Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

Ooops, this one must have slipped past your editors, let me fix it for you.

After conspiring to open up a three front war on Atlantis, and steadily taking undefended province after undefended province while the bird men die to occupy the might of the deep, the counterattack has finally materialized. The righteous fury of the Kings of the Deep is such that karma itself rallies to their cause as Lanka is set upon from three sides.

The Lankan nation is unlikely to last through the year, any of their remaining neighbors who would like to snatch up a border province or two should act quickly if they can manage to muster enough strength to overcome Lanka's intimidating PD. It would not be a bad idea to send notice to the Throne of the Deep if you do, for the terrible might of the ocean smashes down all over the demons and we have no wish to bloody new friends.

Hmmm, now let me see, it seems there was one more cold dish of vengeance sitting around here somewhere for someone...

Vengeance is a dish best served cold. The Birdmen will rise from the ashes and smite our invaders.

Our prediction is this:Atlantis will not see the gem income from EA Caelum anytime soon. We hope your sieging army suffers from frostbite out there in the cold!

What a shortsighted outlook you have, lanka will prevail in the end. I dont know how you where able to coerce shinuyama to help you, as his actions are suicidal after he takes some losses he will fall to mictlan for free, so please mictlan could you now get him as he would be in a 2 front war.

And sauro is sitting in the corner, thinking to be in a good position due to their alliance with MA Ermor, but ma Ermor is no longer, and i can fight sauro and prevail.

And if the Atlantians commit to much of their forces to Lanka, Oceania will annhillate them.

So if you want to bet on the demise of lanka please do so, but it is not yet a clear win.

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

Heh. Sauromatia is *not* depending on my help to kill you, and doesn't need it. Watching your battles against Pangaea it is clear to me that Lanka has an infinite overestimate of his own military might.

My circumstances with Mictlan remain undesirable, but I am hardly dead yet. The issue remains: when I beat off his current invasion, he loses a few mages and a few thousand gold worth of troops. I've already lost more than that.

He's a vicious threat and getting worse as he advances through blood magic.

Let it never be said that Mictlan does not support the strong against the weak. We are officially withdrawing from our NAP with Lanka, and we will certainly not attack the honorable and well armored samurai of Shinuyama.

Ermor is trying to convince the world that he is not completely dead, which in and of itself should be sufficient evidence of how dire his situation is. The War of the Two Fountains is entering its final phase. I expect that my victorious jaguar warriors will be home in time for Mictlan-mas.

It is not that I am anti-weak, it is more that I am pro-strong. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

And really, I am not going to be launching an assault on you, I just want to be in position to take a few provinces on the edges if your empire crumbles.

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

It typically is the darkest just before the dawn.

EA Caelum needs a few constr 4 items requiring nature magic. we have gems to trade. We are not asking for aid, but
fair trade of gems for items. Contact EA Caelum if you do not want to see the proud Eagle Kings vanquished by the demonic forces of Abysia and their submariner ally.

Do you really want 8 fully equipped Kings of the Deep teleporting around your lands? Or hundreds of Abysians with blood and fire?

With aid, the Eagle Kings can keep the Atlanteans and Abysians occupied. It is much cheaper to aid the Eagle Kings then fight these races yourself.

If the noble Eagles fail to soar, who will be next to fall?

If any race is sitting atop mounds of gold, the Eagle Kings could desperately use gold. Any donation would be put to good use.

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

Free at last! Free at Last! Free at Last!

EA Caelum, while still in its death throes, has defeated the sieging army of Atlantis and ended the year long siege on its capital. Though still surrounded on all sides by Burning Ones and trolls, there are fewer Trolls and Troll Guards plaguing the world this day!

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

I recall a line from a Terry Pratchett novel - the great general, Tacticus (a joke on Tacitus, presumably), is asked what is the correct course of action if you are outnumbered 3:1 by an enemy with superior armaments and logistics.

His advice is: do not get in that situation in the first place http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

LA Mictlan is eating me alive with Imps and I'm not going to be in any position to stop him, so people should take as many of my provinces as they can. If I can win my main battles against him, maybe people can give them back, but that's unlikely http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

AdmiralZhao December 7th, 2007 12:29 AM

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

It is indeed unlikely. Really, the best course of action you can take right now is to go AI. Far better to leave your grand army while it is in its prime, before it is whittled down by the ravages of age, starvation, slingers, and Fires from Afar.

Also, my priests notify me that Ermor's western lands contain a magical site of great importance to them. The priests are not sure of the site's location, or what it looks like or what it does, but they are quite sure that the site is somewhere in Ermor's land. Unfortunately, massive jaguar armies will need to visit each of Ermor's current provinces in order to search for the site. I apologize in advance if some other nation happens to move an army into these provinces and then has that army destroyed. I also apologize if the jaguar warriors, who are always so highly strung, follow their few surviving opponents back to their homeland and then start laying waste to the place.

I hope that the eight hour timeline means something this time, but it doesn't seem likely that it will. The deadline came and then went into negative time. Now the game won't tick, despite the fact that no one is listed as "turn pending". Does "missed a turn" mean the same as "turn pending?" (serious question)

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

The update page is only "about". The exact info you can get by logging onto server via Dom (if you give a wrong password you get to see the server status without messing up with your turn). I saw that 8 hours from the server prompt. Especially the hosting schedule on the web page is famed for being wonky each time something unexpected (server crashes) happens.

And yea, if it says missed turn it means Man hasn't put in a new turn either.

archaeolept December 10th, 2007 05:15 PM

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

the server is working fine. there was a power outage on saturday, and so in restarting it the hosting period was reset. Vel posted the info in his "velusion's server" thread.

Only Man is left to go, and he will likely stale again. Its the second stale in a row; really more like the third as this turn was double-long, and so he should be set to AI.

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

Next turn EA Caelum will be going AI. EH informed me a during last turn that he was not returning. I am in my max of 2 games already, so last turn and this turn just doing some housecleaning. I never agreed to take on the Eagle Kings permanently. But it was fun while it lasted.

Hat is off to Velusion and Baalz. They are good players and countered everything I tried. If i had started this game, id play to the bitter end to inflict maximum casualties. But I do not view that as my job now that I know the owner is not returning.

Good Luck All.

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

Ouch!

And we have fallen at about the same time, as it turns out. Our once-mighty army stands dea... er... immobile at the feet of the blood-thirsty savages, who have come to drive the light of civilization out of the world.

It is only fitting that I should suffer the consequences of the shortcomings of my own start-location placement. In the future, if you have extra start locations on your map, remove start locations *from the middle* rather than at random!

But I should not overstate the significance of a good starting position - my starting position was not-at-all-bad. But AdmiralZhao exploited his excellent start with superb aplombe. Good luck to the rest of you, you're going to need it.

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

Where once a three legged alliance threatened the empire of Atlantis, now two legs lie shattered and the last begins to groan and strain. The neck of the eagle has been snapped, the back of the monkey demon broken, and the arms of the kraken wrap tightly around Oceana as retribution finally arrives in the bloody waters of the east. Meteors streak through the sky as Kings of the Deep drop deep into Oceanic territory and war lobster feast on the bloated, floating remains of the foolish knights who feebly try to hold the border.

Let all know that the empire of Atlantis claims absolute sovereignty over all lands under the waves. The Starspawn abominations have been driven from this world, the evil Mind Lords exterminated root and stem, and now the Triton Kings will learn the fate of those who would challenge the Throne of the Deep. Heed these words well, the time of Oceana is at an end and any wishing to hold outposts under the waters would do well to petition the Throne of the Deep for friendship.

In hindsight, I should not have moved my main force so far west. The plan was to plug the narrow sea egress with a fort to keep MA R'Lyeh and/or MA Atlantis out of the eastern seas. Due to the slow march back after your attack, I met you with too small a force and lacked sufficient flank protection to slow/halt your blessed knights. Even with these considerations, the main battle was worse than I would have expected and switched to AI.

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

I would have been 100% behind that kind of arrangement if I would have had some opportune place to surface. As it is, Arco's elephants were a bit too strong early on for my tastes, so aquatic expansion it was.

As to our battle, I had the impression your mages spent too much time to self-buffs. My knights killed them before they were able to launch any hurt on my troops. Dunno what you had in store, you had quite impressive research speed.

Land avenues just did not materialize for either of us, 'tis true.

I can't remember the exact scripting offhand anymore. But I agree with your assessment from my memory of watching that battle.

My Polypal Queen was awake with a fair chunk of magic (I took Sloth3/Growth3 for scales), and she was the main reason I was doing so well early in research.

Baalz December 20th, 2007 11:40 AM

Re: Placeholder for new Megagame - Evermore

Have to say, when I drew MA Atlantis as my random selection I was not too impressed, but at this point I'm pretty happy with them and retract my previous opinion that they're underpowered. I've had a lot of good luck in this game, but all said and done I'd be happy to draw Atlantis in another game.

I'll gladly play EA R'Lyeh in an MP game again as well. Even with the aquatic-only issues and magic item requirements/restrictions EA R'Lyeh suffers with, I find the nation very enjoyable to play.

I'm fighting Sauromatia, and have conquered about half their provinces. In retrospect, I probably should have researched Arrow Fend before taking them on. In futurespect, I think their remaining army is going to meet a swift and horrible demise in the next month.

Other matchups of note:
Atlantis is rampaging through Oceania.
Shinuyama was taking large chunks out of Lanka, but Lanka seems to have forged a separate peace with Atlantis, and is now taking back territory from Shinuyama.

LA Arco has jumped in to defend Oceania as hopeless as that cause seems, so I'll shortly be rampaging through them as well. I haven't quite finished digesting Caelum yet, and alas I can only focus in so many directions at once so Lanka and Shinuyama will have to occupy themselves for now. I'm thinking your attacking Sauro helped Lanka as much as me refocusing on Oceania...:)

Doh. I didn't see Sauro at the monthly "let's crush Lanka" brunch, so I assumed they were not involved.

In other news, if anyone wants to send me water gems, it would be appreciated. I can pay with Fire, Death, or Astral gems. I can also pay via forged items, in case you are looking for a ring of Wizardry/Sorcery or an Elemental Staff or the like.
