The only other mean I know of is lowering taxes, but that's not interesting here :) (it is when blood hunting, though).

As for taxes, I do not raise them at start with Tir na n'Og ... I do not have to pay for giants or sacred cavalry, so there's no need to kill off population early for me :angel

Can I request an extra four hours on the next turn? I've put in for turn two already, but I'm moving back home for the summer holidays tomorrow, and I'm thinking if turn two goes off slightly early (due to the auto-resolve), then I mightn't be able to play my third turn before the time limit kicks in.

And as far as first turn taxing goes - I set mine to 170, but then only managed to bring unrest down to 6 by patrolling. Not sure how much that affects subsequent earnings from tax, but it seemed to be reduced from last turn by 5-10%.

Every nation has a different starting army. I think the unit speed and if it's flying affect the amount of unrest they can reduce per turn, and knowing dominions, I'll bet that there's some random number generator also smashed in there somewhere in generating or reducing unrest.

What happens when a user hasn't provided a turn in the 24h limit Llama has defined, while all others have submitted. Will the server send a message or will it kick the player?
I have no problems raising the time limit for a few hours next turn for 1 turn only, but if the system waits anyway I dont have to change anything.

The turn proceeds without orders for those players who haven't got their turn in in time, so their armies won't move, they won't recruit units etc.

Turkey-day break? I will be unable to do turns, due to lack of computer and net access, the 24-27 of this month. Hopefully we can all just have a holiday break, but if not I can find a sub.

I guess it was a little unclear that my declaration of war was directed specifically at experienced players in order to disadvantage myself and otherwise level the playing field.

Are there other means to keep your tabs on the population early game than patrolling?

For a few nations (Hinnom and Niefelheim) you can 1st turn/blind attack with the starting army most of the time and a dozen giants aren't that great at patrolling.

I sort of thought I would find something about this subject linked from The Strategy Index. This is an awesome reference if everyone isn't already aware of it.

Ok all players, please send in a vote about what to do in the 24th-27th... Do we want Pyg to find a sub or do we put the game on ice for three days?

I have no problems with a break BUT I don't want to break this game up too often either because of the risk of people bailing out of impatience...

I will up the turn limit for the next turn to 32 hrs to accomodate pfloom. After those 32 hrs it goes back to 24hrs again.

I vote for a sub, for multiple reasons, Pyg seems to consider himself somewhat more experienced, which means this may not be the best game for him, and of course, hes declared war on me:P But mainly because a 3 day pause will not only ruin my train of thought (ill forget what i was doing) but I also fear that people will lose interest in it and quit.
