Coastal Jaeger Company*
*
While the coastal infantry is responsible for defending the coastal areas and the fortifications of the coastal batteries, the coastal jaegers are mobile units that are to conduct offensive operations and counter-attacks in the coastal areas.*
*
Coastal Jaeger unit training started in beginning of 1960s, same time as the training of paratroopers, when the new defence doctrine called Areal Defence was taken into use in the Finnish Defence Force. The Coast Jaegers were originally to be used as a quick reaction force in case of an enemy surprise attack. In this scenario, the jaegers would have most likely taken the demilitarized zone of the Aaland Isles (Ahvenanmaa) before the enemy could take it.*
*
Later the role of the coastal jaegers was transformed into sort of specialized unit, with tougher than normal training in the FDF. In modern days the Nylands Brigad is the last place where coastal jaegers are trained (to form Coastal Jaeger Battalions and Independent Coastal Jaeger Companies), and the training is given in swedish, as most of the people in south-western coast of Finland are of the swedish speaking minority.*
*
The Coastal troops are identified with the word "Navy" in this OOB to not get them mixed up with the normal infantry, even when the coastal troops have not always been under the Finnish Navy.*
