All right, I admit it... you're right... Your questions work. Yes, I am an engineer. I graduated in engineering physics.

It's nice to be in this forum with many other fellow technical people - engineers, computer programmers, physicists, and other scientists. I find that a lot of people out there aren't very interested in discussing technical matters...

Here's another way to tell whether someone's an engineer: ask them what the square root of -1 is.

If they're not an engineer, they'll either give you a blank look, or tell you that the answer is i.

Engineers will tell you that it is j.
(We don't use i for square root of -1 because it could be confused with I as in electrical current.)

It's very difficult to calculate how fast the skydivers are falling, because skydivers have an irregular shape, and therefore the math for the air resistance is complex. The calculation is easier if we are considering falling spheres, but it is still not that simple. It would probably be easier to empirically determine a skydiver's speed of descent by observing many skydivers and measuring their speeds. Once you have some statistics on the speeds, you will know the ballpark figure. If you know the distance from yourself to the skydiver and you have a stopwatch, you can roughly calculate the speed by seeing how far they go down in a period of time.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">When I used to skydive we almost always fell at the same speed. AS we can adjust the speed by making ourselfs have a greater or lesser air resistance. You want to fall as fast as the other skydivers so that you can do formations.,
If I recall rightly (Haven't jumped since 1994) we calculated that the avarage speed we fell at was about 190 km/h, wich we could increase up to over 300 km/h by either going headfirst, feet first or if several people in a circle put their feet in the middle making a wedge shaped formation with the point downwards. How much we could reduce this speed I don't remember but I do remember that it hurts when someone below you reduced their speed, "flying" into you from below.

I myself have hit a formation from below, sending them hurtling all over the skye, unfortunatly there was a video phografer present outside the formation documenting it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

It looks like a locomotive hits a standing crowd!
(we all have to be newbies sometime (or as it's called in skydiving , turkeys (a bird that doesn't fly)))

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No, I don't know FORTH. I do my programming in C and C++.

In school I also learned Basic, Pascal and Modula-2 but I never use those, except the occasional Visual Basic.

FIRST IN THE NEWS!! It is SO BIG I probably don't even have to say anything!

But, for those of you that were busy with Turkey day or simple didn't try to log-on to www.shrapnel.com yesterday or Thanksgiving Day. It was down most of Thursday and Friday.

As BIG as that is, it was not what I was referring to. I was referring to RICHARD, the beloved Leader of SpOps. Is leaving shrapnel employ!! What an absolute SHOCKER!

He will sorely missed by this reporter! I wish him the best, in ALL his future endeavors. What and where ever they may be. I do hope he will stop by every now an again to say, HOWDY!

So this weeks report is going to an abridged Version of the LURK REPORT. I can hear you. Some of you are CHEERING! SHAME on you! Seems I need to deal with an INVASION. Or some such BUNK!

OK, on to the other NEWS;

MAXIUM FORCE INVAVSION SQUASHED! Several injuries did occurred during the small skirmish. Seems there were a few INDIVIDUALS that strained or sprained something from LAUGHING so hard!!

Daynarr, Ain't NOTHING that easy!! Your puny little weapons have no effect in LURKER LAND. The only person you are going to frighten will all those CUTE little smiley's, is YOURSELF. Trying to get them all to line up just RIGHT for you. Oh my that is TRULEY terrifying, isn't it! I think you have just read one to many comic books, perhaps!

The LURK REPORT will return in full force next week!!
