Operation Kingbee was the usage of helicopters of the 83rd Special Operations Group (SOG) of
the Vietnamese National Air Force (South Vietnamese Air Force; VNAF) to support US forces
clandestinely operating in Laos and Cambodia. The South Vietnamese military was often heavily
implicated politically in coups and coup attempts and elite units often generated greater
suspicion. The 83rd SOG was eventually disbanded, but the 219th Helicopter Squadron continued
the Kingbee mission.

Technically the 83rd SOG operated H-34s after they had largely been replaced in the VNAF, and
did not switch over to the UH-1H until the creation of the 219th Helicopter Squadron. This means
that the UH-1H is available for this formation close to a year before it was historically
because of the unit class.
