Jaeger Company, Organization 91*
*
Organization 91 is lighter version of the organization 90. Main difference on company level is the lack of light mortars. This is compensated with adding one more heavy mortar platoon to Battalion's Mortar Company (now 9 tubes, opposed to old 6). On battalion/brigade level there's bigger number of ATGMs and no Musti -equipped AT companies. Number of men is also lower and the number of Jaeger Battalions in the brigade / Companies in battalion is now 3 instead of the traditional 4. This means lighter, yet more mobile force.*
*
These companies are mainly meant for mobile operations such as delay and attack. They are the muscle in Jaeger Battalions and fight in close cooperation with supporting units such as AT, ATGM, Pioneer and artillery. To combat a strong and well armoured enemy, Jaegers should choose terrain most restricting to armour movement, something that Finland has plenty. The unit has quite strong close-range firepower with plenty of rechoilles AT weapons. The three Jaeger platoons are supported with FO Sections from the FO platoon to call in indirect fires from the battalion's heavy mortar company and supporting artillery groups. The shock effect is to be achieved with fast and vicious artillery preparation and by quickly moving to enemy flanks using terrain with dense woods, swamps and deep snow, where the troops silently move on foot/skis.*
*
To attack effectively, the Jaegers need all the support they can get from heavier and longer range AT/ATGM -units and pioneers that breach enemy minefields and also build barriers to deny enemy armour passage to help out the force under attack. Battalion's shoulder-launched SAMs are also needed to keep the enemy choppers and ground attack planes in bay. In delay and defence the Jaegers also need support, especielly in form of minefields and AT killzones.*
*
During fighting the vehicles are left behind and used for support duties as the lightly armoured APCs and unarmoured BVs would not stand a chance against the enemy armour. The unit has very limited number of radios that are mostly used for calling down indirect fires. For this reason the unit leaders need to give good orders down to their subordinates before the fighting begins, and during fighting the lower ranks are supposed to fight according to commander's intent, using mission based tactics.*

HISTORY:*
Brigade 91 -organization emerged in the 1990's, when more Jaeger units were organized, but there was not enough equipment to make them as heavy as organization 90 was. And with a mortar company in each battalion and an artillery regiment with 2 battalions, the amount of indirect fire available to individual companies actually increased.*
*
The number of 91 Jaeger Brigades have some differences, mainly in vehicles. Like before, most brigades use XA -series Pasi wheeled APCs or BV/NA -series all-terrain vehicles. But with the ex-DDR arms deal the now 2 Armoured Brigades could be equipped with BMP IFVs, the BTR-60PBs were given to Savo Brigade, thus one Jaeger Brigade was now equipped with BTRs. There were also tests with BTR-80s, but as the USSR collapsed, it was decided to buy more Pasi APCs.*
*
With the cuts made to FDF's reserve size and vehicles (especially the BTR-60) getting old, many brigade 91s are being dispanded with other infantry units. Taking their place are the 3 Readiness Brigades (aka organization 2005) and other smaller, yet more mobile and harder hitting units. In 2009 there are still 2 Jaeger Brigade 91s left, but further cuts will most likely cause them to disappear along with the older Infantry Brigades (org 80).*
