Why are croissants so crumbly? I can't eat one without dropping crumbs all over and it's embarrassing!

And why do they sound like the capital of the galactic empire that is one huge city covering the entire surface of the planet?

It's a feature of regular croissants; non-crumbing croissants cost extra. A clever marketing ploy that.

Consider this city is Trantor rather than Coruscant, and this problem will dissapear. How is the "ant" of Coruscant pronounced? Is it as in a ant, or as in croissant?

What's 1.5 * 0?

Jake, let's consider your problem for a while, instead of jumping to the apparently evident answer. You are speaking of an increase of 50%, ergo the number must be even: otherwise, we will end up with halves of people. Since you did not mention anything about rounding, it seems logical that only even numbers can fit in your formula.

A number is even if, when divided by 2, the result is a number like 1 or 2, without any decimal. However, 0/2 is still equal to 0, unlike all the other even numbers; ergo 0 is not even, and will not be appropriate for your formula. The lowest number that will fit is therefore 2.

Then we have 1.5 * 2 ; let's consider this new formula for a while. The 1 is obviously in strong opposition to the 5, as evidenced by the . Thus we can interpret this as 5-1=4, and we have 4 and 2. The answer is now obvious: I can pull rank on Life, the Universe and Everything. See how even maths have to abide to the Rule of the Number!

(Finding all the fallacies in the above post is left as an exercice for the reader)

"Coruscant" is pronounced somewhat like "korrussint". Or, in Dutch, "korrussent".

Ink cartridges for ink jet printers are kind of expensive. Each one is supposed to last for 400 pages, but it doesn't seem like it actually does. The printer also uses up a lot of ink in the "cleaning" process. Plus, if you don't use up the cartridge within a certain number of months, the ink expires and you have to replace it with a new one. Doesn't seem to be very cost effective...

Re: The Race to 1k Posts thread.. BYOP!

That's the whole idea. Printer manufactures discovered that they can make more money selling ink than they can selling printers. You only ever need to buy one printer (usually) but you could spend more on ink in it's lifetime than you did buying the printer.

Speaking of ink, I am out, and it cost me $50.00 to replace just the B&W cartrage. OMFG! This is such a rip off!

I don't have the funds to buy a color cartrage. The sad thing is I just bought cartrages last year around Sept and have only printed about 100 pages. WTF? (They don't last like they used to, and now they cost twice as much.)

You'd think with how much these cartrages cost now, that ink was a rare substance and controlled by OPEC.

Looks like excessively nested quotes can mess up formatting just like large pictures. The minimum width of a quote box appears to be dictated by the longest word in it, "Nodachi" in this case.

Right. However, if we were to track back into time to the beginings of the English language, the universally spoken english language as we all know, then I think we would find that our barbaric forefathers first spoken word must have been "NO." I mean it was the first word I learned.

And there is always antidisestablishmentarianism, which can actually mean something (besides making the forum suffer).

Right. However, if we were to track back into time to the beginings of the English language, the universally spoken english language as we all know, then I think we would find that our barbaric forefathers first spoken word must have been "NO." I mean it was the first word I learned.

It is extremely disconcerting to see my name getting contorted like that! So of course I'll add to it! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I believe one of the Old English words for no was "Na" (as far as I know, the vowel was not really the same as our current "a", but I am no Old English scholar), though this word did not quite have the same meaning as our no.

That was just a pretence to add to the thread though, and see what happens if we shorten Nodachi to "he"... Will the middle box be much shorter? Will it break the forum at last? Will John fall in love with Mary?

I was just wondering the same thing. Space Empires IS a turn based space strategy game for all of you who have never made the conection.

Hey Kerensky. Space Empires is most certainly NOT a turn based space strategy game. Get a clue, man. It's turn based space strategy game. Sheesh. The nerve of some people.

Hey, my head feels pretty spaced right now. Like it's spinning. Weee, lack of slepp is funn!

Now THAT is what I call a lot of quotes.

How is that a lot of quotes?

IMPRESSIVE.

How so? It isn't even giving me side-scroll bars.

How so? Most people use a needle and thread.

Funny, most people who I know sew use a sewing machine.

Hmm, how narrow can the inner quote box get?

Looks like excessively nested quotes can mess up formatting just like large pictures. The minimum width of a quote box appears to be dictated by the longest word in it, "Nodachi" in this case.

Strategy and anyone are now the limiting factor; I guess we won't be able to make you even smaller Nodachi. Actually, this isn't true: a Battlemoon fully loaded with planetoid-mounted napalm should make you much smaller.

However, the quoting madness must stop here: I am the spirit of moderation after all (stop sniggering you in the back). Must... resist... temptation of quoting.

Actually, mass quoting makes it too easy to browse the thread: reading your last post allows to read the twenty last posts or so at once. We should really edit all our posts to put the quotes in a random order, hence making it much harder to read the thread. That would be pure evil, and so fun... for us that is.

That should be my last post on this thread for a while; if you still see me posting here in three minutes, feel free to use lethal force to get me out of the thread.

Guys, what is the longest word in the english language? PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANOCO - I think it is a lung desease or something. Not really

Floccinaucinihilipilification! That's all I have to say on this matter. That word is one of the longest words not related to science, though it doesn't have much of a meaning (it basically repeats the same thing a couple of times).

Now "turn-based" is the limiting factor. And yes, John will fall in love with Mary but won't stop seeing Sue.

Pain is tempory, posts are forever.

Someone please tell me, why are we trying to break the forum?

Because we have a mile-wide mean streak? And the forum is doing just fine, though 1600X1200 is no longer enough to avoid the side-scroll bars. Anyone has a higher resolution to check it out? (Now trying with turn based instead of turn-based)

Ah, we're stress testing the forum!

Hehe, more quotes! Anyway, can any of you top this word? Yes, this is an actual word, its the name of an organic molucule.

Tell me if I mispelled that, I might have made a few mistakes.

Theres one molocule name thats 200,000 letters wrong. Didn't want to go through the trouble of pasting that monster in, however.
