Officially, the justification given for this European Union military operation is to establish peace in a region that has been wracked for weeks by fighting and civil war. However, even a cursory inspection reveals that such statements are secondary and that the main goal is the security of the economic status to a independent Romania, specifically the oil producing areas.*
