"I'll tell you what...*
*
"I remember when those boys from the UN came by to straighten us all up. Must have been, what? '12? 13? Round about that time anyway. Some ol' boys from Austin paid us a visit for a while the week before. These two eggheads with "Hah-vud" accents spent about a week nosing around here and there. I guess the last straw came on Sunday, one visited to Baptists and the other the Catholics down the street. Then they both went to the LDS. Guess they didn't care to much for what they heard.*
*
"A few days later a bunch of them Belgium showed up. They sounded French but they were those paratroopers the UN sent in after the President asked for help with those Jihad America, they were pretty active over in Dallas and Austen. They rode up and down the streets with loudspeakers tellin' everybody to bring their kids to the High School for "relocation and re-education". It was afternoon, so most kids were already there anyway. When they started goin' house-to-house with guns was when the shootin' started up.*
*
"Well I guess those UN boys didn't count on old Travis and his boys. Travis was one of those survivalist fellas. Had a ranch east of town. I don't know how much ranching they all did but they sure did a lot of shootin' guns.*
*
"Not that everyone in town was for fighting, there were some who wanted to just cooperate... A lot of folks got killed, on both sides.*
*
"They say Valentine was the start of the UN Wars..."*
*
This scenario pits a company-sized detachment of UN infantry against the population of Valentine, Texas. The UN forces are attempting to enter and secure the town and the townspeople are resisting this action.*
*
As the Texas player (recommended) you are required to fulfill the following conditions to win:*
*
1). Preventing any armed UN forces from occupying the victory hexes in the two schools at the end of the game.*
*
2). Occupying the victory hexes at the airfield east of the town.*
*
3). The KELP NewsEye 4 helicopter must directly overfly all victory point hexes (to inform the world).*
*
If these conditions have been met the normal victory conditions apply. For two-player games the UN player must move his trucks/buses to any hex adjoining the High School and then retreat it off the map.*
*
*
Designer's notes: Yes, this is the survivalist nightmare, "The UN Takes Over." As the Texas player your principal challenge is keeping your forces in good order until the end of the scenario. Remember your guys are not pros and their morale is fragile. Also keep in mind that the Gauntlet armored bus (yes it is a reference to the movie) is not a tank.*
*
Valentine, Texas is a real place but the town design is a figment of my imagination.*
*
This is Episode One of my informal "UN Wars" series. More will follow (maybe)...*
