Server Administrator-> You have connected to an OpenRPG server, version '1.6.1'.
Welcome to Jack Simth's temporary server!
I put this up just for
a short gaming session on Saturday, and stop it after.
Session is schedualed for 10 AM Pacific Standard Time.
(1) Kibin (enter): 10:06
(3) Jack Simth: Morning.
(1) Kibin: You're late?
(3) Jack Simth: Looks like.
(1) Kibin: "Why do dragons live in the middle of nowhere? I can give you three reasons. Knights, whiny princesses, and traveling salesmen."
(1) Kibin: Fourm signature over at keenspot.
(1) Kibin: Wonder where everyone else is at.
(1) Kibin: :P
(1) Kibin: And I think I finnally fixed those disconnections, too...
(1) Kibin: COMEON PEOPLE
(3) Jack Simth: What, you want me to see if I can cast Summon Players?
(1) Kibin: Yeah.
(1) Kibin: That would be nice.
(3) Jack Simth: Sorry, not one I selected at my last level up.
(1) Kibin: Meh.
(1) Kibin: Where ARE them all?
(1) Kibin: Ladadeda, more waiting.
(1) Kibin: Have any way to contact the playesr other than the fourms?
(3) Jack Simth: Not I, no.
(1) Kibin: Maybe everyone collectively decided to sleep in late.
(3) Jack Simth: Well, it's half an hour past.... I'm tempted to just call it a day and see if they need a hand over at church.
(1) Kibin: Noooooooo.
(1) Kibin: The instant you leave, everyone will start posting on the forums saying they're late for whatever reason.
(4) Thona (enter): 10:49
(4) Thona: Disconnecting from server...
(4) Thona (exit): 10:50
(1) Kibin: Oookay.
(5) Thona (enter): 10:50
(5) Thona: Disconnecting from server...
(5) Thona (exit): 10:50
(1) Kibin: Why do people keep doing that?
(3) Jack Simth: Don't know. Perhaps next time you could ask when someone does.
(1) Kibin: Meh. They do it too quickly.
(1) Kibin: Dang it, where is everyone?
(1) Kibin: Narf was the only one saying he won't be here much...
(6) Trelian (enter): 11:02
(1) Kibin: Hello?
(6) Trelian: Disconnecting from server...
(6) Trelian (exit): 11:02
(7) Elorin (enter): 11:06
(1) Kibin: Finnally...
(7) Elorin: Sorry, was registering for summer classes and discussing it with mom
(1) Kibin: Not to worry, Violist is missing too...
(1) Kibin: Now we need to wake Jack Simth up. Yoohoo!
(3) Jack Simth: Watching lightly.
(1) Kibin: Hmmm, now if only Kaylin can wake up...
(7) Elorin: It's really annoying when the entire curriculum for your major gets rearranged two class semesters before your planned graduation.
(1) Kibin: I can imagine so.
(7) Elorin: I'll have to find an academic adviser monday to figure out what I actually need to graduate.
(7) Elorin: By the old schedule, I only have a few things left to do.
(7) Elorin: By the new "Threads" system, I'd have to take at least about one full semester's worth of extra classes to qualify, I think
(1) Kibin: I'm going to college in the fall. :)
(7) Elorin: Incoming freshman?
(1) Kibin: Technically college. Morel ike go to college to get some credits for high school.
(7) Elorin: Advanced placement?
(1) Kibin: I'm a junior in high school right now, and only 16. : )
(7) Elorin: Just finished junior year, or just starting it in the fall?
(1) Kibin: ALmost finished junior year, senior year soon.
(7) Elorin: Ah. I was 17 at the end of junior year in high school.
(7) Elorin: Didn't think it was worth the effort to trying skipping a grade that late like my older sister did.
(1) Kibin: I go to school on the internet.
(7) Elorin: I was a year ahead in the math curriculum, though.
(1) Kibin: Math is easy.
(7) Elorin: It was mildly annoying to have to take AP Statistics just because the freshman-level course I took in middle school didn't count towards the required four years of math
(1) Kibin: Interesting.
(7) Elorin: That was my easiest 5 on AP exams
(7) Elorin: The class itself almost seemed like a joke after AP Calculus BC
(1) Kibin: I haven't done any calculus yet, still on algebra II.
(8) Kaylin (enter): 11:26
(8) Kaylin: Sorry I'm late, slept in
(1) Kibin: Sleepy?
(8) Kaylin: You didn't wait for me, did you? o.o
(1) Kibin: Well, seeing as how Elorin was an hour late, Narf isn't coming, and I have nothing else to do today?
(8) Kaylin: Ah.
(1) Kibin: But... YAY! Mostly full party! :)
** (1) Kibin pokes the GM. **
(3) Jack Simth: Well, probably about that time, then....
Moving to room 'D and D'..
(3) Jack Simth (enter): 11:29
Server Administrator->
Welcome to Jack Simth's temporary server!
I put this up just for
a short gaming session on Saturday, and stop it after.
Session is schedualed for 10 AM Pacific Standard Time.
(7) Elorin (enter): 11:29
(8) Kaylin (enter): 11:29
(1) Kibin (enter): 11:30
(1) Kibin: (And I think I finnally fixed disconnect problem yay!)
(3) Jack Simth: When we last left our heroes, they were back in the odd space between realms, standing over the enterence to the plane they originiated from.... minus Jason.
(3) Jack Simth: All spells with a non-permanent duration having expired at some unknown point.....
** (1) Kibin casts Detect Magic on the portal just to see something. **
(1) Kibin: (*pokes GM*)
whispering to Kibin, There's an overwhelming magic in the area, that simply refuses to be localized no matter how long you look.
whispering to Kibin, And make a Will save.
(1) Kibin: Will save: [1d20+16] -> [9,16] = (25)
whispering to Kibin, It's quite bright, but you can deal with it.
** (1) Kibin stops concentrating, saying, "Yup, lots and lots and lots of magic here..." **
(3) Jack Simth: The portal continues to glow, the walls, floor, and cieling continue to be that oddly transparent material that you see only blackness through.
(1) Kibin: (*pokes other people*)
whispering to Jack Simth, [2d4] -> [1,1] = (2)
(1) Kibin: (Hello?)
(3) GM: Hello.
(7) Elorin: Well, at least we discovered a few things.
(1) Kibin: Like don't use detect magic here...
(7) Elorin: It was my impression that the only reason they'll listen to is nonprofitability.
(7) Elorin: and the effect that makes destroyed mechs on other planes just come back is apparantly an effect of this place rather than something built into the machines
(1) Kibin: So... we can do whatever we want on the other planes then....
(7) Elorin: It would be nice to know how much time we lost when that happened, though.
(1) Kibin: Toss you into a portal to the negative energy plane, see how long it takes you to come back here?
(7) Elorin: No thanks
(1) Kibin: Okay then...
(1) Kibin: Maybe it's possible to close all the portals?
(7) Elorin: Possible, but probably beyond our means in any reasonable amount of time
(1) Kibin: Hmmmm. Maybe find the creators of this place somewhere?
(1) Kibin: If there are any creators...
(7) Elorin: Let's see, we can try to either close them off or make their invasion cost more than it's worth
(1) Kibin: Or permantly seal them off?
(7) Elorin: If we find some great power that created this place and can negotiate with it, that might work. Other means of closing off their central portal will probably just be worked around eventually.
(1) Kibin: Oh wait, you said that...
(7) Elorin: They figured out how to deal with Jason far too quickly.
(1) Kibin: What does an antimagic field do in this place?
(7) Elorin: They can probably figure out how to take down a Wall of Force too.
(7) Elorin: So, find this place's creator if such exists, or make their invasion cost too much to be worth it.
(7) Elorin: As things are, it's costing them almost nothing because of the properties of this place and how all combat is occuring on planes other than their home
(1) Kibin: I think finding the place's creator would be better.
(7) Elorin: We'd have to stage a counter invasion, which would have to be much larger than just us or would have to go after just one or two small but valuable targets. I don't know how they'd react to kidnapping the Enlightened One, and I'm not sure I want to find out.
(7) Elorin: (brb)
(1) Kibin: (While he's gone, and Kaylin is still away or whatever... What movie should I watch?)
(1) Kibin: (I have all 6 starwars movies, the entire matrix trilogy...)
(1) Kibin: (For matrix movies, we either have combat in the lobby, hundreds of agent smiths fighting neo, or that cool thing where they fight in midair.)
(1) Kibin: (Ideas?)
(1) Kibin: (Matrix revolutions has a lot of boring filler stuff near the beginning...)
(1) Kibin: (Meh, I'll just watch the third one.)
(1) Kibin: (*pokes Elorin*)
(1) Kibin: (Anyone here? O.o)
(3) GM: I am, but not up to movie reccomendations.
(1) Kibin: (Okay then.)
(1) Kibin: (Wonder where Elorin is.)
(7) Elorin: (back)
(1) Kibin: (Yay I don't have to talk to myself anymore!)
(8) Kaylin: When you suggest attacking crucial points in the gnome's world, what would you say?
(8) Kaylin: They seem to have a very strong communications chain, so we'd have to move quickly.
(1) Kibin: Not to mention that their plane is probally sealed off now, it seems.
(7) Elorin: The only critical person or place we know of is the Enlightened One.
(7) Elorin: That may just be a reference to how this is the only way in or out.
(7) Elorin: Sealed off from other methods of planar travel.
(8) Kaylin: And if they know where we originate from, attacking thier leader might provoke an extremely vengeful counter-attack from their military.
(1) Kibin: Well, we can go back to the center and see?
(1) Kibin: Seeing as how that's the way we got there in the first place...
(7) Elorin: Sure, but first...
** (7) Elorin tries to activate the Bead of Karma **
(3) GM: Works.
(7) Elorin: (I assume spell slots have not been refreshed?)
(3) GM: They haven't been refreshed, no.
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Divine Favor ( level 1, "You gain +1 per three levels on attack and damage rolls" )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 7 Spell ( level 7, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Greater Magic Weapon ( level 4, "+1 bonus/four levels (max +5)" )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
** (1) Kibin takes out his weapon. **
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Greater Magic Weapon ( level 4, "+1 bonus/four levels (max +5)" )
(1) Kibin: My weapon too?
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(7) Elorin: (just did)
** (1) Kibin keeps his weapon out. "Back to the center?" **
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Magic Vestment ( level 3, "Armor or shield gains +1 enhancement per four levels" )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 3 Spell ( level 3, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(7) Elorin: (that should be everything but Heroes' Feast, I think)
(7) Elorin: Back to the center
** (1) Kibin goes off towards the center, then. **
(8) Kaylin: Ever the enthusiast...
** (8) Kaylin follows Kibin **
(3) GM: Let's see..... [4d100] -> [18,2,33,12] = (65)
(3) GM: [2d4/2] -> 3.0
(3) GM: Two rooms through, you encounter a few scraps, lying on the floor. Seems like, at one time, they were those metal beasts......
(3) GM: The rest of the trip passes uneventfully.
(3) GM: And you wind up in a room quite identical to the rest.
(1) Kibin: (Lol, it's funny if you type /me without anything else)
(It's always all about you, isn't it? No text to emote was provided!)
(1) Kibin: (Anyway...)
** (1) Kibin pokes the tip of his sword through the portal. **
whispering to Kibin, And it hits something solid.
whispering to Kibin, Doesn't get very far.
(1) Kibin: Hey, guess what, it's sealed.
** (1) Kibin takes the sword back out. **
(7) Elorin: Well then, I guess that's the end of the invasions, at least for now.
(1) Kibin: Yes, but for how long?
(7) Elorin: That's the problem.
(1) Kibin: Hmmmm. What's the limits on who you can message?
(7) Elorin: Mr. Enlightened One seemed quite clear that if they sealed it back up it would only be to build up their forces before coming back out again.
(8) Kaylin: (GM, what kind of rolls would I need to make to know how to seal up a portal along these lines?)
(3) GM: His sword actuall did go through the portal, a little. There's numerous ways to cause that particular effect.
(1) Kibin: Kaylin?
(1) Kibin: (*pokes Kaylin*)
(8) Kaylin: Yes?
(1) Kibin: What can you use your message spell to message?
(8) Kaylin: Message? Anything really close by.
(1) Kibin: Oh, wait, that would be sending I'm thinking of...
** (8) Kaylin nods sagely **
(1) Kibin: And who can you message with sending?
(8) Kaylin: Anyone with whom I'm familiar.
(1) Kibin: Ah. So I don't suppose you could message someone you never knew before.
(8) Kaylin: No.
(1) Kibin: Hmmmm.
(1) Kibin: Do you have a disintergrate prepared?
(8) Kaylin: Not at the moment.
(1) Kibin: Ah. Well, disintergate might unseal the portal.
(8) Kaylin: Something physical blocking it on the other side?
(1) Kibin: Yeah.
(1) Kibin: And disintergrate could disintergrate it...
** (8) Kaylin sniffs **
(8) Kaylin: So crude.
(1) Kibin: It's effective.
(8) Kaylin: Not particularly.
(8) Kaylin: Anyways, it seems our work here is paused for a moment.
(1) Kibin: So how easily can most people walk through something solid?
(1) Kibin: Back to Bytopia to rest, I suppose.
** (1) Kibin backtracks back to center, then goes to Bytopia. **
(3) GM: Path?
(1) Kibin: (Same way we walked here.)
(1) Kibin: (Then one D to bytopia.)
(3) GM: Okay. [1d100] -> [93] = (93)
(3) GM: The room's empty, and looks much like the others.
(1) Kibin: (Then... hitting my forehead and wondering how we're going to get down without Jason.)
** (1) Kibin found the F9 macro key **
(8) Kaylin: (Like Feather Fall?)
(1) Kibin: (Then wondering what life was like before magic was discovered.)
** (1) Kibin stops at the portal, and waits for everyone else to come. **
(8) Kaylin: (Hitting things with rocks, I'd guess)
(8) Kaylin: (not that we don't still do that)
(8) Kaylin: (They're just cooler rocks)
(7) Elorin: (we just use much bigger rocks)
(1) Kibin: (I prefer claws or a sword.)
(8) Kaylin: (sword is made from rock :)
(1) Kibin: (Claws aren't made from rock. I think.)
(7) Elorin: (try a whole bunch of boulders shrunk down and stored in a bag of holding sometime. Dump them all out above your target, area dispel the Shrink Item spells, and watch the damage pile up)
(8) Kaylin: (brb, making a cup of tea)
(1) Kibin: (I like the iridum ball more.)
** (1) Kibin pokes his head in the portal to make sure it's the right one. **
(3) GM: Yeah, it is. Nice distance down, too.
** (1) Kibin pokes his head back out. "Anyone here have featherfall?" **
(1) Kibin: (*wills Kaylin to hurry back*)
(8) Kaylin: Yes, I do have a feather fall prepared.
(1) Kibin: Well, can you use it for us to go through?
(8) Kaylin: Of course
** (1) Kibin gets ready to jump through together, then. **
(8) Kaylin: Everyone ready?
(1) Kibin: Elorin has wings at the moment...\
(7) Elorin: Yes
** (7) Elorin flies through **
(8) Kaylin: let's go then
(3) GM: Eldon of course jumps through with Kaylin, trusiting in her skils.
** (1) Kibin jumps through with Kaylin, then. With Eldon too, probally. **
(8) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Feather Fall ( level 1, "Objects or creatures fall slowly." )
(3) GM: And you land safely in an orderly, vegitated area.
(3) GM: Seems to be well cultivated, and growing quite splendidly. Looks about ready for harvest; the apples have turned red, the grain has gone golden, and the corn is just now starting to unpeel itself.
(1) Kibin: That was quick.
(1) Kibin: (*was assuming it didn't look ready for harvest first time we were here*)
(3) GM: No, it was summer.
(3) GM: There's a slight nip in the air, now.
(8) Kaylin: Evidently the rate of time passage differs significantly between this plane and the others we've been on.
(1) Kibin: Are you sure?
(8) Kaylin: Last time we were here it was summer, correct?
(1) Kibin: Okay, are you sure it's this plane, or maybe we were just in limbo for a few weeks.
(8) Kaylin: That seems slightly unreasonable from what we've heard, though possible.
(1) Kibin: Could it be that the mech pilot's safeguards make that time a lot less?
(8) Kaylin: Perhaps.
(1) Kibin: (I was hoping for a knowledge:planes check?)
(8) Kaylin: (Knowledge:Planes would let me know about mech safeties?)
(1) Kibin: (No, it would let you know if time is accelerated here or not. Wake up already.)
(8) Kaylin: (*falls asleep*)
(8) Kaylin: Knowledge: The Planes Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [4,18] = (22)
whispering to Kaylin, No, Bytopia runs on normal time.
(8) Kaylin: (OK, Knowledge checks on the other planes we've been on then...)
(8) Kaylin: Knowledge: The Planes Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [10,18] = (28)
(8) Kaylin: Knowledge: The Planes Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [12,18] = (30)
(8) Kaylin: (The Ysgard one and the Gnome one... any others?)
whispering to Kaylin, For those you're familiar with, Normal time all around. No idea about the Gnomish prison plane you got killed on.
** (8) Kaylin thinks for a moment **
whispering to Kaylin, Nor how time runs in that odd maze-like transporation area.
(8) Kaylin: Well. Sorry, I wasn't thinking earlier. I seem to recall that the planes we've been on all have consistent time with respect to each other, though I don't know about the Gnome's plane or the portal plane.
(1) Kibin: Okay then...
(1) Kibin: I guess we rest here.
(3) GM: [1d100] -> [66] = (66)
(3) GM: The night passes uneventfully.
** (1) Kibin practices with his sword while Kaylin is preparing spells. **
(3) GM: Mind you, there's no stars... or moon... or sun.... but it gets darker, then lighter, so you suppose it was night.
(1) Kibin: (*pokes Kaylin*)
(8) Kaylin: (moment please)
(8) Kaylin: (patience, young grasshopper. Done now)
(1) Kibin: (Wanted to make sure you're alive.)
(8) Kaylin: (For a given value of alive, yes...)
** (1) Kibin waits some more for Kaylin to finish. **
(8) Kaylin: All right. Done now.
(1) Kibin: See, to use a sword, you don't have to study spells for an hour.
(8) Kaylin: And you have to be right next to the enemy.
(1) Kibin: For some spells, you still have to be.
(8) Kaylin: Few... very few...
(1) Kibin: And the enemy COULD be smart enough to walk towards you and kill you.
(8) Kaylin: They should walk very quickly then.
(1) Kibin: Can we go now?
(8) Kaylin: I suppose so.
(7) Elorin: Go do what, though?
(1) Kibin: I would like to see what happens if you use an antimagic field in that place, with all the magic...
(1) Kibin: Maybe it will atract the attention of whoever made the portals?
(1) Kibin: (*pokes people*WAKE UP*)
(8) Kaylin: (Just out of curiosity, I don't seem to be remembering correctly - which place with all the magic?)
** (1) Kibin asks Kaylin, "Can we go to the portals already?" **
(1) Kibin: (Remember what I said a while back about the place with the portals having a LOT of magic?)
(8) Kaylin: Can Elorin fly us up to the portal?
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Wind Walk ( level 6, "You and your allies turn vaporous and travel fast" )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(1) Kibin: A bit hard to fly with a heavy load like a person...
(1) Kibin: Of course, that works too.
** (1) Kibin zooms upward through the portal. **
** (1) Kibin goes back to being solid when he's through. **
** (8) Kaylin clouds through the portal **
(3) GM: And of course, Eldon follows. And you all find yourselves in the portal maze again.
(1) Kibin: (It's not a maze anymore, it's a 4 dimensional hypercube...)
(1) Kibin: (Or 4 dimensional grid.)
(1) Kibin: Elorin, can you try using an antimaigc field in this place?
(7) Elorin: Sure
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Antimagic Field ( level 8, "Negates magic within 10 ft." )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 8 Spell ( level 8, "Spell slot tracking device" )
** (1) Kibin walks back away from Elorin and the antimagic field radius just to make sure. **
(3) GM: [1d20+20] -> [11,20] = (31)
(3) GM: Nothing happens.
** (1) Kibin also stays outside the antimagic field because antimagic fields have a tendency to surpress supernatural effects. **
(7) Elorin: (roll to suppress an epic spell?)
(1) Kibin: Hmmm, something should have happened...
(7) Elorin: Must be very powerful magic
(1) Kibin: You could try a couple more times?
** (7) Elorin dismisses the field **
(7) Elorin: (ah, what the heck)
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Antimagic Field ( level 8, "Negates magic within 10 ft." )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 8 Spell ( level 8, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(3) GM: [1d20+20] -> [6,20] = (26)
(3) GM: Nothing happens.
(7) Elorin: (dismiss and try just one more time)
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Antimagic Field ( level 8, "Negates magic within 10 ft." )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 8 Spell ( level 8, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(3) GM: [1d20+20] -> [7,20] = (27)
(3) GM: Again, nothing happens.
(8) Kaylin: (ouch, what's with these dice)
(1) Kibin: So much for that idea.
(3) GM: [1d20+20] -> [8,20] = (28)
(3) GM: [1d20+20] -> [14,20] = (34)
(3) GM: [1d20+20] -> [5,20] = (25)
(3) GM: [1d20+20] -> [14,20] = (34)
(3) GM: [1d20+20] -> [5,20] = (25)
(3) GM: [100d20] -> [4,4,6,7,4,8,8,3,5,4,20,6,3,5,14,19,20,19,1,4,18,3,20,20,12,18,9,5,20,11,7,3,14,4,15,12,7,20,14,7,16,19,10,9,9,1,7,8,4,2,6,9,2,18,12,13,19,14,17,15,6,15,4,14,18,20,20,10,14,3,11,9,15,11,13,8,12,4,13,16,16,20,14,5,14,10,12,12,12,9,16,20,5,18,2,4,12,10,17,19] = (1096)
(7) Elorin: [50*21] -> 1050
(1) Kibin: So... ideas to contact the creator of this place if any...
(7) Elorin: (so, level up Kaylin 4 times and research an epic spell to solve this problem forever? :P)
(8) Kaylin: (sounds fun)
(7) Elorin: (and abuse the heck out of mitigating factors. Who cares if it takes 100 days to cast and almost kills the caster? It's an out-of-combat spell so it doesn't matter. :P)
(8) Kaylin: (Yeah, you can always cast Heal 6 times a day or something :P)
(1) Kibin: And I don't suppose any of you have ideas.
(7) Elorin: (I don't suppose the maze counts as an "item that once belonged to [Bad dice format] - [its creator]
(7) Elorin: (I don't suppose the maze counts as an "item that once belonged to (its creator)" for Discern Location?)
(1) Kibin: (Uh, why wouldn't it?)
(1) Kibin: (GM?)
(3) GM: You can try. In character, you won't know until it works, or not.
(7) Elorin: Well, I could try Discern Location but I don't have the slightest clue if it will work.
(1) Kibin: And did we have the slightest clue that we could stop the invaders when we came here? Doesn't hurt to give it a try.
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Discern Location ( level 8, "Reveals exact location of creature or object." )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 8 Spell ( level 8, "Spell slot tracking device" )
** (1) Kibin waits for explosions and bad things to happen. **
whispering to Elorin, 652nd level of the Abyss, 826th pit, under four layers of tortured souls.
(7) Elorin: I, um, don't think trying to contact him is a good idea.
(1) Kibin: Uh, why not?
(7) Elorin: 652nd level of the Abyss, 826th pit, under four layers of tortured souls.
(1) Kibin: Wow, he must have been bored.
(1) Kibin: Okay...
(1) Kibin: I guess an invasion of their home plane is the only choice?
(7) Elorin: Apparently
(7) Elorin: If we can get the portal open
(7) Elorin: And, preferably, if we can get a few allies to come with us.
(1) Kibin: Do they know we can disintergrate matter?
** (7) Elorin wonders what the spellcraft DC to cast this epic spell was **
(8) Kaylin: (probably only 200 or so)
(1) Kibin: So I suppose we tell everyone... except anyone evil of course, to come to this plane.
(7) Elorin: Do we know for certain that it's just ordinary matter blocking the portal, and that it's not protected by whatever made the mechs immune to magic?
(1) Kibin: Hmmm.
(1) Kibin: No, we don't.
(7) Elorin: (brb)
(1) Kibin: (Now we wait for him to come back again...)
(7) Elorin: (back)
(1) Kibin: Okay. Maybe we should test that out first...
** (1) Kibin goes off towards the center, then. **
(3) GM: And on the way, you notice the scraps from earlier seem to have been cleaned up.....
(1) Kibin: Maybe we could get the old man to just dispel one of those gates...
(7) Elorin: Hmm.
(7) Elorin: If it's really been as long as it seems since that explosion, maybe the Celestial army has already used the information we left to come here and is scouring the entire complex or something
(1) Kibin: Maybe.
(7) Elorin: Can't think of another reason to find remains of mechs and then come back and see them gone.
(1) Kibin: Kaylin, mind using disintergration now?
(7) Elorin: I think we need to find someone and ask what's been going on in our absence.
(7) Elorin: Maybe we should save that for when we know more of what's going on.
(8) Kaylin: Information is crucial.
(8) Kaylin: Perhaps that angel in Ysgard?
(1) Kibin: Meh, fine.
(7) Elorin: If she's still there.
(7) Elorin: For all we know, she could be leading a war party in here somewhere, or on another plane entirely.
(1) Kibin: Which is why we have magical sending!
(8) Kaylin: How about we get back to the Material Plane so that we know we're not at a different time rate than others?
(1) Kibin: Fine, if you want to...
** (1) Kibin goes back to the portal to the material plane, then... **
(1) Kibin: Of course, we MIGHT want to wait for Jason...
(3) GM: The trip goes uneventfully.
(1) Kibin: Hmmmm. Where's Jason, right now?
(7) Elorin: I checked right after we came to after the explosion. He's still in the ruins of that throne room place.
(1) Kibin: Oh.
(1) Kibin: Where is he now?
(7) Elorin: Probably the same place.
(1) Kibin: Back to material plane then, I guess...
(7) Elorin: (hmm, when I tried Discern Location on that ghost transmuter when he was reviving, I always got some place in the Abyss. I wonder where Jason goes when he's dead)
(1) Kibin: (That was partly what I was wondering.)
(8) Kaylin: (Abyss, I think it was mentioned earlier)
(7) Elorin: (he doesn't seem the type to deserve the punishment of being sent there, though)
** (1) Kibin asks Elorin, "Can you see where I am next time I die?" **
(7) Elorin: ... Sure
** (7) Elorin wonders how soon an insance-DC save-or-die is going to strike Kibin :P **
** (1) Kibin waits to jump through with Kaylin and Eldon, again... **
** (7) Elorin makes sure his Necklace of Adaptation is the one he's wearing **
(1) Kibin: (KAYLIN WAKE UP AGAIN)
(8) Kaylin: (Sorry! It's a really warm day today and I can't bloody focus thoughts)
(7) Elorin: (Wait, why don't we take the portal to Ysgard?)
(7) Elorin: (we know the coordinates, right?)
(1) Kibin: (Because... we don't know if she's still there?)
(1) Kibin: (Plus it's a long walk away. And the portal opens up right above the battlefield.)
(8) Kaylin: (I prefer the Material Plane, being more familiar with it, but we could do that too; I just defaulted to suggesting Material)
** (1) Kibin asks Kaylin, "Are we going to the material plane or not?" **
(8) Kaylin: Do you have a reason for us not to? Seeing as how we're already at the portal...
(1) Kibin: Well, seeing as how if I just jump though, I fall a hundred feet and go splat...
(1) Kibin: Oh, wait.
(7) Elorin: (I only cast Wind Walk this morning at it lasts for 19 hours...)
(7) Elorin: (plus, you can fly in your dragon form)
** (1) Kibin goes into a cloud, then hops through. **
(1) Kibin: (Yes, but I'm not in my dragon form...)
** (8) Kaylin goes through in cloud form **
(3) GM: Inside, the place is filled with a tangy, acridic smoke. Who all's wearing a neclace of adaptation?
(1) Kibin: (Me?)
(8) Kaylin: (me)
(1) Kibin: (Not that it MATTERS, since I don't believe you breathe in cloud form...)
(1) Kibin: (Or maybe you do breathe.)
(3) GM: So everyone's safe and sound, then. Visibility is quite low; after ten feet, everything gets fuzzy; after 20, it's just a smoky haze.
(1) Kibin: (But I have 60 foot blindsense. :)
whispering to Kibin, Blindsense isn't hindered, though. Feels like the same mines, although there seems to have been some more mining since you left.....
** (1) Kibin zooms towards the stairs, and out of the mines. **
(1) Kibin (whispering): Did you know that apparently, blindsense doesn't work when deafened?
(3) GM: A pump pushes you back in; you can't seem to get out in gaseous form.
** (1) Kibin goes back to normal solid form, then... **
** (1) Kibin THEN tries to walk out. **
(3) GM: There is a pump physically in your way.
** (1) Kibin sighs. "Hello, anybody out there?" **
(3) GM: [1d20-4] -> [18,-4] = (14)
(3) GM: Listen check?
(1) Kibin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [10,21] = (31)
whispering to Kibin, You hear some surprised grunts, but the bellows keep pumping smoke in.
(7) Elorin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [7,10] = (17)
(3) GM: Oh, and Kibin - make a Fort save.
(1) Kibin: Fortitude save: [1d20+12] -> [4,12] = (16)
whispering to Elorin, You hear something past the bellows, but you're not sure what.
(1) Kibin: (O.o)
whispering to Kibin, It's getting quite hot. Take [2d6*1.5] -> 4.5 heat damage.
** (1) Kibin casts Endure Elements on himself... **
whispering to Kibin, And the heat simmers down to tolerable levels.
** (1) Kibin asks the people on the other side of the pump, "Could you please let us out?" **
(3) GM: [1d20-4] -> [12,-4] = (8)
(3) GM: They don't seem to hear you.
** (1) Kibin shouts to the people on the other side of the pump, "HEY YOU! CAN YOU LET US OUT OF HERE!" **
** (8) Kaylin drifts over to the pump **
(3) GM: [1d20-4] -> [17,-4] = (13)
(3) GM: The bellows stop for a bit....
(3) GM: Then you hear a grinding, and see daylight, and some dwarves.
(3) GM: Who steps into the light first?
** (1) Kibin walks out, then... **
(1) Kibin: (I gladly sacrifice myself in the line of duty...)
** (8) Kaylin clouds out behind him **
(3) GM: It's the dwarves again, with longer beards, busily working away.
(3) GM: Dwarves: The betrayers!
(7) Elorin: It was an accident!
(8) Kaylin: (oh crap)
(3) GM: They start hammering the ground with picks.
(7) Elorin: You have no idea how complicated the controls for those things are
(1) Kibin: Yeah, I pressed the wrong button...
** (1) Kibin thinks, "Oh crap." **
** (8) Kaylin clouds away from the argument a bit **
** (1) Kibin walks away from the ground they're hammering... **
(3) GM: Then they run off.
(1) Kibin: (But not into the mines.)
(3) GM: Shortly thereafter, you hear a rumbling.
** (8) Kaylin gives pursuit **
(3) GM: As they only have a 20 foot move score, that's not particularly difficult....
** (1) Kibin runs away from the ground where they were hammering? **
** (7) Elorin starts flying **
(3) GM: Eldon also gets away.....
(3) GM: And you all see the ground collapsing behind you. And collapsing.... and collapsing. It seems to be spreading, dropping all the ground in the area.
** (1) Kibin runs faster. **
(3) GM: And dex checks, everyone?
(3) GM: [1d20+1] -> [17,1] = (18)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+7] -> [16,7] = (23)
(7) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [19,6] = (25)
(3) GM: [1d20+2] -> [18,2] = (20)
(3) GM: Kaylin? Dex check?
(8) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [5,2] = (7)
(3) GM: And Kaylin gets caught in the collapsing ground, but everyone else runs away fast enough.
(3) GM: Take [15d6] -> [1,4,1,2,6,3,3,2,5,4,3,4,1,5,5] = (49) bludgeoning damage, and make a Reflex save.
** (1) Kibin looks back, and hopes that Kaylin prepared extra featherfalls... **
(8) Kaylin: Reflex save: [1d20+11] -> [15,11] = (26)
(8) Kaylin: (I'm still in cloud form... DR/10 magic)
(1) Kibin: (Oh yeah. Lol.)
(3) GM: Rockslide; they're hitting her, not vice-versa.
(1) Kibin: (Then she just floats. :)
(1) Kibin: (But I'm not in cloud form. :(
(3) GM: But she manages not to get caught up in them.
(3) GM: The dwarves continue running, into a forested area.
(1) Kibin: (Has the ground stopped collapsing now?)
(3) GM: Yeah, it only collapsed in an area roughly three hundred feet in diameter.
** (1) Kibin then runs to catch up with the dwarves. **
** (8) Kaylin declouds **
(8) Kaylin: (5 rounds... ick)
(3) GM: And upon entering the forest........ Spot check?
(1) Kibin: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [12,18] = (30)
(1) Kibin: (And of course I switched out the necklace of adaptation. :P)
whispering to Kibin, There are lots of dwarves trying vainly to conceal themselves; and they're all armed and armored.
whispering to Kibin, Waiting.
** (1) Kibin stops, sighing. **
** (1) Kibin looks around for Kaylin. **
** (8) Kaylin runs to catch up after becoming material again **
** (1) Kibin then waits for Elorin... **
** (7) Elorin follows **
** (1) Kibin hmmms, and goes ahead and walks ahead. **
(3) GM: Without warning anyone? Fun. Surprise round; Kibin and the dwarves in hiding get to act.....
(3) GM: Roll for initiative.
(7) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [16,6] = (22)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+7] -> [16,7] = (23)
(3) GM: [1d20+5] -> [2,5] = (7)
(8) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [12,2] = (14)
(1) Kibin: (I'm ahead, so it's reasonable to assume that I would probally be attacked...)
(8) Kaylin: (or that they'd wait for the rest of us to get within ambush range)
(3) GM: [1d20+2] -> [15,2] = (17)
(1) Kibin: (Okay, so it MIGHT have been good to ask you to stay there.)
(3) GM: Kibin, Elorin (surprised), Eldon (surprised), Kaylin (Surprised), Dwarves
(3) GM: Kibin?
(1) Kibin: (You know, there really needs to be ways other than attacking to help defend...)
(3) GM: You can make an attack roll to Aid Another someone's AC, I suppose......
(7) Elorin: (full defense)
** (1) Kibin readies to aid one of his allies, saying to the dwarves, "That was an accident, I didn't mean to fire..." **
(1) Kibin: (You only get a standard action in the surprise round, I thought.)
(3) GM: Yep, and Elorin doesn't go this round anyway.
(1) Kibin: (Plus I get more defense when attacking. Which doesn't make sense.)
(3) GM: Surprised.
(1) Kibin: (See, I have more defense when attacking with a -5 penalty, than doing nothing but defending that turn.)
(3) GM: So the dwarves let loose with a volley of arrows. Twenty of them headed towards the Winged Elf, who they recognized as not having been in the armor that shot them....
(1) Kibin: (And I aid another on him...)
(8) Kaylin: (20!?)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [6,13] = (19)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [12,13] = (25)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [1,13] = (14)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [14,13] = (27)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [4,13] = (17)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [13,13] = (26)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [16,13] = (29)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [11,13] = (24)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [10,13] = (23)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [18,13] = (31)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [16,13] = (29)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [10,13] = (23)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [10,13] = (23)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [16,13] = (29)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [11,13] = (24)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [6,13] = (19)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [14,13] = (27)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [1,13] = (14)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [8,13] = (21)
(3) GM: [1d20+13] -> [14,13] = (27)
** (1) Kibin thinks, "Okay, next time, ask allies to stay back before triggering an ambush." **
(3) GM: Let's see.... what's your flat-footed AC?
(7) Elorin: [10+5+9+1] -> 25, I think
(7) Elorin: (oh wait, 28)
(7) Elorin: (forgot the ring of protection)
(1) Kibin: (Add 2 to that from aid another.)
(1) Kibin: (As my readied action should trigger, and I would aid another on you.)
(3) GM: So four hits [1d8+3] -> [2,3] = (5), [1d8+3] -> [6,3] = (9), [1d8+3] -> [7,3] = (10), [1d8+3] -> [5,3] = (8)
(1) Kibin: (Wait, four? I count three.)
(7) Elorin: ([Bad dice format] - [5+9+10+8)]
(7) Elorin: ([5+9+10+8] -> 32)
(7) Elorin: (Heroes' Feast [1d8+10] -> [2,10] = (12))
(1) Kibin: (Again, I only count three hits.)
(1) Kibin: (Nevermind.)
(1) Kibin: (Didn't se that 31 hiding in there.)
(3) GM: And it's Kibin's turn again.
(1) Kibin: (Are some of them in 5 foot step distance?)
(3) GM: No.
(1) Kibin: (Meh.)
(3) GM: The nearest is about 20 feet away; the farthest, about fifty.
** (1) Kibin runs forward to where the dwarves are at, then, and attempts to disarm one of them... **
(1) Kibin: (A charge.)
(1) Kibin: (*thinks he can do a charge/disarm...*)
(1) Kibin: (Wait, regular movement, they're using ranged weapons...)
(3) GM: And they don't threaten at the moment....
(1) Kibin: (*calculates to-hit...*)
(3) GM: So opposed attack rolls; let's see.... you're small, they're medium, so you're at -4; bows are 2-handed, so they're at plus 4. You're using what kind of weapon?
(1) Kibin: (Uh... my hands?)
(3) GM: Unarmed strike, then, another -4 for a light weapon.
(1) Kibin: (They also take a -4 for it not being a melee weapon.)
(3) GM: So dwarf rolls at his normal attack roll with the thing: [1d20+13] -> [2,13] = (15)
(1) Kibin: (?)
(1) Kibin: (Oh, no touch attack.)
(1) Kibin: [1d20+10] -> [13,10] = (23)
(3) GM: And you have his bow.
(3) GM: Or does that not include your -8?
(1) Kibin: (That included the -8.)
(1) Kibin: (And at another -4 bonus, because I keep forgetting you add BAB, not 10...)
(3) GM: Oddly, he doesn't seem particularly concerned. Might have something to do with the mace at his belt.....
(1) Kibin: (So it would be 27, not 23.)
(3) GM: Elorin?
(7) Elorin: (are any of them obviously hurt?)
(3) GM: Not this time round, no. There are some holes in armor, though.
(3) GM: Definately fall.
(7) Elorin: (As far as I know Mass Mending doesn't even exist, so I can't really fix that)
(7) Elorin: (doesn't Eldon have the highest diplomacy bonus in the group?)
(1) Kibin: (Yeah.)
(7) Elorin: (it would be nice to have him take the lead on rushed diplomacy here)
(1) Kibin: (I also have diplomacy, but don't use it much.)
(1) Kibin: (Only a +15 bonus, though.)
(3) GM: So.... trying for a readied Aid another, or what?
(7) Elorin: (yeah, aid another for when someone better at diplomacy tries it)
(7) Elorin: Diplomacy Skill Check: [1d20+4] -> [7,4] = (11)
(3) GM: And eldon's Check: [1d20+20-10+2] -> [19,20,-10,2] = (31)
(1) Kibin: (Please let that be an actual check? :)
(3) GM: Eldon: Calm down, calm down! There's been a terrible misunderstanding!
(1) Kibin: (Comeon, hostile to indifferent is pretty nice...)
(3) GM: Kaylin?
** (8) Kaylin Delays **
(1) Kibin: (So many skills, so little skill points...)
(3) GM: The dwarves put their bows away, except for the one Kibin disarmed.
(7) Elorin: (I've got one character with the opposite problem)
** (1) Kibin gives the dwarf back their bow. **
(7) Elorin: (when an ECL 74 character concentrates on intelligence...)
(7) Elorin: (and has a class with 4 skill points per level)
(1) Kibin: (Dude, you should really consider using the hulking hurler in that ECL 74 game.)
(1) Kibin: (There's nothing like a few million points of damage on average. :D)
(1) Kibin: (Wait, scratch that, it was billions, keep forgetting.)
(7) Elorin: (on a ranged weapon)
(1) Kibin: (Yup. On a ranged weapon. An area effect weapon, to be exact.)\
(7) Elorin: (at levels where Infinite Improved Deflection is easy to get)
(7) Elorin: (and everyone has evasion and high saves)
(1) Kibin: (Dude. An epic level hulking hurler could literally have TRILLIONS of points of damage, with a 200+ DC to save against it.)
(3) GM: And it would get deflected, with no roll, every time to someone who invested in about five feats or so.
(7) Elorin: (I think my character's save bonus when fully buffed could beat that)
(1) Kibin: (Probally even more. I was estimating.)
(7) Elorin: (and that's without doubling or tripling up on abilities and spells that give charisma to saves)
(1) Kibin: (Meh. Just go with an army of kobolds with legendary commander. :P)
(3) GM: The dwarves eye Eldon: A misunderstanding, you say? You're very convincing.
(7) Elorin: (anyway, back to the game at hand)
(1) Kibin: Yes, that's what I've been trying to TELL YOU.
(1) Kibin: The controls of that mech is very difficult to control, accidentally pressed the wrong button or something...
(3) Dwarf: Ah, so when you shot me, you were trying to... what ... comb your hair?
(7) Elorin: We are very sorry about the injury Kibin caused you, but it was entirely accidental. If any of you had stuck around, you might have seen me aiming at him wondering what had gone wrong, and later a pair of mechs coming out to see who had managed to hijack one and deal with it.
(1) Kibin: No, give you a thumbs up to show you that I'm not going to shoot you.
** (1) Kibin says, "Which was kind of ironic, if you think about it." **
(3) Dwarf: Ah. Well. That does explain the other little pellets we found every here and there. At least nobody got killed.
(1) Kibin: And at least you didn't kill any of us.
(7) Elorin: Though I can't say these arrows are very comfortable :P
** (7) Elorin pulls them out and heals himself **
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Cure Serious Wounds ( level 3, "Cures 3d8 damage +1/level (max +15)" )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 3 Spell ( level 3, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(7) Elorin: [3d8+15] -> [2,7,6,15] = (30)
(3) Dwarf: Dwarf: Yeah, well, misunderstandings on both sides; you banged one of us up pretty bad, we.... scratched.... that winged guy. Not that that stuck....
(7) Elorin: (hehe, just two more levels and I'd have taken no damage at all :P)
(1) Kibin: (Just a few hundred years for me...)
(1) Kibin: (Epic dodge is SWEET.)
(1) Kibin: (Anyway...)
(1) Kibin: Are they still mining?
(7) Elorin: We would have sought you out to apologize earlier, but we were a bit busy with some non-hijacked machines for a bit and then just cleared out because more kept coming.
(3) Dwarf: For nine weeks?
(1) Kibin: I think we died somewhere along the way.
(1) Kibin: Which would make my "times I've died" count to three...
(7) Elorin: Well, no, they started coming in groups large enough to be worrisome in the first several minutes, and we went on a trip trying to convince their leaders that continuing their current activities was a bad idea.
(7) Elorin: That didn't turn out so well, and we seem to have lost quite a bit of time at some point.
(3) Dwarf: So let me get this straight.... you're telling me you raided the place, got killed, and miraculously returned from the dead, on your own?
(1) Kibin: No, this place we found revived us.
(8) Kaylin: It's more plausible than it sounds.
(7) Elorin: Through the portal you told us about is a strange complex with portals to thousands of planes
(3) Dwarf: So it's the mystic place of not dying?
(7) Elorin: It appears that anyone who travels through it returns, alive, to their portal of entry if they die after leaving through another portal
(7) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [17,21] = (38)
(1) Kibin: Death still isn't pleasant, however...
(3) Dwarf: The mystic portal of not really dying, then.
(7) Elorin: Seems very similar to an Astral Projection spell in that respect.
(7) Elorin: Very powerful magic
(7) Elorin: Takes quite a bit of time to bring someone back, though, apparently
(3) Dwarf: Odd.... those metal beasts were back in the order of minutes, not months.....
(7) Elorin: And it's the reason any machines you managed to destroy in the invasion just came back undamaged.
(1) Kibin: And it may just be possible that they have safeguards that prevent that...
(7) Elorin: We really don't know all that much about how this place works, they may have figured something out that modifies the time taken
(7) Elorin: Or it might be naturally variable
(1) Kibin: Meh, why does magic have to be so confusing.
(7) Elorin: Anyway, they seem to have blocked up their own portal after forcing us out of their home plane, and we're wondering what's been happening since we left.
(7) Elorin: (I'm curious, have you actually written up the full details on the Epic Spell (I'm assuming that's what it is) that created that place, including how the spellcraft DC was determined?)
(3) Dwarf: Well, there were some odd noises for a while.... mining is still going on down there, though.
(3) GM: Nope. Might if I ever decide I need to. But really, what's the point?
(1) Kibin: Have you ever tried collapsing the mine tunnels on them?
(7) Elorin: (so someone can steal it for another campaign? :P)
(3) GM: Planning on sealing something away, are we?
(7) Elorin: (not particularly, but it would be interesting to see it anyway)
(3) Dwarf: Yeah, just now. We were hoping to catch you in it.... but that didn't work out, fortunately.
(1) Kibin: Not too hard to avoid the falling rocks, and fly out of there. Assuming I'll be falling for a while..
(7) Elorin: (The CR 74 Cosmic Entity could probably find a way to break it with her own epic spellcasting if we tried sealing off her layer of the Abyss)
(1) Kibin: We could go see how the war is going on the other planes.
(7) Elorin: Whoever's mining doesn't seem to be guarding the portal any more, whatever else is happening down there.
(1) Kibin: Weren't we going to talk to that one person?
(7) Elorin: Yes, and I suppose we should be going about that. Anything we can do for you before we leave?
(1) Kibin: (Brb, going to fix a sandwich to eat.)
(1) Kibin: (GAH SO QUIET NOW)
(1) Kibin: (Back.)
(3) Dwarf: Oh, not really; we've gotten used to hunting in these parts, and there's no real home left to retake at this point, so I suppose we're going to pack up, nmaybe start a mine elsewhere.
(1) Kibin: So can we go now?
(3) Dwarf: Your call. We're taking off tomorrow.
** (1) Kibin waits for Kaylin and her magic kung fu powers. **
(8) Kaylin: All right, everyone ready?
(3) Dwarf: Eldon: Sure. Where to?
(1) Kibin: I'm ready.
(8) Kaylin: (Uh, who's the "one guy" we're talking to?)
(7) Elorin: (a certain Planetar)
(7) Elorin: (unless you want to visit the Old Man)
(8) Kaylin: (Ah. Memory fuzz.)
(1) Kibin: (Remember? To ask how the war is going?)
(1) Kibin: (Ooo, let's visit old man too.)
(8) Kaylin: (He might have more contacts for us...)
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d100] -> [27] = (27)
(8) Kaylin: Why don't we go visit the Teacher? He may be able to instruct us further...
(1) Kibin: Ooo, that seems good too.
(7) Elorin: And it's a bit easier than crossplanar travel.
(7) Elorin: Might as well
(8) Kaylin: Can't really hurt. All right then...
(8) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Greater Teleport ( level 7, "Teleports without error." )
(8) Kaylin: (off to the caves)
(3) GM: Targetting where?
(1) Kibin: (And I'm with her too.)
(8) Kaylin: (outside of the cave entrance)
(3) GM: And you arrive safely. The place is quite cold and snowy.
** (1) Kibin goes ahead and dispel the endure elements. **
(3) GM: The chill is a little worse than last time.
(1) Kibin: (Oh, wait, nondispellable. Nevermind, then.)
(3) GM: And it's actively snowing lightly.
** (1) Kibin holds out his hand, and lets a few snowflakes fall onto it. **
** (8) Kaylin goes inside and calls out "Anyone present?" **
** (1) Kibin follows Kaylin. **
whispering to Kibin, They don't melt.
(3) GM: Listen checks?
(1) Kibin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [20,21] = (41)
(1) Kibin (whispering): Huh? O.o
(7) Elorin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [9,10] = (19)
(8) Kaylin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+4] -> [19,4] = (23)
whispering to Kibin, You hear Kaylin's voice echo back and forth for quite some time... but no response.
whispering to Elorin, Kaylin, You hear Kaylin's voice echo back ... but no response.
(1) Kibin (whispering): Doesn't body heat usually melt snowflakes?
** (1) Kibin hmmms. "Noone here..." **
whispering to Kibin, You are a [Bad dice format] - [Cold] dragon at the moment.....
(1) Kibin (whispering): Hmmmm.
(1) Kibin (whispering): Well, that solves the mystery of what my body tempuature is like, then....
(7) Elorin: Could be resting in a Mage's Mansion like he offered us a time or two.
(1) Kibin: True.
** (1) Kibin looks around for clues as to where he's at, making sure not to touch anything. **
(3) GM: Seems a fairly normal cave. Search check?
(1) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+19] -> [15,19] = (34)
whispering to Kibin, You find some small holes in the stone walls every here and there, as well as some footprints that look like they might have come from those metal beasts.
** (1) Kibin says, after looking around a bit, "Seems like those metal beasts were here..." **
(8) Kaylin: That's not a good sign
(1) Kibin (whispering): I don't suppose I could follow the footprints?
whispering to Kibin, Got Track?
(1) Kibin (whispering): Nope.
whispering to Kibin, Sorry.
(1) Kibin: Where they went to, I have no clue.
(7) Elorin: Yeah, especially with him being a wizard and them being immune to magic
(8) Kaylin: Although I'd think he'd be able to escape fairly easily.
(1) Kibin: Elorin, can you tell where he's at?
** (1) Kibin hmmms, and looks around for any traces of blood. **
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Discern Location ( level 8, "Reveals exact location of creature or object." )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 8 Spell ( level 8, "Spell slot tracking device" )
whispering to Elorin, Spell simply fails.
(7) Elorin (whispering): being dead wouldn't cause that, right?
(1) Kibin: (The waiting...)
whispering to Kibin, You don't find any.
** (1) Kibin says, "Theres no blood, so that's good." **
whispering to Elorin, Depends on type of death, diety of plane of destination, et cetera.
(7) Elorin: Hmm, spell failed.
(1) Kibin: Hmmmm.
(1) Kibin: Try a sending to him?
(7) Elorin: He might be alive and protected with Mind Blank or something, but I can't tell for certain
** (1) Kibin looks over at Kaylin. **
(8) Kaylin: Hmm...
** (7) Elorin thinks better of suggesting just ignoring this to Kaylin **
(8) Kaylin: (hehe...)
(1) Kibin: (Shhhh, she might get mad and design a spell to annihilate these beasts.)
(7) Elorin: (I was about to suggest just going on to find the Planetar, but decided that might be a bad idea :P)
(8) Kaylin: Sending seems good... if that doesn't work I guess we'll have to assume he can take care of himself...
(8) Kaylin: I don't suppose there's a spellbook or scroll here?
whispering to Kibin, The place seemed carefully cleaned out.
(1) Kibin: (If your enemy wants someone or something, then you need that someone or something.)
(7) Elorin: Thinking he might have left something behind in his hurry to leave?
(1) Kibin: No, it was carefully cleaned out...
(8) Kaylin: Hmmph./
(1) Kibin: Something that would have been hard to do in a hurry, unless you could just stop time...
(8) Kaylin: Certainly possible for him.
(1) Kibin: So, try a sending?
(8) Kaylin: Message composition first...
(1) Kibin: Hi, this is your student, we have encountered these metal beasts and wish to meet you to talk about them.
(1) Kibin: Or replace student with student and friends.
(8) Kaylin: The spell shall inform him of the sender's identity sufficiently.
(1) Kibin: Meh. Okay then...
(7) Elorin: (brb)
(1) Kibin: Hi, we have encountered those metal beasts that has been in your home, and wish to meet you to talk to you about them.
(1) Kibin: You think too much about those messages.
(8) Kaylin: "Have encountered metal invaders controlled by gnomes. Meet at caves where you used to live?"
** (1) Kibin thinks for a while. "Mine would work just fine." **
(8) Kaylin: It is impossible to think too much! Only through dedicated analysis shall problems be solved.
(1) Kibin: And it's in proper grammar, too!
(1) Kibin: Besides, he can just contact us with where to meet him.
(8) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Sending ( level 5, "Sends short message anywhere, instantly." )
(8) Kaylin: (to the Old Man: "We've fought the gnomes controlling metal monsters that have been in your home. Meet there again? Kibin says hi.")
(7) Elorin: (that works)
whispering to Kaylin, The response is a set of technical shorthand describing how to build a focus for a plane you've never even heard of before.
(8) Kaylin (whispering): Focus for a plane?
whispering to Kaylin, For Plane Shift.
(1) Kibin: (Why do wizards always have to show off.)
(8) Kaylin: Hmmm... seems he wants us to meet him on a plane he must have constructed.
(1) Kibin: (Hmmmm, why can't you use sending to contact someone from beyond the plane...)
** (1) Kibin has something click in his brain... **
(1) Kibin: This is all his fault, isn't it.
(8) Kaylin: Uhm.
(1) Kibin: Oh wait, nevermind.
(8) Kaylin: I'd be glad to hear your explanation for the belief.
(1) Kibin: I think my brain isn't functioning properly today...
(7) Elorin: No, the creator of that complex is being tortured in the Abyss.
(1) Kibin: Okay then, off to that plane then...
(8) Kaylin: We're going to have to create a focus for Plane Shift to reach the plane.
(1) Kibin: Okay... And that focus is?
** (1) Kibin hmmms. "Why don't you just use gate? **
(8) Kaylin (whispering): Did he say enough to Gate there?
(7) Elorin: (hmm created planes are typically rather small unless they've been worked on for a very long time, so how does the 5d100 miles off target of Plane Shift work when the target plane is 200 feet wide?)
whispering to Kaylin, A particular bit of forked metal, with an odd alloy and an unusual material for the focus. No, you can't gate there - it described the focus to the gate, not enought of the location.
(1) Kibin: (I'd assume reroll until it's below 200 feet.)
(7) Elorin: (minimum is 5 miles)
(8) Kaylin: Typical to his nature, he only described the focus.
(1) Kibin: (Oh yeah.)
(1) Kibin: Okay then... the focus is?
whispering to Kaylin, Easy enough to build at most cities.
(8) Kaylin: A small forked metal rod.
(8) Kaylin: Let's head to a city and get materials.
(1) Kibin: (Or Elorin could just use a level 9 spell to create it...)
(7) Elorin: How big and of what material?
** (8) Kaylin tells Elorin all she knows **
(8) Kaylin: (And OOC: that isn't much :P)
(7) Elorin: (well, kinda hard to make it without knowing those two details)
(1) Kibin: (A small forked metal rod?)
(7) Elorin: ("The size and metal type dictates to which plane of existence or alternate dimension the spell sends the affected creatures")
(1) Kibin: (Oh. O.o)
(8) Kaylin: (Yeah. Well. the GM hasn't said any specifics)
whispering to Kaylin, Elorin, Alloy: three parts gold, 4 silver, 2 platinum, 1 copper; about one ounce of material, all told, About an inch long,
(8) Kaylin: We
whispering to Elorin, Kaylin, materials valued at about 10 gp.
(8) Kaylin: We'll need a rod about an inch long, total weight one ounce.
(8) Kaylin: It has to be composed of an alloy with the ratio 3:4:2:1, gold to silver to platinum to copper, respectively.
(1) Kibin: I wonder if you could use a fork as a focus for plane shift. Hmmmm.
(8) Kaylin: I'd say about 10 GP to make.
(7) Elorin: (you mean an ordinary table fork?)
(7) Elorin: (wonder where that would send you... :P)
(1) Kibin: (Yup. It's a small forked metal rod, after all.)
** (1) Kibin found the F12 macro key **
(3) GM: Yeah, but then I'd have to break out my "random plane" table.....
(1) Kibin: (Can't you make a "Plane of Eternal Dessert" or something?)
(3) GM: (Oh, I suppose I could make a plane of just desserts......)
(7) Elorin: (just roll to see what happens and tell us the result?)
(7) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [15,21] = (36)
(7) Elorin: (That high enough to know it?)
(8) Kaylin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+33] -> [19,33] = (52)
(3) GM: Depends on the fork. They aren't all exactly the same. Impurities in refining, variations in length.....
(7) Elorin: (ok, you just rolled well enough to identify an item with caster level 2 or below with just the skill check O_O)
(8) Kaylin: Of course, forks all vary...
(8) Kaylin: (*whistle* Wow. That spellcraft check is getting high...)
(1) Kibin: Heh. A crafty wizard might use his dining ware as the focus to a created plane...
(8) Kaylin: That's some pretty expensive dining ware then.
(1) Kibin: Why?
(7) Elorin: So, is there a nearby town we could visit to make this?
(8) Kaylin: As I said, it's largely gold and platinum
(8) Kaylin: Pretty much anywhere
(8) Kaylin: So. Shall we head off to a city now?
(1) Kibin: Why not?
(8) Kaylin: All right. Everyone together now.
** (1) Kibin scoots close to Kaylin. **
(1) Kibin: (We should all join hands, and use Kumbaya as the verbal component.)
(8) Kaylin: (Do that and someone will duct-tape you :P)
(1) Kibin: (Hehe.)
(8) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Teleport ( level 5, "Instantly transports you anywhere." )
(3) GM: [1d100] -> [32] = (32)
(7) Elorin: ("Kumbaya, my lord-" *pop* :P)
(8) Kaylin: (off to the city... Where the ghosty pillow thing happened)
(7) Elorin: (that would be funny to watch)
(3) GM: Ah, right.... you arrive safely at the cliffside fishing village.
(8) Kaylin: (Or even better, "Kumbaya my lord" *pop* *everyone is gone but the singer*)
(7) Elorin: (ah yes, back to The Beginning, at least for me and Kaylin)
** (1) Kibin wondered what ever happened to that black dragon. **
(7) Elorin: (their sheer hatred for the song drove them away? :P)
(7) Elorin: (not that I really hate it, but I don't really like it much either)
(8) Kaylin: (wait, isn't the cliffside fishing village a bit small to find a jeweler?)
** (1) Kibin looks around to see what this village is like now. **
(1) Kibin: (It has basically everything. :P)
(8) Kaylin: (Ah. Right....)
(1) Kibin: (It's like our home city that we return to! :)
(7) Elorin: (it had a mage-blacksmith and we've identified plenty of jewelry and artwork here before)
(1) Kibin: (And I have no clue why it's like that, compared to the other cities we've been to. I think it's just made a lasting impression on us.)
(7) Elorin: (and the stores seem to have infinite money to buy stuff with, just like in most CRPG's)
(3) GM: And there's maybe seven different faces in sight. Quite a few people, though.
(1) Kibin: Uh, Kaylin, did you ever do something about where two people were joined together?
(7) Elorin: (It's kind of funny in NWN how you can get a high enough Appraise skill to make a profit by buying something and selling it right back, and you can do this a limitless number of times for unlimited money :P)
(1) Kibin: (Heh. I'm getting the appraise skill, then.)
(8) Kaylin: Two people... joined together?
(1) Kibin: Yeah... remember?
(7) Elorin: (only works in that game, though. They implemented it as improving the price merchants give you rather than making your assessment of value more accurate)
(1) Kibin: Sometimes more.
(8) Kaylin: Hmmm... oh, right.
(1) Kibin: (That sucks. :P)
(1) Kibin: (Anyway...)
(1) Kibin: So... crafting that item?
(8) Kaylin: Certainly.
(3) GM: Appropriet Craft check?
(3) GM: Alchemy, Jewelry, silversmithing......
(8) Kaylin: (we're not getting someone to craft it for us?)
** (1) Kibin goes over to the blacksmith in town... **
(1) Kibin: (She can craft the item for us...)
(3) GM: And the sign for the custom moulding is still up, although in the back, rather than prominently displayed right next to the "blacksmith" sign.
(3) GM: You hear some pounding in the back, with the metallic clang of hammer on anvil.
(3) GM: The place has a dirt floor, kept carefully clear of straw.
** (1) Kibin suggests to Kaylin, "Maybe the blacksmith can craft the focus?" **
(8) Kaylin: Hello?
(3) GM: She comes out from the back room.
(3) GM: Blacksmith: Ah, you're back.
(8) Kaylin: Nice to see you again
(3) Blacksmith: So, did you track down that hideous thing?
(1) Kibin: Yeah, he's dead now.
(1) Kibin: Or rather, permanently dead.
(3) Blacksmith: Good to hear. So what brings you to this corner of the world?
(1) Kibin: Just was finding a way to permanently polymorph someone, with all of the abilities of the new form given.
(8) Kaylin: We need you to craft a focus for Plane Shift for us.
(3) Blacksmith: Ah, I see. Got the specs?
(8) Kaylin: Yes... one ounce of material total, one inch length.
(8) Kaylin: Needs to be composed from an alloy three parts gold, four parts silver, two partts platinum, one part copper.
(7) Elorin: 3 parts gold, 4 silver, 2 platinum, 1 copper
** (1) Kibin sees if he can make the water in his breath condense while he waits... **
whispering to Kibin, Unfortunatly, your breath is coulder than the surrounding air.
(3) Blacksmith: Ah, that's a fairly simple task.... materials will run at about 10 golds........ meh, you guys are friends. I'll do it for the material costs.
** (1) Kibin hmmms. **
(8) Kaylin: Sure? I don't mind paying.
(3) Blacksmith: Good to hear. Come back in a day or two; I should have this ready for you by then. Out of Fabricates for today.
(8) Kaylin: All right. Thanks.
** (1) Kibin walks out, then **
** Blacksmith gets to work. **
(1) Kibin: Okay... so we have a couple of days to ourselves then...
(7) Elorin: I suppose I might as well see where the Planetar is (does no one but the PC's have names? :P)
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Discern Location ( level 8, "Reveals exact location of creature or object." )
(7) Elorin: %s Tried to cast %s but has used all of them for today,Please rest so I can cast more. % ( charNameL, name )
(7) Elorin: %s Tried to cast %s but has used all of them for today,Please rest so I can cast more. % ( charNameL, name )
(7) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 9 Spell ( level 9, "Spell slot tracking device" )
whispering to Elorin, No such Person.
(7) Elorin (whispering): Huh?
whispering to Elorin, When a non-native outsider dies, there's nothing left.
** (1) Kibin waits as Elorin sees where the Planetar is. **
(7) Elorin (whispering): "It takes a different magical effect, such as limited wish, wish, miracle, or true resurrection to restore it to life." That seems to imply that at least something remains.
whispering to Elorin, Nothing Discern Location can work with, though. Locate Object, maybe......
(1) Kibin: (Hello?)
(7) Elorin: Damn, she's dead.
(1) Kibin: Oookay...
(1) Kibin: So wait here?
(1) Kibin: Seeing as how I can't think of anything else to do...
** (8) Kaylin goes to the magic shop **
** (1) Kibin follows, seeing as how he has nothing else to do. **
(3) Blacksmith: And sees the blacksmith working very carefully away with assorted coins, ignots, an open flame, and a crucible.
** (1) Kibin tries to mentally calculate how many days there are in 1,000 years... **
(3) Blacksmith: Careful; these metals don't like to mix quite properly.....
** (1) Kibin is just following Kaylin. **
** (1) Kibin hmmms, 365,000 gold if you earn a gold piece every day for a thousand years... **
** (8) Kaylin buys a scroll of Waves of Exhaustion and Wail of the Banshee for [2275 + 3825] -> 6100 GP **
(1) Kibin: (Wail of the banshee affects allies...)
(3) GM: And the blacksmith is fine with taking enough time of the project for a sale, which goes quickly.
(8) Kaylin: Do you have a crafting portal?
(1) Kibin: (And waves of exhaustion...)
(3) Blacksmith: Nah, I'm retired. Didn't want too much guild control in my shop, and that one came with too many strings.
(7) Elorin: I wonder, how much does a focus to Plane Shift to that plane cost? :P
** (1) Kibin thinks of if there was 10 gold a day... **
(8) Kaylin: (Both of which I can mess with using Mastery of Shaping)
(7) Elorin: (Oh yeah, what ability did you pick for 17th level?)
(8) Kaylin: (I wound up doing Spell Power)
(3) Blacksmith: Oh, the materials run ten golds, so the finished product runs thirty.
(8) Kaylin: Well. I guess while you craft that focus I'll scribe a scroll...
(8) Kaylin: (was there a Magic Shop in town that'd have a crafting portal?)
(7) Elorin: So, if it only costs 30 gp, why does anyone who can cast Plane Shift every bother paying the fee for the portal?
** (1) Kibin hmmms. "Because they don't know about the focus?" **
(7) Elorin: I suppose there is the problem of how to get back with pinpoint accuracy, but Teleport is even easier to cast than Plane Shift for wizards...
(3) Blacksmith: Oh, you're reffering to the Crafting Portal, not the one you commisioned? That one's a tad trickier to make. And dangerous if you don't go to the prepared points.
(3) Blacksmith: Plane shift? Not very accurate.
(7) Elorin: Ah
(3) Blacksmith: And to preserve the guild monopoly, of course they arranged for non-keyed travel to be diverted even further. Gate doesn't get you there anymore.
(8) Kaylin: Nice of them.
(1) Kibin: Good way to get money, though.
(3) Blacksmith: Ever wonder why I don't much like the Guild?
** (1) Kibin continues thinking of things while he waits. **
(8) Kaylin: Not particularly, no. Feel like talking?
** (1) Kibin asks, "Don't you get some money out of the deal too?" **
(3) Blacksmith: What? You mean hosting the crafting portal? Some. Get to use it myself, not that it's particularly useful unless there's a time crunch. A small yearly stipend. Most those fees go stright to the guildmaster's pockets.
** (1) Kibin goes look at magic items, then. **
(3) Blacksmith: Blacksmith: After anything in particular? I've got the standard stuff, of course...
(3) Blacksmith: Perhaps something to cut down on the number of people who breach your disguise?
(1) Kibin: What do you mean?
(3) Blacksmith: Oh, nothing. True Seeing can be a nice spell, if a tad expensive. There are counters, even for those without much spellcasting of their own, but they are a little iffy.
(3) Blacksmith: And it's always nice to be overlooked when someone's looking around for magic as a way to locate what's hiding.
(1) Kibin: Which doesn't happen very often...
(3) Blacksmith: Ah, yes, it's not something most people think of.
(1) Kibin: And wouldn't all the magic items I use on a regular basis give me away too?
(3) Blacksmith: There's an item that fixes that, to a degree.
(1) Kibin: Which is?
(3) Blacksmith: Just the Amulet of Proof against Detection and Location. The standard costs 35,000 gold crowns, but doesn't always stop things. We do have stronger versions, though, for a higher pricetag, of course.
(1) Kibin: Sorry, not enough gold to buy it.
(3) Blacksmith: Ah, well, perhaps later. Meanwhile, I suppose I ought to get back to work. I'm sure the inkeeper has a room for you.
** (1) Kibin goes off towards the inn, then, to get a room. **
(3) Blacksmith: The inn is nice enough, with a few places by the fire, some raised beds, and even private rooms for those who wish to pay premium prices.
(3) Blacksmith: A small girl greets you at the door.
(3) Small Girl: Ah, welcome to my inn.
(3) Small Girl: Sorry about my appearence, but that furniture maker threw away most my substance; he just wanted a pillow, not a matress.
** Small Girl sighs **
(8) Kaylin: (*snrk*)
(1) Kibin: Uh, okay... Could I have a room for the night?
(3) Small Girl: Sure. Two gold crowns a night for a private room.
(1) Kibin: (Two gold crowns is a 'premium price'?)
(3) GM: Compared to 2 silvers for a spot on a dirt floor by the fire?
(7) Elorin: (for non-noble non-adventurers, yes it is)
** (1) Kibin takes out two gold crowns for the room, then. **
(3) Small Girl: Ah, thank you. This way.
(3) Small Girl: The small girl leads you to a stout oak door, with a doorframe in some kind of reddish wood.
** (1) Kibin follows, guessing that the other people can find their way into the inn eventually. **
(3) GM: The room inside is reasonably well furnished, with a bed, a table, a chamber pot, and a washstand. There's even an un-lit oil lamp, and some flint and steel to light it.
(3) Small Girl: I hope you enjoy your stay.
** Small Girl leaves the room. **
** (1) Kibin stays there for the night, then., **
(3) GM: Anyone else doing anything before the next day?
(8) Kaylin: (nope)
(7) Elorin: (no)
(3) GM: Next day, then....... fortunately, nobody really bothered the mobile carriage and wagon during the long time away.
(1) Kibin: (I update my inventory of how much gold I have? :)
(3) GM: The next morning....
(1) Kibin: (Other than that, nothing.)
(3) Small Girl: Good morning! Did you sleep well?
** (1) Kibin nods at the girl. **
(3) Small Girl: Please come again.
** (1) Kibin goes meet up with the others, then. **
(3) Blacksmith: So, who's doing what?
(3) GM: After all y'all meet up.
(1) Kibin: (*pokes the other people*)
(3) GM: The blacksmith even hand-delivers the focus to Kaylin.
(8) Kaylin: Ah, thank you so much.
** (1) Kibin says, "So can we travel to that plane now?" **
(8) Kaylin: What do I owe you?
(3) Blacksmith: Oh, just the ten for materials; it's been a slow week, I'm moslty just keeping in practice anyway. Besides, you steered a lot of business my way, after that furnitucre incident.
(8) Kaylin: All right.
** (8) Kaylin pays up **
(3) Blacksmith: Take the money, bows, and heads back to the shop.
** Blacksmith takes the money, bows, and heads back to the shop. **
(8) Kaylin: Ready, everyone?
(1) Kibin: Yup.
** (1) Kibin clusters around Kaylin again. **
(1) Kibin: (*pokes Elorin*)
(8) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Plane Shift ( level 7, "Up to eight subjects travel to another plane." )
(7) Elorin: I'm ready
(3) Blacksmith: You find yourselves in a well lit area, full of mist. You can't see anything past about twenty feet or so, but it's hard to tell exactly how far you can see, as there aren't any refference points.
whispering to Kibin, Your blindsense, however, shows a strange band of wall about fifty feet from you, circling you.
** (1) Kibin walks about 50 feet ahead. **
(1) Kibin (whispering): Up to the wall.
whispering to Kibin, The strange wall changes shape, but stays fifty feet from you. After a short distance, though, you reach the party.
(3) Blacksmith: Kibin walks up to everyone from behind.
(3) Blacksmith: The opposite direction he came from.
(3) GM: The opposite direction that he left, sorry.
(3) GM: Oh, and Kibin - reflex save.
(1) Kibin: Reflex save: [1d20+26] -> [7,26] = (33)
whispering to Kibin, along your walk, you narrowly evade stepping on some kind of trigger.
(1) Kibin: Hello?
(3) GM: Other than the mist, the place is white and featureless. Even the ground under your feet is a boring white.
** (1) Kibin walks forward again, then... **
(1) Kibin (whispering): And purposely triggering the trigger.
(8) Kaylin: well, isn't this a nice cosy little plane.
(3) GM: A short distance from where he started, you hear a brief chime, something like bells.
(3) GM: Kibin - Will save?
(1) Kibin: Will save: [1d20+16] -> [12,16] = (28)
(3) GM: A moment later, you're joined by the old man from the now-deceased Archmage's Tower.
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Ah, I see you've come. Good, good. Sorry for the precautions, but one can't be too careful nowadays.
(1) Kibin: Next time could you make the trigger a little harder to avoid?
(1) Kibin: (*pokes other people*)
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Hmm? Well, I'm not expecting your stripe in here every day, you know. Besides, I thought it was obvious enough that it was the doorbell.
(1) Kibin: As far as I know, it could trigger a fireball...
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Well you obviously didn't look at it that closely, did you?
(7) Elorin: We've been ... out of action for a while. What's been happening in the past few monts?
(7) Elorin: *months
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Oh, there was a raid on my cavern. Knew it was coming, cleaned the place out, set up a few minor distractions. There hasn't been much activity on the Prime, well, out of the ordinary, ortherwise. Been hearing some bad news from the upper planes, though, and some good news from the lower. Any particular reason?
(1) Kibin: Apparently there's a magical construct that allows travel between planes.
(1) Kibin: Those metal beasts are using it to travel between planes. If you die on a plane other than your own, you just pop back up on your home portal a while later...
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Ah, that thing. Older than I am. Dag nab it! I thought we had that all sealed up.....
(1) Kibin: They found a way to break through the seal.
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Of course. Nothings perfect. Maybe flood it with stone next time.... adamantium plates.... but those are pricy..... hmm.....
(1) Kibin: You buried the gate?
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: The access on the prime, anyway; most planes weren't bothered, just dropped heavy iron plates over the holes. Except a few; critters that eat iron got stone, instead, which was oddly harder to arrange.
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: The center though? That rated a Wall of Force, and a little something to keep it up.
(1) Kibin: Wow...
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: I'm guessing someone dug it out?
(1) Kibin: I think they found a way to turn that wall of force on and off.
(7) Elorin: Ok, so they'd already broken through a Wall of Force before they even started attacking anywhere else. That doesn't sound good.
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: They broke it? That's...... unlikely. Still, they always were tricky bastards........ don't know why their parents never got married..... but I digress. It's open?
(1) Kibin: Correction, it WAS open.
(1) Kibin: I believe they closed it again, after we kind of found their home plane and went into it...
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Ah. I see. By the way, why don't you have that dead chap with you?
(1) Kibin: He's still on the center plane...
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Ah. Wait - how did you find out about the navigational plane's properties?
(8) Kaylin: We got killed.
(1) Kibin: That makes three times I've died...
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Ah, yes, always fun. Um..... does ..... what's his name .... Jason know about this? I don't recall ever meeting a fully balanced ghost......
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Think he knows you're okay?
(1) Kibin: I don't think so...
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Hmm. Not his reason for staying, still..... I wonder if the Leviathan is on the loose again.
(1) Kibin: Leviathan?
(7) Elorin: The Leviathan?
(7) Elorin: What's that?
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Oh, sorry, I ramble; things get muddled after a few too many centuries. An early label for Jason, while he was working on the Demon. Not all the lands they fought across were unsettled.
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Hard to say which was more destructive, at times....... didn't see any of it myself, of course.... I was in charge of evacuating the apprentices. Still....
(1) Kibin: Wonder how much chaos there is on the center plane...
(1) Kibin: Maybe you could scry on him?
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: If he's slipped again, I don't really want to know about it. He'll come around eventually. Not much to do about it from this end, one way or another.
(1) Kibin: What do you mean slipped?
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: A ghost's grip on reality is tenuous at best. Your spectral friend has got to be one of the most stable I've ever seen. Still, he doesn't respond well to the deaths of people he consideres in his charge.
(7) Elorin: (do we have an enraged ghost wreacking havoc all across the entire plane those gnomes call home?)
(1) Kibin: Ah....
(7) Elorin: (with his auto-res and only specialized military able to do anything about him...)
(1) Kibin: So we just leave him alone?
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: You do have a point........
(1) Kibin: After all, the gnomes don't care too much about attacking US...
** Kaylin's Teacher pulls out a surprisingly large mirror from a small pocket, sets it out, and casts a spell.... **
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Will save: [1d20+18] -> [8,18] = (26)
(1) Kibin: Howd you do that?
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d20+25] -> [16,25] = (41)
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Do what?
(1) Kibin: Take that large mirror from the small pocket.
** Kaylin's Teacher grins **
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: It's a trick I picked up.
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Anyway, we should be getting an image.
** (1) Kibin looks at the mirror. **
** (7) Elorin looks at the mirror **
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: On the mirror, you see a picture of an odd metal contraption, full of gnomes, swerve and hit a glass cliff.
(3) Kaylin's Teacher: Many of those inside perish.
(3) GM: A frayed apparition walks out of the wreck, and walks into traffic.
(7) Elorin: Now if we could only be certain that was militarily important, I'd be tempted to say just leave him to it.
(3) GM: Soaks into another odd metal contraption, with a smaller set of gnomes, and repeats the process.
(3) GM: A blast of white light strikes the frayed apparition, and the view fades out.
(1) Kibin: Oookay...
(3) GM:
Dinner - need to go.
(7) Elorin: Sooo, he's just killing random people until the military can show up and kill him, then revives some days later and repeats?
(1) Kibin: (*hangs in limbo. Weeeeeee, limbo!*)
(1) Kibin: (I'm getting appraise next level...)
(1) Kibin: (Along with something else. Hmmmm.)
(1) Kibin: (What else to get other than appraise.)
(1) Kibin: (With my 10 skill points.)
(1) Kibin: (Ideas?)
(7) Elorin: (keep raising skills you already have ranks in?)
(7) Elorin: (BTW, I just got the new Player's Handbook II yesterday)
(1) Kibin: (That's boring.)
(1) Kibin: (GIVE ME THE PDF)
(7) Elorin: (I'd have to scan it)
(7) Elorin: (hardcopy only)
(1) Kibin: : )
(7) Elorin: (there's one feat in it that makes me want to try a Sorcerer that has no damage spells at all but Magic Missile and just piles on the metamagic at higher levels :P)
(7) Elorin: (Arcane Thesis, essentially equivalent to the epic feat Improved Metamagic except it only applies to a single spell that you pick when you take the feat, and it gives +2 caster level for that spell only)
(7) Elorin: (can be taken at level 6)
(1) Kibin: (Why?)
(7) Elorin: (Maximized Empowered Twinned Repeat Magic Missile for a 9th level spell slot)
(1) Kibin: (Okay, gimme a clue as to what this does.)
(7) Elorin: (Applying one feat at a time:)
(7) Elorin: (Magic Missile 5d4+5 damage)
(7) Elorin: (Maximized for 25 damage)
(7) Elorin: (Empowered Maximized for 25 + (5d4+5)/2)
(7) Elorin: (Twinned Empowered Maximized for 25 +(5d4+5)/2 twice)
(7) Elorin: (Repeat makes it hit the same guy again for just as much the next round)
(1) Kibin: (Hmmmm, and it always hits...)
(7) Elorin: [5*2.5+5] -> 17.5
(7) Elorin: [17.5/2] -> 8.75
(7) Elorin: [8.75+25] -> 33.75
(7) Elorin: [33.75*2] -> 67.5 average damage with no save, repeated next round
(7) Elorin: (wait, I got that calculation wrong)
(7) Elorin: (I think)
(7) Elorin: (nvm, I think it's right)
(1) Kibin: (So how's this any better than a heightened finger of death?)
(1) Kibin: (Or a heightened disintergrate?)
(7) Elorin: (If Spell Compendium is allowed, take Chain Missile as the base instead for twice as many missiles at max (though the max is at 20th instead of 9th level) and having each missile bounce once)
(7) Elorin: (level 3 spell)
(7) Elorin: (Pile on the metamagic except Repeat Spell)
(7) Elorin: (Sorry, Heighten is specifically excluded)
(1) Kibin: (Huh?)
(7) Elorin: (Arcane Thesis specifically does not affect Heighten Spell)
(1) Kibin: (Oookay.)
(7) Elorin: (Sorry, didn't read all you said at first)
(7) Elorin: (this is good for a single target damage spell)
(7) Elorin: (and for having no save)
(1) Kibin: (And if they use a brooch of shielding?)
(1) Kibin: (Or another shield against magic missile?)
(7) Elorin: (save-or-die of any sort is of course better if they fail)
(7) Elorin: (who really expects to need to worry about Magic Missile at high levels? :P)
(1) Kibin: (The DM of that group.)
(1) Kibin: (Sure, he'll let you get away with it for an encounter or two...)
(1) Kibin: (But then your enemies will start having shields against it.)
(1) Kibin: (Just throw a force dragon at the group... :)
(7) Elorin: (that's when he switches to his other level 1 damage spell, Lesser Acid Orb or one of the other energy variants of it :P)
(1) Kibin: (But you don't have that spell, remember?)
(7) Elorin: (if the DM starts giving everyone the party meets protection against MM, then I'd pick it up very quickly)
(1) Kibin: (Not every party. If you're in a group out of four, just one out of every four encounters.)
(1) Kibin: (As usually about one out of every four monsters can't be sneak attacked.)
(1) Kibin: (One out of four monsters have spell resistance...)
(7) Elorin: (there's a feat here that can get you DR 2/-)
(7) Elorin: (Armor Specialization: requires proficiency with armor, BAB +12, gives DR 2/- when wearing that armor)
(1) Kibin: (Basically anything that could hamper a character, only occurs every so often. 1/4th is the golden ratio for D&D.)
(7) Elorin: (hmm, only works for medium or heavy armor, though)
(1) Kibin: (Heh, couple that with some magical armor, and you got someone that is immune to nonmagical arrows.)
(1) Kibin: (Meh, could we just stop here?)
(1) Kibin: (Have to go in 15 minutes anyway...)
(7) Elorin: (Spring Attack feat tree got extended to allow up to three attacks while Spring Attacking with enough BAB and the right feats)
(1) Kibin: (O.O)
(1) Kibin: (Spring attack with two weapon fighting...)
(1) Kibin: (or... with the monk and disarming...)
(1) Kibin: (Maybe tripping...)
(7) Elorin: (I don't think it allows bonus attacks from TWF)
(1) Kibin: Monks would kick BUTT>
(1) Kibin: (With a bunch of speed bonuses...)
(7) Elorin: (anyone who's always wanted to make a DBZ fighter will rejoice about the Ki Blast feat :P)
(1) Kibin: (I found a z-fighter class on the OOTS forms.)
(1) Kibin: (Forums*)
(1) Kibin: (With a signature move, flying, kung fu powers...)
(1) Kibin: (I also found a level 9 spell, hadoken.)
(7) Elorin: (yeah, but those aren't official WotC)
(1) Kibin: (Meh.)
(1) Kibin: (I toss iridum balls at you. :P)
(7) Elorin: (much easier to convince most DMs to accept things from official WotC material, I think)
(1) Kibin: (Hehe... PUN PUN)
(7) Elorin: (provided that it's not obviously insanely broken, of course)
(1) Kibin: (Aw.)
(1) Kibin: (I still think you're a powergamer...)
(7) Elorin: (a bit, yes)
(7) Elorin: (who else but a powergamer would have joined an ECL 74 playtest? :P)
(7) Elorin: (and then found a combo that grants immunity to damage and use it, after the DM approved it?)
(1) Kibin: (Oooo...)
(3) GM: Back.
(1) Kibin: (So how does he plan to get past the immunity to damage?)
(1) Kibin: (Imprisioning spell? :)
(7) Elorin: (doesn't prevent any other method of killing, and there are spells that negate regeneration)
(1) Kibin: (20 save or dies at the same time?)
(1) Kibin: (Hmmm... out of curiosity...)
(1) Kibin: [20d20] -> [4,6,3,9,14,12,4,14,7,5,17,12,4,9,13,12,20,3,16,13] = (197)
(1) Kibin: [20d20] -> [9,1,9,6,14,9,19,18,18,12,16,17,6,6,3,14,3,18,5,2] = (205)
(1) Kibin: (Only a single one. Hmmm.)
(1) Kibin: [20d20] -> [1,11,2,7,7,18,15,14,18,12,8,13,7,5,2,15,1,20,16,8] = (200)
(7) Elorin: (of course, whatever he does he'll still have to deal with our x50 or so contingent True Resurrection epic spell :P)
(1) Kibin: (Okay, more ones.)
(1) Kibin: (Bag of devouring.)
(7) Elorin: (actually it's x24, I think, but the main epic spellcaster has 28 epic spell slots)
(1) Kibin: (Again. Bag of devouring.,)
(7) Elorin: (you really expect one of those to do anything to an ECL 74 character?)
(3) GM: There's a fair number of them; Shades can do Trap the Soul (no material cost!), Trap the Soul can be used on it's own (but gets pricy without the Epic feat), Binding is particularly good, as it lets you pump your caster level via assistents, to the point where the target doesn't get a save at all......
(1) Kibin: (The book of vile evil has some pretty nice stuff.)
(1) Kibin: (Or darkness.)
(1) Kibin: (For the truely evil powergamer, it has some nice stuff.)
(7) Elorin: (need to Improved Heighten it to 11th level or higher to make it have any chance at all)
(7) Elorin: (and needs to beat 121 SR and saves around +200)
(1) Kibin: (Can we stop here?)
(1) Kibin: (Hehe. 10d6 damage of fire, acid, or sonic, no save. On a 10 mile radius per level.)
(7) Elorin: (Ring of Universal Energy Immunity)
(1) Kibin: (One of my favorite. The caster holds out his hand, and the still beating heart of his enemy appears in it.)
(7) Elorin: (what's the name of that one?)
(1) Kibin: (Heartclutch.)
(3) GM: I suppose; makes enough sense. Let's see... if you have three caster level 75 or so characters, Heighten a Binding to 12th, and then add things up, you can get a caster level up to 125 - hmm, not quite enough. Four caster level 75 critters can manage it at 150, which means anything with 74 HD or less doesn't get a save.
(1) Kibin: (A level 5 cleric spell.)
(1) Kibin: (If it succeeds on it's save, it still takes 3d6+caster level damage.)
(7) Elorin: (Shield of Great Reflection: the spell bounces and targets the caster)
(1) Kibin: (Level 8 spell, 10d6 of damage no save. :D)
(1) Kibin: (Instant death if you save.
(7) Elorin: (name?)
(1) Kibin: (I mean fail to save.)
(7) Elorin: (death by Thorns?)
(1) Kibin: (Gutwrench. It also gives the caster temporary HP.)
(1) Kibin: (Ooo, that's an evil one. Conjures thorns inside someone, causing them to die.)
(3) GM: So lead with a Disjunction or something. You can have up to six helpers, each helper at best adding 1/3rd their caster level, so if you can swing seven casters total at caster level 75, you can get a caster level of 225; 112 HD or less Bound with no save.
(7) Elorin: (also targeted)
(7) Elorin: (and therefore Reflected)
(7) Elorin: (Epic Ward against Disjunction, among other things)
(1) Kibin: (Anyway... Can we stop here?)
(3) GM: Sure.
(1) Kibin: (Are you sure?)
(7) Elorin: (believe me, we've put a lot of thought into how to make the party as indestructible as possible)
(1) Kibin: Ooo, shiney button...
(1) Kibin (exit): 19:38
(3) GM: Fun thing about the Epic Ward seed..... the spell requires it to be a particular spell level or lower; if you have one character focusing on how height to heighten, it gets passed.
(7) Elorin: (there are two ways to Ward against spells: All spells of X level or lower, or X spell regardless of anything else)
(7) Elorin: (we're doing 10th level or lower and several specific spells)
(7) Elorin: (no matter what you do with a Disjunction, it won't work on us)
(3) GM: Check the description of the Ward seed - the spellcraft DC for against a particular spell is based on the spell's level. If it's Heightened, it's not that level of spell anymore, so that particular Ward spell doesn't apply. Sort of like Spell Immunity's level cap.
(3) GM: Once you've got the Disjunction up past whatever particular DC was selected on the specific spell immunity, it's no longer stopped.
(7) Elorin: (doesn't matter, it's still the same spell. The Ward negates that spell regardless of other factors, and only the base spell level is used to determine the spell DC)
(3) GM: Ah, so if my undead wants to be immune to Heal, he can use the DC for the Adept's version, rather than the Clerical version, then?
(7) Elorin: (Adepts get Heal? Lemme check that...)
(7) Elorin: (I guess so)
(7) Elorin: (not one of the spell lists people usually check, but it is there)
(3) GM: And at a completely different spell level. Some Bard, Paladin, and Ranger spells get similar reductions on spell level depending on who is casting them. It's a game mechanics thing on a slightly grey area; it's one of those things: Ask the DM. Not my campaign, but the text of Heighten Spell includes the line "All effects dependent on spell level (such as saving throw DCs and ability to penetrate a lesser globe of invulnerability) are calculated according to the heightened level. "
(7) Elorin: I would read that as "all effects determined at time of casting"
(7) Elorin: Or something similar, since that exact wording would sort of contradict the globe of invulnerability thing
(7) Elorin: I think
(7) Elorin: But anyway, the specific spell Ward has been brought up specifically as a way to prevent Heighten Spell bypassing it, and the DM hasn't said anything to indicate it wouldn't work, so...
(3) GM: Did he say anything to indicate it would work?
(7) Elorin: In fact, I think he might have specifically confirmed it would work, but that's a lot of pages of discussion to search through to find the quote
(3) GM: Ah, so if Heighten doesn't bypass an Epic Ward, I can make a Ward that stops all spells of level 11 and below, and be completely immune to all magic?
(3) GM: But that is something to specifically bring up.
(3) GM: After all, spells stop at 9th level, and Epic spells are treated as 10th level spells, and Heighten doesn't work against the Epic Ward......
(3) GM: But if you really want to turtle up, make a Contingent Animate Dead (Ghost).
(7) Elorin: Heighten does work for the X level or lower Ward
(3) GM: Why the distinction?
(7) Elorin: Ward vs spells of level X:
(7) Elorin: Spell is cast, is it level X or below?
(7) Elorin: Determined on the spot, Heighten applies
(3) GM: "For each specific spell so nullified, increase the Spellcraft DC by +2 per spell level above 1st."
(7) Elorin: Ward vs specific spell:
(7) Elorin: Spell is cast, is it X spell?
(7) Elorin: Heighten does not change what spell it is, so no effect.
(3) GM: But it's a spell of a different spell level. What DC do you use for crafting the epic spell to stop it?
(7) Elorin: The normal level for the spell. Once the epic ward is crafted, the DC is set.
(3) GM: So then how do you handle spells that are different levels depending on who's casting them (as in the Heal Adept/Cleric case)?
(3) GM: There's multiple normal levels for a spell.
(3) GM: Mind you, it's less rules-lawyery to simply set up a trivial (at that level) Quickened Destruction for just that kind of thing, but still......
(3) GM: Oh, Druids get Heal too - at 7th. So if my undead wants to be immune to Heal, does he need to treat it as a 5th (adept version), 6th (cleric version) or 7th (druid version) level spell?
(7) Elorin: I'd probably let him pick the lowest level version, and I think Belian (this playtest's DM) would as well.
(7) Elorin: (*Belial, not Belian)
(7) Elorin: As for the epic Destroy, I think that has to beat our anti-dispelling ward with an opposed caster level check, and the Ward is designed with an insanely high bonus on such things
(3) GM: Me, I'd have him pick the highest level version he wants to defend against - so if he goes with Adept, it will stop Heal provided it's 5th level or lower. Clerical Heal, then it will stop the Adept's and Cleric's version, but not the Druid's. 7th, and it will stop all three - until someone heightens it. Once it's Heightened, the DC to stop it goes up. Granted, these are interpertations of fuzzy areas either way - but something to consider.
(3) GM: Okay, so we just lead out with a Quickened Dispel pumped in the same manner.
(3) GM: Of course, if you really want something broken, look up Permanent Summons. Grab something that can cast spells as a level X whatever - Planetars can get you 9th level spells - pull up a bunch of them, then use Ritual Magic to push the DC down for other spells.
(3) GM: Each Planetar you summon and use in such a fasion reduces Spellcraft DC's by 17.
(3) GM: At CR 16, a Planetar has a base summon DC of 42; makeing that Permanent on the duration pushes it to only 210. Once you have
(7) Elorin: Belial's houseruled that rituals can't have more additional casters than your base (before any but inherent bonuses) primary ability score bonus
(3) GM: What's the highest you can get that? Racial bonuses? Level-up bonuses? Feat bonuses? To get 210 to 0, you only need [210/17] -> 12 of them.
(7) Elorin: Without such a rule, just get Epic Leadership, buff your charisma for a month, get more leaders, buff it some more, start buffing your other ability scores - all with DC 0 epic spells so they're free...
(3) GM: Well, round error; [210.0/17.0] -> 12.3529411765 After you have 13 of them, you can make a new, free spell that gets you a new one - permanently.
(7) Elorin: Arg, get more followers, not leaders :P
(3) GM: And cast it three times a day.
(7) Elorin: Right, so we can have an infinite horde of Planetars
(7) Elorin: They're CR 16
(7) Elorin: We're ECL 74
(7) Elorin: They are less than cannon fodder
(3) GM: Always nice to have a cheap way to get a True Ressurection that can be left way, way, out of harms way.
(7) Elorin: True.
(7) Elorin: Much nicer to have 50 contingent ones that don't wait 10 minutes, though
(7) Elorin: x48 only takes two of our primary epic caster's 28 epic spell slots
(3) GM: Yep. And an Epic Ward over a large area to stop 10th level spells suppresses it.
(3) GM: Unless that dispel somehow gets rid of spells already in effect.....
(3) GM: Or your targetted dispel knows to get rid of that Wide Ward, that was cast before you came on the scene......
(3) GM: Wait - am I typing too fast?
(3) GM: I've clocked in at 74 wpm recently....
(3) GM: nah, shouldn't be a problem.
(7) Elorin: Hmm, what happens when two Wards both blocking 10th level spells cover the same area?
(7) Elorin: And neither has an ad hoc to make it considered a higher spell level
(3) GM: Me? I'd treat them like overlapping Antimagic Fields, personally. But that's just personal prefference.
(3) GM: Wait - did I just give you a nightmare about what might happen to those crafty defenses you've put up, or fodder for tearing down your target's similar defenses? Hmm.....
(7) Elorin: Hmm, I'm not quite sure the RAW justifies it, but Belial has stated directly that spells cast from within a Ward are not blocked by the Ward
(3) GM: Ah, if you really want to have fun, though, make a Demiplane, have a Summoned critter (from the Planetar example, above) block it against all planar travel after you Astral Project out..... get really hard to kill.
(7) Elorin: Now if we really wanted to get nasty, we'd use the Mythal seed from Lost Empires of Faerun
(3) GM: What's that do?
(7) Elorin: It would be absolutely trivial with that to make any and all spellcasting impossible for everyone except ourselves within a pretty large area.
(7) Elorin: It's rather extremely customizable
(7) Elorin: Basically a permanent ward with lots of powerful options
(7) Elorin: Let's see if I can find the PM's I sent about it
(7) Elorin: Ok, how do I create a text node so I can send to chat?
(7) Elorin: It's got a lot of newlines so I can't just paste directly
(3) GM: Right-click a text node, Design it, tell it to be multi-line.
(7) Elorin: How do I create a text node in the first place?
(7) Elorin: right-clicking on Game Tree isn't showing an option that's obviously it
(3) GM: OpenRPG 1.6.1, Templates, Nodes, Create New Text Box
(3) GM: here. Just put your text in there, right-click, and Send to Chat.
(7) Elorin: Example: Seed: Mythal
Evocation
Spellcraft DC: 25
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Range: 30 ft.
Area: 100-ft.-radius emanation
Duration: Permanent
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
You create a persistent magical field centered on the point you choose. You (or other casters cooperating with you) can then cast a number of other spells into this field, thereby either granting or denying access to them to creatures within the field. Effects you can include in your mythal fall into four categories: prevalent spells (always active), arointed spells (always denied to those within the field), vanguard spells (available on demand to those within the field), and prevalent powers (persistent effects that do not map to any particular spell). Your mythal can include up to one effect per caster level, but each component spell you cast into it affects the Spellcraft DC of your raise mythal spell.
Once raised, a mythal cannot be dispelled, diskoined, or suppressed by any nonepic spell. A character attempting to dispel your mythal with an epic spell (such as superb dispelling) must succeed on a caster level check (DC 21 + your caster level) to succeed. An antimagic field suppresses the portion of the mythal that it overlaps but otherwise does it no harm.
Mythal Components:
Prevalent Spells: Prevalent spells are always in effect on creatures within the mythal. You must make all the decisions necessary for a prevalent spell upon creating your mythal, just as if you were creating a use-activated magic item. A spell with a duration of instantaneous cannot be used as a prevalent spell.
The cost of a prevalent spell varies with its normal duration. Since it is always in effect, a spell with a short duration costs more to make prevalent than one with a long duration.
Renewable Spells: A prevalent spell that would normally end after its capacity has been reached (such as stoneskin, protection from energy, or spell turning) can be designated as a renewable prevalent spell. Such a spell confers its benefits on any given user only once per 24 hours. When its effect is exhausted through whatever means are normal for the specific spell, it does not renew itself upon that subject until 24 hours after the first time its benefits are used (the first time that damage was negated by a stoneskin or protection from energy, for example). If the spell's benefits have not yet been exhausted by that time, the effect continues until it is exhausted and is then immediately renewed.
Arointed Spells: Arointed spells automatically fail when cast inside the mythal or targeted at creatures or objects within it. You can aroint a single spell or all spells that share a common factor, such as a descriptor, energy type, subschool, or school.
Vanguard Spells: A vanguard spell is activated with a command word as a standard action, just as if it were a magic item in the user's possession. Any creature within the mythal can activate a vanguard spell as often as desired.
You can reduce the cost of a vanguard spell component by making it available a limited number of times to each creature in any 24-hour period.
Prevalent Powers: Components not easily described by spells fall into three categories: minor (comparable to spells of 1st to 3rd level or minor magic items), medium (comparable to spells of 4th to 6th level or medium magic items), or major (comparable to spells of 7th to 9th level or major magic items).
A prevalent power is a good way to represent a spell that could not normally be made prevalent. For example, if you want your mythal to automatically use dismissal on every evil outsider that enters, you can describe the effect as a medium prevalent power. A meteor swarm produced whenever any evil dragon enters would count as a major prevalent power. Prevalent powers that continue to function round after round should be considerably more expensive than those powers that function only once upon entry.
Keyed Powers: Any component of a mythal can be keyed to specific creatures. For example, a prevalent fly spell can be made specific to elves, humanoids, or creatures carrying certain tokens. In the same manner, spells with certain descriptors (such as the death descriptor) can be arounted for particular categories (such as good-aligned dwarves), and vanguard spells can be made available only to creatures that undergo a process of attunement to the mythal.
You can key a mythal component by designating specific observable characteristics that bar or permit access to various effects, or by designating certain individuals present at the casting to be affected, or by designating a process by which a creature may at some future date gain access to mythal powers. For example, a creature might have to undergo a special rite, perform specific actions within the mythal, or the like. Keyed components are twice as expensive as unkeyed components.
Spell Trigger: You can reduce the component cost of any spell by making it accessible only to creatures capable of producing the effect with a spell trigger item.
Limited Area: If the effect is available only within a certain section of the mythal (25% or less of the total area), the cost is halved.
Mythal Component Costs:
Prevalent spell base cost: spell level * caster level * 100
Duration in rounds: base cost * 4
Duration in minutes: base cost * 2
Duration in 10 minutes: base cost * 1.5
Renewable: base cost * 1/2
Arointed Spell: spell level * minimum caster level * 50
Arointed energy type: 10,000
Arointed descriptor or subschool: 15,000
Arointed school: 20,000
Vanguard spell, at will: spell level * caster level * 100
Vanguard spell, 3/day: spell level * caster level * 50
Vanguard spell, 1/day: spell level * caster level * 25
Prevalent power, minor: 5,000
Prevalent power, medium: 20,000
Prevalent power, major: 50,000
Modifiers to Component Cost

Total base spellcraft DC is 25 + (total component cost divided by 1,000).
Special Mitigating Factors:
Caster dies (no resurrection possible): -50 DC
Capstone (physical component that brings the mythal down with it when destroyed): -20 DC
Corruptible (weakens over time, only a concern after a century so I won't bother with the details): x3/4 DC
Anchored (bad idea for us, I won't bother with the details): x3/4 DC
(3) GM: Ah. So all it needs to be defeated utterly is an Initiate of Mysteria and a simple Antimagic Field.
(7) Elorin: lol
(7) Elorin: Ok, so combine it with a Ward vs Antimagic Field
(7) Elorin: Then add all 8 Arointed schools, plus any Universal spells such as Wish that you're worried about...
(3) GM: And then you can't do anything at all in their either. Gee. hope you aren't up against a Troll Half Red Dragon/Half Green Dragon or something........
(7) Elorin: And make them all keyed, of course
(3) GM: Ah, so you can cast, and nobody else can. Nifty. Yeah, definately an overpowered seed, even for Epic.
(3) GM: Beats out Ward pretty much any day of the week.
(7) Elorin: Yeah. Which is why, when Belial said if we can use it so can the creature we're playtesting against, we decided not to.
(3) GM: So, what's your current plan of attack?
(7) Elorin: It would also be trivially easy to grant something like free Wish at will to everyone keyed to it...
(7) Elorin: Current plan of attack, use an epic spell to transport the target enemy to us, have everyone but the caster have readied actions to attack/cast spells/whatever, then beat on her until she dies (the specific manner of beating is hard to plan in advance)
(7) Elorin: My readied action will be using a feat, Pierce Magical Protections, from Complete Arcane to automatically dispel any spell-based AC buffs she's got
(7) Elorin: With me being a melee fighter build, further rounds will be spent using my 28 attack full attack routine
(7) Elorin: I have to hit with an attack to use Pierce Magical Protections, but that attack ignores the same spells it would dispel, so...
(3) GM: Basing it on Summon?
(7) Elorin: Transport, actually
(7) Elorin: combined with Reveal
(7) Elorin: Big bonuses to SR penetration and save DC, of course
(3) GM: Okay, that could work, but how does it get through Mind Blank?
(3) GM: Don't forget the basic, non-epic defenses.
(7) Elorin: Huh, I think we sort of just assumed epic spells ignore the anti-divination effect of Mind Blank. I'll have to ask about that.
(3) GM: Suppose I'm building a turtle. Let's see... I want my own Demiplane, a Summoned (and thus utterly loyal) Planetar, Seal off most the plane from Planar Travel with Forbiddance (nice Planetar!) Astral Project out, and leave the Planetar with orders to Forbiddance the place after I've left get the Planetar and myself that Third Eye that does Mind Blank from the XPH/Psionics section of the SRD, and have him watch for my body dying - at which point, he True Ressurects me, I get another Astral Projection ready, dispel a small section fo the Forbiddance (used multiple Forbbiddences - one specifically small just for this purpose) after hitting it with a Mage's Private Sanctum, and Astral Project away again, with the Planetar Forbidding it up after I've left.
(3) GM: Other than the totally loyal Planetar, that can all be done pre-epic. Planetar can be replaced by a Cleric Cohort if needed.
(3) GM: ....and a Cleric-17 Cohort can be done pre-epic.
(3) GM: Kill the astral Projection? No problemo - respawn immediately. A few minutes, back, no harm done.
(7) Elorin: Advanced custom Inevitable with epic spellcasting comes after you...
(7) Elorin: Given enough time, a determined enemy epic spellcaster will craft a spell to overcome any defenses you can put up.
(7) Elorin: Provided your spellcraft bonus isn't too much higher than his, of course.
(3) GM: Nah, what will really happen is a trap rather than a death - Trap the Soul, Binding, et cetera. Not actually dead, but might as well be.
(3) GM: Eventually the container will break, though - hmm... ancient evil, unleashed upon the earth........
(7) Elorin: Are you going to make the next BBEG do this in the ancient past?
(3) GM: Maybe, maybe not. Probably not. A little hard to win against THAT (especially as you get to specify the non-building, non-living aspects of your new demiplane - let's see... we need diamonds, silver for holy water, rare incense, and Jacniths - no sweat)
(3) GM: Push comes to shove, arrange to have True Creation/Wish available to the one that actually leaves to gain XP to spend.
(3) GM: Also - what Epic spell will penetrate those defenses?
(3) GM: Getting tired, though....
(3) GM: Perhaps something Contingent that works on the area during the small gap where he Astral Projects..... hmm......
(7) Elorin: Let's see, separate plane, completely covered with Forbiddance. Mind Blank only protects the Planetar and BBEG, not the plane itself
(7) Elorin: Reveal seed to see the plane, some of the ad hoc factors specified in the seed to cast through it, Dispel...
(7) Elorin: Viola, Forbiddance is gone, Plane Shift/Gate/planar travel of choice in, and kill.
(3) GM: 1) Finding out where to look how?
(3) GM: 2) Permanencied Mage's Private Sanctum can be added to the entire plane, readily enough (it's got a decent area, and the plane does not need tobe large)
(3) GM: 3) Creator gets to specify most the properties of the plane - Divinations don't need to work at all in that area.
(7) Elorin: Hmm, looks like that tactic needs some entirely houseruled ad hoc factors to penetrate Mage's Private Sanctum, so let's switch tactics
(7) Elorin: Break the silver cord.
(7) Elorin: Plane Shift him to the Astral first if necessary
(3) GM: And sometime in the next 24 hours, he's True ressurected.
(3) GM: (you don't know WHEN in that 24 hours - no information gathering)
(7) Elorin: Capture, interrogate, and craft an epic spell to summon that specific Planetar?
(3) GM: Then he Astral Projects back out at some point, and you have maybe a 30 minute window to get in, to a plane you don't know about, to a small, probably trapped, location you can't specify, while he leaves.
(3) GM: That's a Conjouration effect; that specific Planetar/Cleric isn't subject to Planar travel.
(7) Elorin: Forbiddance only prevents teleportaion into or within the area, I don't think summoning him out counts.
(3) GM: Trap the Soul, lock him into a deep, dark pit somewhere. A few millenia later, he's back, but you don't have to worry about him....
(7) Elorin: Anyway, you seem to have come up with a combination that can only be permanently resolved by capturing the guy somehow as a first step
(7) Elorin: Given that accomplishment, force him to dismiss the Planetar
(7) Elorin: Then kill him
(3) GM: Pretty much.
(7) Elorin: Oh wait, have to be within range to dismiss the spell.
(7) Elorin: So, dominate your captured foe and have him command his servant via Sending to take down part of the protections.
(3) GM: Mind Blank - Dominate is a mind affecting effect.
(7) Elorin: He's captured. Such things can be removed or otherwise dealt with.
(7) Elorin: If nothing else, and epic Dispel would do it.
(3) GM: He's fake. Such attempts are liable to get rid of the Astral Projection spell - or, perhaps, he's got a Quickened Silent Stilled Dispel Magic prepared for just such emergency trips home.
(7) Elorin: If it's from an item, remove it. If it's cast, wait out the duration.
(7) Elorin: Regardless, keep him unconscious until then.
(3) GM: Yeah, so it could be done - but it would take an insane amount of doing.
(7) Elorin: This is an interesting mental exercise, but I really really hope no one ever actually forces someone to deal with it in game.
(7) Elorin: One of the biggest flaws of the D&D system, at least in epic, imo is the number of ways to get absolute immunities to various things.
(3) GM: Simplest solution: Emulate Trap the Soul via Shades. No material component to worry about, he's not dead so he doesn't ressurect, he's trapped so he can't do anything. Keep the shadow gem, and he's never coming back as long as you have it. Drop it in a pit with you eventually, and he's not coming back for a long, long time after you're gone.
(7) Elorin: There should ALWAYS be something that can overcome any given protection.
(7) Elorin: Where's Shades from?
(3) GM: Sor/Wiz 9; it's in the SRD. Bumped up version of Shadow Conjouration - Trap the Soul is Conjouration(Summoning) and thus fair game for it.
(7) Elorin: Ah.
(7) Elorin: Of course, your many generations removed descendents will be cursing you for not taking care of it permanently...
(7) Elorin: You'll probably end up regretting it yourself if you exploit Reincarnation to never die of old age, too :P
(3) GM: Ultimate recurring villian. Of course, if you drop the shadow gem off in a similar Demiplane ... of your crafting, sealed up in the same manner..... only this time, abandon it completely (someone will have to seal it up behind you - but that's what a knife and True Ressurection is for) and it's not getting out.
(3) GM: When it comes down to it, what's the difference between permanently locked up in a non-acting form in a sealed plane and death? Dead, your allies can bring you back.....
(3) GM: I'm fatigued, though, so.....
Game disconnected!
