(3) Kaylin: How's your construction project coming along?
(2) GM: Well, we've got the four big rafters up in the air; crane operator told us they weighed in at 12,000 pounds each, which is odd, as the specs said 9,000 pounds each.
(2) GM: Quite impressive, actually, seeing chunks of wood that big 40 feet up.
(3) Kaylin: Wow, that's a bit of a mismatch. Is that going to pose a problem?
(2) GM: Not a clue.
(3) Kaylin: that must be pretty neat. Is this entirely a church-community project?
(2) GM: We hire a few people to do some of the more specialist stuff (such as operating the crane) and we've hired Laborers for Christ (a christian orginization, but the workers are all from out of state), but very nearly.
(3) Kaylin: Nice, that sounds like it'd be pretty enjoyable. Hope it all goes well :)
(2) GM: Well, the concrete hasn't shattered from anything dropping yet, and there've been no major injuries, so it's a success so far.

(1) Kibin: (Why is it you can get a higher AC by attacking rather than with total defense with combat expertise?)
(3) Kaylin: (The best defense is a good offense)
(3) Kaylin: (While they're staying alive they're not hurting you so much)
(2) GM: In one, you're going nowhere, watching carefully while you've got your sword/whatever out, actively intercepting blows as they come in, making sure to strike at arms, et cetera as they come your way. Total Defense, while handy, isn't linked to Combat Expertiese at all.
(2) GM: Let's see.... when we last left our heros, they were enjoying the ruins of the town, after the big red lizardy guy had fled.
(1) Kibin: ((Huh? O.o))
(2) GM: Okay, it was only partially banged up... but he did get several of he townsfolk.... who frustrated him no end by being utterly calm about it.... no screaming, no yelling, no gurgling deaths... just passively dying and being nice while doing so.
(1) Kibin: (How'd the big red lizardy guy flee?)
(2) GM: Greater Teleport.
(1) Kibin: (You mean while he was a stone statue?)
(2) GM: Different big red.
(1) Kibin: (Oh.)
(2) GM: Statue is down by the lake; this big red was one of the ones you let loose from the dungeon when killing the other.
(1) Kibin: (Where are we?)
(2) GM: In town - the one where the Cleric was stopping a war - near the church; there seem to be a few things that were set alight, carts knocked over, and the like, as well as a few bloody dead, and decapitated bodies lying around. Which, oddly, doens't seem to bother the townsfolk much.
(1) Kibin: (How'd you give me sneak attack damage on nearly all my attacks?)
(2) GM: They just go about their business, selling their wares, buying stuff, being cheerful.
(1) Kibin: (Oh, and you made a mistake. Up to 9d6 damage now.)
(2) GM: (You know, I don't recall. Perhaps there was a peasant on the other side with a scyth or something..... hmm.....)
** (1) Kibin goes cool down the things alight with his freezing breath. **
(1) Kibin: (Oh. Jason threatened.)
(2) GM: And, as there were just mundane fires, they go out without too much fuss.
(2) GM: (About as effective... okay.)
(3) Kaylin: These people are still docile? That cleric must have a strong hold over them...
(2) GM: Jason: Well, his pet is stoned out of his mind... but he's still alive.
(1) Kibin: What are we going to do with that pit fiend statue?
(3) Kaylin: The cleric will probably just revive it, won't he...
(3) Kaylin: I would suggest destroying the statue.
(1) Kibin: Chances are the cleric can ressurect the statue.,
(1) Kibin: I mean the pit fiend.
(2) GM: Jason: Technically, while a statue, he isn't dead.....
(1) Kibin: Yup.
(3) Kaylin: So are we agreed?
(1) Kibin: What happens if you destroy the statue? Would it be impossible to revive him?

whispering to Kaylin, If you were to shatter the statue into little itty bitty pebbles, the Pit Fiend wouldn't technically be hurt until it was un-stoned... at which point, it would be a pebbly, bloody, mess.

whispering to Kaylin, Unfortunately, Pit Fiends tend to recover from any injury very, very quickly.... and getting pebblified and unstoned wouldn't be particularly different.
(3) Kaylin: Hmm.
(3) Kaylin: Pit fiends are very tough...
(3) Kaylin: it would probably survive the statue being turned into flesh even after we broke it.
(1) Kibin: So give the gnomes a nice completely life-like statue.
(3) Kaylin: That might keep it safe...
(1) Kibin: Only one entrance, their suits are immune to magic...
(3) Kaylin: He tends to operate on his own, as well. We just have to convince the gnomes to take it

whispering to Kaylin, Well, someone could use Stone to Flesh on it....... and with the rest of him being a statue somewhere, it would be the largest living piece to regenerate from..... or you could use it as a novelty book end, or something....

(2) GM: "...A pit fiend is 12 feet tall ...." and a portable hole is only 10 feet deep.
(1) Kibin: (For the soulbind, I was mostly thinking who do we know that's an epic level or so caster and have lots of expensive gems.)
(2) GM: And it was in flight, so the wings are extended......
(2) GM: Well, the one that's still attached.....
** (1) Kibin plans a bit more... "Don't think it would be small enough to fit in a portable hole, however.... hmmm." **
(3) Kaylin: Size won't be an issue. It is stone, right?
(1) Kibin: Yeah... it's stone...
(3) Kaylin: We simply break it to the correct size.
(1) Kibin: Oh.
(1) Kibin: Hmmm. That would work.
(3) Kaylin: As long as we keep the pieces that should be sufficient.
(1) Kibin: Except I wouldn't quite want pieces of pit fiend in my portable hole to possibly regenerate.
(3) Kaylin: They won't regenerate as long as they are composed of rock.
(1) Kibin: And if someone were to take the portable hole from me and find a piece of rock or so?
(3) Kaylin: Then there would be trouble.
(1) Kibin: Could have a nice stone in the foundation of a building...
(1) Kibin: Would make it very inconvienent if the building was ever destroyed and he was stone to fleshed.

(2) GM: On the other side of the church, you spy one of the Big Red critters you let loose from the Cleric's dungeon. There is a mob of townsfolk running screaming from it, and it's lobbing them every which way with it's mind, charging in and ripping them to bloody shreds, and otherwise enjoying itself very throughoughly.
(1) Kibin: (Combat time starts when the whole group gets here, I suppose.)
(3) Kaylin: Not good...
(2) GM: Big Red 2: Ah, welcome! I figured out what was wrong with them! Care to join in the fun?
** (1) Kibin mutters, "Sure..." and dives into attack when the entire group is near. **

(6) Kaylin: yesterday we turned a pit fiend to stone that was causing a lot of havoc in the Material Plane, and we were hoping you might have someplace safe to store the stone without letting evildoers reanimate it.
(2) GM: Angel: Ah. I suppose we could dump them under the battlefields somewhere... should keep them safe enough.
** (1) Kibin opens the portable hole, gets the chunks of rock out and the figurines making sure not to break the figurines, and then searches to make sure he didn't leave any pieces of stone in there. **

(1) Kibin: (gah, increase by two, didn't update this or something.)
(2) GM: The angel looks at the little figurines of the Pit Fiend.
(2) GM: Angel: Very.. umm.... lifelike.
(1) Kibin: Got bored and decided how artistic I could be. Heh.
(2) GM: Angel: Maybe hand some out to the children to play with....

(6) Kaylin: Sounds like a fitting fate, considering the history of this fiend.
(2) GM: Angel: Yes... but who will win? The girls calling them dolls, or the boys calling them action figures?
(6) Kaylin: I fear that the answer lies concealed in the mists of time ahead.
** (1) Kibin goes ahead and sees what he has in there so far. He calls up to the angel, "Figurines, couldn't give them moving parts. Sorry." **
(2) GM: Angel: Ah, dolls, then.
** (1) Kibin hmmms. He asks, "Why don't people that can't fly get stuck in these?" **
(2) GM: The angel shrugs, grabs one side of the portable hole, and lifts it up, dumping Kibin out.
(2) GM: Angel: Most put them up on walls.
(2) GM: Angel: How else?
(2) GM: Okay.... router's working.....
** (6) Kaylin observes Kibin being dumped out of a bag **
** (1) Kibin falls out. Ow. **

(2) GM: Angel: No, any flat surface. Ground is just the most common. Occaionsally, someone stores a ladder in one.

(1) Kibin: So you could, say, fly up above someone, fold it out on the ceiling, and have all the stuff in it fall on their head?)
(2) GM: Theoretically. They'd get fairly easy reflex save, though.

(2) GM: Angel: You could. It would usually be simple enough to avoid, though.
(2) GM: Okay, so it was an extra parenthesis at the end, not a missing one at the beginning.
(1) Kibin: Not if you have a bunch of rocks in it or something. Kind of like a miniature cavein.
** (1) Kibin folds the portable hole up and puts it away, rubbing his head. **
(2) GM: Angel: Cave ins normally hit a very wide area, with little or no warning. They'd be watching you spread out the bag on the cieling, and it would only really affect the stuff directly underneath.

** (1) Kibin just sits there waiting to see if anyone else has anything else to do here. **

Mirroring would be filing in the lacking aspects based on what's there, with the same basic setup.)

(2) GM: It's not scorching even your delicate feet... but it is uncomfortably warm.

(6) Kaylin: Where to, then?
(1) Kibin: Probally should wait till they clean up the bodies.
(1) Kibin: Um. Someplace random away from here?

(6) Kaylin: Looks like she's doing well for herself.
(2) GM: She's currenly pounding away on a small, bluish shield.
(1) Kibin: Yup...
(2) GM: Blacksmith: Ah, you've returned. Business is booming, of course.
(1) Kibin: I see.
** (1) Kibin hmmms. No clue what to do here. **
(6) Kaylin: Well... what shall we do now? Perhaps try to find that Cleric after preparing scrying spells tomorrow?
(1) Kibin: Isn't his god pretty much dead now?
(6) Kaylin: Probably, but we shouldn't leave the job incomplete.
(1) Kibin: Fine, rest then find cleric.
(2) GM: Blacksmith: Meh, stay at my place; should be warded well enough for your tastes. And it's the least I can do for those who brought me so much business.
(1) Kibin: Just next time we're fighting him if there's one, don't toss a fireball at me!
(6) Kaylin: You're very kind.
(6) Kaylin: Oh Kibin, you're so worried about fire.
(1) Kibin: Yeah, since fire HURTS. Hurts me more at least...
(2) GM: The night goes uneventfully; you pass a misty area going into the smith's house, but it fades from view as soon as you're past the threshhold. She seems to be quite a good cook....
whispering to Kaylin, but you do note that she also casts Prestidigiation in there somewhere.....
(2) GM: ...and the food is quite filling.
(2) GM: The next morning.....
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: ...Eldon thanks her for the hospitality.
** (1) Kibin thanks her too, then starts eating the hero's feast. Mmm, more food. **
(2) GM: She seems to be quite the gracious host, and does enjoy Elorin's feast as well.
** (6) Kaylin makes general conversation over breakfast **
(6) Kaylin: Aside from business being so good, how're things around this town?
(2) GM: Smith: Much calmer. There's always a few notices up for various errands, of course, but the seas are mostly safe, the fishing is good, and those who really need their full size have it.
** (1) Kibin asks the smith, "How much are you charging for custom restoratios?" **
(1) Kibin: (Restorations*)
(2) GM: Smith: What I think they can afford if they try, mostly. Depends on how much they need it for what they do. Most of those who want a particular face have the money for it.
(2) GM: Smith: Of course, those who are particularly annoying about things find they simple don't have that much.....
(1) Kibin: Ah.
(6) Kaylin: Always convenient being the one who can provide the services, isn't it?
(2) GM: Smith: Yep. Monopolies are fun! When you're running them.
(6) Kaylin: Thank you for your hospitality. If you'll excuse me, everyone, I need to go prepare spells for today.

(2) GM: The city is mostly what it was; the furniture store is a blackened wreck, having been bunred to the ground due to too many people with bad memories wanting it gone.
(2) GM: There's a statue of the Smith in the town square.
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot goes looking for a short drink of something good. **
(2) GM: You find a tavern - with Ice! They have scotch, whisky, water, mead, milk, beer, wine, champaign, and several other drinks available.
** (1) Kibin hmmphs. No statue of him, who figured out how that sorcerer did it in the first place. **

** (1) Kibin goes see what the old furniture shop is now. **
(2) GM: The bartender, a fairly average looking middle aged man going slightly bald, quickly puts some ice in a glass, pours a liquid over it, and hands it to Eldon.
(2) GM: Bartender: Ah... I haven't seen you in here before; first one's on the house.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Thanks."
(2) GM: Bartender: I find it actually helps business in the long run. This place is still here after thirty years of business, after all.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Eldon will just be quietly drinking for a bit. Not going to get drunk, though.)
(1) Kibin: (Eldon can't get drunk.)
(2) GM: Not on a Heroe's Feast, anyway.

** (6) Kaylin wanders out of her spellbooking trance after about an hour **

** (1) Kibin meets back up with Kaylin after a while. **

(2) GM: And Kibin finds Eldon without too much trouble at all.
** (1) Kibin says to Eldon, "Kaylin finished with her spell trance meditation thingie, and we're ready to go." **
** (5) Eldon Quickfoot pays, thanks the bartender and leaves. **
(2) GM: Bartender: Any time, pleasure doing business with you.
(1) Kibin: (Yup. That's what us people not too knowledgeble with magic calls spell preperation. Spell trace meditation thingie.)
(2) GM: Actually, it's Sorcerers who stand for 15 minutes concentrating; a Wizard is constantly paging through a spellbook, and very active. Kaylin's got, what, about 700 pages to go through in 60 minutes?
(6) Kaylin: (by now she'd have little bookmarks in it)
(1) Kibin: (Heh. Would be nice if wizards could just do spell preperation before an 8 hour rest period.)
(1) Kibin: (Read just before you go to sleep.)
(6) Kaylin: (talk about cram studying, though...)

(2) GM: Yeah. But she's preparing in the neigborhood of 30 spells each day, with about 150 spell levels, so she's specifically reading 150 pages or so.....

(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (She's flipping1)

(1) Kibin: (Still trance meditation thingie. She's in a trance meditating on her spellbook. Or something.)

(6) Kaylin: I havent had a chance to Scry in quite some time. Mind if I have a try at it?
(2) GM: Elorin: Go for it. Do remember, though, how difficult it can be to pin a Cleric down with such.
(6) Kaylin: Oh, it is. Good thing there's you as well then.

** (1) Kibin lays down on the ground, looking in front of Kaylin waiting for cool image thingie. **

(2) GM: Jason: Not that illusonary; real enough, although only about half as strong as the original..... hmm.... that's not a good sign.
(1) Kibin: (Dude, we got our butt kicked by something half as strong as the original?)
(6) Kaylin: If the duplicate is only half as strong, I worry about a confrontation with the original.
(2) GM: Jason: You never know... the original could be dead already... you'd just need a pice of him to make the fake....
(6) Kaylin: That's true.
(2) GM: Jason: For that matter, the fake is in permanent thrall to the maker....... doesn't need to be doing anything like what the original would want.
(1) Kibin: So what happens if the maker is indisposed?
(2) GM: Jason: Nothing in particular. The fake is basically autonomous, but bound, forever, to follow orders.
(1) Kibin: Ah.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "Any way to unbind it?"
(6) Kaylin: I wonder how the human is exerting control over the simulacrum...
(1) Kibin: Human? What human?
(6) Kaylin: The maker. He's a red-haired human, wearing a black robe.
(6) Kaylin: In some kind of laboratory.
(1) Kibin: It would be nice if we could see him...
(1) Kibin: (*pokes Kaylin*)

(2) GM: And you get an image of the cleric, in what appears to be a specially prepared laboratory, getting tended and... repaired? ... by a red-haired human in a black robe.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "How powerfull does the maker have to be?"
(2) GM: There's a lot of ice and ruby dust in the laboratory, that the red-haired human is working with... putting it into cuts, chanting over the wound, and moving on to the next.
(6) Kaylin: Fairly powerful... enough to qualify as an Archmage, would be my guess.
(1) Kibin: So lets teleport over there and take him out or something?
(6) Kaylin: That's fine by me.
** (1) Kibin prepares for teleport then. **
(6) Kaylin: Eldon? What say you?
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "I would like to end this."
(6) Kaylin: Very well. Together then...
(1) Kibin: (What say you? Lol.)

(2) GM: And you find yourselves in a fairly cramped and cluttered area; there is a stone cieling, roughly hewn, almost directly overhead, lots of things to trip over on the floor, workbenches aplenty with stuff on them - snow, mostly.
(2) GM: How close do you want to appear?
(1) Kibin: (So that melee guys are in melee distance?)
(6) Kaylin: (Moderately close... aim for around 15 feet or so if there's a good open space in that area)
(1) Kibin: (Meh, not going to make it so I can 5 foot step and full sneak attack?)
(2) GM: There's enough space to land.... but that puts you in workbench territory, rather than the small open space the actual repair is being done in.
(6) Kaylin: (Workbenches are no good)
(2) GM: Looking across the room, you see the entire place seems to be surrounded by an undulating wall of blood. Will saves?

(6) Kaylin: We were trapped in there too...
(6) Kaylin: Mostly we were just following this simulacrum of yours..

** (1) Kibin looks at the various lab equipment, keeping an eye and ears out in case the black robed guy begins to start fighting. **
(2) GM: Black Robe: Bah! That's what the platform is for. Sheesh. You pop into a prison uninvited, and expect someone to unlock the door for you on the way out. Mortals.
(6) Kaylin (whispering): When you say completely dark, is that a magical darkness or just an absence of light?
(2) GM: Black Robe: Well, I must follow orders. Not necessarily the way I'd like things to play out...

(6) Kaylin: I don't suppose you could turn the lights on in here?
** (1) Kibin thinks for a moment. A simulacrum of a simulacrum... **
(1) Kibin: Um, it's perfectly lighted in here?
(2) GM: The black robed man chuckles: But they are on.
(6) Kaylin: Completely dark to me.

** (1) Kibin hmmms. For being evil, they sure are peaceful. **
(2) GM: Black Robe: So, what are you here for? Has my companion been chasing you down or something?
(6) Kaylin: (evil does not mean violent... or desiring to fight against these odds...)
(1) Kibin: (Is the black robe still repairing?)
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (BRB)
(2) GM: He hasn't stopped at his work. He's watching you, for certain, but it's clearly a very long process, and he'd rather not start over.
(6) Kaylin: We got into a bit of a fight with him, if you're referring to what you're repairing.
** (1) Kibin goes wandering around, looking at various labratory equipment, subtly getting closing trying to not make it look like he's doing so. **
(2) GM: Black Robe: Yeah, he mentioned it.... you invaded his office, out of the blue, and started trying to kill him. When he went into the peaceful solitude of the Prison, you followed, and tried to kill him again. So now we are where we are.
(6) Kaylin: Yes, we're just always in the wrong, aren't we.
(6) Kaylin: You are aware of what he's been doing in that town?
(1) Kibin: \
(2) GM: Black Robe: Stopping a war, yes. Okay, it leaves the townsfolk rather defenseless, but a shepherd guards the flock. If you hadn't hurt him, he would have been up there dealing with the threats that you let loose after we spent so much effort trapping them.
(1) Kibin: You mean like calling them, and telling them they can either work for them or stay imprisioned forever?
(2) GM: Oh, and Kibin - bluff check?

(6) Kaylin: They're hardly townsfolk now... just automatons...
(2) GM: Black Robe: Actually, he didn't Call them, nor did I; they had already been loose on this plane, for one reason or another. We just trapped them so they couldn't do any harm when they didn't want to be peaceful.

(1) Kibin: ("You killed babies" just doesn't seem very dramatic.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: (Imagine it said they same way as 'You will die'.)
(2) GM: Black Robe: Only the ones that weren't wanted. Even then, they just go to Shanhara's courts. Would you prefer they grow up neglected by their parents? Unfed? Left to cry themselves to sleep?
(2) GM: Black Robe: We're very careful of how they leave this world.
(1) Kibin: It sure beats dying.
(5) Eldon Quickfoot: "It is there life and not yours to take."
(2) GM: Black Robe: I have memory of both situations. Their parents give them to me. Can't simply abandon them in the wilderness. But, I suppose we won't be able to discuss this rationally, will we?
(2) GM: Black Robe: Silly little things, fundamental assumptions.... can't be debated, really.
(1) Kibin: (Hmmm. Can a spellcaster make it so that someone automatically succeeds on the save of a spell?)
(2) GM: Limited Wish can force the next blow to be successful; it wouldn't be too out of line for Wish to make you Immune to the effects of the next saveable spell to hit you. Concrete proof nullifies illusions.
(2) GM: ...mostly...
(1) Kibin: (Concrete proof didn't shatter the illusion of the matrix.)
(6) Kaylin: You're right there. They can't be debated.
(1) Kibin: (Anyway... just thinking about something because of the "can't simply abandon them in the wilderness". Heh.)
