Jaeger Company of Tank Battalion*
*
In WW2 and right after it Finnish tank battalion did not have any organic infantry. This was concidered a disadvantage, as tanks always needed some infantrymen for close protection against enemy infantry. In the 1950s tank battalion received a jaeger company of their own (called "Saattokomppania" in Finnish, translated "Escort Company"). This infantry was faster than the bicycle jaegers of the jaeger battalions in armoured brigade thanks to the trucks used for transportation.*

Before mid-1950's the escort company, like all other jaeger companies, had 3 jaeger platoons and a machinegun platoon for support. In addition to this the escort company had light mortar platoon of its own. Later the machinegun platoon was removed and replaced with a 4th jaeger platoon as the machineguns were considered too bulky and slow. The lack of heavy machineguns was compensated with adding a 4th jaeger section to each platoon. This section was armed with two light machineguns to provide the jaeger platoons with sufficent direct fire support. They also received the new Finnish AT-weapon 55 Sinko 55.*

As the tank companies also received a platoon of infantry that moved on the decks of the tanks and was used for close cover of the tanks ("Suojamiehet" in Finnish). With the escort and cover men the tank battalion had sufficent amount of infantry to support the tanks, and additional infantry support should not be needed from the jaeger battalions the tanks were to support.*
