Re: New Server!!!!

I am on vacation and got a weak wireless signal and sent in a turn. It seems others have not.

Gandalf is nice to host the game, though i am not sure why we would switch at this late point, unless Velusion was closing down for good.

In any event, I would give people extra time to get their turns in on the new server. Had I not hit an area with wireless service, poor though it is, I would have staled as I decided to not get a sub for fallacy since it is late game and it would have taken a sub hours to decipher everything.

Though a stale or 2 would not hurt me significantly at this point. Well, this is a family holiday, and there are hungry people waiting to be fed.

I will only add that i was the "chef" at the family 4th July Barbecue and 5 generations of my family were present. And my trials and tribulations were the stuff of slaptick comedy.

I can't connect either, and haven't been able to for some time.

But given my current status, it would not be outrageous just to set me to AI.

Re: New Server!!!!

Yes Velusion is done hosting for good. That is why the change was made. Here is his email.

From Velusion:
> The server that it was running on has crashed... I don't have any incentive
> to invest anymore time or money into getting it fixed - however I do have
> copies of the games still running (I can access the server but it won't stay
> up longer than about 5 minutes). I've attached them here... hopefully
> someone else can host them for ya.

It tried to get the word out, posting about it here and even sending PMs to all remaining players. I would have sent a PM to your sub, Xietor, but I could not find out who that is.

Ok, the game is back up and running on Gandalf's server. The new address is:

game.dom3minions.com
port: 10375

It is set on 72 hour host, with 72 hours till the next hosting.

This game should be considered a test for the next few turns, until everyone is satisfied that it is playing correctly. Gandalf will also be setting up a status page for it in the next few days.

Just re-posting this for those that did not see it. When I logged in last night, it looked like over half the remaining players had done their turn, and logging into gandalf's server has so far not been a problem for me.

Re: New Server!!!!

I can't connect on that address either; just hangs.

dom3minions.com also doesn't answer pings or traceroutes from where I am, not sure what that means though. DNS works for it, anyway.

Lingchih July 6th, 2008 02:59 AM

Re: New Server!!!!

Hmm. I'll PM Gandalf and see if he can help you. I can still log in fine. Just did my turn, in fact.

I can ping and traceroute

game.dom3minions.com

as well. It shows up normally.

I'm trying my best to keep you in the game DrP. I sure don't want that long Caelum border with me to suddenly go AI http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: New Server!!!!

Well, it seems that Agartha has beaten back the Ermorian forces sent into her homelands. But we did gain a most precious victory. We broke a pinkie finger off of the Sacred Statue Helena. It is believed that Helena can never attain her full power without this finger. It is even now being spirited back to Ermor.

Lingchih July 9th, 2008 03:33 AM

Re: New Server!!!!

Turn is up, btw. Guess this will have to do, since we have no status page or email notification.

Agartha\'s back! World in terror

Agartha the Glorious proudly announces the annihilation of the Ermorian army that had the honor to see Helena in her full splendor. While the Ermorian troops stood flabbergasted by her glory a toe nail of the right foot's little toe (not a whole finger like Ermorian propaganda claims. Helena is now limp.) broke off. This sacrilege was brutally avenged by the Agarthian Really Invincible Army of Real Invinciblity. Ermor is beaten. Eriu and the underground resistance will be next.

OK Im dropping in here but dont come to expect it please. I dont read all the threads for all the games on my servers.
YES notifications, backups, just about anything is available. Please dont post emails here. PM them to me.

YES: Email notification when the game processes a turn

YES: email attachment of your turn file

YES: SMS (text message) to your cell phone when the turn processes

YES: Webpage updated when the turn processes.

YES: browser download of turn files

POSSIBLE: browser upload of turn files

POSSIBLE: Instant Message when the turn processes

POSSIBLE: FAX when a turn processes.

POSSIBLE: Having your computer play a wav file to literally TELL you when the turn has processed.

POSSIBLE: Having your computer receive the turn file, copy it to the dominions directory, play a wav to notify you that the turn is available, then start dominions going directly into that game.

Any other possibility I dindt think of? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Re: Agartha\'s back! World in terror

I am back from my vacation!

Lebarjack, your king of the earth is in the same province he was the turn before according to the Pythium Scouts. Not sure what you thought had happened to him?

You can always check to see if you turn has been sent in by logging into the server. The server shows who has and who has not sent in their turns.

Since Shinuyama was the one wanting 72 hours hosting, is there anyone else that wants to go back to 48 to get this game finished? I have never seen so many capable nations left at this late stage.

This game could go on for a long time.

Thanks Gandalf.

I would also like to go back to 48 hour to try and get this game finished before the New Year.

Xietor July 10th, 2008 10:38 PM

Re: Agartha\'s back! World in terror

Unless lebarjack is kidding(and he must be as there is no way we would go to a 96 hour host lol), then i do not see any objections.

Since velusion said the game would move to a 72 hour host in the endgame phase, however, I do think if there is a single objection we have to remain at 72. It is not a democracy-we have to go by the rules as set forth originally unless all the players left agree to amend them.

But I would like a clarification from lebarjack before we return to 48 to make sure he agrees.

lebarjack July 11th, 2008 01:56 AM

Re: Agartha\'s back! World in terror

I really wish we stay at least to a 72 hours schedule. I might be able to play every 48 hours, sometimes... I'm playing in 4 games which have all reached endgame and that take me a lot of time. Plus, I have regularly other things to do (work, sleep, eat http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif )

Lingchih July 11th, 2008 03:30 AM

Re: Agartha\'s back! World in terror

72 Hours it is then. Oh well. I guess we will finish it someday, or just give up.

Xietor July 11th, 2008 07:49 AM

Re: Agartha\'s back! World in terror

My advice is to limit yourself to no more than 2 mp games. 4 is way too many. You should really find a sub for at least one for your own sanity.

Four games, all in the endgame, cannot be much fun. And dominions is a game, and games should be fun. Regrettably, endgames tend to be work at times. And 4 endgames is going to sap your drive to play dominions.

At one time I had a 3 mp limit, but then i hit a point where i had 3 in the endgame phase, and swore never again to play 3 at one time.

And so ends the long and brutal war between Pythium and Shinuyama, as the last vestiges of the Great Shinuyama Empire
have finally been conquered.

I would like to publicly state that Reay was a fierce opponent, and he showed great skill and knowledge of Dom III.
He certainly could not have done more with Shinuyama then he did.

Good Game Reay! Hopefully we can be on the same side of a war in a future game.

Reay July 12th, 2008 12:42 AM

Re: Agartha\'s back! World in terror

Yeah it was a fun war I had with Pythium and Pangaea. Cheers to Hadrian and Xietor. Xietor played well and taught me a few lessons about the end game.

See you in future games http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.

Without Pythiums help, you would have got me.

It seems at the end, most parts of jotunheim belong now to pythium.

missed turns

As I understand it, two failures to do a turn mean being set AI?
Ctis and Jotunheim?

Xietor July 12th, 2008 01:19 PM

Re: missed turns

Velusion set out the rules in the 1st post: 2 stales in a row=AI.

At this point in the game, turn 87, I am ready for it to end, so the more set to ai the merrier. While I am certainly willing to fight to the bitter end, I do not want to be delayed by players staling either.

While I have found both Xox and Dryundra(jotunheim and Ctis) personable players, it is considered common courtesy to set yourself to ai when you are finished playing. Otherwise the game admin. has to do it himself.

If you do not want to be set to ai-do your turns. 72 hours is plenty long enough. especially times 2.

cupido2 July 12th, 2008 02:13 PM

Re: missed turns

C'tis AI? omg

Xietor July 12th, 2008 02:58 PM

Re: missed turns

Ctis was attacked by Man on Ai, So I think that is who they would be attack-at least at the start.

Think of it as more chaff for Helena to conquer!

Re: missed turns

Wait, what? I've been set to AI?

Okay, I'm putting this and Figment up for substitutes. If I don't get "turn due in six hours" notices, I often stale, and miss out on fun stuff, and get http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif!

*deep breath*

Don't worry, I'm not mad at any of you. Rollbacks would be nice, but I suspect that that's too much to ask.

Xietor July 12th, 2008 08:26 PM

Re: missed turns

A rollback? That should likely never happen in a mp game involving several people. Traps have been laid and sprung. And you cannot lay the same trap twice, since a card thrown on the table cannot be picked back up.

Once, in Alpaca, in a decision i strongly disagreed with, there was a very serious replay bug event involving llamabeast, the game host and another race(not me). Because Llamabeast benefited greatly from the battle replay bug, he decided to rollback the turn. He was being a nice guy-or so he thought.

Regrettably, there were several other players in the game also at war, and with the advantage of a do over, the losers of those battles were able to rework their battle plans.

In any event, that is the only rollback of which i am aware, and it was due to a major bug.

I have no objection to a sub being found for Ctis, as long as it does not delay the game. Jotunheim's position is hopeless and he should just be set to ai.

However, i do not mind dryunda playing ctis. just do your turns please.

We have never had "turn due in xx hours" notices in this game, even when Velusion was hosting. There is a status page you can check, if you don't feel like logging in to see how much time is left.

This is the games webdir
http://game.dom3minions.com/games/Fallacy
and this is the games stat file
http://game.dom3minions.com/games/Fallacy/stats.txt

Statistics for game 'Fallacy' turn -1

Ermor played this turn
Pythium played this turn
Man is computer controlled
Agartha played this turn
Caelum played this turn
C'tis didn't play this turn
Pangaea played this turn
Jotunheim didn't play this turn
Atlantis played this turn
R'lyeh played this turn
Eriu played this turn

Man is set to AI. Ctis and Jotunheim say they didnt play this turn. That means that they are still set to active players but didnt send a turn file.

Im asking SHOULD they be turned to AI?
(if they still want to play then thats fine)

Lingchih July 12th, 2008 08:35 PM

Re: missed turns

Jotunheim should be set to AI. Since C'tis is here now, I would say no, leave C'tis player controlled, as long as he will do his turns. Next time he stales two times in a row he is out.

Can't argue with that, except facetiously.

cupido2 July 12th, 2008 09:10 PM

Re: missed turns

As C'tis is Agartha the Benevolent's vassal, it is Helena's choice wether the C'tis chieftain should be beheaded or not. C'tis was loyal throughout the wars, so Helena decided to let him live, but commands him to give his orders in time.

Xietor July 12th, 2008 09:25 PM

Re: missed turns

I have no objection to Ctis being given a 2nd chance. But if Ctis stales 2 turns consecutively again, there should be no discussion about it.

Jotunheim has 2 provinces, no capitol or pretender, and it will be ridiculous to look for a sub for a race that will be dead in 2-3 turns.

Gandalf Parker July 12th, 2008 10:08 PM

Re: missed turns

Actually that can be the best time to look for a sub.
Someone who hasnt tried MP games can get a taste of it without worrying about how well they will show since they can either die off (as expected) or do something surprising.

Xietor July 12th, 2008 10:18 PM

Re: missed turns

Please set Jotunheim to ai. there is nothing left for for a sub to play. And While I will bend the rules for Ctis, who has a decent position, I will not for Jotunheim.

But if you want to do their turns for them gandalf, I have no objections. Then you can see for yourself what they have and what they are up against.
