Tholian Assembly |
The Tholian Assembly is a race of non-humanoids that are highly territorial and aggressive when encountered. They possess unique crystalline technology, but their isolationist philosophy has left them at an economic and political disadvantage.
General Environment:
Hydrogen and Rock Cultural Modifiers
Biology Tholians are non-humanoid crystalline lifeforms that are silicon-based. They have a multi-faceted appearance and prefer temperatures near 500K and moderately high pressure. Tholians average 2.5 meters in height with a mass of about 250 kilograms. They breath hydrogen gas through small microscopic pores on their bodies and have few recognizable internal organs. Tholians move and manipulate objects by projecting portions of their bodies outward. They communicate through harmonic resonance at ultrasonic frequencies and can change color depending on their physical and mental condition. Tholians are without sexes and reproduce through budding about once every 10 to 15 years. Newborn Tholians undergo a complex metamorphosis that can last up to 25 years before they reach maturity. The average Tholian lifespan is about 500 years. Society The Tholian Assembly is governed by a council of selected officials that represent the needs of individual Tholian planets and systems. Tholian culture is highly organized and structured with individual Tholians modified to perform specific functions in society before they emerge from metamorphosis. Tholians value logic and order, which has created a sophisticated mathematical philosophy that mediates Tholian life in almost a religious manner. Tholians are highly prejudice towards inferior and chaotic humanoid lifeforms, which has undoubtedly contributed to their highly isolationist philosophy. Brief History The Tholian Assembly is one of the oldest known space-faring civilizations in their region of the galaxy. The aftermath of several destructive wars long ago left the Tholian's influence much reduced. The Tholian's extreme xenophobic nature has made normalized relations with other civilizations impossible. Incursions into Tholian space have met strong resistance and often destruction for the invaders. The Tholian Assembly continues to annex small areas of space in isolated conflicts against Federation, Klingon, and other species interests. During the recent Dominion War, the Tholians remained neutral, but are likely to take advantage of the chaotic state of neighboring empires.
