Welcome to Jack Simth's temporary server!
I put this up just for
a short gaming session on Saturday, and stop it after.
(1) jackob (enter): 10:40
(3) Derrel (enter): 10:40
(2) Jason: nick Aphrysini
(2) Aphrysini: role 3 = DM
(3) DM: Hello
(1) Jacob: Hello. How goes it?
(3) DM: Pretty well, I think.
(1) Jacob: That's good.
(3) DM: Havn't heard from Brian, but Rudy said he'd show up.
(1) Jacob: Me, I'm looking up the cost of hiring mercenary soldiers online.
(1) Jacob: Let's see.... Hireling, Trained: 3 sp; Hireling, Trained: The amount given is the typical daily wage for mercenary warriors, masons, craftsmen, scribes, teamsters, and other trained hirelings. This value represents a minimum wage; many such hirelings require significantly higher pay.
(1) Jacob: Link
(3) DM: Personally, I think it's way to cheap. Keep the sp cost per day, but I think there's going to be an x100 cost per battle.
(3) DM: I've got the DMG open to it. :)
(3) DM: Or not. I've actually got it open to table 4-1, which lists the hire of a common mercenary as 2sp per day.
(1) Jacob: Depends on how you want to look at it - hiring a level-1 NPC class warrior for a month to cover a caravan would thus cost 9 gp. (30 days * 3 sp per day)
(1) Jacob: That would represent what, though? Hired thugs harvested from the local gang population?
(1) Jacob: That and, ya know, NPC's don't get the nifties that PC's do - stat's all 10's, NPC classes, and an NPC warrior only has a BAB of 1, a Fort save of 2, and a d8 hit die (with no max HP for first level).
(1) Jacob: One decent hit, and such a hireling is dead.
(3) DM: OOC: Sorry, my food got cooked. Had to go fix it.
(1) Jacob: Isn't food supposed to be cooked?
(1) Jacob: So the average such hireling would have an AC of 10-12 (leather armor, at best) a total attack bonus of 1; they would hit a medium armor target (AC 15, say) only on a roll of 14+.
(3) DM: Well, had to stick the burgers between two slices of bread, with ketchup and cheese-wiz.
(1) Jacob: Ah, so "fix" not as in "un-cook" but "fix" as in "finish preparing"
(3) DM: True, but how much gold do you have?
(1) Jacob: [1d6] -> [3] = (3)
(3) DM: Uh...That little?
(1) Jacob: No - hit the wrong button - 728 gp uncommitted. If we assume that hirelings follow the same basic cost progression as spell casters (level ^2 * base) then a 2nd level hireling would cost...
(1) Jacob: 12 sp per day. BAB of 2, slightly better saves, 2d8 hp, reasonable that they have medium armor.
(3) DM: Ok, but you can hire a lot of them. x50 cost per battle?
(1) Jacob: I was figuring minimum hire time of a month (travel time, serious mercenaries need to have "steady" wages)
(1) Jacob: Which would make a level-2 merc cost a minimum of 36 gp per event.
(1) Jacob: .... going by online SRD, that is.
(3) DM: Hmm...Maybe just require a minimum of a months wages if a battle is involved? (Negotiable, of course)
(3) DM: That's for a hireling, trained. A 1st-level mercenary costs 3sp, somewhere between trained and untrained.
(3) DM: * 2sp
(3) DM: Calvery 4sp, but you wouldn't find much of that in some caverns. Leader 6sp.
(1) Jacob: So a level-3 leader, (3*3*6 sp per day = 54 sp per day); a platoon of 10 level-2 warriors (2 sp * 2*2*10 = 80 sp per day) = 134 sp per day; a month's worth takes....
(1) Jacob: 9102 sp = 910 gp, 2 sp.
(1) Jacob: Hmm.... maybe not that many.
(1) Jacob: Or just not that high of quality; a level-3 leader with 20 level-1 warriors would cost 54 sp/day leader, 20*2 sp/day for warriors = 94 sp/day; * 30 days = 282 gp.
(3) DM: If Rudy comes, you'll have more gold to spend.
(1) Jacob: Hmm.... probably need to purchase food for a month, too - at 5 sp/day/person, a month's worth for 21 costs more than the warriors themselves - 105 sp a day, 315 gp for a month.
(1) Jacob: call it an even 600 gp for a 20-level 1 man mercenary company, a level-3 leader to command them, food for a month, and a few golds for misc stuff (a donkey to carry supplies?)
(3) DM: Well, since they don't seem to make enough to feed themselves...
(3) DM: Four donkeys should be enough, I would think.
(3) DM: The mercenaries would carry their own equipment...No need for tents.
(3) DM: Bedrolls only, and the mercenaries could easily carry those.
(1) Jacob: Well.... that 5 sp is good, trivially prepared trail rations; if they are eating at a town, they can get "poor" meals for 1 sp, and "poor" inn stays for 2 sp per night.
(1) Jacob: We could reasonably expect to have high-morale troops feeding them so well.
(3) DM: Seems reasonable.
(1) Jacob: Wait.... what time is it?
(3) DM: 11:13. I hope I didn't scare Rudy off with that 'AAAIIIEEE'
(1) Jacob: That's what I thought. Care to try a CR 10 dragon on for size in the ECL 11 game?
(3) DM: He's not on IRC.
(3) DM: Sure, as long as Derrel has a good reason. :)
(1) Jacob: Maybe we can find out he's snacking on peasants....
(3) Derrel: That'd do it.
(3) Derrel: Paladin's have this thing about dead peasents. Sets them off every time. :D
(1) GM: Resting in the tavern of the town of ForestPass, you are approached by a very expensivly dressed merchant. There is a ring with a large stone on every finger, his cloths are all trimmed with gold, and appear to be made out of the finest of silks. Several gold neclaces adorn his neck, and while he isn't wearing a crown, that hat could almost pass for one.
(1) Zaroth: Hello, my name's Zaroth. Are you with the party that cleared the pass? If so, there's a little chore I would like to hire you for. I can make it worth your while.
(3) Derrel: What little chore?
(1) Merchant: There's a dragon that's been harrassing and taxing my caravans. He has been cutting into my revenue rather severly and I need him stopped. If you are who I think you are, I suspect you can eliminate my problem.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Shouldn't you bring in the ghost?
(3) Derrel: I'm a paladin. Revenue doesn't mean much to me.
(2) Jason: So? Sounds like any number of barons.
(1) DM: Well, my gaurds have been telling me the dragon has been snacking on peasants.
(1) Zaroth: Well, my gaurds have been telling me the dragon has been snacking on peasants.
(3) Derrel: Well, you have yourself at least one dragon slayer.
(2) Jason: But of course, that's not your concern, is it?
(1) GM: Well, peasants die all the time....
(2) Jason: Hmm... what's in it for me?
(1) Zaroth: Let's see... the dragon has been cutting my profits by about 1,000 gp a caravan, I manage about ten caravans on that route every year, so.... half a year's worth to you if you can get rid of him - 5,000 gp.
(2) Jason: Fair enough. I'm in.
(2) Jason: Anything you want to take care of before we head off?
(3) Derrel: Nope.
(1) DM: You follow the caravan; life on the trail is pretty dull; every night, you stop with the rest of the caravan and make camp; every morning, you pack up and get something to eat from the caravan mess while the rest of the caravan gets moving. Every day, it's nothing but walking, riding a horse, or hitching a ride on the wagons, as it strikes your fancy. Until one morning about two weeks in, the caravan lead comes to say hello.
(1) Caravan Lead: Well, the Dragon's range is coming up shortly, about another day's travel ahead. It's lair is about halfway through the territory it covers. If you are wanting to ambush the dragon in it's lair, you will need to leave now. If not, now is the time you will want to start getting your weapons in order, if you wish to catch it when it addresses the caravan. Anything you need?
(3) Derrel: OOC: Best to keep civilian casualties to a minimum. I'll tell the caravan to stop outside it's range and head in.
(2) Jason: I doubt you have to worry about the caravan too much - most people run when a dragon shows up.
(2) Jason: So, I take it you want to try seeking out the dragon? We'll need a map for that. To CL Got one?
(3) Derrel: Yep - But the dragon might breath on them.
(3) Derrel: And rope and some torches?
(1) GM: CL: Yep; that greedy merchant sent out a small merc company to take out the dragon - they found the lair, but not many came back. Here's a map, and we do have some torches three do? Also, we can spare some hemp rope.
(2) Jason: You keep the torches; I don't need them.
** (3) Derrel takes the torches, the rope and the map. **
** (2) Jason To derrel, by the way **
(2) Jason: Well, ready to head off?
(3) Derrel: Derrel prays for two 'Protection from Evil' and one 'Resist Energy'
(3) Derrel: Yes.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Should have been an OOC:
(1) DM: You follow your map, and come to a cave, easily large enough for a horse to enter with a rider, although there isn't enough room for too much spreading out along the sides. The stone around the entryway has gouges, as though some very sturdy claws had ripped it apart. How will you proceed?
(2) Jason: I think I'll scout ahead, if it's all the same to you.
(3) Derrel: I think that's a good idea. I've still got tender flesh that can be rended.
(2) Jason: Jason fades from sight (un-manifests) and heads down the cabe to see what's up
(1) DM: The cavern is high, and wide enough that a man could just barely touch both walls with his outstretched arms. The passage is dark and very damp, the air is oppressively moist. The sides of the cave have been worn smooth, and every here and there you can see a blue scale that has rubbed off of the dragon and fallen to the floor. You get the impression it's a tight squeeze for the dragon anymore.
(1) DM: After a few minutes, you come across a wider area, where you find the dragon, sleeping on his booty.
(1) DM: Dragon, roll vs. Listen, at -10 because you are asleep.
(1) Dragon: Listen Skill Check: [1d20-10+4] -> [17,-10,4] = (11)
(1) GM: Everyone else, roll vs. Move Silently (remember to include Armor Check Penalties)
(2) Jason: Ghost's don't make sound unless they want to. No listen roll.
(1) GM: Grr.
(3) Derrel: Move Silently Skill Check: [1d20+1-7] -> [10,1,-7] = (4) (includes Armor Penalty of -7)
(2) Jason: All right, heading back to get Derrel.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Ouch
(2) Jason: Fortunately, you weren't in the cave.
(2) Jason: Fades back into view up at the cave mouth.
(2) Jason: Smallish dragon, looks like it will be trading up on it's cave soon. Tight squeeze.
(2) Jason: Blue, if the color is important.
(3) Derrel: Certainly. Thank you.
(1) GM: Sorry, you can't see color when looking at stuff from the etherial plane. You don't know the color.
(2) Jason: Drat.
(2) Jason: Never mind then.
(2) Jason: Umm, can I make a roll vs. Knoweledge (Arcana) to know the dragon's color from the shape of it's head?
(1) GM: I suppose - they are magical critters - DC 25
(2) Jason: Knowledge: Arcana Skill Check: [1d20+11] -> [4,11] = (15)
(1) GM: Failed.
(1) GM: You can't select the right color for Energy Resistance until Derrel sees the dragon.
(2) Jason: Well, care to lead the way?
** (3) Derrel leads the way. **
(2) Jason: Wait, wouldn't we have gotten the color from the Caravan lead?
(1) GM: Nope, you didn't ask him any questions when you had the chance. Sorry.
(2) Jason: Pity.
(2) Jason: Or do I need to lead to tell you when we are getting close?
(3) Derrel: That might work better.
(2) Jason: Let's go then.
(1) Dragon: Listen Skill Check: [1d20-10+4] -> [16,-10,4] = (10)
(1) GM: Everyone else, roll vs. Move Silently (remember to include Armor Check Penalties)
** (2) Jason Deathly silent. **
(3) Derrel: Move Silently Skill Check: [1d20+1-7] -> [14,1,-7] = (8) (includes Armor Penalty of -7)
(1) GM: The Dragon snorts and wakes up - roll for inititive.
(2) Jason: Dex check: [1d20+4] -> [11,4] = (15)
(3) Derrel: OOC: Wait a second - Need caster level for paladin.
(1) GM: Dex check: [1d20-1] -> [16,-1] = (15)
(3) Derrel: OOC: 11/2...Round up or down?
(1) GM: 1/2 paladin level. Round down - gives you a CL of 5.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Ok, thanks.
(3) Derrel: Initiative: [1d20+1] -> [3,1] = (4)
(1) GM: Re-roll tie between Dragon and Jason.
(1) GM: Dex check: [1d20-1] -> [12,-1] = (11)
(2) Jason: Dex check: [1d20+4] -> [19,4] = (23)
(1) GM: Jason, Dragon, Derrel.
(1) GM: Jason?
(2) Jason: I'm going to hustle off to the side (don't want the dragon to catch both of us with the breath weapon) and cast Shield.
(2) Jason: Shield Spell, level 1: Standard Action, +4 to AC for Class Level * 1 minutes = 6 minutes; level 1 spell
(1) GM: The image of the blue dragon will be played by a troll. Add miniatures.
(3) Derrel: OOC: not that one...Don't think I recorded the URL
(1) GM: Start at the bottom of the screen.
(1) GM: Use the one for Jacob from the other game. It should be hiding in the node.
(1) GM: Ooh, that works.
(1) dragon: Grab potion from hoard, drink
(1) GM: Full-round action; your teeth take on a slight glow.
(1) GM: Derrel?
(3) Derrel: Darrel casts Protection from Chaos/Evil/Good/Law ( level 1, "+2 AC and saves, counter mind control, hedge out elementals/outsiders" )
(1) GM: Which form?
(3) Derrel: OOC: On self, against Evil
(1) GM: Effective against the Dragon - AC + 2, +2 on all saves.
(2) Jason: Ghost Telekenesis: Manuvers: Standard Action, Concentration: Combat Manuvers (Disarm, Trip, Grapple (Pin), Bull Rush) 12 rounds; +12 for Base Attack, +10 for dex/str due to method), Wait: [1d4] -> [1] = (1)
(2) Jason: Trying to pin the dragon (crazy, I know....)
(2) Jason: [1d20 + 22] -> [19,22] = (41)
(1) GM: Okay - ranged touch with telekenesis on the dragon; opposed attack rolls.
(2) Jason: [1d20 + 22] -> [16,22] = (38)
(1) GM: Str check: [1d20+6] -> [2,6] = (8)
(2) Jason: at + 27 means he gets a 35. You win, Jason; the dragon is pinned.
(1) GM: Oops - wrong window.
(1) GM: Dragon: Attempt to break grapple. [1d20 + 33] -> [5,33] = (38)
(2) Jason: [1d20 + 22] -> [15,22] = (37)
(1) GM: You get free, but have no other actions this turn.
(1) GM: Derrel?
(3) Derrel: Darrel casts Resist Elements ( level 2, "Ignores 12 damage/round from one energy type" )
(1) GM: What element?
(3) Derrel: OOC: Closest I could find to resist energy. Electricity.
(2) Jason: Try to pin again.
(2) Jason: [1d20 + 22] -> [5,22] = (27)
(2) Jason: [1d20 + 22] -> [14,22] = (36)
(1) GM: Touch attack succeeds. Opposed grapple roll:
(1) GM: Dragon: [1d20 + 33] -> [17,33] = (50)
(3) Derrel: OOC: Although Resist Elements is better.
(1) GM: Grappling, but not pinned. -4 AC, no dex bonus, can't target anyone you aren't grappling.
(1) GM: Well, not with natural attacks, anyway...
(1) GM: Dragon: Breath weapon, target that Ghost!
(1) GM: Lightning Breath (base): [1d20+1016] -> [7,1016] = (1023) ===> Damage: [9d8+0] -> [1,8,1,2,3,6,1,4,2,0] = (28)
(3) Derrel: OOC: +1016????
(1) GM: Well, that's to simulate the fact that it's not an attack, so much as a line effect - no avoiding by armor; needs reflex save.
(2) Jason: Reflex save: [1d20+6] -> [10,6] = (16)
(3) Derrel: OOC: Ah, right. :)
(3) Derrel: OOC: Can electricity target an intangible target?
(2) Jason: Save DC 20 - failed.
(2) Jason: 28 damage then. Ouch.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Shouldn't Jason be next to the dragon?
(2) Jason: Nope. Ghost telekenisis is as the spell, caster level 12 or ghost's HD, whichever is higher - Caster level 12. It's ranged. Look it up.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Oh, ok.
(2) Jason: I don't have to be anywhere near him.
(3) Derrel: OOC: My turn?
(1) GM: Yep. I'm really going to need to include some clerics on the next adventure....
(3) Derrel: Longsword Attack 1 Attack Roll: [1d20+21] -> [4,21] = (25)===> DMG: [1d8+4+2] -> [6,4,2] = (12)
(1) GM: AC effective 19 - hit!
(1) GM: Jason's turn.
(2) Jason: Grapple again; pin attempt: [1d20 + 22] -> [6,22] = (28)
(1) GM: Dragon: [1d20 + 33] -> [13,33] = (46)
(1) GM: Dragon not pinned, still grappling.
(1) GM: Dragon: Break grapple
(1) GM: Dragon: [1d20 + 33] -> [6,33] = (39)
(2) Jason: [1d20 + 22] -> [6,22] = (28)
(1) GM: Success - no longer grappled; back to 23 ac.
(1) GM: Derrel?
(3) Derrel: Longsword Attack 1 Attack Roll: [1d20+21] -> [11,21] = (32)===> DMG: [1d8+4+2] -> [8,4,2] = (14)
(3) Derrel: Longsword Attack 2 Attack Roll: [1d20+16] -> [6,16] = (22)===> DMG: [1d8+4+2] -> [2,4,2] = (8)
(3) Derrel: Longsword Attack 3 Attack Roll: [1d20+11] -> [9,11] = (20)===> DMG: [1d8+4+2] -> [4,4,2] = (10)
(1) GM: One hit, 14 damage.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Whackedy, whackedy, whackedy.
(2) Jason: Grapple again; pin attempt: [1d20 + 22] -> [3,22] = (25), [1d20+22] -> [9,22] = (31)
(1) GM: Touch succeeds; opposed pin roll?
(1) GM: Dragon: [1d20 + 33] -> [2,33] = (35)
(1) GM: Not pinned.
(1) GM: Dragon?
(1) GM: Breath weapon - I'm going to get that ghost.
(1) GM: Lightning Breath (base): [1d20+1016] -> [14,1016] = (1030) ===> Damage: [9d8+0] -> [7,4,5,8,3,6,2,7,7,0] = (49)
(2) Jason: Reflex save: [1d20+6] -> [6,6] = (12)
(2) Jason: And... I'm destroyed. Taking 10 on my Rejuvination roll, please. [2d4] -> [2,4] = (6)
(2) Jason: 6 days till I'm back.
(1) GM: Derrel?
(3) Derrel: I smite evil.
(1) GM: +11 attack/damage on one melee attack.
(1) GM: You have one more attempt. Roll weapons.
(1) GM: You still get your full attack - which attack do you use it on? 1 , 2, or 3?
(3) Derrel: OOC: 2.
(3) Derrel: Longsword Attack 1 Attack Roll: [1d20+21] -> [2,21] = (23)===> DMG: [1d8+4+2] -> [8,4,2] = (14)
(3) Derrel: Longsword Attack 2 Attack Roll: [1d20+17] -> [1,17] = (18)===> DMG: [1d8+4+11+2] -> [7,4,11,2] = (24)
(3) Derrel: Longsword Attack 3 Attack Roll: [1d20+11] -> [13,11] = (24)===> DMG: [1d8+4+2] -> [5,4,2] = (11)
(1) GM: All three hit - 14 + (24 + 11) + 11 = 60 damage.
(1) Dragon: Full Attack:
(1) Dragon: bite +22 (2d6+6): Attack Roll: [1d20+22] -> [17,22] = (39), Damage: [2d6+6] -> [2,4,6] = (12)
(1) Dragon: claw +17 (1d8+3) Attack Roll: [1d20+17] -> [13,17] = (30), Damage: [1d8+3] -> [4,3] = (7)
(1) Dragon: claw +17 (1d8+3) Attack Roll: [1d20+17] -> [18,17] = (35), Damage: [1d8+3] -> [5,3] = (8)
(1) Dragon: tail slap +16 (1d8+9) Attack Roll: [1d20+16] -> [12,16] = (28), Damage: [1d8+9] -> [8,9] = (17)
(3) Derrel: OOC: Uh...Number 2 couldn't have hit.
(3) Derrel: Initiative: [1d20+1] -> [1,1] = (2)
(3) Derrel: AC: 29+2
(3) Derrel: OOC: That one, not the other one. 1 and 3 hit.
(1) GM: Smite does both +11 damage and +11 to-hit.
(1) GM: Ah, wait - you may be right - it's just your charisma bonus to the attack roll. What's your Cha bonus?
(3) Derrel: OOC: No, it says 'adds her charisma bonus to her attack roll and deals 1 extra point of damage per paladin level.
(3) Derrel: OOC 1
(3) Derrel: OOC: Besides, I rolled a 1 on 2.
(1) GM: Woops - you're right - undoing 35 damage.
(3) Derrel: OOC: I included the smite damage in the roll, along with the attack bonus. That's 14+11 damage, for 25.
(1) GM: At AC 31, Derrel takes 2 hits from the dragon - 20 damage.
(1) GM: Adjusted.
(1) GM: Derrel?
(3) Derrel: OOC: Another smite (I've got three of those) same attack as before.
(3) Derrel: Longsword Attack 1 Attack Roll: [1d20+21] -> [10,21] = (31)===> DMG: [1d8+4+2] -> [6,4,2] = (12)

(1) GM: Reflex save?
(3) Derrel: Reflex save: [1d20+6] -> [8,6] = (14)
(1) GM: Don't forget your +1 charisma class bonus.
(3) Derrel: OOC: [14+1] -> 15
(1) GM: Doesn't matter anyway though - DC 20.
(1) GM: 37 damage.
(3) Derrel: [1d12] -> [1] = (1)
(3) Derrel: OOC: Ignore that, clicked on the wrong thing.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Methinks the party will soon be ex-attempted dragon slayers.
(2) Jason: Oh, I don't know - I ALWAYS come back.
** (3) Derrel wonders if Jason will try to have him revived. **
(2) Jason: Need the body, and this dragon's a man eater....
(1) GM: It's not a big enough dragon to swollow a man whole - there will be bones.
(1) GM: Derrel, your turn.
(3) Derrel: OOC: one last smite.
(1) GM: Which attack?

(3) Derrel: OOC: Already added.
(3) Derrel: OOC: :)
(1) GM: Doesn't matter - all three hit. [19 + 12 + 13] -> 44
(1) GM: Dragon: Grab staff from hoard, fireball Derrel.
(1) GM: Derrel: [8d6] -> [3,5,4,6,4,5,6,4] = (37), reflex half. Dragon, you are in range. Oops. [8d6] -> [6,5,5,1,5,4,2,2] = (30)

(1) GM: Dragon also failed.
(1) GM: Well, no sorry; got the DC wrong - it's DC 13. BOth succeed.
(1) GM: Round down

(1) GM: All three still hit; 32 damage.
(1) GM: [25-32] -> -7
(1) GM: Dragon is down.

(1) GM: Dragon is dead.
(1) GM: With a roar, the dragon expires.
** (3) Derrel falls on the floor in relief. **
(1) GM: Done entierly honestly, too.
(1) DM: You find four scrolls, one potions, one bronzewood staff with brass bucklers, 180 platinum pieces and 2500 gold pieces, a large, well-done wool tapestry, a silver comb with moonstones, a silver chalice with lapis lazuli gems, a golden circlet with four aquamarines, a carved wooden harp with ivory inlay and gems, and a jeweled gold crown.
(1) DM: (Inventory Entries: Dragon Scroll 1, Dragon Scroll 2, Dragon Scroll 3, Dragon Scroll 4, Dragon Potion, Dragon Bronzewood Staff, Dragon tapestry, Dragon silver comb, Dragon silver chalice, Dragon golden circlet, Dragon Ivory Inlay Harp, Dragon Gold Crown)
(2) Jason: Well, what next?
(1) GM: Reactions?
** (3) Derrel celebrates, quietly and with exhausted ferver. **
(2) Jason: Head back to the caravan, maybe with some proof, and claim your prize?
(2) Jason: Maybe use up your Laying on of Hands?
** (3) Derrel cuts off the dragons head and heads back to the caravan. **
(3) Derrel: OOC: How much do I have to watch out for weight limits? Do I need to hire some people to carry that stuff?
(2) Jason: Caravan Gaurds: You did It!
(2) Jason: You don't, as you are in heavy armor anyway.
(3) Derrel: OOC: +11hp from hands.
(3) Derrel: "Yes."
(2) Jason: Caravan Lead: He's dead? How much did that merchant promise you? And where's the pale guy?
(1) GM: Oops, wrong window.
(3) Derrel: "Yes, 5000gp and he'll be back as soon as he's done resting."
** (3) Derrel doesn't think he should explain the whole 'ghost' thing... **
(1) GM: Funny - we have a cleric in the group for picking up after bandit raids. No matter. Well, I'll go get your payment.
(1) GM: The the Caravan Lead fetches a sack of coin, and hands it to Derrel. It seems a little heavier than it should be for platinum, but lighter than it should be for gold.
** (3) Derrel checks to see what it is. **
(1) GM: You find 1,000 Platinum Pieces.
(3) Derrel: OOC: That's 10,000gp, right? 5,000gp each.
(1) GM: ooc: That's the value.
** (3) Derrel checks to see if there is anything else in there that would explain the weight. **
(1) GM: ooc: Nope. The Greedy merchant didn't say "each" now did he?
(3) Derrel: OOC: On the other hand, Derrel doesn't know he didn't mean that...Hmm...
(3) Derrel: "This is the right amount, right?"
(1) GM: Caravan Lead (glances around a bit, and looks slightly sheepish): It's the sack the merchant gave me for payment.
(3) Derrel: "Well, ok." *Shrugs*
(3) Derrel: "Thanks."
** (3) Derrel wanders back to the dragons cave to wait for Jason and explore a bit. **
(1) GM: The cave doesn't have any offshoots - it looks to have been dug into the granite with claws. You don't find anything you didn't find the first time around.
(2) Jason: Anything else to cover before I fight my way back to the land of the half-living.
(2) Jason: Anything else to cover before I fight my way back to the land of the half-living?
(3) Derrel: Nope.
(1) GM: All right; 6 days pass - using your healing on yourself in the meanwhile? If not, just gain Character Level * 6 HP from camping.
(2) Jason: Fades back into existance at the location of his demise
(2) Jason: Ohh, that smarts. What did I miss?
(3) Derrel: The dragon died, we got 5,000gp each and I came back here.
(3) Derrel: To be more precise, I killed the dragon.
(2) Jason: I doubt you could have done it had I not been holding it down as long as I did.
(3) Derrel: I was reffering to the finishing blow; a matter of responcibility. Indeed, I think most of the credit for the fight goes to you.
(2) Jason: Well, it was a team effort - there is no way I could have put out enough punishment to kill the thing on my own.
(1) GM: Well, that's all I've prepared; Let's see - cr 10, party level 9, 4050 experience - 2025 each.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Uh, my characters level 11.
(2) Jason: Yes, but there are only two party memebers - that's -2 to party level, which is what the table in the DMG goes by.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Oh.
(3) Derrel: OOC: I should compile those tables.
(2) Jason: Brings me to 64275 EXP; just 1725 to go till next level.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Or maybe someone on the internets done it.
(2) Jason: This Should Be Handy
(1) GM: So, up for a random encounter (defending the caravan?) or should we call it quits for today?
(3) Derrel: OOC: Indeed. Thanks. :)
(3) Derrel: OOC: Hey, I could use another 1725 xp. :)
(3) Derrel: OOC: Only have 33hp left, though.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Is it too late for heal checks?
(1) GM: +66 for resting alone while waiting for Jason. Take your heal checks - you've got 6 days worth on your own. I think we can say you are fully healed.
(3) Derrel: OOC: +66? I thought it was +6.
(1) GM: one hp per level per day - that's 11 per day, 6 days, 66 hp.
(1) GM: That, and you know, Laying on of Hands is Cha Bonus * Paladin Level * Days, witch is also 66.
(3) Derrel: OOC: Oh, ok. I really need those tables. (And maybe re-read the books)
(1) GM: Allrighty - you follow the caravan. Make spot checks.
(3) Derrel: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+1] -> [6,1] = (7)
(2) Jason: Spot Skill Check: [1d20+10] -> [4,10] = (14)

(3) Derrel: Swim Skill Check: [1d20+2] -> [1,2] = (3)
(3) Derrel: OOC: How'd that happen?
(2) Jason: (whispering to Derrel) there's something in the bushes - dark, and large.
(1) GM: Jason, you spotted it.
** (3) Derrel heads toward the bushes. **
(1) GM: A troll. Wearing armor.
** (3) Derrel draws his sword. **
(2) Jason: So, think it's any of our buisiness? After all, technically we were just hired to take out the dragon.
(2) Jason: (still whispering)
(3) Derrel: "I am a paladin."
(3) Derrel: (Quietly)
(2) Jason: (Whispering) Right. Well, no help for it then. Could you wait a few moments before charging? I have some preparations of my own to make.
** (3) Derrel stops in front of the bushes and gives the troll a chance to surender. **
(3) Derrel: OOC: In a few minutes...
(2) Jason: Shield, Level 1: Invisible disc gives +4 to AC, blocks magic missiles
(2) Jason: Spectral Hand, Level 2: Forms a ghostly hand to deliver low-level touch spells; has 1d4 hp, taken from caster [1d4] -> [1] = (1)
(2) Jason: Shield, Level 1: Invisible disc gives +4 to AC, blocks magic missiles
(2) Jason: Forget the second shield - it wouldn't help derrel any.
(2) Jason: (Well, I'm ready.)
(2) Jason: (that was a whisper to Derrel)
(3) Derrel: OOC: Then on with the demand for surender.
(3) Derrel: "You there. Come out of the bushes with your hands up!"
(1) GM: Roll vs. Init. Trolls are listed as "fearless"
