Re: PBW status

It probably sent them all in a very short time and they are just working their way through the email system. This isn't the first time this has happened. It's never the same game, and it ususally only affects one particular game, and sometimes only one or two people in that game. Hopefully once it all clears out the problem won't come back for you. Let me know.

Well I for one can't get PBW at the moment. I'll try again in an hour or two before bed.

I was able to connect a couple of hours ago, but not right now (and, BTW, I am STILL getting copies of that turn every few minutes... ;-P ).

Re: PBW status

Ok, PvK. I did a cold reboot Last night on the server and we've had a couple Tomcat resets on the server in the Last couple days and neither helped your problem. Either the emails were all sent and you are just getting the email server buffer now, or the server was caught in some sort of loop that wasn't getting cleared by the reboot. If it was the first you really shouldn't still be getting emails at this point. SO on the theory that it's the second I've reuploaded the current turn to PBW as a replacement game turn. Hopefully this will kick the game and get it out of this loop if it's in one. Please let me know if the emails stop coming.

I sent out a game news to all the players as well.

Re: PBW status

Hi Geo,

thanks very much for the effort. After your efforts Last night, what is now happening is I am receiving more-or-less alternating emails - the first one is time-stamped like the previous ones, on 12/14/04, and the new ones are time-stamped 12/16/04, now perhaps two every five minutes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif So apparently PBW is continually sending the email out, _and_ there are old ones still fighting their way across the Internet to me. Unless the old ones don't ever stop at the same time the new ones do (which I assume will happen when the next turn processes).

(I also noticed that me uploading my turn also didn't help.)

Re: PBW status

Actually, I haven't received any for a while now...

(That is, I didn't receive any for about 25 minutes... and then two more from 12/16/04 arrived. I guess that's just the usual web ebb and flow.)

I got a strange message from PBW when I went to upload a turn. It was this: (It opened in a file download window if you know what I mean)

You have chosen to open

GameUpload

which is a: application/octet-stream
from: http://pbw.cc/

What should Firefox do with this file?

When I get that one it usually means I tried to upload the wrong file as my turn...

Re: PBW status

That happened to me; I think I was trying to upload the wrong file, but I don't really remember. There's a thread on it somewhere.

Renegade 13 December 18th, 2004 02:54 AM

Re: PBW status

Hmm, well I double and triple checked that it was the right turn. It was for sure. But I finally gave up on trying to upload....and the turn was uploaded!! I have been having trouble with the internet in general, and PBW in particular, so I had to try a few times to get most turns uploaded, and can't even download the larger turnfiles.

What I think might have happened is this: The turn got uploaded, but the screen didn't change because the internet crapped out on me before it could. Then, thinking that it hadn't uploaded, I tried again to upload it, and since it was already uploaded the aforementioned window popped up.

You are correct. Sometimes the backend stuff happens faster then the web pages refresh. So basically when the .jsp page you are looking at gets behind like that it can cause wierd things to happen, like what you experienced. You would expect that some kind of error code would have been coded that would say, "You've already uploaded your turn", but it wasn't because normally if you had uploaded your turn already you wouldn't even have the option to upload again.

In IE, this sort of event would nomrally cause a page to open in the browser window with information on the error. However, it uses weird code that violates the standards, so other browsers, such as Firefox, have no idea what to do with it.

Just had an interesting error.

I went to upload my file, yes it was the correct file, and it gave me an option to download????? Any ways I logged off and when I logged back on it showed that I had uploaded my turn file. Very odd.

This applies to you to Atrocities. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif PBW sent your browser a page in a weird way, and your browser had no idea what to do with it.

I'm not familier with that message. Are you paraphrasing or is that an exact quote of the error message?

If you are getting "Sorry, could not create a new game." then you are most likely using a game name or game filename that is being used by another game. Those must be unique for every game.

PBW not accepting my uploaded turns.

In every game I play, when I try to upload my turn I get a window that asks me to "Save" the turn. I double checked and and even swtiched browswers and still the same. The site will not accept uploads, well at least not from me.
