: Ah, but they are a series of opposed rolls..... most Wins wins, not most Dex total: Elorin (5 vs. 7), Kibin (19vs.10), Kibin (19/13), Kibin (23/21)
(14) Kibin: (You want us to do the rest? :P)
(2) GM: Which ties.
(14) Kibin: (In any place going upwards, I always have the best maneuverability.)
(13) Elorin: yep
(14) Kibin: (50 perfect vs 60 good)
(14) Kibin: (He has to slow down to half speed, I don't.)
(2) GM: Results: 5 7 Elorin
19 10 Kibin
19 13 Kibin
23 21 Kibin
21 11 Kibin
23 8 Kibin
10 20 Elorin
8 24 Elorin
6 9 Elorin
15 17 Elorin

(2) GM: You both cross the finish line simultaneously.
(13) Elorin: (but I get double speed on downward stretches and you don't)
(13) Elorin: (unless you spend a move action to stop hovering)
(14) Kibin: (Actually, ending hovering is a free action.)
(14) Kibin: (You can hover and turn in place with one turn, then go back to flying at full speed the turn after.)
(13) Elorin: (but then you have to spend an action to start again, so it still costs you a bit)
(14) Kibin: (But I get almost double movement on you going up, and almost double movement on you goind down.
(14) Kibin: (With perfect maneuverability going up. :P)
** (14) Kibin hmmms, slowing to just a hover, saying, "I think it was a tie..." **
(16) Kaylin: (Lemme know when 8 hours are up ;)
(13) Elorin: (ah, but what if the downward stretch ends far short of 200 feet and turns sharply enough to require hover to make the turn?)
(14) Kibin: (Or I could just bluff him into thinking I won.)
(2) GM: (It's up once everyone says they're done with the timeframe)
(13) Elorin: (anyway, we amuse ourselves until Kaylin's ready)
(14) Kibin: (But that's not very lawful good.)
(14) Kibin: (Hehe. Are there any clouds?)
(2) GM: Hmm... What's Elorin's Bluff check, and your Sense Motive?
(13) Elorin: Bluff Skill Check: [1d20+4] -> [19,4] = (23)
(2) GM: Yeah; plenty of clouds just over the barrier.
(14) Kibin: Sense Motive Skill Check: [1d20+13] -> [9,13] = (22)
(14) Kibin: (Bleh.)
(13) Elorin: Good race, Kibin, but I think I beat you.
(13) Elorin: (:P)
(2) GM: Difference of 9 on the modifier, 10 on the roll.....
(2) GM: Jason: Care for a race on a course of my design?
(14) Kibin: Meh. You wouldn't do so well if I made the course, instead of you.
(14) Kibin: Sure...
(13) Elorin: You'd just make it a long straight line.
(2) GM: Jason: Oh, it could be shorter, if you don't mind a few walls......
(13) Elorin: (that was to Kibin)
(14) Kibin: Walls?
(2) GM: Jason: Which would you prefer? A convoluted course, or a particularly long one?
(14) Kibin: I would do a lot better than Elorin on a long straight line, as he said...
(13) Elorin: Convoluted.
(14) Kibin: (15 minutes till I need to go...)
(13) Elorin: (we wouldn't get much plot done in that time anyway, so let's just have fun with this)
(14) Kibin: (Yeah. :)
(2) GM: Jason makes the course. A nice, straight, hundred mile stretch.
(2) GM: He then fakes a Phantom Steed for himself.
(2) GM: Jason: Are you ready?
(13) Elorin: (how fast does that go?)
(2) GM: (240 average)
(13) Elorin: (and he can run for x4?)
(14) Kibin: Hey, you're in this race?
(2) GM: 24 mph at a walk. 48 at a hustle.
(2) GM: Jason: Of course. Elorin made a course to play to his strengths, I make a course to play to mine.
(2) GM: Can't run over long distances (like a hundred mile course).
(13) Elorin: All right.
(13) Elorin: Elorin casts Wind Walk ( level 6, "You and your allies turn vaporous and travel fast" )
(13) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(13) Elorin: I'm ready. Let's go.
(14) Kibin: Hmmmph.
(14) Kibin: How about no spells?
(2) GM: Jason: That wouldn't play to my strengths at all.....
(2) GM: Jason: Ready?
(13) Elorin: Yes
(14) Kibin: Meh. Good exercise anyway...
(2) GM: At the drop of the hat, you all take off.
** (13) Elorin moves at 60 mph **
** (14) Kibin plods along at a slow 20 miles an hour. **
(2) GM: And of course, Elorin reaches the finish line first, followed by Jason and Kibin. About an hour and forty minutes for Elorin, Two hours and ten for Jason, and five hours for Kibin.
(2) GM: Jason: Good show.
(13) Elorin: What took you so long? I've been waiting half an hour. :P
(14) Kibin: (Discounting any fortitude saves for hustling 5 hours...)
(2) GM: Jason: Would you prefer I made an interplanar course? I can walk the planes, to a degree.....
(13) Elorin: "To a degree"?
(14) Kibin: (Oh wait, no fortitude saves.)
(2) GM: Jason: Yes, they have to border the plane of shadow... but the astral borders the plane of shadow, and the astral borders all planes, so.....
(14) Kibin: (Just 15 points of nonlethal damage.)
** (14) Kibin comes about 3 hours after Jason, panting from basically jogging for five hours. **
(2) GM: Jason: Ah, you look well. Good for you to finally show up. We were getting worried.
** (13) Elorin was expecting Jason to make a course where the by far shortest route went through solid obstacles **
(2) GM: Jason: I can hardly make it impossible... but Kibin wanted something with a nice long stretch, so......
(14) Kibin: Meh. Give me a few hundred years, and I could probally just teleport...
(2) GM: Jason: Oh, you mean like....
(2) GM: Dimension Door, Level 4: Teleports you short distance
(13) Elorin: (I would have just used Etherial Jaunt to bypass the obstacles :P)
(2) GM: Jason appears on the other side of Kibin.
(2) GM: Jason: This?
(14) Kibin: Yes. That.
(2) GM: Jason: Why wait?
(14) Kibin: What do you mean, why wait?
(2) GM: Jason: Why wait a few hundred years to Teleport? It's simple enough. Speaking of which...... Elorin, I have a vague memory of you being able to do exactly nothing when behind a Wall of Force....
(2) GM: Jason: Perchance you could get some teleportation installed in your cloak?
(14) Kibin: (Gotta go...)
(2) GM: Have fun. See you next week?
** (14) Kibin says, "Too expensive." **
(14) Kibin: (Yeah, probally.)
(14) Kibin: Ooo, shiney button...
(14) Kibin (exit): 19:37
(13) Elorin: (hmm, I don't see any teleportation-type cloaks in the SRD)
(16) Kaylin: (So... any chance we could FFW through me Planeshifting back, doing all that scribey stuff, and whatnot, without having to roleplay it out?)
(2) GM: Cloak of the Monteback
(2) GM: Just dimension door 1/day, but still.... gets out of the pesky problem of the ForceCage.
(2) GM: Yeah - sure; Plane Shift to Prime Material, Scribe stuff, come back.
(2) GM: About 10k, as I recall. Jason has the spell, you have the feat.....
(16) Kaylin: (so that's me down 100 GP...)
(2) GM: Yep. Total you've spent this session amounts to 15,050 gp.
(13) Elorin: (ah, there it is, Cape of the Mountebank)
(2) GM: Ah, figures I was misremembering something.
(13) Elorin: That would be a good idea.
(16) Kaylin: (spendy...)
(2) GM: past about level 2, everyone in the party needs a potion of invisibility; past about level 6-10, everyone needs some way to fly; past about level 10-15, everyone needs some way to go from point A to point B without crossing the intervening distance.
(13) Elorin: (Past about everyone needs a way to get the hell out of the way when an epic area mega-dispel goes off :P)
(2) GM: (That would be a Contingent Teleport......)
(16) Kaylin: (Hehehe)
(16) Kaylin: (OK, this is just for the sake of keeping track of cast stuff)
(16) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Plane Shift ( level 7, "Up to eight subjects travel to another plane." )
(16) Kaylin: (back to the Bylathia or whatever, where the gang is)
(13) Elorin: Arin'Ra's Spellreaver
(2) GM: Well, it's presumed you stop and prepare spells at some point in the Crafting Portal.
(16) Kaylin: (I did)
(16) Kaylin: (this is afterwards)
(16) Kaylin: (I need to fetch everyone, right? :)
(16) Kaylin: (Do I have enough of a mental picture to Teleport to the mech or should I scry?)
** (13) Elorin suggests preparing Sending to contact a higher-up celestial at some point **
(13) Elorin: (maybe that Planetar the Old Man summoned to resurrect his new girlfriend)
(2) GM: Oh, you can just teleport to the location; You're looking at about the viewed casually line.
(13) Elorin: (and prepare Gate so you can ask where to meet and get there immediately regardless of where)
(16) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Teleport ( level 5, "Instantly transports you anywhere." )
(16) Kaylin: [1d100] -> [76] = (76)
(2) GM: Which is on target.
(16) Kaylin: Hello... everyone ready to go back to the Material plane?
(2) GM: Jason: Oh, I suppose.
(13) Elorin: I'm not sure we should go there immediately.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: "Yes."
(16) Kaylin: There a reason we shouldn't?
(13) Elorin: We want to inform someone in the celestial army about what we've learned, and that will probably take longer than the duration of a Summon Monster spell, so we should try to arrange meeting one by other means.
(13) Elorin: I'd suggest getting in touch with a Sending and asking where to meet, then Gating there.
(16) Kaylin: I don't have that spell available to me, though.
(13) Elorin: (er, you've used Sending before, and you just got Gate...)
(16) Kaylin: (oh... wait, yes I do...)
(16) Kaylin: (spell list is getting a little bit too long)
(16) Kaylin: Well, I left a few spells unprepared for today.
(16) Kaylin: Who should we contact?
(13) Elorin: Plus, I'm pretty sure that machine's immunity to magic won't interfere with passing through a Gate like it might with Plane Shift.
(13) Elorin: With what we have to say, the real higher-ups probably want to know, and the highest ranked celestial we've met that I recall would be the Planetar that the Old Man had revive his silver dragon girlfriend.
(16) Kaylin: Very well then. I shall prepare a Sending.
** (16) Kaylin begins preparing it **
(2) GM: And fifteen minutes later, she's done.
(16) Kaylin: (15 minutes later...)
(13) Elorin: (let's see, 25 words...)
(16) Kaylin: all right... composition of the message is important.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (BRB)
(16) Kaylin: What about "We have uncovered interesting information regarding the machine invaders controlled by gnome riders. Please specify a meeting point so we might discuss this matter."?
(2) GM: 24 words......
(13) Elorin: "Discovered where invaders are from, how to get there and captured a combat machine. Want to meet to explain more. Where? Not overly lawful plane."
(16) Kaylin: That's a better message, certainly.
(13) Elorin: Being very terse is almost required in messages like this, as long as it doesn't obscure meaning.
(2) GM: 25 words, and the limit.
(16) Kaylin: All right. It is agreed.
(16) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Sending ( level 5, "Delivers short message anywhere, instantly." )
whispering to Kaylin, Response: Heroic Domains of Ysgard, Alfheim, Main doors of Hall of the Valiant.
(13) Elorin: (Gate is your prepared 9th level spell for today, right?)
(16) Kaylin: We've been asked to meet at the main doors of the Hall of the Valiant.
(16) Kaylin: (yep)
(13) Elorin: Ok then, Eldon, suit up after I cast this...
(13) Elorin: Elorin casts Comprehend Languages ( level 1, "You understand all spoken and written languages" )
(13) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 1 Spell ( level 1, "Spell slot tracking device" )
** (15) Eldon Quickfoot suits up. **
(2) GM: The machine swallows him quite eagerly....
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (How about we continue this next week? It's 8:00 and I'm tired.)
** (15) Eldon Quickfoot makes sure he can exit. **
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [7,8] = (15)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [4,8] = (12)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [11,8] = (19)
(2) GM: Okay. Tune in next week, same Crazy time, same Crazy channel.
(16) Kaylin: (it was fun)
(2) GM: yeah, you can get out, no problem.
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Bye for now.)
(15) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yes, it was. Still is, even.)
(2) GM:

(15) Eldon Quickfoot: Disconnecting from server...
(15) Eldon Quickfoot (exit): 20:10
