Tank Company of Armoured Battalion*
*
In early 1990s more T-72s and BMP-1s were bought from the ex-DDR. The number of tanks enabled Finland to equip 2 armoured brigades. Brigade has 3 armoured battalions, battalion has 2 tank companies and 2 pzjaeger companies. Tank companies were equiped with T-72M1s and Finnish built BMP-1TJs. This gave tank companies the ability to use artillery more effectively to support their battle.*

The pzjaeger companies changed their BTR-60s to BMP-1s. This gave them more mobility, firepower and protection. Tanks would be used in more open areas and jaegers in wooded areas. Tanks and infantry were trained to work together in different situations. A common thing to do is to cross-attach platoons from tank and pzjaeger companies to give the tanks infantry cover they would need in wooded areas and the infantry tank support to deal with enemy tanks and for long range fire support.*

In around 2005-2008 the armoured brigades will be removed from reserve ending the long period of Soviet built tanks in Finnish service.*
