Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Actually, now that I look. I dont even see how to disband troops. Is that not even an option in this game?

I've had the same problem with reanimating manikins with LA pangaea. I'd end up with so many, I couldn't even see them to select them, much less move them. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Interesting... Interesting turn. I think I may finally see something.

No really, what do you see??? heh probably my capital, not that it matters. |

At any rate, I will need a big pushback to make it happen, and that's going to be difficult. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Hmm. Lost a battle I could really not afford to lose. It's looking pretty grim now... that light in the tunnel I saw was indeed a train coming. I even lost the prov count total.
Still, I have one more thing up my sleeve. We'll see if it matters in the long run. If I cannot drive you back, Psi, it's probably game. Even if I lose again, I could probably slog it out for 20-30 more turns. But that's no fun for anyone. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
I'd assume you are talking about lilly valley eh?
Smooth move using the ghost riders to make you waste your Fire storm and all that wasnt it :D Went pretty much as I had planned it. I did still loose about a thousand troops there though so it wasnt completely one sided. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
A thousand troops to you, is like, a drop in the bucket? Yeah, Lilly Valley was the battle I could not lose, but did. I've got a few more tricks up my sleeve, but not much.
You are very close to my cap now. Take it, and I will give you the win. Beware though, there are hideously strong mages in my cap. And I do control all the southern provs, and they have a lot of blood. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Yeah, a thousand is pretty much like a drop in a bucket considering that in many many provinces where they are being reanimated I have usually between 1.5 and 5 thousand in reserve at almost all times, but still I have to regroup troops and send commanders back to get more.
Yeah, if it wasnt for all the blood that I know you have I'd probably just teleport my pretender on your capital and take it with her, but that would be a good way to get banished. Assuming I didn't bring enough extra troops to be the target of such spells. Oh and I went ahead and submitted the next turn. Maybe we can speed this game up to its conclusion and get another turn in over the weekend, not that it matters too much. At this point I really want to just have my new armies that I was talking about ready and try them out a couple of times. Ive got just a few preperations left to make for them. but they are pretty much ready. They just have a few weaknesses that I havent addressed yet. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Sure Psi, let's speed it up and get it over with one way or another. The turns for me are really a pain though. I'll try and get one in tonite... if not, I'll finish it tomorrow.
|
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
OK, good turn. Not a great turn, but not bad either. Got that horror harmonica off my back. So guys, give me a little time on this turn. I have a lot to do, and when you guys hit end turn and send in early, it really puts the pressure on me.
|
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
ROFL I cast 3 Ghost riders against one of Arco's armies this turn just to soften them up before my real army attacked...
Arco had about 20+ troops on the field including a few elephants at the end of the battle where I only had one wraith lord with 3 hit points left and Arco Routed. If they had not routed I'd have lost for sure within the next round or so. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
I still can't figure out how to beat those Sirrush. Everyone tells me, heh, Sirrush, they are easy to beat. But when they embedded in a host of undead, it's damn hard to get to them. Hat off to you on them, Psi. If I could kill off all the undead quickly, I could get to them with my Tarts.
Heh, well. Need to find a better battle plan. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Sirrush are easy to kill... But I'm not using any. I think you mean Tarrasque.
|
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Yeah, of course, meant Tarresque.
|
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
OK, not too bad. Lost a little ground, and a Heli, but nothing I cannot recover. Need a little help here though, Arco.
|
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Arco is probably saying the same thing to you.
|
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
I dont know who wished for Armageddon, but if it happens again, I'm casting Utterdark.
And considering that I have Gift of Health and it wont affect my Mage's as much as it will my cannonfodder troops that would be bad for the both of you. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Oh, it won't happen again. Just needed to try and get those numbers of undead down a bit, and maybe knock out some gem gen holders. I see that you still have maxed out troop numbers though, even after the armageddon. Amazing.
Of course, Armageddon only potentially takes out 20% of the troops. Still, I did hope for some drop on the graphs. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Actually, Come to think of it... Armageddon is lowering your Income just like Utterdark would more or less.. So go ahead cast away with all of em ya want.
I did notice that I lost one mage to the Armageddon. In the new army I was building I had 18 of one type of mage and now I have 17 so I lost about one out of 20 maybe. It looks like you took a huge income hit from it though and didnt gain much at all especially considering I dont need income for my troops. Not to mention the damper it probably would put on your blood hunting. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Yeah, took a bit of hit. About 2000 gold. But then, I don't really spend much gold anymore. Just for chaff. Still have plenty for those guys. Another one might crimp my income too much though, so probably won't be doing another, at least for the time being. It does hurt my blood hunting though.
It was kind of a surprise move that you use when you are desperate. Hopefully, it came as a surprise anyway. The turn ended up going pretty well for me, since I had armored up all my mages in anticipation of the armageddon. Not sure what it did to Arco. Hopefully it did not ream him too badly. New Demon Lord coming into the field this turn. Not sure he can stem the tide, but hopefully he can help. I did win two key castle battles, but I am losing my center... not good. |

I'm going to guess that you probably really helped soften up arco for me though so thanks for that :D I was certainly a surprise though. I actually posted here about the armageddon as soon as I saw it before I ever looked and saw the large impact that it had had on you and arco's income after I saw that I wasnt too upset anymore. You say you dont need much income, but in my opinion if it cuts down on the number of skinshifters you can field it was detrimental to you. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Well, Arco was warned that it was coming. So hopefully he armored his mages up. Probably a bonehead move against GoH though. I'm sure it hurt me more than you. I was thinking GoH would give them about 14 hp, just enough to die. I was wrong.
|
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Upon the advice of some esteemed colleagues, Vanheim concedes the game to Ermor. Good game Psi.
|
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Awww.. And my new army was on the move heading towards your fort at 186. Mind going just 2 more turns so I can see them in action once? Hell they are moving to province 199 if you want to just teleport everything you have that can teleport and cloud trapeze to that province and move all your troops from 186 there and watch the battle next turn.. I want to see how it does. If it owns like I think it will then I'm gonna try it out in Carcrash.
I'd rather seem them fight at 174 where you have a bigger force, but that would take an extra turn. Besides.. If the army does work like it should I wouldnt mind you ripping it off in a game of your own hehe. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Heh, I have new games going that need attention. If Arco wants to continue, I will keep the game going, otherwise I will end it tomorrow.
|
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Eh just the one more turn and I'd be happy if you can move your troops from that fort to 199.. All I really want now is to see that army in action once against a worthy army.
I'm pretty sure Arco would be willing to concede the game as well though. There would really be no need for you to give much attention to anything else anyways Or even just go AI and let me submit my turn on my own twice and then end the game. But... If Arco wants to continue for some reason I'd be happy to oblige him. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Sure, NP, I will keep the game open for another turn.
|
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
I don't really have a worthy army that can get to 199, but I'll send something in there to give you a bit of a fight. In fact, I'll do one more whole turn, but then that is it, and I'm out.
|
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
I figure I'll attack you with my Pretender for once as well just for the hell of it too hehe.
Kinda sucks I'll never have a chance to use the vampires or all the empowered Wraith Lords Ive been summoning though too :D |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Oh.. well that sucks My commander's in the battle in 199 should have all had Lighting and Fire immunity on top of other good Air and Fire buff's but I didnt notice that my Adept's of the Iron Order were map move 1 which meant they just sat there in the fort while the others moved off without them.
Otherwise your Firestorm would have had no effect at all on the commanders. Not that it did a whole bunch to them anyways but it did kill a few I guess. I tried to teleport my pretender on your province with the Magma king too for one last dance but the dome stopped her and I didnt cast enough spells before her teleport to take down the dome like I had tried to do. Ahh well. Good game. I guess you can close it out if Arco concedes as well. Otherwise I'll finish taking him out if he needs me to. |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
And so ends Faltering Steps. A long and convoluted game, in which none of the original players, indeed, none of the second in command players finished (except for me, Van, I think).
Thanks everyone, for giving it a go, an congrats to Psi for the win. And forgive me for a half-assed final turn. I had already conceded, and did not have much incentive. Still, some nice battles in the final turn. At the end, at least my Pretender was clasping the Chalice to his bosom. His last wish. I doubt he would have held it for long, but so be it. |

Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Yeah, I concede as well. My forces just could not get the act together.
I loved this game, as it was a cool way to look at the end game against the undead. :) |
Re: MA Newbie game - Faltering_Steps - Running
Thanks for playing Pelthin, and glad to hear you enjoyed it, and maybe learned a few things. Certainly it was a tall order to take over Arco when you did, but you hung in there.
