Server Administrator-> You have connected to an OpenRPG server, version '1.6.1'.
Welcome to Jack Simth's temporary server!
I put this up just for
a short gaming session on Saturday, and stop it after.
Session is schedualed for 10 AM Pacific Standard Time.

** (2) Kibin waves. **
(3) Kelensiya (enter): 09:43
(3) Kaylin: Mornin' all
(1) Jack Simth: Morning.
(2) Kibin: May go AFK occasionally, my sister's friends are coming over again.
(2) Kibin: But I'll make sure to tell you. Hopefully during the boring talky parts.
(2) Kibin: Well, some of the talking parts anyway. Some of them are interesting.
** (2) Kibin imagines a horror film type D&D game. **
** (2) Kibin wonders if Elorin is coming. **
** (2) Kibin then wonders if he remembered to add XP from last session. **
** (2) Kibin gathers drinks! **
** (2) Kibin talks to himself some more. Wheeeeeeee. **
(2) Kibin: Question... Why does it always seem like we use cut diamonds for magical spells and stuff?
(1) Jack Simth: Because most say "at least X in diamonds"; if you use a bigger diamond, you still lose the whole thing.
(2) Kibin: Yes.
(2) Kibin: But if we use an uncut diamond...
(1) Jack Simth: Ah, "cut" as in "finished", not "cut" as in "made to be valued at exactly what the spell needs". Well, uncut diamonds are less valuable (until after they have been approprietly Crafted)
(2) Kibin: True, suppose it's easier to carry around that way. Although, why would the spell care?
(1) Jack Simth: The flaws in an uncut diamond twist the energy pathways out of alignment.
(2) Kibin: Ah.
(2) Kibin: Yay magicbabble!
(2) Kibin: Or whatever you would call it.
(2) Kibin: Since it couldn't exactly be called technobabble.
(4) Elorin (enter): 10:16
(2) Kibin: Yay! We can start now!
(1) Jack Simth: Morning. Still missing Narf/Eldon.
(2) Kibin: And elorin, you forgot the wealth stuff on the forums.
(4) Elorin: Yeah, I'm looking at the list and adding it up now
(2) Kibin: Jack, do you mind that I priced stuff I don't use at half-price, and stuff I use at full-price?
(1) Jack Simth: Not too bad; reflects probable character impact, which is what I'm after, really.
(2) Kibin: Uh.
(2) Kibin: The way you said that, it seems like you're going to subject us to a mages disjunction.
(4) Elorin: (brb)
(1) Jack Simth: Mwahahahahahahaha.....
(2) Kibin: Great, another thing to avoid.
(2) Kibin: Any tips for being the GM?
** (2) Kibin yawns. **
(2) Kibin: And before you think of using a mages disjuction, remember in your calculations all of my money is in the portable hole.
(1) Jack Simth: Well, 25 minutes after.....
Moving to room 'D and D'..

(2) Kibin: (Yay, I'm number 2!)
(3) Kaylin (enter): 10:31
(4) Elorin (enter): 10:31
(2) Kibin: (Last we were negotiating...)(
(1) Jack Simth: When we last left our heroes, they were in delicate negotiations with the ruler of a world.....
(2) Kibin: (Hmmm, AFK for a while. Elorin is heading the negotiations anyway.)
(1) Enlightened One: Daniel, would you go fetch one of the civilian models? For our end of the demonstration, of course.
(1) GM: One of the military metal beasts walks out of the circle; the door is opened for a short time, it steps through, and the door closes behind.
(4) Elorin: (let's see, how exactly does command word activation work? Do you have to be holding the item to activate it, or does speaking the word within hearing range activate it regardless?)
(1) GM: It has to be attended by whoever is activating it, although I do allow intelligent items in the attender's possesion to activate them when it is either: a) in the holder's interests, or b) the intelligent item has dominence
(1) GM: Otherwise you have some severe problems when your opponent makes his listen check to get the command word for those Boots of teleportation or whatever.

(4) Elorin: (ok, so we can tell them the command words aloud after handing it over without activating it prematurely)
(1) GM: 900 miles straight up..... got air? Or 900 miles straight down - how much damage would that do? Or maybe just to the inside of an active volcano he happens to know about.....
(4) Elorin: Kaylin, I believe one of the powers on that necklace of yours should do for this demonstration.
(3) Kaylin: Which one would you like, specifically?
(4) Elorin: The healing one.
** (3) Kaylin hands it to Elorin **
** (4) Elorin goes into explanation mode for the Enlightened One **
(4) Elorin: This can heal wounds, cure almost any disease, or cure blindness or deafness once per day.
(2) Kibin: (Back>)
(4) Elorin: Its power is activated by touching the intended target of the healing while holding it and speaking a particular word.
(1) GM: (handing the entire strand over?)
(3) Kaylin: (The entire strand consists of a bead of healing, so yes)
(4) Elorin: (can't remove the bead without making it powerless)
(1) Enlightened One: Sounds useful for my retirement. And it can do all of these once per day?
(4) Elorin: Only one.
(4) Elorin: You can choose which power to use each day, but any use expends its power for the day.
(2) Kibin: (Wha?)
(4) Elorin: (the only other bead it's got is the bead of blessing, and I don't feel like explaining that one)
(2) Kibin: (EACH special bead can be used once per day.)
(4) Elorin: (plus, that one's spell trigger and they don't have anyone who could activate it)
(2) Kibin: (True.)
(1) GM: After a few minutes, a large, skelatal, yellow beast with a gnome visible through odd-looking eye sockets in it's "skull". The thing has the same interlocking metal cylinders as the military ones, but little to no armor plating; you're pretty sure you could put an arrow into the driver without actually damaging the beast, if you needed to do so.
(1) GM: Or a sword, or a claw, or whatever, really, although the metal cage would get in the way, much like plate mail.
(1) GM: The door to the outside is opened and closed behind him. Some black, oily smoke wafts in from outside.
(4) Elorin: (let's see, how much did we decide on for the price of the infinite arrows quiver?)
(4) Elorin: (adding up costs and I can't quite remember that one)
(2) Kibin: (Heh, be right back again.)
(1) GM: I think we called it 11,700. On a side note, it actually produces +2 arrows for you.....
(1) GM: Not that it stacks with the enhancement your bow pretty much always has....
(1) Enlightened One: Daniel, you may go; leave the civvy unit behind.
(1) GM: Oddly, "Daniel" just grins.
(1) GM: And says, in Common, "FACE ME!"
(1) GM: Roll for initiative.
(3) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [2,2] = (4)
(4) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [10,6] = (16)
(1) GM: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [4,5] = (9)
(1) GM: Metal Beasts: [1d20+3] -> [16,3] = (19)
(1) GM: Kibin?
(3) Kaylin: (must have fallen asleep during diplomacy)
(1) GM: Ah, there he is; mentioned he was walking off....
(1) GM: Dex check: [1d20+7] -> [18,7] = (25)
(1) GM: Kibin, Beasts, Elorin, Daniel, Kaylin
(1) GM: Kibin, not wanting to upset the things pointing weapons at him too much, delays, and skips being the first to act.
(1) GM: The metal beasts, under no such compulsion, promply start zapping Daniel.
(3) Kaylin: (Uhh, was that supposed to happen?)
(1) GM: A white beam of light blasts out from one of the newer models.....[1d20+20] -> [12,20] = (32) for [20d6] -> [5,4,3,4,2,5,2,5,3,4,1,1,4,5,3,2,3,1,5,6] = (68)
(1) GM: Daniel doesn't even leave a body.... but a raggedy image is left in his wake, a very angry thing with strands of exctoplasm wafting in a non-existant breeze.....
(1) GM: Nine of the other newer models fire......[1d20+20] -> [5,20] = (25)
(1) GM: [1d20+20] -> [10,20] = (30)
(1) GM: [1d20+20] -> [14,20] = (34)
(1) GM: [1d20+20] -> [19,20] = (39)
(1) GM: [1d20+20] -> [4,20] = (24)
(1) GM: [1d20+20] -> [18,20] = (38)
(1) GM: [1d20+20] -> [17,20] = (37)
(1) GM: [1d20+20] -> [4,20] = (24)
(1) GM: [1d20+20] -> [8,20] = (28)
(1) GM: [50d6] -> [3,1,4,6,4,4,3,4,6,2,3,4,5,2,4,4,6,4,3,6,3,1,3,1,6,6,4,3,1,4,1,1,3,3,5,6,4,2,3,3,4,3,4,1,5,3,3,3,1,4] = (172)
(1) GM: And the white beams of light cause the image to rip, tear, and scatter.
(1) Enlightened One: Strangely, the fragments of the image don't fade out; the just kind of drift off to the sides and wiggle.
(1) GM: (Grr! keep forgetting....)
(1) Enlightened One: I'm afraid we may have to resume negotiations elsewhere. Fred? Lead these representitives to the conference room, if you would.
(4) Elorin: Well, at least that takes care of finding him.
(1) GM: Elorin? Taking any combat actions?
(4) Elorin: (no, just talking and following Fred)
(1) GM: The fragments seem to retreat through small gaps in the floor netting, and vanish from sight under the floor.....
(4) Elorin: (he's died plenty of times already in the past few months, a few more while we negotiate won't hurt)
(1) GM: Kaylin?
(4) Elorin: (too much, anyway)
(3) Kaylin: (nope, just following the rest of the group)
(1) GM: Okay.
(1) GM: "Fred" leads you through more of that odd netting that is strung up everywhere; this section seems to be blocking a hallway; down the large hallway, also coated in the netting, and then he gestures at a gnome-sized door, and says "Through here, it's unlocked".
** (4) Elorin sighs at the small size but doesn't bother protesting before crouching down to walk through **
** (3) Kaylin follows shortly after **
(4) Elorin: (brb)
(1) GM: Inside, there's just barely enough headroom for the elves to stand. It's a rather plush room; red carpet, solid polished oak table (seemingly made from a single piece of wood) suitable for twenty or so gnomes, with cushioned chairs... all sized for gnomes, unfortunately. In the center of the table, you see the "Englightened One" standing. Spot checks?
(3) Kaylin: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+4] -> [19,4] = (23)
(1) GM: He looks mildly comical; as even with him standing on the table, this world ruler barely comes up to your shoulders. He is very well dressed, however. The clothing is clearly silk, and the buttons appear to be gemstones. It doesn't go out to the point of gaudiness, however.
(4) Elorin: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [5,10] = (15)
(1) Enlightened One: Poor Daniel.... well, it was a calculated risk, and he was an honest soldier. Anyway..... they should be here in a moment with the subject.
(1) Enlightened One: Two gnomes walk in, bearing a stretcher, with a bandaged gnome inside.
(1) Enlightened One: This one actually managed to survive a hit from that thing you brought with you last time round. He's getting better.... slowly. Would you demonstrate that bead you mentioned?
(4) Elorin: Didn't you want the demonstration to be without my presence to be certain it was the item doing it rather than me?
(1) Enlightened One: Oh, that aspect is for tomorrow. I figure you'll show the medics how to make it work, hand it to them, we'll break for a few days, and meet again with their report on it's effectiveness.
(1) Enlightened One: Meanwhile, we'll fetch another of the civilian models - get it carried in this time, as awkward as that is - for you to pick up on your way out as your own demonstration trinket.
(4) Elorin: I'm not entirely certain how activated items such as this interact with the Seal here. It could fail to work at all, it could work once and need a day on the other side of the portal to recharge, or it could work perfectly.
(1) Enlightened One: If they don't work here, there's not much point in such trades, is there?
(4) Elorin: Time to find out.
** (3) Kaylin hopes it works **
** (4) Elorin walks up to the stretcher, holding the necklace, touches the bandaged gnome and speaks the command word for healing **
(1) GM: The medics watch closely as the gnome in the stretcher sits up.
(1) GM: They then proceed to unbandage him...[3d8+5] -> [7,1,5,5] = (18)
(4) Elorin: (let's see, cure serious is [3d8+5] -> [3,5,4,5] = (17))
(1) GM: ... and note that the wounds have faded to faint scars.
(1) GM: The medics blink a few times, smile, and finish removing the bandages.
(1) GM: The gnome, now mostly uninjured, jumps out of the stretcher, and gives Elorin a hug.
(1) GM: And is confused when he can't get a grip at all.
** (3) Kaylin grins **
(4) Elorin: (actually, I'd have the ring of protection on instead of Freedom of Movement at the moment)
(1) GM: Ah. Well, he's still deflected by the ring.
(1) Enlightened One: Looks like it works. See you in, oh, how does seven days sound? Should be enough time to check a few of the possibilities you mentioned.
(4) Elorin: Hehe, sorry, it seems my various protective items have a hard time distinguishing between friendly hugs and incoming attacks. :P
(4) Elorin: You're welcome anyway.
(1) GM: Healed Gnome: Ah. Well, thanks for shortcutting my hospital visit. Hmm.... I've still got two weeks left on my offical off duty time for the injury.....
(1) GM: Healed Gnome: Time enough to visit my wife at home.
(4) Elorin: Seven days... I'd rather spare our ghostly friend the pain of dying as many times as you'll likely kill him in that time, but it's not all that much compared to the months it's already been. Still, I'd prefer a somewhat shorter time.
(1) Enlightened One: Well, you said it only works once per day; one day to see if it can charge here, another to see if it can charge on the other side of the matrix... I'm curious, why'd you call it a seal?.. and meet up on the third day, then.
(4) Elorin: That is acceptable.
** (4) Elorin hands over the strand and explains the three command words and which is for which function. **
(1) Enlightened One: The medics take it, and make some notes.
(1) GM: Oddly, you note that the Enlightened one hasn't shifted from his place on the table, nor touched anything other than the table, since you came in.
(1) Enlightened One: In three days, then.
** Enlightened One gestures towards the only door in the room. **
** (3) Kaylin bows and exits **
** (4) Elorin bows slightly and leaves **
(1) GM: Outside, you see four metal beasts; three of the military variety, and an empty civilian model.
(4) Elorin: (Eldon's the one who wanted that, I think)
(1) GM: The place is still vovered with that odd netting, floor, cieling, and walls. More doors are further down the hall, and "Fred" asks a question: "Would you prefer to wait on this side, or the other side, of the matrix? We do have a few beds that might accomodate people of your stature, but cielings and doors are liable to be an issue.
(3) Kaylin: Either is fine with me. Elorin?
(2) Kibin: (Backish again.)
(1) GM: Spot check?
(2) Kibin: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [16,18] = (34)
whispering to Kibin, The Enlightened One in the conference room wasn't there. It was a really, really good illusion, but you noted he didn't interrupt the minimal amount of dust that was wafting in the air; it mostly just ignored him, and kept right on going.
(2) Kibin: I don't mind staying here.
(7) Lae'nial (enter): 11:48
(1) GM: Morining.
(7) Lae'nial: (Sorry I'm late - Had trouble sleeping)
(4) Elorin: Hmm, depends. I don't particularly fancy living in the cramped conditions of buildings sized for your people for three days, but I might be interested in learning more about your culture and what kinds of things your inventions can do if we get a guide to explain things.
(2) Kibin: Of course, I probally don't mind because the beds would be perfectly sized for me.
(1) GM: Fred: You wouldn't be allowed off base, I'm afraid, so all you'd see is the military culture... which isn't much, as we've been on high alert for the past two or thre months. Still, a guide does make sense; can't expect you to know civ..... er... the proper use of our various tools, furniture, and other living arrangements.
(2) Kibin: Sounds good.
(1) GM: Fred: As you wish. This way.
** (7) Eldon Quickfoot walks this way. **
(1) GM: Fred leads you further down the hall, and stops at a particular netted alcove, moves his metal beast inside, hops out, and closes the netting up behind him, sealing his beast in. After that, he mentions "Oh, and did you want to test out that construction model?"
(4) Elorin: Eldon?
(7) Eldon Quickfoot: "Yes?"
(4) Elorin: (You're the one that asked for one of these things as I recall)
(2) Kibin: Uh, since it's designed to be a lot easier to use, can I try it out?
(1) GM: Fred: That is the basic plan, yes. Come along; all run you through the basics.
(1) GM: Fred heads back off towards the conference room, where the civilian beast we left on the floor.
** (2) Kibin follows Fred. **
(1) GM: After a bit of walking, you arrive, and Fred goes over the basics of operation.
(1) GM: Fred: You'll note it only has two fingers and a thumb on each hand; while the control gloves have space for all five. That's because the other two fingers on each hand are used to control the rather limited utilities of the thing. Closing both pinkies simultaneously opens the thing so you can get out, the next fingers in are used to switch between extension settings. Currently, it's in it's smallest form. Getting in is a little trickier, as you need to put the gloves and boots on. On the plus side, it's slightly lower maintenence.
(1) GM: Fred: Once on, it will mirror your motions. Or try, anyway; it can't move very quickly, although it is quite strong.
(1) GM: Fred: If you move faster than it can, you'll have to wait for it to catch up.
(1) GM: Fred: Your toes control the radio..... not that you'll really need to use it.
(2) Kibin: Sounds simple enough.
(1) GM: Fred: Door is a simple latch. Try it.
** (2) Kibin tries to open the door, and get in then, by opening the latch. **
(1) GM: It opens easily.
(1) GM: Inside, you see a pair of boots tied to the floor with oddly smooth ropes, and a pair of gloves hanging from the cieling by similar apparatus. Your own eyes see through gaps in the things skull to the outside.
(7) Eldon Quickfoot: (So...Eldon or Kibin?)
** (2) Kibin gets in the boots and gloves, then, like Fred said. **
(2) Kibin: (Kibin. It's supposed to be a lot easier to use, so I took the liberty of getting in. : )
whispering to Kibin, The thing pulls on your hands and feet, tugging you into the position that the beast was lying in.
(2) Kibin (whispering): It's laying on the ground?
whispering to Kibin, They didn't want to risk bringing another unisnsulated pilot in.....
** (2) Kibin attempts to stand the mech upright, then. **
(1) GM: Balance check?
(1) GM: (you may take 10, if you so wish)
(2) Kibin: Balance Skill Check: [1d20+7] -> [2,7] = (9)
(2) Kibin: (Nah, what's life without danger. :P)
(1) GM: You trip over the thing's feet, and it comes crashing back down with a clang. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to damage anything.
** (2) Kibin hmmms, and attempts to bring it back up a bit more carefully. **
(2) Kibin: [10+7] -> 17
(1) GM: You're just not quite used to something so large.....
(1) GM: That, however, works just fine, now that you're paying a modicum of attention to what you're doing, and you're on your feet in about six seconds.
whispering to Kibin, You also note you're getting basic feedback through the gloves and boots about how much resistance there is to moving in that direction, and can note the location of the floor and by touch, although you can't make out details of texture.
** (2) Kibin uses his ring fingers to test out the various extension settings Fred was talking about, then. **
(1) GM: It's limbs lengthen, but the hallway is too small for it in a larger shape, so it gets stuck, and you can't get it to move.
** (2) Kibin hmmms again, and messes with the extension options again to get it to shrink. **
(1) GM: And it seems that the "Large" size (about 10 feet tall) is the smallest; it seems to allow you to adjust the things height to anywhere between 10 and 20 feet, with a corresponding increase in limb length. Although all that changes is the length of the limbs; girth doesn't seem to be affected.
(7) Eldon Quickfoot: Int: [1d20+8] -> [18,8] = (26)
(7) Eldon Quickfoot: (Trying to figure out how the size change works, mechanically.)
(2) Kibin (whispering): Easy enough to speak through the open frame, right?
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, The limbs are more of those pistons, set up in such a way that they can lengthen or contract within a simple size set. Could cause some minor difficulties with leverage at the largest size, though.
whispering to Kibin, Yep.
** (2) Kibin tries to walk with the thing, then. **
(1) GM: It walks around readily enough, if slower than you could on foot.
(1) GM: It goes at about the speed of a gnome's walk.
** (2) Kibin tests to see if he can run with the mech. **
(1) GM: It continues walking, unable to keep up with the pilot's limb movements.
** (2) Kibin stops, then. **
(1) GM: Fred: Having fun?
(2) Kibin: Not something you'd want to walk long distances with, it seems...
(1) GM: Fred: Yeah, we put them on flatbeds to go from one construction site to another. Really speeds up construction, though, as they can manuver rather large beams rather easily.
(2) Kibin: Yeah, seems to be good for construction.
** (2) Kibin pulls both of his pinkies simutanously, then, to get out. **
(1) GM: The boots and gloves spit kibin out, into the main chamber of the "skull"
(2) Kibin: (The skull?)
(1) GM: Fred: Not a lick of good in a fight, though, as anyone can simply walk out of the way of any blows it might try to land.
(1) GM: (head section; the thing is mostly a framework of metal and pistons, looking very skelatal.)
** (2) Kibin tries to get out and on the ground. **
(1) GM: The door opens easily, and it's a simple matter to climb down the many handholds.
** (2) Kibin climbs down the handholds, and lands on solid ground. **
(2) Kibin: Well, it works...
(2) Kibin: (*snores*)
(7) Eldon Quickfoot: Probably have a slight, unavoidable problem with leverage at full extension.
(1) GM: Fred: Well, are you ready to see your accomodations?
(1) GM: Fred: Yeah, it can't handle as heavy loads at it's largest as it can at it's smallest. Doesn't come up too much, though.
(2) Kibin: I'm ready.
(1) GM: Fred: Very well then. This way, we've got the VIP suites available; you each get your own. All the VIP's are in shielded areas, so.....
(3) Kaylin: That sounds excellent.
** (2) Kibin follows Fred. **
** (7) Eldon Quickfoot follows fred. **
(1) GM: Fred leads you outside, to a row of houses (Gnome-sized, unfortunately) with four foot doors and five foot cielings. The houses are a nice, painted white, with green, well manicured lawns, and even maintained flower gardens. The road leading to them is some kind of black rock, that seems to be made of lots of little black rocks, yet none of them shift under your feet, and they don't come up when you pull on them. Gets a little warm in the sun, though. You detect the faint smell of something burning on the air.
(1) GM: Fred: You each get you to yourselves, although they are all the same. Come in, I'll give you a tour.
(1) GM: Fred goes to the door on one of them, pulls some keys out of his pocket, unlocks the door, and steps inside.
(1) GM: Inside, there's a low couch of some leathery material, a red carpet, a few tables scattered about, and a plastic and glass box much like the first one you talked to the Enlightened One on earlier. There's also several flameless lamps mounted to the walls and cieling, which all turn on when Fred pulls a switch on the wall.
(1) GM: The cielings in the rooms are five feet tall, the hallways only four.
** (2) Kibin is happy he's small enough for this to be comfortable. **
** (3) Kaylin is slightly astounded at all the cool new stuff **
** (7) Eldon Quickfoot is trying to figure it all it. **
** (2) Kibin is a little smaller than the gnomes, actually. **
** (4) Elorin has to stoop to fit in the rooms, but only a little bit (5'2") **
(7) Eldon Quickfoot: (Probably try to take apart a light-bulb...)
(1) GM: Fred shows you several things; a box in the kitchen that's always cold inside, where food is stored (including several largish potion bottles filled with some unknown liquid), how to make a metal box attached to the wall heat up on top and on the inside, he starts to show you a differnt glass and metal box, but then decides against it. Also how to make water pour into the sink by turning a knob. It would be a big sink... if you were gnome sized.
(2) Kibin: (But... I want to learn how to use the microwave! :(
(1) GM: He also shows you around other places; a room he calls the bath room, with a tub in the floor, four foot by four foot and two feet deep, with similar spouts and knobs as on the sink. As well as a ceramic device with a lever, filled with water, that he claims is for disposing of waste.
(7) Eldon Quickfoot: (Don't worry - I think Eldon will oblige. Any potatoes?)
(3) Kaylin: (it's better to cut grapes in half and microwave them)
(1) GM: There's also a very high quality mirror, another sink, lots of tile, and many more of those odd lights.
** (4) Elorin inspects one of these "potion bottles" **
(1) GM: He also shows you the bedroom, where there's a bed that's six feet long and four feet wide.
** (4) Elorin opens it and takes a sip **
(1) GM: The "potion bottles" are glass, with metal caps, and have paper labels, all the same.
** (3) Kaylin tests the softness of the bed **
whispering to Elorin, Tasts rather bad.
whispering to Kaylin, Quite soft.
whispering to Elorin, But you can tell there is some alcohol content to them.
** (4) Elorin puts the bottle back with a short grimace **
(3) Kaylin: What was that, Elorin?
(1) GM: Fred: Ah, yes, the beer in the fridge isn't the best... but there should be some wine and whisky in the cellar....
(4) Elorin: Some kind of alcohol. Not to my taste.
(3) Kaylin: Ah.
(1) GM: Fred heads to a door, which leads to a staircase heading down underground. It's cramped, even by gnomish standards.
(1) GM: Fred goes down, and comes back up with a few glass bottles.
(1) GM: Fred: Ah, Don Perignon '36. Not often I can legitimately open one of these bottles.
(1) GM: Fred: Here, I got one for each of you, as some of you would have issues fetching them yourselves.
(1) GM: Fred hands each of you a small bottle of wine.
(3) Kaylin: Wine? Hmm.. I'll try some.
** (2) Kibin takes a bottle of wine as well. **
(1) GM: Fred: Glasses should be in the cubbard in the kitchen; don't worry about washing them, someone will be by after you're gone.
(2) Kibin: (How do you open them?)
(3) Kaylin: (corkscrew, I believe)
(1) GM: (they're corked, as normal, and have a little wire contraption attached to them so you can carefully remove the cork without dropping any little bits of it into the wine)
(1) GM: Fred: If you want something a little stronger, these places are stocked with whisky, but I don't imagine you'd want to lose your senses in an unfamiliar territory.
** (2) Kibin goes to the cubbard in the kitchen to get some glasses, then. **
(1) GM: And finds quite a few equisite crystal goblets.
(3) Kaylin: If we ever do manage to get a trade agreement going, I know what I'm going to stock up on...
** (2) Kibin places them on the counter, then, and tries opening the bottle and pouring a glass of wine. **
(1) GM: Oddly, every last goblet is exactly identicle, down to a minor flaw in the base.
(4) Elorin: Nonsense, you up for a drinking contest? I think you'll find I can hold my liquor quite well. :P
** (4) Elorin grins **
(1) GM: Knowledge(Nobility and Royalty), or Dex check?
(1) GM: Diplomacy would also work.
(3) Kaylin: Knowledge: Nobility and Royalty Skill Check: [1d20+13] -> [19,13] = (32)
(2) Kibin: Diplomacy Skill Check: [1d20+15] -> [2,15] = (17)
whispering to Kibin, You manage to open the wine, and Decant it properly.
(7) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+19] -> [6,19] = (25)
(2) Kibin (whispering): Decant it?
(1) GM: Kibin opens the bottle of wine with no troubles, and decants it properly.
(3) Kaylin: (decant?)
(2) Kibin: (Oh, that.)
(1) GM: The really expensive wines aren't poured straight out of the bottle; instead, it's mostly poured into another container (called a decanter) with the sludge that eventually builds up on the bottom of an old bottle of wine left in the wine bottle. It's then left to breath for a time before drinking.
(1) GM: Not that many people deal with the niceties.
(2) Kibin: (Oh.)
(2) Kibin: (I didn't know that. Hmmm.)
(1) GM: Your character is more cultered than you are!
(3) Kaylin: (Never poured wine before, I have no idea what the niceties are :/)
(3) Kaylin: (hehe)
(7) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eh. Just rotten grape juice.)
(2) Kibin: (I suppose I seal the glass of wine back up and let it 'breathe' for a while in the glass?)
(1) GM: Most people don't bother; it has a small positive impact on the flavor, and takes about an hour to do properly. Most people go for the wine more immediately.
(2) Kibin: (Okay then, I just drink a sip of the wine then after sealing the bottle.)
(2) Kibin: (My character and I wouldn't wait an hour.)
(1) GM: Nope. Once opened, wine slowly turns to vinegar, after air gets in. It's part of the reason casks are popular at taverns; keeps the air from getting in originally.
(1) GM: It's a very flavorful wine. A pleasant fruity texture to it.
(2) Kibin: (Be back in 10 minutes or so...)
(1) GM: A re-sealed bottle may be good for a day or two, but you can't just put it back in the cupboard for a few months and expect it to taste like wine when you pull it out later.
(1) GM: Fred: Oh, and the distance seer.....
(1) GM: Fred goes back into the entry room, with the large metal and glass box, pulls a device made out of some smooth, shiny, black mateial, with lots of buttons, points it at the glass and metal box, presses a few of the buttons, and the box lights up, to a moving picutre of a forested area, with a voice-over talking about the various plants shown.
(1) GM: Fred: Ah, the nature channel... yech, let's see what else is on.....
(1) GM: Fred starts punching a button that looks like an arrow pointing up, and the scene changes repeatedly; you see men in armor, strange moving drawings, and assorted others. Eventually, he stops, presses another button, and the box goes dark.
(1) GM: Fred: Right; wrong time of day, nothing on. Oh well.
(1) GM: Fred: So, any questions?
(3) Kaylin (exit): 13:00
(7) Eldon Quickfoot (exit): 13:00
(1) GM: Ah, no wonder everyone was quiet.
(1) GM: Hmm... anyone actually still online?
(8) Elorin (enter): 13:01
(8) Elorin: (nature channel yech was last line)
(2) Kibin (exit): 13:02
(4) Elorin (exit): 13:02
(1) GM: Fred starts punching a button that looks like an arrow pointing up, and the scene changes repeatedly; you see men in armor, strange moving drawings, and assorted others. Eventually, he stops, presses another button, and the box goes dark.
(1) GM: Fred: Right; wrong time of day, nothing on. Oh well.
(1) GM: Fred: So, any questions?
(9) Eldon Quickfoot (enter): 13:04
(8) Elorin: (waiting for everyone else to notice)
(10) Kaylin (enter): 13:09
(10) Kaylin: (that explains why nobody was saying anything)
(9) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yes, it does.)
(11) Kibin (enter): 13:15
(11) Kibin: (Crud, got disconnected, what I miss?)
(11) Kibin: (Hello?)
(8) Elorin: (I wonder how much a trap like this one would cost. :P)
(11) Kibin: (Uh.... helloooooo.)
(10) Kaylin: (bbiab)
(1) GM: Ah Kibin's back....
(11) Kibin: Not that I can think of.
(11) Kibin: (Sorry I went away, I really wanted to try that half life 2 demo... shiney graphics...)
(8) Elorin: How does that box determine what to show?
(1) GM: Fred: See these little buttons? They go through a selection of things that are currently being made available. The red one turns it on and off, the blue arrows control how loud it is, the green ones go between shows.
(1) GM: You can ignore the rest, for the short time you're liable to be here.
(8) Elorin: Things "currently being made available"?
(1) GM: Fred: Yeah. It only shows stuff that's being deliberately shown.
(9) Eldon Quickfoot: (Erm, is everyone still here?)
(1) GM: Near as I can tell.
(11) Kibin: (I am.)
(8) Elorin: Interesting. I noticed one scene it showed before you turned it off had men in armor much more like what I'm used to seeing back home than on any of you. Are there some nations that don't know how to build your mechs, was that just acting, or what?
(1) GM: Fred: Just a .... play ... I suppose would be the best word to use, for entertainment.
(11) Kibin: (*wonders if they have D&D here...*)
(8) Elorin: Ah. Any relation to actual history, or just a made up story?
** (8) Elorin might end up spending the next three days watching the history channel :P **
(1) GM: That one, I'm not sure. Was just glancing through.
** (11) Kibin wonders what to do now while waiting. **
(1) GM: Fred: Well, if that's all, I do have a few other duties to attend.....
(11) Kibin: Go ahead, then.
(8) Elorin: Ok.
(1) GM: Fred salutes, and leaves.
** (8) Elorin picks up the remote and starts flipping through channels, looking for something informational about either history or science **
** (11) Kibin joins Elorin, finishing off his glass of wine. **
(8) Elorin: (politics might catch my interest too)
** (9) Eldon Quickfoot starts examining one of the light emitters. **
(8) Elorin: (and, of course, news channels discussing certain events we're all too familiar with)
(1) GM: You find a few odd shows about strange things. None of them really get into useful detail, but many different devices are demonstrated - from weapons that melt steel walls from a mile away, to dissertations on what-if's on previous rulers assasinations and deaths. Nothing particularly useful, however.
(1) GM: The news covers upcoming weather, a week in advance (it's going to rain the second day you're here, but is otherwise going to be sunny, if the news can be trusted), and pinpoint areas to be avoided due to th mobile anomoly.
(8) Elorin: ("mobile anomaly"? O_o)
(8) Elorin: (interesting choice of words)
** (11) Kibin asks, "How long are we going to be here?" **
(8) Elorin: Up to three days. They'll probably let us leave earlier if we ask.
(11) Kibin: Hmmmm.
(8) Elorin: After that, we have some things to do.
(11) Kibin: Of course.
(8) Elorin: (brb)
** (11) Kibin takes the control device, and sees if there's anything mildly interesting on. **
(1) GM: Search check?
(11) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [2,23] = (25)
(11) Kibin: (That sucks. But still very good.)
(1) GM: Lots of interesting things, but nothing particularly applicable to your situtation.
** (11) Kibin goes watch the interesting things, then. **
** (8) Elorin discovers ad breaks **
** (8) Elorin gets very annoyed by ad breaks **
(8) Elorin: :P
(11) Kibin: (OKay, can we zoom ahead 3 days?)
(1) GM: Sure..... [3d100] -> [16,42,45] = (103)
(11) Kibin: (We just relax here, probally share the bottle of wine so that we don't waste any...)
(9) Eldon Quickfoot: (Can Eldon figure out the lightbulbs and the microwave?)
(1) GM: Nothing interesting happens, until the morning of the third day when you hear a knock at the door.
(1) GM: Oh, and all medium critters - Fort save.
** (11) Kibin enjoys these very roomy suites. **
(8) Elorin: Fortitude save: [1d20+19] -> [10,19] = (29)
whispering to Elorin, You develop only a mild backache from bending over all the time.
(1) GM: Kaylin? Fort save?
(11) Kibin: (I think she's asleep.)
(1) GM: Fortitude save: [1d20+14] -> [10,14] = (24)
(1) GM: In that case.....
whispering to Kaylin, take [1d4] -> [3] = (3) points of strength damage from being stooped over too much, and getting bad back pains.
(11) Kibin: (And?)
** (9) Narf whaps Violist with a hammer **
(1) GM: And Kaylin is complaining about back problems, and seems to be having a little more trouble than normal getting about.
** (11) Kibin goes open the door, since noone else is. **
(1) GM: You see Fred at the door.
(1) GM: Fred: Well, it's time. Care to join me?
(11) Kibin: Sure.
(11) Kibin: (Time for what?)
(1) GM: Fred: Good. This way.
(1) GM: Fred leads you all back to the main complex, and to the conference room, where again the Enlightened One is standing in the middle of the table.
(11) Kibin (whispering): As illusiony as before?
(1) Enlightened One: Ah, well, it seems they have to be elsewhere to charge. That little bead didn't work the first day, although it did on the second. Makes it a lot less useful, but still.....
whispering to Kibin, Spot check?
(11) Kibin: Swim Skill Check: [1d20-2] -> [5,-2] = (3)
(11) Kibin: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [4,18] = (22)
whispering to Kibin, Oh, right; Blindsense; yep.
(11) Kibin (whispering): Heh, forgot about my blindsense, that's convienent.
(9) Eldon Quickfoot (exit): 13:56
(1) Enlightened One: Hmm.....
(8) Elorin: So you're mostly limited to single-use and always-on for magic items you want to bring back home.
(8) Elorin: That still leaves plenty of options for trade, and the single-use stuff like potions generally costs much less than that necklace does.
(12) Eldon Quickfoot (enter): 13:57
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (1) GM: Fred leads you all back to the main complex, and to the conference room, where again the Enlightened One is standing in the middle of the table.
(11) Kibin: But it can only be used once.
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Last line I saw)
(1) Enlightened One: Ah, well, it seems they have to be elsewhere to charge. That little bead didn't work the first day, although it did on the second. Makes it a lot less useful, but still.....
(8) Elorin: So you're mostly limited to single-use and always-on for magic items you want to bring back home.
(8) Elorin: That still leaves plenty of options for trade, and the single-use stuff like potions generally costs much less than that necklace does.
(1) Enlightened One: Yes, I suppsoe we should set up a trade agreement... but first, the other half; if we're going to cut back on the recources we're bringing in from off-world, we will need that blasted thing stopped.
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d20+15] -> [13,15] = (28)
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d20+15] -> [11,15] = (26)
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d20+15] -> [14,15] = (29)
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d20+15] -> [19,15] = (34)
(11) Kibin: Sounds fair.
(1) Enlightened One: So, what assistance do you need from us in that regard?
** (11) Kibin looks over to Elorin. **
(8) Elorin: I doubt you have anything that could help besides just telling us where he is and getting us there.
(1) Enlightened One: Well, last report he was over at the cannery.
(1) Enlightened One: Fred tilts his head sideways, and you notice a wire running down from his ear.
(11) Kibin: (It's an agent! RUN!)
(1) GM: Fred: Sir? He's on the move. Right for our trap.
(1) Enlightened One: Finally. So, the Cage is ready, then?
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Er, I need to BRB)
(1) Fred: For a day or two, now. Baiting it was an issue.
(1) Enlightened One: Ah. Let me guess....
(1) Fred: Yes sir, this room.
(1) Enlightened One: Perfect. Two birds with one stone, such as it is.
(8) Elorin: (uhoh)
(11) Kibin: This is a no on the trade agreement, I suppose...
(1) Enlightened One: Hmm? Oh, you can leave if you like; I was just reffering to getting him to you, or vise-versa, and trapping him if negotiations fail.
(11) Kibin: Oh, okay. Thought you meant something else.
(1) Fred: He's the bait, not you.
(1) Fred: Although.... you could work......
(1) Enlightened One: ETA?
(1) Fred: Not much longer. If you'll excuse me....
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Back)
(11) Kibin: Well, now we just wait.
(1) Enlightened One: Of course. I'd rather not lose you on this operation.
(1) Fred: Steps out of the room.
(1) GM: You hear a heavy bar slide into place.
(1) GM: Through the thick oak door. Very clearly.
** (11) Kibin taps his fingers on the table while he waits. Ladadedade... **
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Can I run a sense motive?)
(8) Elorin: Sense Motive Skill Check: [1d20+8] -> [8,8] = (16)
(1) GM: After a few moments, a torn and battered apparition walks into the room, hardly recognizeable as ever having been human, through the walls.
(11) Kibin: (It's probally been an hour, so we can do a complete sense motive now.)
(11) Kibin: Sense Motive Skill Check: [1d20+16] -> [6,16] = (22)
whispering to Jack Simth, [1d20+22] -> [7,22] = (29)
(1) GM: Apparition: YOU!!!!
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+19] -> [14,19] = (33)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: "Us?"
(10) Kaylin: (back. Sorry, had to take care of some stuff ebefore I go)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Sorry, but somebody had to say it.)
(1) GM: The apparitions is facing... not that you're really certain where it's face is.... the Enlightened One.
** (11) Kibin seems completely ignorant of the Enlightened One's imminent danger... **
(1) GM: Roll for initiative.
(10) Kaylin: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [1,2] = (3)
(8) Elorin: JASON! Snap out of it! We're not dead!
(8) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [8,6] = (14)
(1) GM: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [3,5] = (8)
(1) GM: [1d20+0] -> [15,0] = (15)
(11) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+7] -> [12,7] = (19)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+2] -> [14,2] = (16)
whispering to Eldon Quickfoot, He's being fairly honest. Won't actually let you out unless the thorn in his nation's side is calmed down.....
(1) GM: Kibin, Eldon, Enlightened One, Elorin, Jason, Kaylin
(1) GM: Kibin?
** (11) Kibin doesn't know what to do... so he just remains sitting for now. **
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (I suggest diplomacy.)
(1) GM: Okay. Eldon?
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Diplomacy)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: "Jason, we're still alive."
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+19] -> [15,19] = (34)
** (11) Kibin aids Eldon, saying, "Yeah, still as real and alive as ever," poking his arm to prove it. **
(11) Kibin: Diplomacy Skill Check: [1d20+15] -> [6,15] = (21)
(1) Enlightened One: So.... 36, -10 for being rushed = 26.
(11) Kibin: (Enough to make hostile indifferent.)
(1) Enlightened One: Such a pity he doesn't seem to know the language.....
(1) Enlightened One: Elorin?
(11) Kibin: (Oookay. O.o)
** (8) Elorin attempts to heal him **
(8) Elorin: Elorin casts Harm ( level 6, "Deals 10 points/level damage to target" )
(8) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(8) Elorin: [1d20+19] -> [17,19] = (36)
(1) GM: Healing who?
(8) Elorin: (Jason)
(1) GM: Touch attack roll?
(8) Elorin: [1d20+20] -> [14,20] = (34)
(1) GM: And that actually gets past Jason's touch AC. The shredded cloud of ectoplasm reforms into the familiar visage of Jason.....
** (8) Elorin hopes such an obvious sign of exactly who I am as well as being friendly makes an impression **
(1) GM: Pity his eyes are glowing red, and his face still looks like a death mask.....
(1) GM: You hear an electric buzzing start up, and your hair stands on end.
(1) GM: Jason gestures..........
(1) GM: Eldon, make a Will save.
(1) GM: Ghost Telekenesis: Violent Thrust: Standard Action: Attack rolls (one per creature or object thrown) to hit target with loose items. Wait: [1d4] -> [1] = (1) rounds; attack roll: [1d20+16] -> [4,16] = (20)
(1) GM: Also Kibin and Kaylin.
(11) Kibin: Reflex save: [1d20+26] -> [10,26] = (36)
(10) Kaylin: Will save: [1d20+21] -> [4,21] = (25)
(11) Kibin: Will save: [1d20+16] -> [12,16] = (28)
(8) Elorin: (not me too?)
(11) Kibin: (I actually made a better will save than Kaylin. Lol.)
(1) GM: Nah, weight limit.
(1) GM: Kaylin goes flying at the Enlightened one on the table.
(1) GM: .... and hits the far wall. Kaylin, take [1d6] -> [6] = (6) bludgeoning damage.
(1) GM: [1d20+4+7] -> [1,4,7] = (12)
(1) GM: Doesn't touch the Enlightened one at all.
(1) GM: Kaylin?
(1) Enlightened One: You missed?!
(1) Enlightened One: How?
(11) Kibin: Jason, it's going to be pretty useless to toss stuff at the Enlightened one...
** (10) Kaylin tries to talk to Jason in draconic: "We're still alive! Stop this!" **
(10) Kaylin: Diplomacy Skill Check: [1d20+4] -> [11,4] = (15)
(8) Elorin: Besides, if you kill him, who knows what might happen to the peace treaty we just negotiated? You want the war to end, don't you?
(1) Jason: Every day, the bloody hallucinations...... wait.... I moved you.....
(1) Jason: Kibin?
(1) Jason: But I saw you all burn......
(1) GM: Kibin, your turn.
** (11) Kibin still has no reason to move from this chair... **
(11) Kibin: (Is Jason talking in Draconic?)
(1) GM: At the moment.
(8) Elorin: (good thing I'd already have Tongues up for talking with the gnomes)
(1) GM: (Yep)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (On all of us?)
** (11) Kibin switches to Draconic, since Jason is speaking in it, saying to him, "The property that allows the constructs to come back after a short time works on us, too." **
(1) GM: Eldon?
(8) Elorin: Sure, it takes a bit longer, but it works.
(8) Elorin: Kinda painful but no more permanent than having an Astral Projection killed
** (11) Kibin looks over to Elorin, wondering what the heck an Astral Projection is. **
(8) Elorin: (no ranks in spellcraft, I take it?)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Not much I can add, I don't think.)
(1) Enlightened One: I do so hate being left out of the loop......
(1) GM: Elorin?
(8) Elorin: (Aid Another for Eldon's check)
(8) Elorin: Diplomacy Skill Check: [1d20+4] -> [6,4] = (10)
(1) GM: Bringing it to 28.
(8) Elorin: Would a hallucination be able to heal you like that?
(1) Jason: Will save: [1d20+19] -> [8,19] = (27)
(1) Jason: Jason: Right...... but wait.....
(1) Jason: I wasn't......
(1) Jason: Jason closes his eyes, and puts a finger to his throat.
(1) Jason: Kaylin?
** (11) Kibin waits patiently for Jason to come back to his senses. **
(1) GM: Kaylin, your turn.
** (10) Kaylin tries to pat Jason on the shoulder **
(1) GM: Touch attack roll?
(1) GM: (Not that it can work, but there's differences to failure....)
(10) Kaylin: (.. I forgot to put touch attack on. Moment)
(10) Kaylin: [1d20 + 10] -> [19,10] = (29)
(1) GM: Oh, and you're currently suffering from 3 points of strength damage, due to having been bent over all the time.
(1) GM: Despite the congealed mess of air in the way, you manage to reach your hand over to Jason's shoulder... only to have your hand pass right through.
(1) GM: Jason, with his eyes closed, doesn't appear to notice.
(1) GM: Kibin?
(10) Kaylin: Open your eyes, dangit!
** (11) Kibin still has nothing to do, so he continues sitting, and watching. **
(1) GM: Eldon?
** (12) Eldon Quickfoot gives Jason time. **
(1) Enlightened One: La de da....
(1) GM: Elorin?
(1) GM: Although, as everyone's doing non-combat things..... kill combat time.
** (11) Kibin says to the Enlightened One, in the language he can understand, "Patience, it's not like he's attacking you any more. Not like it would matter to you, right now..." **
(1) GM: Jason spends quite some time searching his neck with his fingers, passing repeatedly over the gaping wound in his neck. After a time, he slips his finger into it, and opens his eyes... which no longer glow red.
(1) Jason: Oh my.
(8) Elorin: It's been a painful few months for you, hasn't it?
** (10) Kaylin waves **
(10) Kaylin: Hi Jason. We missed you
(1) Jason: Yeah.... this is awkward. You okay, Kaylin? I have a vague recollection of throwing a few people a moment ago..... and you look a little disheveled.
(10) Kaylin: I've survived worse.
(1) Jason: All months are painful. Immortality isn't worth it.
(1) Jason: I went off the deep end, didn't I?
(10) Kaylin: Just a little bit, yes.
(11) Kibin: I believe so.
(8) Elorin: Just a bit, yeah.
(10) Kaylin: (I need to leave in about 6 minutes(
(8) Elorin: It was nice having a little something for a bargaining chip with you running around, but I would have preferred a less generally destructive one. Glad to see you're back to normal now.
(1) Jason: Jason rubs his neck again, finding his death wound more readily.
(1) Jason: Normal? I haven't had a normal day since the day I died. But yes..... much as it hurts, it's nice to be able to think relatively clearly.
(8) Elorin: Normal for a ghost, anyway. I'm sorry we couldn't come earlier, but it took a while for that side effect of the complex to revive us.
(11) Kibin: So... back to the trade agreement?
(1) Jason: The what? Yeah, you mentioned something of a trade agreement at the end of the deep nightmare.......
(1) Enlightened One: So.... yes, definately.
(8) Elorin: We just finished negotiating to get the gnomes to stop invading everywhere and trade peacefully instead.
(11) Kibin: (Enlightened one can't understand us at the moment, I think.)
(1) Enlightened One: Seems to be calmed down a might.
(1) Enlightened One: Now as soon as everyone starts speaking sensibly, we can get back down to business.
(8) Elorin: (back in the gnome language) He's recovered. If you want to talk with him yourself, I do have a spell that could let you speak and understand any language for a few hours.
(10) Kaylin: (Gotta get packing. Sorry, see you all on the forums)
(1) Jason: Really? At least some good came of it. That was a kinda long nightmare of blood and fire....
(8) Elorin: It's how we picked up your tongue so quickly.
(1) Jason: (Have fun)
(10) Kaylin: Disconnecting from server...
(10) Kaylin (exit): 14:49
(1) Enlightened One: Oh? How's it work?
** (11) Kibin considers that it might be good that most people die of old age... **
(11) Kibin: I have no clue, don't know much about how magic and stuff works.
(8) Elorin: Without getting into the details of magical theory, I cast it, touch someone, and that person can understand any spoken language and speak any language he decides to for the next three hours or so.
(1) Enlightened One: That won't work, then. Hmm..... first time one of these conference tables was ever an inconvinience.
(11) Kibin: I suppose it would be when physical contact is required.
(8) Elorin: Oh well. Back to business, then.
(1) Enlightened One: You'd be amazed how little that comes up in any meaningful manner when I need to talk with someone. Quite thre reverse, actually, it's usually much more advantageous to be in a nice safe room a thousand miles away from whoever I'm meeting with.
(11) Kibin: Seeing as how it's impossible to kill you from here, sure.
(1) GM: Oh, and Kibin - three days rest. You're pretty much fully healed via time alone at this ponit.
(1) Enlightened One: Basically. Any ruler makes enemies.
(11) Kibin: (*likes making Elorin confused*)
(11) Kibin: And I suppose it would make whoever you're doing negotiations with the impression that it's important enough for you to be there personally...
(1) Enlightened One: Most people are either too unimportant for the expenditure of the travel time required for a real face-to-face, or are extremely important, but too unkown to be trused willy-nilly. Either way, a face-to-face with me is rather rare.
(1) Enlightened One: So, now that we've gotten the rough points out of the way..... what's your official standing?
** (11) Kibin looks over to Elorin again. **
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (I think we could say we were sent by - Who's that winged lady represent?)
(11) Kibin: (We were sent by angels on a holy mission!)
(1) Enlightened One: After all, for a proper trade agreement, I really do need to speak with someone authorized for the day-to-day, nitty gritty aspects of what's worth how much, with the knoweledge of things like production capacity.
(1) Enlightened One: You're all looking a little blank....
(1) Enlightened One: ... of course. Vigilantes.
** (11) Kibin is waiting for Elorin to talk. He's the speaker of the group. **
(11) Kibin: (Elorin! :P)
(1) Enlightened One: Still..... it's a route to persue.
(1) Enlightened One: (He can hardly think of how to respond, I imagine)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Elorin is typing - Maybe wait for him to stop?)
(11) Kibin: (Brb, going to get something to eat.)
(1) Enlightened One: (umm... water....)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (I got water too!)
(1) Enlightened One: (back)
(11) Kibin: (I have pure cane sugar mixed into carbonated water along with ginsing, guarana, citric acid, a bunch of b vitamins and other stuff for energy...)
(8) Elorin: I'm afraid we don't have any such knowledge or authority ourselves, but I believe we could make quite an impression on most rulers. Eldon is fairly well known in the court of one king, I believe, and we rendered him some assistance a while back. The celestial who loaned us some equipment and requested that we come is unfortunately dead by now, but I imagine it would not be too difficult to find someone else in authority willing to listen. We are indeed generally an independent band, but the powers Ehlonna has granted me and Kaylin's skill with magic are usually enough to get taken seriously by those in charge.
** (11) Kibin thinks, "That celestial is dead now?" **
(8) Elorin: (insert an "us" between "get" and "taken" near the end there)
(8) Elorin: And no, that impression is not usually made in the form of threats
(8) Elorin: It's more that our capabilities make us useful enough in emergencies to be listened to
(11) Kibin: Plus we save a lot of cities and stuff.
(1) Enlightened One: Ah. So very strong soldiers of fortune, then. Hmm..... well, official or no, we do have something of an agreement worth sticking to. And I suppose you should be compensated somewhat for your time.... hmm.... I doubt our standard currency is worth anything elsewhere; fond of any particular metal?
** (8) Elorin wonders what the Enlightened One would think if we started pulling out tales of the "pillow transformation plague" :P **
(11) Kibin: Gold or platnium?
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: "I'm doing this for us, not for you."
(11) Kibin: (I actually didn't think we'd get paid.)
(8) Elorin: In most places other than here, currency is generally valued for the material it is made from
(1) Enlightened One: Ah, dissention in the ranks, always fun.
(8) Elorin: Gold is the most common that is actually worth very much, but the wealthy often deal in platinum for more compact value.
(11) Kibin: (Most countries carry gold bars instead of using standard currency, don't they? The wealth of a country is measured in gold, not in dollars.)
(1) Enlightened One: So... how much gold do you think you could carry out with you? Should be a standard thousand pounds or so on base.
(11) Kibin: Well, most of us have various items that create an extradimensional space to place stuff in...
(8) Elorin: Well, Kibin's got a portable hole to shovel it into...
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Most countries' currency is in fact fixed by the banks. Scary thought...)
(1) Enlightened One: (Modern money is called "Fiat Money" for a reason; when it comes down to it, even gold is fiat money; the vast majority of any currency's value is based on people's belief that it is valuable. You can't eat gold coins (not for nutrition, anyway), you can't eat an american dollar bill, you can't eat a Japanese Yen, you can't eat a euro. You can, however, give it to someone who things it is valuable in exchange for something you can eat.......)
(8) Elorin: 6 feet wide, 10 feet deep. Can be picked up and moved around as if its contents weren't there.
(1) Enlightened One: Ah, you should be able to carry a fair amount, then.
(11) Kibin: (I could theoretically eat gold coins for nutrition.)
** Enlightened One looks to the side, apparently at nothing **
(1) Enlightened One: (yes, but that's a draconic special)
(8) Elorin: (as someone in a book I read once put it, the entire system of galactic currency is a set of lies :P)
(8) Elorin: (lies that work only because practically everyone believes them)
(11) Kibin: (The reason why gold is valuable is because it's very rare. If it suddenly became common, then most countries would be broke.)
(1) Enlightened One: So, how much gold is at that base, assuming we don't mind cleaning out the counterweights for the elevators?
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Er, no. Not a lie. A convention.)
(11) Kibin: (There are elevators on the material plane, right?)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Money is worth something because people say it is. It's a bootstrap, but it's not a lie.)
(1) Enlightened One: (It's only rare because governments and some individuals tend to hoard it.....)
(11) Kibin: (Not motorized or anything, but still with the basic counterweight and elevator car.)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (The concept that money is intrisincly worth something is a lie, though.)
(11) Kibin: (It's pretty and people value it for that.)
(1) Enlightened One: (it's shorthand, is what it is. It takes X amount of man-hours from people trained in a particular fasion to make a hamburger at McDonald's. We price that effort, plus some profit to McDonald's, at 1 dollar. Later, McDonald's can use that one dollar to give to someone else in exchange for their time and effort......)
(11) Kibin: (Well, the problem with paper currency is that the goverment controls the money.)
(1) Enlightened One: (It's a lot more convinient than full-on barter)
(11) Kibin: (It can choose to print a lot more money, thus devaluing the existing currency.)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (The banks control a lot of it.)
(11) Kibin: (Or it can choose to put some of it's currency in the paper shredder, thus making currency more valuable.)
(1) Enlightened One: (That's really only half-true. Banks can, technically, print their own money, and have it be valid; It's just that the regulations for that are so tight that it's not worth it)
(1) Enlightened One: (but anyway, enough with the socio-economics....)
(1) Enlightened One: (Yeah, you have seen some elevators, or enough to get the gist of what he means from word roots)
(11) Kibin: You have gold counterweights in your elevators?
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Interesting note: Checks can be made out of anything, including tree bark.)
(1) Enlightened One: Yeah. Heavy, easy to transport, reasonably common. How does two thousand pounds sound? That's about what we can get for you without going to too much trouble.
** (11) Kibin thinks of how many gold coins that would be... **
(8) Elorin: [2000*50] -> 100000
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (If they have that much gold, trade may soon devalue it.)
(8) Elorin: (I think that's how many gp would weigh that much)
(1) Enlightened One: We do have some platinum, as well..... but only about 1500 pounds handy for such things. Do you have a prefference?
(11) Kibin: (Ooo, which one would be more valuable?)
(11) Kibin: Appraise Skill Check: [1d20+6] -> [3,6] = (9)
(11) Kibin: (*makes an appraise check*)
(8) Elorin: Definitely the platinum.
(8) Elorin: It's worth 10 times as much by weight.
(11) Kibin: (You're assuming they're the same density and size..)
(8) Elorin: (RAW all coins are 50 to the pound)
(8) Elorin: (and there's nothing to suggest they aren't pure)
(1) Enlightened One: (D&D coins are valued by weight; 50 to the pound. So 1500 pounds of platinum would be [1500*50] -> 75000 coins, or [1500*50*10] -> 750000 gp value)
(11) Kibin: (The reasoning that the coins are valid through all countries?)
** (11) Kibin says, "Yeah, platnium would be better. **
(1) Enlightened One: (Gold coins are also 50 to the pound. So 2,000 pounds of gold would be [2000*50] -> 100000 gold coins worth.)
(11) Kibin: (*pokes GM*)
(1) Enlightened One: Okay. We'll have it carted in in a bit..... and would you prefer to have that neclace back, or take the civilian suite with you?
** (11) Kibin looks over to Elorin again. **
** (8) Elorin wonders how many deathbed patients would be crying out for us to take the mech if they knew about this : **
(8) Elorin: :P
(11) Kibin: I think we'll just leave the mech here, but you can keep the necklace for healing more patients.
(8) Elorin: Hmm, the abilities of that necklace are usually redundant for us, and the mech might sell for a decent amount...
(1) Enlightened One: Okay. Figured you might want the thing for moving the platinum around after we gave it to you. The stuff does get heavy, and that's one of the things the thing is for.
(11) Kibin: And we have a place to stuff all the platnium in.
** Enlightened One looks off to the side, and says "Joe? Give the approrpeit orders". **
(1) Enlightened One: After a few minutes, you hear a knock on the door.
(11) Kibin: I think.
(1) GM: Keep forgetting to change alias....
(11) Kibin: (You'll get the hang of it after a while.)
(1) GM: And hear the bar slide back, and hear the humming stop.
(8) Elorin: (I need to go eat soon)
** (11) Kibin takes out the potable hole, unfolds it, and places it on the floor to see if it works here. **
(1) Enlightened One: You find yourself looking at a blank sheet of very, very thin fabric.
(1) GM: You find yourself looking at a blank sheet of very, very thin fabric.
** (11) Kibin hmmmms. **
(1) GM: (Grr!)
(8) Elorin: Hmm, it seems we'll have to move it through the portal before putting it in the hole.
(1) Enlightened One: Wow. That packs up rather tightly. Where was this hole you spoke of? Sounds really interesting.
** (11) Kibin folds it back up, then, and places it on the pouch around his neck. **
(11) Kibin: (in*)
(1) Enlightened One: That should be your package at the door; the moving equipment can't fit in this room.
(11) Kibin: Well, it's supposed to open a hole to another dimension or stuff... but it doesn't work here.
(8) Elorin: Looks like you can cross this off the list of things to buy and bring back here. Its magic is suppressed on this plane.
(1) Enlightened One: Ah, if that's how it works, yes, it wouldn't. The old tome did mention something about planar effects being halted.
(11) Kibin: At least some magic still works here...
(11) Kibin: Can you carry it just on the other side of the portal, or maybe to another plane?
(1) Enlightened One: Yeah.... the civvy versions do have that much pushing power. We can put it through the Hole.
(11) Kibin: If this portable hole works there, that is...
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: "I think he means the hole to the maze."
(11) Kibin: Yes, I know.
(8) Elorin: (dinner. bbiab)
(11) Kibin: And it's not a maze, it's simply a grid in four dimensions...
(1) Enlightened One: So, is there anything more we ought to deal with, as long as you're here, or are you ready to enter the matrix?
(11) Kibin: (Heh.)
(11) Kibin: No, not that I can think of.
(1) Enlightened One: Good enough, then.
(1) Enlightened One: Joe?
** Enlightened One fades from view. **
(1) Jason: So.... was there anything I needed to know about mixed in all that?
** (11) Kibin speaks so that Jason can understand, "Just that we're getting 1,500 pounds of platnium..." **
(11) Kibin: (Off to the portal?)
(1) Jason: Always fun.
(11) Kibin: (Off to portal?)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yep.)
(1) Jason: (Sure, although to get an in-character answer, you'll need to ask in character....)
** (11) Kibin asks, "Off to the portal now?" **
(1) Jason: Sounds like a plan. I'd rather get away from the remnants of that nightmare.
(11) Kibin: (Elorin is away, everyone else agrees...)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: "It seems like the next thing to do."
(1) GM: So you all pile out the door, where you are met by a civilian style metal beast, carrying four bars of metal, six inches on a side, about thirteen inches long, waiting.
(1) GM: Looks like platinum.
(11) Kibin: Appraise Skill Check: [1d20+6] -> [5,6] = (11)
** (11) Kibin looks at the bars a little closer, trying to make sure that it's platnium. **
whispering to Kibin, you're looking at three quarters of a millon gp worth of platinum, yes.
(11) Kibin (whispering): Shiiiiiiiney.
** (11) Kibin walks off towards the portal, then. **
(1) GM: The metal beast, carrying the platinum, visibly shrugs, and follows at a rather slow pace.
(11) Kibin: (Unless we got here by a faster method.)
(11) Kibin: (Which... doesn't really matter, since those beasts are slow.)
(1) GM: Military beasts open the doors for you to the main travel room, and push the defense screen, with a new steel cover, off to the side.
** (11) Kibin asks whoever will answer, "What was that liquid?" **
** (11) Kibin adds, "That was under the liquid." **
** (11) Kibin says, "Portal, not liquid." **
(1) GM: One of the guards replys "Oh, just a little surprise for anyone trying to force their way through. Some sulferic acid, a few things to raise the boiling point so it could be heated a lot hotter. We figured between the two, almost nothing could get through."
(11) Kibin: Unless they had a way to cool down the acid, and to travel through the acid.
(1) GM: Guard: Nothing's perfect. One of the reasons we keep a watch on it anyway. Takes care of the lower 99, though.
** (11) Kibin asks, "Do you have stairs or something to get through the portal? **
(1) GM: Guard: Hmm? Oh right....... you can't fly, can you. Hmm.....
(11) Kibin: No, I can't fly right now.
(1) GM: Guard: I suppose your winged friend there could ferry you up.
(11) Kibin: (And he's away...)
(1) GM: Guard: Or maybe.... Hey, Jake - you've got the civvy; it's designed to be climbed all over. Use it!
(1) GM: The civilian model beast shrugs, walks over to the portal, grows until it can reach, and sticks it's hands, with the platinum, through.
** (11) Kibin climbs up the construct and through the portal, then. **
(1) GM: Climb check?
(11) Kibin: Climb Skill Check: [1d20-2] -> [10,-2] = (8)
(1) GM: And that's a pass.
(1) GM: Jason just wafts on through. The guard beast visibly shivvers on watching Jason.
(1) GM: Elorin flys on up.
(1) GM: Climb Skill Check: [1d20-1] -> [15,-1] = (14)
(1) GM: Kaylin gets up without incident.
(1) GM: Eldon?
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (It's not a white tree...It's cauliflower!)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+19] -> [7,19] = (26)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Tumble)
(11) Kibin: (Tumble???)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: Jump: [1d20+20] -> [7,20] = (27)
(1) GM: Jump, I could understand.....
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: Balance: [1d20+19] -> [9,19] = (28)
(11) Kibin: (Oh, he's just going to jump, tumble, and balance all over the mech. Inventive.)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Now, how quickly does all that get me up?)
(1) GM: Let's see... what's your land speed?
(11) Kibin: (It's 30.)
(11) Kibin: (20 from base, 10 from boots.)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (30, sorry.)
(1) GM: So.... you jump six feet up onto the thing with a running start, and sit there balanced on a rung.
(1) GM: Leaving about forteen feet more to go.
(1) GM: But it's a very impressive jump for one so small - that's twice your height, give or take.
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (More rolls?)
(11) Kibin: (I think that's a yes.)
(1) GM: Or you can just climb.
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+20] -> [5,20] = (25)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+20] -> [14,20] = (34)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+20] -> [2,20] = (22)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+20] -> [18,20] = (38)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+20] -> [15,20] = (35)
** (11) Kibin in the portal grid takes out his portable hole unfolds it, and places it on the floor there, hoping nothing bad happens. **
(1) GM: Let's see... assuming those are all Jump .... and you're starting from standing, now, that's 3 feet, 4 feet, 2 feet, four feet, and four feet; you make it on the last jump.
(1) GM: You look through.... and see a room much identicle to the one you're in below you.
(1) GM: Rather than the expected extradimensional space.
** (11) Kibin pokes his head through. That's not good. **
(11) Kibin: (Do I see the mech there, and the portal?)
(8) Elorin: (back)
(1) GM: No, it's a different room than the one you're in.
(1) GM: But there is a portal.
(11) Kibin: Huh...
(1) Jason: Yeah.
** (11) Kibin takes his head back out, and closes the portable hole. **
(11) Kibin: Okay, I think we need to move the platnium bars the old fashioned way.
(1) GM: After everyone is up, the hands from the civilian metal beast stack the platinum easily, then retract.
(8) Elorin: At least as far as down one hallway and through a portal to a plane that magic works on
(11) Kibin: True.
(11) Kibin: Too bad the material plane portal is currently sealed off...
(11) Kibin: Carry the bars and drop them through to the twin paradises of bytopia place?
(11) Kibin: Jason, you should be able to summon up something that can carry the bars easily...
(1) GM: Hmm... did you leave that gnome tied up there?
(8) Elorin: (we untied him but I don't think we left any food)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (I thought the people there were taking care of him?)
(8) Elorin: (and we didn't have much choice about coming back for a few months)
(11) Kibin: (No, we didn't TELL the people to take care of him...)
(11) Kibin: (*pokes Jason*)
(1) Jason: Right....... although..... meh, I can get a lot of them.
(1) Jason: Shadow Conjouration, Greater, 7th: As shadow conjuration, but up to 6th level and 60% real
(1) Jason: Shadow Conjouration, Greater, 7th: As shadow conjuration, but up to 6th level and 60% real
(1) Jason: Shadow Conjouration, Greater, 7th: As shadow conjuration, but up to 6th level and 60% real
(1) Jason: Shadow Conjouration, Greater, 7th: As shadow conjuration, but up to 6th level and 60% real
(1) Jason: Jason calls up four faked Celestial Polar Bears.
(1) Jason: So... who loads them up? And we do need to hurry; they won't last long.
(11) Kibin: Uh, can't the bears load them up?
(1) Jason: With what hands?
** (11) Kibin looks over to Elorin again... **
(1) Jason: Well.. maybe....
(8) Elorin: We'll probably have to do it one bar at a time with all of us working. Unless Jason can just float them up.
(1) Jason: Ghost Telekenesis: A ghost can use telekinesis as a standard action (caster level 12th or equal to the ghosts HD, whichever is higher). When a ghost uses this power, it must wait 1d4 rounds before using it again; 10 + 1/2 ghosts HD + ghosts Cha modifier = 28
(1) Jason: Jason finds he can just barely lift one bar at a time, and loads up the polar bears.
(1) Jason: Okay. Let's get moving, then.
(1) Jason: Oh... and does anyone want to bother with a Will Disbelief?
** (11) Kibin walks off towards the Twin whatevers then. **
(11) Kibin: (Not really.)
(11) Kibin: (Right now we want to believe in the bears.)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eldon is only slightly curious about the bears.)
(11) Kibin: (Above the portal to the twin paradises of bytopia...)
(1) Jason: They're at a heavy load, so move 30; each room was about forty feet in diameter; call it two rounds per room, four rounds to load, four rounds to cast; how many rooms to traverse?
** (11) Kibin takes out his portable hole when he's there, places it on the floor near the portal, and looks through. **
(11) Kibin: (Uh...)
(11) Kibin: (Five, I think.)
(1) GM: So 18 rounds needed, sorry.
(1) GM: The bears vanish one room from the target zone.
(1) GM: One at a time, in sequence, dropping the bars to the floor.
(11) Kibin: (Placing us over the material plane's portal.)
(11) Kibin: (Ooo, I wonder.)
** (11) Kibin places the portable hole on the floor near the material plane's portal, and looks through it. **
(1) GM: And sees a room much identicle to the one he's in.
(1) GM: [1d100] -> [7] = (7)
(1) GM: Except it contains [1d3] -> [2] = (2)
(1) GM: Two of the metal beasts. Which look up at him curiously.
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (*Blink*Blink*...Alternate universe? Mirror universe? Time travel?)
(11) Kibin: (Not shooting? O.o)
(1) GM: Oh, forgot. Roll for initiative.
(11) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+7] -> [2,7] = (9)
(1) GM: [1d20+3] -> [7,3] = (10), [1d20+3] -> [7,3] = (10)
(1) GM: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [7,5] = (12)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20+2] -> [1,2] = (3)
(8) Elorin: (the order hasn't gotten out all the way yet, I take it?)
(11) Kibin: (Actually, it probally has, in three days...)
(8) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [9,6] = (15)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: (Or alternate universe, mirror universe or time travel.)
(8) Elorin: (I would expect just a different room in the same complex)
(1) GM: Elorin, Jason, Beasts, Kibin, Eldon.
(1) GM: Elorin?
(11) Kibin: (So who wants to heroically save the day and close the portable hole?)
** (8) Elorin picks up the portable hole **
(11) Kibin: (Heh, okay.)
(11) Kibin: (Back out of combat time?)
(1) GM: Yeah.
** (11) Kibin places down the portable hole carefully, unfolding it then folding it back up in a split second to see if the same thing is on the other side. **
(1) GM: [1d100] -> [74] = (74)
(8) Elorin: Would you mind not trying that again until we're sure the change to their shoot-on-sight orders has reached everywhere?
(1) GM: No, empty room.
(11) Kibin: Empty room that time. Hmmm.
** (11) Kibin folds the portable hole back up, then. **
(8) Elorin: (brb)
** (11) Kibin asks Jason, "Can you summon more bears?" **
(1) Jason: No, I'm out.
(11) Kibin: Ah. Hmmm.
(11) Kibin: Can't you just push the bars towards the portal with your telekinesis?
(1) Jason: One at a time, sure. Can't you lift one?
(11) Kibin: How?
(1) Jason: You've got hands in this form, no?
(11) Kibin: Yes... but I'm not that strong.
(11) Kibin: (*is assuming these are very heavy bars of platnium*)
(1) Jason: (four of them, 1500 pounds total -> 375 pounds each [1500/4] -> 375)
(1) Jason: So push or drag them. Seriously; why should I do all the work? Getting you your leverage for the negotiations, calling up the beasts, loading them......
** (11) Kibin says, "I can lift up about a hundred pounds off the ground... **
(11) Kibin: Or pushing could work too. Hmmm.
(12) Eldon Quickfoot: "I'll take one corner..."
** (11) Kibin starts pushing one of the bars in the right direction, then. Which... accomplishes exactly nothing. **
(1) Jason: "A character can lift as much as double his or her maximum load off the ground, but he or she can only stagger around with it. While overloaded in this way, the character loses any Dexterity bonus to AC and can move only 5 feet per round (as a full-round action)."
** (12) Eldon Quickfoot helps. **
(1) GM: "Bigger and Smaller Creatures: The figures on Table: Carrying Capacity are for Medium bipedal creatures. A larger bipedal creature can carry more weight depending on its size category, as follows: Large x2, Huge x4, Gargantuan x8, Colossal x16. A smaller creature can carry less weight depending on its size category, as follows: Small x3/4, Tiny x1/2, Diminutive x1/4, Fine x1/8."
(11) Kibin: (Yeah, but my max load right now is... what? 52 pounds.)
(1) GM: Strength 8 has it's highest heavy load at 80 lbs; 60, for a small critter.
(1) GM: Five times that.... is only 300. Hmm....
(11) Kibin: (I have a strength of 7. :P)
(8) Elorin: (ah, just finished checking the numbers. Huge Air Elementals can fly with them assuming, each bar is 325 pounds, and I can summon 1d3 of them with one 8th level spell)
(1) GM: 375, not 325.
(8) Elorin: (oh, right)
(8) Elorin: (still light enough)
(12) Eldon Quickfoot (exit): 16:44
(1) GM: Of course, Huge Air elementals can pick up lots of people, so....
(14) Eldon Quickfoot (enter): 16:44
(1) GM: Okay, my diagnostics say my connection is working.....
(8) Elorin: (light load for them is 400 pounds)
(1) GM: Of course, Huge Air elementals can pick up lots of people, so....
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (38 pounds.)
(1) GM: Strength 18, then?
(8) Elorin: (and huge size, yes)
(11) Kibin: (1,200 max load.)
(8) Elorin: (can only fly with light load, though)
(11) Kibin: (400 pound light load then.)
** (8) Elorin thinks for a bit **
(8) Elorin: Kibin, go ahead through the portal and open the hole on the ground
(1) GM: "Whirlwind (Su): The elemental can transform itself into a whirlwind once every 10 minutes and remain in that form for up to 1 round for every 2 HD it has. In this form, the elemental can move through the air or along a surface at its fly speed."
(8) Elorin: I'll get the bars through
(1) GM: "Creatures one or more size categories smaller than the elemental might take damage when caught in the whirlwind (see the table below for details) and may be lifted into the air. An affected creature must succeed on a Reflex save when it comes into contact with the whirlwind or take the indicated damage. It must also succeed on a second Reflex save or be picked up bodily and held suspended in the powerful winds, automatically taking the indicated damage each round. A creature that can fly is allowed a Reflex save each round to escape the whirlwind. The creature still takes damage but can leave if the save is successful. The DC for saves against the whirlwind’s effects varies with the elemental’s size (see the table). The save DC is Strength based."
(11) Kibin: Through this portal? This leads to the material plane.
(1) GM: A bar of platinum... would probably be way too dense to go through....
(1) Jason: You could probably just Righteous Might up and carry them yourself, really.
(8) Elorin: To the portal we were planning originally
** (11) Kibin walks through the doorway to the Twin Paradises place, then. **
** (11) Kibin does the same thing he did over at the material plane, opening the portable hole for just a second then closing it again, seeing what's on the other side. **
(11) Kibin: (Over at the twin paradises place.)
(1) Jason: [1d100] -> [25] = (25), [1d3] -> [2] = (2)
(8) Elorin: Hmm, true.
whispering to Kibin, Random, empty room in the Matrix.
** (11) Kibin closes the portal, then looks through the portal. **
(11) Kibin: (The portable hole is closed, then I look through the portal. x.x)
(1) Jason: Meanwhile....
(8) Elorin: I still wouldn't be strong enough to fly with them, though.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (...Back at the ranch...)
(1) Jason: Jason starts slowly lifting them and carrying them into the next room... one at a time, and at a rate of 20 feet per six seconds.....
(1) Jason: [1d4] -> [4] = (4)
(8) Elorin: (ah, what the heck, I feel like showing off)
(8) Elorin: Elorin casts Summon Monster VIII ( level 8, "Calls extraplanar creature to fight for you." )
(8) Elorin: %s Tried to cast %s but has used all of them for today,Please rest so I can cast more. % ( charNameL, name )
(8) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 8 Spell ( level 8, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(8) Elorin: [1d3] -> [3] = (3)
(11) Kibin: (Yayz!)
** (8) Elorin instructs the three huge air elementals to each pick up a bar and follow me through the portal **
(1) Jason: Still under Tongues, so it works.
(1) GM: And, with much magic thrown about, you find yourselves with four very large bars of platinum in a tropical paradise.
** (8) Elorin then tells them to put them into Kibin's portable hole. Once that's done, I dismiss them. **
(11) Kibin: (Assuming someone carries me down to safe land underneath the portal.
(1) GM: Yeah. Jason takes care of it.
(1) Jason: You know, you really ought to get over that fear of flying you seem to have.
(11) Kibin: Fear of flying?
(1) Jason: Well, you are perfectly capable of flying under your own power, due to Kaylin's spell, yet you almost always wait around to be carried.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Supper.)
(11) Kibin: Probally because I stay in this form to be a lot more dexterious, and so that those bullets don't hit me as often?
(1) Jason: Come on, how many of them have been thrown your way in the last... what was it... two months?
(11) Kibin: As well as our druid not being with us, and thus unable to use that magical fang thingie on me.
(1) Jason: So you need to get a potion from the store and a scroll for Kaylin to use, to make it stick. That's a problem how?
(11) Kibin: What's the scroll for?
(1) Jason: To make it Permanent. of course, so you never have to buy the potion for it again.
(11) Kibin: Oh
(11) Kibin: I'll think about it.
(11) Kibin: And see how expensive it would be...
(11) Kibin: Maybe we should see about converting our platnium bars to coins?
(11) Kibin: Should be about three quarters of a million gold pieces worth of platnium in those...
(1) Jason: Or just make some big purchases. Either way.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Back for now.)
(11) Kibin: Yes, but those would be some large purchases.
(1) Jason: So..... how much is that, split five ways?
(1) Jason: [750,000/5] -> (750, 0)
(1) Jason: [750000/5] -> 150000
** (11) Kibin calculates that in his head... **
** (11) Kibin says, "About a hundred and fifty thousand gold pieces each?" **
(1) Jason: Ah. Hmm..... what's good.....
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Huh...)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: [1,2d20] -> (1, [19, 12])
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: [1d20,1d20*2] -> ([2], 16)
(11) Kibin: Off to the city then? They might be able to exchange the bars...
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Undocumented feature - I wonder how it works...)
(1) Jason: [1,1,2d20+3d6] -> (1, 1, [6, 19, 5, 4, 3])
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: "We should probably inform people of the gnomes' possible plans for peace."
(11) Kibin: Yes, but people here don't know about it.
(1) Jason: If you wanted, we could look up the code.... it is, fundamentally, a script you're looking at.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Doen't seem to add.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Could do)
(1) GM: True. Given time, though, I could tell you _exactly_ how it works.
(11) Kibin: And who to contact?
** (11) Kibin folds the portable hole back up when the bars are safely inside. **
** (11) Kibin hmmms, opens the portable hole out, goes back to dragon form, then tosses the clothes in there and folds the hole back up. **
(11) Kibin: There, now I can fly on my own power.
(11) Kibin: Off to the town?
(1) Jason: Sounds like a plan.
** (11) Kibin walks off towards the town then. **
(1) Jason: At the town, the place is busy and orginized.
(1) GM: Shops everywhere, many selling fruit, vegatables, baked goods, wood products, and of course, Ye Younge Shoppe Of Magjicke
(1) GM: The people are friendly and outgoing. Several greet you cheerfully.
** (11) Kibin goes find a place to exchange the platnium bars for coins, then. **
** (14) Eldon Quickfoot greets them politly back. **
(1) GM: Search check?
(11) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [20,23] = (43)
(11) Kibin: (Ha! Natural 20!)
(11) Kibin: (*probally has found everything in the city, now..*)
(1) GM: You find a coiner that is very impressed by the sheer amount of platinum you show him.
(1) GM: Diplomacy check?
(11) Kibin: Diplomacy Skill Check: [1d20+15] -> [13,15] = (28)
(11) Kibin: (I'm probally the one actually handling the money at the moment...)
(1) GM: And, after a little talk, is willing to coin them, for free, for the simple cost of letting you put his coining stamp on each and every one.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Uh-huh...)
(8) Elorin: (75000 platinum pieces bearing his mark in circulation. That should have a positive effect on his reputation :P)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Tell me, ever read the 'Myth' series?)
(11) Kibin: (Hehe. So?)
** (11) Kibin accepts the offer. **
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (That's better than 10%)
(11) Kibin: (Wooooo.... nearly a ton of platnium pieces...)
(1) GM: And, after a couple of days of work on his part, you have 75000 platinum coins to divvy up.
(11) Kibin: [75000/5
(11) Kibin: [75000/5] -> 15000
(8) Elorin: (Myth... Is that the series with the Great Skeeve?)
** (11) Kibin counts out 15,000 platnium pieces for everyone. **
(8) Elorin: (where 'Myth' is often substituted for 'Miss' in the titles?)
(1) GM: Ah, yes. You didn't meet Ahz.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yep.)
** (11) Kibin then goes to see how much Jason's solution to the druid not being around would be for enchanting natural weapons, preferably just as effective as what the druid did. **
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (And the word 'possibility' brings us to The Death Gate Cycle)
(1) GM: (or are you refferring to the "if you think you've gotten the better of a deevil, first count your fingers, then your toes, then your relatives.....)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yep, pretty much. Also, when a street vendor offered free merchandise - If he could use Skeeves' name)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (And Skeeve accepted.)
(11) Kibin: (Comeon, he's just hoping to get repuation for himself...)
(8) Elorin: (and Ahz screamed at him for not charging for it)
(11) Kibin: (I think. :P)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (He overcharged, basically.)
(11) Kibin: (Back IC! :P)
(11) Kibin: (For shopping! YAYZ!)
(8) Elorin: (hmm, what to spend 150000 gp on...)
(11) Kibin: (*has 170,000 gold pieces now.*)\

(14) Eldon Quickfoot: Bracers of Armor +7, 49,000gp
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: Headband of Intellect +6, 36,000gp
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: Cloak of Resistance +5, 25,000gp
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: Goggles of NightVision, 39,000gp (Darkvision, See Invisibility)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: Boots of Striding and Springing, 5,500gp.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: Ring of deflection +4 - Unsure
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: 10,386gp, 5sp
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: Immovable Rod, 5,000gp.
(11) Kibin: (Wrong button there?)
(11) Kibin: (Anyway, about the potion/scroll idea...)
Server Administrator-> Ookay.... my window seems alitte jamed up; I'm guessing it's a mess of too many messages, so I'm going to go get a drink of water and hope it clears out.
(11) Kibin: (Great job, Eldon. :P)
Server Administrator-> And hope everyone got that.
(11) Kibin: (Heard you loud and clear...)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Whoop, sorry. I thought I saved it.)(
(11) Kibin: (Yes, you saved it, in the log.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Oops._
(1) GM: Yeah. Oops. Done it myself on occasion. Nice having an extra window to send messages when this one freezes, even if it is kinda awkward.
(11) Kibin: (Anyway, about the potion thingie.)
(1) GM: And, after a little research, you find it's a piddly 13,125 per natural weapon to get it to +5, although the person who expalined it mentioned that a strong spellcaster can kill them for good, making them need to be re-done.
** (11) Kibin goes ahead and pays the money, since spellcasters so far haven't seemed to be using any type of magic dispels... **
(1) GM: So fixing it for your full Claw/Claw/Bite routine costs [13125*3] -> 39375
(1) GM: And Kaylin reads the spells off the scrolls for you.
** (11) Kibin pays with those newly minted platnium pieces, giving the coiner a bit of publicity. **
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: "How much would it cost to do the same for my sword and my bow?"
(8) Elorin: (ooh, just realized this is more than enough for a +5 tome :D)
(1) GM: Shoppekeeper: Well, that can't be done in the same fasion; has to be done the old fasioned way, which is much more expensive, but also much more durable. What's your bow and sword at?
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Er...We going to do an 'OOTS'?)
(11) Kibin: (A what?)
(11) Kibin: (You mean Jack Simth doing a mages disjunction on us, thus dropping our total wealth level to 0?)
(8) Elorin: (Didn't we have labels for the power levels from one shopkeeper? Something like apprentice, adept, master, wizard, and archmage for +1 through +5)
** (11) Kibin then thinks of what to buy with 130,000 gold pieces. **
(1) GM: (Bane's and other specials list seperately, enhancement: Apprentice +1, adept +2, master +3, wizard +4, Archmage+5)
(1) GM: Jason gets a book, and takes a few days to read it.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (No, when we actually use game terms in-game.)
** (11) Kibin doesn't have enough money for one of those nifty archmage strength books... **
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Er, forget that. I forgot that Eldon wasn't going to accept pay from the gnomes.)
(8) Elorin: Hmm, we had a book that magically increased the reader's strength a while back. Is there something similar for those seeking wisdom?
(1) GM: Shoopekeeper: Yes, although they get very expensive very quickly.
(8) Elorin: (actually, we still have a +1 Manual of Strength floating around somewhere that we're theoretically planning to get upgraded :P)
(8) Elorin: How expensive?
(1) GM: Shoppekeeper: Welll,the apprentice version runs at 27,500 gold crowns; the archmage, 137,500 crowns.
** (11) Kibin upgrades his cloak of resistance to a +6 one, too... **
(11) Kibin: (Or whatever the +6 one is called.)
(8) Elorin: (resistance can't go above +5 pre-epic)
(1) GM: Cloak of Resistance caps out at +5 pre-epic......
(11) Kibin: (Sorry, +5.)
(11) Kibin: (Typo.)
(1) GM: (very expensive typo....)
(11) Kibin: (Heh. :P)
(8) Elorin: Do you happen to have an archmage quality book in stock?
(11) Kibin: (A +6 cloak of resistance would only be 36,000, not bad at all.(
(1) GM: Shoppekeeper: Of course. Why wouldn't we? Sold one to an odd ghost who wanted to be a little more Charismatic just a little bit ago.
(8) Elorin: (no, the epic multiplier kicks in- 360,000)
(1) GM: (Epic x10 multiplier......)
(11) Kibin: (Oh. Dang...)
(8) Elorin: I'll take it.
** (11) Kibin then thinks of what to do with the rest of his money. **
** (8) Elorin goes and starts piling platinum pieces on the counter from Kibin's portable hole **
(8) Elorin: (ok, once I get this read, the Monk's Belt will be strictly superior to actually wearing armor and having a shield O_O)
(11) Kibin: (I thought you stored your platnium pieces in someone else's extradimensional storage? Like Kaylins?)
(8) Elorin: (I'm not sure what the weight limit is on her bag of holding)
(11) Kibin: (Pretty large, I think>)
(8) Elorin: (and she'd probably have her own share in it too)
(11) Kibin: (Meh, fine.)
(8) Elorin: (Ah, there it is, listed in the thread as Type I)
** (11) Kibin browses the magic store to see interesting things to buy. **
(8) Elorin: (250 pound limit)
(8) Elorin: (just her own share is 300 pounds of platinum)
(1) GM: You see many defensive items; armor, cloaks, a few oddly plain stones, bracers, and many other things.
** (11) Kibin thinks he finnally has all the magic items he needs at the moment. Hmmmm. **
** (11) Kibin walks back to the group, saying, "I think I'm done here..." **
(1) GM: Jason, after spending a few days reading, also walks up. Yes, very good shopping trip.
(1) GM: The air seems slightly more solid around him.
(11) Kibin: (Reading in the portal?)
(1) Jason: (Yep)
(8) Elorin: (there's a crafting portal here?
(11) Kibin: If everyone is done shopping, maybe we should go tell Kaylin's teacher the gnomes aren't bothering anyone anymore.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: "Wouldn't go that far yet,"
(1) Jason: Seems after we left last time, the guy researched the crafting portals... this one isnt quite as fast, but it works.
(8) Elorin: How fast is it?
(11) Kibin: Then what to do now...
(1) Jason: About a minute a day, I think; hard to tell, really.
(8) Elorin: Plenty fast enough.
** (11) Kibin waits for the other people to decide on a course of action. **
(11) Kibin: (hello?)
(11) Kibin: (Hello...)
(1) Jason: Hello. Just updating a few stats....
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hello)
(8) Elorin: (hmm, should we consider the items from the Planetar ours for keeps now?)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: "We should probably find someone official to inform of events."
(8) Elorin: (I'm going to do some crafting, but I'm not sure whether to sell those to fund a little more of it)
(11) Kibin: Who?
** (8) Elorin sells his Mithril Chain Shirt (1100), Animated +1 Heavy Steel Shield (8170), and Ring of Protection +2 (8000) for [550+4085+4000] -> 8635 **
(8) Elorin: [35595.89+8635] -> 44230.89
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: "The archmage would probably know."
(8) Elorin: [44230.89-(75000/2)] -> 6730.89
(1) GM: Dinner; need to go; back in probably 30-60 minutes.
(8) Elorin: [75000/25] -> 3000
(8) Elorin: (how much is he charging for this crafting portal?)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Bye for now.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Chocolate milk...)
(11) Kibin: (Okay then. Halflife 2 time! YAYZ!
(11) Kibin: (The demo at least. :(
(8) Elorin: (adding Protection +5 to my Freedom of Movement ring)
(8) Elorin: (and reading the book, of course)
(8) Elorin: (whee, 34 touch AC :D)
(8) Elorin: (oops, miscalculated price of shield, I've got 500 more gold)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Does it bother anyone else when someone writes a story in which vampires are killed by silver?)
(8) Elorin: (not really)
(8) Elorin: (if you go by D&D stats, you need silver to bypass their DR)
(8) Elorin: :P
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Fiction Association)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Which is silly. Silver is for werewolves.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (I'm part perfectionist, so wierd things like that bother me.)
(8) Elorin: (Hmm, wikipedia says "In early Slavic folklore, a vampire drank blood, was afraid of (but could not be killed by) silver...")
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eh. It's a quirk.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (There's different varieties of all sorts of things in mythology.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (But sometimes, it just seems like the author is being lazy.)
(16) Kibin (enter): 18:22
(16) Kibin: (The... headcrabs...)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Worse?)
(11) Kibin (exit): 18:23
(16) Kibin: (Hmmm?)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (The headcrabs)
(17) Kibin (enter): 18:26
(17) Kibin: (O.o)
(17) Kibin: (Gah.)
(17) Kibin: (be right back.
(16) Kibin (exit): 18:27
(17) Kibin (exit): 18:30
(18) Kibin (enter): 18:30
(18) Kibin: (Okay, games are scary when they're realistic.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Er, well, yeah.)
(1) GM: Back.
(18) Kibin: (Scary enough to warrant the two finger salute.)
(1) GM: So, Kibin and Eldon seem to be online.
(8) Elorin: (so am I)
(1) GM: And Elorin.
(18) Kibin: (Alt-F4. Your plan for survival when you're being attacked by dozens of headcrabs.)
(8) Elorin: (how much is he charging for this crafting portal?)
(1) GM: Strangely, the standard 100 gp.
(8) Elorin: (I have reached the point where armor is worthless :P)
(18) Kibin: (Cool. I reached that point when armor became too espensive for me to keep up with.)
(8) Elorin: (Monk's Belt gives +12, more than the chain shirt and shield combined, even taking the loss of Magic Vestment on the shield into account)
(1) GM: Oh, I don't know.... which do you get more AC from: +5 Mithral Fullplate and +5 Large Animated shield, or bracers of armor +8 and a monk's belt?
(18) Kibin: (You forgot his insanely high wisdom.)
(8) Elorin: (+5 Mithril Full Plate: +16 total AC including dex bonus. Shield adds 7 for +23)
(8) Elorin: (+6 dex +8 bracers +12 belt totals +26)
(8) Elorin: (even sticking with Magic Vestment at +5, it's still a tie and more of it applies to touch AC)
(18) Kibin: (Have to go in 55 minutes by the way.)
(1) GM: So yes, armor's useless. Hmm. Curious.
(8) Elorin: (this always happens eventually as characters progress into epic)
(1) GM: Still, curious. Wouldn't happen so much without the Monk's Belt, though.
(8) Elorin: (I don't think a single member of the entire ECL 74 playtesting party wears even a scrap of anything actually considered armor)
(1) GM: Anyway..... so who's doing what?
(18) Kibin: (For fighters, full plate would still be cost effective.)
(1) GM: (also Clerics)
** (18) Kibin is being bored, waiting for everyone to decide what to do now. **
(8) Elorin: (not with epic buffs giving +20 to all ability scores)
(1) GM: (Well, not Clerics, with the Belt....)
(18) Kibin: (Basically any class that doesn't have class features that require light armor, and no wisdom.)
(1) GM: Well... that much +Dex outstrips all armor, besides Bracers of Armor.
(8) Elorin: (anyway, this seems a good stopping point, I'm starting to get tired, and Kibin doesn't have a whole lot of time left)
(18) Kibin: (Well, dexterity too.)
(18) Kibin: (NOooooooooo! 50 minutes!)
(18) Kibin: (And I already played with halflife 2 for the day. :(
(18) Kibin: (And we'd have to stop for 2 weeks!)
(18) Kibin: (*hmmms, long thing from Jack*)
(1) GM: Elorin - Fair enough, then. Oh, - and as an excersicze; how do you deal with a Fire Giant with the Ikea Terrask Template, then loaded down with a spellcasting twink up to the rest of the CR; three epic spells; Epic Spell One makes the caster immune to Epic Spell 1 and 2, Antimagic Field, Disjucntion, Dispel Magic, Greater Dispel Magic, and any spell below 12th level (personal version, simple excersize on Ward, permanent). Epic Spell 2 makes a very wide ward that stops every spell below 12th level in a big area, temporarily. Also, of course, it's got the standard non-epic preparations - Chain Contingency, Mind Blank, and the like.
(18) Kibin: (Deus ex machina?)
(18) Kibin: (Ooo, I know! Wish up a massive iridium ball above his head!)
(1) GM: (Slight problem..... Wish is 9th, and is excluded. Also, effectively immune to damage)
(18) Kibin: (Empowered maximized vengeful gaze of god?)
(8) Elorin: (hmm, that's gonna take some thinking)
(1) GM: Epic spells are treated as 10th level spells for anything where it matters - excluded. He's immune.
(18) Kibin: (However, the empowered and mazimizing brings it above 10th level.)
(1) GM: (Still a 10th level spell.... and Epic spells require Epic slots)
(18) Kibin: (No, it's a 15th level spell.)
(18) Kibin: (Since it's both empowered and maximized.)
(8) Elorin: (Epic dispel with adjustment to make it considered a few levels higher (+2 per spell level) so it's not excluded should take care of the epic spells and magic protections)
(8) Elorin: (I'll have to look at the Ikea Tarrasque template again to figure out what's needed for that)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Asteroid.)
(1) GM: (Actually, that wouldn't work..... this guy gets to ignore his AC; only his heads (he has at least 2) can be killed, and they grow back unless sealed by Fire or Acid damage.... and he's immune to both Fire and Acid damage. Also a host of other things, with the Construct type.)
(18) Kibin: (Dispel then Nailed to the Sky. That would work.)
(1) GM: Allows SR. Golem-esq Magic Immunity.
(18) Kibin: (Hmmmmm.)
(1) GM: And do bear in mind, he can re-cast.
(8) Elorin: (Hmm, base CR 10, +7 from the template, +21 minimum for epic spellcasting for minimum CR 38)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Asteroid.)
(8) Elorin: (That means the combinations I'm about to list are not all that unreasonable)
(8) Elorin: (epic dispel mentioned above)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (I don't care about immunities; there's no way he could survive four miles of rock on his head.)
(1) GM: Mostly, just something to remember for testing your plans against.
(8) Elorin: (contingent epic dispel set to counterspell enemy epic spells cast within range and with multiple charges (multiply DC by number of times it can trigger before running out))
(18) Kibin: (Dispelling the fields, putting yourself into an alternate timestream for an hour, then erect a few dozen walls of fource around him.)
(8) Elorin: (twinned, automatic quickened, repeat, empowered, maximized disintigrates until it dies)
(1) GM: He's got multiple heads. And they grow back.
(18) Kibin: (Or time duplicates + vengeful gaze of gods.)
(8) Elorin: (oh wait, Earthquake can be quickened, use that instead)
(18) Kibin: (You can make a time duplicate, your future self acts normally, but your present self can use vengeful gaze of god... yet your future self remains!)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (I'm telling you, use an asteroid! Cause once you get epic, you might as well do something rediculous.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Someone actually did that in a fantasy book I read.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Non-serious.)
(18) Kibin: (Create a new epic spell, "Summon Pun Pun")
(1) GM: Body doesn't take damage. Damage is diverted to the heads. Heads grow back unless sealed.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (But still, epic.)
(1) GM: Also done in sci-fi a lot.
(1) GM: Commonly called "kinetic weapons"
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, but not generally in fantasy.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Plus, they were all rank amatures.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Which is why they tried it.)
(8) Elorin: (the heads can be sealed by fire damage with the use of the Searing Spell metamagic feat from Sandstorm, included in the preview here)
(18) Kibin: (Also, grant ability is a SUPERNATURAL effect, right? Then the transform seed can give a person it for only a DC of 31.)
(18) Kibin: Then with a viper familiar or something like that, START ZE INFINITE CHAIN!)
(1) GM: True. Course, that takes a feat. Anyone invested in it?
(18) Kibin: (And all it requires is researching one epic spell.)
(8) Elorin: (Energy Substitution (Fire) on Acid Arrow gets around the SR problem)
(8) Elorin: (Psychic Reformation)
(18) Kibin: (And why do you need a feat? O.o)
(1) GM: Via Limited Wish. Of course.
(8) Elorin: (If no one did before, now someone has)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Let's not go to epic. It is a silly place.)
(1) GM: Course, that also means ending the campaign somewhere between now and 21st.....
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (...'And then our heroes retired and rode off into the sunset'...)
(1) GM: Oh, I'm curious; what's happening with the 150,000 gp worth of Platinum that Kibin handed Eldon?
(18) Kibin: (Nah, epic actually seems cool.)
(18) Kibin: (As long as you use it carefully, though.)
(18) Kibin: (Epic levels require a lot of DM supervision to make sure that players don't do anything stupid.)
(1) GM: Biggest issue with it being Epic spells. Maybe just drop them in favor of researched spells at 10th+.
(18) Kibin: (And some of these epic prestige classes seem cool.)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Epic requires to much thought for when I'm trying to relax.)
(8) Elorin: (epic play requires a lot of houseruling and deliberately not exploiting things, I think)
(18) Kibin: (With epic spells, the DM still needs to approve the spell I think.)
(8) Elorin: (Epic spells in particular can easily get stupidly ridiculous by RAW)
(18) Kibin: (The epic rules only get crazy if you design it in that specific way to get crazy.)
(18) Kibin: (If you level like most people, not having a specific plan to get uberpowerful, then everything is fine.)
(18) Kibin: (I don't see anything crazy that can be done in the lower epic levels, anyway.)
(8) Elorin: (Easy way to get godlike power by RAW at level 21: Leadership; recruit all primary spellcasters; design a ritual long duration charisma booster mitigated down to 0 DC with additional spell slots contributed by followers; recruit more followers with your new improved leadership score; repeat as many times as desired, increasing charisma even more each time; eventually buff other ability scores as well
(1) GM: Unless you go into epic spellcasting. Permanent spellcasting summons are a basic possiblitiy; add ritual magic in, and you've soon got the possibility of having summons hand you 9th level spell slots for no further cost, to the point where you get these summons on DC 0 epic spells .... and then, you use these summons to power rediculous DC spells via Ritual Magic.
(1) GM: One feat, and a bit of time; not two, will do it.
(8) Elorin: (I once saw someone post a build like that with only three epic spells and all ability scores above 100000)
(18) Kibin: (Simple then... require DM approval of all epic spells just like researched spells...)
(1) GM: Yeah. But it gets kinda hard to say why it shouldn't work.... without going tinto metagaming terms of things like "I'm sorry; I can't think of how to counter it."
(18) Kibin: (Since you cannot simply buy epic spells. You must research them yourself, it seems.)
(1) GM: Everything Epic Spells cost is tied into the final spellcraft DC; if you have a spellcraft DC of 0, it costs: No XP, No GP, No Time.
(1) GM: By raw.
(18) Kibin: (For the permanent spellcasting summons, simply state that the fabric of magic does not allow summons to last that long.)
(18) Kibin: (As the link between the summon and the place where he/she was summoned gets tighter, and tighter, until eventually it has to rubber band back.)
(8) Elorin: (But that would be entirely a house rule. All RAW has to say is that permanent duration costs x5 DC)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: ('How am I supposed to know? It's magic')
(18) Kibin: ("Many times developing a completely new epic spell requires some guesswork and rule stretching. As with making and pricing magic items, a sort of balancing act is required. Often the description of a seed will need to be stretched for a particular spell. If necessary, assess an ad hoc Spellcraft DC adjustment for any effect that cannot be extrapolated from the seeds and factors presented herethe example spells use ad hoc factors frequently. In all cases, the GM determines the actual Spellcraft DC of the new spell")
(18) Kibin: (There we go. : )
(18) Kibin: (So it's NOT a house rule.)
(8) Elorin: (yes, but absolutely no stretching is necessary to make a permanent summon spell)
(18) Kibin: ("As with making and pricing magic items, a sort of balancing act is required." As far as I know, this is why there's no rings of true strike.)
(18) Kibin: (Also...)
(18) Kibin: ("This is the final step, and its critically important. The epic spell development work and reasoning must be shown to the GM and receive his or her approval. If the GM doesnt approve, then the epic spell cannot be developed. However, the GM should explain why the epic spell wasnt approved and possibly offer suggestions on how to create an epic spell that will be acceptable.")
(1) GM: You did read the last sentece of that, right? And something I said earlier....
(8) Elorin: (Right, but that doesn't give the DM anything to point to in the rules besides "I don't like it" or rough equivalents)
(1) GM: Yeah. But it gets kinda hard to say why it shouldn't work.... without going tinto metagaming terms of things like "I'm sorry; I can't think of how to counter it."
(18) Kibin: (Because the DM doesn't have to make it reasonable with ingame stuff.)
(18) Kibin: (He just has to say, "This will unbalance the game, no." and that's all...)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yes, but it makes the game progress more smoothly if there's a reason.)
(18) Kibin: (Why? The process could be done OOCly before it ever occurs ICly.)
(18) Kibin: (On the forums, perhaps.)
(8) Elorin: (The problem isn't that the DM can't say that - he can. The problem is that it's a purely subjective judgement with no solid rules and guidelines to judge it by that actually do a good job of preventing abuse)
(1) GM: Because you'll get players that can't understand why a Ring of True Strike should cost more than 400,000 gp, when a Ring of True Strike, in the hands of soeone with Power Attack, it's more powerful than a _10 sword.
(18) Kibin: (The first rule, the DM is always right. :P)
(8) Elorin: (the real reason the Ring of True Strike doesn't work IMO is that the spell discharges)
(1) GM: Well, that too; but an Insight Bonus, priced at Bonus*Bonus*1,000 gp, would be 400,000 at +20 (more, running the doubleing scheme common with non-enhancement bonuses).
(1) GM: A +20 Insight bonus, in the hands of someone with Power Attack, becomes +10 damage and +10 to hit, trivially. (+13 to hit and +14 damage, with a two-handed power attack)
(18) Kibin: (A +10 item would be only 10,000, which is very cost efficient.)
(8) Elorin: (A +10 sword is 2000000)
(1) GM: A +10 sword, RAW, costs 2,000,000; a +13, 3,380,000
(1) GM: A +20 insight bonus, in the hands of someone with Power Attack, is of equivalent power for most purposes. If it merely costs 400,000 gp, why get a +10 sword?
(1) GM: +4 Bane swords get past Epic DR, for the appropriet target, and cost 50,000 gp each.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Nobody seems to like my thread.)
(1) GM: Ah, too much thought when trying to relax? Good point.
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (Why, then, is True Strike only a level 1 spell?)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (No, my thread on shrapnel.)
(8) Elorin: (because it takes an extremely valuable action to use and discharges)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot: (There is that.)
(1) GM: 1: Personal; 2: Discharges. 3: Combat only. 4: One round duration.
(8) Elorin: (if you want to get rid of the action cost, it's 5th level and requires a feat)
(18) Kibin: (How about you get a +10 insight magical item? Doesn't improve damage, but very handy.
(1) GM: Quickened, it's a 5th level spell slot. Great for the Wizard who really needs to get that particular shot in (and there's always still the "roll a 1" possibility) but it's not so great for Fighter builds.
(18) Kibin: (100,000 is a little cheap, but oh well.)
(18) Kibin: (I mean expensive.)
(8) Elorin: (I would rule any bonus to attack rolls has the same non-epic cap as weapon enhancement)
(8) Elorin: (and the same x10 multiplier for epic)
(18) Kibin: (Okay then. Can I have a +5 insight item for only 25,000? : )
(8) Elorin: (and non-enhancement bonuses in general get a x2 cost multiplier)
(8) Elorin: (having it apply only to attack and not damage would cut that back in half)
(18) Kibin: (Okay then. 25,000.)
(8) Elorin: (50,000)
(8) Elorin: (weapon enhancement multiplier is 2000)
(18) Kibin: (But it's reduced by half for only attack and not damage.)
(8) Elorin: (and x2 for being a different type of bonus)
(14) Eldon Quickfoot (exit): 19:30
(8) Elorin: (they cancel out)
(1) GM: Power attacker again; +10 insight becomes +5 damage and +5 attack in the hands of a one-handed weapon user; equivalent to a +5 weapon for a one handed user; a two-hander, that's +6 attack and +8 damage, or +7 attack and +6 damage. Basically, a +6.5 weapon.
(18) Kibin: (And a +5 item?)
(19) Eldon Quickfoot (enter): 19:31
(8) Elorin: (A +5 insight to attack item at 50k would be powerful but not exceptionally overpowered imo)
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Could a fighter take a feat to cast a spell once?)
(8) Elorin: (Allowing the player to keep stacking on as many such bonuses as he can think of types to make them, however, is definitely overpowered)
(1) GM: At +5 .... yeah, that's not so bad; until you get to near-epic, when stacking happens. Also, there's a reason for the Wealth by Level guidelines.
(1) GM: A +5 weapon, with +5 Insight and +5 Competence and +5 Holy bonus to attack rolls should be .... well, [50+50+50+50] -> 200 thousand GP.
(18) Kibin: (What about an gem of truestrike, usable once per day as a free action, costing about 10,000?)
(18) Kibin: (That you put into the hilt of your blade or something.)
(1) GM: Level Guidelines say that should be the entire wealth of a 15th level character. Have fun with no Cloak of Resistance or armor.
(8) Elorin: (now make that +5 weapon, with +1 Insight +1 Competence +1 Holy +1 Sacred +1 Exalted +1 Badass... :P)
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Er? Fighter? Feat? Spell?)
(8) Elorin: (RAW, I don't think there's anything preventing players from just coming up with new bonus types for no reason than to have something that stacks)
(18) Kibin: (Once per day, you can attack with your weapon with a +20 bonus.)
(1) GM: There exist feats to do that kind of thing in various suppliments; but they don't go above 1st level spells without class levels.
(8) Elorin: (There are a few feats that grant a small number of low level spells 1/day each, I think)
(18) Kibin: (And it's very flavorful to have a weapon that can strike true once a day.
(18) Kibin: (Anyway, have to go now.)
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Goodbye)
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Take all 17 fighters' feats in 'True Strike, one/day', take power attack route...)
(1) GM: As a unique item, it wouldn't be so bad (one big shot). As a... what do guidelines say? Price it as a quickend True Strike (5th) use activated, 1/day, that's [5*9*2000/5] -> 18000
(18) Kibin: (Heh, Sweet.)
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Most fights don't last anywhere near 17 rounds.)
(8) Elorin: (I count 6 feats in Complete Arcane that give a specific set of three spells (all 1st level or less) 1/day each)
(8) Elorin: (none of them include True Strike)
** (18) Kibin found the F4 macro key **
(18) Kibin: Ooo, shiney button...

(1) GM: Five of them, however, would kinda unbalance the game (fighter one-shots five big opponents each day.
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yeah, but making your own feats is clearly indicated.)
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Or implicated.)
(8) Elorin: (However, it would still take a standard action to use, which means no attacking for that round)
(1) GM: Which is the balance factor for the one-level dip into Sorceror or Wizard for True Strike.
(1) GM: A feat that grants true strike 1/day, as a standard action wouldn't be too bad. As a free action, it's a insta-kill attack on most BBEG's when combined with Power Attack and a two-handed weapon.
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Or taking it as a feat?)
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Standard action.)
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Hmm...I think I know what my next character will be...)
(8) Elorin: As a standard action, it is reasonably within what feats can grant
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Taking 1st-level spells as feats...)
(1) GM: As a standard, it gives the BBEG warning..... to either get away, raise a Miss chance, Dispel......
(8) Elorin: It is fixed at caster level 1, however, so Quicken Spell-like Ability can never be applied to it
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Actually, at higher levels it would no longer be usefull.)
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (You'd be giving up four attacks for one moderatly more usefull one.)
(8) Elorin: Which is exactly why I think it's reasonable
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Maybe spend a feat to increase it to two rounds? (Round to cast, round used.))
(1) GM: ... and becomes a tactical choice. If the BBEG Withdrawls around a corner (so you can't charge) and the spell is wasted.
(8) Elorin: The benefit is strictly situational rather than a no-brainer all the time
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Yes, but once you've got four attacks, the Weapon Focus chain is clearly more usefull.)
(19) Eldon Quickfoot: (Anyway, brother wants the computer. Bye for now.)
(8) Elorin: bye
(1) GM: Have fun.
(1) GM: "See" you in two weeks.
