Organized in response to the February, 1968 "Tet Offensive,"
the People's Self-Defense Force (PSDF) was designed to involve
almost all villagers in the fight against Communist infiltration.

The basic unit of action for the PSDF was the 3-man cell, organized
into 14-man teams, 3 of which made up an inter-team, 3 of which
made up a complete PSDF Group. PSDF's were notably under-equipped
with weapons being on rotation around actively engaged members to
stop pilfering.
