Finnish Paratroopers*
*
The Finnish paratrooper training started in 1962, at the same time as Coastal Jaeger training started. A need for a quickly deployable, highly trained reconnaissance unit/strike force was seen when the defensive doctrine called Areal Defence was adopted in the Finnish defence.*
*
The Finnish paratroopers are trained in Utti Jaeger Regiment, and are a special force of the Army. The troops are conscripts, taken into service after demanding physical and mental testing process. The paratroops train hard in long range reconnaissance, raiding and parachute jumps. The paras need to know how to fight better than the enemy in any terrain, any light and weather conditions and deep behind enemy lines. After the purchase of choppers, the paras have also trained in heliborne ops. Each paratrooper receives a NCO-level leadership training.*
*
The paras carry the red beret, the sign of paratroopers.*
