Re: (N)GC4 - Game Story Thread

The three supreme rulers Alvin, Simon and Theodore sat in their communal throne room chatting lively about recent events in their empire.
"So, when is this new ship due?" said Alvin.
"Definitely by the next almond harvesting season" replies Theodore, after looking through some of the scattered papers on his desk.
Suddenly, a servant runs in. He claims to have an urgent message from the "almighty God" and our "dear host". With him, he has a small wooden box with intricate carvings. There is a small red wax seal that bears the picture of a dragon. This seal covers the miniscule gap left in between the lid and the rest of the box.
Alvin says in his typical goofy voice "Well, read it!".
"Dear Alvin, Simon and Theodore" starts the servant. "We are sorry to inform you that some of the competing empires have failed to develop any significant traits, and are just average..."
Alvin interrupts, yelling in celebration, while Simon and Theordore both look at each other with evil grins on their faces.
The servant continues reading the message: "It is with great regret that we ask for your help to level the playing field, and give this empire some sense of uniqueness."
While the servant reads on, Alvin grabs the wodden box and opens it. Inside, there is a metal cube with a big red button on it. There is an engraving on the side which is illegible.
".. and so, because of the reasons outlined in this message ... " continues the servant.
Alvin's sense of curiosity gets the best of him, and he pushes the button.

Several Geological Eras later...
The three supreme rulers Alvin, Simon and Theodore sat in their communal throne room chatting lively about recent events in their empire...

"My Lord, one of our rural colonies has reported an alien ship has entered their sector."

This news both excites and worries the Grand Lord. In his haste to expand the empire he has turned a blind ear to his military advisor and witheld from building his military force.

"We must send an emissary to find out their intent. Perhaps they are a peaceful race and would welcome an allience. But if they are a waring race we need to know as soon as possible so that we can build up our defenses."

The Grand Lord glances over at Jacob and motions for him to approach.

"Jacob, I'm sending you to make first contact. Here is what I want you to tell our visitors,..." The Grand Lord fills Jacob in on his plans and sends him off in his fastest ship. "I trust you are ready for this challenge my dear friend, I hope you return safe."

hmmm, and to think I kept 'contact names' out of my narative to help prolong the suspense as to 'whom' I have made contact with. Oh well, I guess the cat's out of the bag now. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: (N)GC4 - Game Story Thread

The Council hall was abuzz with excitement. One of the states vessels on the border had passed through a wormhole and had been surprised to come across an inhabited world belonging to another race, indeed the first alien race ever discovered. A large map of surrounding space was up on the screen with an area newly coloured in.
“What are they like?” cried one council member
“What do they want?” cried another
“Are they dangerous?” shouted a councillor, probably Logos.
“Order!” ordered the chairman “If we settle down we can discuss the matter properly”.
Slowly the noise subsided and the council took their seats. The entire council available was in session for such a momentous occasion.
Once the throng had quietened High Councillor Dias began to speak
“What information we have is vague. We have intercepted transmissions, not much but enough to get a name and a view of what we have met”
“What are they?” someone called.
“They are called the Spelunkers, and they are lizards” Dias answered.
“Lizards!” exclaimed a councillor at the front.
“Yes, strange as it is they have the appearance of lizards. Much as one might find under a rock in ones garden”
“If I might interject?” voiced a junior councillor, Dokeo.
“Yes, Dokeo”
“We must not lose sight of what they are from their appearance. It would be obvious to assume they view us to be as strange as we view them. This is another race entirely. With, we must assume, as much capacity for violence as ourselves. It could be a fatal mistake to pass them off as a strange looking garden animal”.
murmurs of agreement echoed around the council chamber.
“Your words speak wisdom, councillor” Dias said to Dokeo.
“What else do we know?” questioned a junior councillor.
“Information is scant. Their own database, what of it we picked up, lacks any information on them”
“What of the ship that found them?”
“The Captain, for whose wisdom we chose for the position, has sent them a message asking them to refrain from intruding in our space, in return we have withdrawn our vessel before we cause any alarm to the aliens”.
“I ask again, are they dangerous?” this time it was clearly Logos posing the question.
“With the lack of data we cannot be certain, we shall have to take precautions and see what happens. The Auxiliaries have been informed and are drawing up contingencies”
What followed was an in-depth discussion of the data recovered. At the end the councillors filed off to their offices to plan actions to deal with the new crisis.

Well i wasn't sure who I just met. Even after you posted first I wasn't sure if it was me or someone else at the same time.

Edit: I did realise you weren't giving away names. Sorry, it was late at night at the time.
