But with patch today are you still switching people to other races? IT will be quite sad not to see new races in that game.

Xietor, when is the deadline for sending pretenders?

Xietor May 27th, 2008 06:48 PM

Re: Mega Age II -Kingmaker(full) Race selection

Here is the deal.

June 1 is the deadline for Pretenders.

Unless the Patch comes out today, we will be starting on June 1 without the new races. If the patch does come out today, dryunda will be playing EA Hinnom, otherwise she is
playing LA Mictlan. But I do not want to do a lot of race switching and lottery picks involving the other 2 new races
at this late stage.

Unless I hear from llamabeast today about the research mod, we will just go with research on the difficult level. While there have been many great ideas about a tiered research mod, with normal research at lower levels and very hard at the top, i guess it has not been that easy to implement.

Maybe with a year to ponder it, we can get one ready for next year's game.

llamabeast was going to make a Kingmaker Mod combining the mod that allows all 3 eras to be played, with the mod that nerfs gem producing items, and bans 4 globals from being cast, and fixes Mists of deception. He was also going to update the Mega Age Mod to include the 3 new races, but if the patch does not come out today, that will be one less item on his plate.

I have sent Evilhomer a PM inquiring if he is still available to replace james 243, but he has not replied yet.
No doubt he fears the wrath of those he killed in last year's Megagame!

However, Gregstrom is ready to step in as the 2nd alternate, and he may be taking Sum1lost's place in any event if he cannot find a sub and notify me soon that he has found one.

That's disappointing. The new patch will be out before the game starts. It therefore seems a waste to omit the new races, especially since we've already invested so much time waiting to this point.

Even if it doesn't come out until tomorrow, those playing the new races will still have 3 days to design before June 1st.

New-Race-Players: will you really feel at a disadvantage if you have only have 72 hours to design your pretender?

Re: SingleAge mod

Hey there,

I've been working on adding in all the descriptions, briefs, etc. into the single age mod. I should be done before the game starts. Just throwing it out there in case ya'll would like to use it. I imagine Llamabeast could just copy and paste over what he's put together?

Xietor May 27th, 2008 07:38 PM

Re: SingleAge mod

Slobby-that sounds awesome. Send it to Llamabeast and I am sure he will use it.

Pretender Selections were received on May 6, and were completed on May 7. So I think we have been very accommodating in waiting as long as we have for the patch. And while the argument that 1 more day won't hurt has appeal, it can be applied indefinitely. Which is why I set an early starting date of May 15, and a final starting date of June 1.

The game will start on June 1.

1st post should answer the independent question:middle era,
default strength(5).

Edit: I spoke with llamabeast. There have been a myriad of issues arise with the research mod. So we will just use the difficult research setting.

Re: SingleAge mod

My spell-level changing mod doesn't work? There might be technical issues or somesuch.

I ought to be able to get something working quickly, although I'm quite busy the next few days.

llamabeast May 28th, 2008 07:55 PM

Re: SingleAge mod

Ah, no, no technical problems with your mod Dr P, I just didn't know it existed! Having found it, it should now be easy to use it for KingMaker if people choose to do so.

Okay everyone, there are a few options for research in this game. They are Difficult, Very Difficult, and Dr P's mod. Dr P suggests using Very Difficult Research and moving levels 2 to 6 down by one (to 1 to 5), leaving level 6 essentially empty (see here).

Okay, so finally, to summarise, here are the research costs to reach each level for each option:

...........Normal...Diff...Very Diff....DrPMod
Level 1:.....40 .....60.......100.........100
Level 2:....100.....160.......260.........100
Level 3:....200.....320.......520.........260
Level 4:....360.....580.......940.........520
Level 5:....620....1000......1620.........940
Level 6:...1040....1680......2720........1620
Level 7:...1720....2780......4500........4500
Level 8:...2820....4560......7380........7380
Level 9:...4600....7440.....12040........12040

So the research costs under Dr. P's mod are basically similar to the Hard setting for low level spells, and the same as Very Hard for high level spells. Personally I think this is pretty clever, and recommend using it. However, the decision is ultimately down to Xietor. Since he has already said we should go with just Hard research, and the game is now close to starting, he may wish to stick to that decision, which would be a very reasonable thing to do. It is my fault this has not all been worked out before!

coobe - you should indeed have received a receipt message from the LlamaServer. If not, perhaps try sending your pretender in again. Also check www.llamaserver.net to see if your pretender is listed as being received.

Re: SingleAge mod

I think I like Dr P's mod. It seems to make mid-game power come pretty quick, but doesn't make mid-game strategies obsolete too quickly. (Says the guy who's always barely shuffling into midgame when everyone else is pooping tarts.)

Meglobob May 28th, 2008 08:44 PM

Re: SingleAge mod

I prefer DrPraetorious mod as well, I think it would make for a better game.

But, respect whatever choice Xietor makes.

Xietor May 28th, 2008 08:47 PM

Re: SingleAge mod

I like Dr. P's mod as well, as long as the 1st level spells can be set at normal. Having 1st level spells on very difficult is all well and good when you are playing the Niefel Giants, but when you are man trying to fend off said niefel Giants, you want lightning as soon as possible!

DrPraetorious May 28th, 2008 08:52 PM

Re: SingleAge mod

Unfortunately, that is not possible.

It *is* possible to set the level 1 spells to level 0 - and I think this is a good idea, myself. But there's no intermediate setting for them.

llamabeast May 28th, 2008 08:52 PM

Re: SingleAge mod

I was also thinking of setting the level 1 spells to level 0. I can't think of anything unbalancing about it. Just seems a bit strange.

DrPraetorious May 28th, 2008 08:55 PM

Re: SingleAge mod

Incidentally, it has been brought to my attention that LA Ulm is not in use.

People may not have noticed this - but LA Ulm got a *big* power boost in the latest patch. The new black priests are extremely powerful, especially in combination with the cool national spells they've been given. LA Ulm will still require finesse to play, but with a forge bonus on E(ESFA) units, you can do some real damage.

Xietor May 28th, 2008 08:57 PM

Re: SingleAge mod

As Llamabeast points out, it is the same amount of research to get to level 2. And you do not get anything at level 1 that is going to slow down a good rush nation anyway.

So after being enlightened, I am fine with Dr. P's mod unless
we get a storm of objections.

Could all the mods be zipped up into a single package for download, or even packaged together in a super mod? Either way, I'm getting a bit confused as to what mods will be in play.

Thanks

Re: SingleAge mod

There will be a Kingmaker Mod that will have everything except Worthy Heroes, which will remain separate.

And it is possible that QM may release WH 1.9 before June 1.
Otherwise we will just use WH 1.8. The Pretender Bug is annoying, but I doubt anyone selects the Hornblower to lead their race!

Could you please create a /single/ zip with everything that we need in it? All the maps, and all the mods? This would be extremely helpful to me.

Re: SingleAge mod

Do we (the players as opposed to the Llamabeasts server) actually need any of the mods as they don't affect Pretender design? Don't we just need the map file?

And Dr P's spell research looks good to me.

Re: SingleAge mod

We'll need all the mods to play the turns.

Incidentally, now that the patch is out, how are we handling this? Does the game start with 3.17, what's the situation with llamaserver? And should everyone resubmit pretenders as per KO's post couple pages ago?

I'm also in favor of allowing first level spells to be put as zero level spells. Then again, that's mostly because that was my exact suggestion a month ago.

Glad to know my conclusion was the same as those that thought of it independently.

Re: SingleAge mod

Dryaunda, if you want to play your new race, you have until June 1 to get the pretender selection in. I was not trying to be unreasonable or deprive you of your 1st selection.

That will open up la mictlan for Evilhomer, who is selecting that race if it opens up. So there were a lot of "ifs" involved with the race selection, which is why i needed to make a decision. But it turns out the patch is out, and you have time to make your pretender, so all is good.

Coobe, it was my belief you wanted Midguard because you liked Midguard. Not because the patch was delayed. I just woke up, and I have not had any coffee. We will have a very limited lottery for the 2 new races.

Anyone wanting to trade their existing race for a new race THAT DID NOT GET THEIR 1ST SELECTION, knowing the time constraints in getting in a pretender send me a pm. It is 9 am New Orleans time right now. Lottery will be closed 9pm tonight new orleans time. New Orleans is -5 GMT.

At that time the winners will be announced. But in the interest of my sanity, there will be no further switching of races. So if KO gets a new race, that frees up Yomi. but if you have say Man, you cannot switch to Yomi. Sorry.

That's plenty of time, especially since I've sent in the pretender just now. (Hopefully, Invalid nation name! won't have any problems.)

My real concern is that my early game strategy will be too good and get an alliance after me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Yea, well done on the new races, just been playing Hinnom, the unit/leader grapics are excellent.

I am a little amazed at how powerful the nation is, size 6 trampling chariots with decent morale, hornblowers to raise there morale further. Excellent bless troops/mage leaders, the E9 N8 bless works as well for these giants as any other, really powerful blood mage, magic diversity.

Got some race there Dryauda!

Do we need to resubmit our pretenders with the 3.17 version?
