Server Administrator-> You have connected to an OpenRPG server, version '1.6.1'.
Welcome to Jack Simth's temporary server!
I put this up just for a short gaming session on Saturday, and stop it after.
Session is schedualed for 10 AM Pacific Standard Time.

(1) Kibin (enter): 10:53
(1) Kibin: Welcome back.
(2) GM: That was fun.
(2) GM: Now, where'd Douglas go?
(3) Elorin (enter): 10:54
(3) Elorin: Hmm, a pity Commune says one question per caster level rather than tying it to the identical duration. Then you could Extend it for 40 questions :P Add a Bead of Karma and Orange Prism Ioun Stone for 50
(1) Kibin: Sorry, but no getting exact locations in binary for you.
(3) Elorin: [2**50] -> 1125899906842624
(2) GM: Beware, lest they call in the Cleric-15/Heirophant-5 (spell power*5) Bead of Karma and Orange Prism Ioun Stone investigator.
(2) GM: Caster level 30.
(3) Elorin: That should be enough to narrow it down to one person out of the entire world :P
(3) Elorin: [2**30] -> 1073741824
(3) Elorin: Even that could probably do it, I think
(2) GM: The catch, of course, being that someone who's really interested in fleeing requires you to narrow it down out of the entirety of the planes.....
(2) GM: Many of which are infinite.
(1) Kibin: Yeah, but I wouldn't want to be on layer 116537135472 of the abyss.
(2) GM: No, but the Twin Planes of Bytopia are, in and of themselves, described as infinite planes.
(1) Kibin: Ah, right.
(2) GM: As are quite a few others. But the Twin Paradises are pleasant.
(2) GM: But it's layer 116537135473 you really need to worry about.
(2) GM: 116537135472 isn't that bad.
(3) Elorin: So, I cast Miracle to Plane Shift the party to layer 116537135472 of the Abyss. What do I see?
(2) GM: Burning hellfire everywhere. Nothing but pain and suffering. Make a concentration check....
(3) Elorin: Concentration Skill Check: [1d20+25] -> [4,25] = (29)
(3) Elorin: The DC was 30, right?
(2) GM: Sorry, you lose the spell to escape, and burn up.
(1) Kibin: Ouch.
(2) GM: Beats 116537135473
(3) Elorin: Which is what?
(2) GM: One-way. Even post mortem.
(1) Kibin: What's 116537135474 like?
(2) GM: Gathering ground for faction 112494568892 of the Lords of the Abyss.
(1) Kibin: Ah.
** (1) Kibin wonders what level 666 is like, then. **
(3) Elorin: Now if I were evil, I'd be tempted to start relocating the entire native population of a certain plane full of gnomes to level 116537135473
(3) Elorin: I'd like to see them try to conquer the multiverse from there
(3) Elorin: No convenient portal out through a hypercube
(1) Kibin: Except gnomes aren't war mongering anymore.
(2) GM: Eh, they aren't currently on a conquring binge. And it's really, really hard to relocate the entire population of a plane.
(1) Kibin: Not if you have a deity do it with a nigh infinite caster level.
(2) GM: Oh, sure, Pun Pun could pull it off. If it weren't for the falling cow brigade.
(2) GM: Meanwhile, an hour past.
(2) GM: Shall we?
(1) Kibin (exit): 11:07
Moving to room 'D and D'..

Server Administrator->
Welcome to Jack Simth's temporary server!
I put this up just for a short gaming session on Saturday, and stop it after.
Session is schedualed for 10 AM Pacific Standard Time.

(1) Kibin (enter): 11:07
(3) Elorin (enter): 11:08
(3) Elorin: (That's why we go powerlevelling, get Kaylin to 21 for Epic Spellcasting, use Limited Wish to swap out feats for Leadership, Epic Leadership, Legendary Commander, etc. and make an epic ritual to do it)
(3) Elorin: (brb)
(1) Kibin: (And then the flying cow comes in.)
(2) GM: When we last left our heroes, Kibin had just been exiled, and Katsuro had just received his quest.
(1) Kibin: (And we slept here for the night, if I recall?)(
(2) GM: I think so, yes. Day 1 of 7.
whispering to Kibin, In the morning, your throat feels mildly sore.
(2) GM: It's a beautiful day in the city. Everyone is busily going about their business, and the sun is shining, although there are a few clouds on the Horizon.
(2) GM: The candle-maker is back, seemingly recovered (for the moment, anyway) from a bout of depression.
(3) Elorin: (sorry, I don't think I have a cure for that)
** (1) Kibin stretches after he gets up, and then after a Hero's Feast, suggests, "Let's get started on that quest now?" **
(2) GM: Katsuro: Of course. We need to get you out of town anyway.
(1) Kibin: That too...
(3) Elorin: What's life without a little excitement now and then? Not my quest, but sure I'll help.
(2) GM: Kaylin: So, where to?
(3) Elorin: Did they give us any information to start on?
(2) GM: Katsuro: Yeah, they handed us a copy of the information packet.
(2) GM: Katsuro hands it to Elorin.
** (3) Elorin starts reading it (as soon as I get it, anyway) **
** (1) Kibin hovers behind Elorin, reading the packet too over Elorin's shoulder. **
(2) GM: The packet descibes the gems (six of them, depicted as hexagons) with a flaw in the center. Oddly, the packet doesn't list the types of the gems, but one is perfectly clear, one is a pure, clear redish orange, one is a clear brown, one is a clear blue, one is a clear black (you have no idea how that works visually, but that's how it is described), and the sixth is clear white (but unlike the totally clear gem, whitens the view of anything seen through it).
(2) GM: They are all recorded as having been found in the same mine, now closed due to an infestation of various underground critters that showed up the day after the gems were found.
(2) GM: On the same day.
(2) GM: The day after, they were turned over to the local ruler as a tribute. Since then, they have been handed from king to king, either through mundane inheritence or through conquest.
(2) GM: Oddly, there's no mention of who cut the gems, and with the timefrom from the unearthing to the passing off as tribute, there's little, if any, time to have had them cut.
(2) GM: Then they were stolen about three years ago.
(2) GM: There's a map to the mine, as well as a few of the keeps they have been kept at in the past (most of which are currently in ruins).
(2) GM: The listed quest is to return them to their rightful owner.
(2) GM: The gems themselves are described as being three inches across, and one inch thick, cut in such a way that they lie flat on one side.
(2) GM: The platinum crown they were stolen out of was left behind.
(2) GM: The language is a bit flowery, but those are what facts you can extract from the parchment.
(3) Elorin: ("rightful owner"? Does it state who that is?)
(1) Kibin: Hope the gems aren't somewhere within a hundred miles...
(2) GM: (No. Nor even a refference point as to who's laws determine rightful ownership, other than the seal of the King on the parchment.)
(1) Kibin: Knowledge: Local Skill Check: [1d20+5] -> [5,5] = (10)
(1) Kibin: (See if I know anything about the laws that govern proper ownership of the gems?)
whispering to Kibin, The mine, and the listed keeps, aren't close... you think.
whispering to Kibin, Unfortunately, it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Kings and war are usually a law unto themselves, and half of the time it changed hands, it was due to such.
(2) GM: You do note that in the history presented, the gems were always moved as a set.
(2) GM: There are a couple of notes about who did the original investigation; the current chef of police for the area (he retired from investigative work his third week on the case).
(1) Kibin: So... go to the chief of police, see if he has anything, and make sure we're out of here in 7 days?
(3) Elorin: It seems to me that these gems likely performed some magical function, and their original discovery and mining may well have been theft from their proper owners.
(2) GM: So, who does what?
** (1) Kibin is just following the group now. **
(3) Elorin: This information doesn't seem to give any indication of where to look for them. We need more information, and the only mention of where to get it is the chief of police.
(3) Elorin: (brb)
(1) Kibin: So... let's go to the chief of police then, and get some more details?
(2) GM: Jason: Sounds like a plan.
(2) GM: So everyone goes down to the local police station, and inquires for the Chief.
(1) Kibin: ...would like someone else to talk though, my throat is sore...
(2) GM: The uniformed guards at the door see the packet, shrug, and escort you in.
(2) GM: The Chief of police is and older chap, probably about 50, but well muscled all the same. He sits behind a large, oaken desk, and grimaces at you as you come in.
(2) GM: Chief: What?
(2) GM: A placard on his desk reads :Chief of Police Riley.
(1) Kibin: (Ah yes, Elorin is AFK.)
(1) Kibin: (Or not.)
(3) Elorin: Katsuro here is on quest duty, and the information we have indicates you might have more information for us.
** (3) Elorin presents the packet **
(3) Elorin: Recovering the crown jewels
(2) GM: Riley: That wasn't my case. Nobody wanted to be held accountable when it came in, so it was passed off to the new guy. After three weeks, he retired rather than having to face the King saying he had exhausted all leads... we kept him on as the cook. Fred?
(2) GM: A unifored officer rushes in on hearing his name.
(2) GM: Fred: Yes?
(2) GM: Riley: Fetch Dave for me, would you? The wheels of justice have handed out another copy of his case.
(2) GM: Fred: Sure, and do remember, his official title is Chef of Police. He hates it when you call him the cook.
(2) GM: Riley: Right.
** (3) Elorin blinks **
** (1) Kibin chuckles at that title. **
(3) Elorin: That wasn't a scribing error?
(2) GM: Riley: And have him bring me some of that leftover duck under glass, would you? It was really good last night.
(2) GM: Riley: What, you think the guy that wasn't able to track down the theif of one of the king's most prized trasures would get a promotion?
(2) GM: Fred takes off, and a moment later a guy with a tall white hat dressed in an apron comes in, carrying a tray.
(1) Kibin: (At least now Dave can have his cake and eat it too. *cough*)
(2) GM: Dave: The duck should still be good. Entertaining guests, I see.
(2) GM: The duck, despite being cold, still smells tasty.
(2) GM: It looks like it was carefully carved into slices, but about half of it has been eaten as evidenced by the bones on the tray. Well presented, although the lettuce has started to wilt.
(2) GM: Dave: Well, dig in.
(2) GM: Riley: Actually, that was mostly pretense; the justices have handed out yet another copy of your case.
(2) GM: Dave: Really? I thought they had a rule about how many convicts that get killed on one of those things.
(2) GM: Riley: I'm not sure, but I think this is the last set, assuming they go the route of all the others.
(1) Kibin: I'm pretty sure we can take care of ourselves...
(3) Elorin: As appealing as that looks, I'm afraid we're here on business.
(2) GM: Dave: Sigh. I still hate that clause in my contract about answering old questions. Makes me nervous.
(2) GM: Dave: Anyway, what do you need?
(3) Elorin: Whatever you can tell us. The packet they gave us has plenty of descriptions of what the gems look like but practically nothing in the way of where to start looking for them.
(2) GM: Dave's hat comes all the way down to his eyebrows, although it looks like he had it tailord that way. His white uniform is mostly clean, although there are a few grease stains that look like they will stain the cloth for the rest of eternity.
(2) GM: Dave: Yeah, I noticed that, too. Most the interested parties are dead. On the conquering, people were practically frantic to keep the things, so just about everyone who touched them was killed when they were taken away. Our current King is the sole exception.
(2) GM: Dave: Curiously, the King never actually touched them himself, which might have something to do with it. Had to execute the jeweler that made the crown to get the thing back from him, though.
(2) GM: Dave: Heh, he locked them in his personal safe after he'd had to execute three different cleaning ladies when they suddenly became obsessed over the things while dusting.
(1) Kibin: Don't touch the gems, got it...
(3) Elorin: So they never changed hands without the previous owner being dead?
(2) GM: Dave: Well, the original miner died of old age. He actually voluntarily handed them over to the king at the time, so the stories go. That was a while back, though, and only a few court elves that witnessed the event can testify to it. He, of all people, handled them with his bare hands.
(2) GM: Dave: Otherwise, yes.
(2) GM: Dave: The mine was shut down a week after the miner came out with them. What's not in the offical report is that's because it was a week before the guy running the thing noticed that nobody was coming back out. That I had to dig up from various diaries of the presumed widows left behind.
(2) GM: Dave closes his eyes and shudders briefly.
(2) GM: Dave: Since that miner....
(1) Kibin: Any clue where the actual gems are?
(2) GM: Dave's hatband starts to soak through, and a moment later sweat starts running down his face.
(2) GM: Dave: Just a trail of destruction to an empty warehouse down by the docks, with some carvings in the floor and various bits of an obviously dead demon.
(1) Kibin: Could you give us directions to that warehouse?
(2) GM: Dave: Yeah, down by the docks, number eight. It's been left abandoned for about the last decade. Rent was paid up for twenty years, and the merchant who rented it never did come back to fill it. About seven years left on the lease.
(1) Kibin: Okay, that's a good place to start...
(2) GM: Dave: Hired a cleric to Commune and see what he could find. He gave me my money back, after the first response, and refused to say another word.
(2) GM: Dave: Never did get what his god told him.
(2) GM: Dave stops sweating, finally. He's drenched.
(2) GM: Riley: What, you're not going to ask him the obvious?
(2) GM: Dave resumes sweating.
(1) Kibin: Sore throat...
(2) GM: Riley grins evilly.
(2) GM: Riley's grin breaks into a smile.
(2) GM: Riley: Relax, it's their job. If they don't think of it, that's their problem.
(2) GM: Dave: Don't DO that; remember, I'm the one that cooks your meals.
(2) GM: Riley: Right, and I wouldn't want you poisoning me.
(2) GM: Riley rolls his eyes.
(1) Kibin: Why are you sweating?
(2) GM: Dave: Umm.... bad memories.
(3) Elorin: (only things I can think of is that maybe he has the gems hidden somewhere and is hiding it, or he just got very badly scared to the point of still having nightmares about it)
(2) GM: Dave (looking a bit nervous): I..Is that-t a-all?
(3) Elorin: Was there anything you saw in the warehouse when you found it that wouldn't be there anymore?
(2) GM: Dave (calming down): Oh, the bits of the demon are still there; nobody could quite work up the nerve to pick them up. The dogs wouldn't go near them. The locals shy away from the place. I doubt it's been disturbed. There was a funny diagram carved into the floor; I was told it was a calling diagram by a few consultants, and explains the demon. As well as the fact that the safe was torn open. But things should be essentially as they were three years ago.
(1) Kibin: To the warehouse then...
(2) GM: Dave: Have fun.
(2) GM: Dave leaves the room.
(2) GM: Riley: What, you never asked him if he checked out the mine?
(1) Kibin: That could wait for later...
** (3) Elorin smacks his forehead **
(2) GM: Riley: Don't worry about it too much; last time, he just collapsed when someone asked him. Ten of our finest and six skilled spellcasters.... and he barely managed to stumble out.
(1) Kibin: ...maybe he could talk better if he was treated to one of those hero's feasts first...
(3) Elorin: He was the only survivor of a group of 17 that went into the mine?
(2) GM: Riley: Far as I know, he's the only one to go into that pit and come out since the day the miner brought those accursed gems from the earth.
(2) GM: Riley: Have fun at the warehouse.
** (1) Kibin goes back out into the street, then... people smell bad when they sweat. **
(2) GM: Down at the docks?
(1) Kibin: (I suppose so.)
(2) GM: At the docks, the place smells of the sea. There's quite a few warehouses, some busily being loaded up, some busily being unloaded, but everyone steers clear of number 8. It's also fairly clear that the place hasn't had any maintenence in at least a few years, as some of the boards have rotted away. The doors are intact, though.
(2) GM: As are the windows. For an obviously abandoned building, the place is completely untouched.
(1) Kibin: So who wants to open the doors...
(2) GM: Kaylin reaches over and attempts to turn the knob. And finds out it's locked.
(1) Kibin: Guess it would be me, then...
** (1) Kibin goes over to unlock the doors to the warehouse. **
(1) Kibin: Open Lock Skill Check: [1d20+21] -> [5,21] = (26)
(2) GM: The door unlocks without too much trouble.
** (1) Kibin pulls open the door then. **
(2) GM: The door screeches on rusty hinges as it opens, revealing utter darkness inside, despite the windows which, from the outside, should be letting in plenty of sunlight.
(2) GM: A rather horrid stech flows out of the door.
(1) Kibin (whispering): What do I see in 120 feet?
whispering to Kibin, An engraved circle on the floor, and various scattered demon bits. Make a spot check.
(1) Kibin: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+18] -> [6,18] = (24)
whispering to Kibin, The demon bits surround the circle in a rough circle, as though the demon detonated while standing on top of it. And the dust on the floor behind the assorted demon bits is considerably thinner than that in front... if the "front" is towards the carved circle in the middle.
whispering to Kibin, It looks as though the various demon bits even scraped up a little extra dust in front of them.
** (1) Kibin goes forward into the warehouse, searching around carefully... **
(1) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [18,23] = (41)
whispering to Kibin, You don't find any traps.
(1) Kibin: No traps...
whispering to Kibin, Something looking vaguely like a hand twitches.
(2) GM: Roll vs. Initiative; Elorin, you can't see it moving, so you're out of the suprise round.
(1) Kibin: (*pokes Elorin. HELP ME. :P*)
(2) GM: [1d20+0] -> [12,0] = (12)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [9,3] = (12)
(2) GM: [1d20+0] -> [6,0] = (6)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [12,3] = (15)
(2) GM: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [18,5] = (23)
(3) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [4,6] = (10)
(2) GM: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [6,2] = (8)
(2) GM: Jason, Kibin, critter, Elorin, Kaylin.
(2) GM: Surprise round; Kibin?
(2) GM: One standard action available.
(1) Kibin (whispering): How many squares away?
whispering to Kibin, Twenty, to the piece that twitched.
(1) Kibin (whispering): I'll move over to it this round, then.
whispering to Kibin, Not attempting a partial charge?
(3) Elorin: (brb)
(1) Kibin (whispering): ...doh, I'm stupid, yes attempting a partial charge.
(2) GM: Kibin Charges into the darkness.....
whispering to Kibin, Attack and damage roll? Sneak attack applies.
(1) Kibin: Sneak Attack Bite (base): [1d20+25] -> [10,25] = (35) ===> Damage: [1d6+6+9d6] -> [4,6,6,3,6,2,6,4,2,1,2] = (42)
whispering to Kibin, You sever several tendons in the hand.
whispering to Kibin, And a hand across the room gestures....
(2) GM: Four glowing balls of rock rocket towards Kibin....
(2) GM: [1d20+10] -> [6,10] = (16), [1d20+10] -> [2,10] = (12), [1d20+10] -> [20,10] = (30), [1d20+10] -> [19,10] = (29)
** (1) Kibin thinks, "Oh crud, that was attached to something..." **
(2) GM: Kibin, touch AC?
(1) Kibin: (25...)
(2) GM: Oh, a crit to confirm.... [1d20+10] -> [7,10] = (17)
(3) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+22] -> [7,22] = (29)
(2) GM: So two hits, no crits; [4d6] -> [5,4,3,6] = (18) bludgeoning, and [6d6] -> [3,3,5,1,1,4] = (17) and [6d6] -> [6,4,4,3,5,5] = (27) unavoidable Fire damage, as well as [6d6] -> [6,2,5,4,1,4] = (22) and [6d6] -> [4,3,1,3,5,1] = (17) fire damage; make two reflex saves.
whispering to Elorin, Meteor Swarm
(1) Kibin: Reflex save: [1d20+24] -> [17,24] = (41)
(1) Kibin: Reflex save: [1d20+24] -> [18,24] = (42)
(2) GM: You successfully Evade. You are, however, still stuck with [18+17*1.5+27*1.5] -> 84.0 damage; minus twice any fire resistence you might have.
(2) GM: Got any?
(1) Kibin: (Not too much... not really.)
(3) Elorin: (don't you have a ring of fire resistance?)
(2) GM: And that's it for the surprise round; Jason tries to figure out what's best to attack.....
(3) Elorin: (or did you get rid of that?)
(2) GM: Int check: [1d20+2] -> [1,2] = (3)
(1) Kibin: (I'm pretty sure IC that that's the only meteor swarm that there's going to be... I sold the ring.)
(2) GM: And stands there, completely stupified.
(2) GM: Kibin?
(1) Kibin: (I guess noone is flatfooted... hmmm. How far away is the source of the meteor swarm, and is it visible to me or not?)
(2) GM: Yeah, the other hand is in your field of view. Within range of a charge.
(2) GM: Although Elorin and Kaylin are still flat-footed.
(1) Kibin (whispering): Let me get this straight... Hand... as in not attached to anything?
whispering to Kibin, Correct. Nor was the one you attacked earlier. There's also two wings, a head, a few fragments of torso, some feet.....
whispering to Kibin, What else does "as though it detonated" imply?
** (1) Kibin gets to work killing what he's attacking at the moment, feinting for what good it'll do him... **
(1) Kibin: Bluff Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [16,23] = (39)
whispering to Elorin, In the brief light from the explosions, you see scattered demon bits around the room... a hand of which is dropping down from having sent the balls of fire hurling at Kibin.
(2) GM: [1d20+18+8] -> [17,18,8] = (43)
(1) Kibin: (Stupid high rolls.)
(2) GM: The hand clearly isn't fooled.
(1) Kibin: Bite (base): [1d20+25] -> [14,25] = (39) ===> Damage: [1d6+6] -> [1,6] = (7)
(2) GM: Not that you're quite sure how it sees you to actively dodge.....
(2) GM: The thing heals up instantaneously from your bite... care to toss it anywhere?
(1) Kibin: (Over to Elorin and the others to take care of?)
(2) GM: Okay.
(2) GM: A severed demonic hand comes flying out of the darkness and lands at the door.
(2) GM: You hear a Word from out of the darkness....
whispering to Kibin, Which comes from the severed head. You're Stunned for the next [2d4] -> [3,4] = (7) rounds.
whispering to Kibin, Link to stunned condition, if you need a reminder.
(2) GM: Elorin?
(3) Elorin: (I'm not in range or line of effect of what I assume is Blasphemy?)
(2) GM: Spellcraft check?
(3) Elorin: (suppose I should roll for identifying that, though)
(3) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+22] -> [10,22] = (32)
whispering to Elorin, Actually, it was a Power Word - Stun, specifically.
(4) Katsuro (enter): 12:55
(4) Katsuro: (Hello)
(2) GM: Morning. Just in time for a bizzare fight.
(2) GM: Well, afternoon.
(3) Elorin: (hmm, am I smart enough IC to put the evidence together...)
(3) Elorin: Int check: [1d20+0] -> [12,0] = (12)
(2) GM: What is it, specifically, that you're trying to figure out?
(4) Katsuro: (Bizzare fight?)
(3) Elorin: (The kind of demon/devil that we've seen throw meteor swarm and what it was weak to)
(3) Elorin: (OOC I know it's a Pit Fiend, barring a custom creation, and I think that's probably enough to put it together from previous experience)
(1) Kibin: (I think it's both a pit fiend and a custom creation. :P)
(2) GM: Well, you've just gone down to a warehouse at the docks after having chatted with the Chef of Police and the Cheif of Police in line of investigating your Quest. Looking for clues as to where the crown jewels went. You've seen a flash of light, heard a word of some kind, and in the brief flash of light from the otherwise utterly dark warehouse, you saw Kibin standing over a severed demonic hand, with a mystic-looking diagram carved into the floor, and several other demonic body parts scattered around the place - a head, two wings, two hands (total), two feet, and several portions of torso. Looks like the demon was blown up and scattered at some point in the distant past. Clearly not unconscious, though.....
(2) GM: One of the hands has since been tossed out of the darkness at your feet.
(2) GM: And I never rolled your initiative. You mind?
(2) GM: Rolling, that is.
(3) Elorin: (Katsuro?)
(2) GM: Does that qualify as a "Bizzare fight"?
(2) GM: Ping?
(1) Kibin: (Pong.)
(2) GM: Katsuro? Intitiative?
(2) GM: Hmm. Oh well. Elorin?
** (3) Elorin starts impaling body parts with silver arrows **
(2) GM: Got Darkvision?
(3) Elorin: (yes)
(2) GM: Range?
(3) Elorin: (60 feet)
(2) GM: You've got both legs and a hand in visible range.
(2) GM: The hand having been tossed at your feet, presumeably by Kibin.
(3) Elorin: (hand, hand, leg, leg, other leg)
(3) Elorin: +1 Holy Composite Longbow (+2 Str) (Rapid Shot) (Point Blank) (attack 1+2) Attack Roll: [1d20+34] -> [15,34] = (49)===> DMG: [1d8+2d6+17+0] -> [3,3,6,17,0] = (29)

(3) Elorin: (crit confirmation)
(3) Elorin: +1 Holy Composite Longbow (+2 Str) (Rapid Shot) (Point Blank) (attack 1+2) Attack Roll: [1d20+34] -> [2,34] = (36)===> DMG: [1d8+2d6+17+0] -> [2,4,5,17,0] = (28)
(3) Elorin: (and damage for last part of x3 [1d8+17] -> [6,17] = (23))
(4) Katsuro: (Sorry, not quite awake yet.)
(2) GM: The hand and both legs shatter and dissolve into puffs of black smoke, which quickly join the surrounding darkness
(2) GM: Katsuro - initiative?
(3) Elorin: (on the first hit each?)
(4) Katsuro: (Below Elorins' damage rolls.)
(2) GM: Hand took two, first leg took one (the crit), the other leg took two.
(3) Elorin: (ah)
(2) GM: Katsuro? You're next. Got darkvision?
(4) Katsuro: (Goggles of night)
(2) GM: So 60 feet; currently, you don't see any body parts, what with the ones Elorin hit dissolving into smoke.
(4) Katsuro: I move further into the warehouse to see what I can see.
(1) Kibin: (That would be in () I think.)
(2) GM: On using your 30 foot move, you get to where you can see a head, scowling at you.
whispering to Katsuro, And Kibin just sort of standing there, stunned.
(2) GM: Using yor standard?
(4) Katsuro: (Standard attack?)
(2) GM: What, you don't have Multishot?
(4) Katsuro: (Hmm...Not sure.)
(4) Katsuro: (Nope)
(4) Katsuro: Imbued Longbow, composite +5, Holy, Strong, Bane Arrows Attack Roll: [1d20+27] -> [6,27] = (33) ===> Damage: [1d8+2+5+2d6+7+2d6+0] -> [7,2,5,3,6,7,1,4,0] = (35)

(2) GM: Sorry, it's Manyshot I was thinking of.
(4) Katsuro: (Yeah, I have that.)
(2) GM: MANYSHOT [Bad dice format] - [GENERAL]
(2) GM: Prerequisites: Dex 17, Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, base attack bonus +6
(2) GM: Benefit: As a standard action, you may fire two arrows at a single opponent within 30 feet. Both arrows use the same attack roll (with a -4 penalty) to determine success and deal damage normally (but see Special).
(2) GM: For every five points of base attack bonus you have above +6, you may add one additional arrow to this attack, to a maximum of four arrows at a base attack bonus of +16. However, each arrow after the second adds a cumulative -2 penalty on the attack roll (for a total penalty of -6 for three arrows and -8 for four).
(2) GM: Damage reduction and other resistances apply separately against each arrow fired.
(2) GM: Special: Regardless of the number of arrows you fire, you apply precision-based damage only once. If you score a critical hit, only the first arrow fired deals critical damage; all others deal regular damage.
(2) GM: A fighter may select Manyshot as one of his fighter bonus feats.
(2) GM: A 6th-level ranger who has chosen the archery combat style is treated as having Manyshot even if he does not have the prerequisites for it, but only when he is wearing light or no armor.
(2) GM: Ah, out of range for it; 30 feet. Oh well.
whispering to Katsuro, I take it you're trying to take down the head?
(4) Katsuro: (Yep.)
(2) GM: And what form of Bane are you using?
(4) Katsuro: (Outside, Evil)
(2) GM: Okay. And that is a hit....
(1) Kibin (whispering): *goes play flash games while waiting to be unstunned*
(2) GM: And it's Kaylin's turn....
(2) GM: Who Casts Shapechange from her spell-like, and turns into an Iron Golem after walking a ways into the room.
(2) GM: Jason hustles in and, seeing the head, tries to toss it into good light....
(2) GM: Ghost Telekenesis: Violent Thrust: Standard Action: Attack rolls (one per creature or object thrown) to hit target with loose items. Wait: [1d4] -> [3] = (3) rounds; attack roll: [1d20+16] -> [18,16] = (34)
(2) GM: [1d20+21] -> [3,21] = (24)
(2) GM: And the head goes flying, landing at Elorin's feet.
(2) GM: The head says a Word.....
(2) GM: Elorin, how many HP do you have?
(4) Katsuro: (* Washes the heads' mouth out with soap)
(2) GM: Not Blasphemy this time.....
(2) GM: Elorin?
(3) Elorin: [1d8+10] -> [6,10] = (16) Heroes Feast
(3) Elorin: (154 hp)
(2) GM: Hmm... do temporary HP count for that? Yeah, I suppose you're fine.
(2) GM: Barely.
(2) GM: Elorin?
(1) Kibin (whispering): Ah, it wasn't a blasphemy...
(3) Elorin: (by 4 hp)
whispering to Kibin, Power Word Stun. You were only affected at all because you were reduced by the initial Meteor Swarm
** (3) Elorin turns the head into smoke with a few more arrows **
(3) Elorin: +1 Holy Composite Longbow (+2 Str) (Rapid Shot) (Point Blank) (attack 1+2) Attack Roll: [1d20+34] -> [14,34] = (48)===> DMG: [1d8+2d6+17+0] -> [2,2,1,17,0] = (22)
(3) Elorin: +1 Holy Composite Longbow (+2 Str) (Rapid Shot) (Point Blank) (attack 1+2) Attack Roll: [1d20+34] -> [2,34] = (36)===> DMG: [1d8+2d6+17+0] -> [7,3,3,17,0] = (30)

(3) Elorin: +1 Holy Composite Longbow (+2 Str) (Rapid Shot) (Point Blank) (attack 4) Attack Roll: [1d20+24] -> [2,24] = (26)===> DMG: [1d8+2d6+17+0] -> [4,4,2,17,0] = (27)
(1) Kibin (whispering): Yup... so glad it didn't use power word kill.
(3) Elorin: (how many of those does it take?)
(3) Elorin: (silver)
(2) GM: Just two.
(3) Elorin: (5 ft step into warehouse)
(2) GM: And yes, the head turns into a cloud of oily black smoke.... and the darkness dissolves, and the other demonic parts likewise smoke out and vanish.
(2) GM: Sunlight pours in through the windows, and the place is now fairly well-lit.
** (1) Kibin just stands in the warehouse in a daze. **
(3) Elorin: I wonder if the merchant renting this might be interested in using it again now.
(2) GM: For about half a minute longer.
** (3) Elorin heals Kibin **
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Heal ( level 6, "Cures 10 points/level of damage, all diseases and mental conditions" )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) GM: So, after the Healing, who does what?
(1) Kibin: That was fun...
(4) Katsuro: (Recap?)
** (1) Kibin searches the warehouse for any signs of the gems. Might be that easy, might not be... **
(2) GM: Elorin - you want to try your hand at a recap?
(1) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [5,23] = (28)
whispering to Kibin, You don't find so much as mouse droppings. Seems the place had a rather unholy aura after a while. You do, however, find a very old sheaf of paper that describes the "wonderful new and amazingly short" trade route the merchant had discovered, and although he does breifly wonder in the lost page of his diary why nobody else has tried it, he's confident he can make ten trips a year at a rediculous profit, and will need all the storeage speace.
whispering to Kibin, So confident, in fact, that he rented the warehouse for twenty years in expectation of being back in a month. It's dated about 17 years ago.
whispering to Kibin, The place has rather clearly been abandoned since.
(1) Kibin: Anyone know when the gems were stolen?
whispering to Kibin, It was in the packet; about three years ago.
(3) Elorin: (reviewed the info packet on the Crown Jewels, went to the Chief of Police to ask about the first investigation into them, discovered "Chef of Police" was not a typo, got told everyone who ever touched the gems became obsessed about them to the point of having to die or be killed before the next owner got them, the chef followed a trail of destruction down to the warehouse we're at now and found signs of a magical ritual of some sort and the remains of a dead demon.)
(1) Kibin: Oh, yeah, it was in the packet, nevermind...
(2) GM: Using the term "dead" loosely, of course.
(1) Kibin (whispering): That will be silently pocketed for now, then...
(4) Katsuro: (Thanks.)
(3) Elorin: (that's what he told us, anyway)
(2) GM: Don't forget the exception of the original miner - by all accounts, he handed them over willingly.
(3) Elorin: (The former investigator that told us this was the only survivor of a group of 17 that tried to investigate the mines the gems originally came from)
(3) Elorin: (The Chef is, in fact, the only person known to have survived entering that mine at all since the gems were removed from it, and he collapses in fright when asked about)
(1) Kibin: Well, I didn't find much of anything... off to the mines?
(3) Elorin: (Incidentally, the current king has never actually touched the gems)
(1) Kibin: Or sometplace else to continue looking for the gems..
(4) Katsuro: (Gotta go carry something)
** (1) Kibin waits for the other people to talk... outside though. **
(3) Elorin: (aww, Discern Location won't work on items I haven't touched :( )
(3) Elorin: (not that I really expected it to be that easy)
(1) Kibin: (Commune... "Is the Crown Jewels currently in these mines as shown on this piece of paper?")
(3) Elorin: (Oh yeah, Dave hired a cleric to Commune about the jewels. Said cleric gave his money back and refused to say anything after the first reply)
(1) Kibin: (...ah yes...)
(3) Elorin: Before we try the mines, how about tracking down that cleric Dave hired and seeing if we can get him to tell us anything.
(1) Kibin: Why not...
(2) GM: [1d20] -> [3] = (3)
(3) Elorin: Which will require going back to the police and asking who he is...
(1) Kibin: Don't have to be away from here for a few days...
(3) Elorin: But first, Kaylin, can you figure anything out from the remains of whatever ritual was performed here?
whispering to Katsuro, Oh, and your throat was a little sore when you woke up this morning.
(1) Kibin: (*briefly wonders if the GM has watched Lord of the Rings lately*)
(2) GM: Kaylin: Looks to have been a simple Calling. Pull up a Devil, send it after the treasure... obviously went a little wrong, though, as the thing had to be forced to give up what it was sent to retrieve... which is odd; the contracts usually cover that....
(2) GM: Kaylin: Just our luck he didn't bother to actually kill the beast.....
(1) Kibin: So... again... where do we go to now?
(2) GM: Well, we could go see if we can get anything out of the Cleric Dave hired... or we could just see if Elorin has anything to say on the subject....
(1) Kibin: That cleric?
(3) Elorin: Weapons shop so I can pick up some more silver arrows, I'm down to just 14, then back to ask Dave about the cleric, then find the cleric if we can. After that, if no one has any more ideas, check out the mine
(2) GM: Kaylin: We could also check out the mine, or the surrounding environs - you never know, there might be some useful ledgends in the area. Find something that maybe belong to the thief and see if we can Scry him through it. Lots of options.
(1) Kibin: To the cleric now?
(3) Elorin: I don't think we actually asked Dave who this cleric was
(1) Kibin: To Dave then the cleric.
(2) GM: So you go back to Dave, and get the name of the cleric - Jessie - and go meet him at his temple.
(2) GM: Jessie seems to be young, but oddly, his hair is rather grey. He has the look of someone who's harrowed by something, and his business has suffered for it. Still, he gets by.
(2) GM: Jessie forces a smile as you enter his small temple.
(2) GM: Jessie: Ah, welcome! Come to worship Josia?
(2) GM: The place has grown dusty; it's as though almost nobody cares.....
(2) GM: Has the look of a place that used to be prosperous, though, a few years ago.
(3) Elorin: I'm sorry, but I doubt you'll be happy to hear what we're here for.
(2) GM: Jessie: Ah. Let me guess.... you heard that I knew something about a couple of gems, right?
(3) Elorin: Yes
(2) GM: Jessie: Every couple of months, someone thinks that a little investiagion will get them out of hot water.....
(2) GM: Jessie shakes his head.
(2) GM: Jessie: Well, you're probably not going to take "no" for an answer, are you?
(3) Elorin: I'd hardly classify something that involves a demon capable of casting Meteor Swarm as a "little" investigation.
(2) GM: Jessie: Yeah. But that's not in the packet, now is it?
(3) Elorin: We just disposed of the remains of one that had been lying around dismembered in a warehouse a little while ago.
(2) GM: Jessie: Well, I suppose congratulations are in order, then. Most the people I talk with come here first.
(2) GM: Jessie: Come to think of it, you're the first set to actually not come here first....
(2) GM: Jessie: Huh.
(1) Kibin: Why?
(3) Elorin: So what do you usually tell those who bug you about this, and what usually happens to them afterwards?
(4) Katsuro: (Back for now.)
(2) GM: Jessie: First I tell them to go away, then they beat me up, then I tell them they're looking for things beft left lost, then they beat me up some more.... eventually I crack and tell them what I know, then I never see them again. I suppose we could accelerate things, I'm so tired of the cycle.
(4) Katsuro: "I have no intention of beating you up."
(2) GM: Jessie: And the stories of dead bodies of people who beat me up are so amusing....
(3) Elorin: Sounds typical of common criminals.
(1) Kibin: I don't have any intentions of beating you up either...
(2) GM: Jessie: Well, that's good to hear.
(2) GM: Jessie pulls out a bottle.
(2) GM: Jessie: Care for a drink?
(3) Elorin: I'd be more likely to try Communing myself if you refused to say anything. Beating up the innocent isn't in my usual line of work.
(4) Katsuro: "That depends on what it is."
(3) Elorin: Why not?
** (3) Elorin takes a glass **
(2) GM: Jessie: Something a little more poisonous to the beast they had you swallow than it is to you.... but only just.
(2) GM: Jessie: You'll be better off, either way.
(4) Katsuro: "Beast?"
(2) GM: Jessie: Well, okay, not a poison per se... and not a beast per se... but yes.
(3) Elorin: Oh, it's an antidote of sorts to what they had Kibin and Katsuro drink after the sentencing?
(1) Kibin: Yes, I believe death would be an antidote...
(3) Elorin: I'll pass, then, if it's that harmful and not precisely a poison.
(2) GM: Jessie: Something like that. It's slightly more likely to kill the thing lodged in your throat than it is to kill you. Slightly.
(1) Kibin: ...thing lodged in throat?
(2) GM: Jessie: Clever trick they're running. A small little construct to enforce a deal. Almost indestructable - reuseable, even. Tiny little bugger - grabs on to the victim's throat from the inside and clings there. Linked to a headband the court Sorcerer carries. Let's him know where each one is, and he can channel whatever spells he likes through them. Really hard to resist a spell that's already inside you....
(1) Kibin: That would explain my sore throat...
(4) Katsuro: (Hmm...I think that means that getting rid of it wouldn't be an alignment violation.)
(2) GM: Jessie: Yeah, a side-effect. It has to move every now and again. Still, I haven't heard of him doing anything not by either the court's or the King's order. The terms they gave you will almost certainly be the ones enforced.
(4) Katsuro: (Gotta go cary something again. Katsuro will leave it there, for now. Lawfull punishment and all that.)
(2) GM: Jessie: Although there was a paperwork mixup the one time...... but if you're investigating that....
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, but technically there was nothing that prohibited you from removing it.)
(2) GM: Jessie: Up for a drink? It'll be kinder than what's waiting for you....
(1) Kibin: I'll take it, even though I specifically don't have to go on the quest...
(2) GM: Jessie: Ah... got lucky with Exile?
(2) GM: Jessie: Here.
(1) Kibin: Actually, I sort of chose exil.. um, how did you know that?
(2) GM: Jessie pours a glass to the brim, and carefully hands it over to Kibin. Even so, a drop falls, and passes through the wooden floor like it wasn't even there, leaving a hole behind.
(3) Elorin: Well, you are a silver dragon and the laws for that are on the books...
(1) Kibin (whispering): Thought that the laws were kind of vague, there, and I could in a way choose what punishment I would have?
(3) Elorin: What is that, the strongest acid ever made?
** (1) Kibin hmms. He drinks whats in the glass whole, then... **
whispering to Kibin, It was mostly a lack of familiarity on the part of the Judge with the segment defined by assorted treaties; you were more familiar with them than he was, and could emphasisize certain passages over others. Not sufficiently so to get off without punishment... but enough to have a choice in the matter.
(2) GM: Make a Fort save.
(1) Kibin: Fortitude save: [1d20+19] -> [16,19] = (35)
(2) GM: Jessie: No, more like a mixture of a few different potions.
whispering to Kibin, Failure. Take [3d6] -> [1,6,1] = (8) Con drain.
** (1) Kibin coughs, saying, "That would have been nice to know BEFORE I drank it..." **
(2) GM: Jessie: Rather nasty stuff. Still, it's about all that can actually destroy one of those beasties. And congratulations on being able to talk; that's a good sign.
(1) Kibin: Um... why is it a good sign? What usually happens?
(2) GM: Jessie: About half the people that drink that drop dead. About half of those that survive initially drop dead ten minutes later.
(1) Kibin: Um... okay, that's not good...
** (1) Kibin glances up at Elorin. **
(2) GM: Jessie: Oh, and you'll want to avoid healing magics. The thing won't be dead for at least another ten minutes, and healing magics will spoil the effect.
(1) Kibin: ...oh.
(3) Elorin: I see.
(1) Kibin: And if I don't survive then?
(2) GM: Jessie: Well, they haven't been able to re-use the ones from anyone who died from that draught.....
(3) Elorin: Well, if you drop dead in ten minutes, I think it's only fair that you pay part of the replacement cost for reviving you.
(2) GM: Jessie: Still, you've beaten the odds so far.
(1) Kibin: Meh...
(1) Kibin: Couldn't a strong acid have worked?
whispering to Kibin, Oh, and that robs you of what, about 80 HP?
(3) Elorin: So, while we're waiting to see if I need to use some of our diamonds or not, how about you go ahead and tell us what you know about the gems?
(1) Kibin (whispering): Something like that, yes.
(2) GM: Jessie: They're designed to survive leaving through the digestive tract after the sentence is up. No, acid doesn't cut it. Also a little more harmful to most, and harder to keep in glass.
(2) GM: Jessie: Still... I suppose you just might make it....
(2) GM: Jessie: But I'd rather not have your deaths on my head, and nobody else has....
(2) GM: Jessie: But then, you did survive the warehouse.....
(2) GM: Jessie: You might make the next stage.....
(3) Elorin: If he doesn't, we've got enough diamonds on hand in shared possession to bring him back three times over.
(3) Elorin: And casting the spell is part of what I contribute to this merry little band.
(1) Kibin: Yes, extremely happy that he can cast that spell now so I don't have to wake up as a wolf after dying...
(2) GM: Jessie: But then... well, they're better left where they are, before anyone finds out what they can do.....
(2) GM: Jessie: Still, the Key isn't with the others.....
(2) GM: Jessie: And you have to be so carefull getting them....
(3) Elorin: They get one of the best life insurance policies I've ever heard of, I get a bit more excitement in my life. Protecting the woods from poachers was positively boring back before I met this bunch.
(1) Kibin: As to not touch them, yes.
(2) GM: Jessie: That too, yes. But they'll make you want to touch them......
(2) GM: Jessie shudders.
(3) Elorin: Sounds like you got rather a lot more than the usual short answer from your Communion
(2) GM: Jessie laughs.
(2) GM: Jessie: Yeah. You might say that.
(2) GM: Jessie: Josia saw fit to give me an answer in something other than words.
** (1) Kibin continues waiting patiently for that secondary effect to take place... **
(2) GM: Jessie: A thousand years of what hasn't happened in an instant..... they're better left buried. The King knows too much... or not enough. I still haven't quite figured out which.
(2) GM: Kibin, make a Fort save.
(1) Kibin: Fortitude save: [1d20+19] -> [18,19] = (37)
(1) Kibin: (Whooo, higher than last time.)
(3) Elorin: (good time to roll high)
whispering to Kibin, Still a failure, though. Take [2d6] -> [5,2] = (7) Con damage.
** (1) Kibin coughs again, looking weaker than before. "That didn't feel too good... though not as bad as last time..." **
(3) Elorin: I don't know... The packet they gave us said to restore them to their "rightful owner" with no mention of who that might be. The King may not be trying to claim them for himself.
** (1) Kibin smells loophole... **
(2) GM: Jessie: Well, he managed to obtain the Key a year or two ago.... I'm not sure as to the exact timing, I haven't been able to rest well, and I lose track of the days, but the parade matched the first one.... and by his lights, they are proper war bounty. Still... it's the Sorcerer you'll need to convince, more than the King.
(2) GM: Jessie: But once he unlocks it.....
(2) GM: Jessie: No, better left buried.
(1) Kibin: Ugh... can Elorin heal me now?
(2) GM: Jessie: Hmm? Yeah, it's been ten minutes.
(4) Katsuro: "Any chance they could be smashed? The contract didn't say 'returned whole'...."
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Heal ( level 6, "Cures 10 points/level of damage, all diseases and mental conditions" )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 6 Spell ( level 6, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(1) Kibin: (*is literally hanging by a thread... or at least a magical amulet*)
(3) Elorin: Ok, it's become rather ridiculously obvious that these gems are magical and powerful, so what are they for?
** (1) Kibin still doesn't feel that good, but better now. **
(3) Elorin: If it's something better left alone, I'd be happy to do that, but I want to make the decision on my own with good information.
(2) GM: Jessie: Not sure exactly what they're for. You could try smashing them, haven't thought about it much. Don't know why it never occured to me....
(3) Elorin: You've mentioned a Key. Any idea what sort of lock or gate it opens, and how the gems are involved?
(2) GM: Jessie: Anyway, I don't know what they're for, but what they do depends on how they're arranged. In the vision, the King got it wrong...... very, very wrong. A thousand years of torment before Josia let me loose from the vision. He wanted to keep it under wraps, I guess.
(3) Elorin: (why only 96 hp, Kibin? Heal does 150)
(2) GM: (it does not, however, deal with one of the problem's Kibin's facing)
(3) Elorin: (con drain?)
(2) GM: Jessie: Well... more like a KeyStone. It's a gem much like the others. Looked like carved pearl; hard to say exactly. Goes in the center.
(3) Elorin: And the king already has this KeyStone but can't use it without the other six gems.
(4) Katsuro: "And if it were smashed?"
(2) GM: Jessie: Didn't come up in the vision.
(1) Kibin: You had a vision for a thousand years?
(3) Elorin: (brb)
(2) GM: Jessie: Yeah. A very long few seconds, from the look on Dave's face.
(2) GM: Jessie: He hadn't moved a bit...
(2) GM: Jessie: But it was a thousand years or more......
(2) GM: Jessie starts looking this way and that, not really focusing on anything in particular.
(2) GM: After a moment, he composes himself.
(2) GM: Jessie: You want to smash them, you said? Fine.
(3) Elorin: So something very very bad can happen if they're arranged one way. Is there another way that does something very good?
(4) Katsuro: "That seems the safest route. Return the pieces."
(2) GM: Jessie: They're back in the mine they weren't drawn out of. Main entrance, third drop-shaft, you want the fourth horizontal branch. At the back, is the original theif, cooing over his prize.
(1) Kibin: (Yup, Jack has been watching Lord of the Rings apparently.)
(4) Katsuro: ('My precious!')
(3) Elorin: Is there anything else in the way that we'd have to deal with?
(2) GM: Jessie: Yeah. For the person who arranges them, at least. It could be argued that the King got what he wanted from them....
(3) Elorin: Or did the previous investigators kill each other over who got to keep them?
** (1) Kibin hmmms. He asks Kaylin, "Would that description along with the map be enough to teleport us in exactly on the location of the gems?" **
(2) GM: Jessie: Yeah. You'll need to deal with the mine's current inhabitents. I was a soldier... then another soldier when that one bought it, and another, and another....
(1) Kibin: Save us a lot of trouble...
(3) Elorin: And what did the King get from them?
(2) GM: Jessie: But I wouldn't reccomend a teleport. You can make the outside of the mine, readily enough.... but the teleporting scouts I sent directly in there never did return.
(2) GM: Jessie: He ruled.
(1) Kibin: Bleh, never that easy...
(2) GM: Jessie: And ruled, and ruled, and ruled.... he looked no older at the end of the Torment than at the beginning.... had some demon princes over for breakfast... as the main course. I was a prince, too......
(2) GM: Jessie whimpers slighly.
(1) Kibin: Another reason to honor my exile and stay far away from this place...
(2) GM: Jessie: He didn't enjoy it, though..... he did it wrong..... kept whispering about having mixed up air and positive energy.....
(3) Elorin: Oh, you were talking about what happened in your vision? So if used in the right way, they make the user immortal and incredibly powerful. Do they have any less selfish uses, or is hoping the beneficiary is a good person the best outcome of using them?
(2) GM: Jessie: He was in such pain... I ruled, too....
(1) Kibin: Joy, more confusing statements...
(2) GM: Jessie: Hard to say... the parchment that he kept hitting his head over had several different arrangements... I couldn't read the text.
(3) Elorin: Hmm, and he's powerful and resourceful enough already to easily have access to most identification magic...
(2) GM: Jessie: Sorry... I expirienced it... but I was dead by then, so I was other people in the vision. Lots of soldiers, a demon prince at breakfast... the King .... whoever I needed to be to see what needed to be seen. Josia, a the end........
(3) Elorin: (what kind of check would it be to know about artifacts and their resistance to identification?)
(2) GM: Jessie shudders.
(1) Kibin: Not to mention he also takes vacations into the Abyss...
(2) GM: In general? Spellcraft.
(3) Elorin: (plus their near indestructibility)
(3) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+22] -> [6,22] = (28)
(2) GM: As it's about identification spells.
whispering to Elorin, Yeah, most spells won't do it. But you already knew that.
(3) Elorin (whispering): I'm trying for the progression from can't be ID'd -> artifact -> can't be smashed
** (1) Kibin yawns, so bored... **
whispering to Elorin, It is listed that it's tricky to destroy something that refuses to be identified... but it can very well be possible.
(3) Elorin (whispering): might need Kaylin to jump in if it needs Knowledge (Arcana)
whispering to Elorin, Out of character, I will let you smash them - successfully, even - as I didn't think about it beforehand.
(4) Katsuro: (Going to start up some noodles.)
(2) GM: Jessie: Anyway... I think you just might succeed. I can only hope....
(2) GM: Jessie: Can't have that vison come to pass....
(1) Kibin: So... can we get started now?
(3) Elorin: We can try smashing them if we get that far, but it may not work. Also, there is a strong possibility that they have uses other than the one you saw the King do, and it may be worth trying to research them. In any case, I would not return them to the King intact without also providing information about a way to put them to truly good ends and an agreement that that is all he would use them for.
(2) GM: Jessie panicks at that.
(2) GM: Jessie: No! Don't let the King get them!
(2) GM: Roll vs. Initiative.
(3) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [8,6] = (14)
(4) Katsuro: "I won't. Not intact."
(4) Katsuro: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [9,5] = (14)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [20,3] = (23)
(2) GM: [1d20+2] -> [15,2] = (17)
(2) GM: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [13,5] = (18)
(2) GM: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [2,2] = (4)
(1) Kibin: (Yay natural 20 on initative...)
(2) GM: Kibin, Jason, Jessie, Elorin or Katsuro - roll off - Kaylin.
(3) Elorin: Not without sure knowledge of a worthwhile use and confidence that he would not put them to the use you saw, certainly.
(4) Katsuro: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [11,5] = (16)
(3) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [19,6] = (25)
(2) GM: Jessie: No! He just said he might give them back!
(2) GM: Kibin, Jason, Jessie, Elorin, Katsuro, Kaylin.
(4) Katsuro: "Given the nature of the vision, I have no confidence that he would use them for good purposes."
(2) GM: Kibin? Jessie is obviously readying a spell of some kind...
(3) Elorin: Under very strict conditions that would ensure as much as I possibly can that your vision would not come to pass.
(1) Kibin: (Paralyzing breath weapon, away!!!)
(2) GM: And his eyes look a little wild.....
(3) Elorin: I would not rely on my own judgement in this.
(2) GM: [1d20+20] -> [9,20] = (29)
** (1) Kibin stands up, and blasts Jessie with a freezing breath of cold... **
(2) GM: Jessie's unaffected by the blast. (unless you've got a DC 30 somehow....
(1) Kibin: (Nope...)
(1) Kibin: [1d4] -> [4] = (4)
(3) Elorin: I will return them only after asking approval of my own god, Ehlonna. And yours if you insist.
(2) GM: Shadow Conjouration, Greater, 7th: As shadow conjuration, but up to 6th level and 60% real
(2) GM: Shadow Conjouration, Greater, 7th: As shadow conjuration, but up to 6th level and 60% real
(2) GM: Jason sees about blocking line of sight by bringing up some solid fog....
(2) GM: And Jessie's turn....
(1) Kibin: Will save: [1d20+18] -> [12,18] = (30)
(1) Kibin: (Save against the shadow conjuration for me...)
(2) GM: Who all's Lawful in the party?
(1) Kibin: (Me...)
(3) Elorin: (Katsuro)
(3) Elorin: (not me, not Kaylin)
(2) GM: Katsuro and Kibin are unaffected by Jessie's spell.....
(3) Elorin: (and save for shadow conjuration)
(3) Elorin: Will save: [1d20+28] -> [15,28] = (43)
(3) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+22] -> [16,22] = (38)
(2) GM: Elorin, you are Parlized, Slowed, and Deafened... and you're still wearing your ring of Freedom of Movement, right?
whispering to Elorin, Dictum.
(3) Elorin: (yes)
(4) Katsuro: (Katsuro is LG)
(2) GM: Jason, on the other hand, goes poof.
(2) GM: Kaylin is also Paralized, Slowed, and Deafened....
(1) Kibin: (I saved against the solid fog, right?)
(2) GM: Deafened: [1d4] -> [3] = (3) rounds, Slowed: [2d4] -> [1,2] = (3) rounds, paralized: [1d10] -> [4] = (4) minutes.
(1) Kibin: (The shadow conjuration solid fog anyway.)
(2) GM: Yes. It's now only 60% solid for Kibin and Elorin. 60 or less impeeds movement for Kibin [1d100] -> [62] = (62) and Elorin [1d100] -> [56] = (56)
(2) GM: Kibin - the fog isn't there. Elorin - it is.
(2) GM: Anyone else making a Will save vs. the Fog?
(1) Kibin: (Elorin has freedom of movement, it's kind of moot for him...)
(2) GM: True.
(2) GM: Still blocks line of sight, though....
(2) GM: (but not for Kibin)
(2) GM: [1d20+22] -> [9,22] = (31)
(2) GM: [1d100] -> [76] = (76)
** (1) Kibin says to the cleric, "Can you please just cool down, Elorin was only going to give the gems to the king if they were destroyed beyond repair..." **
(3) Elorin: (so, anyone have really high diplomacy?)
(2) GM: And it's Elorin's turn.
(1) Kibin: Diplomacy Skill Check: [1d20+15] -> [9,15] = (24)
(2) GM: Kibin - Bluff check? After all, that's not what Elorin actually said.....
(1) Kibin: (Eh high. :P)
(1) Kibin: Bluff Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [14,23] = (37)
(2) GM: [1d20+6] -> [6,6] = (12)
(2) GM: Even with the +10 for absurd....
(2) GM: Jessie: .... you're sure?
(1) Kibin: Yes...
(1) Kibin: (*has bad memory sometimes. x.x*)
** (3) Elorin can't hear this exchange and tries his own explanation **
(2) GM: Jessie: .... well okay then.
(4) Katsuro: (Food...)
(2) GM: Can't hear it, can't see it.....
(1) Kibin: (Actually you can still see things 5 feet away I think.)
(3) Elorin: Only with assurance from both your Josia and my Ehlonna that it is the right thing to do
(2) GM: Jessie: Well... all right then..... destroyed and two gods saying it's okay......
(2) GM: Katsuro? You can hear the entire set of exchanges...
(2) GM: The energies washing over you left you completely untouched.
** (1) Kibin looks over at Kaylin, wondering why she isn't moving, and poking her. **
(2) GM: When you poke her, she falls over.
(4) Katsuro: (Was getting something to eat - Nothing to say.)
(2) GM: Jessie: You do realize she's going to remember that, right?
(3) Elorin: If we don't uncover a good use and get divine approval to try it, then yes, the King will get the unusable pieces of the crown jewels.
(1) Kibin: Um... I've paralyzed her before... just haven't tipped her over before..
(3) Elorin: And I won't insist particularly strongly on trying the research first.
(3) Elorin: If the rest of you think they should just be destroyed.
(2) GM: Jessie: All right... let me get rid of this blackness....
(4) Katsuro: "It would seem safest. You may wish to commune yourself on the subject."
** (1) Kibin walks over to Elorin, pokes him, and then points to Elorin's ears. **
(2) GM: Jessie casts a spell ....[1d20+20] -> [4,20] = (24)
(2) GM: And the fog remains.
(2) GM: Jessie: Hmm.....
(2) GM: Jessie casts a spell ....[1d20+20] -> [15,20] = (35)
(2) GM: The fog vanishes, and Jessie looks smug.
(2) GM: Jessie: Oh, and you ....
(1) Kibin: (You can see just fine for about 5 feet or so, there's just concealment.)
** (3) Elorin can hear again by now **
(2) GM: Jessie: I probably ought to release you....
(4) Katsuro: (Did Elorin hear my comment?)
** (1) Kibin asks Jessie, "What was that you said anyway?" **
(2) GM: Jessie casts Dispel Magic and Kaylin gets better.
(2) GM: Jessie: Hmm? Oh just a little holy rule. It's not just saying the word; it's the Force behind it. A small sample of the might of Josia.
(2) GM: Jessie: The specific rule recited doesn't actually matter so much.....
(1) Kibin: Ah... why didn't it affect me?
(2) GM: Jessie: Why would it? It just hurts those who don't like rules.
(3) Elorin: Because you actually care about rules and such.
(1) Kibin: Ah.
(3) Elorin: Me, I just do the right thing and ignore any rules I don't like.
(1) Kibin: I try not to do that so much anymore...
(3) Elorin: Fortunately for our friend Jessie's peace of mind, he's convinced me that "the right thing" is sufficiently important in this case to stick with the rules we've agreed to.
(3) Elorin: Plus, I try to keep my word to people who deserve it.
(4) Katsuro: "I feel that one deserves to keep ones' own word."
(1) Kibin: Me too, recently...
(3) Elorin: To each his own. I have no trouble at all lying to an intelligent axe that just wants to slaughter everything in sight, for example, so that I can more easily work to change its outlook.
(3) Elorin: That actually happened, btw, for those of you who weren't in this group back then.
(1) Kibin: Where were we again?
(4) Katsuro: (Vague memory of that.)
(2) GM: Kaylin: So.... do we wait for Jason, or leave a note?
(3) Elorin: (that was in character. Katsuro wasn't around yet.)
(4) Katsuro: (I know. I commented OC)
whispering to GM, [2d4] -> [1,1] = (2)
(3) Elorin: I don't remember, was there any time limit specified in this quest?
whispering to Katsuro, Not specifically, but the rules of the game were that you had to strive for progress on any given day.
(1) Kibin: (Not really, but if you don't work on the quest for a day, you start getting sick...)
(3) Elorin: (so say that IC)
(1) Kibin: Ooops...
(1) Kibin: Not really, but apparently if you don't work on the quest for a day, you start getting sick...
(1) Kibin: (Oooops is OOC. So confused now.)
(4) Katsuro: "How long does it normally take for him to return?"
(3) Elorin: Hmm, does waiting for someone to revive so he can help you with the quest count as working on it?
(3) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+22] -> [5,22] = (27)
(2) GM: (That's okay. The person who's been a Kobold/Wolf/dragon/part-dragon human/dragon has a right to be confused.)
(3) Elorin: (lol)
(3) Elorin: (yeah, he has changed form quite a lot, hasn't he?)
whispering to Elorin, From the explaination, such as it was, it's up to the Sorcerer when he checks to decide.
(2) GM: (Oh, I forgot "egg" - oh well.)
(3) Elorin (whispering): not just a Geas spell?
(1) Kibin: (If you don't include egg with the last form anyway.)
whispering to Elorin, Right. Although that *might* be included in there somewhere, depending on whether or not the Sorcerer tossed one in after the potion.
whispering to Elorin, But for a Geas, waiting on someone to recover would only qualify if they were essential to the Geas.
(1) Kibin: Though if Katsuro removed that construct thingie he would have no problems...
(4) Katsuro: "It was part of a lawfull punishment."
(2) GM: Jessie: Oh, assuming he makes it, it should take about two to eight days.
(3) Elorin: Well, if we're not going to get rid of that, I don't think they'll let us just sit around waiting.
(1) Kibin: No, it was part of a safeguard to make sure petty thieves don't just run off. The judge said nothing about those, said nothing about removing them, and generally said nothing about them in general.
(4) Katsuro: (Wasn't part of the judgement? My memory is a sieve...)
(2) GM: Int check?
(3) Elorin: If we're going to wait for him, we have to put in at least some effort while we're waiting. Any ideas for research that would both be useful and take those several days?
(1) Kibin: Int check: [1d20+2] -> [18,2] = (20)
(2) GM: For Katsuro.
(3) Elorin: Or at least, Katsuro has to put in some effort while we wait.
(1) Kibin: (Oh.)
(2) GM: To cover what narf point chez BOOM forgot.
(4) Katsuro: (Jog my memory, someone?)
(4) Katsuro: Int check: [1d20+0] -> [5,0] = (5)
(2) GM: Int check?
(4) Katsuro: (Er...)
(3) Elorin: (I'd have to check the log)
(2) GM: Apparently, Katsuro checked his Int at the door today, along with his coat.
(1) Kibin: You were sentenced to 6 months of hard labor... they decided to be 'creative' and thus give you that quest, although they might just enjoy watching people try doing those quests..
(2) GM: No hints from me.
** (4) Katsuro decides to believe Kibin. **
(4) Katsuro: "I believe I'll have that drink now."
(2) GM: Jessie: Yeah, sure. Here...
(2) GM: Jessie pours another draught.
** (4) Katsuro takes a drink. **
(1) Kibin: Knowledge: Local Skill Check: [1d20+5] -> [8,5] = (13)
(4) Katsuro: Fortitude save: [1d20+10] -> [8,10] = (18)
(4) Katsuro: Fortitude save: [1d20+10] -> [4,10] = (14)
(2) GM: And then hands it to Katsuro.
(1) Kibin: (Eh, nevermind.)
(4) Katsuro: (...And promptly dies?)
(1) Kibin: (...dude, I didn't succeed on the ssaves even on a 37. :P)
whispering to Katsuro, Failure and failure; [3d6] -> [6,4,4] = (14) Con drain immediately, [2d6] -> [3,5] = (8) con Damage ten minutes later.
(1) Kibin: (Though there's always the chance of a natural 20...)
whispering to Katsuro, What's your Con score?
(1) Kibin: (Does Katsuro have an amulet of health?)
(4) Katsuro: (12)
(4) Katsuro: (Dead)
(2) GM: Yes, Katsuro promptly dies.
** (1) Kibin blinks. "Maybe I got lucky..." **
(2) GM: Jessie: I thought I'd made that clear......
(3) Elorin: Strong guy like him, you'd think he could take it better than the little guy
** (4) Katsuro waits to be resurected. **
(3) Elorin: Oh well, that's what these are for.
(2) GM: Jessie: Dragons are usually fairly resilient.
** (3) Elorin gets 5 diamonds out of his pack **
(3) Elorin: Takes 10 minutes to kill the construct, I think you said?
(1) Kibin: More resilient than kobolds, anyway...
(2) GM: Jessie: Usually.
(3) Elorin: So it'll be gone in time if I start casting now?
(2) GM: Jessie: So if you're bringing him back softly, it shouldn't pose a problem.
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts True Resurrection ( level 9, "As resurrection, plus remains aren't needed" )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 9 Spell ( level 9, "Spell slot tracking device" )
** (1) Kibin waits while Elorin casts the spell happy that he got lucky and didn't have to die again... **
(2) GM: Hmm... no mention of ability drain whatsover in either True Ressurection or Raise Dead where it inherits....
(3) Elorin: (are we going to have put an amulet of health on him and do it again?)
(1) Kibin: (Wisdom check to know that before the casting?)
(2) GM: No, It raises him, and fixes the minimum amount of Con drain needed to revive him.
(2) GM: So he's at Con 1 for the moment.
(1) Kibin: (Ah.)
(2) GM: And ten minutes after ressurection, he drops dead all over again.
(3) Elorin: (hmm, as a dead creature, he's an object, which doesn't have constitution at all, so con drain is meaningless and should go away...)
(4) Katsuro: "Well...That was unpleasent."
(1) Kibin: (If he has over 100 HP that is. :P)
(4) Katsuro: (Er...I thought the resurection took longer than ten minutes?)
(3) Elorin: (huh?)
(2) GM: When the secondary effect hits, having not had a valid target immediately and been held in suspension.
(3) Elorin: (Um, wouldn't Jessie probably know at least something about this, as he's the one that came up with this potion in the first place?)
(2) GM: Jessie: It's a very, very nasty concoction. I did mention that, right? He died immediately; he will need the second revival.
(3) Elorin: (plus, I was going to cast Restoration pretty soon on both of them and that doesn't take 10 minutes)
(3) Elorin: (with just 1 con, I think I'd notice it was necessary immediately)
(2) GM: Ah, okay - so the Restoration first, and the secondary damage doesn't kill him.... provided you can remove more than 7 points of Con drain.
(3) Elorin: (Restoration gets ALL points of drain from a single ability score)
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Restoration ( level 4, "Restores level and ability score drains" )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Restoration ( level 4, "Restores level and ability score drains" )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) GM: Perfect.
** (4) Katsuro goes 'Urgh' in between the two spell. **
(4) Katsuro: * spells
(3) Elorin: (one of those was for Kibin)
(3) Elorin: (but I have just enough diamond dust for a third)
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Restoration ( level 4, "Restores level and ability score drains" )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) GM: And ten minutes later, the secondary damage hits, and Katsuro practically falls over again.
(4) Katsuro: "Thank you very much."
(2) GM: Which Elorin fixes.
(2) GM: Oh, and Kibin? HP lost to Con drain/damage come back with the lost con points.
(3) Elorin: ...and I need to go shopping
(3) Elorin: That just took the last of my diamond dust
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, editting.)
(1) Kibin: Thanks Elorin, back to my mostly old self now...
(3) Elorin: (5th time in the whole campaign I've had to cast that, and the first time since starting equipment that I've had to stock up on the component)
(2) GM: Kaylin: Bah! You're not that old. Why, I can remember when you hatched just a few short months ago.
(3) Elorin: (and it's about supper time for me)
** (1) Kibin sighs. "I didn't mean that way... and that's only if you count my age from then..." **
(2) GM: So, one shopping trip later, and we're down to a single True Ressurection in diamonds?
(3) Elorin: (two left, I think)
(2) GM: Okay.
(3) Elorin: (unless I missed something, my inventory is 12 diamonds)
(3) Elorin: (and yes, I did count off for Kaylin last session)
(2) GM: Okay.
(2) GM: So, does everyone wait around for Jason, or go skipping off to the mine?
(3) Elorin: (you can debate that while I go eat)
(1) Kibin: (Wait for Jason I suppose. "
(2) GM: And two days later, unless Katsuro has any particular objections, Jason reforms.
(4) Katsuro: (No particular objections.)
(2) GM: Jason: Wow... I never new I broke that many rules......
(2) GM: Jason: But then, I suppose just existing violates a couple of them.....
(1) Kibin: I'm pretty sure me existing after being killed multiple time breaks a few rules as well.
(2) GM: Jason: Yes, but you come back in full accordance with Magical Law. I ....
(4) Katsuro: "Depends on whos rules."
(2) GM: Jason stares off into space for a moment.
(2) GM: Jason: What were we talking about?
(2) GM: Jason pauses, then takes some time to find the gap in his neck.
(4) Katsuro: "The gems we have been sent to get can apparently be used to make whoever gets them immortal and powerfull. And to start something called 'The torment'. We've decided to smash, then return, them."
(2) GM: Jason, having found it after running his fingers over it a few times, stops.
(1) Kibin: I wonder how many other ghosts are out there with open-ended reasons for staying...
(2) GM: Jason: No, we were talking about death... and we started to go into how I come back. Why can't I remember? I know I come back....
(2) GM: Jason: Most of us are trapped, one way or another. That's why we're here. If our work could be easily completed, we would all be dead and gone.
(1) Kibin: You come back to make sure that noone is able to complete that ritual to turn themselves into that iron golem thingie.
(4) Katsuro: "...I sort of remember being resurected. Or at least, I remember a sudden pain and..."
(4) Katsuro: "...Maybe I don't?"
(2) GM: Jason: Few do.
(1) Kibin: ...yeah, apparently people don't remember being in the afterlife or whatever. Everything goes blank and then a while later, I wake up. Seems instant to me anyway.
(2) GM: Jason: Anyway.. shall we be off? I do take it you'll still want to find the gems in question.
(1) Kibin: I guess so... hopefully I won't die again in the process...
(4) Katsuro: "It was a lawfull sentence...And if the're smashed, they can't do any harm."
(4) Katsuro: "We do have to beware getting entangled."
(2) GM: Kaylin: All right. Everyone gather round for the 'port.....
** (4) Katsuro gathers round **
Kaylin casts Greater Teleport ( level 7, "Teleports without error." )
Kaylin can cast Greater Teleport 0 more times
(4) Katsuro: (Would swearing to make sure the gems will not be used for evil purposes be an appropriate oath?)
(2) GM: And one spell later, you're all standing at the entrance to a mine, which has been boarded over.
** (1) Kibin does so too. **
(2) GM: Maybe.
(1) Kibin: (...wouldn't all ghosts be lawful?)
(2) GM: The mine looks dark, and is surrounded by various vines and bushes that mostly conceal the entrance. It is, however, simple enough to find.
(4) Katsuro: (Hmm...Could be too short-term. Would adding 'No matter how long it takes' help?)
(2) GM: Fundamentally, a Ghost is bucking the Law of Death.
(1) Kibin: (Yes, but it does so in order to fulfill a very specific purpose, one which it will follow always. Or something like that anyway.)
(4) Katsuro: (A ghost returned by some divine order could be lawfull.)
(2) GM: That, and there's no listed alignment restriction on the template.....
(1) Kibin: (That's true, though.)
(1) Kibin: Onward?
(2) GM: A ghost returned by whim of a diety could also be a chaotic cleric.
(1) Kibin: We know the exact place the gems are...
(2) GM: So, who's Opening up the mine?
(4) Katsuro: (Er, my question?)
(2) GM: Possibly. But then, you're currently planning to destroy them, which is a farily simple method of insuring they aren't used for evil.
** (1) Kibin goes ahead and tears off the boards to the mines... **
(2) GM: They come away fairly readily; they've rotted somewhat, and mostly just served as a warning.
(4) Katsuro: (Yes, but then, they do have that ability to influence people. And destroying them may not be as simple as just shooting them.)
(2) GM: The gaping maw of the mine stands before you. The place looks fairly ordinary, for an abandoned mine; goes a little ways into the mountain, then drops down with an old rope and pully over the main shaft.
(1) Kibin: Anyone else want to take the lead? Fairly sure there's not going to be any traps in an old abandoned mine..
(4) Katsuro: "I thought the original thief was here?"
(2) GM: There's even what looks like a platform hooked up to the rope and pulley for standing on.
(1) Kibin: I'm pretty sure than some old miner wouldn't know how to trap the mines...
(4) Katsuro: "Of course not...Considering all his experience in making them."
(1) Kibin: Hmmm. I'll go ahead then...
** (1) Kibin goes further into the mines then, searching carefully for traps... **
(1) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [7,23] = (30)
(1) Kibin: (Or something like a rigged cavein or whatever...)
whispering to Kibin, You don't find anything, although the rope for the elevator isn't all visible, it looks sound enough.
(1) Kibin: ...so do you feel brave enough for the elevator?
(4) Katsuro: "We should probably test it first..."
** (4) Katsuro yanks on the rope. **
(4) Katsuro: (Just checking to see if it falls apart.)
(2) GM: Strength check?
(4) Katsuro: (Not using full strength.)
(4) Katsuro: [1d20+4] -> [7,4] = (11)
(2) GM: The rope holds.
(4) Katsuro: (Does it feel weak?)
(2) GM: It doesn't stretch under your hand.
(4) Katsuro: "I recommend one person at a time."
(4) Katsuro: "It doesn't feel weak, but it will have been here a while."
(1) Kibin: Katsuro, you're the only person who can't fly in some fashion...
(4) Katsuro: "...You guys go down first, then. That way, you can break my fall if the rope parts."
(2) GM: Jason: Okay.
(2) GM: Jason heads down the shaft.
(1) Kibin: ...yeah, Jason is pretty much all that's needed to break a fall...
** (1) Kibin jumps down the shaft, hovering just before he hits the ground. Wheeeeeeee! **
(2) GM: It's a very deep shaft. That'll take a while.
** (4) Katsuro starts heading down the elavator. **
(2) GM: Kaylin follows, after activating Shapechage and finding something boyant.
** (1) Kibin actually says "Wheeeeee!" as he starts falling down the shaft. Free fall is fun! **
(2) GM: After a bit, you find the indicated side-tunnel... which appears to be blocked by a wall of iron.
(2) GM: Kaylin: Not just a wall of iron, but a Wall of Iron.
(1) Kibin: The difference is...
(2) GM: Kaylin: Mostly academic. This is the result of a spell, not a smith.
(4) Katsuro: (Spell.)
(1) Kibin: Ah. Well, I'm not that good at breaking through metal..
(2) GM: Kaylin: Fine, I'll deal with it.
(2) GM: Kaylin changes into a Beholder, Disintigrates the door, and changes back.
(2) GM: It is, of course, utterly dark inside.
(2) GM: The place drips with moisture, and you briefly wonder why an unattended mine that is clearly very wet isn't full of water.
(1) Kibin: (Even to darkvision?)
(2) GM: No, and you basically all have that handy, so.....
(1) Kibin: I guess you want me to continue checking for traps... and of course be the first to know if there's anything... dangerous.
(4) Katsuro: "Well...It is sort of your job..."
(2) GM: Walking through the tunnel, searching as you go...
(1) Kibin: Right. I'll let you know if I find anything, as most of you can't see as far in the dark as me...
** (1) Kibin goes on, searching for traps. **
(1) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [10,23] = (33)
whispering to Kibin, You momentarily spy what looks like several elves with bows at the very edges of your 120 foot darkvision down side tunnels. They point at you. Roll for initiative.
whispering to GM, [1d20+2] -> [4,2] = (6)
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [11,3] = (14)
whispering to GM, They were nice about it and did so at an intersection such that they're on both sides of you.
(1) Kibin (whispering): Since when do elves have 120 foot darkvision? O.o
whispering to Kibin, And you get to go first. They're 115 feet away, either direction except straight.
(1) Kibin (whispering): They're down the side tunnels, not on the tunnel we're going through?
whispering to Kibin, Correct.
whispering to Kibin, You count eight of them.
(3) Elorin: (back)
(1) Kibin (whispering): Then I'll quickly move down the tunnel, pointing out the two of the side tunnels to my allies after out of sight of them...
(2) GM: Kibin quickly retreats back to join the main body of the party after coming to an intersection.
(1) Kibin (whispering): Wait. They're not following me? :P
(1) Kibin (whispering): I kind of meant continue ON down the tunnel...
whispering to Kibin, They're 115 feet away. It takes a while to traverse that much distance over a rough-rock mine tunnel. And they're kinda out of your line of sight....
(2) GM: Ah, sorry, he scuttles past the intersection and points at the two side tunnels.
(1) Kibin: Eight elves with bows in the side tunnels...
(4) Katsuro: "...What are they doing here?"
(1) Kibin: ...I don't know, I also don't know why they can see me when they're at the edge of my sight.
(4) Katsuro: "We could ask them."
(2) GM: So, how close is everyone standing to the intersection?
(1) Kibin: (Just enough to be out of sight of the elves)
(4) Katsuro: (Katsuro is standing where he stopped when kibin returned.)
(2) GM: So fairly close, then.
(2) GM: In your no-color darkvision, one of the elves steps out to where you can see, grins, and begins casting a spell...
(2) GM: Roll vs. Initiative.
(2) GM: [1d20+2] -> [7,2] = (9)
(4) Katsuro: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [7,5] = (12)
** (1) Kibin blinks again, wondering how they could move that far so quickly... **
(4) Katsuro: "Er...Hello?"
(2) GM: Dex check: [1d20+2] -> [8,2] = (10)
(2) GM: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [20,6] = (26)
(2) GM: Dex check: [1d20+5] -> [16,5] = (21)
(3) Elorin: Dex check: [1d20+6] -> [13,6] = (19)
(2) GM: Kibin? Initiative?
(1) Kibin: Dex check: [1d20+3] -> [11,3] = (14)
(2) GM: Jason, Elorin, Kibin, Katsuro, Kaylin, Elves
(2) GM: Jason, seeing Katsuro start a peaceful gesture, holds off a bit.
(2) GM: Elorin?
(2) GM: By the way, do you have any Darkvision?
(2) GM: Okay, my router works....
(3) Elorin: (Goggles of the Night)
(2) GM: So 60 feet of it.
(3) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+22] -> [11,22] = (33)
(2) GM: The mine shaft, where you're standing, is about ten feet wide and ten feet tall, although it is curved a bit.
whispering to Elorin, He'll be casting Tiny Hut on his turn.
whispering to GM, Although it looks like he may have a different version than the one you're familiar with. It looks... smaller?
(1) Kibin: (Holy word, perhaps?)
** (3) Elorin delays **
(2) GM: Kibin?
whispering to GM, [1d4-1] -> [3,-1] = (2)
** (1) Kibin delays attacking for now, asking the elf with a lot of social grace, "Hello, we do not wish to fight you if possible." **
(2) GM: Oh, and what language?
(2) GM: Kibin? What language are you using?
(1) Kibin: (Um... common?)
(2) GM: And Katsuro's turn.
(1) Kibin: (No tensing up whatsoever, because as a result of rogue training I can dodge stuff just fine while flatfooted.)
** (4) Katsuro holds off attacking for now. **
(4) Katsuro: "Not looking for a fight."
(2) GM: Delaying like everyone else?
(1) Kibin: (Yeah, I suppose so.)
(2) GM: Kaylin follows suit, and the elf casts his spell....
(2) GM: Causing an opaque wall to surround the intersection.
whispering to Kibin, Although your Blindsense goes right through it, your darkvision does not.
** (3) Elorin suspects these are drow OOC, but can't tell without color vision, Tiny Hut is defensive, and Katsuro started trying to talk **
whispering to Kibin, A moment latter, nine arrows streak out of the wall at you in three tightly shaped volleys: [1d20+14] -> [2,14] = (16) for [3d10+9] -> [3,3,5,9] = (20), [1d20+14] -> [4,14] = (18) for [3d10+9] -> [5,1,10,9] = (25), [1d20+14] -> [13,14] = (27) for [3d10+9] -> [5,8,8,9] = (30),
whispering to Kibin, None of them hit.
(2) GM: You hear some tinks of metal on rock through the opaque wall.
(2) GM: Anyone taking a delayed action?
(3) Elorin: Spellcraft Skill Check: [1d20+22] -> [3,22] = (25)
(2) GM: What information are you looking for?
(1) Kibin (whispering): I would.... go through the wall and attack the elf...
(3) Elorin: (does it sound like part of spellcasting?)
(3) Elorin: (and what spell, if so)
(2) GM: No, not a verbal component. Sounds more like arrows striking rock.
whispering to Kibin, You find that there's no room on the other side of the wall; make your attack rolls vs. total concealment.
whispering to Kibin, Sneak attack obviously doesn't apply.
(3) Elorin: Int check: [1d20+0] -> [17,0] = (17)
(3) Elorin: (why would they be sticking arrows in rock?)
(1) Kibin: Bite (base): [1d20+25] -> [10,25] = (35) ===> Damage: [1d6+6] -> [3,6] = (9)
(1) Kibin: Claws (base): [1d20+23] -> [3,23] = (26) ===> Damage: [1d4+5] -> [3,5] = (8)
(1) Kibin: Claws (base): [1d20+23] -> [4,23] = (27) ===> Damage: [1d4+5] -> [2,5] = (7)
(3) Elorin: (I know some archers plant their arrows in the ground in front for quicker access, but it's just as easy to draw from a quiver in D&D)
(2) GM: Miss chances: 50 or less fails: [3d100] -> [16,83,72] = (171)
(2) GM: You hear two muffled grunts of pain from the other side of the opaque wall.
(2) GM: Striking rock at speed - as though they were fired and missed.
(4) Katsuro: (Er, why is Kibin attacking?)
(3) Elorin: (fired at us?)
(1) Kibin: (Gosh you people are clueless.)
(2) GM: No arows exited your side of the wall.
(2) GM: Anyone other than Kibin doing something other than delaying?
(3) Elorin: (sounds to me like someone else is attacking them, Kibin)
(1) Kibin: (...what, am I freaking invisible or something when I move around? I'm on the other side of the wall. :P)
(2) GM: Essentially, yes; they're looking at an opaque wall. You're looking at an opaque wall, too.
(3) Elorin: (I missed that)
** (4) Katsuro tries to disbelieve the illusion? **
(4) Katsuro: Will save: [1d20+9] -> [1,9] = (10)
(2) GM: Not an illusion. Not that it matters.
(2) GM: "Causing an opaque wall to surround the intersection" It's up there.
(2) GM: So, is anyone other than Kibin taking a delayed action?
** (3) Elorin activates Haste boots, and tries to move through the wall **
(3) Elorin: (actually, scratch the Haste, I'll use my fly speed)
(2) GM: You find that there's an elf just on the other side of the wall; are you going to try for an overrun, or are you stopping as the square is occupied?
** (4) Katsuro whacks the wall with my greatsword. **
(2) GM: Which would, incidentally, leave you on the opaque side.
(2) GM: Elorin declared first; he resolves first.
** (3) Elorin stops **
(2) GM: Elorin? You can't move into an occupied space normally; attempting an Ovverrun, or stopping? Or going above?
(2) GM: Okay.
(3) Elorin: (oh, right, the cieling is 10 feet high)
(3) Elorin: (go above)
(1) Kibin: (Combat moves slow. :P)
(3) Elorin: (part of that pause was me looking up Overrun)
whispering to Elorin, Passing the wall, you find you can see out easily; there's four elves inside the intersection, all armed, with two waiting on either side-corridor. One of the ones nearest Kibin is bleeding, and there's blood on Kibin's claws. You still have a standard action left.
(3) Elorin (whispering): does it look like they were shooting at Kibin?
whispering to Katsuro, Elorin flies right through the opaque wall as though it wasn't there.
whispering to Elorin, It looks like they recently fired bows in that direction.
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Holy Word ( level 7, "Kills, paralyzes, blinds, or deafens nongood subjects." )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 7 Spell ( level 7, "Spell slot tracking device" )
whispering to Elorin, Hard to tell exactly, though;l you don't see anything else they could be shooting at.
(3) Elorin: (caster level 20)
(2) GM: Make eight SR penetration checks.
(3) Elorin: [1d20+20] -> [11,20] = (31)
(3) Elorin: [1d20+20] -> [12,20] = (32)
(3) Elorin: [1d20+20] -> [4,20] = (24)
(3) Elorin: [1d20+20] -> [2,20] = (22)
(3) Elorin: [1d20+20] -> [15,20] = (35)
(3) Elorin: [1d20+20] -> [6,20] = (26)
(3) Elorin: [1d20+20] -> [7,20] = (27)
(3) Elorin: [1d20+20] -> [1,20] = (21)
(1) Kibin: (Hey.... how come blasphemy is the only one that stuns?!?)
(1) Kibin: (Dazed, technically...)
(2) GM: That's Daze, actually; merely denies action, while Stunning causes you to drop your stuff. And even then, that's only matters at the least affected level.
(2) GM: Apparently, Evil is just that spectacular.
whispering to Elorin, Three of them just grin at you, the others stop moving.
whispering to Elorin, Durations aren't going to matter overly much.
(2) GM: And Katsuro - are you going to attack the wall itself, or something on the other side?
(3) Elorin: (I have just demonstrated that the wall is not solid)
(2) GM: Katsuro?
(2) GM: Okay, I guess Katsuro delays.
(2) GM: My connection's working....
(4) Katsuro: (Had to answer the phone.)
** (4) Katsuro walks through the wall. **
whispering to Katsuro, And finds that he can't easily do so, as the square is occupied. Attempinting to push your way past (ovverrun)?
(2) GM: Do note that an overrun attempt costs your standard action.
(1) Kibin: (This is a 10 foot wide corridor, right?)
(4) Katsuro: (In that case, I try to find a square that isn't occupied.)
(1) Kibin: (What prevents sidestepping diagonally?)
(2) GM: Which puts you on the opaque side of the wall. In other words, you stop.
(2) GM: The fact that there's eight of them, blocking the side corridors via diagonal movement.
(1) Kibin: (Ah.)
(4) Katsuro: (Do nothing for now, then.)
(1) Kibin: (You do realize you can attack people that have total concealment, right...)
(2) GM: Yeah. There's just a 50% miss chance.
(2) GM: Anyway...
(4) Katsuro: Greatsword Attack Roll: [1d20+24] -> [6,24] = (30) ===> Damage: [2d6+5+1d6+1d6+4] -> [1,1,5,3,1,4] = (15)
(4) Katsuro: Greatsword Attack Roll: [1d20+19] -> [4,19] = (23) ===> Damage: [2d6+5+1d6+1d6+4] -> [1,1,5,1,3,4] = (15)
(4) Katsuro: Greatsword Attack Roll: [1d20+14] -> [13,14] = (27) ===> Damage: [2d6+5+1d6+1d6+4] -> [4,4,5,2,3,4] = (22)
(2) GM: 50 or less messes: [3d100] -> [55,12,42] = (109)
(2) GM: One hit, and you hear feel your steel pass through flesh and armor....
(2) GM: Kaylin, seeing everyone else join in the fray...
Kaylin casts Fire Shield ( level 4, "A shield of fire protects you and damages attackers." )
Kaylin can cast Fire Shield 0 more times
Kaylin casts Scorching Ray, Quickened ( level 6, "Fiery rays deal 4d6 each at a range of 25 + 5/2 levels (ranged touch, 3 rays)" )
Kaylin can cast Scorching Ray, Quickened 2 more times
(2) GM: Ranged Touch Attack Roll: [1d20+11] -> [16,11] = (27)===> DMG: [0+0] -> 0
###> Ranged Touch Attack Roll: [1d20+6] -> [2,6] = (8)===> DMG: [0+0] -> 0
(2) GM: Ranged Touch Attack Roll: [1d20+11] -> [7,11] = (18)===> DMG: [0+0] -> 0
###> Ranged Touch Attack Roll: [1d20+6] -> [9,6] = (15)===> DMG: [0+0] -> 0

###> Ranged Touch Attack Roll: [1d20+6] -> [7,6] = (13)===> DMG: [0+0] -> 0
(2) GM: [3d100] -> [100,96,55] = (251)
(2) GM: With a potential crit: [1d20+11] -> [16,11] = (27)
(3) Elorin: (SR)
(2) GM: Which crits, for a grand total of [16d6] -> [1,4,6,5,2,4,1,4,4,2,6,1,4,3,4,6] = (57) if she passes the SR check: [1d20+6+18] -> [15,6,18] = (39)
(2) GM: Which she does.
(1) Kibin: (O.o)
(2) GM: Jason charges in.... and tries to grab someone that seems to be moving.
(2) GM: Ghost Malevolence: Will Save DC 26 (15 + Ghost's Cha modifier) or possess subject
(2) GM: [1d20+9] -> [16,9] = (25)
(2) GM: And one of the elves is Jason's.
(3) Elorin: (so close, and yet so far)
(2) GM: Yep.
(2) GM: And it's the elves turn again.
(2) GM: The two that remain active run away down the side corridor, knocking aside their paralized companions.
(2) GM: Anyone chasing?
(2) GM: They're going in opposite directions.
(1) Kibin: (Nah. :P)
(3) Elorin: (maybe, but first)
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Daylight ( level 3, "60-ft. radius of bright light" )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 3 Spell ( level 3, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(4) Katsuro: (Nah)
(2) GM: Jason's Elf: Yeah! Turn it off! Turn it off!
(2) GM: Jason's Elf: Man this thing has sensitive eyes.
(1) Kibin: Much like kobolds, yes.
(3) Elorin: (I recognize them as drow, I assume?)
(1) Kibin: Guess that's what happens when you stay underground for most your life.
(2) GM: In good light, yes.
(3) Elorin: (so, just how bad is the racial hatred between surface elves and drow in this world?)
(2) GM: Yeah, but we still have to figure out what to do with them all.... we've got six here....
(2) GM: Unspecified; how bad do you want it to be?
(4) Katsuro: (I need to BRB)
(3) Elorin: (no particular preference, just that if it's bad enough I'll instantly take off at full speed in pursuit of one after yelling DROW! to let Kaylin know)
(2) GM: Well, you're the first to encounter it; choose.
(2) GM: And you're an elf, so it's appropriet, no?
(3) Elorin: (hmm, hostile but not kill-on-sight, I think)
(3) Elorin: (not on the surface elves part, anyway)
(2) GM: Okay.
(2) GM: So the two drow who managed to flee escape, then.
** (3) Elorin lands **
(2) GM: Jason's Drow: Black eleves?
(2) GM: Jason's Drow: What? I thought you were all fair-skinned?
(1) Kibin: (What knowledge check to know about drow?)
(3) Elorin: Drow. Almost all evil, live deep underground practically all their lives.
(2) GM: Local is closest.
(1) Kibin: (Nah, they're all chaotic good.)
(2) GM: As they're Humanoids.
(3) Elorin: (I'm assuming this is something all elves learn as part of growing up)
(1) Kibin: Knowledge: Local Skill Check: [1d20+5] -> [18,5] = (23)
(2) GM: That much, yeah; if you're trying to get into "sr" or what they're good at, or what weapons they often use.....
(3) Elorin: The world would probably be better off if they became extinct, but there's always the possibility of exceptions to the general mold.
whispering to Kibin, Elorin's got it right; tend to be resistant to spells, unusually strong of will, perfectly at home in the darkness.
(3) Elorin: Judging from the effect of Holy Word on this bunch, though, they're typical specimens of the race.
(1) Kibin: They're also resistant to spells...
(2) GM: Jason's Drow: So, what do we do with them? Ask what they're doing down here?
** (1) Kibin tips a random drow over. Bweeheehee, that's fun... hmmm... He asks Jason, "You weren't affected by that holy word thing?" **
(3) Elorin: Tie them up before the paralysis wears off
(2) GM: Jason's Drow: Well, this one seemed resistant. Why would it?
(2) GM: Jason's Drow: Anyone got a rope?
(1) Kibin: I meant you in particular, not the drow...
(3) Elorin: 100 feet of it
(2) GM: Jason: Care to do the honors? Or would you prefer Kibin try his hand?
** (3) Elorin gets out his rope **
(3) Elorin: You any good at this, Kibin?
(3) Elorin: (any ranks in Use Rope?)
(2) GM: [1d10] -> [10] = (10)
(1) Kibin: Um...
(1) Kibin: No, not really.
(2) GM: Jason's Drow: Well, this form seems fairly dextrous......
(3) Elorin: As for that one, it's possible he is an exception. It's also possible he is somehow resistant to spells similar to how some monsters we've encountered are.
** (3) Elorin starts tying up drow **
(2) GM: And a while later, they start stirring.
(1) Kibin: (After they're all tied up?)
(2) GM: Correct.
(2) GM: Rolled 10 minutes when a duration of more than one minute became meaningful.
(2) GM: Those paralized were paralized for a good long while.
(1) Kibin: Do any of them know common?
(2) GM: Each of them are wearing breastplates, cloaks, and have a rapier in addition to their bows. They each carry several arrows.
(2) GM: Drow: Yeah, I learned the stupid surface-language.
(2) GM: Drow: Required.
(2) GM: Drow (in elven): As is your language, pathetic surface dweller.
(3) Elorin: Riiiight, pathetic... You're the one that's tied up despite having superior numbers.
(2) GM: Drow: Details. So, what happens next?
(1) Kibin (whispering): Hey... do I know that Drow speak undercommon?
whispering to Kibin, Not specifically; your roll wasn't high enough for more than three useful bits of info; but if you actually know undercommon, you'd know it's a very common language undergournd. And you do know it, from your start as a Kobold, don't you?
(1) Kibin (whispering): Yup.
(2) GM: The Drow start talking to each other in undercommon.
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Tongues ( level 4, "Speak any language" )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 4 Spell ( level 4, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) GM: Drow(Undercommon): So, you think you can get out of these ropes?
(2) GM: Other Drow: Don't bother; I recognize that spell......
(1) Kibin: You should probably know that I can understand undercommon just fine...
(3) Elorin: (Undercommon) I wouldn't recommend trying.
(2) GM: Dirnner; back in about half an hour or an hour.
(2) GM:

(4) Katsuro: (This looks about like a good stopping point anyway.)
(1) Kibin: (Nooooooooo!)
(2) GM: Hmm... that was yummy.
(2) GM: Huh; normally I come back to a 40+ line conversation....
(1) Kibin: (Heh.)
(3) Elorin: (we decided to surprise you this time :P)
(2) GM: Katsuro online?
(3) Elorin: (without actually discussing it, heh)
(2) GM: Well, I don't pick up whispered conversations.
(1) Kibin: (He's online I think.)
(3) Elorin: (I was sort of joking)
(4) Katsuro: (Online.)
(2) GM: All right then.

(3) Elorin: (unless Katsuro and Kibin talked while I wasn't looking, we didn't even whisper each other)
(2) GM: Drow: Of course. Can't really expect surfacers to be quite stupid enough as to come into our homes without knowing the language, can we?
(1) Kibin: (Undercommon) Undercommon is actually a fairly common language underground, which is why I know it. Without the aid of any spells, that is...
(2) GM: Drow (undercommon): Well, you had to pick it up somewhere. Not that it matters too much.
(2) GM: Other Drow: Of course it matters. They got us fair and square.
(2) GM: Third Drow: You think they'll be as bad as the matrons?
(1) Kibin: Knowledge: Local Skill Check: [1d20+5] -> [10,5] = (15)
(2) GM: Fourth Drow: Don't even think such things! The matrons are the source of life!
(1) Kibin: (To know what the heck they're talking about?)
(3) Elorin: Do you always attack people without provocation?
(3) Elorin: When you encounter a group exploring down here?
whispering to Kibin, Drow society is matriachal. Women rule. Drow ladies tend to be quite cruel.
(2) GM: Drow: Only when we're on patrol with orders to kill anything out of the ordinary.
(2) GM: Other Drow: And when it's funny.
(4) Katsuro: "Well, we're a perfectly ordinary adventuring party.
(2) GM: Third Drow: When isn't it?
(4) Katsuro: * "
(2) GM: Fourth Drow: Now?
(2) GM: Drow: Right.
(1) Kibin: Hehe. Was kind of funny to watch you miss me. Well... miss my vital areas then...
(2) GM: Other Drow: Ordinary? A ghost, a dragon, two elves, and a human walk into a mine where nobody's walked out of in centuries...
(2) GM: Third Drow: Do I know this joke?
(2) GM: Fourth Drow: Three years. One filthy human managed to escape three years ago. I still have the scars on my back from that one.
(1) Kibin: Are you the only people that are actually killing things down here?
(2) GM: Fifth: Usually. We try to keep people away from the thing that keeps cooing over a bunch of rocks. Not that it usually matters.
(2) GM: First: Have you seen those rocks?
(4) Katsuro: "Why?"
(1) Kibin: Not particually, we're just here to smash those particular rocks so they won't bother anyone else...
(2) GM: Second: Oh, no reason.
(2) GM: The third grins slighly.
(3) Elorin: Sense Motive Skill Check: [1d20+11] -> [17,11] = (28)
(1) Kibin: Sense Motive Skill Check: [1d20+16] -> [17,16] = (33)
(2) GM: Third: I think I have heard this joke.....
whispering to Kibin, Elorin, The thing they try to keep people away from usually does their job for them.
(4) Katsuro: "Two drow walk into a bar...Guess they lowered it."
(1) Kibin: (That's actually a pretty good joke.)
(2) GM: Fourth: A bar would need to be pretty low for us to deign patronage.
(2) GM: Fifth: You didn't get it, clearly. Still, I can wait for the punch line on the adventurer joke.
(3) Elorin: How many more of you are we likely to encounter down here?
(2) GM: First: Yes, it is smashing, isn't it?
(1) Kibin: So the person cooing over those rocks is particually dangerous, yes, we get it...
(2) GM: Third: Huh?
(2) GM: Second: What person?
(1) Kibin: Or whatever you're keeping us away from. Hmmm.
(2) GM: Fourth: Oh, you aren't likely to encounter any more of us.
(3) Elorin: Sense Motive Skill Check: [1d20+11] -> [10,11] = (21)
(1) Kibin: Sense Motive Skill Check: [1d20+16] -> [17,16] = (33)
(1) Kibin: (Yay random sense motive checks!)
whispering to Elorin, He's being deceptive, but he isn't lying.
whispering to Kibin, He's thinking those who ran might report back somewhere....
(3) Elorin: And what other hazards wander these tunnels? Or just stay in place?
(2) GM: Fifth: Umm... you? For the most part, we keep the hazards down rather effectively.
(1) Kibin: Hmmm... we should probably get going before more of them come...
(2) GM: First: What part of "patrol" didn't you understand?
(2) GM: Second: Stupid surface dwellers.....
(1) Kibin: Personally, we could care less about you... we're just here for another thing, then we'll be out for good.
(2) GM: Third: More raiders?
(2) GM: Fourth: Clearly. They come, they take something, they leave.
(2) GM: Fifth: Typical.
(2) GM: First: On the plus side, it's a tried and true tactic.
(1) Kibin: Uh... no, actually, we're here to destroy a potentionally dangerous thing here that has nothing to do with you at all.
(2) GM: Second: Oh? What are you planning on destroying.
(1) Kibin: Ah, good old interrogation technique by casual conversation...
(2) GM: Third: So... you invade our turf, just to get something we've got, and it has nothing to do with us?
(2) GM: Fourth: Meh, they don't pay us enough to worry about letting out minor stuff to people that are probably dead anyway.
(1) Kibin: Pretty much, yeah. We just want the guy cooing over rocks.
(2) GM: Fifth: Since when did they pay us?
(1) Kibin: I've died several times, more that I've bothered to count...
(2) GM: Fourth: Exactly.
(2) GM: First: So it's male then? I was wondering. Good to know.
(1) Kibin: I'm using guy as a neutral gender word, mind you...
(2) GM: First: Oh.
(2) GM: Second: To be fair, one of the matriarchs did let slip when I was in range that it was a human when it came in.....
(2) GM: Third: Have you SEEN that thing?
** (1) Kibin goes ahead and sits down, since he's probably going to stay here a while... **
(2) GM: Fourth: No way was that ever human.
(2) GM: Second: I swear! She was going over how using a pathetic human to retreive the artifact backfired so horribly.
(1) Kibin: It's probably the old miner that found them in the first place that somehow got corrupted by them...
(2) GM: Fifth: Wait... were you off duty at the time?
(3) Elorin: (the problem with taking prisoners: what to do with them when you're done. I'd have no trouble at all killing them in battle, but they haven't done anything that I'm aware of to deserve execution in cold blood)
(2) GM: Second: Yeah.....
(2) GM: Third: So you were drunk, right?
(4) Katsuro: (Katsuro would have a problem with execution in cold blood.)
(2) GM: Second: So?
(1) Kibin: (Actually it's quite amusing to hear prisoners talk.)
(2) GM: First: Okay, it's agreed then, never human.
(2) GM: Third: Right.
(2) GM: Fourth: Right.
(2) GM: Fifth: Makes sense.
(2) GM: Second: Huh?
(2) GM: Second: But I heard it.....
(2) GM: (Mostly, I get bored, and use multiple avialable mouthpieces to fill space; feel free to move on whenever you're so inclined.)
(2) GM: So, did you tie up Jason's drow at the same time?
(4) Katsuro: (This is interesting...And my brain is getting tired.)
(3) Elorin: Bah, it doesn't seem worth the bother of killing you bunch, but it wouldn't do to have you still around and dangerous while we finish what we're here for.
(1) Kibin: Hehe.... they dangerous?
(2) GM: First: Hang on... why didn't they tie up Z'dritz?
(1) Kibin: Their arrows don't do much against me...
(2) GM: Second: We've been betrayed!
(3) Elorin: (theoretically...)
(1) Kibin: (O.o)
(2) GM: Third: Hmm.... where'd the ghost go?
(2) GM: Fourth: Ah, yes, that explains it.
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Detect Magic ( level 0, "Detects spells and magic items within 60 ft." )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 0 Spell ( level 0, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(4) Katsuro: "He's not that bright, is he?"
(3) Elorin: (they don't all have dual scimitars, do they? :P)
whispering to Elorin, Lots of Magic. Each drow has overlapping auras; it's hard to tell what is and isn't magical.
(4) Katsuro: (Rapiers)
(4) Katsuro: (...And that is a bad pun.)
(2) GM: Second: What? I'm just a bit hung over. It's not too bad...
(2) GM: Second: Besides, the beer helps numb the whippings......
(2) GM: Thrid: Really?
(1) Kibin: Don't think I've ever been drunk, so can't really relate...
(2) GM: Fourth: It would, but it would make them more common, too.....
(2) GM: Third: Ah. Not worth it, then.
(1) Kibin: Ahem... you could rise up against the people who whip you...
(2) GM: Fifth: Doesn't work. They just call down divine fire on our heads.
(2) GM: First: Then raise our corpses.
(2) GM: Second: Well.. not MINE.
(1) Kibin: Your society is run by women, right? Without you, they can't make any more of the race, thus to survive, they have to keep at least SOME of you allive...
(2) GM: Third: Right - divine fire plus you when not in a normal military situation means lots and lots of fire....
(2) GM: Second: That's not what I meant...
(2) GM: Fourth: How much booze do you carry when off duty?
(3) Elorin: Somewhat well equipped, I see. (to the party) Perhaps we could set them loose after taking some of it as punishment.
(2) GM: Second: Oh, only about three or four gallons of the hard stuff......
(2) GM: Five: Yep, no body from you.
(1) Kibin: ...so tempted to become a pyromaniac...
** (3) Elorin starts stripping them of obvious weaponry **
(4) Katsuro: "...No, Kibin, you cannot be a red dragon."
(4) Katsuro: "Don't forget the unobvious weaponry."
(3) Elorin: Kibin, could you search them for hidden weapons please?
(2) GM: Kaylin: Well, he could... it'd just take a while, and a very big diamond.....
(1) Kibin: Ah... right... okay...
(1) Kibin: Search Skill Check: [1d20+23] -> [16,23] = (39)
** (1) Kibin does so, then... as well as anything else of value. **
(1) Kibin: (To search for anything else of value that is.)
(4) Katsuro: "...I wasn't speaking of the practicality."
whispering to Kibin, Each carries a small vial of something unlabeled, as well as a rapier, a breastplate, which appears to be mithral, a bow, some arrows, and a cloak. Everything appears to be finely made.
(3) Elorin: Gold dragon would work just as well for fire, though
(2) GM: Kaylin: Would you prefer a brass ora gold?
(1) Kibin: Haha...
whispering to Kibin, No cash on any of them.
(3) Elorin: (or just take levels in the Pyrokineticist class)
** (1) Kibin takes the valuable stuff on the drow, and puts them all in a pile... he hmmms, asking the drow, "Any particular reason you're not carrying any gold on you?" **
(2) GM: First: We're not issued any gold for patrol.
(2) GM: Second: What little we get we have to spend on booze!
(2) GM: Third: Well, you, maybe. The rest of us just leave it with some of our more trustworthy bretheran off duty.
(1) Kibin: Ah right, the whole how your society functions thing...
(4) Katsuro: "...You have those?"
(2) GM: First: Look, just because someone would as soon kill you as look at you doesn't mean you can't trust him to hold your wallet.
(3) Elorin: There are all sorts of benefits someone with a reputation for being trustworthy with money can get.
(3) Elorin: And you generally actually have to be trustworthy with it to get that reputation.
(1) Kibin: Or just manage to be convincing enough...
(4) Katsuro: "...Somehow, the world is both stranger and a little more normal."
(3) Elorin: (did the "valuables" Kibin took include magic items?)
(1) Kibin: Which certain people, myself included, are very good at being...
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Detect Magic ( level 0, "Detects spells and magic items within 60 ft." )
(3) Elorin: Elorin casts Level 0 Spell ( level 0, "Spell slot tracking device" )
(2) GM: After he took the cloaks, breastplates, vials, rapiers, bows, and arrows....
whispering to Elorin, the pile glows, the drow don't.
(3) Elorin: (right)
(4) Katsuro: (left)
(1) Kibin: (undecided)
(2) GM: (Up)
(3) Elorin: Okay, I don't think my pack can hold all that
(1) Kibin: You mean the stuff I got?
(3) Elorin: (ah the problems of having a language where the same word can mean different things)
(2) GM: Second: Um.... we kinda need those.....
(3) Elorin: You did say you keep the hazards around here down, didn't you?
(2) GM: First: Down, yes.... but not out.
(2) GM: Second: Well.. I'm a little more worried how the matrons will react to us coming back without them.....
(2) GM: Third: Right.
(2) GM: Fourth: True.
(2) GM: Fifth: Do we have to?
(2) GM: Second: Huh?
(2) GM: Fifth: Go back.
(1) Kibin: You could just not go back down there, go to the 'stupid' surface world, and not have to listen to them...
(2) GM: Second: ... I don't get it......
(1) Kibin: (Become chaotic good! Break yourself of the tyranny!)
(1) Kibin: You know... go out of here, actually go explore the world, not listen to those matriachs...
(3) Elorin: (heh, I was just thinking "if only I had some daggers to hand out - not exactly threatening to us, but might help against things they encounter on the way back to town", and I checked my inventory and there they are - 5 ordinary daggers)
(2) GM: Third: Hmm... but the others might report....
(2) GM: Fifth: That we were paralized with a bunch of hostile invaders about?
(1) Kibin: And do what?
(1) Kibin: We're not actually hostile again...
(2) GM: Fourth: You were when the others fled....
(2) GM: Fifth: We'd need to leave a bloody mess behind, though, to make it perfect......
(2) GM: First: I know where we can get a few beasts that will cover that.....
(2) GM: Second: Wait... what are you guys contemplating?
(2) GM: Third: Nothing. Nothing at all.....
(2) GM: Jason's Drow: So what do we do with this one?
(1) Kibin: Tie him up too? I think you've possessed him long enough...
(2) GM: Jason's Drow: Works for me. Elorin?
** (3) Elorin ties him up after his gear is in the pile **
(2) GM: Jason steps out of the drow.
(2) GM: Sixth: Whoa... how'd I get here?
(3) Elorin: (to Kibin) Could you shove that in your portable hole?
(1) Kibin: Yeah, after all, it can hold a miniature mountain of gold...
(2) GM: First: So, we decided?
(2) GM: Third? I think so.
(2) GM: Fourth: Yep.
** (1) Kibin folds out his portable hole, pushing the stuff in the portable hole, then folding it back up. **
(2) GM: Fifth: Definately know what to do.
(2) GM: Sixth: Huh?
(2) GM: Second: I don't get it....
(2) GM: First: Think it will be enough to be convincing?
(1) Kibin: I'm thinking it has something to do with calling some type of beast over here...
(2) GM: Third: Should be sufficient.
(2) GM: Fourth: Yeah, two will be enough, I imagine.
(1) Kibin: Or killing two of the drow here. Not sure.
(3) Elorin: You bunch can explain things to him, I don't much care to. If you need something to fight with I don't think these 5 daggers would give you any ideas about coming back for us again.
(2) GM: First: I think five daggers will be more than enough.
** (3) Elorin starts untying the drow one at a time, keeping careful watch on them **
(1) Kibin: How about we simply escort them to the surface...
(2) GM: Three, four, and five grin.
(3) Elorin: I don't want to see any of you again soon
(2) GM: Fourth: You won't.
(2) GM: Fifth: If nothing else, we can see you before you can see us, usually.
(1) Kibin: Except in my case, apparently a dragon's darkvision is as good as yours...
(2) GM: First: Well, if it weren't for that overly bright light....
(2) GM: Second: What? Sure, it hurts.... but when he's got it on, we can see him from a LOT farther away....
(2) GM: Sixth: True. It's a dead giveaway down here.
(2) GM: Third: Dragons have always been a law unto themselves. Thanks for the daggers, by the way.
(3) Elorin: Thank you for reminding me. I've seen everything in color I need to.
** (3) Elorin dismisses Daylight **
(3) Elorin: Now get going
(2) GM: First: Ah, good; much better.
(2) GM: Four of them grin at each other as they walk out of range.
(2) GM: A short while later, you hear a pair of screams cut off in a gurgle....
** (1) Kibin sighs. **
** (3) Elorin shakes his head at the bloodthirsty nature of drow society **
(3) Elorin: (oh well, not my mission to reform the whole race or try to enforce my notion of justice on them)
(1) Kibin: So... onward?
(2) GM: (Yeah, you're just responsible for releasing six... er, four... of the sociopaths on society at large)
(2) GM: Anyway......
(1) Kibin: (Stopping point?)
(2) GM: Okay.
(4) Katsuro: (Ok.)
(3) Elorin: (if they go back to their own society, it won't much change anything. If they go on the surface, they'll be rather carefully watched just for what race they are_
(4) Katsuro: (You know, you could have cast geas on them....Although it's kinda late to say that.)
(2) GM: (Unless they learn Wizardry - Disguise Self is a 1st level spell, and it is their favored class.....)
(3) Elorin: (I suppose I could have with Miracle, but open-ended stuff like "be a good guy" doesn't last all that long)
(2) GM: Anyway, when Kibin suggests a stopping point, it's probably a good one.
(2) GM:

(2) GM: "see" you all in two weeks?
Server Administrator-> Closing Server.....
(3) Elorin: (So they can have 10 minutes/wizard level of being disguised.)
(1) Kibin: (Stopping point here because I have to sleep now.)
(1) Kibin: (*poofs*)
** (1) Kibin found the F4 macro key **
(1) Kibin: Ooo, pretty button...
(1) Kibin (exit): 20:03
Game disconnected!
(2) GM: [1d12] -> [4] = (4)
