Server Administrator-> You have connected to an OpenRPG server, version '1.6.1'.
Welcome to Jack Simth's temporary server!
I put this up just for
a short gaming session on Saturday, and stop it after.
Session is schedualed for 10 AM Pacific Standard Time.
(1) Kibin (enter): 09:38
(1) Kibin: Welcome.
(2) Jack Simth: Morning.
(1) Kibin: 19th level woooooo!
(1) Kibin: And I now have 2 points into tumble.
(1) Kibin: As well as 4 points into appraise. :)
(2) Jack Simth: So I've made skills useful in my campaign, then?
(1) Kibin: Maybe.
(1) Kibin: The tumble isn't that useful yet, however it IS a way to survive in certain situations.
(1) Kibin: And appriase is just for flavor.
(1) Kibin: I also increased a few skills, such as search, it was getting kind of low.
(1) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+19] -> [16,19] = (35)
(1) Kibin: Search is increased by four now...
(1) Kibin: Where did we stop at last time?
(2) Jack Simth: On an odd, misty, demiplane, talking to the Archmagister.
(1) Kibin: Oh yeah.
(1) Kibin: I may go around 1 to 5.
(1) Kibin: Halo 2 again hopefully.
(1) Kibin: And super smash brothers melee! Wooo!
(1) Kibin: Appraise Skill Check: [1d20+6] -> [4,6] = (10)

(1) Kibin: Three 16's in a row. O.o
(1) Kibin: Tumble Skill Check: [1d20+9] -> [9,9] = (18)
(1) Kibin: Tumble Skill Check: [1d20+9] -> [8,9] = (17)

(1) Kibin: Tumble Skill Check: [1d20+9] -> [13,9] = (22)
(1) Kibin: Okay, a lot easier to tumble away now. Wooo.
(1) Kibin: Weeee, bored.
** No match found
(1) Kibin: Where's everyouse else..
(3) Kelensiya (enter): 10:02
(1) Kibin: I have appraise now! WOoo!
(2) Jack Simth: Morning.
** (1) Kibin thinks how much better he would be as a rogue when borrowing Kaylin's circlet thingie. **
(1) Kibin: Oh, I played a game for 7 hours 20 minutes continuously without a break yesterday.
(1) Kibin: That was fun.
(2) Jack Simth: Talking about the +Int Headband of Intellect?
(1) Kibin: Yup.
(2) Jack Simth: So get one. At this level, they aren't that expensive.
(1) Kibin: Hmmmm.
(1) Kibin: 36,000 is a lot. :P
(1) Kibin: Oh, I found an uber cool epic class. :)
(1) Kibin: Guardian Paramount.
(1) Kibin: At higher levels, you can adjust probability(meaning you can force a reroll of just about anything), extend evasion to allies, extend uncanny dodge to allies, a shield other spell that converts the damage to you to nonlethal damage, and... True ressurection spell once per day! :D
(1) Kibin: With no material component or XP cost!
(1) Kibin: I really like that true ressurection spell ability.
(1) Kibin: I think it would be worth getting class levels just for the adjusting probability and true ressurection.
(2) Jack Simth: Yeah, but for the most part, it's a support role character, similar to a lot of Bard builds pre-epic. Abilities defend or heal allies, not damage opponents. I takes the right mindset to not quickly get rather bored with it.
(1) Kibin: I just need one non-epic feat, and a couple of epic feats to be eligible.
(1) Kibin: Yeah, but I especially like the alter probability thingie. :P
(1) Kibin: 1 in 400 chance for natural 1's. :D
(2) Jack Simth: Assuming you haven't used it all up by then.....
(1) Kibin: Yeah.
(1) Kibin: But that's still pretty cool.
(1) Kibin: I assume you can use it on your own rolls...
(2) Jack Simth: Also undoes critical threats, and a few other things.
(2) Jack Simth: It specifies "another creature"
(2) Jack Simth: It's a bodyguard class more than a defense-oriented class.
(1) Kibin: Meh.
(1) Kibin: Well, is there any class with that ability that would work on themselves as well?>
(4) Elorin (enter): 10:18
(1) Kibin: Oh, and did you know that the shadowdancer's defensive roll ability doesn't specify that improved evasion can't be used on it?
(2) Jack Simth: Morning.
(2) Jack Simth: Now just missing Narf.
(1) Kibin: Slept in late I betcha. :P
(1) Kibin: 19th level wooooo!
(1) Kibin: I get 9d6 of sneak attack damage instead of just 8d6!
(1) Kibin: And 10 skill points. And that's about it.
(1) Kibin: No BAB bonuses, no saving throw bonuses...
(1) Kibin: Just 10 skill points and 1d6 more damage on a sneak attack. :(
(1) Kibin: Ooo... is there a way to force an enemy to provoke an AoO?
(1) Kibin: Sneak Attack of Opportunity epic feat. Any AoO you make is considered a sneak attack. :)
(5) Lae'nial (enter): 10:21
(2) Jack Simth: Otto's Irresistable Dance. Also a couple of hit points, some more resistance to such HD and HP dependant things such as Blasphemy, negative levels, and the Power Word line.
(1) Kibin: Yay! Full party!
(2) Jack Simth: Well, that's everyone who's been showing up....
(1) Kibin: What happened to the druid?
(1) Kibin: He hasn't been showing up.
(3) Kaylin: *shrug* No idea
(1) Kibin: As yes, I also need to get the Trap Sense epic feat..
(2) Jack Simth: Anyway.....
(1) Kibin: Search check to notice a trap within 5 feet of me even if I'm not actively searching.
(3) Kaylin (exit): 10:22
Moving to room 'D and D'..

(2) Jack Simth:
(1) Kibin: (We were watching Jason, I believe...)
(2) GM: When we last left our heroes, they were on a misty demiplane that seemed to loop in on itself, talking with the Archmagister after having watched the image of Jason break up.
whispering to Jack Simth, [2d4] -> [3,2] = (5)
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, what he said.)
(2) GM: The archmagister is dressed in a white robe today, leaving the hood down. His face is quite wrinkled, but has an oddly ageless look to it.
** (1) Kibin asks, "Can we send a message to him now?" **
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Looks like the Leviathan is on the loose again. Pity.
(1) Kibin: (When is the first epic feat, anyway?)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: In my campagin, character level 21st.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Presumable, level 21)
(1) Kibin: (Ah, okay. So at level 21, my sneak attacks shall do double effective damage then. :)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Send it? Probably. Would he receive it? That's a different question.
(1) Kibin: So when can we send it so that he can recieve it?
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Not quite what I meant; lots of ghosts lose large pieces of their memories under different circumstances. It's hard to say if he'll recognize you at all.
(1) Kibin: Ah.
(1) Kibin: Then the solution to this would be?
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Oh, he's more stable than most, but he can probably be slapped back to his senses eventaully. Did it once before; really nasty to have a ghost running around battling something he finished off three months before. Changed the focus to something harmless, if useless.
(1) Kibin: So... what exactly can we do?
(1) Kibin: (Woooo, sister's friends here. HALO 2 TIME!)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Relieve whatever's stressing him. Convince him you are who you say you are. Guide his current obsession to something less immediate. Hire a trained psychologist, although I've yet to see them get any better results than priests manage. Forecfully get him away from what he's working on.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Just about anything you can think of, really.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: As a short-term fix to buy you some time, you could probably simply bind him or something.
(3) Kaylin: We still have to get over to the gnome's plane though...
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: You mentioned they put a barrier up? What all have you tried?
(3) Kaylin: Not much; we weren't inclined to stay around there for longer than necessary.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Yeah, they were sealed in with good reason. They appear to have learned a bit in their captivity.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Just not the right lessons.
(1) KibinAwayish has sent you a tree node...
(1) KibinAwayish: (Updated character sheet. :P)
(3) Kaylin: Why were they sealed in?
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Basically for what they're doing now. At that time, it was spellcasters and clerics using Projection spells. We arranged for them to be sealed up from such forms of travel, and cut out the vast majority of magical influences from the place. Ah, the archmage's guild before the fall was a sight to behold. Those were the....
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot gives Kaylin a funny look. **
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: The scrying image that had broken up when Jason was "slain" reforms, even though it's only been about five minutes.
(3) Kaylin: Eldon: Something the matter?
(2) GM: Grr... need to remember about that little name switch....
(2) GM: On the image, you see a few scrapts of wispy ghostly substance gather up into a raggedy shape of a person.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "No, not really. Just thought it was an obvious answer."
(2) GM: You then see a crashed, bent, and broken metal box-like thing with what looks to have been wheels go flying out of the picture.
(2) GM: Then you hear a crash, and a piece of one of those metal beasts rolls into view......
** Jason shouts "Face Me you Coward! Murderer! I liked them!" **
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Wait, what? How's he.......
(2) GM: [1d20+20] -> [6,20] = (26), [1d20+20] -> [16,20] = (36)
(2) GM: A bright white beam hits Jason again, and the image dissapates.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: That's not... ghosts can't .... it takes days....
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: How.... hmm.... I wonder.....
(3) Kaylin: Is it possible the effects of the portal space are working oddly on him?
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: That wouldn't do that; I was in on the construction...... I wonder......
(2) GM: Spellcraft checks?
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d20+25] -> [2,25] = (27)
(3) Kaylin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+33] -> [13,33] = (46)
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d20+25] -> [1,25] = (26)
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d20+25] -> [12,25] = (37)
(4) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [13,21] = (34)
(2) GM: The Archmagister sits down, and takes thirty minutes casting the same spell three times....
whispering to Kaylin, Elorin, Discern location; he seems to be having some slight troubles getting a proper fix on the target plane.
(2) GM: Meanwhile, Jason's image reforms and dissapates several times.....
** Kaylin's Teacher sits down, and looks a might shocked. **
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: That's..... we didn't mean to do that but.... oh my.
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot looks curious. **
(3) Kaylin: please tell... I'm all ears.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: ... but now that I think it through, it makes sense..... joy....
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Well, we designed the thing to stop Astral Projection as well as more classic methods of Planar Travel, because that's what they were using to invade everyone, and smash down the other planes.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: We didn't think at the time that Astral Projection looses the soul from that universe to reach the destination.... and that death does pretty much the same thing.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: He reforms quickly because he doesn't get back to his reward to leave it behind. He's stuck.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: ... as is every other soul that dies there....
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: ... for the last few ..... what did we DO!?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Made a rather horrible mistake."
(4) Elorin: So, millions of souls just trapped on that plane with no way to the afterlife? That sounds like a somewhat excessive punishment.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Millions doesn't cover it. They were always a .... productive people .... and it's been a long, long time.
(4) Elorin: Is that also the reason their machines pop back after just a few minutes from being destroyed after travelling to other planes while we took months?
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Nah. That'd be... well, the place was designed to stop Astral Projection, and to drain magical energies to make spellcasting just this side of impossible. As a side effect, this gives something of the protection of Astral Projection to anyone using the matrix to travel.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Certain materials would focus the effect. Collect the energies a little more quickly. The effect would build faster, so that it wouldn't take long, but....
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: I'd seal off the traveler inside the materials from the effect. Normally wouldn't matter - in order to make it work, you'd have to be totally encased, and would be drawn along for the ride.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Just don't lose your shell.....
(4) Elorin: If that's what it is, they seem to have found those materials and are using them extensively.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: They always were clever bastards.
(4) Elorin: Right, exactly what they're using for their invasions this time around
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Of course. Well, at least this time they aren't collapsing planes that resist too much.... or have they started doing that again?
(4) Elorin: Well, we've tried talking with them to convince them of the error of their ways without success. You know a lot more about this thing than we do, so how would you suggest we stop them by force?
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: ... I don't think they'd have many mage's..... it's been millenia, and beginners shouldn't be able to cast at all....
** Kaylin's Teacher looks a little lost and forlorn. **
(4) Elorin: They don't even have a word for magic.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Thank goodness for small mercies.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Force doesn't work well; at least, it didn't two millenia ago.
(4) Elorin: Any time we've mentioned it while using Tongues to talk with one of them, they just asked what that word meant as if it had no equivalent in their language.
(4) Elorin: (brb)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Who knows what the culture did after we pulled all but pulled the magic that was fueling it.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: ...and it's been a while.... they aren't the longest lived folk.... cultures do drift.... right?
(3) Kaylin: So what exactly did you do last time? Just sealed them up?
(4) Elorin: Maybe. They seem convinced everyone but themselves are mere vermin.
(4) Elorin: And it seems some documents about magic survived from around the time they were sealed, and they're taking them seriously.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Pretty much. Closed the plane off, "killed" those currently out... hmm, wonder where they ended up? Could they still be sleeping, stuck at the Wall, unable to get to their bodies, unable to leave due to the draw.....
(4) Elorin: Well, I'm fresh out of ideas for how to deal with them except taking down the seal, at least temporarily, and I have no idea how to do that.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: If you could impress them enough.... would depend on their current leader, though.... wonder if they're still doing the divine right thing variant?
(3) Kaylin: Sounds like it.
(3) Kaylin: They call their leader "Enlightened One"
(3) Kaylin: Doesn't sound like the sort that would listen to reason too well, if not accompanied by a sharp stick.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Same title. Good. As for breaking the matrix .... well, it replenishes itself pretty quickly as it's energies are drained, but it's not as unstoppable as, say, a Wall of Force. Simply bash it enough and it would come down, eventually. But to do that, well.....
(3) Kaylin: That's what muscular people are for.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: ... you'd have to be inside.
(4) Elorin: Depends on the kind of bashing required.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Stopping the wars directly would have to depend on the current stupid one's personality. Which varies from generation to generation.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: And I have no idea if it would collapse in on you or pop. I wasn't in charge of the framwork.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Food)
(4) Elorin: He was willing to talk, but only as long as he still thought the soldiers dispatched to kill us might still succeed. Once they failed, he just blew up the entire complex we were in, which was apparently a just-for-show building.
(3) Kaylin: Who was? Is it possible to talk to them?
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: He faced off against the Demon.
(3) Kaylin: 'the' demon? I have a bad feeling about where this is going...
(4) Elorin: I seem to recall Jason calling the thing he battled so long ago by that term.
(3) Kaylin: Ah
(3) Kaylin: That's true, I remember that now.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: So many died.... and those that died in that battle after a particular point couldn't be recalled, for some odd reason.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: We never did get a straight answer on that. Nobody seemed to know, and the dieties wouldn't answer. Every last one simply refused to answer directly. The most we were able to glean is that there was a deal left unfinished.
(3) Kaylin: A deal? No idea of which parties it involved?
(3) Kaylin: (fooding, brb)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: One of them. The guy charged with keeping an eye on Jason before his first demise. Quite the skilled necromancer, that. Kept well away from the Evil stuff, but definatley planed around with life energies. Pity he's one of those that couldn't be recalled.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: I've never figured out whether to blame Jason's fate on him, circumstance, or something else..... but regardless of why it was good for the rest of us that Jason stuck around long enough to deal with the Demon. Pity he's still stuck.
(3) Kaylin: Hmmm, very murky relations between your acquaintances.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: When you live as long as I have, and help run an orginization that wields a lot of power, you meet a lot of power-seekers. Some good, some not. It can occasionally be rather difficult to distinguish the two.
(2) GM: Okay, my connection appears to function....
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yep.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Nothing to say)
(3) Kaylin: (YEah, I'm having that trouble.)
(4) Elorin: This is all very interesting, but it seems a bit far afield from the problem we're really concerned with at the moment.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Which? Grounding Jason a little better, or stopping the invasions?
(4) Elorin: Stopping the invasions
(3) Kaylin: I think leaving Jason alone will stop them fairly thoroughly.
(3) Kaylin: Not that I'm suggesting we do that.
(4) Elorin: Maybe, but that seems a bit harsh on the civilians
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: War always is, directly or not.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: So, any plans?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: Int check: [1d20+8] -> [13,8] = (21)
(1) KibinAwayish: (Mmm, lots and lots and lots and lots of delayed blast fireballs...)
(4) Elorin: Three, actually, though only one seems even remotely feasible. I doubt we can gather the force necessary to beat them that way, and collapsing the matrix that is their only means of interplanar travel right now has some drawbacks as well as being difficult. The only other thing I can think of is trying to impress their "Enlightened One" as you mentioned earlier.
(4) Elorin: The problem is figuring out what would impress him.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "What are the drawbacks of collapsing that matrix?"
(4) Elorin: Having to be inside it to pull it off and having no clue what would happen to us then.
(1) KibinAwayish: (Four delayed blast fireballs per caster...)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Mostly that it has to be done from inside the matrix. I'm not sure whether it would pop and toss you onto the Astral, or collapse in on you with irresistable force. But I'm sure it'd be one of the two.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Is there not some sort of spell that could be left behind to do damage?"
(3) Kaylin: There are times when honesty isn't the best approach.
(1) KibinAwayish: (Toss the delayed blast fireballs through the portal. :P)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah!)
(1) KibinAwayish: (Design a bag of infinite delayed blast fireballs. :)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: (set off a neclace of firey decapitation?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Design a mechanism that will put bags of holding inside portable holes.)
(1) KibinAwayish: (Find a sphere of annihilation and a tailsman of the sphere.)
(1) KibinAwayish: (Ooo... delayed blast fireballs can be used as a thrown weapon...)
(1) KibinAwayish: (27d6 fire damage...)
(1) KibinAwayish: (*grins evilly*)
(1) KibinAwayish: (94.5 points of fire damage.)
(1) KibinAwayish: (With a delayed blast fireball, and help from a rogue with 9d6 sneak attack damage.)
(1) KibinAwayish: (Imagine what that would do to a white dragon... :)
(1) KibinAwayish: (Woohoo I killed the session! O.o)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: (So you're going to cast the spell without the dragon hearing, sneak to withing 30 feet without the dragon seeing or blindsensing, then throw it at the dragon before it can react?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (What dragon?)
(1) KibinAwayish: (No. I'm going to deny him dexterity bonus somehow.)
(4) Elorin: (Silence + Superior Invisibility (Spell Compendium, 9th level spell that is much harder to neutralize than regular invis) and Silent Spell metamagic)
(1) KibinAwayish: (Or I could just use REGULAR invisibility...)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: (anyway - anyone doing anything?)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Int check: [1d20+2] -> [5,2] = (7)
(4) Elorin: (Superior Invis also prevents detection by blindsight and similar abilities as well as See Invisibility)
(4) Elorin: (just checked, it's actually 8th level)
(4) Elorin: (True Seeing still sees through it though :( )
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: (Ah. Mean spell. True Seeing all the time gets expensive quickly)
(1) KibinAwayish: (Off to play games.)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: After several cycles of Jason smashed, Jason reforms and throws something, Jason reforms, throws something.... and doesn't get smashed.
(4) Elorin: (18th level with Vow of Poverty, get permanent True Seeing :D)
(2) GM: He then nods and starts running though a ruined city. Burning, metal boxes with oily smoke come into and leave view, shrapnel from stone and metal buildings litter the path. A smoky haze slowly settles over the area. After a while, he leaves the ruins and starts following what looks like a road....
(3) Kaylin: That's got to be messing their minds up a bit.
(4) Elorin: Hmm, offer to stop the rampaging ghost if they agree to restrict their invasions to Hell and the Abyss? :P
(3) Kaylin: Sounds like a good idea to me
(3) Kaylin: (so, uhm, how do we get there?)
(2) GM: (What all have you tried?)
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: You mentioned that there was a barrier in your way?
(3) Kaylin: Yes.. it seemed to be physical.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Did you try anything to get rid of it?
(3) Kaylin: Not at the time.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: So how is a physical barrier a barrier at all to one such as yourself?
(3) Kaylin: it isn't, once I've got a few spells.
(3) Kaylin: Well... is there anything else that you feel compelled to inform us of?
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: What's to know? A thousand years ago I thought this problem solved.
(3) Kaylin: Don't want to come along with us at all? *grins*
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Nope. I'm not as young as I used to be.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Besides which, we already have a GMNPC)
(3) Kaylin: (GMNPC?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yep.)
(3) Kaylin: (Oh, GM's NPC)
(3) Kaylin: (gotcha... well, y'know, this guy could give some pretty powerful artillery fire...)
(4) Elorin: (would he even have to roll to make the check for casting spells there? :P)
(3) Kaylin: (DC 30, was it?)
(3) Kaylin: (I somehow doubt it :P)
(3) Kaylin: All right then, I guess we'll be heading back home then.
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: Take care.
(3) Kaylin: You too.
** Kaylin's Teacher grins and vanishes. **
(4) Elorin: You mentioned bad news from the upper planes and good from the lower earlier
(4) Elorin: (dammit, I was typing already before he left)
whispering to Elorin, You hear a voice whisper in your ear: Yeah; good news that the lower planes are being slowly ovverrun, bad news that the upper planes are being slowly ovverrun.
(4) Elorin: I figured as much
(2) Kaylin's Teacher: You're alone in a misty demiplane, that seems to loop back on itself. There's little, if anything, in the way of features to put your eyes on, other than each other. Quite disconcerting.
(2) GM: Oops. Silly alias switching......
(2) GM: So, who's doing what?
(3) Kaylin: we're all ready to go back home?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Yes."
** (3) Kaylin gathers everybody together **
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Plane Shift ( level 7, "Up to eight subjects travel to another plane." )
(3) Kaylin: (Back to the material, then?)
(2) GM: And you show up..... [5d100] -> [60,82,46,69,93] = (350)
(2) GM: [1d100] -> [26] = (26)
(2) GM: In a forested area.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (I got nothing)
(2) GM: [1d100] -> [53] = (53)
(2) GM: [1d3+1] -> [2,1] = (3)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (...Tarresque...Hehehe...)
(2) GM: Troll + Red half Dragon + Black Half Dragon + True Necromancer (I think) = Immune to Fire and Acid, all but Fire and acid converted to nonleathal, immune to nonlethal. There's probably easier routes.
(4) Elorin: (I think someone on the OotS boards came up with something that could only be killed by many many repeated Disintigrate spells)
(4) Elorin: (immune to pretty much everything else)
(2) GM: Disintigrate deals damage. Not of specified type, so converted to nonlethal damage. Immune to nonlethal damage. Subject to Flesh to Stone and a few other things, though.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Flesh to stone, disintegrate.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Then)
(2) GM: With enough levels to play around with, you can make something well-neigh indestructible.
(4) Elorin: (Ikea Tarrasque 2.0)
(4) Elorin: (it's a template)
(4) Elorin: (apply it to the Tarrasque...)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Seen that.)
(2) GM: You hear a voice from the woods: Who dares enter our forest?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Eldon, Kaylin, Elorin and Kibin. And you are?"
(2) GM: Voice: The guardians of this wood. Tresspassers are not permitted.
(2) GM: Voice: Leave now.
(3) Kaylin: *quietly* They're not very polite, are they...
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Fine with me, but your isolationist policy is a bad idea."
(2) GM: Voice: You remain? Then join with the dirt of the forest....
(2) GM: Roll for initiative.
(4) Elorin: No, but we didn't really want to come here specifically anyway. Just teleport out already.
(2) GM: [1d20+3] -> [18,3] = (21), [1d20+3] -> [4,3] = (7), [1d20+3] -> [17,3] = (20)
(4) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [17,6] = (23)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+6] -> [9,6] = (15)
(3) Kaylin: True...
(3) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [5,2] = (7)
(2) GM: Dex check: [1d20+7] -> [4,7] = (11)
(3) Kaylin: Stay close; I'll teleport us...
(2) GM: Kaylin - second roll?
(2) GM: [1d20+3] -> [18,3] = (21)
(3) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [15,2] = (17)
(2) GM: Elorin, Unseen 1, Unseen 3, Eldon, Kibin, Unseen 2, Kaylin
(2) GM: Elorin?
(4) Elorin: We'll be out in a moment, just give us a few seconds.
** (4) Elorin delays **
(2) GM: You hear some quick chanting....
(4) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [15,21] = (36)
whispering to Elorin, Wall of Thorns.
(3) Kaylin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+33] -> [19,33] = (52)
(2) GM: ... and a thorny wall of brush sweeps around and encompases everyone.
whispering to Kaylin, Wall of Thorns.
(2) GM: What's everyone's AC without Dex and Dodge bonuses?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (24)
(3) Kaylin: (23)
(2) GM: Eldon: 1 point of damage.
(2) GM: Kaylin: 2
(2) GM: And Kibin takes 2.
(4) Elorin: ([10+5+9+3+2+1] -> 30)
(2) GM: What's the source of all those?
(4) Elorin: (base + Magic Vestment on clothing + Monk's Belt + Ring of Protection +3 + Amulet of Natural Armor +2 + Dusty Rose Ioun Stone)
(2) GM: Fun. All apply. No damage.
(2) GM: Everyone's still kinda stuck, though.
(2) GM: And unseen 3 begins casting something......
(4) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [14,21] = (35)
whispering to Elorin, Fire Storm
(3) Kaylin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+33] -> [19,33] = (52)
whispering to Kaylin, Fire Storm
(3) Kaylin: (twice in a row I've rolled a 19)
(2) GM: Eldon?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Draw sword, try to free myself?)
(1) KibinAwayish: (I'm back...)
(4) Elorin: (would the Wall of Thorns prevent Kaylin touching everyone for the Teleport?)
(4) Elorin: (we should all still be right next to each other)
(2) GM: Which is movement; take 1 point of damage. Also.... "A wall of thorns can be breached by slow work with edged weapons. Chopping away at the wall creates a safe passage 1 foot deep for every 10 minutes of work. Normal fire cannot harm the barrier, but magical fire burns it away in 10 minutes." or "Creatures can force their way slowly through the wall by making a Strength check as a full-round action. For every 5 points by which the check exceeds 20, a creature moves 5 feet (up to a maximum distance equal to its normal land speed). Of course, moving or attempting to move through the thorns incurs damage as described above. A creature trapped in the thorns can choose to remain motionless in order to avoid taking any more damage."
(2) GM: And in 9 minutes, 9 rounds, you'll have a small space cleared out.
(2) GM: Kibin? Your turn. You took two points of damage earlier from the spell that's incoviniencing everyone.
(3) Kaylin: (is he still playing Halo 2?)
(1) KibinAwayish: (I said I'm back. :P)
(3) Kaylin: (Oh yeah...)
(1) KibinAwayish: (What exactly happened?)
(2) GM: Chatted with Archmagister, came up with something of a plan, Plane Shifted out, spoke with a voice in the woods, got caught up in a Wall of Thorns.
(1) KibinAwayish: (Ah.)
(2) GM: And it's your turn.
(4) Elorin: (Would the Wall of Thorns interfere with Kaylin having to touch everyone for Teleport?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Voice in the woods is very hasty and aggressive. Probable extreme paraniod delusions.)
** (1) KibinAwayish just stays motionless, then, to avoid getting any damage. **
(2) GM: And it's the next unseen's turn.... Elorin, make a Fort save.
(4) Elorin: Fortitude save: [1d20+19] -> [15,19] = (34)
(1) Kibin: Can we please leave now?
(2) GM: And nothing much happens to you.
(2) GM: Kaylin?
(3) Kaylin: (So can I teleport everyone out or do we have to fight?
(1) Kibin: (Oh, and it's AC without dexterity and DODGE BONUSES. Deflection still counts.)
(4) Elorin: (I've got a delayed action and I'm still waiting for an answer about whether I have to use it so Kaylin can touch us all)
(2) GM: You can teleport yourself without moving, moving hurts, you'll need to make at least one concentration check, but everyone is within reach.
(1) Kibin: (So I would have an AC of 31 for that calculation, thus taking no damage.)
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Greater Teleport ( level 7, "Teleports without error." )
(2) GM: Concentration check?
(3) Kaylin: Concentration Skill Check: [1d20+20] -> [4,20] = (24)
(3) Kaylin: (ick)
(2) GM: And as it's only like 2 points of damage, that actually passes.
(3) Kaylin: (cool)
(2) GM: So you are all.... where?
(3) Kaylin: (So, let's go to Ye Olde Shoppe)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (...Which one?)
(1) Kibin: (They really need more inventive names for it.)
(1) Kibin: (Like, "Mary's Magicka Supplies")
(3) Kaylin: (erm. Cliffside. I dunno, they've all got inns and shops :P)
(1) Kibin: (Or "Warmaster Weapon and Armor)
(2) GM: Sally's Supernatural Summonings, Mike's Mischevious Magic Market, Irving's Irresistable Incantations?
(1) Kibin: (Maybe "Super Savings and Items" shop. Which for some reason is at the exact same price as every other market in the world.)
(1) Kibin: (Yeah. : )
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ye Olde Boomstick Store?)
(4) Elorin: (Except at this shop everything is "on sale". The non-sale prices are higher than everywhere else, you see :P)
(2) GM: You find your teleport is diverted to just outside the Shoppe.....
(2) GM: There's a solid generic wooden door on a solid generic wooden building with a generic magic shop sign.
(2) GM: You're standing on a generic rode in a generic city with lots of generic people walking around.
(1) Kibin: (It would be cool if there was a 10% variation in shop prices everywhere.)
(2) GM: Everything's quite bland.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (If any of the NPC's start saying 'Listen!' I'm going to beat them senseless...:D)
(2) GM: Nothing particularly noteworth at all anywhere.
(3) Kaylin: (Normally if the GM said something like that I'd think there was an alien invasion going on or something)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (...There is?...)
(3) Kaylin: (Mind-controlling aliens
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Does brainwashing count?)
** (4) Elorin takes 20 searching for something noteworthy :P **
(4) Elorin: (just kidding)
(1) Kibin: (Roll 1d20+90 to determine the price of each item they want to buy. Or just do sections, like magic weapons are 105% more expensive there.)
(1) Kibin: (Then when you go away for a while, reroll for shifting prices.)
(3) Kaylin: (shush)
(3) Kaylin: (I don't want to have to pay 10% extra for scrolls :P)
(2) GM: Or have a "used item shop" which contains a few rolls of treasure.... that aren't fully ID'd, but cost 75% of market?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (What about 9% less?)
(3) Kaylin: (that works)
(2) GM: Anyway.... entering the generic shop?
** (1) Kibin enters the generic shop. **
(4) Elorin: (if they're not ID'd, how does the shopkeeper know how to price them?)
(2) GM: _fully_ id'd.
(4) Elorin: (how do you ID something without fully ID'ing it?)
(4) Elorin: (even Identify gets everything nowadays)
** (3) Kaylin enters the shop **
(1) Kibin: (Bardic lore._)
(3) Kaylin: Do you have a crafting portal?
(2) GM: Might be cursed, you see...... more likely, as these are the ones others sold off...... but the slighly shady shoppkeeper doesn't tell you abot stuff that might queer the sale.....
(2) GM: Generic Shoppkeeper: Why yes, we do.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (BRB, in a bit.)
(3) Kaylin: Excellent. 100 gold?
(2) GM: Generic Shoppkeeper: Standard prics.
** (3) Kaylin pays 100 gold and goes in to scribe Wail of the banshee and Waves of Exhaustion into the 'ol book **
(1) Kibin: (Also, this could also be the start of several quests. If a shop has unusually high prices, maybe someone has been raiding the supply caravans.)
(1) Kibin: (Someone with a random selection but low low prices might get those items by shady dealings.)
** (1) Kibin goes look at magic items like he usually does when at a shop. **
(2) GM: You see a generic rack of potions, a generic rack of wands, a generic rack of generic weapons, a generic rack of generic armor, and other generic displays of generic magic gerenic goods.
(2) GM: On generic shelves, in front of generic walls and windows, with generic decorations.
(2) GM: Oh, and Kibin - make a will save.
(1) Kibin: Will save: [1d20+16] -> [18,16] = (34)
(1) Kibin: (*hugs necklace*)
** (3) Kaylin buys a scroll of Protection from Arrows **
whispering to Kibin, The place is incredibly boring, but you manage to stay awake looking through all the boring stuff.
(1) Kibin (whispering): Wouldn't my immunity to sleep effects count for that?
whispering to Kibin, Not a sleep effect. Just really, really dull.
** (3) Kaylin scribes **
(2) GM: Generic Shoppkeeper: Thank you for your business.
** (1) Kibin yawns, and goes back to the group. **
(1) Kibin: Can we go now? This place is boring.
(1) Kibin: (*pokes other people*)
(1) Kibin: (*pokes other people some more*)
(1) Kibin: (Did everyone die?)
(2) GM: My connection still seems to work.....
(2) GM: Ah well, I guess I'll go fix a sandwich or something.
(1) Kibin: (O.o)
(3) Kaylin: (Sorry, had to fix my spell list)
(1) Kibin: (Could you at least tell us that?)
(3) Kaylin: (just did.)
(1) Kibin: (BEFORE you leave?)
(3) Kaylin: (maybe if you ask nice ;)
(1) Kibin: (Okay, before you do anything that would stop you from replying for more than 30 seconds, please tell us...)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Back.)
(2) GM: Back.
(1) Kibin: (*pokes Elorin*)
** (1) Kibin goes outside and find something interesting while Kaylin is in the crafting portal, then. **
(2) GM: Search check?
(1) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [8,23] = (31)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (...I wonder if we could sell mech casings for gold...)
** (3) Kaylin is done **
whispering to Kibin, You don't find so much as an oddly shaped rock.....
** (1) Kibin comes back to the shop after about 5 minutes. **
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Magic-resistant adamantium.)
(1) Kibin: (Not adamantium.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (No? Then what?)
(1) Kibin: (Simply something with the STRENGTH of adamantium. I think.)
(1) Kibin: (Maybe some type of ceramic.)
(1) Kibin: (Or a titanium composite.)
(2) GM: I've never seen adamantine on the periodic table. Perhaps it is, itself, a composite....
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (It's a fantasy universe. Does it have to have a periodic table?)
(2) GM: Yeah. Four or five elements:Earth, Water, Air, Fire, Spirit.
(1) Kibin: (I would consider adamantine a material caused by magical forces.)
(1) Kibin: (When ordinary metal is exposed to a lot of magic, then it becomes adamantine.)
(1) Kibin: (Like... magic used when creating the world.)
(1) Kibin: (Or possibly a word of creation. Like that golem.)
** (1) Kibin yawns again. **
(1) Kibin: (*pokes everyone again.*)
(3) Kaylin: (kids these days expect instant response, don't they... :P)
(2) GM: What? You want me to roll up some Generic Police to charge you with a crime against Genericness?
(1) Kibin: (Huh?)
(1) Kibin: (I WOULD like it if people actually started to respond within half a minute or so.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (I've got nothing to say. Low on cash, so...)
(2) GM: Well, making adamantine wouldn't fit too terribly well with the mine, earlier....
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Just waiting for something in Eldons' area of expertise)
(1) Kibin: (Notice I said a lot of magic. Maybe like, epic level magics.)
(2) GM: Anyway.....
(2) GM: Generic Shoppkeeper: Will there be anything else?
** (1) Kibin hasn't bought anything, and doesn't need to buy anything, so he stays quiet. **
(3) Kaylin: Nope, that's all. Thanks
(2) GM: Generic Shoppkeeper: Have a Generic day.
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot hasn't bought anything, and likely couldn't buy anything usefull, so he stays silent. **
** (1) Kibin asks the Shopkeeper, "What's this town called?" **
(2) GM: Generic Shoppkeeper: Right.
(1) Kibin: This town is called Right?
(2) GM: Generic Shoppkeeper: No, you had it right the first time.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Town?"
(2) GM: Generic Shoppkeeper: What
(1) Kibin: What is the name of the town?
(2) GM: Generic Shoppkeeper: Right.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Second base?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "So who's on first?"
(2) GM: Generic Shoppkeeper: No, they have a different shifts.
** (3) Kaylin goes and bangs her head on the wall **
** (1) Kibin nods, and quickly travels out of the shop. **
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Which shifts?"
(2) GM: Generic Shoppkeeper: Right.
** (1) Kibin says to Eldon, "Comeon." **
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot walks out of the shop. **
(2) GM: Outside, it's a generic day, with generic weather.
(2) GM: With a few generic clouds.
** (1) Kibin asks Kaylin when she comes out, "Can we go to another city? This town scares me." **
(3) Kaylin: Awwwh, does Kibin need his hand held?
(1) Kibin: No.... this town is just too... generic?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Is there a roll-over function for the dice rols?)
(1) Kibin: (What do you mean?)
(2) GM: What do you mean? A way to reset them to the same starting point each time? Not that I'm aware of.
(2) GM: Well, other than the automatic one that comes with any pseudorandom and time.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (No, I mean roll-over as in a 'count successes' mechanic.)
(1) Kibin: (Yup.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [Bad dice format] - [1d10.rollOver(5)]
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hmm...What is it?)
(1) Kibin: (Let me see...)
(1) Kibin: (Or that.)
(1) Kibin: (*pokes Kaylin*)
You have changed your die roller to the "d20" roller.
(2) GM: [1d20.attack(20,5,19)] -> [4,5] = (9) vs AC 20 Miss!
(2) GM: [1d20.attack(30,20,1)] -> [11,20] = (31) vs AC 30 Hit!
(1) Kibin: (Yeah. Back to D&D!)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Thanks.)
(3) Kaylin: Where to next? Find that portal and try to get through to the gnome's plane?
(1) Kibin: We could leave the gnomes busy with Jason while everyone else recovers.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [3d10.vs(5)] -> [7,8,1] = (2)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [30d10.vs(5)] -> [1,7,10,4,1,10,9,3,8,4,4,3,2,2,10,10,8,8,3,5,3,2,6,6,8,8,8,8,3,7] = (17)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [Bad dice format] - [5d10.open(7).vs(5).]
(1) Kibin: (Ooo... The exotic weapon proficiency(Futuristic))
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [5d10.open(7).vs(5)] -> [[10, 1],4,[10, 4],1,[7, 2]] = (3)
(4) Elorin: [5d10.open(7).vs(5)] -> [4,[10, 10, 6],[10, 6],[10, 4],6] = (4)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [5d10.open(7).vs(5)] -> [4,[8, 8, 10, 10, 5],[8, 1],[7, 6],[9, 4]] = (4)
(2) GM: So, who's doing what?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Doesn't count successes on secondary rolls.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [5d10.vs(5).open(7)] -> [6,3,[8, 4],3,[10, 5]] = (3)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [5d10.vs(5).open(7)] -> [[10, 3],6,[7, 6],[9, 7, 10, 3],6] = (5)
(3) Kaylin: (waiting for people to respond to Kibin's rather evil suggestion...)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Jason is harming civilians."
(1) Kibin: Or we could go there and try to snap him out of it...
(1) Kibin: But how are we going to do that?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [5d10.open(7)] -> [3,3,2,[9, 6],[7, 2]] = (32)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "A restoration spell?"
(1) Kibin: Uh, how would that help to get us to Jason?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "That might help Jason snap out of it."
(1) Kibin: So you want to use positive energy on undead?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Would a non-spellcaster know that it's postive energy?)
(1) Kibin: (Healing = positive energy.)
(1) Kibin: (It's not that hard to figure out.)
(1) Kibin: (It's like figuring out that something like harm uses NEGATIVE energy. And that cone of cold does COLD damage.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (And stone to flesh uses positive energy?)
(1) Kibin: (No, that uses magical transmogification.)
(3) Kaylin: (transmooglification...)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Transmutation, but I think I made my point)
(1) Kibin: (Not really.)
(1) Kibin: (It's not specifically a healing spell.)
(1) Kibin: (It simply turns any type of stone into flesh.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (How does Eldon know if Restoration is positive energy, transmutation or something else.)
(1) Kibin: (Because restoration restores someone?)
(1) Kibin: (Which would be considered healing?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (For that matter, our GM has made it clear before that non-spellcasters may not even know specific spells at that level.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (And stone to flesh restores someone, too.)
(1) Kibin: (No, it doesn't. It turns stone into flesh.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yes. And if that stone used to be a character, they are restored.)
(1) Kibin: (No they're not. They're simply turned from stone back to flesh.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (And thus restored to their original material.)
(1) Kibin: (Same reason why flesh to stone isn't negative energy either. It simply turns one material into another material.)
(3) Kaylin: (and a non-mage can differentiate between technical terms how?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Exactly my point!)
(1) Kibin: (Because I'm using common language?)
(3) Kaylin: (Tell me, what's the difference between a span of a vector space and a linear combination?)
(3) Kaylin: (Common language and technical language mean different things)
(2) GM: (not that the SRD version of Restoration specifies energy type, or even if energy is involved at all.....)
(1) Kibin: (That's more complex. :P)
(1) Kibin: (Meh. :P)
(1) Kibin: (But in my mind, restoration is still a healing spell...)
(1) Kibin: (And healing = positive energy, healing...)
(2) GM: (Don't get me wrong, it is Conjouration(Healing), but it doesn't specically use positive energy, as the Cure line does.)
(2) GM: But anyway......
(1) Kibin: (Well, if someone that knows about magic would TELL me that...)
(1) Kibin: (I didn't even knew it was specifically a healing spell until I read it in the SRD a minute ago.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: So..."Could there not be a spell to restore his memory?"
(3) Kaylin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+33] -> [18,33] = (51)
whispering to Kaylin, if it was magically removed, sure; this is likely something a little deeper.
(1) Kibin: (And did you know that apparently, non-epic people can still do epic skill checks? Nothing in it says that a non-epic person can't use any of the skills there.)
(1) Kibin: (Just that the DC makes it very improbable. :)
(3) Kaylin: Well, if his memory damage is purely due to magical means it's quite possible.
(3) Kaylin: I'll bet this is more than just that, though.
(1) Kibin: We could do like Kaylin's teacher suggested, and just try to get him to remember us...
(3) Kaylin: You... listened... to ... a teacher?
(1) Kibin: Regually.
(1) Kibin: Uh... yeah?
(3) Kaylin: Quick! Someone! Inform the other planes!
(3) Kaylin: the word must be spread!
(1) Kibin: It's not that amazing...
(3) Kaylin: *cough* Right, anyways. To the dwarven mines?
(1) Kibin: I guess so.
** (3) Kaylin herds everyone into a bundle of teleport fodder **
** (1) Kibin teleports with Kaylin, then. **
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Teleport ( level 5, "Instantly transports you anywhere." )
(3) Kaylin: (To the mines!)
(3) Kaylin: [1d100] -> [67] = (67)
(2) GM: Where are you trying to land?
(2) GM: Specifically.
(3) Kaylin: (about 30 feet outside the mine entrance.. that is where the crater wasn't, right?)
(2) GM: And you land accurately.
** (1) Kibin looks around for anything different than last time. **
(2) GM: It's a farily nice day; the sky is a little cloudy, but birds sing merrily away, despite the big crater in the ground nearby.
(2) GM: There's a forested area within easy walking distance.
(3) Kaylin: And I hope we can get in to the portal...
(1) Kibin: A bit harder without Jason...
** (1) Kibin looks inside the mines. **
(2) GM: The entire place seems to be a bit of a collapsed pile of rubble. Those dwarves did their sabotage well.
(1) Kibin: Oh yeah, mines are collapsed.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (That's it...Drop a giant wooden shoe on the evil gnomes!)
(1) Kibin: (Nah, I would list most of the gnomes as neutral.)
(3) Kaylin: So... getting through here...
(1) Kibin: Wind walk! That could get us in.
(3) Kaylin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+33] -> [5,33] = (38)
(3) Kaylin: (Could we really try to flow through gaps in the rocks?)
(1) Kibin: (I've done it before...)
whispering to Kaylin, the thin crack clause from the inherited Gaseous Form - yep.
(4) Elorin: ("It can pass through small holes or narrow openings, even mere cracks, with all it was wearing or holding in its hands, as long as the spell persists.")
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (They sure look evil to me. The're neither mislead nor crazy.)
(3) Kaylin: (We don't know if the average citizen is mislead or not)
(2) GM: (Alignment is in the top ten of most hotly debated interpertation issues in D&D)
(3) Kaylin: Yeah, we could do that.
(3) Kaylin: Elorin, your show.
(1) Kibin: (90% of regular people are neutral... basically they don't care either way.)
(4) Elorin: Elorin casts Wind Walk ( level 6, "You and your allies turn vaporous and travel fast" )
(4) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
** (3) Kaylin cloudifies and goes on through **
** (1) Kibin follows Kaylin. **
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot floaties. **
(2) GM: Search check?
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot floaties after Kibin. **
(1) Kibin: (That would be Kaylin.)
(3) Kaylin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [1,10] = (11)
(2) GM: You're trying to find a specific thing in a rubble heap where all your bearings have been kinds flattened. You need to find it before you can go through.
(2) GM: And you spend an hour wandering through cracks in rock, finding naught but yourself. And even that, only barely.
(3) Kaylin: (does it require a search check just to go pretty much straight until you hit a wall, and then go up?)
** (1) Kibin goes ahead of Kaylin and searches for it himself... **
(1) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [14,23] = (37)
(2) GM: And Kibin finds it in reasonably short order.
(1) Kibin: (Yes. Because the walls are rubble.)
** (1) Kibin goes through the portal, then. **
(3) Kaylin: (There's only so much space in a cave that can be filled by rubble)
** (3) Kaylin follows Kibin **
** (1) Kibin deghostifies when through the portal, and lands. **
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot follows Kaylin **
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Presumably, Elorin is also somewhere in the line.)
(2) GM: Place was deliberately demolished in a way to make it hard to work with; the walls were collapsed in, the roof was collapsed in, most the rocks were arranged to be loose so that if some were pulled out, others would fall back in behind, hopefully hitting and trapping whoever moved the first. Those dwarves wre out for blood.
(2) GM: [1d100] -> [89] = (89)
(2) GM: The place is empty, and pretty much exactly as you remember it.
(1) Kibin: (By the way, what do you think of the 27d6 delayed blast fireball? : )
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Any chance we could blow up this place after we get Jason back?)
(2) GM: You mean the thrown sneak attack? Could work.
(1) Kibin: (If used as a thrown weapon, it should get sneak attack damage, at least to a single select target.)
(1) Kibin: (All it requires is two people's standard actions._
(1) Kibin: (Yay! Now we just need Kaylin to think of it.)
(2) GM: Move to retrieve it from the designated spot, too.....
(3) Kaylin: (And to pick up delayed blast fireball as a spell, too)
(1) Kibin: (Okay, a standard action for Kaylin, a full action for me.)
(1) Kibin: (Still, not too bad.)
(1) Kibin: (Especially if empowered. :D)
(1) Kibin: (36d6 damage of toasty goodness.)
(1) Kibin: (126 average damage.)
(2) GM: Compared to a flanking Bite/Claw/Claw routine that would just take one full attack action, deal sneak attack damage three times, plus get a bonus to attacks, to both yourself and the other meleer, and would still let the other rmeleer attack, and would still let spells be cast......
(1) Kibin: (Yeah....)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Or maximized.)
(1) Kibin: (That would take a 10th level slot.)
(2) GM: Anyway - .... You're in a circular chamber, with eight passageways leading out; letters have been painted over them - A, K, U, D, L, R, F, B; one letter of each passageway. The cieling is about twenty feet high, and the passages are about fifteen feet tall. The walls, cieling, and floor all seem to be of the same material; it gives the impression of being totally transparent, but all you can see on the other side is blackness, like looking into a totally starless night sky.
(1) Kibin: (Unless....)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, but if we took this place down while still in it, bad things would probably happen.)
(1) Kibin: (Huh?)
(1) Kibin: (Who suggested that?)
(1) Kibin: (We're talking about combining sneak attack with a delayed blast fireball for utter ownage...)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (...'flanking Bite/Claw/Claw routine'...)
(1) Kibin: (We're not talking about taking this place down!)
(1) Kibin: (We're talking about combining spells with sneak attacks in a very inventive manner.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (I'm talking about taking this place down.)
(1) Kibin: (Why?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Seal the gnomes in.)
(1) Kibin: (Okay...)
(1) Kibin: (But how does that have anything to do with what we were talking about?)
(3) Kaylin: (He's talking about something that you're not)
(1) Kibin: (Anyway...)
(3) Kaylin: (there's no relation between the two subjects)
** (1) Kibin walks towards the center, weapon out at the ready. **
(2) GM: [4d100] -> [54,58,76,74] = (262)
(2) GM: The trip is uneventful.
(2) GM: Route?
** (1) Kibin pokes the sword at the portal again. **
(1) Kibin: (Huh?)
(2) GM: Door path to the Centre?
(1) Kibin: (RUUU?)
(2) GM: Good.
(2) GM: And the sword hits something solid on it's way into the portal.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (KangaRUUU!)
(1) Kibin: (Good? O.o)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Bad joke, based on a David Weber book...)
(1) Kibin: It's still sealed. How do we get through?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Running out of tums)
(3) Kaylin: I wonder if being ethereal can get through?
(1) Kibin: Maybe, but I'm anchored to the material plane right now. Or at least whatever plane I'm in.
(3) Kaylin: (So do we know for sure what that is?)
(2) GM: What tests have you run on it?
(3) Kaylin: (poking swords through)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hmm...Bread with jam...)
(2) GM: And how would that get you any information on the material?
** (5) Narf wanders off **
(2) GM: It's solid, you know that.
(1) Kibin: (Uh, does ELDON wander off, or just the player?)
(2) GM: Would appear to be the player.
** (1) Kibin pokes the sword at the solid thing some more. **
(3) Kaylin: (Did permanent effects require a caster level check to survive on the gnome plane?)
(2) GM: Nah, nor did always-on items; rolling for and aducating that would be... painful.
(2) GM: Listen check?
(3) Kaylin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+4] -> [2,4] = (6)
(1) Kibin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [6,21] = (27)
whispering to Kaylin, The place is silent as a tomb.
whispering to Kibin, you hear a slight tink of metal on metal.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Back)
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, and some of us have permanent spells that would be better if it didn't go poof.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20] -> [7] = (7)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, The place is silent as a tomb.
(4) Elorin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [17,10] = (27)
(1) Kibin: Yup, it's metal. At least, unless a wall of force sounds like metal when it's hit.
whispering to Elorin, you hear a slight tink of metal on metal as Kibin pokes his sword into the portal.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (The problem with strawberries is the're too sweet.)
(3) Kaylin: (Would a Disintegrate work if cast through a portal?)
(1) Kibin: (Try it? O.o)
whispering to Kaylin, This is not a magical effect you've ever really studied. Maybe, maybe not.
(3) Kaylin: Kibin, about how far could the sword go through before hitting metal?
whispering to Kibin, Only an inch or so; not far at all.
** (1) Kibin pokes the sword through again, and measures how far it goes through. Preferably as accurate as possible. **
whispering to Kibin, One inch from where you lose sight of the sword to where it hits something. Not sure how thick the portal itself is, though.....
(1) Kibin: Seems like an inch.
** (5) Narf produces a ruler from thin air. **
(1) Kibin: Of course, that could just be the portal.
(1) Kibin: (Could you stop that? Very confusing.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (How so?)
(2) GM: (And the king passes judgement on his kidnapper.)
(1) Kibin: (It looks like any other action?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, but it's got a different name. It's like an OOC:)
(3) Kaylin: hmm...
** (3) Kaylin rolls up the co-ordinate parchment and makes a few regularly spaced ticks on it **
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Mmm...Peanut butter...)
** (1) Kibin looks at the parchment, asking, "What are you doing?" **
(3) Kaylin: You're better co-ordinated than I am, Kibin... mind poking this through until it hits?
(3) Kaylin: Don't let it get crumpled
** (1) Kibin shrugs, and does that. **
(3) Kaylin: (So ticks are about .5 inch each, how many?)
(2) GM: Two.
(1) Kibin: Same thing as before.
(3) Kaylin: All right.
(3) Kaylin: Guess I'll try disintegrating that.
** (1) Kibin takes the parchment and his sword with him, stepping back. **
(3) Kaylin (whispering): So I have no idea what casting a spell through a portal or when part of me is through a portal will do?)
** (1) Kibin steps back to the corridor. Can't be too careful. **
(2) GM: Knoweledge(The Planes)?
(3) Kaylin: Knowledge: The Planes Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [2,18] = (20)
(3) Kaylin: (gaaah. Where are all the good rolls when I need them?)
whispering to Kaylin, Nope, none whatsoever.
(1) Kibin: (With me, apparently.)
(3) Kaylin: (*hiss*)
(3) Kaylin: Well, I'm have no idea what good this might do...
(1) Kibin: Which is why I'm way back here.
** (3) Kaylin sticks her finger through to the first bend thing **
(2) GM: Where are you standing?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Knuckle?)
(3) Kaylin: (Let's see, portal's on the floor?)
(2) GM: Yep.
(1) Kibin: (*wonders how safe it is to touch the thing you're disintergrating.*)
(3) Kaylin: (should be off to the side then, enough to poke a finger through but not have anything else dangling through
** (3) Kaylin pokes finger through 'til it hits metal, then tries to pull it back a small amount **
(1) Kibin: (*also wonders why more spellcasters don't disintergrate the ground opponents are standing on*)
whispering to Kaylin, And it's an inch to the metal.
(3) Kaylin: (10 foot drop isn't very much?)
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Disintegrate ( level 6, "Makes one creature or object vanish." )
(2) GM: Transmute Rock to Mud, followed by a Quickened Dispel Magic is usually more effective?
(2) GM: Attack roll?
(1) Kibin: (Hmmmmph.)
(3) Kaylin: Ranged Touch Attack Roll: [1d20+8] -> [8,8] = (16) ===> Damage: [0+0] -> 0
(2) GM: And caster level check?
(1) Kibin: (Disintergrate really needs to disintergrate more matter.)
(3) Kaylin: [1d20+17] -> [20,17] = (37)
(3) Kaylin: (HAH!)
(1) Kibin: (Maybe modified.... holy crap.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Does it really need an attack roll?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Much less ranged?)
(4) Elorin: (should be +18 with Spell Power)
(2) GM: Yeah. Don't roll a 1 in here.
(3) Kaylin: (it seems like it'd be hard to miss a metal sheet 1/2 an inch in front of you)
(1) Kibin: (*touches the opponent with a finger, casts Disintergrate, and misses. :D)
(3) Kaylin: (Elorin, isn't it only for spell variables though?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (A one would mean your finger twitched, pointing back at you...)
(2) GM: No, it's caster level for all purposes. Range, Dispel checks, volume affected......
(3) Kaylin: (oh, cool.)
(2) GM: Wisdom checks, anyone?
(1) Kibin: Wis check: [1d20+4] -> [16,4] = (20)
(3) Kaylin: Wis check: [1d20+2] -> [7,2] = (9)
(2) GM: ...SR penetration, damage....
(1) Kibin: (I can see clearly now the fog is gone...)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20] -> [7] = (7)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Weeeee....)
whispering to Kibin, You smell something that's slightly caustic.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (All the wisdom of a Narf!)
(3) Kaylin: (Kibin beat me on a wis check :()
(1) Kibin (whispering): Caustic?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, and wizard means wise man, or so I've heard.)
(3) Kaylin: (Wise arse)
(1) Kibin (whispering): (Oh, acid.)
(3) Kaylin: (*cough*)
(1) Kibin: Hmmmm, that's odd.
(4) Elorin: Wis check: [1d20+8] -> [3,8] = (11)
** (1) Kibin pokes a finger through the portal. **
(4) Elorin: (I need to go eat dinner)
whispering to Kibin, You feel something hot and wet. Very hot. Reflex save?
** (3) Kaylin cautiously pokes through a little more **
(1) Kibin: (Can I make a reflex save to stop Kaylin?)
(1) Kibin: Reflex save: [1d20+26] -> [16,26] = (42)
(2) GM: Opposed Initiative checks.
(3) Kaylin: (Erm. What's going on here...)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+7] -> [7,7] = (14)
(3) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [12,2] = (14)
(1) Kibin: (Dang.)
(3) Kaylin: (oh please let me fail)
(1) Kibin: (REROLL)
(3) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [6,2] = (8)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+7] -> [20,7] = (27)
(1) Kibin: (Ha! Natural 20!)
(2) GM: Yeah, you manage to stop Kaylin, after having pulled your finger out.
whispering to Kibin, Before you got singed.....
(3) Kaylin: What's the matter?
** (1) Kibin grabs Kaylin's arm, and pulls it back out of the portal. **
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: ([Bad dice format] - [druid]Unnatural twenty! The dice was manufactured![Bad dice format] - [/druid])
(1) Kibin: I'm not too sure you want to be go touching lava...
(3) Kaylin: Lava?
(1) Kibin (whispering): I suppose you mean hot hot, not acid hot.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [10d10.vs(2)] -> [2,1,2,8,9,4,6,8,7,5] = (9)
(1) Kibin (whispering): Since I'm immune to acid. :)
(3) Kaylin: (how do you get _that_ conclusion from a Wis check? :P)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [10d10.vs(9)] -> [6,1,6,6,7,9,6,8,2,1] = (1)
(1) Kibin: (I didn't. O.o)
whispering to Kibin, Both, actually....
(1) Kibin: (Remember when I poked my finger in?)
(3) Kaylin: (yeah)
(1) Kibin (whispering): Ah.
(2) GM: In character. Kaylin had a question you haven't answered yet....
(1) Kibin: Yeah, I put my finger in before you...
(1) Kibin: (*wonders what the question was that he was supposed to answer.)
(2) GM: "Lava?"
(1) Kibin: Well, maybe not lava. Just a liquid that's very hot.
(3) Kaylin: That's odd... why would there be ...
(1) Kibin: Which smells kind of like acid... hmmm.
(3) Kaylin: They must be serious about blocking this portal
(1) Kibin: Well, if you have a way to cool it down?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Iz am going to peal potatoes. Back in a bit.)
(1) Kibin: From scalding hot, to maybe room tempuature?
(3) Kaylin: Not at the moment.
(1) Kibin: No cold thingie?
(3) Kaylin: Didn't prepare any today.
(1) Kibin: Not even in case you had to use one?
(1) Kibin: Okay then.... I guess we just have to wait then.
(2) GM: Kibin - Charisma check?
(1) Kibin: (How long would it take to cool down enough to touch without it being too hot? Assuming a pool the size of the portal a dozen or so feet deep.)
(2) GM: Depends on how you're cooling it, why it's hot, et cetera.
(3) Kaylin: (You realise how many spells I have to prepare "Just in case I need it"?)
(1) Kibin: (Without anything making it hotter.)
(1) Kibin: (Not really. Sorcerers are better that way.)
(2) GM: Quite some time; depending on the material.
(1) Kibin: (And cooling by just air.)
(2) GM: Make one anywway. Low DC.
(1) Kibin: Cha check: [1d20+1] -> [4,1] = (5)
(1) Kibin: (Ah, charisma test. O.o)
(1) Kibin: (Weee that sucks.)
whispering to Kibin, Failed self-awareness test. Sorry.
(1) Kibin (whispering): Self-awareness test? Huh?
whispering to Kibin, Failed the DC. No more clues from this aspect.
(1) Kibin (whispering): If you're talking about using breath weapon, though about that... but dismissed it as being too weak.
** (1) Kibin asks, "So where will we spend the night?" **
(2) GM: (Mind you, for the most part, Wizard's spell top five level spell slots at any given are greater than a Sorceror's spells known at that spell level)
(1) Kibin: (Yeah. But they have versatility.)
(3) Kaylin: (Hmm. I did actually prepare a Shadow Evocation, Greater)
(3) Kaylin: (So if we're desperate...)
(1) Kibin: (And that's why we have those spells! To keep a little versatility. :)
(3) Kaylin: (Don't make me Forcecage you and then start hitting you with Enervations :)
(1) Kibin: (Then I'll chase after you as a wraith. :P)
(2) GM: (Wight CR of something like 2 or 3.)
(1) Kibin: (Hmmm.)
(1) Kibin: (Isn't the undead type chosen by hitdice?)
(3) Kaylin: (Would an interrogation spell designed to make the subject tell the truth AND be terrified of you be Evil?)
(3) Kaylin: (I'm thinking it'd be fun to do that to a gnome next time we capture one...)
(2) GM: No, as cause Fear and the like don't have the [Bad dice format] - [Evil] descriptor.
(3) Kaylin: (Awesome)
(4) Elorin: (back)
(2) GM: So, who's doing what?
(2) GM: Isn't it nice that wizards can leave slots unprepared, so that they can do whatever with a mere 15 minutes notice?
(3) Kaylin: (And I keep forgetting that they can do that)
** (1) Kibin waits for the person with magic spells who usually decides where we stay to suggest something. **
(2) GM: So.... anyone making any suggestions? Or are you just all standing around looking at each other for an hour?
(3) Kaylin: (Sounds good to me)
(2) GM: Okay, so you all stand around looking at each other for an hour........
(2) GM: [1d100] -> [10] = (10)
(3) Kaylin: (unless someone else has something to say?)
(2) GM: [1d3] -> [3] = (3)
(2) GM: And at some point, three of the metal beasts hop out of the portal.
(2) GM: Roll for initiative.
(3) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [14,2] = (16)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+7] -> [8,7] = (15)
(2) GM: [1d20+3] -> [16,3] = (19), [1d20+3] -> [8,3] = (11), [1d20+3] -> [16,3] = (19)
(4) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [10,6] = (16)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+6] -> [1,6] = (7)
(3) Kaylin: (three? O.o)
(3) Kaylin: (Guess it's cool enough to go through now)
(2) GM: Kaylin, Elorin - roll off.
(2) GM: [1d20+3] -> [4,3] = (7), [1d20+3] -> [1,3] = (4)
(3) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [2,2] = (4)
(4) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [12,6] = (18)
(2) GM: Beast 1, Beast 3, Elorin, kaylin, Kibin, Beast 2, Eldon
(2) GM: Oh, hey, Kibin - what form do you happen to be wearing at the moment?
(1) Kibin: (Kobold form.)
(2) GM: [1d4] -> [1] = (1)
(1) Kibin: (I can dodge bullets, AND they don't shoot me on sight!)
(2) GM: Except that you got picked by the random roll......
(1) Kibin: (O.o)
(2) GM: The first beast fires twice.
(3) Kaylin: (let's see that bullet-dodging mojo)
(2) GM: [1d20+15] -> [8,15] = (23) for [10d6] -> [6,2,5,1,2,4,3,4,1,5] = (33) and [1d20+15] -> [16,15] = (31) for [10d6] -> [4,1,1,1,4,6,3,5,3,3] = (31)
(1) Kibin: (*uses the force...*)
(1) Kibin: (Meh. Force deflected the first one at least.)
(4) Elorin: (these are the old model? Good, they don't hit as often)
(4) Elorin: (Heroes' Feast: [1d8+10] -> [4,10] = (14))
(2) GM: And two loud bangs ring out; one misses, the other knocks Kibin for a little bit of a loop.
(2) GM: The third beast watches carefully.....
(2) GM: Elorin?
(4) Elorin: (Oh, right, I haven't cast Tongues yet)
(4) Elorin: Elorin casts Tongues ( level 4, "Speak any language" )
(4) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(4) Elorin: (touch AC 29)
(2) GM: Readed action: [1d20+15] -> [4,15] = (19) for [10d6] -> [1,1,4,1,4,2,6,1,6,1] = (27)
** (4) Elorin dodges **
(2) GM: And that's a miss. A shot rings out, and the far wall vibrates.
(4) Elorin: So, I hear you have a ghost problem back home. Interested in getting some help for that?
(2) GM: Kaylin?
** (1) Kibin looks at the place where the bullet hit. That's probally not good. **
(3) Kaylin: (And if you can hear, and say no, I'm casting Wail of Banshee...)
(2) GM: The vibrations quickly spread and dissapate.
(1) Kibin: (And shaping it so that it doesn't hit us, right?)
(3) Kaylin: (of course)
(1) Kibin: (Good.)
(1) Kibin: (On a side note, have you noticed that I have only died on side quests?)
(4) Elorin: (I think that still needs line of effect, which is blocked by the mechs)
(3) Kaylin: (nope, just audio)
(1) Kibin: (No, the spell desription says that the people that hear the scream...)
(3) Kaylin: ("You emit a terrible scream that kills anyone who hears it"
(1) Kibin: (And the distance for this is listed.)
** (3) Kaylin readies casting a spell for further hostile actions from the mechs **
(2) GM: Kibin?
(1) Kibin: (Technically, wouldn't that mean that if you were scrying on someone that cast that spell...)
** (1) Kibin moves behind Elorin. **
(2) GM: And beast 2.... [1d100] -> [68] = (68)
(2) GM: Hangs back.
(2) GM: Eldon?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: Rapier, one attack: [1d20+26] -> [2,26] = (28), Damage: [1d4+2d6+2d6+2+8+5] -> [4,6,6,6,3,2,8,5] = (40)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Unless there's one I can attack more than once.)
(4) Elorin: (not waiting to see if they respond to my question?)
(3) Kaylin: (I doubt he understood the question)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Oh, sorry - Was out for some of it. What question?)
(3) Kaylin: (unless you repeated it in Common)
(1) Kibin: (Elorin was talking to the mechs...)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (OK, hold action.0
(3) Kaylin: (Although it's probably assumed that we'd try for peace as was the plan :)
(4) Elorin: (you couldn't understand it, but the questioning tone should get through to anyone, I think)
(1) Kibin: (He may not have understood it, but it's still enough to notice that it's probally a question, and that Elorin is OBVIOUSLY not attacking.)
(4) Elorin: (I even took the trouble to cast Tongues in combat so I could talk)
(2) GM: Beast 1 looks at you suspiciously.
(2) GM: As does beast 3. None of them say anything, though.
(2) GM: Elorin?
** (1) Kibin looks to see if there's any acid on the mechs dripping off or whatever. **
(2) GM: Spot check?
(1) Kibin: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [13,18] = (31)
whispering to Kibin, None whatsoever.
whispering to Kibin, You're quite certain of that.
(1) Kibin: (*waits for Elorin's speech or whatever...*)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Poke?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20] -> [8] = (8)
(2) GM: He has been typing a lot, on and off.
(1) Kibin: (Yeah...)
(1) Kibin: (Reaaaaaaaaaaaally long speech.)
(2) GM: (or just can't quite decide what to say.....)
(1) Kibin: (True.)
(4) Elorin: One of our companions got left behind by accident the last time we came through here, and he seems to have taken our apparent deaths rather badly. We may be able to calm him down and get him to leave with us, but we'd have to get to him first, and we're not particularly interested in carving a path through you by force just to aid people who are currently our enemies. If we could negotiate with someone in authority to change that situation...
(4) Elorin: (brb)
(3) Kaylin: (That might be streching a free action :P)
(1) Kibin: (Then it could be a standard action. So?)
(3) Kaylin: (can you say that much in 6 seconds? :P)
(2) GM: Just about everyone is either delaying or readying. Combat time can break here.
(2) GM: Just means that if anyone tries anything, you all have to roll initiative all over again.....
(3) Kaylin: (sounds good)
(2) GM: Beast 2: Potentially leaving you flat-footed against touch attacks, but hey......
(1) Kibin: (Good thing I can't be flatfooted! :D)
(2) GM: Grr! Stupid keyboard and partial typing.....
** (3) Kaylin sits down **
(4) Elorin: (back)
(2) GM: Beast 2: There has been a bit of a thorn in our sides of late......
(2) GM: Slows progress down a might, but we are recovering faster than he's hurting us... mostly......doesn't he ever tire?
(4) Elorin: No
(4) Elorin: As far as I know, it is quite literally impossible for him to get fatigued.
(1) Kibin: (*goes fix a sandwich. Mmm, sandwich.*)
(2) GM: Beast 1: Ah, that explains things. Well, we've almost got the cage set up.......
(2) GM: Beast 3: Still... they may have more of these up their sleeves......
(2) GM: Beast 2: Worth investigating, at least.
(1) Kibin: (During the commercial.)
** (4) Elorin imagines a legion of Jasons wreaking destruction everywhere :P **
(2) GM: Beast 1: Well, we could just put the cage around the portal when not going through it.
(2) GM: Beast 3: That would stop more of them, at least.
(2) GM: Beast 2: Depends on how determined they are. He did have a slight habit of wandering a few feet every time we shatter him.
(2) GM: Beast 1: So a double layer cage. How's that an issue?
(2) GM: Beast 3: True. Still leaves us with the current to deal with.
** (1) Kibin goes look at the spot where the bullet hit the wall, then. **
(2) GM: Beast 2: Oh, we'll get him eventually.
whispering to Kibin, You can't find a mark that would indicate it was damaged at this point.
(2) GM: Beast 1: Yeah, but seriously, how much damage is he going to do in the meanwhile?
(3) Kaylin: (only a few cities wiped off the map :P)
(1) Kibin: (*waits for Jason to find a fusion power plant.*)
(2) GM: Beast 3: Current projections indicate less than the benefit of continued settlement plans.
(2) GM: Beast 1: Really?
(3) Kaylin: (Hey, Elorin, I hope you've been translating this)
(2) GM: Beast 2: Yeah, don't you remember the briefing?
(1) Kibin: (Nope.)
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Comprehend Languages ( level 1, "You understand all written and spoken aspects of all languages." )
(3) Kaylin: (on me)
(2) GM: Great. And who are you touching to understand?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: Sense Motive: [1d20+19] -> [17,19] = (36)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, They seem to be considerig whether or not to kill you. A little undecided at the moment, but not immediately hostile.
(1) Kibin: (*thinks Kaylinj needs a bit more wisdom.*)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Arrogant as usual."
(2) GM: "You can understand the spoken words of creatures or read otherwise incomprehensible written messages. In either case, you must touch the creature or the writing."
** (1) Kibin slashes at the wall of the structure to see what happens. **
(2) GM: Damage roll?
(1) Kibin: (Uh...)
(3) Kaylin: (wait, really?)
(3) Kaylin: (oh.)
(2) GM: Yep.
(1) Kibin: [1d4+5-2] -> [3,5,-2] = (6)
(2) GM: You could grab Elorin and tell what he's saying, but not what the metal beasts are saying.
(3) Kaylin: (works for me)
(3) Kaylin: (only going to understand one side anyways)
(2) GM: Assuming he doesn't stop you, but then, he's probably got a good enough spellcraft modifier to recognize a 1st level spell on a nat-1.
(3) Kaylin: (+21? Yeah.)
(4) Elorin: (hmm, what to say...)
(1) Kibin: (Just say something. It doesn't have to be perfect.)
(3) Kaylin: ("There are more where he came from and we have the best chance of stopping him from causing more damage?"
(3) Kaylin: )
(2) GM: Beast 1: Ah, right, the briefing. Yes. Of course I was awake. We're not allowed to sleep through them. Required attendence, after all.
(2) GM: Beast 3: Riiiight. So.
(2) GM: Beast 2: Pretty much.
(2) GM: Beast 1: Wait - are we broadcasting?
(2) GM: Beast 2: Yeah, (untranslatable) doesn't work too well here, so.....
(3) Kaylin: (Someone just failed a wisdom check :P)
(2) GM: Beast 1: Well, that one spoke to us; it's reasonable to assume he can understand, too.
(2) GM: Beast 3: It's not like any of this is classified.
(2) GM: Beast 2: Besides, we can still kill them all.
(1) Kibin: (Nothing happened to the wall?)
(2) GM: Nope. Nothing at all. Not even a ripple.
** (1) Kibin sighs. He asks Elorin, "Mind making it so that ALL of us can understand?" **
(2) GM: Beast 3: By the way... that thing we were assigned to be doing?
(2) GM: Beast 1: Oh, yeah, hmm... this is an important decision, though. They do have a point.
(2) GM: Beast 2: Yet we don't really have the authority to give him what he asks.
(4) Elorin: Isn't that what asking superior officers is for?
(4) Elorin: (meanwhile)
(4) Elorin: Elorin casts Tongues ( level 4, "Speak any language" )
(4) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(4) Elorin: Elorin casts Tongues ( level 4, "Speak any language" )
(4) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(4) Elorin: Elorin casts Tongues ( level 4, "Speak any language" )
(4) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) GM: Beast 3: Well, yeah, but they aren't here, and the portal's all closed up again. Seems somewhere along the line, someone removed the first layer of the door. Simple enough to replace, though. Course, now it's closed again......
(2) GM: Beast 1: And it won't be re-opnened until schedualed. Right.
(2) GM: Beast 2: Decisions, decisions.......
(3) Kaylin: You could just keep us here until they re-open it.
(4) Elorin: Regardless of what you think you can do about him eventually, he is doing a lot of damage, and we won't insist on you abandoning all "settlement" plans. There are a few planes inhabited almost entirely by creatures that love death, destruction, torture, power, and other such things that we wouldn't mind being conquered in the least.
(2) GM: Beast 3: Now they're all talking.
(2) GM: Beast 1: So. How long was this schedualed to take, again?
(2) GM: Beast 2: Umm... longer than I really want to wait here.
(1) Kibin: What happens if you wait here a long time?
(4) Elorin: If you're thinking about trying to kill us, I really don't think you have the numbers to do it.
(2) GM: Beast 3: We get very, very bored, mostly. These things don't have entertainment suites, as they are military designs.
(2) GM: Beast: Ah, I liked the construction set so much better......
(1) Kibin: Ah.
(2) GM: Beast 2: Yes, always nice to be able to listen to music on the job.
(2) GM: Beast 3: Well, we could use the signal.
(1) Kibin: For being in the military, you really aren't that disiplined...
(2) GM: Beast 1: When they're right there to listen to it? It'd have to be changed, and there's still others out.
(2) GM: Beast 2: Well, specific orders don't cover this situation, we're all about the same rank, and there is a note in the handbook that stuff happens. We've got a bit of leeway in what we are permitted to do on mission.
(2) GM: Beast 3: Do remember, though, if we disobey orders, we can still be court-marshalled if the commanders disagree on the importance.
(1) Kibin: Wouldn't hundred of civilian lives be considered important enough?
(3) Kaylin: Or military assets...
(2) GM: Beast 2: So, to kill or not to kill, that is the question.
(2) GM: Beast 1: Be it nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of superiors,
(1) Kibin: If you DO kill, you just lost any chance of getting that ghost off your backs...
(2) GM: Beast 3: or to suffer the slings and arrows of superiors.
(2) GM: Beast 1: Pretty much.
(2) GM: Beast 2: That is a private's lot in life, no?
(4) Elorin: I seem to recall hearing that your briefings included something about engaging us with an absolute minimum of three, preferably five some time back. We've had the opportunity to make preparations specifically for fighting you since then...
(2) GM: Beast 1: So concentrated fire, then, rather than the standard preparations?
(2) GM: Beast 3: Would seem to be what he's telling us.
(3) Kaylin: Please don't make us kill you.
(4) Elorin: No, I'm telling you that those numbers need to be revised upwards.
(4) Elorin: If you attack, you will most likely die.
(2) GM: Beast 2: Oh. Well, happens.
(3) Kaylin: (So how far away are they from me?)
(3) Kaylin: (Can't be very far...)
(2) GM: Beast 3: After all, any honest soldier knows that they'll eventually take a hit for the home team.
(4) Elorin: A completely unnecessary hit?
(2) GM: Beast 1: Wait, since when are we honest soldiers?
(2) GM: Beast 2: There's still the little issue of the signal and them hearing, with others out there.
(2) GM: Beast 3: So, usher them a few doors down, one of us goes back and chats with the muckety mucks?
(2) GM: Beast 1: Well, I suppose that could work. Course, there's the little problem of damaging them if we use force.
(2) GM: Beast 2: So we'll have to ask.
(1) Kibin: Or we could, you know, agree to it anyway, since we can hear you.
(2) GM: Beast 3: Yeah, but they're, well......
(2) GM: Beast 1: True.
(1) Kibin: And understand you.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Smarter than you?"
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "How long did it take you to learn how to use those?"
** (1) Kibin glares at Eldon./ **
(2) GM: Beast 2: Details....... everyone's smarter than us. That's why we're in the military, rather than in cushy civilian jobs.
(3) Kaylin: They've got a point.
(4) Elorin: Yeah, the masses of rank and file soldiers typically aren't too smart.
(2) GM: Beast 3: Shucks, we keep forgetting you're listening in.
(2) GM: Beast 2: So, you ready to head out?
(4) Elorin: So, anyway, we can move one room away while you use your signal.
(2) GM: Beast 1: Yeah... I'll go talk to our superiors after they're gone.
** (1) Kibin shrugs, and goes down a D corridor. **
** (3) Kaylin goes with **
** (4) Elorin follows **
(2) GM: Beast 3: You going, littler one?
(2) GM: Beast 2: Hey now, he's taller than I am.
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot follows. **
(4) Elorin: ("Who you callin' little? I've seen some of you outside of your shells and you're no bigger than I am!" :P)
(1) Kibin: (Heh, I'm shorter than Eldon.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Sorry...X-Men keeps calling.)
(2) GM: Anyone care to make a listen check?
(1) Kibin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [13,21] = (34)
(4) Elorin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [6,10] = (16)
(3) Kaylin: Knowledge: Religion Skill Check: [1d20+13] -> [1,13] = (14)
(3) Kaylin: Listen Skill Check: [1d20+4] -> [6,4] = (10)
(1) Kibin: (Meh.)
whispering to Kibin, you hear some vague tapping, but can't make out the beat.
(2) GM: So, waiting, going back in, what?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20] -> [20] = (20)
(3) Kaylin: Kaylin casts Protection from Arrows ( level 2, "" )
** (1) Kibin peers down the U corridor. **
** (3) Kaylin casts on herself **
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Oh, now I roll a natural twenty...With no bonuses. :D )
whispering to Kaylin, Okay, now what's this "god" thing?
(3) Kaylin (whispering): Sorry?
whispering to Kaylin, Take a look at your Knoweledge(Religion) roll that you seem to have accidentally made
(3) Kaylin (whispering): Aside from accidentally clicking on the wrong line I don't see a problem
(4) Elorin: (hmm, I wonder how well it would work if PC's got a pool of die rolls 1 through 20 and could pick any number remaining in the pool instead of rolling, but the pool would only refresh when all 20 numbers were gone)
(4) Elorin: (and the pool could only be used for meaningful checks, of course)
(2) GM: Depends - do people know in advance what they're using the roll on?
(1) Kibin: (People would save high rolls only for save-or-die effects?)
(2) GM: The occasional Crit and Confirm...... with Vorpal Weaponry.....
(1) Kibin: (If you REALLY need to do something, use high roll. Otherwise, use low rolls as soon as possible.)
(4) Elorin: (might be interesting)
(1) Kibin: (Save the 20 for really important stuff.)
(1) Kibin: (Eh, removes chance.)
(4) Elorin: (but I don't think this game would be a good place to try it out)
whispering to Kibin, the corridor bends out of sight.
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, with vorpal weapons...)
(1) Kibin: (*I attack the BBEG with my vorpal sword, and choose to use my 20.*)
(2) GM: After a few minutes, a lone metal beast walks in, and gestures down the U door.
(3) Kaylin (whispering): Wait, did you see a problem with my roll? *confused*
** (1) Kibin goes through the U door, then. Keeping his eyes ahead to see how many metal beasts there are now. **
** (3) Kaylin walks on through **
** (4) Elorin was going to ask about an ambush to give Eldon an opportunity for sense motive, but oh well **
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot follows. **
** (4) Elorin follows **
whispering to Kaylin, I saw a Knoweledge(relgion) check that got a nat-1, followed by a listen check with a nat 6
(2) GM: Entering the center room, you see the place is full. A metal beast at each corridor, save the one you came in.... and there's the one that gestured you in on the other side. All seem to carry the new weaponry.
(3) Kaylin: Well, doesn't this look cozy.
(2) GM: They're all pointing at the portal in the floor.
(3) Kaylin: (How wide are these rooms?)
(2) GM: The room is about forty feet in diameter, with the passages evenly going around, and the portal in the center.
(2) GM: Which means that there's roughly 120 feet of wall space, if you count the doors.
(3) Kaylin: So is there a reason for you all to be armed? We're not hostile.
(2) GM: Beast under L: We've had a lot of ... false diplomats... in our history.
** (1) Kibin goes ahead and attaches the sword back to his belt. **
(4) Elorin: (Hmm, maybe I shouldn't have told them to revise their threat estimate upwards)
(1) Kibin: (You think?)
(3) Kaylin: (Yeah, now we got our hands full :P)
(4) Elorin: (then again, they probably would have tried for overwhelming force anyway)
(2) GM: Beast under R: Well, you ready to greet your escort on the other side?
(1) Kibin: Sure.
(4) Elorin: Yes.
** (4) Elorin figures if they wanted to kill us, they'd probably just open fire now **
(2) GM: Beast L: Great. Should be open.
** (1) Kibin walks towards the portal then. **
(4) Elorin: Any of you coming through with us, or do we just jump through on our own?
(2) GM: Beast U: We follow. Keeping the Corridors closed to other wanderers.
(4) Elorin: Ok
** (1) Kibin looks inside, making sure not to fall through. **
(3) Kaylin: Does it look safe, Kibin? (in common)
(2) GM: It's a glowy portal. It's not sight-transparent.
(1) Kibin: (As in, sticks head physically through.)
(4) Elorin: (how much of a drop was it last time we were here?)
whispering to Kibin, Nothing's in the way. You see a set of eight of the normal variety waiting in a half-circle on the other side. The portal is only about thirty feet from the ground.
** (1) Kibin pops his head back up, saying, "Just about a 30 foot drop..." He then jumps through. **
(2) GM: Jump/tumble check, as you aren't in flying form.
** (3) Kaylin goes through **
(1) Kibin: (What about both?)
(3) Kaylin: Tumble skill check: [1d20 + 2] -> [10,2] = (12)
(1) Kibin: Tumble Skill Check: [1d20+9] -> [1,9] = (10)
(1) Kibin: (Oh SURE.)
(1) Kibin: Jump Skill Check: [1d20-2] -> [9,-2] = (7)
(1) Kibin: (Meh. :P)
** (4) Elorin flies through and tries to catch people following him **
(1) Kibin: (Or Elorin can catch me.)
(1) Kibin: (And Kaylin.)
(2) GM: Kibin, take [3d6] -> [3,1,5] = (9) falling damage, as you were the first through.
(2) GM: Kaylin was second, and takes [3d6] -> [4,1,3] = (8)
(4) Elorin: (minor bruising at this level :P)
(2) GM: Oh, featherfalling ring.... no damage to Kaylin.
(1) Kibin: (66 HP! O.o)
(2) GM: Unless she swapped it out at some point......
(3) Kaylin: (swapped out for the Deflection ring)
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot goes throught. **
(2) GM: 8 damage, then. Yeah, minor.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: Tumble: [1d20+19] -> [20,19] = (39)
(4) Elorin: (oh well, your temporary hp is down to 6)
** (1) Kibin winces slightly as he hits the ground. Wings are handy for stuff like this... **
(2) GM: Deliberate jump, doubled the DC, so only [1d6] -> [5] = (5) falling damage.
(2) GM: The eight that escorted you in follow down, and then a large tub, with some kind of fire underneath and a lid on top, is rolled back under the portal.
(1) Kibin: So that's what that was...
(2) GM: You notice the building has changed a might since your last visit. There's some kind of red-colored cord strung up and woven regularly along the walls, a steady mesh that doesn't leave any gaps of more than two inches. There's even a matting on the floor that seems to be woven of the same colored cords. The cords under your feet are about an inch thick, and the entire place crackles audibly.
(1) Kibin: (Oh, did you know that you can apparently put a bag of holding in a bag of holding with no hazardous results?)
(2) GM: (Have you been reading they FAQ? Not in my campaign, save on a case-by-case basis.)
(2) GM: (And I'll be looking at it as a suggestion, not as a rules source)
(1) Kibin: (Oh well.)
** (1) Kibin saves his questions about everything in here till later. **
(2) GM: One of the metal besats: Just wait here; the conference equipment should be in in a moment.....
(1) Kibin: Okay...
(4) Elorin: ((brb)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: Sense Motive: [1d20+19] -> [10,19] = (29)
(2) GM: After a short wait, two more beasts, of the old design, walk in through a door, with the newer models watching the door carefully.
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, as far as he's concerned, it's conference equipment, whatever he means by that.
(2) GM: Between the two is a large, black box, with one side seemingly made of glass.
(2) GM: They set it down, and it lights up.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [10,8] = (18)
(2) GM: Inside, you see the man you scried on during your previous visit; there is an image of what would appear to be a busy office behind him.
(2) GM: Oddly, the office seems bigger than the box does.
(2) GM: Enlightened One: So. I hear tell you have a solution to our little thorn.
(3) Kaylin: (brb)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "As long as you have a solution to your little invasion..."
** (1) Kibin lets Elorin talk, moving left and right to look at the box from different angles. **
(4) Elorin: (back)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Nice communication system, by the way. Bit clunky, though, don't you think?"
(2) Enlightened One: Only the old stuff will cut through the necessary interference in this building.
(3) Kaylin: (back)
(2) Enlightened One: And we've had issues with assasination attempts in the past. This allows a face-to-face with no real danger.
(2) Enlightened One: Which has become a particular issue of late.....
(1) Kibin: For both of us, I suppose...
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Well, Eldon isn't really the diplomatic type...Someone else?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+19] -> [7,19] = (26)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Well, I suppose that can be a sense motive.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+8] -> [2,8] = (10)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hmm...)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, look menacing and sense motive time.)
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d20+21] -> [9,21] = (30)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, He's unreadable.
(2) Enlightened One: Well, your safety is your concern. I just assume you've taken reasonable percautions.
(2) Enlightened One: Besides, by now you've found out about that place, so.....
(2) Enlightened One: You are back a bit earlier than average, though. By quite a bit. Nine weeks is almost a record.
(1) Kibin: Don't your machines return in a matter of minutes?
(2) Enlightened One: Sorry, for unenhanced chances.
(2) Enlightened One: Still. You came to me, so it's only reasonable that you speak your piece.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Someone diplomatic?)
(3) Kaylin: (I think Elorin has the best charisma0
** (1) Kibin waits for the other people to talk to him. He isn't too good at stuff like this. **
(2) Enlightened One: Elorin has the highest charisma in the current group, Eldon and Kibin have ranks in Diplomacy.....
(3) Kaylin: (He really IS enlightened :P)
(2) GM: Ah, stupid alias not switching when I don't tell it too....
(2) Jack Simth: Oh, dinner. Barbeque!
(2) Jack Simth: Back in a awhile.
(2) Jack Simth:
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eldon does have ranks in diplomacy. However, Eldon is kinda pissed, and unlikely to come up with something diplomatic.)
(4) Elorin: (oh well, gives me more time to think about what to say and how to phrase it)
(3) Kaylin: (I'm going to go mow the lawn)
(1) Kibin: (Noooooooo.)\
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [10d2.vs(1)] -> [1,2,1,1,1,1,2,1,2,1] = (10)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: [10d2.vs(2)] -> [2,2,1,1,1,2,2,1,1,1] = (4)

(4) Elorin: (no thanks)

(1) Kibin: [1d1] -> [1] = (1)
(1) Kibin: (Hehe. O.o
(1) Kibin: (YAY GM BACK!)
(2) Jack Simth: Back. Who all's online?
(1) Kibin: (*prods Elorin*)
(4) Elorin: (me)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Me)
(4) Elorin: (I'm looking over what I typed, seeing if I can think of improvements now)
(4) Elorin: (shouldn't me long)
(1) Kibin: (Have to go in 30 minutes...)
(2) Jack Simth: Ah, great; so I'll have to come up with a quick and eloquint response in a few minutes to one you've been working on for half an hour? Fun.
(4) Elorin: We came here for the same reason as our previous visit. Your forces have been attacking, killing, and destroying people and places we care about and we want that to stop. In turn, we can most likely calm down our friend and end his insane rampage of destruction.
(4) Elorin: Besides that, there are much less difficult and costly ways to benefit from other planes than conquering them. Your seeming inability to realize this or unwillingness to change your ways is the reason your plane was sealed a millenia or two ago and your ancestors' magic rendered very difficult to use on this plane.
(4) Elorin: One of the soldiers that first greeted us this time mentioned that your projections of the gains from your "settlements" exceeds the damage the ghost is causing. I think your analysts should instead be comparing the damage with the difference between the gains from settlements and the gains from peaceful trading, keeping in mind that there are many experts on the various planes you're attacking in an art that has been unknown among your people for over a millenia.
(4) Elorin: There are many things skilled mages or priests can do and make that I very much doubt your machines can replicate. Even for such simple things as raw materials, I imagine some of your devices would fetch prices considerably in excess of their production cost. On the other hand, one of the wizards that sealed your plane so long ago is still alive. If you continue trying to conquer everything in sight, he may eventually make the effort to impose a similarly powerful solution.
(4) Elorin: (I think that covers things pretty well)
(1) Kibin: (And it's simple, too!)
(4) Elorin: (and appeals to what seems to be their driving motivation)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yep. Just a few sentences.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Greed?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Or the desire to exterminate all other sapient life?)
(1) Kibin: (Hmmmmm, being a GM is very very hard apparently.)
(2) Jack Simth: So, we haven Elorin, Kibin, and Eldon; Kaylin still out mowing the lawn?
(3) Kaylin: (back)
(3) Kaylin: (got mah dinner and just got back)
(2) Jack Simth: Well then.....
(2) Jack Simth:
(3) Kaylin: (though I'll probably have to leave pretty soon)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (And Kibin said he'd have to go in a half an hour...So how about we end around then?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Long enough to get a responce and maybe a bit of dialogue.)
(2) GM: So, would you prefer to repeat the above speach (as you seem to have it typed up) or just assume it and go?
(4) Elorin: (I'm not sure what you mean)
(2) Enlightened One: (fair enough, then)...
(4) Elorin: (and yes, I have it in notepad)
(2) Enlightened One: Hmm.... you do raise an interesting point. That does match up with what's left of the old records.... perchance do you happen to have some examples of these goods?
(4) Elorin: A few.
(2) Enlightened One: It could make for a rather valuable trade arrangement. I'm a bit leery of handing out our (poor translation) skilled labor to those who haven't grown up around it, though.....
** (1) Kibin looks at all the items on him at the moment. Hmmmm. **
(2) Enlightened One: After all, many of these things are dangerous, as is any tool, in the hands of those who don't know how to use them properly.
(1) Kibin: As we've figured out.
(2) Enlightened One: Still.... you make a convincing argument. Tell me, how much would you part with for one of these older models of the (poor translation: Metal Armor; word sounds like "mech") we've been using
(2) Enlightened One: ?
(4) Elorin: Hmm, something reasonably cheap that would probably be in great demand... I'm sure you have innumerable records of your foes healing each other in combat. There are potions that do that for anyone who drinks them.
(2) Enlightened One: Do you have one on hand? With the chaos lately, I'm sure there's someone in the infirmiry we could use as a demonstration subject.
(4) Elorin: One of my rings sustains me without need for food or water.
(1) Kibin: Which takes a week to do so.
(4) Elorin: Not at the moment, seeing as I can do such things myself essentially for free while the potions cost something to make.
(1) Kibin: But I think we do have some items which would allow anyone to heal people... I think it's only one time a day, though.
(1) Kibin: (Which would be included with the bead of Karma.)
(1) Kibin: (I think.)
(2) Enlightened One: Still... with your admitted ability to do that on your own, you'd need to show us how to use the thing, so we have a way to distinguish between that which is you faking the goods, and goods which are actually functional.
(1) Kibin: (Don't blame me if the rogue gets something wrong about magic. :P)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Right back at you."
(1) Kibin: (Eldon, are you still saving a class level, and feat? O.o)
(2) Enlightened One: Yeah, the (poor translation: metal beasts, sounds like "mech") all record and report regularly. We know you've actually used several of them.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (I dunno...Have to look over my character.)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Not too hard."
(2) Enlightened One: Yes, but you alread have a pretty good idea on how to use them, as you have, successfully, no?
(1) Kibin: Don't suppose you have one that would respond to simple straightforward movement?
(4) Elorin: I'm not entirely certain how the sealing of magic on this plane interacts with potions and similar activated items, but there is the fact that our continuously functioning equipment has not failed either now or before.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Yes."
** (1) Kibin also mentally notes contiously working supernatural effects or spells. Which is good for him. **
(2) Enlightened One: Hmm? Oh, yeah, the civilian models have a much more limited interface. No use elsewhere, though, as they tend to lose the pilots under otherworldly conditions.
(2) Enlightened One: A bit awkward for tight spaces, of course, and most of you are a little too large to fit.
(2) Enlightened One: So you have some of these models you are willing to part with for now, that give demonstratable results, so that we might evaluate them?
(1) Kibin: Well, it MIGHT be possible to use them for stuff such as construction?
(4) Elorin: (hmm, no method of activation for the Bead of Healing is listed. Does the wearer just concentrate on the desired result or something?)
(1) Kibin: (Command word?)
(1) Kibin: (6 minutes and counting...)
(2) Enlightened One: (Unless another activation method is given or easily inferred (e.g., sword), everything defaults to command-word)
(2) Enlightened One: Oh, easily, provided nobody's actively trying to hurt them. Civilian sets aren't designed to stop anything more than light brush, leaves the pilot exposed.
(4) Elorin: (hmm, my Boots of Speed worked before when I activated them here without needing a check. Was that just an oversight, or should I take that to mean the Bead of Healing should work with no trouble as well?)
(1) Kibin: (Maybe already manifested magical energy stays manifested?)
(2) Enlightened One: (That one would have been an oversight.... but then, they charged outside..... can make it a rule of thumb.......)
(4) Elorin: (at least the SRD version of impeded magic does specify casting spells as the only thing inhibited)
(1) Kibin: (I don't suppose there's fog nearby or something like that...)
(2) Enlightened One: (for you to stand on? Rembember, they're looking for things they can take with them and use.....)
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, but just to test something.)
(2) Enlightened One: Perhaps a short-term trade, then, one of the civilian models for whatever trinket you think will work. If everything goes as you say it should, we'l meet again at another time.
(2) Enlightened One: If not, well, we've both lost a trinket, and can go back to the status quo, no?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: Sense Motive? [1d20+19] -> [7,19] = (26)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Ah well.)
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d20+21] -> [4,21] = (25)
(4) Elorin: Hmm, if it works here, one of the beads on that necklace of yours, Kaylin, would make for a suitable demonstration I think.
(1) Kibin: (I thought you couldn't seperate beads from the necklace?)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, He does actually consider the "civilian models" as he calls, them, as trinkets.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Supper)
(2) Enlightened One: (you can, they just stop working)
(4) Elorin: (yes, but only one of the beads has any healing power)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot (whispering): Well, I was more thinking along the lines of is he actually considering peace.)
(1) Kibin: (I call mech! :)
(3) Kaylin (exit): 19:36
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Considering? Yes. He's also not a very trusting sort. If everything works out, he's likely (but not certain) to go with what he's said. He's willing to go back on his word, if he sees sufficient benefit, but won't do so lightly.
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, I gotta go now too. :(
(2) Enlightened One: Well, we can stop it here for this week.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot (whispering): So in other words, he's your average absolute monarch.
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, Pretty much.
(2) GM:
(2) Jack Simth: Well, "see" all y'all in about 2 weeks.
