       Weird Worlds: Rebalanced

The goal of Weird Worlds: Rebalanced is to enhance gameplay by tweaking settings that feel off and by adding content in areas that seem to be lacking in depth. To date there have been two test releases, designed to illustrate an example of each kind of change. Feedback has been disappointingly (although not unexpectedly) non-existant, but the project continues.

This release features a new race (or faction, rather): the Freebooters, which are almost entirely copied from the race creation example in the official mod docs. None of the stereotypical piratey things have been retained, however, as that seemed out of place. They feature a new color scheme for their ships that should still hopefully evoke a Terran feel, while conveying that these aren't the Terrans you're used to. The Moon Maurader ally also has a new paint job all its own, based on but distinct from the main Freebooter ships.

There are several reasons for this addition at this stage of development. Firstly, as I stated previously, this update along with the last serve to illustrate the range of modifications I plan to make. Secondly, the Moon Maurader's description mentions bands of space pirates ravaging the region, so their addition plugs a hole in the game's narrative by actually including said pirates. There is also the minor balance implication that there is now one more organization in the galaxy that doesn't care about the Mantle of Babulon (although the Mantle and in fact the entire diplomacy model will be receiving their own adjustments in the future). Finally, the ins and outs of Weird Worlds modding are still a bit unclear to me, so following along with a tutorial is a good way to learn. Since I feel the final product is something worthy of inclusion in the base game, in it goes.

I estimate it may be several weeks to a month or more before there are any further updates. If the silent few of you who have downloaded the first release hope to see this product continue, fear not. With this first bit of (feeble) hype-building out of the way, I now plan to hold off on any further releases until I actually have something that does what it says on the tin.

- Added the Freebooters (based on the pirates from the mod tutorial) as a new enemy faction.
- Altered the Moon Maurauder to use a color scheme closer in feel to the Freebooters, for consistency's sake. Its race remains Terran for gameplay reasons.

- Hitpoints for all shields have been decreased. No changes have been made to regeneration rates, however.

Most ideas for this mod were gathered from posts on the official forums, with a few personal touches added by myself.
