Bomb The Reactor*
*
Date: June 21, 2007*
*
Battle Location: Covert nuclear reactor, near Darkhovin, central Kuzhestan*
*
Battle Type: Israel assault vs. Iran defense*
*
Scenario description: While the official nuclear power plant project in Bushehr appeared to be lagging due to disagreements between the Iranian authorities and the Russian contractor, Israeli intel reported that a covert heavy-water reactor was nearing completion near Darkhovin, near the Iraqi border.*
This discovery had followed weeks of political provocations, cross-border raids, bombings of Israeli and UNIFIL checkpoints, and up to rocket attacks and kidnapping raids deep into the Israeli territory.*
Wishing to strike a blow and given more leeway than ever previously by the Knesset, the IDF decided for a decisive blow to Tehran's most vaunted dissuasion weapon: their covert nuclear program.*
The strike had to be fast and clean, leaving few enough traces for the government to officially deny any war action, and obvious enough to keep the Iranian regime on their toes (and hopefully obvious enough for the Iranian populaiton to notice that the nuclear program wasn't safe from external action, that the feared Pasdaran had been unable to prevent the attack, and that the mullahs could be deprived from their most obvious propaganda machines at a whim and let hanging from a thread.)*
A composite force of airborne commandos was to be heliported into Iranian territory and deployed near the research center.*
They would join there a recce team previously infiltrated that would take command of the force and guide air assets over the target.*
The insertion of the main force would closely follow a series of air strikes aimed at the research facility itself, its air defence forces and the Guards forces surrounding the perimeter.*
To the best knowledge of Israeli intelligence, the raid would come totally unexpected, as the Pasdarans had no way of knowing that the cover of the Darkhovin center was blown.*
The center is still expected to be heavily guarded, both from civilian curiosity and exterior aggression.*
*
Note: This scenario is designed to be played as the Israeli side, against the IA. To ensure victory, the Israeli player will have to destroy the nuclear hardware critical to the reactor, and hunt down the research teams. It is liekly that the researchers are under heavy escort and would be forcefully prevented from leaving the plant in case of an attack. About two dozens scientists are expected to be working on the complex. Eliminate or capture them all.*
*
Victory conditions (Israel):*
*
-Destroy the reactor hardware*
-Eliminate the research teams*
-Hold the reactor and surrounding buildings*
-Avoid losing men and helicopters at all costs*
