Breaking Through*

The Schleswig-Holstein Battles PART 1*
*
August 1985*
*
*
The big war has started. Warsaw Pact forces have unleashed their massive power on NATO. The 'Schleschwig-Holstein battles' will focus on the resulting battles in the area from Lubeck/Hamburg in the south and up into the Jutland peninsula.*
*
Forces deployed will be as close as possible to the composition, deployment and doctrine of that period. For both sides.*
*
'Breaking Through' is the first of the series.*

Scenario background:*
*
WP:*
While the divisions of the soviet group of forces in germany head straight west, the polish 12th motorised infantry division has been given the job to take the city of Lubeck and from there head north along the east coast of the peninsula.*
*
The 52nd MRR has succesfully attacked the northern outskirts of Lubeck. The regiments recon element used the cover of the heavy opening bombardment to identify a weak spot in the enemies defenses. The first and second battallions of the regiment attacked in full force and widened the gap. While they pinned the enemy on the flanks of the penetration, the third battallion was pushed through the opening and ordered to advance along the L184 towards Ahrensbok. Capturing that town will unravel NATO's forward defenses in this sector.*
*
The hamlet of Pohnsdorf has been cleared by the battallion recon platoon and first platoon of the lead company. No enemies were found. It seems they fled after a massive counterbattery strike, aimed at a NATO artillery force firing from there, hit the area. No destroyed guns were found though so they could still be in the vicinity.*
*
Next on the list is the village of Curau. Roadblocks and barbed wire can be seen blocking the entrance ways. So it is likely a NATO stopping force is positioned there. All elements of the heavily reinforced lead company have now arrived. Doctrine calls for a hasty attack to overrun the defenders as soon as possible so that the rest of the battallion can continue the advance unhindered. And so it shall be.*
*
*
NATO:*
Few regular NATO formations have been comitted to this sector. The responsibility for its defense falls mostly on the shoulders of the troops of the HeimatSchutzen units of Territorialkommando Schleswig-Holstein. But these are plentiful and of good quality, most of them anyway. Blocking forces are positioned on key locations to prevent easy envelopments by WP forces breaking through.*
*
The village of Curau sits on such a vital crossroads. Whomever holds it can outflank forces moving along the roads parallel to the L184. Right now those forces are NATO troops gradually falling back from the border area. Fortunately it is the only breakthrough in the sector but it'll be a while longer until all troops north and south of the penetration have disengaged and withdrawn to the next blocking line. So Curau must be held.*

If played against the computer the human player should play the Polish side. However, the scenario will play best with two human opponents.*
